Dependence On Computers Essay
Crafting an essay on the theme of dependence on computers can prove to be a challenging
endeavor, as it requires a delicate balance between presenting factual information, exploring
different perspectives, and expressing personal opinions. The multifaceted nature of the topic
demands a comprehensive understanding of technological advancements, societal implications,
and individual experiences.
One of the difficulties lies in navigating through the vast amount of information available on the
subject. The rapid evolution of technology means that staying current with the latest
developments is essential. Moreover, the topic requires an examination of historical contexts,
considering how reliance on computers has evolved over time.
Another challenge arises in addressing the diverse perspectives surrounding dependence on
computers. It's crucial to explore both the positive and negative aspects, acknowledging the
conveniences computers bring while also delving into potential drawbacks such as reduced
human interaction, privacy concerns, and the digital divide.
Maintaining a coherent structure poses its own set of difficulties. Ensuring a logical flow of
ideas while covering the various dimensions of the topic requires careful planning. Striking the
right balance between providing statistical evidence, expert opinions, and personal insights adds
complexity to the writing process.
Expressing one's thoughts clearly and persuasively is another hurdle. The essay should not merely
present information but also engage the reader with well-articulated arguments. Balancing
objectivity with a subjective stance on the matter can be challenging, as the writer must convey a
nuanced understanding without succumbing to bias.
In conclusion, writing an essay on the theme of dependence on computers demands a blend of
research, critical thinking, and effective communication skills. Successfully navigating these
challenges can result in an insightful and thought-provoking exploration of a topic that
significantly impacts contemporary society.

Nigeri The Country Of Nigeria Essay
Nigeria obtained their independence from Britain on 1st October 1960. Within the
country of Nigeria, they have over 371 tribes, but the main three that is well known
are, Igbo, Hausa, and Yoruba. Within those 371 tribes, they have 521 languages.
Nigeria is well known for their petroleum, and they have other natural resources
include tin, iron ore, coal, limestone, niobium, lead, zinc and arable land. The
maximum crude oil production capacity of Nigeriais 2.5 million barrels per day, and
the whole world consumes an average of about 19.4 million barrels per day. One
might ask, what is the problem with a country with the maximum capacity of oil
production at 2.5 million a day? The problem with the country of Nigeria, according
to my research, shows that its people are living in poverty. The country does have
people who are blessed with money, but it also has people who cannot afford
anything to eat for a day. According to the Food Aid International organization (FAI),
3000 adults and children die every day of hunger and poverty, (Xinhua). BBC news.
Another statistic from, UNICEF, ORG, illustrates, About 70.8 percent of the
population lives on less than $1 a day, and 92.4 percent lives on less than $2 day. My
research shows that the contributing factor of these massive poverty among citizen is
caused by, unemployment, high inflation rate, high interest rate, poor economic
planning, high taxation, policy conflict, and corruption. But my study focuses on the
leading factor
Gender Stereotypes Should Not Be Taught Essay
One of the hardest tasks required by parents is raising children. It takes a lot of
patience, attention, and precision to do so. However, there is a part where most of
the parents are not aware of, and unconsciously harm their children. That is, using
gender stereotypes whether through teaching or through playing with them. Not only
parents do so, but teachers and certain television channels as well. Based on A
Dictionary of Sociology, genderstereotypes are one sided and exaggerated images of
men and women which are deployed repeatedly in everyday life (Scott Marshall,
2009). Although educating children about gender roles and their differences is
important for them to distinguish between the two genders, and know how to treat
each; gender stereotypes should not be taught to children neither through television
nor through education and parenting. This is because, these stereotypes have the
potential to create a wrong image in the children s mind, cause gender based
violence, and develop a sense of worthlessness and lack of self confidence when not
conforming to those gender stereotypes. These stereotypes can have many negative
impacts on children, of which becoming masculinist or feminist is one. Based on the
social learning theory by Albert Bandura(1961), individuals acquire information
through observational learning where people learn by watching and imitating models.
Yet, for children to do so, there should be attention where the individual must first pay
The Wife Of Bath And The Thousand And One Nights
Literature from the medieval times, gives a stereotype that women are promiscuous,
manipulative, wicked, and unfaithful. Treatment of women as promiscuous and
untrustworthy goes against the nature of women and who God created them to be.
Women are not promiscuous and manipulative as men claim them to be; they are
good wives, strive to lead a life of holiness like the blessed mother, and are a helper
of man.
The church s interpretation of the women is that the husband is the head of her and
she should be subjected to him (The New American Bible, Ephesians 5: 22 24). In
the wife of bath, her fifth husband was questioning his wife, because of all what
was written of bad wives by men (Wife of Bath, pg 699). The Thousand and One
Nights is centered on a good king who was deceived and hurt by his wife, which
twisted his morality. He vowed to marry a woman each night and in the morning he
would kill her. The king s daughter, Shahrazad, decided to take a stand and marry
the king. With her intelligence and storytelling, she was able not only to save her
own life, but her kingdom as well (The Thousand and One Nights, pg 554).
Shahrazad was a good wife even if it meant risking her life. Men has an impact on his
wife. Yes, he is superior to her, but he needs to bring her to holiness and reciprocate
her love. Husbands love your wife as much as you love your own bodies (The New
American Bible, Ephesians 5:28). Make sure your wife lacks blemish and bring her
to holiness and without blame
Babylonian Exile Essay
Prophets of Zion and the Babylonian Exile In ancient Jewish culture, prophets were
a part of every day life. They proclaimed what they understood to be God s word,
and lived according to it. In times of crisis, prophets were even more present, to
warn and give consolation to the people. One time period in which there were
many prophets was the Babylonian Exile, where the people of Judah were taken
and deported to live in Babylon. Of the books of the prophets Isaiah and Jeremiah,
Isaiah 63:7 64:12 and Jeremiah 29:4 23 will be examined together. The book of Isaiah
can essentially be divided into three groups of authors, the first being an eight century
prophet called Isaiah of Jerusalem. The second is an anonymous prophet who shares

