Essay on Postmodern condition
1. What is meant by the postmodern condition ? Postmodernism can be called a
condition of contemporary culture , it is a modern movement which is strong,
ambiguous, very popular and controversial. However, it is very difficult to explain
the term because there is no full clarity what the term really means. As one can read
in The Condition of Postmodernityit is a mine field of conflicting notions and a
battleground of conflicting opinions and political forces . There are so many
interpretations, definitions and evaluations of the term that it is hardly possible to
build a coherent definition, or to be brave enough to attempt to describe it. Almost
everyone has a different opinion about it, advocate for or against or are... Show more

One of the hyperreality images and the world of imagination (Baudrillard writes)
is Disneyland, which is the perfect model of all those confusing orders of
simulation. It is primarily a game of illusions and phantasms. Imaginary world of
Disneyland is neither true nor false. It is a space of regeneration of the world of
imagination, reminiscent of a recycling factory. Thus, the world of the imagination
of children and adults is a rubbish, the first great civilization hyper real pollution.
Disneyland is a prototype of this new feature on the mental area. As one can read in
Simulacra and Simulation It is no longer a question of a false representation of
reality (ideology) but of concealing the fact that the real is no longer real, and thus of
saving the reality principle .
Another example of flipping a deeper reality by its overriding, and then hiding its
deficiencies, through breaking any relations with it and finally achieving the status of
its simulacrum, completely emancipated from the power of what is real is the Sokal
hoax. Sokal saw a marked reduction in the standards of intellectual reliability in some
American humanistic academic circles. That is why he decided to do the experiment
, which consisted in checking whether the leading American journal dedicated to
cultural research will publish a text full of nonsense, if it only sound good. It turned

Even in a globalized world of countries that are interdependent on one another, there
still is progress to be made. I could not help but smile.
Continuing my run, I reached the Ganges River, and surprisingly found my cousin,
Archit, there. He is studying to become a CA for Price Waterhouse Coopers India

of people want progress. Progress for small businesses and more support for the ideas
that they create from both the government and businesses.
I felt obligated to represent my country as best I could, remarking on how Canadian
businesses like Selinger, a construction development company, and Blackberry have
successfully entered the market, created jobs for many unemployed people, and

conversations like these that brought a new sense of urgency and opportunity to my

The wind energy has been expanded in the previous couple of decades particularly
with huge associations and governments. The clean impact and dependability of the
energy source have been a noteworthy boost. Most nations among them the United
States of America are empowering the utilization of wind energy to supplement
existing sources and in an arrangement to take out or annihilate utilization of non
sustainable power sources particularly coal. Wind turbines require to be set a
separation from each other to lessen the shadow impact on wind wave. This has

Safety Gmo Foods
Title: Safety of Genetically Modified Foods and its Impact on Global Public Health
Introduction: Genetically modified foods are made from genetically changed plants
or animals. Genetic change is done through transfer of specific genes from one
organism to another or between two different species. Genetically modified crops are
more productive, resistant to herbicide, tolerant to drought and flood, less expensive
than naturally produced food and have more nutrition value. Objectives: 1. to identify
cost effectiveness of genetically modified foods 2. to discuss the possible adverse
effects of genetically modified foods to human health and environment and 3. global
public health impact of genetically modified foods.

It will continue in the coming days. Despite this, general public is more or less
unaware of the genetic modification, its advantages and disadvantages. Some people
oppose genetic modification without knowing the information about genetic
modification. They have emerging concerns for Genetic modifications associated
with environmental hazard and human health. The genetically modified food like the
insect resistant maize and herbicide tolerant soybean is in the US food market for
almost 20 years with noteworthy advantages including reduced use of insecticides
and herbicides, lessened labor costs and enhancement in food quality (Brookes
Barfoot, 2012). Day by day the number and amount of genetically modified food is
increasing. The seeds and food plans are genetically modified for better production
and tolerate adverse climate conditions. Sociocultural idiosyncrasies are different in
different communities. Many countries within the European Union are reluctant
invest time and effort to uplift genetic modification of food production. In the United
States, most of the people accept genetically modified food without major concerns
and a few other groups of people opposes genetically modified food (Zilberman,
Kaplan, Kim, Hochman, Graff, 2013). The global population is increasing and the
crop fields are shrinking to accommodate the space for housing and industries. It is
essential to increase food production by 70% by the year 2050 to feed increased
number of population (Food and Agricultural Organization of the United Nations
(FAO, 2009)). In many countries of Sub Saharan Africa and Asia, lack of food causes
increased malnutrition and mortality of infants. About 54% child mortality is linked
with malnutrition in developing countries in 2001(World Health Organization, 2013).
Shortage of food causes overall undernutrition and disease burden on the entire
population. Feminine, poverty
Art Museum Vs. Private Museum

compared, are private art museums in the United States, compared to a private art
museum in another country. Secondly, a university natural history museum is
compared to another university natural history museum in a foreign country. The
comparisons involve taking a closer look at the history, function, staffing, and
programs at museums. Many reasons can lead collectors to starting a private museum.
Whether collectors feel that a collection can serve an educational function, or perhaps
to keep control over the collection, a private museum is an option that provides the
public access to their work (Traditional Fine Arts Organization). One notable example

main mission and function is to share their vast collection of contemporary art and
support emerging artists. They have an active internship program, lecture series, and
a partnership with Miami Dade county schools to support education (The Rubell

volumes and a bookstore (The Rubell Collection). In order to share their expansive
collections, the Rubells also lend their exhibits to other museums all over the world

20 percent of children under 12 years of age are taking oral medication at any given
time in the United States, it is imperative that parents are sure and precise in
measuring dosages for their children (Vernacchio et. al). By transferring medication
instructions from tablespoons and teaspoons to milliliters, the safety of children
within the United States will increase drastically. When the impacts within science,
international affairs, and child safety are considered, it is clear that the United States
must make the crucial decision of adopting the Metric System. While the transition to
metric will need hard work and patience from within the United States, the overall
benefits will outweigh the temporary costs, giving the country the boost it needs to
interact more freely with other countries with a universally agreed system. It is time
for the United States to recognize the Metric System s worth, as it will change the

The Tragic Cliff
Everyone needs a place to escape the everyday complications of life. Life has its ups
and downs and we all learn to deal with them in different ways. Some people use
exercise to release stress while others find places to hide from the stress for short
periods of time.
I found a place of relaxation hundreds of feet above everyone looking down. Right
outside of town there is a cliff that overlooks the downtown area. There I feel as
though I am above everyone and nothing could touch me. I feel comfort just
knowing I can observe thousands of people below me, like looking at little ants

