Business Communication Essay example
Business communication needs to become interpersonal again. No matter how we believe our
human forms came into existence, we were built to need personal contact and function best with
face to face communication. As children, we desired comfort from touch, a hug from our mothers.
As teenagers, we held hands with our boyfriend or girlfriend. As adults in the workforce, we still
need to feel that connection and comfort with our families and the people we work with. As Susan
RoAne (2008), owner of a speaking, consulting, and coaching business, discusses one way we feel
this connection is through getting to know and building trust by communicating in person. Through
this interpersonal interaction, we not only feel more comfortable around... Show more content on

For the greatest success of the business, employees need interpersonal communication to connect
with their co workers. A leadership expert, John C. Maxwell (2010) says: Connecting goes
beyond words. (p. 41). Physically being in the same room, verbally speaking thoughts, engaging
in eye contact, and being able to see nonverbal responses are all important and add to a person s
understanding of the message being communicated and feeling a connection. Overall,
communicating face to face is more natural for employees. An employee knows who is hearing
what they are saying and seeing their nonverbal gestures. The employee can either get immediate
feedback whether or not the person understands or agrees or disagrees. The communication does
not have to be formatted as it does on paper. An employee should still present themselves
professionally, but communicating face to face is a process, instead of format.
Through in person communication, employees will be able to not only build needed
connections, but relationships and trust with co workers in the business. Maslow s hierarchy of
needs is like a staircase, a person needs to satisfy the lower stairs to easily reach and fulfill the
higher staircases. If you refer to Figure 1 on page 9, social needs, feeling connections with people
around you, are

Tuberculosis As A Infectious Disease
Tuberculosis (TB) is a highly infectious disease that can harm any organ of the body, especially the
lungs. Every year about over a million people die due to tuberculosis and even more are infected. A
person in contact with an infected individual can easily put themselves at risks of getting TB. Due
to the emergence of human immunodeficiency virus (HIV), tuberculosisinfections commenced to
increment more rapidly. A person with HIV has an impotent immune system which is not able to
fight infections such as tuberculosis. There are many ways to diagnose, prevent and treat the
further spread of this disease.
There are many ways to identify and diagnose the presence and severity of tuberculosis. One of the
most prevalent ways to test for TB is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Sputum tests may be required for testing if the chest x ray reveals signs of TB.
Tuberculosis can spread by contagious airborne droplets that are passed on easily through close
contact with a person who has active or untreated TB. As a person coughs, sneezes, or interacts, it
can relinquish infectious droplets into the air. Once a person inhales the infectious droplet
(bacillus), it settles in the upper airways. Bacteria in droplets that bypass the mucociliary system
and reach the alveoli are expeditiously circumvented and engulfed by alveolar macrophages, the
most abundant immune effector cells present in alveolar spaces (Knechel, 2009). These
macrophages are a component of the immune system that fights to destroy the mycobacteria to
obviate infection. The outcome is essentially determined by the quality of the host bulwarks and the
balance that occurs between host bulwarks and the invading mycobacteria (Knechel, 2009). If the
alveolar macrophage fails to overcome the inhaled mycobacteria, the bacteria will replicate until the
macrophage lysis. As the monocytes are magnetized to the infection site, it then separates into
macrophages and consumes the free bacilli. The mycobacteria then multiply within the
macrophages causing it to become infected. The infected macrophages may then be transported to
the lymph nodes where it can easily reach the blood stream. After two to three weeks of infection,
the helper T cells are

Risky Play Injury
Some types of play involve taking risks, which can lead to unintentional injury. Although there is
the factor of risk, these forms of play are vital to children s developmental process (Brussoni,
Olsen, Pike Sleet, 2012). The main type of play likely to lead to injury is physical play, described
by Brussoni, et al. (2012) as rough and tumble play (p. 3136). Physical play can involve over the
top rowdy activities that have the potential to cause injury(Brussoni, et al., 2012). A child benefits
from this kind of play as it helps them to form friendships, develop their mental and intellectual
capabilities and learn their limits amongst many other important areas of their development. If a
child s opportunity to take part in risky play is... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Educational training programmes regarding childhood safety are an important method for parents
to help prevent and reduce the risk of unintentional injuries in children (Smithson, Garside
Pearson, 2011). A study conducted by Brannen (1992, as cited in Smithson, et al., 2011) showed
an outcome that parents who participated in educational programmes in the community,
regarding home safety, were less likely to have a child obtain an injury. This was compared to
parents who received this information shortly after the birth of their child, resulting in a higher
risk of injury occurring to their child as this information was less likely to be recalled (Smithson,
et al., 2011). Considering this, parents should learn to recognise the significance of removing
hazards in the child s play environment but still leaving some risks in order for them to gain
important skills (Brussoni, et al., 2012). This allows the child to be involved in risky play, but in a
more controlled environment, which still has a minor factor of risk. This gives the child an
opportunity to assess a situation and choose the appropriate course of action concerning that
situation, therefor giving the child the opportunity to learn and improve on problem solving skills

own rendition of Broadway performances. From the very first step on the cruise until your
departure, there are an endless amount of activities. Whether you enjoy hanging out at the pool,
participating in games, or dancing, there is always something to do. I have traveled to the
Eastern Caribbean, Bermuda, and the Western Caribbean on Celebrity Cruises with my family
since I was 12 years old. I have also traveled Norwegian in Hawaii as well as to Bermuda on Royal
Caribbean, and overall I would rate Celebrity the best! Celebrity offers a list of excursions for

Primaries In Presidential Elections
There are several different types of primaries in presidential elections that allow only specific
candidates to move forward to the general elections. Each primary accomplishes a different goal,
which can range from establishing a favorite party to establishing a favorite candidate. After
reviewing the four main types of primary systems in the American Democratic system, the system
that provides the most benefits is the open primary system. A major benefit of the open primary
system is that the voters are able to vote for their favorite candidate rather than their favorite party.
A voter may not always identify solely with one party or their views may not always closely
resemble the views expressed by their established party. Therefore an open

Trafalgar House Essay
ANSWER As the new purchaser of Trafalgar house, title to which was already registered,
Kenneth must register his purchase as established by s. 27(2) (a) of the Land Registration Act
2002 (LRA) . Section 27(1) of the LRA states that a disposition of a registered estate or registered
charge is required to be registered and it does not operate at law until the requirements are met.
In addition, section 29 of the LRA states that a new registered proprietor who gives value takes
the land subject to any unregistered interest which override under the provisions of Schedule 3
of the LRA 2002 . The purchaser is also bound by an interest which has been protected by an
entry on the register or by notice or restriction. As such, it is important to establish whether
Kenneth is subject to any third party rights. (a)Philip The question here is whether Philip s
express trust is binding on Kenneth and, if so, whether it is a legal or equitable interest. Philip
is a beneficiary, he has a beneficial interest on the house. One may argue that Philip has an
equitable interest to the house as it does not fall within those listed as legal interest under s.1(2)
of the Law of Property Act 1925(LPA) . Kenneth will only be bound by Philip s interest if it was
registered as a restriction under s.40 of the LRA... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Realism And The Impressionism Movement
Heavily influenced by the previous art era,, the Realism period, The impressionism period came to
rise in the earlier years of the nineteenth century. Impressionism focused mainly on the more
modern world, but specifically targeted in the more urban parts of Paris. Impressionism originated
from a group of French artists that created a style of art that was more likely for them to use. The
subject of an impressionist artist was primarily composed of contemporary landscapes and
depictions of modern art. Impressionists painted in a way that depicted light in the paintings as a
form of movement. Impressionismartist preferred to paint outdoors rather than inside, to focus on
the landscape and enjoyed to paint the everyday life of people. One of the more breakthrough artist
during the Impressionism movement was Camille Pissarro. Pissarro s style of art left a lasting
impression on the followers of the impressionist movement. Later in the nineteenth Century, the era
of Post Impressionismwas introduced to the world. The post impressionism movement paved the
way for the development of more modern arts. The artwork of Post impressionism heavily rebelled
against the style and structure of impressionism. The style of the post impressionism movement
was stressed throughout the significant increase of emotion and focus on more symbolic subject
matter compared to the impressionism period. At first glance, the resemblance between The Goose
Girl and The Rock, is almost nonexistent.

