Strengthening the supervisory role of the ward sister or team leader ensures that sufficient priority and

to ensure that nursing is able to sustain quality care and remain responsive to individuals needs on a
daily basis (Box 1).
Case study
Nursing leadership and responsiveness is demonstrated when opportunities for the development of
new services to meet the changing needs of service users are identified. This often involves
developing new skills in the nursing team or taking on roles previously undertaken by other team
members. A good example of this is the work undertaken by Royal Devon and Exeter NHS
Foundation Trust ophthalmic nurse practitioner Brian Kingett. Age related macular degeneration
(AMD) affects large numbers of older people in the developed world and is the most common cause
of blindness in people over the age of 55 years (Vendula and Krzystolik 2008). Wet AMD occurs when
blood vessels grow between the retinal pigment epithelial cells and the photoreceptor cells in the
centre of the retina to form a choroidal neovascular membrane. These immature

Multicultural Education Chapter 15 Summary
Chapter fifteen of Multicultural Education is divided into three major sections. These three sections
include recruitment and barriers, recruitment recommendations, and retention issues/difficulties. A
large part of this chapter focuses on the underrepresentation of culturally diverse students in gifted and
advance placement programs. When taking a look at gifted education programs, there is an extreme
underrepresentation of African Americans, Hispanic Americans, and Native Americans in these
programs. Gifted education programs are a need not just a privilege and should not be used as a simple
form of segregation between races or cultures.
In 1954, the United States Supreme Court ruled deliberate school segregation to be unconstitutional. ...

Such supports may include teaching of study skills, test taking skills, time management skills, and
organizational skills. Whether or not a student is gifted is often associated with their achievement and
productivity. It used to be believed that there was no such thing as a gifted underachiever, but over
time that has proven to be false. Gifted students may tend to underachieve when they are unmotivated
or uninterested in school, are procrastinators, do not complete assignments or only do enough to get
by. Gifted underachievers are not as likely to receive or be referred for gifted education or advanced
placement classes. This often occurs due to testing being warped and using a single mode of
assessment, such as focusing only on IQ scores, Rather than using a single mode of assessment,
testing should include both intelligence and achievement data in order to fully determine if a student is
both gifted and achieving, gifted and underachieving, or gifted but weak when it comes to academic or
social skills. This would help significantly when it comes to determining placement decisions for
students as well as help those gifted underachievers become achievers by teaching them study and
language skills that they may currently be lacking.
Recruitment for gifted education programs need to develop a more well rounded philosophy,
significant changes in the deciding

The Middle East On Social Media
The term don t judge a book by it s cover has so much meaning to it and since the dawn of time our
world as we know it is taken by labels that we live by today. My ethnicity alone has these very labels
that by nature have grown on one another. When one would talk about the middle east on social media
the first thing that comes to mind is the war and countless bloodshed that spilled and the impact it had
on many lives. All the stories distributed by social media display attacks and war in the middle east,
portray all middle easterners to be muslim, and only tell the tale of terrorists to the public.
Social media is only showing people, very little stories about Middle Easterners. One of those
shameful stories is the tale of war, violence, and suffering. A few misconceptions people have is that
all Middle Eastern s are dangerous. This is due to social media and the tales being spread. Anne
Barnard says in her article for The New York Times, Lebanon has weathered waves of political
assassinations, street skirmishes and wars; Israeli airstrikes leveled whole apartment blocks in 2006 .
Anne Barnard may not realize it, but she is distributing one story about the Lebanon, my home
country. Which, is really a beautiful country with many small towns and tight communities. Yes, there
is the story of war and violence, but there is also a story of family and culture. No one hears about the
positive in the Middle East. The ungraceful representation of the Middle East is embarrassing

Child Protection Within The Wider Concept Of Safeguarding...
1.2 Explain child protection within the wider concept of safeguarding children and young people.
The definition of child protection is the process of protecting individual children identified as either
suffering, or likely to suffer, significant harm because of abuse or neglect. The term child protection is
increasingly being replaced by safeguarding . Safeguarding has been described as; a broader definition
of the range of ways in which adults and professionals working with children need to act when dealing
with child protection issues (Ref: www.education.gov.uk/) Safeguarding refers to the prevention of
harm to children and child protection is used more when dealing with policies and procedures
following an event of suspected harm. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
All professionals working with children/young people i.e. teaching assistants, volunteers, outside

Adults working with children should also be fully trained in safeguarding children by a nominated

understanding of the signs and indicators of abuse or neglect, this training is recapped every year.
For child protection to work effectively we must ensure we have good inter relationships with other
agencies and good co operation from professionals that are competent in responding to child

that concerns his/her welfare; We must make a record of exactly what the child has said in their words
and report it to a safeguarding officer, ensuring that these records are kept confidential and separated
from pupil s records. Guidance on confidentiality and sharing; the head teacher or safeguarding officer

