This document provides guidance for a summer holiday assignment to develop concepts for three music videos. It instructs the student to consider reasons for choosing each song, the style of the video, how they would explore the style, practical details, use of conventions, genre conventions, representation, and presenting their ideas to the class for feedback. Sample feedback questions are also provided.

1. Summer Holiday Assignment - Developing Ideas
You need to come up with three songs thatyou could usefor this assignment.
Come up with a concept for what you could do for each song. You need to
consider:
 Reasons why you want to do that particular song (could be to do with the song itself,
audience, message/meaning of the song etc)
 Style of Video – Performance, Narrative, Concept or a combination of all three.
 Outline how you would explore the style (i.e. what would you do/film)
 Practical details like locations/settings/ Techniques (camera/editing/MES) Actors etc
 How you are going to use conventions (esp Goodwin) and how you might challenge
them.
 Music Genre and the possible conventions you could use
 How you will apply the concept of representation
 You will present your ideas to the class. You will start by playing each song to the
class and getting some kind of feedback and then explaining your idea
You will need to have evidence of this for your blog so you might want to use
prezi. Ppt, powtoons, infographic etc.

After they have listened to the song
 What images/ narrative/themes does this song conjure up for you
 What visual style do you think would suit this song
 Have you seen the original music video and if so what did you think of it?
After they have heard your ideas
 What was your favourite idea and why
 What was your favourite song and why
 What suggestion would you make to improve my ideas
 What other locations could I use
 What convention should I used
 What conventions should I challenge