I believe we both developed a better understanding not only of each other, but of
others as well. We could have spent hours just talking, laughing, and really feeling
alive. What we really found hilarious and surprising was that Dubuque actually
looked absolutely immaculate from such a height. We would never have guessed the
difference in appearance just by looking downward on the city.
One of the first times my friend and I explored the cliff she found a ragged looking
envelope with a dated letter of desperation in it. It was addressed to Whom it May
Concern, and its contents were packed with problems, dreams, answers, and lies in
a sing song pattern. We had to read it a couple of times to fully consume the poetry
and figure out the words that were erased from the still damp paper. About three
pages the poet went on about life in general. It really touched the both of us and
after that, we began to bring our poetry to the cliff and read aloud some of our
thoughts. We never did find out who the author of the poetic letter was, however, it
gave us both the feeling of new hope. I found it very refreshing to know that some
people face life s obstacles in such a creative way. The way I see it and I think the
way the author of the poem sees it, is that when in nature, and especially looking
down upon the world, there is a distance you begin to take on from that world, the
world of the not so beautiful reality. I believe people
The Little Black Boy By William Blake And Racism Is
Around...
Every human has the same red blood. Though he or she is black, white, Hispanic or
Asian it does not matter; everyone supposed to have equal rights. But, racism still
exists. Why do different races of people have different heights? Was the person born
that way? The Little Black Boy by William Blake and RacismIs around Me
Everywhere by Francis Duggan are the two poems about how racism causes
inequality. Realization of differences, fear of loss and displacement, condition of
being uneducated, lack of awareness, lack of self love, unworthy feelings, desire to
feel superior all lead to result inequality among the people.
Superiority of white to other races creates inequality in the society. Imitation of the
oldest cultures and feelings of separation in the society makes people mentally
different from others. Likewise, people s minds are effected more when they see how
the society has dominant races and differentiate people from their races.
Racism causes inequality because of the feeling of separation, fear of racism, and
the existence of the racism everywhere. One reason is feeling of separation. Society
is formed with different religions, cultures, races. As biologically every individual
seems to be different, always exist because of the skin color, hair, and physical
appearance. According to Blake,
My mother bore me in the southern wild;
And I am black, but O! my soul is white;
White as an angel is the English child;
But I am black as if bereav d of the light.
The Seventh Man Mularakami
The Seventh Man by Haruki Murakami is a story about a boy (the seventh man)
whose best friend (K.) was caught in a typhoon. The seventh man moved away
from town because he couldn t deal with the guilt he felt for K since he thought he
could have saved him, but chose to run away and save himself. He couldn t find
happiness for at least 40 years. He always had constant nightmares, hallucinations,
and bad thoughts. After he found out his parents died, he moved back to his
hometown (where K. had been swept away by the typhoon). The seventh man was
scared to go back to the beach where the typhoon had occurred. Though, once he went
back to that same beach, he felt a whole lot better. He stopped having bad thought and

So in that case performance measures should be selected to end goals of a particular
institute. Solution Proposing a balanced scorecard Balanced scorecard is a set of
measures, which give the complete view of any business performance. Kaplan and
Norton (1995) explained balanced scorecard in following words: The balanced
scorecard should translate a business unit s mission and strategy into tangible
objectives and measures. The measures represent a balance between external
measures for shareholders and customers and internal measures of critical business
processes, innovation and learning and growth. The measures are balance between
outcome measures, the results of past efforts, and the measures that drive future
performance. And the scorecard is balanced between objective, easily quantified
outcome measures and subjective, somewhat judgmental, performance... Following
are the strategic performance measures of any balanced scorecard: Financial
performance: it deals with how the current and potential stakeholders see a particular
business. Customer performance: This measure tells the company about the view of
customers regarding the company/institute Business and production process

Antagonism Between Ja And Cytokinin
Antagonism between JA and cytokinin is of common occurrence in various plant
growth and developmental processes. Cytokinin, benzyladenine (BA) has been
reported to antagonize the effect of JA on root growth promotion in Solanum
tuberosum (Sarkar et al., 2006). In cotyledons of sunflower (Helianthus annuus),
MeJA promoted senescence, whereas pretreatment with cytokinin partially blocked
MeJA induced senescence (Mukherjee et al., 2002). Liu et al. (2015) concluded
that exogenous applications of JA and cytokinin antagonistically regulated leaf
senescence in O. sativa senescence associated genes expression. They also
proposed that leaf senescence not only depends on the level of JA or cytokinin but
also on the balance between JA and cytokinin (Liu et al., 2015). Earlier, Ananieva
and Ananiev (2003) argued that MeJA promoted some aspects of senescence in
intact Cucurbita pepo cotyledons partially due to down regulation of endogenous
levels of cytokinine levels and interconversion between active and inactive forms of
cytokines (Ananieva and Ananiev, 2003). Apart from the above reports, antagonistic
effect of cytokinins on the stimulatory effect of JAs has also been observed in potato
tuber formation under in vitro conditions (Sarkar et al., 2006). A synergistic effect of
JA and cytokinin has also been reported in T. aestivum to alleviate effects of salinity
stress.

Disobedience Wrong
Disobedience is a valuable human trait, it promotes progress in society, and social
correctness. It is one of the most basic and powerful tools for adaption and
evolution mankind has ever possessed. Wrong does not cease to be wrong because
the majority share in it. (Leo Tolstoy, A Confession). If those that believe they are
right do not put their opinions out there, or fight for what they believe in, the wrong
majority shall never change. If no one questions what they are taught, nothing
changes, and if they are wrong they shall never know. Change for better or worse is
not for the weak it is for the brave, and those who disobey the natural order are the
ones who make change and bring the normalcy of any situation into question. Right is

Although life threatening cases are dealt with immediately, some services needed are

1.4.2 Restrictions on privately funded health care
The Canada Health Act, which sets the conditions with which provincial/territorial
health insurance plans must comply if they wish to receive their full transfer
payments from the federal government, does not allow charges to insured persons for
insured services (defined as medically necessary care provided in hospitals or by
physicians). Most provinces have responded through various prohibitions on such
payments. This does not constitute a ban on privately funded care; indeed, about
30% of Canadian health expenditures come from private sources, both insurance and
out of pocket payments. The Canada Health Act does not address delivery. Private
clinics are therefore permitted, albeit subject to provincial/territorial regulations, but
they cannot charge above the agreed upon fee schedule unless they are treating non
insured persons (which may include those eligible under automobile insurance or

Everyone is affected by overpopulation, even those who do not own pets. Human
health is at risk from all the stray animals having transmittable diseases such as rabies
and the animal waste.
There are several different procedures on spaying and neutering pets. Each and
every procedure would be performed by a veterinarian who has studied medicine.
Discuss all of these procedures with a veterinarian for the best option for each
specific pet. Of course, there is the usual spay procedure is a ovariohysterectomy,
which is when the ovaries, fallopian tubes, and uterus are removed from a female
pet. As a result this makes the female pet unable to reproduce and eliminates the
breeding instinct related behavior and the heat cycle. Also there is the hysterectomy,
which is when the uterus and part of the fallopian tubes are removed from a female
pet. This makes the female pet unable to reproduce, but the female will still produce
hormones because of the ovaries. This may not eliminate the female behaviors related
to the breeding instinct. Lastlty, for the female pet there is the ovariectomy, which is
when the ovaries are removed from a female pet but the uterus remains. Similarly to
the effects of ovariohysterectomy such as making the female unable to reproduce and
eliminates the breeding instinct related behavior and the heat cycle. The usual neuter
procedure is a orchiectomy, which is when the testes are removed from a