other agencies. If a child or young person does

Neuroplasticity and Justice
Justice is often thought of in nebulous terms. As such, it is often viewed through a philosophical lens.
Indeed, justice has been examined by prominent philosophers such as John Rawls and Friedrich
Hayek. Often regarded as a soft science, the idea of justice finds itself the subject of a theoretical
framework rather than of scientific study. Despite this theoretical view, much of the theory
surrounding justice seeks to determine the causes for a given type of behavior. These theories discuss
which penological methods work to correct these behaviors. However, the theory that one can modify
his or her brain in order to create new behaviors exists within the scientific biological/psychological
realm. By contrast, there are those ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is concurrent with the logical, conscious reasoning of the C system that overrides the X system s
prototypes in order to closely analyze a new situation and adapt accordingly. Thus, fairness (justice) is
an extension of cognitive behavioral regulation. Akin to the sense of reparation that Jackman (2012)
discusses when one applies the concept of restorative justice, the concept of neuroplasticity also seeks
a sense of reparation, albeit in a more literal way. Consistent with the idea of learning and the brain s
interaction with the environment, neuroplasticity is the idea that the human brain can change and
grow, that it can modify itself to compensate for weak spots and expand limits (Cockrell, 2007). For
example, it was once thought that neuron production slows down exponentially in adulthood, but
research reveals that this is not the case. Research has found that the brains of aging cancer patients
were still able to produce new neurons (Cockrell, 2007). The human brain is an extremely complex
organ. Inside the average human brain, there are 200 billion neurons. These neurons allow for trillions
of connections (Arrowsmith, 2013). Arrowsmith (2013) discussed Mark Rosenshwag, a neuroscientist
who conducted an experiment with rats. Rosenswag placed the rats in a stimulating environment and
found that rats were better learners because of the stimulation. More importantly, he noted that the
brains of the rats being studied changed

The Issue Of Using Traditional Ways For Running The...
The Issue of Using Traditional Ways for Running the Pharmaceutical Industry
From rising customer expectations, to poor methods of research and development, there are many
reasons to modernize the current business model of the pharmaceutical industry. The major issue is the
fact that experts rely on traditional methods regarding management and a business model. The
pharmaceutical industry is now facing the reality that other industries have previously dealt with,
where companies have been forced to remodel themselves. This is not an easy task, as the landscape
of the cultural industry has to fundamentally change. This in turns affects each level and individual in
the corporation. There are many variations as to why modifications are ... Show more content on

It will explore methods that can be practiced to improve research and development and innovate
business models in established and emerging marketplaces. Which can in turn be used to lessen the
forfeiture of earnings on account of patent expiration and absence of prominent medicines. Johnson
and Johnson, Novartis and Abbott are just a few companies that are modernizing their facilities,
devices and diagnostics. They are transforming their actions outside the traditional business model.
Some companies are proceeding in the direction of the Emerging Markets who have not fully
developed their potential such as, Astra Zeneca and GlaxoSmithKline (GSK). These companies
mentioned are recognizing that if they do not initiate a response to these problems, they could develop
into a permanent setback. Lack of scientific productivity and innovation is one of the main issues the
pharmaceutical industry is suffering from. Researchers and developers are under serious scrutiny and
extreme safety standards by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). This results in little room to
innovate. There are fewer products being permitted and scientists are thus failing to reach potential in
delivering care for patients and their own commercial profits. Companies do not take risks and
therefore have bad portfolios. Pharmaceutical industries need to allocate the expense and the risks of
backing research and development. Innovation is a must for developing pharmaceutical companies,

restriction still present for them. The LGBTQ (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer)
community feels the restrictions they have against them, while some of the straight community feels
they are all treated as equals and that LGBTQ people should not have laws that are directly in their

Private sectors should accommodate those of the LGBTQ community to the best of their ability.
Businesses owners should not be allowed to turn down a resume just because of the sexual orientation
of the applicant, but instead turn them down because of qualification issues. Discriminating against a
LGBTQ citizen is comparable to discriminating against a citizen of a different race; it is unacceptable
in the United States. The SOGI laws are not perfect but they are a start to what the country needs to
achieve in order for everyone to truly be equal. SOGI laws would prohibit schools, charities, and
businesses form using their person views to deny people based off of their sexual orientation, which in
turn restrict the first amendment rights. The first amendment rights is specific cases should be

makes a better argument by supplying more data in its article as well as more information than The
Institute for Policy Studies, which supplied some information on the topic of rights for all sexual
orientations. Each think tank had political bias toward their side of the political spectrum. The Institute
for Policy Studies is liberal and had the average liberal viewpoints while The Heritage Foundation is
conservative and had the average viewpoints conservatives would have. How SOGI laws would help

The Ways Of Protecting Walls
Walls
These are the part of any structure which bears the ultimate load both from the windward and leeward
side. The whole structure collapses if they fail, therefore proper care should be taken while
constructing them.
The ways of protecting walls are:
Reinforcing the walls with the help of concrete bands and vertical reinforcing bars and lateral ties.
For improving the lateral load resistance of long walls, buttresses should be provided.
Using Ferro cement plating around the exterior perimeter if horizontal bands could not be provided.
Undesirable openings near the corner to be closed so as to improve the strength of the cross walls.
The individual structures like roof and foundation should be properly braced and anchored with the
walls.
Planning of Settlements
Row planning should be avoided as it focuses the maximum wind pressure on the windward side of
the outermost settlement. Zigzag planning of the trees should be done so that they can divert the wind
pressure. Building houses in valleys protects them from high velocity winds. In areas of high velocity
winds houses should be built on stilts or artificial raised earth mounds as shown in the figure.
Symmetric design of houses protects them from unequal application of high intensity pressure.

of occurrence. The results of these analyses are usually presented in the

Theme Of Conflict In Go Set A Watchman
Although Harper Lee uses other literary elements, she is notorious for using conflicts in her novels.
One great example of hers would be To Kill a Mockingbird. The main conflict within the novel is
finding justice for a negro who was accused of raping a white woman. The prequel to To Kill a
Mockingbird, Go Set a Watchman, also showcases conflicts important to the storyline. Throughout the
novel, Go Set a Watchman, Harper Lee uses a variety of different types of conflict which contributes
to the theme that no matter how societal views are changing, one should not lose their personal values
and individual voice. The first area of conflict Harper Lee portrays is character versus society. She

conflict in the novel is character versus self. Jean Louise is a character who does not even have her

