This document provides guidance on evaluating past student work. Students are expected to demonstrate proficiency in technical filmmaking skills like shooting appropriate footage with camera controls, effective framing and editing to convey meaning to the viewer through shot transitions and effects. They must also skillfully record and edit sound with corresponding images. Group projects will be assessed based on each student's proficient contribution to the overall construction. Examples of strong and average student work are provided, and a new assignment is given to analyze at least three music videos individually by the following Friday.

proficiency in the creative use of most of the
following technical skills
– Shooting material appropriate to the task set;
including controlled use of the camera, attention to
framing, variety of shot sizes and close attention to
mise en scene
– Editing so that meaning is apparent to the viewer and
making selective and appropriate use of shot
transitions, captions and other effects
– Recording and editing sound with images
appropriately
