• About the Project:
‒ This project, in cooperation with Fairfax County,
will provide an important new link to Route 123
over the Capital Beltway (I-495) for commuters and
visitors to Tysons. The link will improve local traffic
and access for drivers, as well as provide a vital
option for area bicyclists and pedestrians.

• The half-mile project includes new roadway from the
interchange of the I-495 Express Lanes and Jones
Branch Drive to Scotts Crossing Road. Improvements
will also be made along the access road from Jones
Branch Drive to the Express Lanes, as well as along
Scotts Crossing Road.

• Project features include:
‒ Two travel lanes and on-street bike lanes in each
direction
‒ Three bridges over the I-495 Express and general-
purpose lanes
‒ Eight- to 12-foot-wide lighted sidewalks,
landscaping and other streetscape amenities
‒ A wide, raised median to accommodate future
transit

• By providing an alternate route across the Beltway
and linking the Tysons East and Central areas, the
Connector is expected to relieve traffic along Route
123, at the I-495 interchange, and at other congested
intersections. The road is expected to carry more
than 32,000 vehicles per day by 2040.
• The project is being completed through a
combination of federal, state and county funds. It is
Fairfax County led design and development, while
VDOT is administering construction.

• Interim Milestone: December 12, 2018

1. Retain traffic on existing Capital Beltway express
ramps JBNEW, JBEWN, JBSEW and JBWES.
2. Remove raised concrete median and retain traffic on
existing Scotts Crossing Road.
3. Remove existing retaining wall and rough grade
eastbound side of Route 8102 (approximately, Sta.
18+25 to Sta. 23+50). Construct new MSE retaining
wall.

of B628 including RW003, RW004 and RW004A.
RW001, excavate and rough grade for abutment A of

6. Remove existing soundwall and construct SW011
and associated grading including channel.

9. Construct new entrance to Gates of Mclean (Spring
Gate Drive) while maintaining traffic through the
existing entrance. Mill, wedge and overlay parking
along baseline GMCL-C. Construct retaining wall
RW010.

4. Mill and overlay portions of Capital Beltway express
ramps JBWES, JBSEW, JBNEW and JBEWN.
5. Remove pavement from approximately Sta. 33+75 to
Sta. 37+25 along RW006/SW012 and fill. Construct
new sidewalk along the Gates of McLean fence in the
same area.
6. Construct Capital One Service Road. Coordinate with
contractor of adjacent project to determine if the
portion of the road prior to this project's begin
construction (18+80) will be completed by the end of
this project.

7. Construct curb gutter, curb ramps and sidewalk
along Spring Gate Drive from approximately Sta.
50+60 LT to 50+90 LT.
8. Construct curb ramps, associated sidewalk, and curb
gutter on Colshire Drive from approximately Sta.
200+50 to Sta. 202+00.
9. Install and furnish final pavement markings
(seasonally dependent).
10.Install/plant all final landscaping features (seasonally
dependent).

coordinated with the Express Lanes Operations Center at
least five (5) business days in advance using their
“Authorization to Work” form (available from the Express
Lanes Operations Center at 571-419-6046). Complete
road closures on the 495 Express Lanes will only be
permitted for 30 minutes or less in accordance with the
following table.