MK 84 bomb, possibly with a BLU 109 penetrator on the nose cone with an
embedded global positioning system guidance kit provides obvious visible
damage somebody, or something, just fractured into smaller pieces. The same is
not necessarily the case with bellicose actions in the cyber dimension at least not at
first look. Senior leaders as a whole have largely ignored cyber warfare s
catastrophic potential due to the initial invisible physical effects and huge costs
associated with protecting our systems and information. As our reliance on
technology grows as exponentially as the technology improves, more people are
finally showing an awareness of the silent boom s threat and its actual fracturing
potential, in part due to protagonists like Richard A. Clarke and Robert K. Knake and
their continued warn of cyber wars devastating potential for first, second, and tertiary
effects.
Clarke and Knake use a mixed method research approach in Cyber War to support
their hypothesis that offensive prowess is meaningless without solid defense in
cyberspace, and that the United States need immediately fix our defensive cyber
shortfalls, or face apocalyptic doom. Specifically, the authors define cyber war as
actions by a nation state to penetrate another nation s computers or networks for the
purposes of causing damage or disruption. This infers that they are really talking
about warfare and

Triumph Of The City
In Chapter 4 How Were the Tenements Tamed? of Triumph of the City, Edward
Glaeser analyses issues arising from urban concentration in New York and greater
America from the late 1700s to the present. As an economist, the author s interest in
cities and urban planning lie in the part they play in facilitating social and commercial
networks that are key to the economic and cultural success of metropolitan areas. One
of Glaeser s major concerns relates to the cost of urban concentration, i.e. problems
that arise in high density populations due to poor or incomplete urban planning,
ultimately impacting the ability of citizens to make valuable interactions. Examples
include poor sanitation facilities that permit the spread of disease and hinder
productivity;... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Richardson, Glaeser places certain focus on the importance of sanitation and the
provision of clean water as fundamental components in reducing disease in cities.
While this issue is highly relevant to the wellbeing of citizens in urban
concentrations, Glaeser seems less concerned with it as most present day cities have
overcome these issues through provision of sufficient infrastructure. Of greater
interest to the economically fixated Glaeser is the proposal and implementation of
urban planning reforms aiming to reduce traffic congestion in metropolitan areas.
He points out that congestion encumbers productivity in cities, and is adamant in
his view that every driver should be charged for the external cost that their use of
the road deposits on other drivers. From an economic perspective, it makes great
sense to charge people for their bearing on congested roads to make up for lost time
and productivity. Though the author fails to consider other solutions to the
congestion problem, such as increasing public transport opportunities and investing
in pedestrian and bicycle facilities, his favoured solution would still work well as part
of a larger scheme to reduce traffic
The Book Of Job By Katharine Dell
There are some who say we are not truly human until we have suffered 1 as said by
Katharine Dell. There is also a though throughout the bible that God makes us suffer
for our wrongdoings and past offenses. If this is so, then the protagonist of the Book
of Job put both of these thoughts to the test while remaining faithful to God.
Similarly to Job in John chapter nine, Jesus disciples questionhim in regards to human
sufferingand punishment from God. The idea of punishing a child for their parents
sins is an over arching idea in the bible that acts as an explanation to why human
suffer. Throughout the Biblical book of Job, despite Job s friends belief of his
wrongdoing, Job remains faithful while searching for a reason for his... Show more

Zaphar tells Job that he must put away his sins and then God will restore him to
former form.3 By saying this, Zaphar claims that once Job repents for the sins he
has committed, God will heal Job and he will be well once again. Similar to
Zaphar s speech, Bildad asks Job if he should be blameless and that surely God will
awaken in him and restore him to his former domain.4 After these speeches
Eliphaz tells Job Call now! Will anyone respond to you? To which of the holy ones
will you appeal? 5 By saying this, he is telling Job to call for help and pity from
God and religious officials. He is also claiming that Job does not appeal to anyone
in his current state because of his leprosy and distorted state. After all of these
accusations and claims against Job, the thought that he may truly be innocent
never crosses any of the friends minds.7 And after his friend s speeches, Job s other
friend Elihu cannot hold his thoughts in any more and begins a tirade against Job.
Now after Elihu s elders have spoken and have nothing left to say Elihu cannot hold
his thoughts any more. He begins to go on a tirade against Job because he believes
that Job is wrong to question God at all. He believes, as well as Job s other friends,
that Job must have done something wrong because God does not just punish good
people. But the main part of Elihu s argument is the fact that Job is questioning
The Story Of The Brothers
The Brothers When I first got my license to drive I thought I was on top of the
world. I soon realized that I was stuck on the ground. Later on I got the chance to
go flying at the Ogden Hinckley airport. Instantly I was addicted to the feeling of
flying. I wanted to know everything about it. I wanted to know how the Wright
brothers had had this passion for something that was thought to be impossible. The
purpose of this essay is to find out who the Wright brothers were, and how they
became famous. Lets start with who they were. The older brother was Wilbur. He
was born in Milville, Indiana on April 16 1867. The younger brother was Orville.
He was born in Dayton, Ohio on August 19, 1871. Neither of them graduated from
high school. They enjoyed working as bicycle retailers and manufacturers. This
played a large role in paving their road to inventing the first successful airplane.
They owned their own bike shop in Dayton, Ohio. Thanks to the bicycle business
booming at the time they were able to have funds for learning about and building
planes. They had great mechanical skills they learned from working on bikes. (The
road to the first flight). Their work influenced their belief that an unstable vehicle
like a flying machine could be controlled and balanced with practice. They often used
the shop to build and experiment on planes. These two brothers shared a passion for
learning about planes. The Wright Brothers read everything they could on the subject.