The Progressive Era Of The United States
George F. Will once said, The United States is a successful nation that is constantly susceptible to
melancholy because things are not perfect. During the 1880 s to the 1920 s this statement seemed to be
true about America but this sadness was not seen from the outside. The Progressive Era brought out
these issues and made everyone aware of them. This era was a period in the United States that
consisted of social activism and political reforms. The importance of this era was the passing of labor
laws, anti trust laws, unionization for important industries and the introduction of four new
amendments in the constitution.
Children have been servants throughout human history. Employers were taking advantage of children
by making them work very long days and work in dangerous conditions. Children laborers also lacked
an education due to the long hours they worked. Children worked to help support families but yet got
very little pay. Reformers and labor organizers wanted to restrict children labor and improve the
working conditions. Most Americans would never agree, they wanted adults to run the work world and
rather give any available job to an adult than a child. The education reformers battled the vast majority
of America because of their opinions on child education. (I. Yellowitz) After a while, primary school
education was a necessity. This education would improve their self fulfillment and the advancement of
the United States. The Fair Labor Standards Act was designed

Comparing Plato And Beauty By Hofstadter And Kuhns
Talon Kingfisher Dr. McKeon Art Theory 2 23 February, 2017 Plato and Ion To Plato, the world and
mind set is a mimesis of the true absolute world. That all shapes found by definition here is
transcendent in the realm that is greater and above this reality. When applying this belief of ideal
concepts in forms to our world, Plato then can theorize importance of professions here based on its
direction to those praised forms above. In Art Beauty by Hofstadter and Kuhns, Plato s written works
from 400 B.C. can map out his philosophy on artworks. We particularly find that Plato creates a
distinction between poetry and art works as two different classes. Plato seeks a higher reality than the
imminent one around us, therefore, everything he finds of art and anything else here in this reality will
ultimately be based on its true form. We can find these answers in Ion when the famed minstrel,
named Ion, asks of Plato to explain why he only stays ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the Republic, Plato centers any form of creating something as poiesis no matter what is being

Therefore, having a basis in names, art and poetry are similar in that they both are a form of creating
by us no matter if we technically crafted it or was possessed and forced to make the art. Poetry does
not follow the three main things to create techne listed from Plato, but lacks one rule leaving it similar,
but not the same. We can assemble poetry with our minds making it our media we use; the skill is in
the creating process of using the mind to make the words of poetry. Then there is the knowledge or
understanding in how to manipulate the medium. This is the training to make a chair or to make a

Foundations of Psychology
Foundations of Psychology
Psychology is an academic and applied discipline involving the scientific study of mental processes
and behavior. There is some tension between scientific psychology (with its program of empirical
research) and applied psychology (dealing with a number of areas). Psychologists attempt to explain
the mind and brain in the context of real life. In contrast neurologists utilize a physiological approach.
Psychologists study such phenomena as perception, cognition, emotion, personality, behavior, and
interpersonal relationships. Psychology also refers to the application of such knowledge to various

The school of thought known as structuralism was initiated by Edward Titchener, one of Wundt s
students. This school of thought was called structuralism because of Titchener s interest in the
structural make up of consciousness. It was Ticthener s hope to devise a table of the levels, or
elements of human consciousness using Wundt s introspection idea. Ticthener viewed psychology
scientifically. He believed that the only way to understand psychology was through experimentation.
This eventually led to the idea that sensation and feelings were unscientific because it could not be
measured by anyone but the person experiencing it. The second school of thought that was popular in
psychology s beginning was known as functionalism. This school of though focused on the role
psychological processes have on helping people adapt to their surroundings. Functionalists believe
that consciousness exists because it serves a function (Kowalski Westen, 2005). William James, one of
the founders of functionalism, set out to explain why we think the way that we do. These two schools
of thought branch out even further to offer assumptions or perspectives on these theories.

A study on Bhutanese living in Thimphu City
Chapter I
Background of the study
Organization for Economic Co operation and Development (OECD) International Network on
Financial Education (INFE) has defined financial literacy as a combination of awareness, knowledge,
skill, attitude and behaviour necessary to make sound financial decisions and ultimately achieve
individual financial wellbeing . Bhushan and Medury (2013) stated that financial literacy helps
individuals to improve their level of understanding of financial matters which enables them to process
financial information and make informed decisions about personal finance. It was found that well
functional financial markets depend on participants making informed decisions (Agarwalla et al.,
2012). Moreover, Bhushan and Medury (2013) found that financial education empowers individuals to
take their financial decisions in a better and effective way.
Financial literacy is increasingly important as it has become essential that consumers acquire the skills
to be able to survive in modern society and cope with the increasing diversity and complexity of
financial products and services (Bird, 2008). However, various researches including OECD survey
and International Financial Literacy Barometer (IFLB) have shown that the levels of financial literacy
worldwide are unacceptably low. Further, it was also found that developing countries have low level
of financial literacy

What Leadership Means Essay
What Leadership Means
Leadership is the behaviour of an individual when he is directing the activities of a group towards a
shared goal . (Hemphill and Coons,
1957, p.7)
A leader is interpreted as someone who sets direction in an effort and influences people to follow that
direction. How they set that direction and influence people depends on a variety of factors. To really
comprehend the territory of leadership, one should briefly scan some of the major theories, notice
various styles of leadership and review some of the suggested traits and characteristics that leaders
should have.
There are many leadership theories. Arthur G. Jago (1982) proposed a framework that organizes