The Religion Of Islam And Islam
ABSTRACT
The religion of Islam has become a controversial issue in today s 21st century. In spite of
excessively negative representations by Western propaganda, increasing numbers of the population
are pursuing to learn more about the wonderful religion of Islam. More frequently than not, these
people are becoming more pleasantly startled by the product of their exploration. In fact, increasing
numbers of people are embracing Islam nowadays then they did prior to the horrific attacks on
September 11th, 2001; which evoked much attention to misconceptions about Islam and Muslims.
Yet, there does endure an abundant amount of misconception and misinterpretations about Islam,
frequently invigorated by political policies which reckon their interest s to patronage Islam s
enemies. Islam is a religion which elucidates the way of life and is the second largest religion
after Christianity, with approximately one fifth of the world s population and is currently the
fastest growing religion. Muslims are existent all around the world and come from diverse
nationalities, cultures and races. However, Islam instills that all people are principally equal no
matter the differences (colour, class, culture, etc.) as long as they are peaceful and law abiding
citizens. The behaviour of particular erroneous groups or individuals outside mainstream Islam
cannot be accredited to Islamic beliefs and practices as correspondingly hostility in North Ireland or

Satire In Herman Melville s Moby Dick
Satire in Herman Melville s Moby Dick
Herman Melville s Moby Dick is a parting from the traditional conception of the Anglo European
novel in underlying the idea of the self as opposed to society, or, the human being in contrast to the
universe. Many of Melville s themes are typical of American Romanticism: the isolated self and the
difficulty of self revelation, the imperfections of human knowledge, the contrast between
immorality and virtue, and the pursuit of the truth. Although Melville intended to publish a sort of
moral parable, he rejected its unambiguity and one sided interpretation. Moby Dick portrays many
American symbols: the Nantucketer as a new type of hero; the ultimate American legacy,
democracy (a political concept which ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
His animosity towards slavery is evident in Moby Dick he often uses extensive rhetoric to unmask
the crimes related to slavery. He is focused not only on the South s persistent justification of
slavery but the fact that the majority of society of the time kept their eyes closed to the reality of it.
Satire represents a perfect literary mode for illustrating revolutions, mirroring not only the
craziness of insurgency but also the moral (d)evolution of Melville s society. Ahab s imaginary
struggle with the whale stems from speculations concerning both Melville and America as a
nation. Melville created his tale of a mimed and deranged captain in pursuit of revenge against
his frightening adversary, the White Whale, parallel to the South s weighing of revolt against the
North. By giving the satirical frame to this ideological conflict, Melville tried to unmask the
reality, thus casting aside traditional narrative forms that would conceal the truth and cover up for
what he thought was one of many major historical inconsistencies: the concurrence of democracy
and slavery in America. Accordingly, Melville s claim that Moby Dick was illustrated by his own
experience as a harpooner appears rather unseemly, since it is questionable that he ever held a
harpoon. It could be Melville s fictive depiction of himself as a different kind of harpooner a writer
who wanted to unmask the

Introduction The Blocker Burn Unit is a six bed Burn Intensive Care Unit located at the
University of Texas Medical Branch (UTMB) in Galveston. It has a long and storied history of
providing innovative burn care to its patients. The Burn unit was initially founded after a massive
explosion in Texas City Harbor that injured hundreds of people in 1944. Since inception, the unit
has dealt with disaster both fabricated and natural. In 2008, the BBU was one of only a handful
of services to remain open and operational after Hurricane Ike landed and dealt massive injury to
UTMB. The BBU not only sustained operations but also briefly expanded to provide pediatric burn
care when Shriners Burns Hospitalwas subsequently unable to reopen post hurricane. This paper
will detail the realities confronted by the BBU both currently, and in the future, with an exploration
as to those implications on fiscal outlook and provision of care.
Current Realities of the Blocker Burn Unit (BBU)
Burn Care Hospitals The American Burn Association (ABA) is the accrediting body for burn

Peace And Violence By Galtung
As I tried to conceptualize the idea of violence and what it means, physical force such as: assault,
bullying, abuse, rape, murder, war, terrorism, genocide amongst many more came to mind.
However, what is considered violence depends on the social context and the type of violence
described, because as we have learned in class so far, Violenceis Relative. So what really is
violence? There is not an easy explanation of the term without taking into consideration that
violence can not only be physical but also psychological, emotional, and verbal. I believe violence
to be a form of expressed aggression either physical, psychological, emotional, and verbal
showcased by an individual. In the paper we will discuss how violence can be viewed as... Show

depending on intentional violence or not necessarily intentional (Galtung, 1969). In my
understanding, if an act of violence such as hurting a person intentionally it could mean that it is
unacceptable. However, if an act of violence were not necessarily intentional depending on the
social context, it would be acceptable. Direct violence, which serves to physically induced threats
such as killing, bullying, sexual assault, and emotional manipulation could serve as unacceptable
violence since its intentional. The Child Beater by Ai, and Death Warrant by district judge Issac
Parker, are good representations as to how they intentionally use physical violence against a victim
to cause harm. In Child Beater , we read about how the abusive mother uses cruel punishments such
as starvation and viciously beats the child to tears (Ai, 1971). This would be a representation of
direct violence since the mother causes physical threats against the child however, it could also be
structural violence since the child is prevented from an equal access to opportunities such as food
and living conditions. In our western society, our viewpoint of the violence inflicted would be
unacceptable since it the mother is conducting child abuse, something that is seen as illegal. From
personal experience, in many hispanic families for example, their form of cultural violence
includes using different forms of punishments to discipline their children such as spankings. While
forms of punishments such as the ones described in Child Beater are unacceptable, spankings are
a form of violence that is acceptable in many homes. In the reading Death Warrant , the author also
uses direct violence and structural as he verbally implies on the warrant sign that when the suspect
is dead no one will miss him, life will go on

Catholic Marriage Vs Anglican Marriage
Marriage is the unification between a man and a woman, instituted and ordained by God, for the
lifelong relationship between one man as husband and one woman as a wife. This is what the
ritual of marriage means in Christian churches. Many people choose not to marry in the Christian
church due to the strict format you have to follow. However, based on my ethnographic results and
research, there are wide ranges of options where marriages in Catholic and Anglican religions can
be adapted to, however; it is directed by their Church authorities to a certain degree.
The introductory rites are similar in both Catholic and Anglican marriages, with some differences.

