Change At Green Mountain Resort
Change at Green Mountain Resort Green Mountain Resort was a hospitality organization which
underwent significant change after its original purpose vanished and the need to become more
independent became key to its success (Palmer, Dunford, Akin, 2009). Due to the demographics of the
county which Green Mountain Resort was located, the resort management faced a challenged
concerning human capital (Palmer, Dunford, Akin, 2009). The new owner and manager, Gunter,
identified human capital turnover as a problem, the hospitality industry claimed turnover as a chronic
problem, and a newly hire consultant brought up an entirely new perspective to the so called turnover
problem (Palmer, Dunford Akin, 2009). We ll first review Gunter s perspective and approach. Initially,
Gunter s image of change outcome was that of a controlling director. He identified a potential problem
area (turnover) and assumed through intended control, change could be achievable (Palmer, Dunford,
Akin, 2009). After further analysis, Gunter also identified limitations from outside factors, such as
available human capital resources making him somewhat of a navigator with only partially intended
outcome. As a director, Gunter intended to simply fix the turnover problem. As a navigator, he
recognized the outside factors. This led him to seek further analysis through further industry research
(Palmer, Dunford, Akin, 2009). Hospitality industry research indicated turnover was a chronic

Organization Structures and Cultures
Introduction
Successful companies must continue to meet the demands of revolving markets. Technology is
assisting companies grow at a rapid pace. Organization structures must be looked at and scrutinized
with the change of the market. Organization behavioral changes, even slight ones, must be carefully
planned in order to minimize the stress on its employees. Several modern companies have come up
with creative ways to keep employee morale at a constant high level and compete with an ever so
demanding market.
A company can start out by using one of several organization structures. However, companies can
sometimes increase their effectiveness using multiple organization structures. The decision for ...

My Service Advisors Are Not Actively Selling Preventative...
If your service advisors are not actively selling preventative maintenance on a continuous basis, they
are leaving money on the table that should be easy enough to get. This is especially true if they know
customers from dealing with them in the past and have access to their maintenance history and repair
records. It s a matter of being proactive with your customers and explaining the real value of staying
ahead in the repair and maintenance game.
Every time a customer comes to your service department for any reason, you have an opportunity to
sell them on preventative maintenance that may not come your way again. Often, customers go to
their service department only when they have repair needs they are not sure of, and go to secondary
repair and maintenance shops for things like oil changes, brake service or tires. This is usually because
they believe these kinds of things to be less expensive in outside shops than they are at their
dealership, which is not necessarily so. But, if no one tells them that how will they know?
Many people neglect to perform preventive maintenance on their vehicles because they have not been
properly informed of the value it brings to them. The may have little or no knowledge of such things
and may be intimidated about asking. Certainly, this is an important part of the job of a service
advisor. Often, because of the negative light that has been focused in recent years on abusive up
selling practices, a service advisors fails to offer

Mirror, Courage, And The Explorer)
Life Lessons
(Literary analysis on Mirror, Courage, and Explorer) Anxiety is one of the hardest things to overcome
and face up to. People may put others down that they think are lesser than themselves, this is very true
for women in 1950s and how men looked down on them. But women finally had a chance coming out
of the Great Depression and others looking for new views to look at. Three very famous titles come
out by three different women showcases their talents and view through their writing. There is Mirror
by Sylvia Plath portraying the opinion of beauty and aging. The second title being Courage by Anne
Sexton bringing to attention the struggle every human being had overcome to become an
adult/growing up that usually goes unnoticed. Then the third title The Explorer by Gwendolyn Brooks
showing the inner voice of a people who are put in new situations. Davis said on an online article, it is
bad enough that so many women dealt with sexism for as long as they did . Women in the 1950s
struggle trying to get there message out over the men, but compared to earlier years this was the first
time they were even given a chance. Mirror, Courage, and The Explorer all display 1 message on
prevailing and finding your true self. Certainly, Mirror Challenges a woman who is aging and
realizing she is no longer the young beautiful being she once was. The women is left wondering why it
is she is old and is sad that it happened to her, when she was younger she felt invincible. The poem

Accredited programme requirements were created from the...
Accredited programme requirements were created from the Criminal Justice Act 2003 but in order to
understand how this came to be it is significant that the history and political context of the probation
service is understood.
The Probation of Offenders Act was established in 1907 and under this act the release if offenders into
the community under the control of probation officers were made official. The primary aim of the
probation was made clear under this act which was to advise, assist and befriend and it continued that
way until 1970 s. During this period it transformed into an agency concerned with casework,
diagnosis, and rehabilitation rather than the influence of personal character, psychological
understandings of human ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, research carried out in the 1990 s as part of what works movement identified that the most
successful sentences were those that attempted to change, not only the offender s behaviour but also
their attitude towards their offending (Hollin, 2007). This catalysed the push towards cognitive
behavioural approaches and by 1999 one especially important development was the establishment of
the Correctional Services Accreditation Panel, which quality assured probation and prison
programmes for rehabilitating offending. This technique brought an emphasis of individual
responsibility of an offender (Mair,2004). A criticism of this was the lack of attention of sociological
factors that can influence criminal behaviour.
Responsibility of offenders can be considered to have arose as part of the Just Deserts in which is
fundamental to it rational in two ways. First, the need to sentence individuals for the crime committed
rather than sociological or behavioural issue that may have been a factor in the offender committing
the crime. Secondly, under the concept of proportionality in which the sentence is proportionate to the
crime. At this point a very subtle difference in sentencing had an impact on the way probation was
viewed because non custodial sentences became recognised as an alternative to prison rather than an
alternative to punishment (Worrall, 2006). Thus, probation was regarded as a punishment in its own
right which is

Falling Down Sequence
The opening sequence in the film Falling Down portrays how everyday activities can take a turn for
the worst. It begins with the main character William Foster stuck in a traffic jam on the highway
caused by construction. The first shot that opens the scene is an extreme close up of Foster s face,
which allows the audience to see him in great detail. We see by his heavy breathing and sweat
dripping down his face that he is in a hot environment. The camera starts to zoom out and go into a
tracking shot, which allows us to see the environment that surrounds him. This is also an establishing
shot. The car directly in front of Foster has a young girl starring out the back window towards him.
There is a school bus two lanes over to his right that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As the scene progresses, you see how each event is causing Foster s temper to rise and his patience to
grow thinner. Foster constantly plays with his AC unit, which is broken, reinforcing that the
temperature outside is hot. Another factor adding to his frustration is the fly stuck in his car. It is
buzzing around him and repeatedly landing on his neck causing him to keep swatting at it. The usage
of quick cuts gives the impression of tension building up for the character throughout the scene. This
gives off the impression that something worse is constantly happening to Foster and he is unable to
escape his uncomfortable reality. The AC breaking, window roller broken, kids screaming, cars
honking and the heat wave itself are all shown so quickly so that the viewer is seeing that everything
is being thrown at Foster at once and that he is starting to feel very claustrophobic and cannot seem to
escape it. When everything hits its peak he decides to quickly get out of his vehicle, which serves as
his escape as the music and sounds subside to a normal level and he is now calmer and decides to just
walk home

Comparing Reverend Parris And Reverend Hale In The...
The Salem Witch Trials caused imperative rulings on the lives of multiple people back in the late
1600s. In The Crucible we learn of several characters causing these crucial events to unfold. Reverend
Parris and Reverend Hale may share similar titles, but do not let the titles deceive about this character
duo. Despite the great likeness between the two in the opening act as the story progresses things
differentiate from the beginning any multiple ways. Reverend Parris and Reverend Hale undoubtedly
have similar and different things between them throughout the story in the aspects of their traits,
motives and goals within the context of the play. The traits between the two characters appear similar