Initiating structure: Initiating structure, also known as job oriented behaviour, refers to leadership
behaviour that is aimed at careful supervision of employee work methods and performance levels.
Some research indicates that those leaders that were high in consideration would be more effective
than those who were high in initiating structure, particularly in regard to maintaining employee
satisfaction and performance and reducing turnover and absenteeism.
Subsequent research argued that being high in both dimensions was necessary for effective leadership.
As the early researchers ran out of steam in their search for traits, they turned to what leaders did how
they behaved (especially towards followers). They moved from leaders to leadership and this became
the dominant way of approaching leadership within organizations in the
1950s and early 1960s. Different patterns of behaviour were grouped together and labelled as styles.
This became a very popular activity within management training ? perhaps the best known being
Blake and
Mouton?s Managerial Grid (1964; 1978). Various schemes appeared, designed to diagnose and
develop people?s style of working. Despite different names, the basic ideas were very similar. The

Character Analysis Of Emma s House, By George Knightley
The protagonist is called, Emma Woodhouse.
The first sentence of the novel describes her as a handsome, clever, and rich girl, with a comfortable
home and happy disposition , a sentence that I immediately associated with the snobbish societies that
were common in that period. That s why I wasn t looking forward to reading the rest of the story. And
my presumption was met in the first chapter where she only seemed to care about herself. She seemed
to be a classic example of a menefreghista as we say in Italian, that means that she is a person with an
uncaring or couldn t care less attitude.
I was really surprised when things took a turn real quick and it wasn t just a story about a spoilt, rich
girl, with rich girls problems anymore. It ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He is important in the story because he serves as a model of good sense and is the only one who
openly critices Emma and points out all her flaws and foibles. Not because he is bitter or enjoys
making people feel down, but out of genuine concern and care for her. He therefor is my favorite
character. His unfailing honesty is tempered with tact and kindheartedness.
He has had some lapses of judgment and self control, but they were only caused by his uncontrollable
love for Emma. He immediately makes clear that he doesn t like Frank and everyone knows Knightley
just feels jealous and does not welcome the new rival. This jealousy causes Knightley to behave very
uncharacteristicly impulsive; he escapes to London to declare his love to Emma. This loss of control
just makes clear that he is just a normal human being with feelings.
Frank is the typical smooth bad boy, girls like so much. He epitomizes attractiveness in speech,

enough to indulge him. He really seems to be the manly version of Emma, that s probably why they

Uneven Playing Field
I have decided to write a response paper to Michael Sokolove s The Uneven Playing Field. The ideas
that Sokolove has presented in this article was very interesting and I agree with him. I will be relating
Sokolove s article with overspecialization and how is it harmful to younger athletes, injury prevention
programs and the way that they help prevent injuries, the exception to the injury prevention programs,
and mentality of athletes when they do get injured or hurt.
As mentioned by Sokolove on page two, ... we increasingly ask more of young athletes, especially if
they show talent: play longer, play harder, play faster, play for higher stakes. And we ask this of boys
and girls equally unmindful of physical differences. The pressure to concentrate on a best sport before
even entering middle school and to play it year round is bad for all kids. I agree with Sokolove s quote
because overspecialization can harm the social, emotional, and physical development of young
athletes. Specifically, in terms of the physical development of an athlete for this reading response
paper, overspecialization leads young athletes to commit the majority of their physical activity to one
sport and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Sokolove mentioned this idea on page two when he says The influence of estrogen makes girls
ligaments lax, and they outperform boys in tests of overall body flexibility a performance advantage in
many sports, but also an injury risk when not accompanied by sufficient muscle to keep joints in
stable, safe positions. This comes back to the injury prevention program; it will help strengthen the
athletes weaknesses. These athletes with the injury prone bodies will still have a risk of hurting
themselves in the future, but the risk percentage will decrease with the help of the prevention

Insanity In Hamlet Essay
Questioning the Sanity of Hamlet In Hamlet by William Shakespeare, Hamlet s sanity is questionable
throughout the play. Insanity is defined as the unsoundness of mind or lack of the ability to understand
(Merriam Webster). In the play, Hamlet s father, King Hamlet, is murdered by Claudius, Hamlet s
uncle, in secrecy. To make matter s worse, Claudius then continues on to get married in an inscetuous
relationship with Hamlet s mother, the queen. Emotions are heightened when Hamlet then see s a
ghost that claim s to be King Hamlet. The Ghost tells Hamlet that Claudius is the murderer and that
Hamlet must seek revenge for his father s death. In order to protect himself of being accused for
treason, Hamlet decides he will act insane as an ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Hamlet displays intelligence in the pursuit of avenging his father s death.
Hamlet again displays critical thinking when he does not blindly kill but first proves to himself that
Claudius is, in fact, guilty. To do this, Hamlet requests a player to perform a play that Hamlet had
edited to mimic King Hamlet s murder. If Claudius do blench, I know my course (Shakespeare,
II.ii.626 627), the course being murdering Claudius. By having a reaction to the play, Claudius is
inadvertently admitting to Hamlet that he is guilty of murder. Some think that this is not enough
evidence to commit treason, however, later in the play the readers learn that Claudius admits to
murder in the secrecy of the church; my offense is rank, it smells to the heavens; It hath the primal
eldest curse upon t, A brother s murder (Shakespeare, III.iii.40 42). By admitting his guilt it is know
Hamlet is not insane, rather is justified in his pursuit of revenge. It is near impossible for Hamlet to
prove Claudius guilty, and the play is the best way he can. It is irrefutable that the play is better than
nothing, and this is a clear exhibit of critical thinking a quality insane people cannot posses.
During the second appearance of the ghost, Hamlet is the only one who can see it. Many argue this is
a sign the ghost is false, and Hamlet is crazy because he can see it. While having a conversation with
his mother, Queen Gertrude, Hamlet sees the ghost and converses with