It is where a couple makes sacred promises to one another and consent to get married to that
particular person. Rings are also exchanged during this time. This richly symbolic action seals
commitment to one another. The giving of consent means you marry each other and that you
make the promise to each other to be ever loving and faithful and bear children. Vows can only
be adapted slightly. This can be the case of my interviewee who chose not to put the word obey
in their vows. The vows were chosen from guides or booklets where they can pick from a
selection of marriage vows. In Anglican weddings, the consent is asked by the celebrant,
addressing the groom and then the bride to love, comfort, honour and protect each other. Couple
with joined hands, facing one another, then exchange vows. They should include keywords
such as to love and to cherish as long as we both live . Rings are also exchanged. My Anglican
interviewees used the church s vows and adapted it a little bit. The exchange of vows and rings
is the main feature for couples, which shows that they are now married and that they are husband
and wife. There is a limited range in changes in Christian weddings. However, there are some
options for people who want to personalise it but only to a certain degree such as the vows. The
church vows are more favourable since it consists of all the necessary things a husband and

Quiet time is very similar to time out but is different. When you use time out you remove a child

that the childis removed from others so they can calm down but isn t completely isolated from the

Public Sentiments Concerning Chinese Immigration Essay
Public Sentiments Concerning Chinese Immigration In 1852, there were over 20,000 Chinese
immigrants living in California (Franks). Americans reacted very negatively to this influx, and their
negative sentiments were made apparent in the California Supreme Court s People v. Hall verdict,
which rendered Chinese testimony unreliable. Then, in 1882, President Chester Arthur signed the
Chinese Exclusion Act, a law that prohibited Chinese laborers from entering the United States
(Foner, 651). From the 1850s up to the Exclusion Act of 1882, Americans felt increasingly negative
sentiments towards the Chinese. As illustrated through newspaper and magazine depictions along

underlying perception that the Chinese were an infestation that were negatively influencing and

Digital Savvy Equals Excessive Use of Technology Essay
Digital Savvy Equals Excessive Use of Technology As a relatively affluent and highly educated
group of minorities, it is not surprising that Asian Americans are heavy influencers in the digital and
media spaces. Since many Asians actually came from countries with higher penetration of digital
technology, they are very fond of using the latest and greatest gadgets on the market. According to a
report that was published by the Nielsen Company in 2012, Asian Americans are digital pioneers ,
who adopt technology earlier and faster than any other minority group, and have higher rates of
smartphone use, online video consumption and Internet connectivity (Nielsen, 2012). As a result, it

Influenced by deep rooted cultures, traditional Asian parents are typically authoritative, strict and
overprotecting, with unaffectionate and implicit communication styles. In addition, language and
acculturation gaps, busy schedules, and economic necessities have also contributed to the various
parent children conflicts, family tensions and lack of communication that exist in Asian American
families. In general, Asian immigrant and refugee families often face difficulties that relate to their
migration experience and the ongoing adjustment to the American lifestyle and culture. Often
times, children in immigration and refugee families learn the language and acculturate faster than
their parents, and their adoption of American values and behaviors may conflict with those of their
parents (Xia, Do, Xie, 2013). Under these circumstances, the ability and tendency of children to
have good and emotional conversations with their parents are minimal. In addition, every member
in a typical Asian American family have an extremely busy schedule, which leaves very little time

Black Woman Thesis
The Black Woman: Mule of the Earth Introduction: My topic for my Term Paper Proposal is 19th
Century Womanhood s affect on the 21st Century Black Woman. I chose this topic because as a
man in society, I almost never put myself in the shoes of a woman, and as a Black man in society,
I have failed to relate to the Black women s experience and to acknowledge the experience that
defines how America views her. And after completing the Gendered Resistance in the Antebellum

They are subject to a higher chance of contracting certain diseases, being the victims of
economic, educational and emotional disparities more than any other American population as
well. Black women are also stereotyped for being loud mouthed, hypersexualized, cantankerous,
having many children, hopelessly single and being stubborn and overly independent in today s
society. Significance: Black women are easily considered one of the most severely marginalized
groups in the United States because not only did they have to combat being enslaved which
encoded a heavy deal of oppression on its own they also had to fight the term Jezebel which was
a way of creating a huge gap between white women and black women. This placed Black enslaved
women at the absolute bottom of food chain. A woman which then, naturally defaulted to one of
European descent was considered to lie somewhere on the spectrum having more authority than a
child but not nearly as much as a man. The black woman was so far removed that she was
essentially considered nothing more than an animal. The Jezebel was the mule of the earth. A
saying that become popularized in the novel Their Eyes Were Watching God by Zora Neale
Hurston. Essentially, it meant that the constructs of a dominant white society and the exclusivity
meant that the Black women s purpose was to bear the brunt of society s harshest treatment. The

Ethanol Fuel
Scientists are constantly looking for new and more efficient alternatives for fuel. Not only are these
for environmental purposes, but because of depleting fuel levels caused by over consumption. One
common substitute for fuel commonly ??? made of crude oil or petroleum is ethanol fuel. This fuel,
also know as ethyl alcohol, is created by the fermentation and distillation of corn. There are three
main advantages and disadvantages when contemplating the use of this alternative fuel.
First, although not popular in North America, it is possible to run cars on fuel containing pure
ethanol. This is evident with ethanol derived from the readily available sugarcane in Brazil.
Manufacturing vehicles that run on one hundred percent ethanol ... Show more content on

Primarily, ethanol containing fuels sold commercially are almost always mixed with gasoline. These
gasoline ethanol blends either contain only ten percent ethanol or eighty five percent ethanol and
are only compatible with cars that contain special fuel systems. So although reducing, ethanol is not
eliminating the use of petroleum in transportation. Next, another factor making ethanol
undesirable is its fuel efficiency and availability. Approximately one third more ethanol is
necessary to travel the same distance as gasoline and fueling stations are much less prevalent.
MORE SPARSE?. So, while initially the fuel cost is lower than that of pure gasoline, consumers
are usually spending the same amount for fuel. The similar cost makes the hassle to find these
fuel stations less justified worthwhile?? for consumers. Finally, if ethanol use and production
becomes more extensive, it could affect global food and water supplies. More crops and farmland
would be converted to produce ethanol, leaving less for food consumption. This would not only
increase the use of pesticides and fertilizers but reduce water availability due to this nutrient
needy? crop. This increased use of pesticides and fertilizers contributes to water and soil
contamination with runoff, including lake, river, and drinking water. With reduced crops and fewer
water supplies, prices of foods containing corn could