The Body And Identity Of Afro Descendant Women
Body identities and transformation: the struggles to belong
Stereotypes and negative prejudice related to the body and identity of afro descendant
women have generated over dimensionality of their sexuality, affecting their relation
with the rest of the population and with afro descendant men.
To explain the process of construction of beauty standards, Markowtksy talks about
how the hierarchy system can establish different dominance relations. Thus, there has
been established relations between sex/gender, between different races, and between
women and men from different races. Since these relations have been created and
modified by the western/European world, they have also been influenced by the
theories of race and mestizaje that also affected the portrayals of colonized women,
defining beauty as a standard that expressed both desirability and racial superiority.
This establishment of beauty standards, however, adapted to be able to consider
colonized women as desirable in a sexual way, but at the same time, they were not
related to the ideals of a good woman , a capable woman with an intellectual value
that can be adequate to domestic environments, reinforcing social differences.
Beauty standards, then, determine what is adequate and what is not, which facial
features are perfect and which will never meet the requirements. They decide what is
sexy, which body woman should seek to have, and supported by the media, they are
installed as a mechanism of social control that

Pressure Ulcer Snapshot Study
Decision: to increase the frequency of pressure ulcer assessment. Definition of
complex care in relation to case The expression complex care denotes the impact
multifarious diagnoses and their subsequent implications have on an individual, and
therefore the varying facets of care management required. This may be due to
physical, developmental, behavioural or emotional conditions requiring various long
term interventions to ensure survival and positive quality of life (McPherson et al.
1998). A more recent paediatric specific definition, taking into consideration the
advances in healthcare leading to both increased survival rates and progress in

To justify this option the nurse needed to be certain that this would be concluded
prior to the potential development of a pressure ulcer, requiring knowledge of how
quickly pressure ulcers can develop. National guidance regarding the necessity of
repositioning children at risk of pressure ulcers four hourly (NICE 2013) suggests
that immobility exceeding four hours influences pressure ulcer development,
however research into how quickly pressure ulcers can develop, particularly in the
paediatric population, is scarce. A frequently cited study into pressure duration
influence found external pressures exceeding a patient s diastolic blood pressure can
bring about a pressure ulcer within 6 hours, and pressure four times the systolic
pressure can bring about a pressure ulcer in under 1 hour (Reswick and Rogers 1976,

considered difficult to implement practically, given the complexity and feasibility of
measuring such pressures regularly in
Code Of Professional Conduct For Nurses In Australia
Nurses practice in a safe and competent manner.
Nurses are personally accountable for the provision of safe and competent nursing
care. (Code of Professional Conduct for Nurses in Australia). This means that it is the
responsibility of a nurse to maintain the competence which is required for the current
practice. In the practitioner s case, her performance was unsatisfactory especially in
the use of medication, medication safety, and intravenous medication administration.
She had committed a lot of medication errors during her employment with the
hospital and the facility recorded near miss medication error as well. She was poor in
calculating the infusion rates and the amount to be diluted in the medicine.
Furthermore, she showed incapability in one of the emergency situations that took

Causes Of Nursing Shortage
There are angels in the health care field that are starting to face an absence of others
to continue their work. Who are these angels and why is there a deficiency? Nurses
are a vital part of the health care team, and although there is an increased demand for
nurses, unfortunately, there is also an impending decline in the supply of nurses. In
the United States history, there have been a few instances of nursing shortages that
were overcome; however, this forthcoming dilemma seems unpromising. In the
Nursing Shortagevideo segment, The Journal of American Medical Association
predicts a shortage of registered nurses by 2020 (Where Have All the Nurses
Gone? [Video file], 2001). While nurses are crucial for the delivery of high quality
care to patients, because of a few influences a severe shortage of them is approaching
if we don t come up with solutions to this issue.
To uncover a solution to the problem, we must first understand the reasons behind
the nursing shortage. In the years following 1945 there was an increase in birth
rates, but after 1964 there was a significant decline. This generation is also known
as the baby boomers, are currently between the ages of fifty three and seventy two.
The National Council of State Boards of Nursing reports 55% of the RN workforce
is age 50 or older; the Health Resources and Services Administration projects that one
million nurses are eligible for retirement in 10 15 years (Snavely, 2016). With this

Dr Sapolsky Baboon
1. Dr. Sapolsky s research in the Masai Mara National Park of Kenya involved
collecting blood samples from baboons to measure hormones involved in the stress
response. After anaesthetizing the baboon in an unassuming way (to avoid hormones
produced from anticipatory stress) he collected blood samples from their bodies.
What he observed was adrenaline and glucocorticoids dictate the stress response. The
physiological changes to the body during the stress response are the lungs work
overtime to deliver oxygen to the bloodstream, and the heart races to pump oxygen
throughout the body so muscles respond instantly. The blood pressure needs to go up
to deliver energy. The body will turn off anything that is not essential at that moment.

b) The Dutch Hunger Winter is an example of how stress damages us before we are
aware of its presence. Tessa Roseboom concluded our bodies respond to famine in
the same way they respond to other stressors, so she endeavored to research if the
fetuses of the women pregnant during the famine could be affected by stress. She
identified over 2400 people who could have been impacted. Her research revealed
the stresses they underwent as fetuses still impacted them 60 years later. Babies
conceived during the famine have increased risk of cardiovascular disease, higher
hypercholesterolemia, are generally more responsive to stress and are in poorer
health than people born before the famine or conceived after it. Stress hormones in
the mother s blood triggered a change in the fetus nervous system as it struggled to
survive. This was the fetus first experience with stress, and 60 years later their
bodies remembered the trauma. Her discoveries shed light on how it is not just fat
cells that build up in response to stress; brain chemistry, the capacity and ability to
adapt to stress, and how prone one is to psychiatric disorders are all things affected

Abraham Maslow Hierarchy Of Hierarchy
Abraham Maslow, who was a humanistic psychologist, argued that needs are
arranged in a ladder like steps. He proposed a rising order of needs from the level
of physiological to self transcendence. The order of needs starts from basic survival
or lower order needs to higher order needs. As one level of need is satisfied another
higher order need will emerge and assume importance in life. The hierarchy is
shown in Fig. Physiological needs: The most potent and lowest level of all the
needs are physiological needs. Thus the needs of hunger, thirst, sex, temperature
regulation and rest occupy the lowest step in the ladder. According to Maslow, when
these physiological needs are deprived for a long period, all other needs fail to appear

secure, safe and out of danger. Love and Belongingness needs: These are the needs
of making intimate relationship with other members of the society. People want to

such as family. These needs are dependent on the fulfilment and satisfaction of
physiological and safety needs. The Esteem needs: Esteem needs are divided into
the following two categories: (a) Needs related to respect from others like
reputation, status, social success and fame. The need of self evaluation occurs in
those persons who are comfortably situated and satisfied with the fulfilment of
lower order needs. For example, a competent professional who has established a
high reputation and does not have to worry about getting a job, may become quite
choosy about what type of work he/she would accept. (b) Self esteem, self respect

once the primary contributor to the United Nations for peacekeeping. Now Canada

people looked at Canadaas a symbol of peace which many still do, but most do not
know that Canada has fled from its old ways and now is just an image of the past.