In the beginning they both attempt to expose the witchcraft. In act 3 Hale s motive influences his goal
to give the truth. Opposing this, Parris s goal is also influenced by his motive, to save his name. Then
act 4 comes, despite the huge dramatic court scene before this, both Reverends attempt to get those
found guilty to admit they participated in witchcraft. Hale tells them that life is God s most important
thing, he says God would rather the accused lie then be stubborn with their pride and tell the real truth.
Parris must feel guilt towards the accused persons and therefore he tries getting them to save
themselves by admitting. Obviously Parris s guilt is not enough to get him to override his lies about
the supposed witches, but it is enough to try to get them to admit to the charges and save themselves.
A great quote by Hale in this act is Life, woman, life is God s most precious gift; no principle,
however glorious, may justify the taking of it. This really intensifies the scene and shows Hale s
perspective of

Research Questions, Objectives and Hypothesis
Research objectives are the goals of the research study. Research objectives specify the reason
researchers are conducting research. For example, researchers may want to better understand the
difference in pain scale results among subjects with a diagnosis of moderate traumatic brain injury. In
this case the research objective would cause researchers to take steps to conduct scientific analysis to
determine the variations in pain experienced between a group of individuals without a diagnosis of
TBI and a group of individuals with TBI.
The research objective is to determine if there is a difference in perceived pain levels among patients
with a diagnosis of moderate traumatic brain injury as compared with individuals without a diagnosis

This question guides the course of the research study and guides researchers in setting up the study
effectively and accurately. It is important, throughout the course of research, to ensure that additional
questions do not cloud the initial research question (Farrugia et al. 2010). This requires a focus on the
original research question and the ability of researchers to set aside additional questions that may arise
for later research studies.
A research hypothesis or alternative hypothesis is the hypothesis which researchers want to support
that predicts a significant difference exists between the two groups being compared (Jackson 2011).
For further description, Farrugia et al. describes the research hypothesis a hypothesis developed from
the research question and then the main elements of the study sampling strategy, intervention (if
applicable), comparison and outcome variables are summarized in a form that establishes the basis for
testing, statistical and ultimately clinical significance (Farrugia et al. 2010). The research hypothesis
differs from the null hypothesis and sets the course of the study, the study details and types of
measures used during the study. Jackson provides an example of a research hypothesis being derived
from an initial research objective when a researcher wants to illustrate that children who attend
educationally based after school programs have higher IQ scores compared

Differences And Differences Between Apple And Cadbury
This factor can be critically evaluated. Whereas, Apple mainly relies on factors related to
technological innovations and development, Cadbury s main focus is on the taste of the chocolate.
Thus, Cadbury often faces challenging situations because consumers can deal with the exclusion of
technological advancements to some extent but they never compromise in the case of the taste of food.
But, most experts agree on the fact that these companies have hardly ever taken or implemented a

Linked in with the policy tools available to central government as one of the means of mitigating
accessibility is the ability to mandate accessibility improvements through future franchise

small scale physical interventions at stations to improve mobility (Papworth Trust, 2015).

Abina And The Important Men Summary
Book Review of Abina and the Important Men: A Graphic History History is not static, it is ever
changing and evolving. As time goes on history changes because of new discoveries that alter the way
things have been and shed new light on what had been considered true. In Abina and the Important
Men: A Graphic History historian Trevor Getz introduces a new voice into the story of British
controlled West Africa in the late nineteenth century. Getz and Liz Clarke, an illustrator, bring forth
the story of Abina, a young West African woman, who was wrongfully enslaved and took her case to
court. The book mixes history with graphic art and presents a new and interesting at a part of history
that is not very well known. Overall Getz recreates the story of Abina to show how history is
constantly adapting as more and more stories are being unearthed and heard. Abina and the Important
Men combines graphic illustrations with real history to create a contemporary book that is both
compelling and well informed. The book is split into five different sections; the graphic ... Show more

Through the graphic illustrations Abina story is described in detail. Though the story is interesting and
admirable, it seems to be exaggerated in many ways. In the book Abina is a young woman, probably
around the age of twelve, though this is implied, Getz seems to create a strong young woman who is
sure of herself and of who she is. This is not to say that the story is invalid, but rather that Getz s own
wishes for the woman Abina was carried over into his history. As with most books, the history is
biased. Throughout the first section of the book Getz s own feelings and ideas about the story are
transferred into the story of Abina. This is even more apparent at the end of the graphic narrative
where Getz himself appears, telling the reader that new history can always be found and no voice is
ever too

Banning Books Should Be Banned
Throughout history many books have been banned, for many reasons. I believe that banning books is a
dangerous power to give the government or people in authority. Banning book is not only morally
unjust but also I believe that some of the reasons are also illegal. I will explain my opinion in the
following. Banning books can be a dangerous power because banning restricts authors. Today, people
are praised for individuality and uniqueness, and banning books contradicts that. Many authors write
about things that have happened in their lives or they express their way of living and banning a book
that doesn t fit in with what societies way of life is, is wrong. Society may believe in one thing but not
all people do. I also believe that banning books is a form of bullying. Banning is like telling the
author, you don t fit in with everyone else so you can t have books published. I guess, a authors are
supposed to put their beliefs on the back burner in order to make money from published books. In
history some authors were exiled because they wrote about social corruption. ... Show more content on

that the corruption is kept a secret. Authority uses banning as a way to hide the truth about what s

how to manual for crime and it contained anti white statements . In reality Malcom X was a human s
right activist and has been called the most influential American in recent history. The black

The Evolution Of Humans And Humans
Humans have existed on Earth for approximately 3.4 million years. The oldest known human ancestor
is Lucy, an Australopithecus. Over this extensive period of time, humans have evolved significantly.
Homo Sapiens have grown from 3 to almost 6 feet (average), lost most of the body hair, became
leaner and adapted to walking. Humans have come a long way, from Australopithecus to Homo
sapiens, from living in trees to living in cities. Slowly, through hundreds of thousands of years, we
mutated over and over again, natural selection ensuring that no destructive mutations continue. From
the slow evolution, four distinctive species emerged and died out, each giving way to its descendant:
Homo Habilis, Homo Erectus, Homo Sapiens Neanderthalesis, and Homo sapiens Sapiens.
The Australopithecines were the first to walk upright, or became bipedal, although rather clumsily.
Their walk was unsteady, judging by their bone structure (Figure 1.), and they most likely were
quadrupedal the majority of the time. The Australopithecines had a brain about the size of an orange,
high up cheekbones, and big molars. They were about three feet tall, and had small thumbs.
Australopithecines, while definitely possessing some human characteristics, humans are still much
closer to the chimps. Australopithecines were vegetarians; even if they knew that animals were edible,
they still had no reliable means of killing animals for food. About 2 million years ago, highly evolved
Australopithecines made the

The United States resettles thousands of refugees every year from all over the globe. Once a refugee
goes through an application process and is approved to be resettled in the United States, the official
process of resettlement can begin. How does the United States fund refugee resettlement? Are the
allocated funds being used in an effective way that allow for long term success of individuals who

