The scope of environment consists of four main segments:
1. The atmosphere provides a protective blanket of gases around the Earth and sustains life by transmitting light and filtering radiation while absorbing cosmic rays.
2. The hydrosphere comprises all water resources including oceans, seas, lakes, rivers, and groundwater, with 97% located in oceans and only 1% available as fresh surface water.
3. The lithosphere is the solid outer mantle of the Earth including minerals in the crust and soil.
4. The biosphere indicates the realm of living organisms and their interactions within the atmosphere, hydrosphere, and lithosphere.