Canada contributes nothing to the world of peacekeeping. Canada disgraces its
past image by not being a piece of the puzzle to peacekeeping. It is an abnormality
that peacekeeping that no longer relates to the Canadian society. The previous
statistics as a peacekeeper are drastically different than the current stats. High of
3,336, started at 850. As of Sept 2014 118 (Shepard) Canada s participation in
peacekeeping has changed over the past years from prominent to non existent. If
Canada was once called the peacekeeper now it should be called the nothing keeper,
because Canada is not keeping anything at this point. They started higher than what
they are currently. Canada s contribution is nothing compared to the past as they are
a disappointment to their past peacekeeping image. In conclusion Canada no longer
has the reputation as a peacekeeper due to its lack of contribution. Along with
Canada s lack of contribution, Canada s political figures do not consider Canada a
peacekeeper. The previous Prime Minister Stephen Harper had his own opinion of
Canada and peacekeeping. Stephen Harper says (Canada) out of the peacekeeping
business . The fact that the Prime Minister explicitly stated that Canada has no
relevance to peacekeeping is mind boggling considering how relevant Canada used to
be. When Canada s own prime minister makes a statement about their prominence it
proves how much Canada has changed. Although through Justin Trudeau,
What Is Voyeurism In Rear Window
I chose to critique a movie called Rear Window, a realist film by Alfred Hitchcock

Hitchcock, the director points it out to the audience as he concentrates on Jeff
focusing on what s happening inside his neighborhood. Allowing the audience to stay

Alfred Hitchcock has unlimited technical brilliance with a boundless ability to
portray a story in a very distinctive manner. Using the techniques of dramatic
variation of size to achieve other desired emotions from the audience, by cutting
from long shots to extreme close ups. The story line in the film revolves around
voyeurism, guilt, friendship, and sexuality. Moreover, the editing techniques in the
film raise attention to the events that unfold in front of us. The shots in the movie
are edited in a relatively subjective style. According to Hitchcock Editing shouldn t
be in terms of cutting but rather in terms of assembly or Mosaic (Hitchcok, 1963,
p.4). Therefor, Montage is the process or technique of selecting and piecing together
separate sections of film to form a continuous sequence. When two shots juxtapose in
such a way it gives the third shot another meaning. This is one classic examples of
Alfred Hitchcock s way of thinking. The voyeurism practiced in the film makes the
audience conscious of why the protagonist is behaving in a certain

Blackberry Picking
Weaving Maturity and Innocence Together; an Analysis of Blackberry Picking As
people grow into adulthood, they experience a loss of innocence, a series of events
that leads them to see the world in a different, darker lens. Seamus Heaney s 1999
poem Blackberry Picking explores this idea. This poem uses mature diction
combined with a childish rhyme scheme of AABB to explain how the sweetness of
one s youth becomes soured when they experience reality and how this process is
inevitable in tainting their past. As the reader analyzes this poem they immediately
recognize the seemingly out of place mature language used in a poem about berry
picking. The text uses words such as thickened wine and lust for. These are very adult
phrases and topics used to describe a childhood memory, which helps show that when
one loses their innocence, their recollections are permanently changed. Another way
the mature diction is used is a contrast to the childlike story that is being told in the
poem. This extreme contrast is important because it... Show more content on

The poem uses the simplistic rhyme scheme of AABB, which is typically found in
nursery rhymes and children stories. By using this rhyme scheme for the whole
poem, the speaker is able to make known that the poem is about a memory of
blackberry picking, not a current event. The lines also end very simply, ending with
rhymes such as clot/knot and sun/ripen. Yet, as the poem continues the rhyme
schemes become muddled and lost, which is shown through rhymes like pots/boots
and sour/fair. The rhymes don t fit with the beginning of the poem, similarly how the
mature language doesn t fit into the poem. The poem ultimately ends with
disappointment, with the line Each year I hoped they d keep, knew that they would
not. This helps tie the overall theme that nothing truly stays the same, that everything

The Judiciary System
The Judiciary System: A Firm Reprimand Leading to a Brighter Path
Whenever heinous crimes happen, people call for severe punishments to be brought
upon the offenders. Public sentiments get so intense, in fact, that courts will often
hold tougher trials and spur prosecution investigations. However, there are cases
when offenders get a lesser sentence than the public sentiment sees fit, especially
when the offenders are juveniles. The grounds for the judicial system s leniency are
that the reform of offenders is important, that law severity doesn t influence crime
rate, and that second convictions can be prevented.
Lenient criminal punishment can make way for juvenile reform and re education. One
of the foremost objectives of the juvenile court is to help guide delinquents into a
better track and make sure that they repent and don t commit the same mistake again.
The reason their crime is viewed as a mistake is that a person is greatly influenced by
the environment during their youth. An analysis of criminal background shows that ...

crime rate and law severity is ambiguous because sanctions only work when juveniles
are aware of the penalties they may face and also the likelihood of getting caught. In
fact, research has found that few juveniles even knew about related laws, let alone
thought that they would get caught and face serious punishments (Redding 4). Due
to this kind of immaturity on the juvenile offender s part, it cannot be expected of
them to weigh out the consequences of their actions. Accordingly, it is not rational to
strengthen sentence severity since juveniles can t foresee the fallout and,
consequently, the judicial system would not actually reach its goal of juvenile crime
An Essay On Ants
Ants are relatives of bees and wasps and like them they too live in colonies and each
ant
colony has several different kinds of ants. Although the ants in colony belong to the
same species
they look different. Ant colonies are described as super organisms as a colony works
in a
unified manner. Mainly an ant colony consists of queen ants, drones or the male ants
and worker
ants. Ants have colonized every part of Earth except Antarctica and a few other
extremely
inhospitable lands. Ants form colonies that range in size from a few dozen
individuals living in
small natural cavities to highly organized colonies that occupy large amount of space
and
consists of millions of individuals. All ant species need sheltered places to nest ...

Such individuals are sometimes called soldier ants because their
stronger mandibles make them more effective in fighting. In a few species, the
median workers
are absent, creating a sharp divide between the minors and majors
Queen Ants
Each ant colony has one or more than one queen ants whose main work is to lay
fertilized eggs. In most species of ants the queen breeds only once in their lifetime and
breeding mainly takes place in summer. Each queen ant can lay about thousands of
eggs per
year. Most of the queens offspring become worker ants that do not reproduce; some
become
new queens and some male ants. When a new queen finds a good place for a nest,
she builds
a small chamber and lays some eggs. When the eggs hatch, the queen finds food, and
feeds
and takes care of the offspring s until they mature. They become workers, and they
take over
all the work in the nest. The queen does nothing but lay eggs. Queen ants live for
several
years and depending on the species of the ant some queens may even live up to 30
years.
Most queen ants develop wings which they use for flying and find a good place to
start a new
colony. Once they ve found a good spot, their wings fall off and they start laying eggs

