Production techniques research
• Research potential production techniques you might want to use or
feel would be most appropriate – these can be related to camera,
editing, story, sound, etc
• You should look at a minimum of 3 related products in your research.
• You should collect clips/still images/how to guides/etc that might help
you. When watching scenes from films, etc you could also ask potential
target audience what they think.
• You may need to add extra slides!
• With each technique you should assess whether you can use it or how
you might employ or why you may want to disregard it completely
• Always think about your investigations links to your intentionsand
production!

Genre and artist breakdown
• Think about the conventions of music video and which of these you
feel are the most appropriate for you video and why
• Think about the genre characteristics for your chosen artist – how do
you plan to employ these?
• Which techniques and styles do you think fans of your chosen genre
prefer? What should you expect to see in that type of music video?
• Use the following slides to show your ideas and explain these using
good illustrative examples – this is where your research and
explorationsshould start. Remember to consider the aspects we
looked at in class [and the academic things from Goodwin, etc].
Conventions
• The style (performance, concept, narrative)- to show the audience what the story of the
song is
• The camera-so I can record everything that I need for my music video
• The editing techniques (transitions, fast, slow)- to allow the audience to watch and
understand my music video
• The sound effects- To show the audience that my music video is more professional by
using a wide range of quality sound effects
• Representations (stereotyping)- showing the audience that I am not stereotyping
anybody
• Definition- To show the audience what the meaning of the music video and the song is
• Techniques- To make the music video look more professional as it shows the audience
that I can use different techniques
• Mise-en-scene (props, lighting, costume, hair, makeup, locations)- so the video looks
like it has a wide range of locations and settings which make the video seem more
professional
Genre Characteristics
Realistic Fiction- these are stories that take place in modern
times and the characters are involved in events that could
happen today.
Japanese-Pop often uses a mix of different genres but I will be
using realistic fiction for my music video because I believe it will
be the best to use for my music video due to it being created as
a live action video and using modern events like the Brexit.
I plan to employ these genre characteristics by recording in live
action and using Brexit and the government as the society trying
to control everyone because it's more modern and helps bring
my opinion on Brexit while making the music video fun to watch
and making the song fun to listen to.
Chosen approach/justification
I plan on making the music video fast paced and action packed to interest my
target audience and add different references to the Dragon Ball franchise because
the song I am using is the main theme song of the new Dragon Ball Super movie;
for example, I can re-create some of the iconic fight scenes from the franchise and
include some small references to some of the characters to further attract my
target audience towards my music video.
Using this approach will allow me to attract my target audience by using references
of the Dragon Ball franchise.
Camera/Editing/AudioExperiments
This is for you to evidence the filming and editing tests we did.
Be prepared to add extra slides.
You can add more experiments as you do them as the project
progresses.
Experiment 1 - Process
For my first experiment, I chose to use numb from Linkin Park
because it is most relatable to myself and my life. I used an
section from the anime Dragon Ball Z for part of the experiment
because it links well with the song and shows the audience how
the singer feels about what is going on in their life.
Reflection
•What elements of your experiment will you include in your final
product?
I will include the fade to black at the end of the video but use
it for the beginning of my main music video
Experiment 2-Process
For my second experiment, I used Bold Sans by Groundbreaking.
I used this song because the song is fast paced. I just recorded
myself trying to recreate some of the moves the character Sans
uses from the Undertale game and from the music video the
song is from.
Reflection
What elements of your experiment will you include in your final
product?
I will include the fast movement from my experiment to keep my
audience