It is important to note that this study solely focuses on refugees and does not cover other migrant
populations such as asylum seekers. Both refugees and asylees are individuals who are unable or
unwilling to return to their country of origin or nationality because of persecution or a well founded
fear of persecution ( Refugees and Asylees in the United States ). The key difference between the two
populations is location and admission process to the United States. Refugees are screened and vetted

Mary Shelley s Frankenstein And The Exploration Of This...
What does it truly mean to have human consciousness? In Mary Shelley s Frankenstein, the
exploration of this question, acts as an overarching theme throughout the novel. Starting from the
creation of Dr. Frankenstein s monster in chapter V of the story, Frankenstein himself has to come to
terms with the fact that he truly believes he has created a monster, and the creature itself has to begin
to understand why he has this label of a monster, even after he begins to see the humanity within
himself. Though the assumption throughout the entire novel remains that this creation does not have
any sort of humanity, that fact cannot be argued as easily, as his morality, ethics, intelligence and
emotions come to light in chapters XV and XVI; all very traditionally human characteristics. Soon the
only truly unhuman traits about the monster is his unorthodox entrance into the world in a lab and his
discomforting physical features. Whether or not this creation is truly a monster can no longer be easily
discernable and what truly characterizes a human soon comes into question. In our world today we
must address the same conundrum. As artificial intelligence becomes more advanced and continues to
progress into thinking and feeling on their own, what should their treatment involve in our world? If
advanced artificial intelligence fits the criteria of human consciousness, why should they not have the
rights we do as human beings? My essay will first explore the criteria for human

Virginia Vs Massachusetts Bay Colony Essay
After Spanish colonization of the Americas during the late 15th and 16th centuries, many other
European nations sought to expand their presence to the New World. The British were at the forefront
of this expansion, and soon occupied most of the eastern coast of the United States, which was split
into three regions: New England, the Middle Colonies and the Southern Colonies. These areas were
founded upon different principles and ideologies, evident in the settlements of Virginia and
Massachusetts Bay. Although the two were similar in some ways, their economic prospects and
religious perspectives caused them to differ greatly. Jamestown was the first permanent English

However, as both colonies continued to flourish, so did the number of their inhabitants. Virginia was
centered around the tobacco industry and because Massachusetts, as well as many other New England
colonies, was on the coast, it was a bustling sea port. There was competition for work, however, and
Boston was the worst because it was such a big port city, where the merchant system dominated.
Virginia, as mentioned before, had a demand for labor, hence a huge boom in the slavery system. Both
colonies also had rocky beginnings with the Natives in the surrounding areas. Initially, in both
settlements, they were met with hostility because of the foreign peoples on their lands. The Jamestown
settlers had virtually no relationship with them, but with the help of John Smith, and the realization
that the English weren t going to leave, they began to help. When the Puritans landed in
Massachusetts, they believed that the English had the right to all lands in the New World, and that the
Natives were going to have to vacate. However, trade helped to soften the edges of impending conflict
between the two groups, and the colonists were able to trade for valuable furs to send back to England.
Despite being on relatively good terms, there were still wars between the settlers and the Native
Americans. This happened throughout all the colonies, not just Virginia and

Nurse-Led Central Venous Catheter Insertion Essay
Nurse Led Central Venous Catheter Insertion
Central venous catheters (CVC) have various uses for patients in both the inpatient and outpatient
settings. Their purposes range from administration of total parenteral nutrition, to administration of

hemodynamic monitoring (Alexandrou, Spencer, Frost, Parr, Davidson, Hillman, 2009, p. 1485).
Traditionally, insertion of CVCs have been performed by surgeons and internal radiologists. However,

Walker Todd (2013) questioned if nurse led peripherally inserted central catheter (PICC) insertion is
cost effective. The authors of the article support nurse led PICC insertion due to increased patient
satisfaction with nurses over internal radiologists and decreased costs when compared to internal
radiologists. Patients favored nurses over internal radiologists due to their satisfaction with the nurses
explanation of treatment prior to PICC insertion. The study also revealed that nurse led PICC insertion
was more cost effective when compared to internal radiologists, since internal radiologists require the
use of costly operating theatres and X ray screening. Infection rate and dislodge rate were also found
higher in internal radiologists than nurses (Walker Todd, 2013, p. S14).
Walker Todd (2013) identified the cons of nurse led PICC insertion in their article, which included the
higher rate of successful insertions by internal radiologists and the benefits of PICC insertion in
operating theatres rather than at the bedside. The insertion success rate of internal radiologists was
higher at 100%. However, the nurses also demonstrated a high insertion success rate at 93.1% (Walker

Loneliness In Mary Shelley s Frankenstein
Do you ever take a moment to stop and realize what you are looking for in a companion? For instance,
we tend to look for someone to love us for who we are and to raise a family with. It s simply human
nature. Nobody wants to be alone, not even for even a moment. We are scared of the thought of being
alone for the rest of our lives. Mary Shelley s life experiences influenced her writings and her book,
Frankenstein, which conveys the idea of the need for a companion, due to loneliness. Throughout
Shelley s life, she went through pain and loss. Shelley illustrates her difficulties through her character,

Social Networking Furthers Participation and Communication...
Visiting the websites of our official Canadian political parties, some of the first images we recognize
may be a large white F on a blue background, or a small bird with a soft blue T. Although it is hard to
describe an iconic symbol in text, we can vividly picture the logos of the most popular social networks
such as Facebook and Twitter. Twitter particularly has allowed public citizens access to a different side
of the world s leaders that we look to for answers and change. Participation and open communication
in political democracy is promoted by social networking services. Citizens can easily feel informed

Another great example of the political power that Twitter harnesses on a global scale is the democratic

a means to communicate.
Co creators and founders Jack Dorsey, Evan Williams, and Biz Stone launched Twitter.com on March
21, 2010. The first message ever posted was by co creator, Jack Dorsey. Twitter is a free online service
that allows you to send messages to hundreds, or even millions, of your subscribers known as
followers, all at the same time. Your Twitter followers receive an alert each time you send a new
message either on their mobile phone or their computer. These messages, also known as tweets, are
limited to 140 characters maximum allowing updates to be kept short and concise. This social network
service has exploded in popularity since its debut and has more than 23 million unique visitors on
average per month in the United States alone (Site Profile for twitter.com(rank #41)). Anybody can
sign up, acquire a username and discuss any sort of topic that they want to with others. Inserting the @

Risk of understanding the market A successful approach to market orientation involves a systematic
approach to researching consumer behaviour. Missing the mark in this process creates a system
whereby the company uses ineffective data in its approach to reaching out to customers. Working with
wrong data is often worse than working with no data at all. In short, a company that is very small, lack
research resources or has high segmentation between its departments is at a disadvantage when it
comes to establishing marketing orientation.