Letter Requesting An Emergency Rental
Mr. Norton,
I have been waiting patiently to hear back from you since receiving your last
correspondence Wednesday, March 9, 2016 at 10:22 AM. At that time you told me
that all your rentals were currently completely but and that you are requesting an
emergency rental from I assume the corporate office said that the recall work can be
fulfilled on our van. I can t think of a single reason as to why I haven t heard from
you since than even if it was a simple update on the status and that you are still
working hard to obtain a rental for us.
On March 22, 2016 I had a friend call your office requesting an event or of an
accessible van for the dates April 11, 2016 through April 15, 2016. She was told
that there was a vehicle available during that time in which my friend responded
that they would call back to finalize the booking. Needless to say, my friend didn t
book the rental and we only did this to see if you were really trying your hardest to
remedy my issue. I can only come to one of two conclusions at this point. Is there
whoever answered the phone made a mistake about the availability of the rental or
you haven t been trying to resolve the issues and get the recall work done on our
van as you promised. Hopefully, for your sake and is the first of the two conclusions.
This entire issue is become ridiculous and so is a complete lack of professionalism
from the office branch of Mobilityworks! It is inexcusable that what started by a

Compare And Contrast Tom Brady And Lebron James
Tom Brady and Lebron James both acheived success through hard work and
determination.
Tom brady and Lebron James were both average sports players who both failed time
and time again to make their high school sports teams.
Tom brady had a goal of becoming his high school football team s starting
quarterback, but lacked the talent to do so.
Also, Lebron James had the desire to make his high school basketball team, however,
he lacked the money to afford the bills that came with the sport of basketball.
Though they failed continously to achieve their goal, they never gave up and soon
acheived what many had perceived they couldn t do.
They gained success through hard work and their achievements, which luck had no
part in.

Argumentative Essay On Vegetarianism
Whether you re a hard core vegetarian, or someone who wants to find out what Tofu
actually tastes like, going meatless isn t always easy.
Especially, when you re in college, it seems like every meal option contains some
animal product or meat within it.
I remember during my freshman year of college, I was on the school meal plan and I
struggled daily trying to find ways around the constant meat heavy items. Though the
meal plan did have vegan and some vegetarian options, I still found it hard not
eating the same meals every day. However, through trial and error I have come up
with some awesome tips for anyone looking to go meatless while also attending
college.
Tip #1 Don t be afraid to ask about the ingredients!
This tip applies to any vegetarian, whether you have a meal plan or not! I personally
try not to eat foods with chicken or beef broth in them, and many soups and sauces
may contain either. I also try not to eat foods cooked in the fats of animals and
unfortunately, a lot of fried food is prepared with it. If you re ever unsure about
what is in your food, make sure to ask the waiter or cook. When it comes to certain
foods, it is better to ask than just assume. For instance, one of my favorite soups
from Panera was the broccoli cheddar, but I recently found out that they cook it with
chicken broth instead of vegetable. Of course I was devastated, but I found out their
autumn squash is completely vegetarian so now that one is my new favorite. Of
course, if you re

First Letter To Corinthians
There are many meaningful passages in the Holy Bible, but a passage from the first
letter to the Corinthians touched me the most. Your every act should be done with
love (1 Corinthians 16:14). Readers must read the first letter to the Corinthians as a
whole book before attempting to understand the passage, because apostle Paul, the
author of the text, provides readers with a thorough understanding into the life of an
early Christian community of the first generation than any other book of the New
Testament. Paul may have written more, but there are only two epistles documented
in the New Testament with the other two included within the two canonical epistles,
which he wrote to the Christian church in the city of Corinth. During the year 56, the
community of Corinth was manifesting open factionalism: certain members were
distinguishing themselves solely with individual Christian leaders, living publicly in
an incestuous union, engaged in legal conflicts in pagan courts of law, participating
in religious prostitution, and performing temple sacrifices. The lively pagan culture
that Corinth was famous for had crept into the church making it difficult to identify
the Christians and non Christians. The... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

their conduct and behavior towards one another be out of love and charity as
referring to the unrevised form of this text, Let all your things be done with charity (1
Corinthians 16:14). Paul emphasizes that love should bear all things, cover legions of
sins, and that all the Corinthians church affairs and meetings should be conducted in
peace with mutual affection instead of animosity and arrogance. The main message
Paul is conveying is love conquers

students. I provided office hours addressing any questions or concerns they may

was an opportunity to speak English. Being Present 1. When I arrived to class I
expected myself and my students to be fully present. If they were experiencing joy,
sadness, a burden, I would have them share with the class before continuing on. This
allowed my students to be focused on the now and not on what happened or will
happen. An exercise that helped them accomplish this was to write something down
that may be hindering them from being present and deposit it, without their name,
into a classroom box. Temprarily, I was able to clear their mind and get them
focused on what is happening now. See more at: http://www.educationworld.com

Being self aware while teaching meant that I was aware of what I was saying, what
I was thinking and how I was responding to the leaners and the instructional
material. I was self ware of the decisions I made in and out of class. This is also what
I encouraged in my students. Encouraging students to be self aware, they consciously
paid more attention. The learner proactively viewed themselves from the position of
their higher self, through their feelings thoughts, decisions, and actions. I expected no
less of them than what I expected of myself. Unskilled. Two areas that I am not

Google And Its Relationship With China
Opening The quick advancement and progress of the internet across the world has led
to many great opportunities for American business. However, this advancement has
pushed the bounds for some countries on their stance for the free flow of information.
This has been the problem for Google and its relationship with China. The restrictions
set up by the Chinese governmentgo against the ideas and ethics of Google.
However, the presence of Google will likely help push political change by opening
some doors for accessing information. This will also have the added opportunity of

Analysis Of The Story Cathedral By Raymond Carver
The Story Cathedral by Raymond Carver is about true blindness and the effects of
emotional contact. Peterson studies the use of determiners, a and the, that refer to the
blind man in the story and its effects to establish the atmosphere of the story. He
states that the change in determiner seems subtle, but these subtle changes are
significant because the changes show how narrator feel about Robert throughout the
story. Nesset studies the sexual polices and the lovelives in several Carver s stories.
He discusses how Carver wrote his stories based on less of love and more of love
withdrawal. Also Facknitz addresses rediscovery of human worth and the effects of
emotional touch by discussing three short stories written by Carver. He analyses each
narration of the narrator and comments based on psychological manner. The story
Cathedral suggests the meaning of true blindnessdoes not only refer to physical
disability; it refers to those people who cannot see the world from other s perspectives
and it can be overcome through emotional contact.
The story Cathedral by Carver Raymond was published in 1983, when about 11.7
percent of the US population was considered poor by government standards (Aker
45). Tim Akers mentions that around this year, the wages people got from their
employers were not sufficient to raise them out of the poverty level (Aker 45).
Akers adds that like in the 1980s, Carver experienced poverty even though both he
and his wife worked for a living (Aker