Elements Of The Labyrinth
Millhauser Introduction There are few tropes that have endured and evolved as much as the labyrinth.
From ancient to postmodern times, the labyrinth has evolved from a symbol of divine order to an
expression of chaos. Because it is such a flexible symbol, the labyrinth has endured even as the nature
of human thought has evolved. This project aims to explore the labyrinthine elements of American
writer Steven Millhauser s short fiction.
The idea of the labyrinth is demonstratively present in Millhauser s short fiction. However, his usage
of the labyrinth is at once the same and different than preceding eras of short fiction. Postmodern short
fiction in the 1960 s and 70 s utilized the labyrinthine to draw attention to its own textuality. The
labyrinth was a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One important characteristic of the labyrinth is its essential interiority. The labyrinth of Greek
mythology, built by Daedalus for King Minos of Crete, had a perplexing and imprisoning interior. The
complexity of its interior served its function: the imprisonment of the Minotaur a half man and half
bull creature. In her book The Idea of the Labyrinth, Penelope Doob traces the evolution of the
labyrinth in art, culture and literature from antiquity to the middle ages. Doob observes that the
labyrinth of ancient mythology was so perplexing that its maker, Daedalus, could scarcely navigate it
(Doob, 36). The confusion and imprisoning nature of the mythological labyrinth points to the trope s
inextricable quality: its interior ambages (Doob 66). Likewise, Hermann Kern asserts that the most
important feature of the labyrinth [is]...the negative space of the path formed by those lines which
determined the pattern of movement (Kern 23). Nietzsche, too, observes that the force of the labyrinth
is that its meaning resides solely in its interiority (Nietzsche

Smallpox Vaccine Advantages And Disadvantages Essay
Smallpox was a serious and extremely contagious disease which left three out of ten of its victims
dead. Those who survived were permanently scarred and sometimes blinded. In 1977, however,
smallpox was defeated and eradicated. The disease which once killed so many people now exists only
in laboratories. This was accomplished by widespread vaccination (What is Smallpox?). Contrary to
recent controversy, the benefits of vaccines far outweigh the disadvantages. Vaccines have been
proven effective tools for disease prevention and should continue to be used.
A vaccine is a weak or inactive form of a pathogen (something that causes disease). When the vaccine
is injected into a person, it stimulates the production of antibodies to destroy the vaccine. Certain cells

You are more likely to be struck by lightning than to have a serious allergic reaction to a vaccine. The
chance of intussusception is 1/20,000 (Potential Side Effects of Vaccines).
Vaccines can also have dangerous ingredients. Aluminum, for example, is found in some vaccines, and
can, in excess, cause serious neurological harm. Formaldehyde, a carcinogen, is also found in some
vaccines. These potentially dangerous ingredients are, however, present in such small quantities in
vaccines that they are harmless.
It is also speculated that the MMR (Measles, Mumps, and Rubella) vaccine causes autism. However,
numerous studies have shown that there is no correlation between the MMR vaccine and autism. Even
when studying children already at a high risk for autism, vaccination did not increase the risk (Anjali
et al.,). Vaccines are extensively and carefully tested before being released to the public. Even after
being released, vaccines are carefully monitored for any dangerous side effects (Ensuring Vaccine

New Fern Homes Analysis
In my last post I discussed my visit to New Bern to select and photograph homes. The next part of my
research process was to select houses that I would analyze in Williamsburg. Initially I thought I would
be able to compare homes of very similar ages but this turned out not to be the case. Although I had
selected the oldest homes in New Bern, most were still built significantly later than those of
Williamsburg. The homes in New Bern were built in the latter part of the 18th century, while many
homes in Williamsburg were built in the early or mid 18th century. Additionally, the New Bern homes
were all grand in size, most having two or more stories. In contrast, the majority of homes I researched
in Colonial Williamsburg were more modest in size. After choosing several homes in Colonial
Williamsburg, I again met with Mr. Klee, the architectural historian for the Colonial Williamsburg
Foundation, who I discussed my findings with. For starters, I had hoped to compare the general ...

Taliferro was also responsible for repairing and renovating the Governor s Palace and may have been
working on both projects at the same time (Whiffen 175). In 1755 George Wythe married Elizabeth,
Richard Taliferro s daughter and then moved into the house. When Taliferro died in 1755, the house
was deeded to the couple. The brickwork of the exterior is of high quality with artistic touches seen in
the flayed brickwork above the windows (Whiffen 175). Perhaps the most notable aspect of the house
s construction is the use of ratios and symmetry to appeal to the viewer s eye (Whiffen 88). All four
exteriors of the house are symmetrical, with the interior only symmetrical along the east west axis
(Whiffen 175). Outbuildings and kitchens were removed from the main structure, as was typical in

Of Mice And Men Are White
For the most part, the characters in Of Mice and Men are white males, with two very important
exceptions: Curleys wife, who is central to the stores, and the marginalized, stable buck who is
referred to only as Crooks.236 His presence in the novel adds a considerable amount of thematic
power. Chapter 4 is entirely framed around him. Yet this character presents something of a challenge
for African American readers, especially for the younger generation. Not just a literary question, but
rather one of the most important cultural problems facing African American society. Black Americans
have always been acutely sensitive to the fictional portraits of themselves created by white Americans
in the early 20th century, even with those portraits as sympathetic as the one Steinbeck offers us. All
the black Americans, and all people belonging to a racial or ethnic minority in a predominately white
setting, must learn at a very early age to read all manner of phenomenon from the nuanced and
polyvalent standpoint of a bi fold conscience. From this vantage point, one can see simultaneous night
and day Historically, black Americans, Asians, and Hispanics had to develop this epistemic skill set,
requiring a lot of work. It became incumbent upon them to know the white curriculum and its
assumptions as well if not better than white students beside them.237 The universal theme of
loneliness and homelessness appears differently in this novel, revealing its most radical dimensions