Double Jeopardy Research Paper
The United States Constitution is the supreme law of the United States. Since the Constitution came
into force in 1789, it has been amended 27 times. The amendments that people are most familiar with
are the 1st 2nd 4th 5th and 6th. The rights stated in these amendments vary from the right to have a
fire arm to the right to a speedy trial in court. The 5th amendment protects citizens from self
incrimination and double jeopardy. Self incrimination is when you expose yourself to a crime or
accusation. The 5th amendment also guarantees due process and prohibits abuse of governmental
authority in legal procedures. Due process is the fair and equal treatment through the judicial system.
Double jeopardy is the second prosecution for the same offense after one has been cleared or
convicted. Or simply put being punished multiple times for the same offense. The 5th amendment
prevents state and federal governments from prosecuting someone for the same crime on more than
one occasion. It also prohibits giving more than one punishment for the same crime. Double jeopardy

By contrast, how were Southern white women characterized? * One of the most standout images of
black women in white slavery America was of a woman who ran entirely off of her sex drive, a
Jezebel. A jezebel was considered to be the complete opposite of a proper white woman. She was
thought to have little to none religious affiliation. A jezebel took no instances to cover her body, and

Because of her expertise in all domestic matters, she was the premier house servant and all others
were her subordinates. This, therefore, is the broad outline of Mammy. She was a woman completely
dedicated to the white family, especially to the children of that family. She was the house servant who
was given complete charge of domestic management. She served also as friend and advisor. She was,
in short, a surrogate mistress and mother, giving into the modern day nanny. The Mammy image is
fully as misleading as that of Jezebel. Both images have enough instances in reality to lend credibility
to stereotypes that would profoundly affect black women. For instance, Black women served in all
capacities, from cook to waiting maid, or seamstress. In very wealthy Southern households there were
many female servants. Children grew very attached to Mammy, as she was seen as their primary
caregiver. Being a Mammy was idyllic for a slave women, for they were given better care and the
work wasn t as tasking. Hard as cleaning, cooking, sewing, dairy work, and child care were, they were
not as physically taxing as a sun up to sun down day in the cropbe it sugar, rice, or cotton. On the
whole, house women could expect to eat better, dress better, and get better medical care than field
women, if only because they were more familiar to the master and mistress, not to mention nearer to
the kitchen and potential handmedowns. Still

Comparing Bossypants And Yes Please By Amy Poehler
I have read many books over the course of this school year. Choosing Yes Please by Amy Poehler was
purely based on the fact that in Bossypants, Poehler was mentioned frequently. I was curious about
how one woman would write about the other. However, after reading the novel, I noticed that there are
plenty of similarities between Poehler s book and some of the other books that I have read for this
class. The construction of essays is reminiscent of Sedaris novels Naked and Me Talk Pretty One Day.
And one can t deny the similarity between Tina Fey s Bossypants and Yes Please, which are both
about the women working through their career in comedy and giving advice to people of the world.
Although her book has many elements in common with other ... Show more content on

Bossypants was written to help a woman be successful in today s world, whereas Yes Please is mainly
and simply career advice for those going into acting or a similar occupation. My favorite quote from
her advice that really gives the reader a sense of her writing style comes from her chapter called treat
your career like a bad boyfriend . Your career won t take care of you. It won t call you back or
introduce you to its parents. Your career will openly flirt with other people while you re around... Your
career will blow you off if you call it too much. It s never going to leave its wife. Your career is
f*cking other people and everyone knows it but you (2272). In the same chapter, Poehler complains
about a person who had the audacity to drop a script in her lap while she was sleeping. She then uses
this story to tell her readers that getting into show business really isn t easy and how you have to work
extremely hard to get anywhere. The reality is that most people become famous or get great jobs after
a very, very long tenure of shoveling sh*t and not because they handed their script to someone on the
street (2226). Something that Yes Please s tone has that Bossypants doesn t is how every so often it
feels as though Poehler is writing to a toddler with the way she seems to baby difficult things. Her
preface is titled writing is hard, and she often uses simplistic terms to describe things to readers. For
example, Amy Poehler

Students Should Be A Preset Learning Position Essay
First, students should be in a preset learning position in which they have greater attention and
openness to the explanations and instructions. After presenting the learning objective, the material
available and expected products, the student participation is requested to do a review about concepts
and procedures, in order to review the steps to solve equations with binomials and polynomials. At
this point, it is important to consider the appropriate momentum (Saphier and Gower, 1997) to keep
lesson in motion by overlapping to maximize time taking attendance while the review is done, and
provisioning to get all the necessary materials to avoid breaks in the process. Students are organized
into working groups (a maximum of four participants) for the purpose of activating cooperation, as
well as the dialogue and discussion about solving equations. Once students are ready to start its work,
the teacher presents a summary of the most important aspects to consider during the process of solving
the equations, circling around the working groups, answering questions and reviewing the progress of
the students. This could be more effective if the instruction is subdivided (Saphier and Gower, 1997)
by socializing and requesting some answers for example, and also by asking how they got to step two
or three before reaching the solution, so that the lesson is flexible and accessible for all students
according to their level of ownership since (Darch Crichlow, 2003) teachers can

Into The Pinecone Essay
Into The Pinecone When one looks at the East Carolina University campus it is not hard to pick which
building has been delegated to the art students. From the outside Jenkins Fine Art Center would spark
anyone s curiosity. It is a building that resembles a geometric pinecone with windows that scale a
portion of the facets. Some of the windows have curtains, but others offer a glimpse into classrooms
and artists studios; where people can be seen striving to develop the next revolutionary art piece. In
front of the building sprawls a grassy field littered haphazardly with large abstract sculptures and
accent trees. The back of the building is somewhat of a visual juxtaposition to the front. Commonly
referred to as the yard, it is a courtyard surrounded by a tall brick wall and an iron gate, making one
question weather it was built to keep the normal people out, or the crazy people in. Entering the
building and walking down the white cinder block hallway, one could easily forget that they are in a
building specifically built for creative minds. The hallway resembles that of any other campus
building aside from the dusty footprints leading the way to the ceramics room, the sounds of a metals
foundry, and occasionally the reached smell of burning acrylic emanating from the distance. Because
the building was built in two parts, with a few years in between, the room numbering is not always
easy to navigate. However, being an art major I have become familiarized with the system

Wizard Of Oz Color Analysis
L. Frank Baum wrote an amazing story using colors to describe each part of Dorothy s journey to Oz.
The color changes throughout the story symbolized setting changes and different stages in her journey.
The colors also represented danger, beauty, power, mood and identified characters and surroundings.
The story begins with the color gray. Dorothy s home, her dog Toto, the farm she lived on with her
Aunt and Uncle, the land and sky are all gray and dull. Once the house had been painted, but the sun
blistered the paint and the rains washed it away, and now the house was as dull and gray as everything
else (Baum, ch.1). Her hardworking relatives were too busy working on the farm to have any fun with
Dorothy. The best part of Dorothy s life is her best friend Toto, who is black and the only thing that isn
t gray in her life. A fast approaching cyclone is about to change Dorothy s life forever.

Essay on A Brief Overview of Walter Mitty
A Brief Overview of Walter Mitty
In the short story, The Secret Life of Walter Mitty by James Thurber, many interesting fantasies occur
in a way which brings the reader into a different world. The story switches back and forth from
delusion to reality, dragging the reader into a life, perhaps similar to their own. In the beginning of this
story, the first paragraph is a fantasy of the main character, Walter Mitty. It describes his life as a
commander of an aircraft. An intense scene is displayed showing what Walter Mitty wishes would be
reality. It is not until the next paragraph that one discovers this reality. His wife then interrupts the
scene, bringing Walter Mitty back into his everyday life, one which is far less exciting to ... Show