Criticism Of The Screwtape Letters
What a Tragedy! The Screwtape Letters by C.S. Lewis is a satirical comedy about a
demon, Wormwood, who tries to influence the behavior of his patient. The letters are
written to Wormwood by his uncle, Screwtape. Wormwood s ultimate goal by
influencing the patient s actions is to ensure that he will end up in hell. Though
Wormwoodtries his best to excel in every task he is assigned, he usually ends up
failing. As a result of Wormwood s failures, Screwtape provides him with helpful
advice that comes with criticism. Although Lewis intended for the story to be
comical, it should be interpreted as a tragedy. In the beginning of chapter 5,
Screwtape is infuriated with Wormwood. Screwtape expected a detailed report from
Wormwood on his progress with the patient and instead he received a vague
rhapsody because Wormwood was intoxicated. Wormwood is reminded that duty
comes before pleasure. This instance is similar to one that Henri Bergson uses in his
theory of comedy. Bergson suggest the idea of absentmindedness. He defines this
as, when a certain comic effect has its origin in a certain cause, the more natural
we regard the cause to be, the more comic shall we find the effect. (Bergson) Most
adults would claim that they have had a drink of alcohol before. Drinking alcohol
is a natural human feature, that even Jesus partook in. However, when done in
excess it can cause a series of issues. One issue being that you are not able to properly

  • 2. Essay on Postmodern condition 1. What is meant by the postmodern condition ? Postmodernism can be called a condition of contemporary culture , it is a modern movement which is strong, ambiguous, very popular and controversial. However, it is very difficult to explain the term because there is no full clarity what the term really means. As one can read in The Condition of Postmodernityit is a mine field of conflicting notions and a battleground of conflicting opinions and political forces . There are so many interpretations, definitions and evaluations of the term that it is hardly possible to build a coherent definition, or to be brave enough to attempt to describe it. Almost everyone has a different opinion about it, advocate for or against or are... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... One of the hyperreality images and the world of imagination (Baudrillard writes) is Disneyland, which is the perfect model of all those confusing orders of simulation. It is primarily a game of illusions and phantasms. Imaginary world of Disneyland is neither true nor false. It is a space of regeneration of the world of imagination, reminiscent of a recycling factory. Thus, the world of the imagination of children and adults is a rubbish, the first great civilization hyper real pollution. Disneyland is a prototype of this new feature on the mental area. As one can read in Simulacra and Simulation It is no longer a question of a false representation of reality (ideology) but of concealing the fact that the real is no longer real, and thus of saving the reality principle . Another example of flipping a deeper reality by its overriding, and then hiding its deficiencies, through breaking any relations with it and finally achieving the status of its simulacrum, completely emancipated from the power of what is real is the Sokal hoax. Sokal saw a marked reduction in the standards of intellectual reliability in some American humanistic academic circles. That is why he decided to do the experiment , which consisted in checking whether the leading American journal dedicated to cultural research will publish a text full of nonsense, if it only sound good. It turned out

Even in a globalized world of countries that are interdependent on one another, there still is progress to be made. I could not help but smile. Continuing my run, I reached the Ganges River, and surprisingly found my cousin, Archit, there. He is studying to become a CA for Price Waterhouse Coopers India office. We talk of life and politics, although with India s politics it seems the majority of people want progress. Progress for small businesses and more support for the ideas that they create from both the government and businesses. I felt obligated to represent my country as best I could, remarking on how Canadian businesses like Selinger, a construction development company, and Blackberry have successfully entered the market, created jobs for many unemployed people, and helped found hundreds of new ventures. It s not enough, according to Archit. It s conversations like these that brought a new sense of urgency and opportunity to my time in India. Looking forward, I realize how useful The Schulich School of Business and its iBBA program could be to me. The program would allow me to connect with more people and companies on an international level, allowing me to effectively harness my newly acquired linguistic skills to gain a global perspective, and help build sustainable solutions using all my experiences as a guide. The genetically modified food like the insect resistant maize and herbicide tolerant soybean is in the US food market for almost 20 years with noteworthy advantages including reduced use of insecticides and herbicides, lessened labor costs and enhancement in food quality (Brookes Barfoot, 2012). Sociocultural idiosyncrasies are different in different communities. Many countries within the European Union are reluctant invest time and effort to uplift genetic modification of food production. In the United States, most of the people accept genetically modified food without major concerns and a few other groups of people opposes genetically modified food (Zilberman, Kaplan, Kim, Hochman, Graff, 2013). The first two compared, are private art museums in the United States, compared to a private art museum in another country. Secondly, a university natural history museum is compared to another university natural history museum in a foreign country. The comparisons involve taking a closer look at the history, function, staffing, and programs at museums. Many reasons can lead collectors to starting a private museum. The English Imperial System пїјпїјNicholas Wonosaputra Mrs. Laura Randazzo Honors Freshman English 26 January 2016 The System of Change The English Imperial System of measurement has become a symbol of pride for the United States, yet also the cause for the country s isolation, and internal confusion. It is due to these inconveniences that Lincoln Chaffee, a 2016 Democratic presidential candidate and former Rhode Island governor, states that the country must, be bold [and] join the rest of the world and go metric (Jaffe). Furthermore, parents using English Imperial measurements while utilizing standardized instruments were still two times as likely to make a dosing error as those who used the Metric measurement units (Yin et. al). Considering the more than 20 percent of children under 12 years of age are taking oral medication at any given time in the United States, it is imperative that parents are sure and precise in measuring dosages for their children (Vernacchio et. al). By transferring medication instructions from tablespoons and teaspoons to milliliters, the safety of children within the United States will increase drastically. When the impacts within science, international affairs, and child safety are considered, it is clear that the United States must make the crucial decision of adopting the Metric System. While the transition to metric will need hard work and patience from within the United States, the overall benefits will outweigh the temporary costs, giving the country the boost it needs to interact more freely with other countries with a universally agreed system. It is time for the United States to recognize the Metric System s worth, as it will change the country s future for the