Sarah Orne Jewett began writing at an early age as she was inspired by, The Pearl of Orr s Island
written by Harriet Beecher Stowe. Jewett began writing in the style of the author of her
inspiration and thus fell in love with the style of writing that encapsulated nearly every author of
her time, local color writing. Local color writing is a style of writing that became popular just after
the Civil War. Many writers began writing with a focus on the way of life and nature in their direct
surrounding areas and regions. As mentioned by The Norton Anthology: American Literature
Volume 2, local color writing embodies the depiction of, ...the topographies, people, speech patterns,
and modes of life of the nation s distinctive regions (412).... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Each of these individually would not make up color writing but once they are all pieced together
they create an environment so familiar to Jewett and those who know the coast of Maine well.
Jewett writes the story as if the land is capable of enchantment and the reader gets that feel with
each description of the land. This too is a crucial aspect of local color, specifically when it
comes to satisfying the topography category. While each description of the land may not
entirely be specific to Maine, it is their author that constructs such a combination that the land
comes alive and is a crucial piece of the story just as crucial as the characters themselves. The
characters in A White Heron are not entirely specific to Maine, but their speech patterns as well
as their way of life are for sure. The first example of how the characters add to the local color of
the story is when the ornithologist first meets Sylvia. The stranger first met Sylvia out in nature
while Sylvia was walking with her grandmother s cow. The stranger was not in a place that he
knew well and asked Sylvia about where the road is. Sylvia helped the stranger because he had
lost his way. This is a great example of how A White Heron is local color writing. Sylvia
represents her region of Maine and the stranger is just a representation of people from outside of the
Maine region that Sylvia hails from. Even though Sylvia is much younger and much less
experienced in the wild than the ornithologist,

Devices and technologies like Charge Coupled Devices (CCDs) camera, Closed Circuit Television
(CCTV), thermal camera, High Definition (HD) camera and night vision are widely used in video
surveillance to gather information and to observe people, events and activities [10]. At present
there is an increased desire and need in automated video surveillance application intended for
evaluating human behaviors.
Human detection in video is complicated due several factors such as variable appearance of people,
camera positions, and wide range of person poses, illumination variation, brightness, backgrounds,
contrast level and human occlusions [ ]. Different people perform the same action differently and
the same person performs the same action differently at different times. Due to huge diversity of
human body size, appearance, shape and human actions to perform automatically recognize actions
are very challenging [12]. Steps for processing a video are video segmentation, motion detection,
background modeling, foreground segmentation, object classification, motion tracking, activity
recognition, and camera handoff and data fusion [].
The main objective of this paper is to provide a review of human behavior analysis in video
surveillance. The review is not exhaustive, but gives an overview of the major steps involved in

Essay about Aspects of Probation
There are times when almost everyone wonders exactly what the purpose of probation is, what
kinds of conditions can be imposed if someone is put on probation, and what roles the probation
officer and the court systems play in the scheme of things. If you know someone that is on
probation it may not hurtto know a little bit about the way it works and that is exactly what we will
be talking about here.
Probation is one of the least restrictive penalties among the alternatives confronting a sentencing
judge. Probation is the conditional release of an individual by the court after he has been found
guilty of the crime charged. In the case of probation then, the individual has not been sentenced to
prison, although he may, in fact, have ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

the rhythm of his life.
The number of conditions that a judge can impose upon a person on probation is amazing and
there are some that make some of us wonder how they can actually make a person live a life that
is not theirs. There are many conditions of probation that a judge or a probation officer can impose
upon the probationer. Some of the conditions that can be imposed include: supporting his
dependents and meeting any other family needs, paying a fine or making restitution to the victim of
the crime that was committed, keeping a job if they have a suitable one and if not training for or
getting one that is suitable.
There are some conditions that are imposed because of the offense that the probationer was found
guilty of, for instance, refrain from engaging in a specific occupation, business, or profession
bearing a reasonably direct relationship to the conduct constituting the offense, or engage in such a
specified occupation, business, or profession only to a stated degree or under stated circumstances;
refrain from frequenting specified kinds of places or from associating unnecessarily with specified
persons.
In a lot of cases conditions imposed include refraining from the excessive use of alcohol, or use of
any narcotic drug or other controlled substance without a prescription from a licensed

possibilities that await her.

The Role of Women in the 7th and 8th Centuries in Ireland
В‘Legally incompetent and useless was the term that defined women in the 7th and 8th century in
Ireland. It would be wrong to exaggerate the status of women in early Irish society a society which
was patriarchal and in which every aspect of social, legal, political and cultural life was dominated
by men.# At this time in Ireland, people genuinely believed that every individual was born without
genderand it was women who failed to develop both socially and physiologically, thus making them
weaker than men. Although it cannot be denied that women did have a certain freedom within the
law regarding marriageand divorce, the role of women, primarily in this era was to follow the

A man was felt to purchase his bride in what was known as the В‘bride price (coibche) in which

public recognition that the woman s kin had agreed to the relationship.# If the marriage broke

early Irish society, great stress was put on bridal virginity and the consequences of a woman
having lost her virginity prior to her marriage could mean financial loss, humiliation or even

Irish society. There was indefinitely a financial burden on the family of the lower class partner and

Ferrin s Process Of Inductive Bible Study
Ferrin s process of inductive Bible study takes on a relational approach that consists of three
essential parts or phases titled Foundation, Framing, and Finish Work. The structured methods
encompass studying a book of the Bible and internalizing it rather than just memorizing the words
(p. 3). The author diligently explains how that through the devoted application of all phases
individuals and group Biblestudy participants are sure to fall in love with Gods Word (p. 3). Ferrin
presents and or describes Scripture internalizationas taking in the truth and then applying it to
everyday life or living. Ferrin pointed out that the benefits of understanding biblical messages
book by book include the Living Word of God becoming a reality within persons that grow more
enjoyable and rewarding as time comes and goes.
On a personal note, I practice reading the Bible through the process of observation. For instance,
I practice learning what to look for in the text; interpreting the meaning; I prayerfully seek God
and through the power of the Holy Spirit I can apply what I read. Nevertheless, I feel Ferrin s
process of inductive Bible study might prove more productive and edifying both personally and in
a group.
Moving forward and upon careful consideration, I find that Ferrin s four step building a house
analogy approach might help me to get to know a book of the Bible and all of its elements. For
example, during the foundation phase the background study of the author,

Rock And Roll Essay
Rock n Roll began and evolved around the late 1940 s and 1950 s time frame. There were many
groups that participated in the creation and origin of Rock n Roll, however the two primary
groups were rhythm and blues and country music. The origins of rock n roll are often described
in a way that could be represented by an algebraic formula: r b + c w = r r (Garofalo Waksman,
2016, p. 56). While the formula is rather simplistic, it ignores the many groups of individuals,
social and cultural influences that impacted the formation of Rock n Roll. As Rolling Stone s
Robert Palmer (1990) noted:
The clichГ© is that rock roll was a melding of country music and blues, and if you are talking
about, say, Chuck Berry or Elvis Presley, the description, though simplistic, does fit. But the black

forms.
The Bo Diddley beat . . . was Afro Caribbean in derivation. The most durable . . . bass riff in
Fifties rock roll . . . had been pinched . . . from a Cuban son record. The screaming, athletic
saxophone playing . . . was straight out of Forties big band swing. . Traditional Mexican rhythms