The formalistic approach for analyzing this would be most appropriate in order to pick out the
elements such as setting, irony, imagery and metaphorical factors. These are organized in such a way
that the formatting consumes the story. In this tale, the first important element would be the
introduction of the setting. Throughout the story, the author writes across multiple settings because of
these flashbacks that he displays. The first setting would be on an airplane with two introductory
characters; The Commander and Lieutenant Berg . This beginning setting is seen as a guessing game
to begin with as the dialogue becomes the most prominent use in this introduction. Once the setting is
described more clearly as the paragraph moves forward, the reader will grasp an understanding of
where these two characters are. However, soon after the reader s mind may be clarified, the scene is
interrupted with the dialogue of a new character, Mrs. Mitty. Not so fast! You re driving too fast! Said
Mrs. Mitty. What are you driving so fast for? (Thurber 1). This is the first example one has of the
basic structure that this story will set forth. The organization of this story goes from what was
described in the introductory paragraph as a flashback, to the interrupting dialogue of Mrs. Mitty. As
she yells,

Therefore they are only so flexible with the patients, doing their best most times to make sure that

Describe The Quality Of Myself
Every person has their own personality and have their own qualities, behaviour and thinking. When it
comes to me, I would describe myself as a hard working, calm, patient and a friendly person. I would
also describe myself as confident person when it comes to make choices and as a person who learns
from failure. I am a person who works hard and puts all the efforts into any work that I m working on.
I always try to give my best and if I fail in something, I learn from my mistakes and keep trying until I
reach my goal instead of giving up. I m also a very friendly person and can work with other people
around me with great ease. I get along with people very well even if I am meeting the person for the
first time. When it comes to making decisions for myself I can stand up for myself and make a
confident decision for myself. Sometimes it is very difficult to decide something but I don t remember
a time when I gave up because giving up is not my habit. Working in a team is one thing that every
profession has, either if its in a school, college, university or a professional career. Its very important

Mediation Is A Type Of Alternative Dispute Resolution
Mediation is a type of alternative dispute resolution that gives the two disputing parties a third party to
help them discuss and revise their points of conflict. The mediator acknowledges the points of which
the parties are in agreement upon and builds upon those to create a solution between the two parties.
Similarly, arbitration includes a third party that listens to the two disputing parties. However, in
arbitration the arbitrator or the third party gives a final decision. In most cases, the decision given is
binding. This means that it may not be reviewed or overturn by a court except in very limited
circumstances (Repa, n.d.). But some parties have been known to agree to a nonbinding arbitration
meaning that the award given can be rejected and the option of demanding a trial can be used.
However, there are cases where the mediator can make a decision that is binding if both parties do not
agree. In some cases, the mediation can be turned into an arbitration. In the majority of mediation
processes, the goal is to assist the parties with their negotiation, and empower the parties to make their
own decisions (Negotiation, 2014). The mediator themselves has no real authority over the two
parties. Rather than with arbitration, the arbitrator or the panel gives the final closing decision that
cannot be revoked. This decision is constrained by procedural rulings, if the case was in litigation the
rules would be much stricter whereas mediation is more casual

The Degenerate Art Movement
I m going to be explaining 3 glass stores that I ve grow up with; I have many experiences with all of
the stores, some I visit still while some have been just a few visits left for the past. They all are
targeting the same consumers just all on different levels of the same market segment. All of the shops
target people who buy glass whether they be glass pipes, glass marbles, glass sculptures, as well
custom metal jewelry in some. The Degenerate art movement has recently taken major interest from
many; recently a huge spike in new collectors, artists, as well many new galleries and stores. The
Degenerate Art Movement I am talking about is basically the glass blowers out there who are going
against the social norms. They are artists that are taking a medium used for art, and a medium that has
been used to make pipes and bongs and fuse the 2 ideas of art and pipes or water pipes into one. They
are using glass pipes as the way to portray their talent. To some they laugh at the fact, but what they
don t know is that there are water pipes out there selling for anywhere from $1,000 all the way up to
$30,000. To some they are recognized as modern day living Picasso s, and others just dirty hippies

Hopefully in your year off we have traveled to Japan for collecting special weapons and already got
all the amazing weapons from britain. I bet you are still wondering where you will move after your

Or stop texting friends and go stop by mom and dad. Also if you are not already living with dad in
Chicago or Seattle, go visit him before you go off or every once in a while bring him his favorite food.
It will most likely be some plants mashed together or something but you still need to cook him
something. Even if you don t eat it and the same thing goes with mom. Stop by Zaria s house and talk
to her don t leave the city on a bad note or without talking to anyone you know or even care about. If
you burn the wrong bridge it can mess you up for the rest of your life. Also don t forget about that
pretty girlfriend of yours that is going with you to cornell. Oh you thought I forgot I know myself you
re twenty three and out of college you have a girlfriend and you got to be a good man. You can not just
lie to her or drink all the time you have to know how to treat her. Make sure she is a good woman as

Being Human In The Book Of Job And Antigone
What does it mean to be human? To be human means to have as a goal in life to find happiness, but by
suffering through the path. On the other hand, as humans, we tend to have different perspectives and
ideas about the world, but that can lead to a huge discussion and debate between what is considered
right and wrong. For that reason, there are laws that regulates de society, or polis, in order to maintain
peace and justice. Furthermore, there should be always a head or an individual in charge to be the one
who defines justice from injustice and to take responsibility of the polis. However, not always the
individual responsible for the position is capable or has the skills to do it. Being human means that we
are not perfect, and every single one of us will make several mistakes. We are not going to make the
right decisions all the time, and we are going to face temptations that will, probably, drag us to a bad
position that will later bring severe consequences. This two pieces of humanity I am focusing on can
be reflected in The Book of Job and Antigone.
In The Book of Job, we can clearly get the idea of Job suffering because his faith is being tested. At
the beginning, he thought he was a wealthy man and had found happiness. He had a perfect life. As
time passed, Satan and God made a deal to prove Job s loyalty towards God. Along the way, Job
suffers different types of loses; he loses his children, his goods and he suffers physically. Why is light
given to him that is

The Copybook Headings
What is one of Kipling s copybook headings that applies to recent public opinion? The Gods of The
Copybook Headings poem by Rudyard Kipling, is a warning against socialist society. The Gods of the
Copybook Headings. are the ultimate truths of this world, and the Gods of the Marketplace are passing
fads, in the case socialism, that promise wonderful things. These fads try to ignore the Gods of the
Copybook Headings , and attempt to convince people of their ideas. Kipling states that only after
terror and slaughter will people return to the the ultimate truth and away from false promises. With
this in mind we can apply this poem to the modern world. One copybook heading that struck me was
this, In the Carboniferous Epoch

Essay on America Needs Stricter Gun Control Laws
Gun control has become more of a hot topic in recent years. Some believe that there is no need for
additional gun control. On the other hand, we have some that believe that the government can improve
gun laws. Although many believe that gun control will violate their rights, the idea of stricter gun
control laws can help communities. We live in very violent times. There are daily accounts reported in
the media about shootings. We do well to ask, Is there a solution to this growing crisis? Yes! It is call
gun control. The lack of stricter gun control has damaged our communities. How so? Well, in order to
answer that question, first we have to understand what makes up a community. Then we will explore
the history of our gun control laws. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Many people are familiar with the second amendment. However, this amendment has been interpreted
many different ways to fit the wants of this society. It has been used and several times by the Supreme
Court and politicians. But we need to examine the second amendment closely. Many people fail to
mention or read the small print. The second amendment was ratified in 1791. The second amendment
states: A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to
keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed This has been distorted so many ways. This amendment is
also dated. We have to keep in mind that our society has changed since this amendment has been
written. This was made around the time of the Revolutionary War. During that time all males citizens
were required to own guns because they were fighting against the British forces. Virginia has the best
interpretation of the second amendment. Before the Declaration of Independence, Virginia was the
first colony to adopt a state constitution. They stated that the second amendment as follows: A well
regulated Militia, composed of the body of the people trained to arms, is the proper, natural, and safe
defense of a free state Today there is no need to protect ourselves from government take over. We
handed them ourselves our lives our education. They control the way we live and raise our children
among a lot of other things weather we agree with their input or not. There