Also, the following chapters have a citation from Is 11:6 9 and other traditions that
supposedly do not belong to what has been gathered and suggested as the Isaiah of
the post exilic Judean society (Bergant, 1042).
As stated earlier and quoted from the passage itself, the Jeremian passage was written
during the Babylonian exile and deals with that current situation. It begins with God
directly addressing his exiled people, and goes on to tell them what he plans for them.
But seek the welfare of the city where I have sent you into exile, and pray to the Lord
on its behalf, for in its welfare you will find your welfareВ…For thus says the Lord:
Only when Babylon s seventy years are completed will I visit you, and I will fulfill to
you my promise and bring you back to this place. For surely I know the plans I have
for you, says the Lord, plans for your welfare and not for harm, to give you a future
with hope (Jer 29:8,10,11).
It is important to note the fact that after his initial acknowledgement of God s
gracious deeds and praiseworthy acts, Isaiah s confidence in God deteriorated and
not once throughout the rest of the passage did he regain any of it. The prayer is a
communal lament, but disorganized in such a way that it adds a feeling of
desperation (Mays 889). It could be said that the whole prayer
Mt. Bachelor Ski Resort
Far from the great big white world most people know as Mt. Bachelor Ski Resort
is the open rocky terrain of the Mt. Bachelor disc golf course. Many of the
elements are the same the snow covered world of the ski resort resembles an
incomplete carbon copy of the mountain in summer. In winter the overall shape of
the picture is the same, but you see the paper beneath, while in summer you see the
full picture as it was meant to be. The same is true of the journey down the
mountain. In winter you float over the surface of things, whereas in summer every
rock, nook, and flora is seen and or traversed. When you start traveling up the
mountain the world approaches complete silence. The humming of the chair lift is
the only noise, and it eventually dissolves into serene quiet as you start looking at

is the only sign of civilization, the clean brisk air hits and you are left staring at a

rocky cliff. The sign warning you about dangerous terrain still fresh in your
memory you begin to understand this may be a long round of golf (roughly a four
mile walk). You see others tromping around this rocky volcanic area, so after a
short sizing up period you go ahead and let your disc go. The wind is a definite

Sales manager will be on the move most of their day. The significant amount of
travel can take a toll on the person of this position. Many sales managers have a full
time job and are encouraged to pursue their work after office hours whether it be
on weekends or some evenings. The most common employers of sales managers
are retail trade and wholesale trade. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics the
median annual wage for sales managers is $113,860 which means half the workers
in this occupation make more than that amount and the other half make less
(Bureau of Labor). The bottom ten percent earned less than $54,490 and the top
ten percent earned more than $187,200 (Bureau of Labor). The benefits of sales
managers vary depending on the industry they are a part of. It also takes into
consideration the product they are distributing. Most sales managers work on a
salary or commission basis where the worker will get a part of the sale amount.
The geographic expectations of a sales manager can vary by site. The job itself is
internationally demanding meaning you can find a job in this career anywhere in
the nation. The job is found in either a metropolitan or non metropolitan area
depending on the company. The projected employment growth of sales managers is
five percent from 2014 to 2024 (Bureau of Labor). This rate of growth is average

Understanding Community And Social Networks
Understanding community and social networks is important in the Child and Youth
Counsellor (CYC) field in order to help create and encourage positive communities
and networks for the youth within the CYC care. Community and social networks
are important for self esteem, sense of belonging, and overall happier and healthier
individuals. Understanding the communities or social networks within an
individual s life will assist in the appropriate goal making and action planning in
order to meet the individual s needs. As described by Oxford Dictionary, a
community is a group of people living in the same place or having a particular
characteristic in common where as a social networkis a network of social interactions
and personal relationships Examples of a community include neighbourhood, church
or place of employment and examples of social network includes friends, families,
classmates and colleagues. ( Community , 2014; Social Network , 2014). Despite
this traditional definition of a social network, it is also currently described as a
dedicated website or other application which enables users to communicate with each
other by posting information, comments, messages, images, etc. Facebook, twitter
and Instagram are all examples of this. ( Social Network , 2014).
Does the change in the meaning of social networking noted above have an impact on
the traditional community and on youth? Despite the differences between community
and social networking, they are intertwined, and
The Start Of The 2003 Iraq War
The start of the 2003 Iraq War has been debated by many historians. The arguments
made by Krebs and Lobasz in their article Fixing the Meaning of 9/11 Hegemony,
Coercion, and the Road to War in Iraq are very persuasive, as are the arguments
made by David Lake in What Caused the Iraq War? . These arguments center around
the mindset of the Bush Administration, which was fearful of Weapons of Mass
Destruction (WMD) and eager to use the terrorist attacks of 9/11 as rationale for war
regardless of clear evidence. Other historians have presented considerable arguments
as well, such as Debs and Monteiro, who argue that Iraqs possibility of having
nuclear weapons posed concern to the Bush administration. However, the best
rationale for the start of the 2003 Iraq Warcombines the coercion model put forth by
Krebs and Lobasz with the Lake assertion that the post war rebuilding was not
adequately considered. Krebs and Lobasz have the most salient arguments on
manipulations of information, with insightful points regarding the motives of the
Bush administration. Their points, however, aren t complete as David Lake
contains stronger information in certain parts of the debate. Lake adds important
observations about Saddam s inability to admit to not having nuclear weapons and
the U.S. s failure to estimate the costs of the post war were key causes for the start
of the war. Krebs and Lobasz first point is that the Iraq War was made acceptable to
the American public by fixing
The Importance Of Respect In Society Today
We use it every day. Your parents tell you about it all the time. Most don t know
exactly what it means. Respect. To have respect is to hold oneself worthy of your
admiration or approval. Society cannot function without respect because it is the oil
that keeps the gears turning. Respect is actively listening, obeying orders, and being
mindful, whether it s to others, the environment, the law, or yourself.
In today s society, respect is decreasing. In schools, in the workplace, at home, and in
public with racism, sexism, religious intolerance, and more. Racism and police
brutality have increased since cases like of Trayvon Martin and Freddie Gray. People
of color have not received the respect they deserve and respect for policemen is
decreasing. Sexism has increased since third wave feminists surfaced and skewed
people s image and respect for feminists. Religious intolerance increases as terrorist
attacks continue with people s misconceptions about Islam. An example of a group
lacking respect in society today is the youth. The youth isn t anywhere near as
respectful to their parents, teachers, or elders as they were before the nineteen
hundreds. But to make the youth more respectful, one must respect the youth. Jenni

