INTRODUCATION
•The demonstration method is based on the principal
of “Learning by doing”. The clinical teaching of
procedure in hospital is based on demonstration.
•It is the most important method of teaching in
nursing. It teaches by explanation and exhibition.
•“Demonstration is a method of teaching by
exhibition and explanation or experiments”.
•Demonstration is method of presentation of skill
which shows how a particular procedure is performed.
DEFINITION
•Learning by doing maxim is followed.
•Skill can be developed by limitation.
•The perception helps in imitation.
PRINCIPLES
•To acquire knowledge and skill.
•To develop attitude.
•To retain and able to use the achieved skill.
•To demonstrate experiment or procedure.
•To introduce a new procedure.
•To teach the patient a procedure or treatment.
PURPOSES
•Understandable and exemplary.
•Pre- preparation.
•Equipments should be assembled and pretested.
•Advance knowledge.
•Setting should be true to life.
•Opportunity to practice
CHARACTERISTICS
1. Explanation phase.
2. Demonstration phase.
3. Student performance and instructor supervision
phase
4. Evaluation phase.
DEMONSTRATION PERFORMANCE
METHODS/PHASES:
•Direct experience.
•This method promotes learning and correlates theory and
practice.
•It sharpens the observation skills.
•It stimulate interest.
•It activates several sense which is make easy to understand.
•Help teacher to evaluate the student’s response.
•Step by step.
•Attention catching.
ADVANTAGES
•Practice may be limited due to cost of supplies and equipments.
•Increased faculty workload involved in supervision of
students practice time.
•Limited to small group.
•High instructor/student ratio requires 10:1
•High cost in personnel and time.
•Difficulty in repeating demonstration in order to acquire
competence.
DISADVANTAGES
•The demonstration method is based on the principal
of “learning by doing”. It is useful in demonstrating
scientific experiments, procedures and application of
equipment.

  • 3. INTRODUCATION •The demonstration method is based on the principal of “Learning by doing”. The clinical teaching of procedure in hospital is based on demonstration. •It is the most important method of teaching in nursing. It teaches by explanation and exhibition.
  • 4. •“Demonstration is a method of teaching by exhibition and explanation or experiments”. •Demonstration is method of presentation of skill which shows how a particular procedure is performed. DEFINITION
  • 5. •Learning by doing maxim is followed. •Skill can be developed by limitation. •The perception helps in imitation. PRINCIPLES
  • 6. •To acquire knowledge and skill. •To develop attitude. •To retain and able to use the achieved skill. •To demonstrate experiment or procedure. •To introduce a new procedure. •To teach the patient a procedure or treatment. PURPOSES
  • 7. •Understandable and exemplary. •Pre- preparation. •Equipments should be assembled and pretested. •Advance knowledge. •Setting should be true to life. •Opportunity to practice CHARACTERISTICS

  • 9. •Direct experience. •This method promotes learning and correlates theory and practice. •It sharpens the observation skills. •It stimulate interest. •It activates several sense which is make easy to understand. •Help teacher to evaluate the student’s response. •Step by step. •Attention catching. ADVANTAGES
  • 10. •Practice may be limited due to cost of supplies and equipments. •Increased faculty workload involved in supervision of students practice time. •Limited to small group. •High instructor/student ratio requires 10:1 •High cost in personnel and time. •Difficulty in repeating demonstration in order to acquire competence. DISADVANTAGES
  • 11. •The demonstration method is based on the principal of “learning by doing”. It is useful in demonstrating scientific experiments, procedures and application of equipment. CONCLUSION