Analysis Of Van Eyck s Arnolfini Wedding
Comparison Visual Analysis In the previous writings I wrote about Hendrick van der Burch, An
Officer and a Standing Woman . I wrote on how well he composed the figures, the use of color and
light throughout the image, and the amount of symbolism. I ended the paper saying I will compare
this painting to another, and I chose Van Eyck s Arnolfini Wedding. The contrast and the
similarities are great between the two the artist. First of all they re both oil painters and from
Northern Europe, specifically Netherlands. Although they re from the same location, the both lived
in two different time eras being 200 years apart from another. Starting with the composition of the
figures of Hendrick s paintingwe see three human figures and an animal. The male figure is
sitting down on a chair slouched drinking white wine, while wearing his officer uniform. The
other two female figures appear to look like servants; one standing next to the officer, and the
other in the background in another room sewing clothes. To compare this to Van Eyck s painting
this is similar. In the foreground they both have a man and woman together, both being the main
focus of the painting. The use of space in both of the images are quite beautiful. In one image we
have three figures and an animal, and in the other one it two figures and an animal. Hendrick
added another room to his image showing that it s a big room, while Van Eyck did something that
was pure marvelous. He added a small mirror to the back wall

The Effect of Temperature on the Light Transmission on the Permeability of a Beetroot Cell
When the bathing solution is between 3В°C and 60В°C the light transmission decreases. The light
transmission decreases more rapidly when the bathing solution is over 60В°C. The amount of
beetroot pigment released does increase as the bathing temperature increases. The light
transmission average was 85.8% when the bathing solution was 3В°C so less pigment was
released. At 80В°C the light transmission was 33.0% which shows that more pigment was released
from the beetroot cell at a higher temperature.

It would be difficult to keep the temperature constant for this amount of time so we put the boiling
tube with the bathing solution into a beaker of water at the required temperature. This insulted the
bathing solution so that it stayed at the right temperature for the full 2 minutes. Some groups did
not do this so over the 2 minutes the temperature was not exact. If the bathing solution was not at
the correct temperature the results may not be as reliable. Using an electronic thermostatic water
bath would keep the temperature of the bathing solution constant during the 2 minutes and therefore
the results would be more reliable.
For the lowest temperature, 3В°C, we used ice. The highest light transmission is 97% and the
lowest is 77%. This large range could be because as th experiment went on the temperature of the
ice increased. The 97% could have been measured in the beginning and the 77% measure at the
end. The results for 3В°C could be taken again all at the same time. The results taken at 20В°C
have the smallest range. This could be because it was the closest to room temperature and therefore
easier to maintain the bathing solution

Natural Disasters because they could destroy all of us or all our homes and important things we

External Environment Factors Affecting The British Airways...
INTRODUCTION.
At the present time, the airline industry faces many cost pressures. The industry has made
remarkable achievements in improving its efficiency. But cost pressures continue, from record high
fuel prices to unjustified increases in charges from monopolistic airports, to further taxes imposed
by governments (industryspotlight.org.uk). Higher costs inevitably lead to higher prices for airline
passengers. Aviation is vital part of the United Kingdom. It is not only crucial in sponsoring almost
1 million jobs and ВЈ50 billion of GDP, providing around ВЈ8.7 billion in taxes to the Treasury of
the country, but aviation is also fundamental to the success of economic benefits from air transport

from our schools as a waste of time and money. True that even if schools don t allow fast food in
schools, kids will still sneak it in. For high schoolers who leave campus for lunch go to fast food
chains anyway, and the schools cannot necessarily control that. It isn t necessarily the school s job
to control what the kids eat, ultimately it comes down to the parents teaching the children healthy
eating habits. Many people see it like that, but as human beings shouldn t we do the right thing no
matter what the circumstances? So yes, you cannot completely ban something from schools, but it
s worth a shot even just to show that we

Soup Kitchen Research Paper
Dear teachers, my group and I have come to the conclusion that after a hardworking, stressful
term everyone in our class deserves to relax at least for one day. Firstly I would like to thank you
for being able to have the opportunity to write this proposal. For our soup kitchen we have
decided to choose movies and food, because from the survey that we gave out to the class the
main interest was movies and food. Being able to relax while watching a good movie and eating
delicious food would certainly make a lot of people happy, after all who doesn t enjoy movies
and food? Our soup kitchen will run throughout the entire day. To run our soup kitchen it will cost
no more then $25 $20 and we would only need a TV, movies, food and chairs my group

Distorted Perceptions in F. Scott Fitzgerald s Tender is the Night
Any visitor to the French Riviera in the mid 1920s, the setting of F. Scott Fitzgerald s Tender is
the Night, would describe Dr. Richard Diver as a charming, respected, well mannered physician.
Dick is a noble man who has dedicated his life to the health and protection of his beloved wife
without thought to himself. Furthermore, he gives wonderful parties and is a reliable source of
help to any friend in need. In fact, to be included in Dick Diver s world for a while was a remarkable
experience (Fitzgerald, Tender, 27).
Under this façade of composure, however, lies a tormented personality. The stresses in Dick s life
are numerous, as he deals with Nicole s ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Later, while on the shore with his family, Dick decides to attempt a foolish trick involving a
speed boat, inspired by the closeness of Rosemary s exciting youth (282). This desperately insecure
need for external validation is characteristic of a prepubescent level of maturity which Dick surely
should have overcome long ago.
As his descent continues, Dick is even less convincingly able to act like the mature professional.
He gets drunk more frequently and is involved in a violent fight with some taxi drivers, and later
he inadvertently insults Mary North s in laws, showing he has lost some of his previously
impeccable manners. Even his mentally ill wife can see the results of his behavior, telling him,
You re a coward! You ve made a failure of your life and you want to blame it on me (301). Dick has
seemingly given up on acting like a grown up and all of its difficulties in favor of a more
immature, morally ignorant lifestyle.
Not only does Dick Diver s longing for youthful innocence show in his own youthful behavior, but
also in his attraction to much younger women, both paternally and sensually. His relationships with
Rosemary, his children, Nicole, and others reflect almost incestuous motives, a result of Dick s
fascination with immaturity (Stanton, 118). Starting with relatively unimportant evidence, it is
reported that after the divorce, Dick moved to upstate New York and

with most extreme number of sensor nodes in each cluster could be accomplished. The weight

3.2.4 FoVs: Overlapped Field of View Authors proposed a clustering algorithmfor wireless sight

algorithm, and grew new clustering plans for secure localization of sensor networks. Authors
likewise found that the recently proposed approaches have great exhibitions on limitation exactness
and the discovery rate of malevolent guide signals. In this plan, malicious guide signals are sifted
through as per the clustering consequence of crossing points of area reference circles. Authors
utilized a voting on grid (VOGC) strategy rather than customary clustering calculations to lessen the
computational cost and found that the plan can give great limitation exactness and recognize a high
level of malicious beacon signals. 3.2.8 BARC: Battery Aware Reliable Clustering In this clustering
algorithm authors utilized numerical battery demonstrate for execution in WSNs. With this battery
show authors proposed another Battery Aware Reliable Clustering (BARC) calculation for WSNs.