The Pros And Cons Of Power Sharing In Civil War
The end of the Cold War led to a reduction of armed conflicts between states. Yet
from the 90s, civil wars were increased in certain areas of the globe, and with them,
international efforts to reach peace agreements. In this sense, some studies point to
power sharing agreements as a core element in the design and management of civil
warsettlements. Therefore, the conception of Western democracy and specifically,
the notion of Lijphart s consociational power sharing, have been raised as a guidance
to provide countries at civil warwith mechanisms that ensure durable peace among
former adversaries.
The aim of this paper is to assess power sharing as a war termination settlement by
identifying power sharing institutions along different state dimensions after a civil
war, and then laying out its advantages and drawbacks. Do power sharing agreements

In other words, their research work proves that if a sense of security by the
combatants that both groups are going to enforce the agreement and therefore,
decrease the likelihood to recover the war is desired, it is important to consider power
sharing institutions as a multifaceted mechanism and not just to focus on the political
dimension, which is the more common. The control of the territory, the legitimate
use of violence by the state and economic resources also need to be carefully
distributed by the parties in the negotiation phase for two reasons, highlighted by

PAH. (1)
The current treatments available for PAH are prostaglandin (PG), calcium channel

How Will a Firm s Pricing Strategy Depend on the

How will a firm s pricing strategy depend on the structure of the market?
A pricing strategy is important to any firm in realising its corporate objectives,
whether that be its sales revenue, market share or indeed profit, and thus there is
much preoccupation within a business about its pricing strategy. Ultimately, this will
be guided by many factors; not least the market power it has to set the price of its
products and the nature of the demand curve it faces. This essay will attempt to
outline how a firm s pricing strategy is influenced by the characteristics of the market
in which it operates, looking at various market structures, including perfect
competition, monopoly and oligopoly.
One particular market structure worthy of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In addition to this, the markets themselves to be distinct from each other so as to
prevent consumers from the lower priced market reselling the product in the high
priced market. Typically, rail operators have charged cheaper off peak fares to the
elderly and students, who have lower disposable incomes and are more price
sensitive than other user groups, in order to stimulate demand from sectors that
would not otherwise use it.

Alternatively, maybe a firm operates in a market where it has a large share but
competes against small producers possessing a small market share. In effect, the
dominant firm has to split the market demand with these small firms, each producing
an identical product to the dominant firm and act as perfect competitors, taking the
market price as given by the dominant firm and choosing a level of output
Wd-40 Research Paper
WD 40 was invented in 1953 by the Rocket Chemical Company. It stands for, Water
Displacement on the 40th try. It was originally used to prevent rust and corrosion
on Atlas missiles, but was soon found to have other beneficial uses around the
home. Today it is used around the world to lubricate moving parts and protect
against rust. It has also been used for many, less conventional purposes, such as to
remove decals and stickers from car windows and bumpers, break in baseball
mitts, and remove coffee stains from nearly all surfaces. Today WD 40 uses the
same formula as the day it was invented, but some of the ingredients may not make
the product as inert as the company advertises. After researching the main
components, it is clear that WD 40 is not as safe as most people believe, with many
of its ingredients being flammable, combustible, and hazardous to health. One of its
main ingredients, dimethyl naphthalene, is a powerful solvent that is hazardous to
skin and causes serious health problems if inhaled. Another hazard included in WD

Other ingredients are included for increased effectiveness and stability. To increase

liquid repellency and for its solvent properties. Carbon Dioxide is used in the
aerosol cans as a propellant. The inclusion of this ingredient has positive benefits, as
the usual propellants used in aerosols, such as butane and propane, are highly toxic
and have far adverse effects than carbon dioxide. While some ingredients have

Abortion In Canada
Abortion, one of the biggest controversies of all time, has been argued more heavily
over the recent past decades. In developed nations, cajoled abortions are the safest
form of medical procedures; if it is regulated law. Although, the silence is deafening
as to when statistics are released on the rate of abortions. Annually, as the abortion
statistics are released there s been criticism in the mainstream media. More than 40
percent of women confirm they have aborted a pregnancyat least once in their life.
Although millions of abortion have been performed since January 28, 1988 in
Canada, the debate over whether it should have been legalized is argued vigorously
by many Canadians, as well as people of many other countries and cultures. The...

