India is a peninsular country three sides covered with water. It faces a heavy monsoon season that causes large scale destruction throughout the country. Perennial rivers such as Ganga, Brahmaputra, etc. always causes flooding in north India and cyclones and heavy monsoon are the reason for flood in southern parts of India. India is the one of the vulnerable country for climatic change. It should work to provide flood proof, safe and affordable structures for all citizens. For centuries, the coastline has been the focus for variety of activities including industries, agriculture, recreation and fisheries. All the major cities in India have developed along the coastline. Over the past centuries, the sea level increased nearly eight inches in the coastal area and the scientists suggest a constant increase in sea level due to climatic change. There are two major factors for sea level rise, melting of ice sheets and thermal expansion of ocean. These factors are the result of global warming which cannot be changed easily. The sea level rise will have multiple impacts like migrating from coastal areas, frequent flooding, erode beaches; the net result will be migration from this densely populated areas. This report will explore and documents the various ways of protecting and creating a sustainable living environment for seaside and riverside residents. This will document the projection sea level rise and in change in climate will increase the frequencies of flood. This dissertation will answer the questions like “How can a structure sits in ground can survive during floods?” The techniques to provide low flood residents Amphibious housing functioning both in land and water. Amphibious Architecture is cost effective and safe alternative for permanent static elevation and it is achieved by buoyant foundations.
Materials are the starting point for architectural design. An architect needs to understand the nature of materials and their possibilities and limitations before they can be used to create buildings and spaces.
It is all about sustainable buildings or green buildings and a brief study of some sustainable building materials we can use for making a building sustainable and green.

In general, Developing and maintaining world’s facilities to meet the future needs have developing to improve the total well-being. The standard and performance of concrete perform a critical role for most of the facilities including commercial, industrial, and residential and army, public works, and power plants. Concrete sets as the solid hydrates, and is an exothermic response, means it produces heat response goes quickly when the concrete is a hot condition. The primary reason for the concrete's strength and setting time is not the air temperature range but the particular heat range. Varying climate circumstances at a work site cold and hot, windy or relaxed, dry or moist may be considerably different from the best possible conditions believed at sufficient time a concrete mix is specified designed, or selected, or from lab circumstances in which concrete samples are saved and tested. This paper provides the results of a study performed to look at the condition of concrete in hot and cold weather in the construction industry under the climate of Afghanistan.
Engineered Cementitious Composites Using High Volume Fly Ash and PVA Fibers f...IJERA Editor
For each ton of Cement produced, one ton of CO2, a greenhouse gas, is released into the atmosphere. Worldwide, the Cement industry produced about 1.4 billion tons in 1995, which caused the emission of as much CO2 gas as 300 million automobiles. Our industry has a responsibility and societal duty to make a contribution towards taking the steps necessary to achieve sustainable development. A scientific approach towards conserving natural resources involves increasing durability of structures, because more durable structures need to be replaced less frequently. Such increased durability can be achieved by choosing appropriate mix designs and selecting suitable Aggregates and admixtures. Development of Engineered Cementitious Composite (ECC) materials using High volume of Fly Ash and Polyvinyl Alcohol (PVA) fibers will produce the most promising construction materials with High durability. This Paper focuses on Development and study of Engineered Cementitious Composites using High Volume Fly Ash and Polyvinyl Alcohol Fiber, the use of which will increase the durability and hence lead to the Sustainable Development in Construction Industry

CFD Simulation of By-pass Flow in a HRSG module by R&R Consult.pptxR&R Consult
CFD analysis is incredibly effective at solving mysteries and improving the performance of complex systems!
Here's a great example: At a large natural gas-fired power plant, where they use waste heat to generate steam and energy, they were puzzled that their boiler wasn't producing as much steam as expected.
R&R and Tetra Engineering Group Inc. were asked to solve the issue with reduced steam production.
An inspection had shown that a significant amount of hot flue gas was bypassing the boiler tubes, where the heat was supposed to be transferred.
R&R Consult conducted a CFD analysis, which revealed that 6.3% of the flue gas was bypassing the boiler tubes without transferring heat. The analysis also showed that the flue gas was instead being directed along the sides of the boiler and between the modules that were supposed to capture the heat. This was the cause of the reduced performance.
Based on our results, Tetra Engineering installed covering plates to reduce the bypass flow. This improved the boiler's performance and increased electricity production.
It is always satisfying when we can help solve complex challenges like this. Do your systems also need a check-up or optimization? Give us a call!

Designing for Disasters
1.
2. Engineers have to consider natural
disasters when designing projects.
Why do you think engineers have to
design for disasters?
Can you name some types of natural
disasters engineers must design for?
3. Flooding is the most common, costly and
deadly natural disaster in the United
States per year.
To help minimize the effects of flooding
civil engineers design and build levees.
What is a levee?
4. A levee is a man-made embankment built
to keep a body of water from overflowing.
They also prevent ocean waves from
washing into undesired areas.
Levees are constructed with compacted
soil, rocks and concrete or steel.
Grass is sometimes planted on top to help
minimize erosion.
5.
6. Designing for earthquakes requires
understanding the effects they have on
buildings and soil.
Earthquakes cause both tension and
compression forces.
Concrete structures are not very safe during
earthquakes because concrete is strong in
compression but weak in tension.
How do engineers solve this problem?
7. To make buildings stronger in tension,
engineers add steel. Steel is strong in
tension and also somewhat flexible.
The elasticity of steels allows the structure to
flex and return to its original state.
Engineers must also consider soil
liquefaction. This phenomenon occurs
when soil is shaken and begins behaving
like a liquid.
8. Engineers try to avoid this by
using soil compaction
techniques such as dynamic
compaction.
Dynamic compaction is used to increase
the density of the soil by dropping a
heavy weight repeated on the ground at
regular spaced intervals.
9. Tornadoes produce extremely high
pressures and loads. Constructing
tornado-resistant buildings are very
expensive.
Instead the emphasis is placed on
occupant protection and creating a
hardened portion to be used as a safe
room.
10.
11. The new Joplin Hospital is designed to
withstand a direct hit from an E5
tornado.
The Joplin Hospital design is focused on
strengthening three areas. One is the
roof.
Can you name the other two?
12. The roof will be an all-concrete structure. A concrete
slab with be glued down in which the roof system
will be built on. This way if the roof blows away, the
concrete slab will still protect the building.
The siding of the hospital will be made out of pre-
cast concrete. Pre-cast concrete is made in a
controlled facility rather than poured at site. Due to
minimum environmental impacts, pre-cast concrete
is stronger.
The windows are designed to withstand 250 mph
winds.
13. When severe weather strikes, stay
informed by listening to the radio.
Make a disaster survival kit including:
water, a tool kit, extra clothing, blankets,
a first-aid kit and nonperishable food.
Make sure your family knows where to
meet.
