4. CLEVELAND PARK STREETSCAPE AND DRAINAGE IMPROVEMENT

Project Goals:
• Address street flooding near Metro Station by
improving the drainage system, modifying the
drainage structures, (permeable pavement, LID,
temporary retention pipe, etc.)
• Improve traffic and pedestrian safety, access,
visibility by improving the streetscape along the
Connecticut Avenue corridor, public realm
enhancements, installing street furnishings, signage
• Incorporate green infrastructure by planting trees,
introducing new LID/Bio-retention and permeable
paving

16th STREET NW BRIDGE REHABILITATION

6. Project Scope:
• Implement multi-modal improvements
between 2nd Street and 14th Street to
improve pedestrian and overall corridor
safety, add bicycle lanes, incorporate a
‘road diet’ to slow traffic down, while
improving bus operation, traffic signal
operations, lighting and the ‘streetscape’
elements in the community.

7. Project Scope:
• Rehabilitation of bridges 1103, 1104 & 1109. They
are part of the Southeast Freeway (I-695 corridor).
Bridges 1103 & 1104 overpass the South Capital St
SE, and Bridge 1109 overpasses New Jersey Ave SE.
The bridges are broken down into different Ramps

• Support District’s Vision Zero Initiatives to eliminate all
traffic fatalities and serious injuries in the corridor

MARTIN LUTHER KING JR. AVENUE, SE REVITALIZATION

9. Goals:
• Bridges rehabilitation to eliminate deficiencies, and
enhance service life of bridge structure
• Maintain traffic during construction without major
delays and impacts to neighborhoods
• Increase safety for traveling public
Project Scope:
• Rehabilitation of bridge bearings, abutment backwalls,
and deck overlay
• Widen bridge sidewalks and improve pedestrian
connection to the bridge through Anacostia Riverwalk

• Replace existing overhead sign support structures and
panels
• Temporary roadway and drainage work
• Miscellaneous concrete and structural steel repairs
Project Status:
• Design is complete
• Construction is anticipated to start in Fall 2018.