countries it s a burdensome issue to be talked about, whereas other countries have
come to a stand to where they are on the spectrum on this subject. Norma

abortion. The Texas law prohibited abortions except to save the pregnant mother s

since she has come forward and changed sides on the abortion debate. As she filed her
case to the U.S. Supreme Court, she received support from many women and of
course, displeasure from others. In 1973, the landmark decision had been made that
abortion would be legal in the U.S but may be restricted by the states to varying
degrees under the Fourteenth amendment to the Constitution. Pro choice defends and

would the government be to take that away from the people? We live in a developed
country based on freedoms, and women have and should continue to have the

people have to make their own decisions. If the government controls women s choices
on abortion, before you know it, the government will control other personal decisions
that people make; like getting plastic surgery, how much they weigh, ect. The
government should not dictate people s judgements and solutions to their issues. As
statistics have shown, it is estimated that there are 43 million abortions a year. It

The site area is currently vacant and is approximately 14,757 SF. The lot is bordered
to the west by the Danforth Brook, with Houghton Street to the east, South Street to
the South, and a one story commercial structure to the north. There is a footbridge
southwesterly of the site which connects to a parking lot. The site is flat with an
elevation change of 1 foot from the northern property line to south street.
The Danforth Brook is a perennial stream, with a running water depth of roughly
one foot. The bottom of the stream is covered with plants and various pieces of
rubble. It is confined by stone walls, both of which are over 100 years old. The
riverfront is degraded because, parts of the stone wall are covered by overgrowth and
a tree has grown in the riverbed in an area adjacent to the footbridge. The wall is in

Medical Advancement
Advancements of technology in the medical field is beneficial yet potentially
negative.
Technology is the fastest growing industry of our Time, and no other field has seen
the fast paced growth in Technology more than the medical field. Many beneficial

The Marxist Labor Theory Of Value
As with past articles in this series, this should not be taken as a refutation of each
argument rather it should be read as my comments on each but in this case my
thoughts are why they are wrong. Unlike with Anarcho Capitalists and Black Livers
Matters I do not think communists and socialists (for the purpose of this article I will
just use communismas a encompassing umbrella term) offer any positive to society
and because of that should be actively refuted.
1. We need communism because without it workers will be exploited I consider
the basis of this claim, the Marxist Labor Theory of Value, to be the economic
equivalent to the flat earth theory. In essence this claim asserts that because value
is objective and the worker creates X amount of value, say a five dollar widget, that
because they were only paid four dollars the capitalist exploited a dollar of surplus
value from them (this surplus value is the source of profit).
This account fails because it is premised on a lie, that value is objective. In reality
value is subjective and because of this reality surplus value is not possible. Profit
does not come from extracting surplus value but rather it comes from delaying
consumption, organizing production and taking risks. Lastly, as in any voluntary
exchange, this is not a win lose exchange but rather it is a win win exchange. Both
parties value what they give over what they get. In truth, there is exploitation but this
exploitation goes both ways.

Rosebud in Citizen Kane Essay
Rosebud in Citizen Kane
Rosebud is sled, Kane s sled when he was a boy. Rosebud is the foundation of the
film of citizen Kane. Rosebud is also Kane s last words. He was a very important
man, known globally. Rosebud is the word everyone wants to understand the
meaning of, so there is a hunt to find the meaning of the word. This sets the story
for the film. Rosebud is a symbol of Kane, in that Rosebud represents his loss of the
ability to love and how to love. The film Citizen Kane has a lot of direction meaning
that every shot means something in its own way, there is a hidden message in every
movement of the camera. There was a close up on the NO TRESPASSING sign

The camera shoots the shot through the paper weight as the nurse comes in.
These direction techniques create a lot of tension because up to the point where
the word Rosebud comes out of Kane s mouth there is a lot of tension and
suspense because we are wondering who is behind the castle, and the camera
doesn t give anything away. And to create further tension and a man says Rosebud
and we have no clues. In the second sequence we find out more about Kane himself,
exactly how important he was. In the second sequence we find out Kane is
globally well known as newspapers all over the world wrote his death as front
page news. We also find that he was in politics, the media and into forestry and
doubled ownership. Kan s image is his biggest selling point. In this sequence we
find out that Rosebud was Kane s last words, and that someone s last word could say
a lot about the person.
Rosebud sets up the narrative motivation in that the audience and Mr Thompson
want to know what the meaning behind Rosebud is, what was on Kane s mind at
his last breath. There is a brief mention of sled to give the audience another subtle
clue. Rosebud sets up the structure in that Thompson, the man in charge of Kane s
life story is now on the search of the meaning of Rosebud. I think Thompson is kept
hidden in the dark because he s not an important; he s
Small Penis Anxiety
Small penis anxiety is common to many men even those who do not have what
would technically be considered a small penis. Despite the fact that other
considerations, such as the skill with which a man handles his tool and his penis
health, are also of great importance, men continue to obsess about size.
What is small anyway?
Like so many things, small is in the eye (or mind) of the beholder. So, for that
matter, are average and large. However, a recent survey sheds some light on what the
typical penis length is for a man.