Kingdom Of Heaven Analysis
The movie Kingdom of Heaven tries to portray the crusades that occurred in the 12th century while at
the same time describing the middle age era. Some of the movie content contains truth of that period
as well as fiction. The movie follows Balian of Ibelin and his journey from being a blacksmith to
defender of Jerusalem. Although the movie has manipulated some of the real events to appeal to a
broader audience, make it more Hollywood like, it does a decent job in portraying the battle over
Jerusalem and some of the circumstances around it.
The church played a significant role during the middle ages. In fact, the church reached the height of
its power in the high middle ages: the 11th, 12th, 13th centuries. It was during this period that the
crusade battles occurred. The movie tries to portray the events that led to one of the battles, the Battle
of Hattin 1187. The idea that God wills war was apparent in both the movie and real life. Crusaders
became consumed with fighting and killing the Muslims which was clear in Guy de Lusignan and
Reynald de Chatilon actions. On the other hand, Baldwin and Balian, in the movie, represented the
crusaders who wanted to maintain a peaceful relationship between the Muslims and the Christians.
Another concept that appears in the movie that is linked to reality is the ideas of becoming a crusader
in order to repent your sins. One of the main reason why Balian became a crusader is to repent his sin,
of killing a priest, and his wife

Change At Green Mountain Resort Change at Green Mountain Resort Green Mountain Resort was a hospitality organization which underwent significant change after its original purpose vanished and the need to become more independent became key to its success (Palmer, Dunford, Akin, 2009). Due to the demographics of the county which Green Mountain Resort was located, the resort management faced a challenged concerning human capital (Palmer, Dunford, Akin, 2009). The new owner and manager, Gunter, identified human capital turnover as a problem, the hospitality industry claimed turnover as a chronic problem, and a newly hire consultant brought up an entirely new perspective to the so called turnover problem (Palmer, Dunford Akin, 2009). We ll first review Gunter s perspective and approach. Initially, Gunter s image of change outcome was that of a controlling director. He identified a potential problem area (turnover) and assumed through intended control, change could be achievable (Palmer, Dunford, Akin, 2009). After further analysis, Gunter also identified limitations from outside factors, such as available human capital resources making him somewhat of a navigator with only partially intended outcome. As a director, Gunter intended to simply fix the turnover problem. As a navigator, he recognized the outside factors. This led him to seek further analysis through further industry research (Palmer, Dunford, Akin, 2009). Hospitality industry research indicated turnover was a chronic problem ... • 4. My Service Advisors Are Not Actively Selling Preventative... If your service advisors are not actively selling preventative maintenance on a continuous basis, they are leaving money on the table that should be easy enough to get. This is especially true if they know customers from dealing with them in the past and have access to their maintenance history and repair records. It s a matter of being proactive with your customers and explaining the real value of staying ahead in the repair and maintenance game. Every time a customer comes to your service department for any reason, you have an opportunity to sell them on preventative maintenance that may not come your way again. Often, customers go to their service department only when they have repair needs they are not sure of, and go to secondary repair and maintenance shops for things like oil changes, brake service or tires. This is usually because they believe these kinds of things to be less expensive in outside shops than they are at their dealership, which is not necessarily so. But, if no one tells them that how will they know? Many people neglect to perform preventive maintenance on their vehicles because they have not been properly informed of the value it brings to them. The may have little or no knowledge of such things and may be intimidated about asking. Certainly, this is an important part of the job of a service advisor. Often, because of the negative light that has been focused in recent years on abusive up selling practices, a service advisors fails to offer ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Mirror, Courage, And The Explorer) Life Lessons (Literary analysis on Mirror, Courage, and Explorer) Anxiety is one of the hardest things to overcome and face up to. People may put others down that they think are lesser than themselves, this is very true for women in 1950s and how men looked down on them. But women finally had a chance coming out of the Great Depression and others looking for new views to look at. Three very famous titles come out by three different women showcases their talents and view through their writing. There is Mirror by Sylvia Plath portraying the opinion of beauty and aging. The second title being Courage by Anne Sexton bringing to attention the struggle every human being had overcome to become an adult/growing up that usually goes unnoticed. Then the third title The Explorer by Gwendolyn Brooks showing the inner voice of a people who are put in new situations. Davis said on an online article, it is bad enough that so many women dealt with sexism for as long as they did . Women in the 1950s struggle trying to get there message out over the men, but compared to earlier years this was the first time they were even given a chance. Mirror, Courage, and The Explorer all display 1 message on prevailing and finding your true self. Certainly, Mirror Challenges a woman who is aging and realizing she is no longer the young beautiful being she once was. Accredited programme requirements were created from the Criminal Justice Act 2003 but in order to understand how this came to be it is significant that the history and political context of the probation service is understood. The Probation of Offenders Act was established in 1907 and under this act the release if offenders into the community under the control of probation officers were made official. The primary aim of the probation was made clear under this act which was to advise, assist and befriend and it continued that way until 1970 s. During this period it transformed into an agency concerned with casework, diagnosis, and rehabilitation rather than the influence of personal character, psychological understandings of human ... However, research carried out in the 1990 s as part of what works movement identified that the most successful sentences were those that attempted to change, not only the offender s behaviour but also their attitude towards their offending (Hollin, 2007). This catalysed the push towards cognitive behavioural approaches and by 1999 one especially important development was the establishment of the Correctional Services Accreditation Panel, which quality assured probation and prison programmes for rehabilitating offending. This technique brought an emphasis of individual responsibility of an offender (Mair,2004). A criticism of this was the lack of attention of sociological factors that can influence criminal behaviour. Responsibility of offenders can be considered to have arose as part of the Just Deserts in which is fundamental to it rational in two ways. First, the need to sentence individuals for the crime committed rather than sociological or behavioural issue that may have been a factor in the offender committing the crime. Secondly, under the concept of proportionality in which the sentence is proportionate to the crime. At this point a very subtle difference in sentencing had an impact on the way probation was viewed because non custodial sentences became recognised as an alternative to prison rather than an alternative to punishment (Worrall, 2006). The first shot that opens the scene is an extreme close up of Foster s face, which allows the audience to see him in great detail. We see by his heavy breathing and sweat dripping down his face that he is in a hot environment. The camera starts to zoom out and go into a tracking shot, which allows us to see the environment that surrounds him. This is also an establishing shot. As the scene progresses, you see how each event is causing Foster s temper to rise and his patience to grow thinner. Foster constantly plays with his AC unit, which is broken, reinforcing that the temperature outside is hot. Another factor adding to his frustration is the fly stuck in his car. It is buzzing around him and repeatedly landing on his neck causing him to keep swatting at it. The usage of quick cuts gives the impression of tension building up for the character throughout the scene. This gives off the impression that something worse is constantly happening to Foster and he is unable to escape his uncomfortable reality. The AC breaking, window roller broken, kids screaming, cars honking and the heat wave itself are all shown so quickly so that the viewer is seeing that everything is being thrown at Foster at once and that he is starting to feel very claustrophobic and cannot seem to escape it. When everything hits its peak he decides to quickly get out of his vehicle, which serves as his escape as the music and sounds subside to a normal level and he is now calmer and decides to just walk home ... Hale tells them that life is God s most important thing, he says God would rather the accused lie then be stubborn with their pride and tell the real truth. Parris must feel guilt towards the accused persons and therefore he tries getting them to save