This document describes the characteristics of a fan delta front and the facies that make it up. It can be divided into subaqueous distributary channels, subaqueous distributary mouth bars, and sheet sands. Channels contain conglomerates and sandstones with cross-bedding. Mouth bars contain well-sorted sandstones and mudstones with low-angle cross-bedding. Sheet sands are thin sandstone layers distributed at the outer edge of mouth bars. Gilbert-type fan deltas are also common in ancient lakes located near basin edges with steep slopes.
