1. A medical librarian created a customized knowledge center using Google tools like iGoogle, calendars, bookmarks, and search boxes to facilitate online collaboration for a nurse practitioner staff development committee that previously collaborated in person. 2. The objectives were to provide centralized access to commonly used resources, enable online collaboration for projects, and create an inexpensive and easy to use tool. 3. While the participants used the survey tool after launch, usage disappeared after the librarian left the institution, showing the need for active librarian participation to maximize the interface's benefits.

Research provides needed evidence to advocate for strong laws and programs to combat gender-based violence. Yet research capacity is lagging in many parts of the world including Africa. In response, ICRW, the Gender-based Violence Prevention Network and the South African Medical Research Council undertook a capacity building program that paired NGOs with research institutions in the region. Our experience shows that partnering violence prevention organizations with researchers has strengthened the formers’ skills to carry out relevant action research, and directed evidence into the hands of those best positioned to use it, namely activists and program implementers.

The first of a series of state-of-the-art reviews commissioned to mark Disasters’ 21st anniversary, this paper considers key publications on public health aspects of natural disasters, refugee emergencies and complex humanitarian disasters over the past twenty-odd years. The literature is reviewed and important signposts highlighted showing how the field has developed. This expanding body of epidemiological research has provided a basis for increasingly effective prevention and intervention strategies.

War has devastating implications for families, communities, cultures, economies, and state infrastructure. Similarly, the last decade has seen an increase in the number of attacks against health workers in conflict zones and unstable environments. Unfortunately, these attacks have grave consequences for local populations which often rely on foreign aid programs for their health and well-being. As such, this paper will examine why aid-workers have increasingly been targeted for abductions, ambushes, assassinations, and various forms of intimidation. Furthermore, examples of terminated health programs, as well as populations served by current medical and humanitarian interventions, will be provided to impart a sense of magnitude and importance of health programs to the reader. Lastly, suggestions will be presented which could serve to minimize aid-workers’ risk and exposure to acts of violence in the field.

Google Docs is a well known example, but there are many other variations toGoogle Docs. 2. Profiles: We use to call them Employee Directories and had deep discussions about what information to capture in a user\'s profile. But profiles are much more today, enabling us to share details about ourselves, our interests, our knowledge and expertise, and much more. 3. Blogs and Wikis: Pretty standard stuff these days really. Blogs let us share information and knowledge and allow people to respond via comments, tagging and rating. Wikis allow multiple people to contribute to a subject. 4. Microblogging: Twitter and Yammer are the most notable microbloggingtechnologies, but there are other vendors like SocialText, NewsGatorand others who focus strongly on this capability. Sometimes also called an activity feed, you can let people know what you are working on (manually or via automation), discuss documents, projects, etc, and at the same time ask for help to the general community. 5. Communities: These are groupings of capabilities like those listed above set up for projects, communities of interest or practices, or around other topics and themes. There are many different types of communities, open or private, internal, external, mixed. 6. Calendars: Shared calendars allow you to have one calendar for all those involved in a project. 7. Idea Management: Also known as innovation management. These tools provide the ability for employees to participate in generating ideas for things like products and services, ways to improve existing products and services, business processes, etc.. 8. Social Networks: How many times have you heard \"Facebook for the enterprise\". Social Networks enable employees to work together and play together. A prime example:Salesforce.com\'s Chatter. 9. Social Knowledge Networks: SKNs are tools that provide a place to share and find the organization\'s knowledge, pulling content from across the organization into a single location to share and collaboration. SKNs are specialized communities. 10. Web Conferencing: No more need to travel with the availability of numerous web conferencing tools. 11. User generated content: There are any number of tools to allow users to submit content, both moderated or un-moderated. .

http://sandymillin.wordpress.com/iateflwebinar2024 Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error. Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials. This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.

A Strategic Approach: GenAI in Education

Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction. This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.