themselves by admitting. Obviously Parris s guilt is not enough to get him to override his lies about the supposed witches, but it is enough to try to get them to admit to the charges and save themselves. It is important, throughout the course of research, to ensure that additional questions do not cloud the initial research question (Farrugia et al. 2010). This requires a focus on the original research question and the ability of researchers to set aside additional questions that may arise for later research studies. A research hypothesis or alternative hypothesis is the hypothesis which researchers want to support that predicts a significant difference exists between the two groups being compared (Jackson 2011). For further description, Farrugia et al. describes the research hypothesis a hypothesis developed from the research question and then the main elements of the study sampling strategy, intervention (if applicable), comparison and outcome variables are summarized in a form that establishes the basis for testing, statistical and ultimately clinical significance (Farrugia et al. 2010). The research hypothesis differs from the null hypothesis and sets the course of the study, the study details and types of measures used during the study. I believe that banning books is a dangerous power to give the government or people in authority. Banning book is not only morally unjust but also I believe that some of the reasons are also illegal. I will explain my opinion in the following. Banning books can be a dangerous power because banning restricts authors. Today, people are praised for individuality and uniqueness, and banning books contradicts that. Many authors write about things that have happened in their lives or they express their way of living and banning a book that doesn t fit in with what societies way of life is, is wrong. Society may believe in one thing but not all people do. I also believe that banning books is a form of bullying. Banning is like telling the author, you don t fit in with everyone else so you can t have books published. Over this extensive period of time, humans have evolved significantly. Homo Sapiens have grown from 3 to almost 6 feet (average), lost most of the body hair, became leaner and adapted to walking. Humans have come a long way, from Australopithecus to Homo sapiens, from living in trees to living in cities. Slowly, through hundreds of thousands of years, we mutated over and over again, natural selection ensuring that no destructive mutations continue. From the slow evolution, four distinctive species emerged and died out, each giving way to its descendant: Homo Habilis, Homo Erectus, Homo Sapiens Neanderthalesis, and Homo sapiens Sapiens. The Australopithecines were the first to walk upright, or became bipedal, although rather clumsily. Their walk was unsteady, judging by their bone structure (Figure 1.), and they most likely were quadrupedal the majority of the time. The Australopithecines had a brain about the size of an orange, high up cheekbones, and big molars. They were about three feet tall, and had small thumbs. • 17. Mary Shelley s Frankenstein And The Exploration Of This... What does it truly mean to have human consciousness? In Mary Shelley s Frankenstein, the exploration of this question, acts as an overarching theme throughout the novel. Starting from the creation of Dr. Frankenstein s monster in chapter V of the story, Frankenstein himself has to come to terms with the fact that he truly believes he has created a monster, and the creature itself has to begin to understand why he has this label of a monster, even after he begins to see the humanity within himself. Though the assumption throughout the entire novel remains that this creation does not have any sort of humanity, that fact cannot be argued as easily, as his morality, ethics, intelligence and emotions come to light in chapters XV and XVI; all very traditionally human characteristics. Soon the only truly unhuman traits about the monster is his unorthodox entrance into the world in a lab and his discomforting physical features. Whether or not this creation is truly a monster can no longer be easily discernable and what truly characterizes a human soon comes into question. In our world today we must address the same conundrum. As artificial intelligence becomes more advanced and continues to progress into thinking and feeling on their own, what should their treatment involve in our world? If advanced artificial intelligence fits the criteria of human consciousness, why should they not have the rights we do as human beings? My essay will first explore the criteria for human ... Virginia, as mentioned before, had a demand for labor, hence a huge boom in the slavery system. Both colonies also had rocky beginnings with the Natives in the surrounding areas. Initially, in both settlements, they were met with hostility because of the foreign peoples on their lands. The Jamestown settlers had virtually no relationship with them, but with the help of John Smith, and the realization that the English weren t going to leave, they began to help. When the Puritans landed in Massachusetts, they believed that the English had the right to all lands in the New World, and that the Natives were going to have to vacate. Self incrimination is when you expose yourself to a crime or accusation. The 5th amendment also guarantees due process and prohibits abuse of governmental authority in legal procedures. Due process is the fair and equal treatment through the judicial system. Double jeopardy is the second prosecution for the same offense after one has been cleared or convicted. Or simply put being punished multiple times for the same offense. The 5th amendment prevents state and federal governments from prosecuting someone for the same crime on more than one occasion. It also prohibits giving more than one punishment for the same crime. Double jeopardy is considered is considered one of the oldest legal concepts. • 28. African American Studies Victoria Braden Jasmine Sullivan AAAS 2000 23 April 14 1.) In chapter 1, Black women slaves were defined as either a jezebel or mammy . In detail define the characteristics of a jezebel and mammy . Why were black women defined in these two extreme ways? By contrast, how were Southern white women characterized? * One of the most standout images of black women in white slavery America was of a woman who ran entirely off of her sex drive, a Jezebel. A jezebel was considered to be the complete opposite of a proper white woman. She was thought to have little to none religious affiliation. A jezebel took no instances to cover her body, and showed no signs of prudery. The idea that black women were over sexualized first ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Because of her expertise in all domestic matters, she was the premier house servant and all others were her subordinates. This, therefore, is the broad outline of Mammy. She was a woman completely dedicated to the white family, especially to the children of that family. She was the house servant who was given complete charge of domestic management. She served also as friend and advisor. She was, in short, a surrogate mistress and mother, giving into the modern day nanny. The Mammy image is fully as misleading as that of Jezebel. Both images have enough instances in reality to lend credibility to stereotypes that would profoundly affect black women. For instance, Black women served in all capacities, from cook to waiting maid, or seamstress. In very wealthy Southern households there were many female servants. Children grew very attached to Mammy, as she was seen as their primary caregiver. Being a Mammy was idyllic for a slave women, for they were given better care and the work wasn t as tasking. Hard as cleaning, cooking, sewing, dairy work, and child care were, they were not as physically taxing as a sun up to sun down day in the cropbe it sugar, rice, or cotton. On the whole, house women could expect to eat better, dress better, and get better medical care than field women, if only because they were more familiar to the master and mistress, not to mention nearer to the kitchen and potential handmedowns. • 29. Comparing Bossypants And Yes Please By Amy Poehler I have read many books over the course of this school year. Choosing Yes Please by Amy Poehler was purely based on the fact that in Bossypants, Poehler was mentioned frequently. I was curious about how one woman would write about the other. However, after reading the novel, I noticed that there are plenty of similarities between Poehler s book and some of the other books that I have read for this class. The construction of essays is reminiscent of Sedaris novels Naked and Me Talk Pretty One Day. And one can t deny the similarity between Tina Fey s Bossypants and Yes Please, which are both about the women working through their career in comedy and giving advice to people of the world. Although her book has many elements in common with other ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Bossypants was written to help a woman be successful in today s world, whereas Yes Please is mainly and simply career advice for those going into acting or a similar occupation. My favorite quote from her advice that really gives the reader a sense of her writing style comes from her chapter called treat your career like a bad boyfriend . Your career won t take care of you. It won t call you back or introduce you to its parents. Your career will openly flirt with other people while you re around... Your career will blow you off if you call it too much. It s never going to leave its wife. Your career is f*cking other people and everyone knows it but you (2272). In the same chapter, Poehler complains about a person who had the audacity to drop a script in her lap while she was