Patrice Lumumba In The Poisonwood Bible
Patrice Lumumba In Barbara Kingsolver s novel, The Poisonwood Bible, the reader
is introduced to Patrice Lumumba, the first Prime Minister of the Republic of the
Congo, through the voices of the fictional Price women. Unlike the Price family,
Patrice Lumumba was a non fictional character who was elected and served only 7
months as the Congo s Prime Minister. His reign was brought short by his execution

Socrates, Plato, And Aristotle
What is philosophy? Philosophy is formalized systematic presentations of thoughts on
the nature of being or existence. It s a profound study of beliefs and the grounds for
them. It s the study that seeks to understand the mystery of existence. Because the
subject is so controversial, the term cannot exactly be defined. There are many
philosophers that have many different views and opinions on philosophy. In this
essay, I will be talking about the three great philosophers: Socrates, Plato, and
Aristotleand how they help to define what exactly philosophy is. These three Greek
philosophers represent the birthplace of Western philosophy and help to shed some
light on the actual meaning of the term.
Socrates is from about 400 B.C. His final destination was simple. He wanted to
assist others so that they could really investigate their own thoughts and ideas. He
was a teacher who asked a lot of questions. He assisted his students in proving and
disproving theories, attaining logical ideas and really challenging his students.
Socrates thought that philosophy should achieve practical results for the greater well
being of society. He tried to create an ethical system based on human reason rather
than theological doctrine. Socrates noted the fact that human choice was motivated
by the desire for happiness and that wisdom comes from truly knowing oneself. The
greater knowledge a person knows, the greater his or her ability to reason and make
choices that will bring true happiness to

Rhetorical Devices In The Aeneid
An ancient philosophy of classical Greece, in its most basic sense, Arete means
excellence of any kind , but more specifically to the culture of the period in which it
originated meant the notion of excellence and the fulfillment of one s purpose and/or
function: in other words, the act of living up to one s full potential .
Example: Aeneas, from the Aeneid, is an example of someone who possesses the
foundational aspects of the Arete philosophy. As a Trojan leader, Aeneas respects
prophecy and attempts to incorporate the idea of his own destiny into his actions, in
spite of emotional impulses that conflict with his fated duties. His ability to accept
his destined path despite his unhappiness in doing so makes him a graceful hero and
a worthy recipient of the honor and favor the gods bestow upon him. His compassion
for the sufferings of others, even in conjunction with a single minded devotion to his
duty, is another aspect of his heroism. Sympathetic to the weariness of others on the
journey, he delivers speeches to his fleet to keep the men s spirits high.
Aristeia*
A scene in the rhetorical devices of epic poetry where a hero in battle has his most
excellent and glorified points. Aristeia can be the effect of the loss of life for the
protagonist.

Athena for revenge, and the goddess endows him with superhuman strength and the

When young children see these explicit scenes of violence on screen at that age,

II. Research Questions
What does it feel like to be a fat person in a cultural context in which fat is reviled?
(Lupton, 2013, p. 67).
How are fat bodies discriminated against, how do fat people feel about their bodies
and their weight loss efforts, what their experiences of moving around in space and
place? (Lupton, 2013, p. 67)
Should fatness be considered a disability? (Lupton, 2013, p. 67)
III. Main Argument
In this chapter, Lupton examines how overweight people experience life in society
and how negative views of being overweight affect said people. She concludes that
overweight people face a plethora of challenges in everyday life for a multitude of
reasons (Lupton, 2013, p. 67 68). Overweight people experience discrimination on
multiple levels, which can lead to negative health outcomes. This leads to the
question, are fat people sick because they are fat, or because social factors

The Changes Our Country Has Gone through After 9-11
I would say that, as far as a college student, I am in a somewhat unique position to
analyze many of the changes that our country has gone through since the terror

not even teenagers yet, in 2001 I was already a ripe old age of 25. I remember that

awful truth of what had happened. That day is one of the most defining moments in
our history. In the following years, our country has changed drastically in many ways
that many college students of today can only read about. One of the most obvious
changes since 9/11 is the change that has been made at the airports. You cannot walk
near an airport without seeing securitythat just didn t exist before 9/11. I can recall
being able to walk all the way to the gate to escort a friend or family member even
though I was not flying with them, but that ended very quickly. Of course there
were ID checks and metal detectors to go through security, but nowhere near the
hassle that it has become today. Congress and President Bush felt something had to
be done to increase security at the airports, so the TSA was created. The Aviation
and Transportation Security Act, (.pdf, 104kb) passed by the 107th Congress and
signed on November 19, 2001, established TSA and required the completion of more
than 30 mandates by the end of 2002. In the largest civilian undertaking in the history

Essay: What are the differences and similarities between Marx s and Weber s
understandings of capitalist society?
Introduction
Karl Marx (1818 1883) and Max Weber (1864 1920) are two remarkable founding

the symbolic interactionism, both paradigm are still influential nowaday. This paper

In short, the methodology of Marx and Weber adopted to analysis the development of
capitalist society is different. Both of them may share some similarity in the sense
that they included economic condition as a factor, but the differ in the sense that
Marx believe in historical materialism and argue that class relation of production is
the sole determinant of the society; Weber, on the opposite, reject Marx s idea of
economic determinism and argued that the development of capitalist society is
explain by combination of unique and contingent events, such as the religion
reformation of catholic church to protestant church, also led to the change in people s
economic orientation and thus the development of capitalist society. Such a division
in methodology is important to our understanding of their different understanding of
the theory of the stratification of class , an important concept in the understanding of
capitalist society.
Understanding of the stratification of capitalist society
Class is an analytical framework introduced by sociologists. Marx and Weber
shared a similar definition towards it. In the broadest sense, class is a category
classifying people with similar economic situations. For Marx, class is determinate
by the ownership and control of means of production and for Weber, class is

A Research Study On The Semantics Of Face And The...
This research paper demonstrates one of the most important theories in the
pragmatics field, which is the Politeness theory. This theory is proposed by
Penelope Brown and Stephen C.Levinson (1978) and it is based on the notion of
face by Goffman (1967). This paper applies this theory to two plays, which are The
Misanthrope by Moliere and The Harlequin /Al Bhlwan/ by Yusuf Idris. In both plays,
through the main characters, the authors point out the hypocrisy in the society they
each belong to. This study explains the politeness theorythrough the qualitative
method not only to understand the human behavior throughout the plays but also to
comprehend the reasons which govern such behavior. The aim of this paper is
identifying the different types of face and the politeness strategies, and being able to
perform them in real life.
1.2. Objectives of the study This paper has five objectives. Firstly, the researcher is
going to go through different definitions of politeness. Secondly, the researcher is
going to identify the concept of face and its different types. Thirdly, the researcher is
going to talk about the Face threatening Acts and how to deal with them. Fourthly, the
researcher is going to clarify the politeness strategies and how they are used
according to certain situations. Finally, the researcher is going to apply the theory to
the plays, extracting examples from them according to the theory to reflect the theme
of hypocrisy in the two plays.