Omelas Ethics
Omelas is a city that is free of most of the troubles modern day cities face, such as pollution. This city
is anything one could want it to be, as laid out by Le Guin. Omelas is an amazing place, where people
can live freely and without worry, but they must live with the dark side of the city. Ethics plays a big
role in The Ones Who Walk Away from Omelas because the citizens must be cruel to this child, who is
locked away from everything, for Omelas to be a prosperous city.
The citizens of Omelas choose to treat the child in an inhumane way so the city can thrive. Le Guin
writes They may brood over it for weeks or years. But as time goes on they begin to realize that even
if the child could be released it would not get much good of freedom: ... Show more content on

silent... and walk straight out of the city of Omelas, through the beautiful gates...they leave Omelas,
they walk ahead into the darkness, and they do not come back (739). These people realize that they no
longer want to live in a place where it is acceptable to imprison a child, and treat him very cruelly,
without much concern towards the child. Leaving the city is important because Omelas is seen as a
city in a fairy tale (736). Fairy tales are usually a fantasy about a world where everything ends happily
ever after with dreams coming true. The citizens of Omelas learn that they, like the child, are not free
(739). The realization that they are trapped may be the reason that so many of the citizens are no
longer upset about the treatment of the child. All that is known about those that leave is that The place
they go towards is even less imaginable to most of us than the city of happiness. I cannot describe it at

Essay on Native American Sound Instruments
quot;Native American Sound Instruments quot;
Through my own personal experiences and teachings from Native Americans, that have offered to
enlighten me, I ve gathered that there is a sacred nature rich in spirit and soul to them. The Native
American lives religion as a way of life. Children of the tribe grow up in this world of spirituality and
learn from example that religion can come as easily as taking a breath every day. This is no attempt to

are used as a part of that religion or spirituality. There are many sound instruments used by Native
Americans, but they vary accordingly from tribe to tribe. The Native American sound ... Show more

One reason a drum is thought of having medicine is when the drum is made from cedar. The Cedar
tree has been known as a powerful healing tree and thus this medicine is passed on to the drum as a
sort of healing energy. The other reason that a drum is thought to have medicine is because of what
type of skin is used. Elk, deer, buffalo, horse, and moose, just to name a few, all have some kind of
significance when it comes to being used on a drum.
To the First Nations, deer is considered to have a connection to the circulatory system. To be more
precise, the Heart, the heart can be left unattended for long periods of time. This lack of attention can
lead to high poverty in the sense that there is never enough time, never enough money, or never
enough love. Native Americans believe that Deer opens the heart to allow them the teachings of trust
and to allow them to empower the power of love and wisdom. They feel that drumming with Deer has

remind them that they live in a universe filled with more than enough of every thing that is needed.
Drumming with Deer helps when the feeling of being unloved engulfs someone, it in turn reminds
them of the laws of circulation. In other words, when one is feeling unloved then its time to love
others and all things, and soon that love will be returned tenfold.
Drumming with Buffalo is used when one seeks to gain wisdom and guidance from their Ancestors by

Speech On Flyboarding
At first I thought it was the abundant utilization of alcohol and daylight. There we were, one hot
evening the previous summer, on a vessel amidst Lake Mead, watching somebody suspend over the
water on a board fastened to a Jet Ski, two considerable surges of water impacting from underneath
the rider s feet. Iron Man? No, simply some fella attempting to keep his parity. This provoked heaps of
whoas, picture taking and Instagram posting, and gathering Googling to take in more about the
marvelousness we were seeing.

My Primary Artifact Essay
My primary artifact sample is a makeup tutorial in text/picture form. In this tutorial, the kyshadow
bronze palette is being used by Kylie Jenner herself. Kylie Jenner made a video tutorial of this look
and took little clips out and made a picture how to tutorial to simplify how to get this makeup look.
My next artifact is a makeup video tutorial video by Kylie Jenner s makeup artist using the same
kyshadow palette. I liked this video because the makeup artist tells the viewer what specific brushes
she is using, what colors she is using and exactly where she is putting them. My final artifact is
another kyshadow makeup video tutorial by Roxette Arisa. I chose this video tutorial because it s not
like the other tutorials. Roxette talks about what she thinks about the palette and also does a makeup
look and explains it very well. My artifacts all belong in the makeup genre. My first artifact would fall