sleeping. She then uses this story to tell her readers that getting into show business really isn t easy and how you have to work extremely hard to get anywhere. The reality is that most people become famous or get great jobs after a very, very long tenure of shoveling sh*t and not because they handed their script to someone on the street (2226). Something that Yes Please s tone has that Bossypants doesn t is how every so often it feels as though Poehler is writing to a toddler with the way she seems to baby difficult things. Her preface is titled writing is hard, and she often uses simplistic terms to describe things to readers. For example, Amy Poehler ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 30. Students Should Be A Preset Learning Position Essay First, students should be in a preset learning position in which they have greater attention and openness to the explanations and instructions. After presenting the learning objective, the material available and expected products, the student participation is requested to do a review about concepts and procedures, in order to review the steps to solve equations with binomials and polynomials. At this point, it is important to consider the appropriate momentum (Saphier and Gower, 1997) to keep lesson in motion by overlapping to maximize time taking attendance while the review is done, and provisioning to get all the necessary materials to avoid breaks in the process. Students are organized into working groups (a maximum of four participants) for the purpose of activating cooperation, as well as the dialogue and discussion about solving equations. Once students are ready to start its work, the teacher presents a summary of the most important aspects to consider during the process of solving the equations, circling around the working groups, answering questions and reviewing the progress of the students. This could be more effective if the instruction is subdivided (Saphier and Gower, 1997) by socializing and requesting some answers for example, and also by asking how they got to step two or three before reaching the solution, so that the lesson is flexible and accessible for all students according to their level of ownership since (Darch Crichlow, 2003) teachers can ... • 31. Into The Pinecone Essay Into The Pinecone When one looks at the East Carolina University campus it is not hard to pick which building has been delegated to the art students. From the outside Jenkins Fine Art Center would spark anyone s curiosity. It is a building that resembles a geometric pinecone with windows that scale a portion of the facets. Some of the windows have curtains, but others offer a glimpse into classrooms and artists studios; where people can be seen striving to develop the next revolutionary art piece. In front of the building sprawls a grassy field littered haphazardly with large abstract sculptures and accent trees. The back of the building is somewhat of a visual juxtaposition to the front. Commonly referred to as the yard, it is a courtyard surrounded by a tall brick wall and an iron gate, making one question weather it was built to keep the normal people out, or the crazy people in. Entering the building and walking down the white cinder block hallway, one could easily forget that they are in a building specifically built for creative minds. The hallway resembles that of any other campus building aside from the dusty footprints leading the way to the ceramics room, the sounds of a metals foundry, and occasionally the reached smell of burning acrylic emanating from the distance. Because the building was built in two parts, with a few years in between, the room numbering is not always easy to navigate. However, being an art major I have become familiarized with the system ... Dorothy s home, her dog Toto, the farm she lived on with her Aunt and Uncle, the land and sky are all gray and dull. Once the house had been painted, but the sun blistered the paint and the rains washed it away, and now the house was as dull and gray as everything else (Baum, ch.1). The story switches back and forth from delusion to reality, dragging the reader into a life, perhaps similar to their own. In the beginning of this story, the first paragraph is a fantasy of the main character, Walter Mitty. It describes his life as a commander of an aircraft. These are organized in such a way that the formatting consumes the story. In this tale, the first important element would be the introduction of the setting. Throughout the story, the author writes across multiple settings because of these flashbacks that he displays. The first setting would be on an airplane with two introductory characters; The Commander and Lieutenant Berg . This beginning setting is seen as a guessing game to begin with as the dialogue becomes the most prominent use in this introduction. Once the setting is described more clearly as the paragraph moves forward, the reader will grasp an understanding of where these two characters are. However, soon after the reader s mind may be clarified, the scene is interrupted with the dialogue of a new character, Mrs. Mitty. Not so fast! You re driving too fast! Said Mrs. Mitty. What are you driving so fast for? (Thurber 1). This is the first example one has of the basic structure that this story will set forth. • 38. Mediation Is A Type Of Alternative Dispute Resolution Mediation is a type of alternative dispute resolution that gives the two disputing parties a third party to help them discuss and revise their points of conflict. The mediator acknowledges the points of which the parties are in agreement upon and builds upon those to create a solution between the two parties. Similarly, arbitration includes a third party that listens to the two disputing parties. However, in arbitration the arbitrator or the third party gives a final decision. In most cases, the decision given is binding. This means that it may not be reviewed or overturn by a court except in very limited circumstances (Repa, n.d.). But some parties have been known to agree to a nonbinding arbitration meaning that the award given can be rejected and the option of demanding a trial can be used. However, there are cases where the mediator can make a decision that is binding if both parties do not agree. In some cases, the mediation can be turned into an arbitration. In the majority of mediation processes, the goal is to assist the parties with their negotiation, and empower the parties to make their own decisions (Negotiation, 2014). The mediator themselves has no real authority over the two parties. Rather than with arbitration, the arbitrator or the panel gives the final closing decision that cannot be revoked. This decision is constrained by procedural rulings, if the case was in litigation the rules would be much stricter whereas mediation is more casual ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 42. Being Human In The Book Of Job And Antigone What does it mean to be human? To be human means to have as a goal in life to find happiness, but by suffering through the path. On the other hand, as humans, we tend to have different perspectives and ideas about the world, but that can lead to a huge discussion and debate between what is considered right and wrong. For that reason, there are laws that regulates de society, or polis, in order to maintain peace and justice. Furthermore, there should be always a head or an individual in charge to be the one who defines justice from injustice and to take responsibility of the polis. However, not always the individual responsible for the position is capable or has the skills to do it. Being human means that we are not perfect, and every single one of us will make several mistakes. We are not going to make the right decisions all the time, and we are going to face temptations that will, probably, drag us to a bad position that will later bring severe consequences. This two pieces of humanity I am focusing on can be reflected in The Book of Job and Antigone. In The Book of Job, we can clearly get the idea of Job suffering because his faith is being tested. At the beginning, he thought he was a wealthy man and had found happiness. He had a perfect life. As time passed, Satan and God made a deal to prove Job s loyalty towards God. • 45. Kingdom Of Heaven Analysis The movie Kingdom of Heaven tries to portray the crusades that occurred in the 12th century while at the same time describing the middle age era. Some of the movie content contains truth of that period as well as fiction. The movie follows Balian of Ibelin and his journey from being a blacksmith to defender of Jerusalem. Although the movie has manipulated some of the real events to appeal to a broader audience, make it more Hollywood like, it does a decent job in portraying the battle over Jerusalem and some of the circumstances around it. The church played a significant role during the middle ages. In fact, the church reached the height of its power in the high middle ages: the 11th, 12th, 13th centuries. It was during this period that the crusade battles occurred. The movie tries to portray the events that led to one of the battles, the Battle of Hattin 1187. The idea that God wills war was apparent in both the movie and real life. Crusaders became consumed with fighting and killing the Muslims which was clear in Guy de Lusignan and Reynald de Chatilon actions. On the other hand, Baldwin and Balian, in the movie, represented the crusaders who wanted to maintain a peaceful relationship between the Muslims and the Christians. Another concept that appears in the movie that is linked to reality is the ideas of becoming a crusader in order to repent your sins. One of the main reason why Balian became a crusader is to repent his sin, of killing a priest, and his wife ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