Theodore (†Teddy’ or T.R.) Roosevelt was born on
October...
Theodore ( Teddy or T.R.) Roosevelt was born on October 27, 1858 in New York
City, New York. Teddy was the second born out of four children in his family. As a
child I wouldn t say he was the healthiest. He suffered from asthma and poor eye
sight, which explains his glasses, throughout his childhood. Since he was sick all
of the time he didn t attend school, he was home schooled. His mom and sometimes
aunt would be his teacher. His family traveled around Europe, while they were in
Europe, Teddy attended Harvard College in Germany. There he met, fell in love ,
and married Alice Hathaway Lee on October 22, 1880. Teddy came back to New
York where he became a Republican Representative to the New York State Assembly
for three terms... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There wasn t any wars going on through his Presidency, it was a peaceful time.
When his second term ended in 1909, Theodore took his first retirement. The
Roosevelt s, didn t go to a retirement home, they went out on adventures. He
decided to put his life long love of natural history and hunting to use in a new
place, Africa. In mid 1909, him, his son Kermit, and some scientist and
taxidermist, set off on a Safari. There he spent about two years exploring and
moving north. Until 1912, when he moved back to the United States, he returned
to politics. He wanted to run for a re election. He was aware once again that he
might have a third term in the White House. A few months later in October,
Roosevelt was preparing for a speech in Milwaukee; he was shot once in the chest.
This didn t kill teddy, just injured. The bullet was slowed down when it passed his
thick speech that he kept in his breast pocket. After this Teddy lost his motivation
and didn t win the election. Then he finally retired for a second and final time.
During his second retirement, he turned his attention to making newspapers,
magazine articles, and several books. He lived the life as a country gentlemen in
Sagamore Hill, enjoying the company of his children and wife. Later in 1913 the
Roosevelt family traveled to Brazil until they returned in 1914. Most of the
Roosevelt s retirements weren t the most settled down. They always loved to explore
and go on adventures. Later that year of august 1914, World
The Evolution Of Baseball Technology
The Evolution of Baseball Technology: 1884 Present
From the United States to Japan, every athlete who has ever played the game of
baseball has used the basic tools of the trade : a baseball, a bat, a glove, protective
equipment, and a uniform. Babe Ruth, Ty Cobb, Ted Williams, and Sammy Sosa
have made a living out of using these tools to play baseball, but there are also a great
number of people who play baseball as a source of enjoyment. The crack of the bat
connecting with a fastball, the slap of the ball on the mitt, and the roar of the crowd
after a homerun are all common sounds of a baseball game. The thing that many
people may not realize, however, is that the bat, ball, and glove that make those
sounds possible have undergone major ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The winding of this ball was an art, and whoever could excel
Last Name 2 in this art was looked upon as a superior being (Gutman 12). The Dead
Ball Era lasted until
1911 when George Reach invented the cork centered baseball, jumpstarting offensive
production in the Major Leagues (Gutman 13).
The start of the Lively Ball Era was influenced not only by the introduction of the
corkcentered baseball, but
Today, baseballs consist of many layers wrapped around a cork and rubber center
(Honig
125). Wrapped around this cork and rubber center are hundreds of yards of gray and
white woolen yarn (Buckley 12). A layer of white cotton string is wrapped around the
yarn (Honig
125). Finally, a cowhide leather cover is sewn onto the ball with 108 red cotton
stitches
(Gutman 8). Before 1974, a horsehide cover was used on baseballs instead of the
cowhide covers that appear on today s baseballs (Gutman 13). also by the fact that
baseballs were machine wound. This caused each ball to have a uniform shape,
which in turn led to balls being squarely hit every time (Gutman 8).
With the new and improved balls and great hitters such as Babe Ruth and Ted
Williams, homeruns were being hit with more power and greater consistency. During
World War II, there was a great
The War Of The Union And Confederate Side During The
Civil...
One of the few newspapers to act like Switzerland received a huge amount of
backlash for doing so. The Republican paper did not succumb to the Union or
confederate side and instead advocated for both sides, since the two editors of the
paper had different views, but the public was not pleased with this decision. The
general public deemed it weakness and a sign of duplicity to publish articles
advocating both sides of the issue and dubbed the paper the swill tub (Sachsman,
2014, p. 53). A Virginia paper tried this tactic as well, to no avail. The attempt,
however, on the part of any opposition paper to be simultaneously a Union journal
and a Southern journal was becoming illogical if not well neigh impossible
(Cappon, 1936, p.14). This explains why the majority took a side during the civil
war, as no newspaper wanted to loose the core of their audience due to not taking
sides. It is important to note that not all of the papers in this era were propagandist.
The Enquirer was able to omit their opinions and write objectively about the war.
Wise and his successors objectively reported the news rather than venting their
dissatisfaction with Confederate s conduct of the war (Davis Robertson, 2009, p.
37). This should have been how all the papers of this era reported the war yet a
backlash amongst the public contributed to a public outcry, which can be detrimental
to a newspapers survival. The U.S. government and Confederates were susceptible to
using propaganda to sway