Life has its ups and downs and we all learn to deal with them in different ways. Some people use exercise to release stress while others find places to hide from the stress for short periods of time. I found a place of relaxation hundreds of feet above everyone looking down. Right outside of town there is a cliff that overlooks the downtown area. There I feel as though I am above everyone and nothing could touch me. I believe we both developed a better understanding not only of each other, but of others as well. We could have spent hours just talking, laughing, and really feeling alive. What we really found hilarious and surprising was that Dubuque actually looked absolutely immaculate from such a height. We would never have guessed the difference in appearance just by looking downward on the city. One of the first times my friend and I explored the cliff she found a ragged looking envelope with a dated letter of desperation in it. It was addressed to Whom it May Concern, and its contents were packed with problems, dreams, answers, and lies in a sing song pattern. We had to read it a couple of times to fully consume the poetry and figure out the words that were erased from the still damp paper. About three pages the poet went on about life in general. It really touched the both of us and after that, we began to bring our poetry to the cliff and read aloud some of our thoughts. We never did find out who the author of the poetic letter was, however, it gave us both the feeling of new hope. I found it very refreshing to know that some people face life s obstacles in such a creative way. The way I see it and I think the way the author of the poem sees it, is that when in nature, and especially looking down upon the world, there is a distance you begin to take on from that world, the world of the not so beautiful reality. • 10. The Little Black Boy By William Blake And Racism Is Around... Every human has the same red blood. Though he or she is black, white, Hispanic or Asian it does not matter; everyone supposed to have equal rights. But, racism still exists. Why do different races of people have different heights? Was the person born that way? The Little Black Boy by William Blake and RacismIs around Me Everywhere by Francis Duggan are the two poems about how racism causes inequality. Realization of differences, fear of loss and displacement, condition of being uneducated, lack of awareness, lack of self love, unworthy feelings, desire to feel superior all lead to result inequality among the people. Superiority of white to other races creates inequality in the society. Imitation of the oldest cultures and feelings of separation in the society makes people mentally different from others. Likewise, people s minds are effected more when they see how the society has dominant races and differentiate people from their races. Racism causes inequality because of the feeling of separation, fear of racism, and the existence of the racism everywhere. One reason is feeling of separation. Society is formed with different religions, cultures, races. As biologically every individual seems to be different, always exist because of the skin color, hair, and physical appearance. According to Blake, My mother bore me in the southern wild; And I am black, but O! my soul is white; White as an angel is the English child; But I am black as if bereav d of the light.

So in that case performance measures should be selected to end goals of a particular institute. Solution Proposing a balanced scorecard Balanced scorecard is a set of measures, which give the complete view of any business performance. Kaplan and Norton (1995) explained balanced scorecard in following words: The balanced scorecard should translate a business unit s mission and strategy into tangible objectives and measures. The measures represent a balance between external measures for shareholders and customers and internal measures of critical business processes, innovation and learning and growth. The measures are balance between outcome measures, the results of past efforts, and the measures that drive future performance. • 14. Antagonism Between Ja And Cytokinin Antagonism between JA and cytokinin is of common occurrence in various plant growth and developmental processes. Cytokinin, benzyladenine (BA) has been reported to antagonize the effect of JA on root growth promotion in Solanum tuberosum (Sarkar et al., 2006). In cotyledons of sunflower (Helianthus annuus), MeJA promoted senescence, whereas pretreatment with cytokinin partially blocked MeJA induced senescence (Mukherjee et al., 2002). Liu et al. (2015) concluded that exogenous applications of JA and cytokinin antagonistically regulated leaf senescence in O. sativa senescence associated genes expression. They also proposed that leaf senescence not only depends on the level of JA or cytokinin but also on the balance between JA and cytokinin (Liu et al., 2015). Earlier, Ananieva and Ananiev (2003) argued that MeJA promoted some aspects of senescence in intact Cucurbita pepo cotyledons partially due to down regulation of endogenous levels of cytokinine levels and interconversion between active and inactive forms of cytokines (Ananieva and Ananiev, 2003). Apart from the above reports, antagonistic effect of cytokinins on the stimulatory effect of JAs has also been observed in potato tuber formation under in vitro conditions (Sarkar et al., 2006). A synergistic effect of JA and cytokinin has also been reported in T. aestivum to alleviate effects of salinity stress. 5.4. Richardson, Glaeser places certain focus on the importance of sanitation and the provision of clean water as fundamental components in reducing disease in cities. While this issue is highly relevant to the wellbeing of citizens in urban concentrations, Glaeser seems less concerned with it as most present day cities have overcome these issues through provision of sufficient infrastructure. Of greater interest to the economically fixated Glaeser is the proposal and implementation of urban planning reforms aiming to reduce traffic congestion in metropolitan areas. He points out that congestion encumbers productivity in cities, and is adamant in his view that every driver should be charged for the external cost that their use of the road deposits on other drivers. From an economic perspective, it makes great sense to charge people for their bearing on congested roads to make up for lost time and productivity. Though the author fails to consider other solutions to the congestion problem, such as increasing public transport opportunities and investing in pedestrian and bicycle facilities, his favoured solution would still work well as part of a larger scheme to reduce traffic

Blackberry Picking Weaving Maturity and Innocence Together; an Analysis of Blackberry Picking As people grow into adulthood, they experience a loss of innocence, a series of events that leads them to see the world in a different, darker lens. Seamus Heaney s 1999 poem Blackberry Picking explores this idea. This poem uses mature diction combined with a childish rhyme scheme of AABB to explain how the sweetness of one s youth becomes soured when they experience reality and how this process is inevitable in tainting their past. As the reader analyzes this poem they immediately recognize the seemingly out of place mature language used in a poem about berry picking. The text uses words such as thickened wine and lust for. These are very adult phrases and topics used to describe a childhood memory, which helps show that when one loses their innocence, their recollections are permanently changed. Another way the mature diction is used is a contrast to the childlike story that is being told in the poem. This extreme contrast is important because it... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The poem uses the simplistic rhyme scheme of AABB, which is typically found in nursery rhymes and children stories. By using this rhyme scheme for the whole poem, the speaker is able to make known that the poem is about a memory of blackberry picking, not a current event. The lines also end very simply, ending with rhymes such as clot/knot and sun/ripen. Yet, as the poem continues the rhyme schemes become muddled and lost, which is shown through rhymes like pots/boots and sour/fair. The rhymes don t fit with the beginning of the poem, similarly how the mature language doesn t fit into the poem. The poem ultimately ends with disappointment, with the line Each year I hoped they d keep, knew that they would not. This helps tie the overall theme that nothing truly stays the same, that everything ends, including

  • 39. The Judiciary System The Judiciary System: A Firm Reprimand Leading to a Brighter Path Whenever heinous crimes happen, people call for severe punishments to be brought upon the offenders. Public sentiments get so intense, in fact, that courts will often hold tougher trials and spur prosecution investigations. However, there are cases when offenders get a lesser sentence than the public sentiment sees fit, especially when the offenders are juveniles. The grounds for the judicial system s leniency are that the reform of offenders is important, that law severity doesn t influence crime rate, and that second convictions can be prevented. Lenient criminal punishment can make way for juvenile reform and re education. One of the foremost objectives of the juvenile court is to help guide delinquents into a better track and make sure that they repent and don t commit the same mistake again. The reason their crime is viewed as a mistake is that a person is greatly influenced by the environment during their youth. An analysis of criminal background shows that ... However, the link between crime rate and law severity is ambiguous because sanctions only work when juveniles are aware of the penalties they may face and also the likelihood of getting caught. In fact, research has found that few juveniles even knew about related laws, let alone thought that they would get caught and face serious punishments (Redding 4). Due to this kind of immaturity on the juvenile offender s part, it cannot be expected of them to weigh out the consequences of their actions. Accordingly, it is not rational to strengthen sentence severity since juveniles can t foresee the fallout and, consequently, the judicial system would not actually reach its goal of juvenile crime