Comparing Philbrick s View Of Different Authors Contributions
Despite Philip s tremendous experience with selling land to the English, Philbrick unfairly
portrays the king as as an indecisive ruler and poor decision maker. For over a decade the
Wampanoag ruler had been the intermediary for native land sales to English proprietors. As
Philbrick explains, any Pilgrim man wishing to obtain native land was required to make the
purchase through the official Plymouth court, thereby preventing unfair sales (like alcohol for
land) that the Indians could later dispute. One would imagine that in dealing only with the officials,
as opposed to the men purchasing the land, Philip would be granted greater protection from any one
of the potential abuses that he could suffer from. But instead, Philbrick recounts how, by
monopolizing the purchase of Indian lands, Plymouth officials kept the prices they paid artificially
low (171).... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Philip, who had his own animal herd, would have been aware of the uncontrollable factors that
were also at play, such as the unhappiness which arose when English cows and horses grazed on
Indian corn. Even as he assumed leadership thirteen years before the war, Philip would have been
in tune with the inevitable and growing threat English settlements posed to his people. Yet instead
of attempting to appease the Indians by granting them permission to go on wild, ineffective raids,
which would have only motivated the English, Philip waited until he could gather an effective,
armed, multi tribe force before he waged war. By delaying his response and refusing to allow
personal vendettas be the spark for battle, tactful Philip is inaccurately described by

How Toys Play A Role On Gender Socialization
Girls and boys both grow up being socialized on what is normal and unusual for their gender.
Toys are a prominent factor in this socialization, because they are typically presented for one
gender and are unacceptable for the other. To assess how toys play a role in gender socialization,
I made a trip to Toys R Us in College Station and was surprised by how the store was organized.
The first thing that went through my mind when walking into the store was to look for the Girls
and Boys signs that would indicate to me which section was for which gender. There weren t any
signs though! Toys R Us had their aisles organized by categories such as Arts Crafts, Travel
Systems, Learning Education, Bikes Wheels, Sports, and Fun. In order... Show more content on

This indicated that cars are for boys and thus shouldn t be what peaks girls interest. The gender
neutral toys on the other hand were marketed less boldly. These toys were more about creating
and learning. They consisted of puzzles and board games for the most part. The colors were a
wide range and if there were pictures there would usually be both boys and girls playing
together. By looking through each aisle, I was able to determine what toys were presented for
each age specific gender. The infant and toddler toys started off with not much difference and
were gender neutral for the most part. They were even in the same aisle. The toys were generally
plush animals, entertainment puzzles, and simple objects. As the ages moved up to pre school
there was more difference in what toys were for boys and what toys were for girls. The toys for
boys were more vehicles while the girl toys were more play scenarios. This fit the description
given in the textbook that, by the time they are 12 to 18 months old, girls prefer...dolls, cooking
sets, dress up clothes, and soft toys, whereas boys choose vehicles, sports equipment, and tools
(Etaugh Bridges p 77). Though the toys were varied, they still remained in the same aisle. The
major separation of girl and boy toys began with the young school age kids. The girls section was
focused on dress up, Barbies, and My Little Pony, whereas the boys