Within the country of Nigeria, they have over 371 tribes, but the main three that is well known are, Igbo, Hausa, and Yoruba. Within those 371 tribes, they have 521 languages. Nigeria is well known for their petroleum, and they have other natural resources include tin, iron ore, coal, limestone, niobium, lead, zinc and arable land. The maximum crude oil production capacity of Nigeriais 2.5 million barrels per day, and the whole world consumes an average of about 19.4 million barrels per day. One might ask, what is the problem with a country with the maximum capacity of oil production at 2.5 million a day? The problem with the country of Nigeria, according to my research, shows that its people are living in poverty. • 3. Gender Stereotypes Should Not Be Taught Essay One of the hardest tasks required by parents is raising children. It takes a lot of patience, attention, and precision to do so. However, there is a part where most of the parents are not aware of, and unconsciously harm their children. That is, using gender stereotypes whether through teaching or through playing with them. Not only parents do so, but teachers and certain television channels as well. Based on A Dictionary of Sociology, genderstereotypes are one sided and exaggerated images of men and women which are deployed repeatedly in everyday life (Scott Marshall, 2009). Although educating children about gender roles and their differences is important for them to distinguish between the two genders, and know how to treat each; gender stereotypes should not be taught to children neither through television nor through education and parenting. This is because, these stereotypes have the potential to create a wrong image in the children s mind, cause gender based violence, and develop a sense of worthlessness and lack of self confidence when not conforming to those gender stereotypes. These stereotypes can have many negative impacts on children, of which becoming masculinist or feminist is one. Based on the social learning theory by Albert Bandura(1961), individuals acquire information through observational learning where people learn by watching and imitating models. Yet, for children to do so, there should be attention where the individual must first pay
  • 4. The Wife Of Bath And The Thousand And One Nights Literature from the medieval times, gives a stereotype that women are promiscuous, manipulative, wicked, and unfaithful. Treatment of women as promiscuous and untrustworthy goes against the nature of women and who God created them to be. Women are not promiscuous and manipulative as men claim them to be; they are good wives, strive to lead a life of holiness like the blessed mother, and are a helper of man. The church s interpretation of the women is that the husband is the head of her and she should be subjected to him (The New American Bible, Ephesians 5: 22 24). In the wife of bath, her fifth husband was questioning his wife, because of all what was written of bad wives by men (Wife of Bath, pg 699). The Thousand and One Nights is centered on a good king who was deceived and hurt by his wife, which twisted his morality. He vowed to marry a woman each night and in the morning he would kill her. The king s daughter, Shahrazad, decided to take a stand and marry the king. With her intelligence and storytelling, she was able not only to save her own life, but her kingdom as well (The Thousand and One Nights, pg 554). Shahrazad was a good wife even if it meant risking her life. Men has an impact on his wife. Yes, he is superior to her, but he needs to bring her to holiness and reciprocate her love. Husbands love your wife as much as you love your own bodies (The New American Bible, Ephesians 5:28). Make sure your wife lacks blemish and bring her to holiness and without blame
  • 5. Babylonian Exile Essay Prophets of Zion and the Babylonian Exile In ancient Jewish culture, prophets were a part of every day life. They proclaimed what they understood to be God s word, and lived according to it. In times of crisis, prophets were even more present, to warn and give consolation to the people. One time period in which there were many prophets was the Babylonian Exile, where the people of Judah were taken and deported to live in Babylon. Of the books of the prophets Isaiah and Jeremiah, Isaiah 63:7 64:12 and Jeremiah 29:4 23 will be examined together. Also, the following chapters have a citation from Is 11:6 9 and other traditions that supposedly do not belong to what has been gathered and suggested as the Isaiah of the post exilic Judean society (Bergant, 1042). As stated earlier and quoted from the passage itself, the Jeremian passage was written during the Babylonian exile and deals with that current situation. It begins with God directly addressing his exiled people, and goes on to tell them what he plans for them. But seek the welfare of the city where I have sent you into exile, and pray to the Lord on its behalf, for in its welfare you will find your welfareВ…For thus says the Lord: Only when Babylon s seventy years are completed will I visit you, and I will fulfill to you my promise and bring you back to this place. For surely I know the plans I have for you, says the Lord, plans for your welfare and not for harm, to give you a future with hope (Jer 29:8,10,11). It is important to note the fact that after his initial acknowledgement of God s gracious deeds and praiseworthy acts, Isaiah s confidence in God deteriorated and not once throughout the rest of the passage did he regain any of it. The prayer is a communal lament, but disorganized in such a way that it adds a feeling of desperation (Mays 889). It could be said that the whole prayer