Summary This is the final article in a nine part series describing the Principles of Nursing Practice developed by the Royal College of Nursing (RCN) in collaboration with patient and service organisations, the Department of Health, the Nursing and Midwifery Council, nurses and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Strengthening the supervisory role of the ward sister or team leader ensures that sufficient priority and time will be given to managing and developing team performance. This will enhance the patient experience and improve patient outcomes while contributing to organisational priorities, for example reducing hospital acquired infections and staff sickness rates. to ensure that nursing is able to sustain quality care and remain responsive to individuals needs on a daily basis (Box 1). Case study Nursing leadership and responsiveness is demonstrated when opportunities for the development of new services to meet the changing needs of service users are identified. This often involves developing new skills in the nursing team or taking on roles previously undertaken by other team members. A good example of this is the work undertaken by Royal Devon and Exeter NHS Foundation Trust ophthalmic nurse practitioner Brian Kingett. Age related macular degeneration (AMD) affects large numbers of older people in the developed world and is the most common cause of blindness in people over the age of 55 years (Vendula and Krzystolik 2008). Wet AMD occurs when blood vessels grow between the retinal pigment epithelial cells and the photoreceptor cells in the centre of the retina to form a choroidal neovascular membrane. • 3. Multicultural Education Chapter 15 Summary Chapter fifteen of Multicultural Education is divided into three major sections. These three sections include recruitment and barriers, recruitment recommendations, and retention issues/difficulties. A large part of this chapter focuses on the underrepresentation of culturally diverse students in gifted and advance placement programs. When taking a look at gifted education programs, there is an extreme underrepresentation of African Americans, Hispanic Americans, and Native Americans in these programs. Gifted education programs are a need not just a privilege and should not be used as a simple form of segregation between races or cultures. In 1954, the United States Supreme Court ruled deliberate school segregation to be unconstitutional. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Such supports may include teaching of study skills, test taking skills, time management skills, and organizational skills. Whether or not a student is gifted is often associated with their achievement and productivity. It used to be believed that there was no such thing as a gifted underachiever, but over time that has proven to be false. Gifted students may tend to underachieve when they are unmotivated or uninterested in school, are procrastinators, do not complete assignments or only do enough to get by. Gifted underachievers are not as likely to receive or be referred for gifted education or advanced placement classes. This often occurs due to testing being warped and using a single mode of assessment, such as focusing only on IQ scores, Rather than using a single mode of assessment, testing should include both intelligence and achievement data in order to fully determine if a student is both gifted and achieving, gifted and underachieving, or gifted but weak when it comes to academic or social skills. This would help significantly when it comes to determining placement decisions for students as well as help those gifted underachievers become achievers by teaching them study and language skills that they may currently be lacking. Recruitment for gifted education programs need to develop a more well rounded philosophy, significant changes in the deciding ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. The Middle East On Social Media The term don t judge a book by it s cover has so much meaning to it and since the dawn of time our world as we know it is taken by labels that we live by today. My ethnicity alone has these very labels that by nature have grown on one another. When one would talk about the middle east on social media the first thing that comes to mind is the war and countless bloodshed that spilled and the impact it had on many lives. All the stories distributed by social media display attacks and war in the middle east, portray all middle easterners to be muslim, and only tell the tale of terrorists to the public. Social media is only showing people, very little stories about Middle Easterners. One of those shameful stories is the tale of war, violence, and suffering. A few misconceptions people have is that all Middle Eastern s are dangerous. This is due to social media and the tales being spread. Anne Barnard says in her article for The New York Times, Lebanon has weathered waves of political assassinations, street skirmishes and wars; Israeli airstrikes leveled whole apartment blocks in 2006 . Anne Barnard may not realize it, but she is distributing one story about the Lebanon, my home country. Which, is really a beautiful country with many small towns and tight communities. Yes, there is the story of war and violence, but there is also a story of family and culture. No one hears about the positive in the Middle East. The definition of child protection is the process of protecting individual children identified as either suffering, or likely to suffer, significant harm because of abuse or neglect. The term child protection is increasingly being replaced by safeguarding . Safeguarding has been described as; a broader definition of the range of ways in which adults and professionals working with children need to act when dealing with child protection issues (Ref: www.education.gov.uk/) Safeguarding refers to the prevention of harm to children and child protection is used more when dealing with policies and procedures following an event of suspected harm. ... • 7. Neuroplasticity and Justice Justice is often thought of in nebulous terms. As such, it is often viewed through a philosophical lens. Indeed, justice has been examined by prominent philosophers such as John Rawls and Friedrich Hayek. Often regarded as a soft science, the idea of justice finds itself the subject of a theoretical framework rather than of scientific study. Despite this theoretical view, much of the theory surrounding justice seeks to determine the causes for a given type of behavior. These theories discuss which penological methods work to correct these behaviors. However, the theory that one can modify his or her brain in order to create new behaviors exists within the scientific biological/psychological realm. By contrast, there are those ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This is concurrent with the logical, conscious reasoning of the C system that overrides the X system s prototypes in order to closely analyze a new situation and adapt accordingly. Thus, fairness (justice) is an extension of cognitive behavioral regulation. Akin to the sense of reparation that Jackman (2012) discusses when one applies the concept of restorative justice, the concept of neuroplasticity also seeks a sense of reparation, albeit in a more literal way. Consistent with the idea of learning and the brain s interaction with the environment, neuroplasticity is the idea that the human brain can change and grow, that it can modify itself to compensate for weak spots and expand limits (Cockrell, 2007). For example, it was once thought that neuron production slows down exponentially in adulthood, but research reveals that this is not the case. Research has found that the brains of aging cancer patients were still able to produce new neurons (Cockrell, 2007). The human brain is an extremely complex organ. Inside the average human brain, there are 200 billion neurons. These neurons allow for trillions of connections (Arrowsmith, 2013). Arrowsmith (2013) discussed Mark Rosenshwag, a neuroscientist who conducted an experiment with rats. Rosenswag placed the rats in a stimulating environment and found that rats were better learners because of the stimulation. The Issue of Using Traditional Ways for Running the Pharmaceutical Industry From rising customer expectations, to poor methods of research and development, there are many reasons to modernize the current business model of the pharmaceutical