  • 2. Business Communication Essay example Business communication needs to become interpersonal again. No matter how we believe our human forms came into existence, we were built to need personal contact and function best with face to face communication. As children, we desired comfort from touch, a hug from our mothers. As teenagers, we held hands with our boyfriend or girlfriend. As adults in the workforce, we still need to feel that connection and comfort with our families and the people we work with. As Susan RoAne (2008), owner of a speaking, consulting, and coaching business, discusses one way we feel this connection is through getting to know and building trust by communicating in person. Through this interpersonal interaction, we not only feel more comfortable around... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For the greatest success of the business, employees need interpersonal communication to connect with their co workers. A leadership expert, John C. Maxwell (2010) says: Connecting goes beyond words. (p. 41). Physically being in the same room, verbally speaking thoughts, engaging in eye contact, and being able to see nonverbal responses are all important and add to a person s understanding of the message being communicated and feeling a connection. Overall, communicating face to face is more natural for employees. An employee knows who is hearing what they are saying and seeing their nonverbal gestures. The employee can either get immediate feedback whether or not the person understands or agrees or disagrees. The communication does not have to be formatted as it does on paper. An employee should still present themselves professionally, but communicating face to face is a process, instead of format. Through in person communication, employees will be able to not only build needed connections, but relationships and trust with co workers in the business. Maslow s hierarchy of needs is like a staircase, a person needs to satisfy the lower stairs to easily reach and fulfill the higher staircases. Every year about over a million people die due to tuberculosis and even more are infected. A person in contact with an infected individual can easily put themselves at risks of getting TB. Due to the emergence of human immunodeficiency virus (HIV), tuberculosisinfections commenced to increment more rapidly. A person with HIV has an impotent immune system which is not able to fight infections such as tuberculosis. There are many ways to diagnose, prevent and treat the further spread of this disease. Sputum tests may be required for testing if the chest x ray reveals signs of TB. Tuberculosis can spread by contagious airborne droplets that are passed on easily through close contact with a person who has active or untreated TB. As a person coughs, sneezes, or interacts, it can relinquish infectious droplets into the air. Once a person inhales the infectious droplet (bacillus), it settles in the upper airways. Bacteria in droplets that bypass the mucociliary system and reach the alveoli are expeditiously circumvented and engulfed by alveolar macrophages, the most abundant immune effector cells present in alveolar spaces (Knechel, 2009). These macrophages are a component of the immune system that fights to destroy the mycobacteria to obviate infection. The outcome is essentially determined by the quality of the host bulwarks and the balance that occurs between host bulwarks and the invading mycobacteria (Knechel, 2009). If the alveolar macrophage fails to overcome the inhaled mycobacteria, the bacteria will replicate until the macrophage lysis. As the monocytes are magnetized to the infection site, it then separates into macrophages and consumes the free bacilli. The mycobacteria then multiply within the macrophages causing it to become infected. The infected macrophages may then be transported to the lymph nodes where it can easily reach the blood stream. After two to three weeks of infection, the helper T cells are ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Risky Play Injury Some types of play involve taking risks, which can lead to unintentional injury. Although there is the factor of risk, these forms of play are vital to children s developmental process (Brussoni, Olsen, Pike Sleet, 2012). The main type of play likely to lead to injury is physical play, described by Brussoni, et al. (2012) as rough and tumble play (p. 3136). Physical play can involve over the top rowdy activities that have the potential to cause injury(Brussoni, et al., 2012). A child benefits from this kind of play as it helps them to form friendships, develop their mental and intellectual capabilities and learn their limits amongst many other important areas of their development. If a child s opportunity to take part in risky play is... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Educational training programmes regarding childhood safety are an important method for parents to help prevent and reduce the risk of unintentional injuries in children (Smithson, Garside Pearson, 2011). A study conducted by Brannen (1992, as cited in Smithson, et al., 2011) showed an outcome that parents who participated in educational programmes in the community, regarding home safety, were less likely to have a child obtain an injury. This was compared to parents who received this information shortly after the birth of their child, resulting in a higher risk of injury occurring to their child as this information was less likely to be recalled (Smithson, et al., 2011). Considering this, parents should learn to recognise the significance of removing hazards in the child s play environment but still leaving some risks in order for them to gain important skills (Brussoni, et al., 2012). This allows the child to be involved in risky play, but in a more controlled environment, which still has a minor factor of risk. This gives the child an opportunity to assess a situation and choose the appropriate course of action concerning that situation, therefor giving the child the opportunity to learn and improve on problem solving skills (Brussoni, et al., ... Each primary accomplishes a different goal, which can range from establishing a favorite party to establishing a favorite candidate. After reviewing the four main types of primary systems in the American Democratic system, the system that provides the most benefits is the open primary system. A major benefit of the open primary system is that the voters are able to vote for their favorite candidate rather than their favorite party. Trafalgar House Essay ANSWER As the new purchaser of Trafalgar house, title to which was already registered, Kenneth must register his purchase as established by s. 27(2) (a) of the Land Registration Act 2002 (LRA) . Section 27(1) of the LRA states that a disposition of a registered estate or registered charge is required to be registered and it does not operate at law until the requirements are met. In addition, section 29 of the LRA states that a new registered proprietor who gives value takes the land subject to any unregistered interest which override under the provisions of Schedule 3 of the LRA 2002 . The purchaser is also bound by an interest which has been protected by an entry on the register or by notice or restriction. As such, it is important to establish whether Kenneth is subject to any third party rights. (a)Philip The question here is whether Philip s express trust is binding on Kenneth and, if so, whether it is a legal or equitable interest. Philip is a beneficiary, he has a beneficial interest on the house. One may argue that Philip has an equitable interest to the house as it does not fall within those listed as legal interest under s.1(2) of the Law of Property Act 1925(LPA) . Impressionism focused mainly on the more modern world, but specifically targeted in the more urban parts of Paris. Impressionism originated from a group of French artists that created a style of art that was more likely for them to use. The subject of an impressionist artist was primarily composed of contemporary landscapes and depictions of modern art. Impressionists painted in a way that depicted light in the paintings as a form of movement. Impressionismartist preferred to paint outdoors rather than inside, to focus on the landscape and enjoyed to paint the everyday life of people. One of the more breakthrough artist during the Impressionism movement was Camille Pissarro. Pissarro s style of art left a lasting impression on the followers of the impressionist movement. Later in the nineteenth Century, the era of Post Impressionismwas introduced to the world. The post impressionism movement paved the way for the development of more modern arts. The artwork of Post impressionism heavily rebelled against the style and structure of impressionism. The style of the post impressionism movement was stressed throughout the significant increase of emotion and focus on more symbolic subject matter compared to the impressionism period. • 11. Satire In Herman Melville s Moby Dick Satire in Herman Melville s Moby Dick Herman Melville s Moby Dick is a parting from the traditional conception of the Anglo European novel in underlying the idea of the self as opposed to society, or, the human being in contrast to the universe. Many of Melville s themes are typical of American Romanticism: the isolated self and the difficulty of self revelation, the imperfections of human knowledge, the contrast between immorality and virtue, and the pursuit of the truth. Although Melville intended to publish a sort of moral parable, he rejected its unambiguity and one sided interpretation. Moby Dick portrays many American symbols: the Nantucketer as a new type of hero; the ultimate American legacy, democracy (a political concept which ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... His animosity towards slavery is evident in Moby Dick he often uses extensive rhetoric to unmask the crimes related to slavery. He is focused not only on the South s persistent justification of slavery but the fact that the majority of society of the time kept their eyes closed to the reality of it. Satire represents a perfect literary mode for illustrating revolutions, mirroring not only the craziness of insurgency but also the moral (d)evolution of Melville s society. Ahab s imaginary struggle with the whale stems from speculations concerning both Melville and America as a nation. Melville created his tale of a mimed and deranged captain in pursuit of revenge against his frightening adversary, the White Whale, parallel to the South s weighing of revolt against the North. By giving the satirical frame to this ideological conflict, Melville tried to unmask the reality, thus casting aside traditional narrative forms that would conceal the truth and cover up for what he thought was one of many major historical inconsistencies: the concurrence of democracy and slavery in America. Accordingly, Melville s claim that Moby Dick was illustrated by his own experience as a harpooner appears rather unseemly, since it is questionable that he ever held a harpoon. It could be Melville s fictive depiction of himself as a different kind of harpooner a writer who wanted to unmask the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 14. Peace And Violence By Galtung As I tried to conceptualize the idea of violence and what it means, physical force such as: assault, bullying, abuse, rape, murder, war, terrorism, genocide amongst many more came to mind. However, what is considered violence depends on the social context and the type of violence described, because as we have learned in class so far, Violenceis Relative. So what really is violence? There is not an easy explanation of the term without taking into consideration that violence can not only be physical but also psychological, emotional, and verbal. I believe violence to be a form of expressed aggression either physical, psychological, emotional, and verbal showcased by an individual. In the paper we will discuss how violence can be viewed as... In my understanding, if an act of violence such as hurting a person intentionally it could mean that it is unacceptable. However, if an act of violence were not necessarily intentional depending on the social context, it would be acceptable. Direct violence, which serves to physically induced threats such as killing, bullying, sexual assault, and emotional manipulation could serve as unacceptable violence since its intentional. The Child Beater by Ai, and Death Warrant by district judge Issac Parker, are good representations as to how they intentionally