  • 9. The Start Of The 2003 Iraq War The start of the 2003 Iraq War has been debated by many historians. The arguments made by Krebs and Lobasz in their article Fixing the Meaning of 9/11 Hegemony, Coercion, and the Road to War in Iraq are very persuasive, as are the arguments made by David Lake in What Caused the Iraq War? . These arguments center around the mindset of the Bush Administration, which was fearful of Weapons of Mass Destruction (WMD) and eager to use the terrorist attacks of 9/11 as rationale for war regardless of clear evidence. Other historians have presented considerable arguments as well, such as Debs and Monteiro, who argue that Iraqs possibility of having nuclear weapons posed concern to the Bush administration. However, the best rationale for the start of the 2003 Iraq Warcombines the coercion model put forth by Krebs and Lobasz with the Lake assertion that the post war rebuilding was not adequately considered. Krebs and Lobasz have the most salient arguments on manipulations of information, with insightful points regarding the motives of the Bush administration. Their points, however, aren t complete as David Lake contains stronger information in certain parts of the debate. Lake adds important observations about Saddam s inability to admit to not having nuclear weapons and the U.S. s failure to estimate the costs of the post war were key causes for the start of the war. Krebs and Lobasz first point is that the Iraq War was made acceptable to the American public by fixing
  • 10. The Importance Of Respect In Society Today We use it every day. Your parents tell you about it all the time. Most don t know exactly what it means. Respect. To have respect is to hold oneself worthy of your admiration or approval. Society cannot function without respect because it is the oil that keeps the gears turning. Respect is actively listening, obeying orders, and being mindful, whether it s to others, the environment, the law, or yourself. In today s society, respect is decreasing. In schools, in the workplace, at home, and in public with racism, sexism, religious intolerance, and more. Racism and police brutality have increased since cases like of Trayvon Martin and Freddie Gray. People of color have not received the respect they deserve and respect for policemen is decreasing. Sexism has increased since third wave feminists surfaced and skewed people s image and respect for feminists. Religious intolerance increases as terrorist attacks continue with people s misconceptions about Islam. An example of a group lacking respect in society today is the youth. The youth isn t anywhere near as respectful to their parents, teachers, or elders as they were before the nineteen hundreds. But to make the youth more respectful, one must respect the youth. The Marxist Labor Theory Of Value As with past articles in this series, this should not be taken as a refutation of each argument rather it should be read as my comments on each but in this case my thoughts are why they are wrong. Unlike with Anarcho Capitalists and Black Livers Matters I do not think communists and socialists (for the purpose of this article I will just use communismas a encompassing umbrella term) offer any positive to society and because of that should be actively refuted. 1. We need communism because without it workers will be exploited I consider the basis of this claim, the Marxist Labor Theory of Value, to be the economic equivalent to the flat earth theory. In essence this claim asserts that because value is objective and the worker creates X amount of value, say a five dollar widget, that because they were only paid four dollars the capitalist exploited a dollar of surplus value from them (this surplus value is the source of profit). This account fails because it is premised on a lie, that value is objective. In reality value is subjective and because of this reality surplus value is not possible. Profit does not come from extracting surplus value but rather it comes from delaying consumption, organizing production and taking risks. Lastly, as in any voluntary exchange, this is not a win lose exchange but rather it is a win win exchange. Both parties value what they give over what they get. In truth, there is exploitation but this exploitation goes both ways. 2. Super computers

Because the subject is so controversial, the term cannot exactly be defined. There are many philosophers that have many different views and opinions on philosophy. In this essay, I will be talking about the three great philosophers: Socrates, Plato, and Aristotleand how they help to define what exactly philosophy is. The Evolution Of Baseball Technology The Evolution of Baseball Technology: 1884 Present From the United States to Japan, every athlete who has ever played the game of baseball has used the basic tools of the trade : a baseball, a bat, a glove, protective equipment, and a uniform. Babe Ruth, Ty Cobb, Ted Williams, and Sammy Sosa have made a living out of using these tools to play baseball, but there are also a great number of people who play baseball as a source of enjoyment. The crack of the bat connecting with a fastball, the slap of the ball on the mitt, and the roar of the crowd after a homerun are all common sounds of a baseball game. The thing that many people may not realize, however, is that the bat, ball, and glove that make those sounds possible have undergone major ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The winding of this ball was an art, and whoever could excel Last Name 2 in this art was looked upon as a superior being (Gutman 12). The Dead Ball Era lasted until 1911 when George Reach invented the cork centered baseball, jumpstarting offensive production in the Major Leagues (Gutman 13). The start of the Lively Ball Era was influenced not only by the introduction of the corkcentered baseball, but Today, baseballs consist of many layers wrapped around a cork and rubber center (Honig 125). Wrapped around this cork and rubber center are hundreds of yards of gray and white woolen yarn (Buckley 12). A layer of white cotton string is wrapped around the yarn (Honig 125). Finally, a cowhide leather cover is sewn onto the ball with 108 red cotton stitches (Gutman 8). Before 1974, a horsehide cover was used on baseballs instead of the cowhide covers that appear on today s baseballs (Gutman 13). also by the fact that baseballs were machine wound. This caused each ball to have a uniform shape, which in turn led to balls being squarely hit every time (Gutman 8). With the new and improved balls and great hitters such as Babe Ruth and Ted Williams, homeruns were being hit with more power and greater consistency. During World War II, there was a great
  • 45. The War Of The Union And Confederate Side During The Civil... One of the few newspapers to act like Switzerland received a huge amount of backlash for doing so. The Republican paper did not succumb to the Union or confederate side and instead advocated for both sides, since the two editors of the paper had different views, but the public was not pleased with this decision. The general public deemed it weakness and a sign of duplicity to publish articles advocating both sides of the issue and dubbed the paper the swill tub (Sachsman, 2014, p. 53). A Virginia paper tried this tactic as well, to no avail. The attempt, however, on the part of any opposition paper to be simultaneously a Union journal and a Southern journal was becoming illogical if not well neigh impossible (Cappon, 1936, p.14). This explains why the majority took a side during the civil war, as no newspaper wanted to loose the core of their audience due to not taking sides. It is important to note that not all of the papers in this era were propagandist. The Enquirer was able to omit their opinions and write objectively about the war. Wise and his successors objectively reported the news rather than venting their dissatisfaction with Confederate s conduct of the war (Davis Robertson, 2009, p. 37). This should have been how all the papers of this era reported the war yet a backlash amongst the public contributed to a public outcry, which can be detrimental to a newspapers survival. The U.S. government and Confederates were susceptible to using propaganda to sway