industry. The major issue is the fact that experts rely on traditional methods regarding management and a business model. The pharmaceutical industry is now facing the reality that other industries have previously dealt with, where companies have been forced to remodel themselves. This is not an easy task, as the landscape of the cultural industry has to fundamentally change. This in turns affects each level and individual in the corporation. There are many variations as to why modifications are ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It will explore methods that can be practiced to improve research and development and innovate business models in established and emerging marketplaces. Which can in turn be used to lessen the forfeiture of earnings on account of patent expiration and absence of prominent medicines. Johnson and Johnson, Novartis and Abbott are just a few companies that are modernizing their facilities, devices and diagnostics. They are transforming their actions outside the traditional business model. Some companies are proceeding in the direction of the Emerging Markets who have not fully developed their potential such as, Astra Zeneca and GlaxoSmithKline (GSK). These companies mentioned are recognizing that if they do not initiate a response to these problems, they could develop into a permanent setback. Lack of scientific productivity and innovation is one of the main issues the pharmaceutical industry is suffering from. Researchers and developers are under serious scrutiny and extreme safety standards by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). This results in little room to innovate. There are fewer products being permitted and scientists are thus failing to reach potential in delivering care for patients and their own commercial profits. Companies do not take risks and therefore have bad portfolios. Pharmaceutical industries need to allocate the expense and the risks of backing research and development. Businesses owners should not be allowed to turn down a resume just because of the sexual orientation of the applicant, but instead turn them down because of qualification issues. The SOGI laws are not perfect but they are a start to what the country needs to achieve in order for everyone to truly be equal. SOGI laws would prohibit schools, charities, and businesses form using their person views to deny people based off of their sexual orientation, which in turn restrict the first amendment rights. The Institute for Policy Studies is liberal and had the average liberal viewpoints while The Heritage Foundation is conservative and had the average viewpoints conservatives would have. The whole structure collapses if they fail, therefore proper care should be taken while constructing them. • 14. The Progressive Era Of The United States George F. Will once said, The United States is a successful nation that is constantly susceptible to melancholy because things are not perfect. During the 1880 s to the 1920 s this statement seemed to be true about America but this sadness was not seen from the outside. The Progressive Era brought out these issues and made everyone aware of them. This era was a period in the United States that consisted of social activism and political reforms. The importance of this era was the passing of labor laws, anti trust laws, unionization for important industries and the introduction of four new amendments in the constitution. Children have been servants throughout human history. Employers were taking advantage of children by making them work very long days and work in dangerous conditions. Children laborers also lacked an education due to the long hours they worked. Children worked to help support families but yet got very little pay. Reformers and labor organizers wanted to restrict children labor and improve the working conditions. Most Americans would never agree, they wanted adults to run the work world and rather give any available job to an adult than a child. The education reformers battled the vast majority of America because of their opinions on child education. (I. Yellowitz) After a while, primary school education was a necessity. Comparing Plato And Beauty By Hofstadter And Kuhns Talon Kingfisher Dr. McKeon Art Theory 2 23 February, 2017 Plato and Ion To Plato, the world and mind set is a mimesis of the true absolute world. That all shapes found by definition here is transcendent in the realm that is greater and above this reality. When applying this belief of ideal concepts in forms to our world, Plato then can theorize importance of professions here based on its direction to those praised forms above. In Art Beauty by Hofstadter and Kuhns, Plato s written works from 400 B.C. can map out his philosophy on artworks. We particularly find that Plato creates a distinction between poetry and art works as two different classes. Plato seeks a higher reality than the imminent one around us, therefore, everything he finds of art and anything else here in this reality will ultimately be based on its true form. Bhushan and Medury (2013) stated that financial literacy helps individuals to improve their level of understanding of financial matters which enables them to process financial information and make informed decisions about personal finance. It was found that well functional financial markets depend on participants making informed decisions (Agarwalla et al., 2012). Moreover, Bhushan and Medury (2013) found that financial education empowers individuals to take their financial decisions in a better and effective way. Financial literacy is increasingly important as it has become essential that consumers acquire the skills to be able to survive in modern society and cope with the increasing diversity and complexity of financial products and services (Bird, 2008). How they set that direction and influence people depends on a variety of factors. To really comprehend the territory of leadership, one should briefly scan some of the major theories, notice various styles of leadership and review some of the suggested traits and characteristics that leaders should have. Subsequent research argued that being high in both dimensions was necessary for effective leadership. As the early researchers ran out of steam in their search for traits, they turned to what leaders did how they behaved (especially towards followers). They moved from leaders to leadership and this became the dominant way of approaching leadership within organizations in the 1950s and early 1960s. Hamlet displays intelligence in the pursuit of avenging his father s death. Hamlet again displays critical thinking when he does not blindly kill but first proves to himself that Claudius is, in fact, guilty. To do this, Hamlet requests a player to perform a play that Hamlet had edited to mimic King Hamlet s murder. If Claudius do blench, I know my course (Shakespeare, II.ii.626 627), the course being murdering Claudius. By having a reaction to the play, Claudius is inadvertently admitting to Hamlet that he is guilty of murder. Some think that this is not enough evidence to commit treason, however, later in the play the readers learn that Claudius admits to murder in the secrecy of the church; my offense is rank, it smells to the heavens; It hath the primal eldest curse upon t, A brother s murder (Shakespeare, III.iii.40 42). By admitting his guilt it is know Hamlet is not insane, rather is justified in his pursuit of revenge. It is near impossible for Hamlet to prove Claudius guilty, and the play is the best way he can. It is irrefutable that the play is better than nothing, and this is a clear exhibit of critical thinking a quality insane people cannot posses. One important characteristic of the labyrinth is its essential interiority. The labyrinth of Greek mythology, built by Daedalus for King Minos of Crete, had a perplexing and imprisoning interior. The complexity of its interior served its function: the imprisonment of the Minotaur a half man and half bull creature. In her book The Idea of the Labyrinth, Penelope Doob traces the evolution of the labyrinth in art, culture and literature from antiquity to the middle ages. Doob observes that the labyrinth of ancient mythology was so perplexing that its maker, Daedalus, could scarcely navigate it (Doob, 36). The confusion and imprisoning nature of the mythological labyrinth points to the trope s inextricable quality: its interior ambages (Doob 66).