use physical violence against a victim to cause harm. In Child Beater , we read about how the abusive mother uses cruel punishments such as starvation and viciously beats the child to tears (Ai, 1971). This would be a representation of direct violence since the mother causes physical threats against the child however, it could also be structural violence since the child is prevented from an equal access to opportunities such as food and living conditions. In our western society, our viewpoint of the violence inflicted would be unacceptable since it the mother is conducting child abuse, something that is seen as illegal. From personal experience, in many hispanic families for example, their form of cultural violence includes using different forms of punishments to discipline their children such as spankings. While forms of punishments such as the ones described in Child Beater are unacceptable, spankings are a form of violence that is acceptable in many homes. In the reading Death Warrant , the author also uses direct violence and structural as he verbally implies on the warrant sign that when the suspect is dead no one will miss him, life will go on ... Black women are also stereotyped for being loud mouthed, hypersexualized, cantankerous, having many children, hopelessly single and being stubborn and overly independent in today s society. Significance: Black women are easily considered one of the most severely marginalized groups in the United States because not only did they have to combat being enslaved which encoded a heavy deal of oppression on its own they also had to fight the term Jezebel which was a way of creating a huge gap between white women and black women. This placed Black enslaved women at the absolute bottom of food chain. A woman which then, naturally defaulted to one of European descent was considered to lie somewhere on the spectrum having more authority than a child but not nearly as much as a man. The black woman was so far removed that she was essentially considered nothing more than an animal. The Jezebel was the mule of the earth. A saying that become popularized in the novel Their Eyes Were Watching God by Zora Neale Hurston. Essentially, it meant that the constructs of a dominant white society and the exclusivity meant that the Black women s purpose was to bear the brunt of society s harshest treatment. Not only are these for environmental purposes, but because of depleting fuel levels caused by over consumption. One common substitute for fuel commonly ??? made of crude oil or petroleum is ethanol fuel. This fuel, also know as ethyl alcohol, is created by the fermentation and distillation of corn. There are three main advantages and disadvantages when contemplating the use of this alternative fuel. Primarily, ethanol containing fuels sold commercially are almost always mixed with gasoline. These gasoline ethanol blends either contain only ten percent ethanol or eighty five percent ethanol and are only compatible with cars that contain special fuel systems. So although reducing, ethanol is not eliminating the use of petroleum in transportation. Next, another factor making ethanol undesirable is its fuel efficiency and availability. Approximately one third more ethanol is necessary to travel the same distance as gasoline and fueling stations are much less prevalent. MORE SPARSE?. So, while initially the fuel cost is lower than that of pure gasoline, consumers are usually spending the same amount for fuel. The similar cost makes the hassle to find these fuel stations less justified worthwhile?? for consumers. Finally, if ethanol use and production becomes more extensive, it could affect global food and water supplies. More crops and farmland would be converted to produce ethanol, leaving less for food consumption. Jewett began writing in the style of the author of her inspiration and thus fell in love with the style of writing that encapsulated nearly every author of her time, local color writing. Local color writing is a style of writing that became popular just after the Civil War. Many writers began writing with a focus on the way of life and nature in their direct surrounding areas and regions. As mentioned by The Norton Anthology: American Literature Volume 2, local color writing embodies the depiction of, ...the topographies, people, speech patterns, and modes of life of the nation s distinctive regions (412).... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Each of these individually would not make up color writing but once they are all pieced together they create an environment so familiar to Jewett and those who know the coast of Maine well. Jewett writes the story as if the land is capable of enchantment and the reader gets that feel with each description of the land. This too is a crucial aspect of local color, specifically when it comes to satisfying the topography category. While each description of the land may not entirely be specific to Maine, it is their author that constructs such a combination that the land comes alive and is a crucial piece of the story just as crucial as the characters themselves. The characters in A White Heron are not entirely specific to Maine, but their speech patterns as well as their way of life are for sure. The first example of how the characters add to the local color of the story is when the ornithologist first meets Sylvia. The stranger first met Sylvia out in nature while Sylvia was walking with her grandmother s cow. The stranger was not in a place that he knew well and asked Sylvia about where the road is. Sylvia helped the stranger because he had lost his way. This is a great example of how A White Heron is local color writing. I ended the paper saying I will compare this painting to another, and I chose Van Eyck s Arnolfini Wedding. The contrast and the similarities are great between the two the artist. First of all they re both oil painters and from Northern Europe, specifically Netherlands. Although they re from the same location, the both lived in two different time eras being 200 years apart from another. Starting with the composition of the figures of Hendrick s paintingwe see three human figures and an animal. The male figure is sitting down on a chair slouched drinking white wine, while wearing his officer uniform. The other two female figures appear to look like servants; one standing next to the officer, and the other in the background in another room sewing clothes. To compare this to Van Eyck s painting this is similar. In the foreground they both have a man and woman together, both being the main focus of the painting. The use of space in both of the images are quite beautiful. In one image we have three figures and an animal, and in the other one it two figures and an animal. Trying to eliminate it from schools is a waste of time, money, and Education (Metallo). A lot of people see banning fast food from our schools as a waste of time and money. True that even if schools don t allow fast food in schools, kids will still sneak it in. It isn t necessarily the school s job to control what the kids eat, ultimately it comes down to the parents teaching the children healthy eating habits. Scott Fitzgerald s Tender is the Night Any visitor to the French Riviera in the mid 1920s, the setting of F. Scott Fitzgerald s Tender is the Night, would describe Dr. Richard Diver as a charming, respected, well mannered physician. Dick is a noble man who has dedicated his life to the health and protection of his beloved wife without thought to himself. Furthermore, he gives wonderful parties and is a reliable source of help to any friend in need. In fact, to be included in Dick Diver s world for a while was a remarkable experience (Fitzgerald, Tender, 27). Under this faГ§ade of composure, however, lies a tormented personality. Later, while on the shore with his family, Dick decides to attempt a foolish trick involving a speed boat, inspired by the closeness of Rosemary s exciting youth (282). This desperately insecure need for external validation is characteristic of a prepubescent level of maturity which Dick surely should have overcome long ago. As his descent continues, Dick is even less convincingly able to act like the mature professional. He gets drunk more frequently and is involved in a violent fight with some taxi drivers, and later he inadvertently insults Mary North s in laws, showing he has lost some of his previously impeccable manners. Even his mentally ill wife can see the results of his behavior, telling him, You re a coward! You ve made a failure of your life and you want to blame it on me (301). Dick has seemingly given up on acting like a grown up and all of its difficulties in favor of a more immature, morally ignorant lifestyle. Not only does Dick Diver s longing for youthful innocence show in his own youthful behavior, but also in his attraction to much younger women, both paternally and sensually. His relationships with Rosemary, his children, Nicole, and others reflect almost incestuous motives, a result of Dick s fascination with immaturity (Stanton, 118). • 44. Comparing Philbrick s View Of Different Authors Contributions Despite Philip s tremendous experience with selling land to the English, Philbrick unfairly portrays the king as as an indecisive ruler and poor decision maker. For over a decade the Wampanoag ruler had been the intermediary for native land sales to English proprietors. As Philbrick explains, any Pilgrim man wishing to obtain native land was required to make the purchase through the official Plymouth court, thereby preventing unfair sales (like alcohol for land) that the Indians could later dispute. One would imagine that in dealing only with the officials, as opposed to the men purchasing the land, Philip would be granted greater protection from any one of the potential abuses that he could suffer from. But instead, Philbrick recounts how, by monopolizing the purchase of Indian lands, Plymouth officials kept the prices they paid artificially low (171).... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Yet instead of attempting to appease the Indians by granting them permission to go on wild, ineffective raids, which would have only motivated the English, Philip waited until he could gather an effective, armed, multi tribe force before he waged war. • 45. How Toys Play A Role On Gender Socialization Girls and boys both grow up being socialized on what is normal and unusual for their gender. Toys are a prominent factor in this socialization, because they are typically presented for one gender and are unacceptable for the other. To assess how toys play a role in gender socialization, I made a trip to Toys R Us in College Station and was surprised by how the store was organized. The first thing that went through my mind when walking into the store was to look for the Girls and Boys signs that would indicate to me which section was for which gender. There weren t any signs though! Toys R Us had their aisles organized by categories such as Arts Crafts, Travel Systems, Learning Education, Bikes Wheels, Sports, and Fun. In order... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This indicated that cars are for boys and thus shouldn t be what peaks girls interest. The gender neutral toys on the other hand were marketed less boldly. These toys were more about creating and learning. They consisted of puzzles and board games for the most part. The colors were a wide range and if there were pictures there would usually be both boys and girls playing together. By looking through each aisle, I was able to determine what toys were presented for each age specific gender. The infant and toddler toys started off with not much difference and were gender neutral for the most part. They were even in the same aisle. The toys were generally plush animals, entertainment puzzles, and simple objects. As the ages moved up to pre school there was more difference in what toys were for boys and what toys were for girls. The toys for boys were more vehicles while the girl toys were more play scenarios. This fit the description given in the textbook that, by the time they are 12 to 18 months old, girls prefer...dolls, cooking sets, dress up clothes, and soft toys, whereas boys choose vehicles, sports equipment, and tools (Etaugh Bridges p 77). Though the toys were varied, they still remained in the same aisle. The major separation of girl and boy toys began with the young school age kids. The girls section was focused on dress up, Barbies, and My Little Pony, whereas the boys ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
