The Influence Of Departmentalization On Elementary School...
Summary
A review of the research literature showed that confounding definitions related to elementary school
instructional organization, limited research, and contradictory and inconclusive findings contribute to
the difficulty of determining the impact of departmentalization on elementary school students. Also
problematic are stakeholders influences on instructional organization decisions and how these
decisions are viewed in terms of institutional factors such as rules, structures, and social and
professional norms.
Confounding definitions and misrepresentations make choices difficult, and force many school
districts to create their own definitions of terms. The failure to establish static definitions continues to
complicate the debate. Those that support the benefits of the self contained classroom site optimized
individualization, time flexibility, and coordination across content areas. The advocates of
departmentalization focus on the need for the teachers specialized knowledge for increased student
engagement and content mastery. They claim it is unrealistic to expect elementary teachers to have the
specialized knowledge that is required to facilitate instruction.
Research indicates that departmentalized instruction helps students transition to the middle school
format, and that grade level instructional teams promote teacher retention. Teacher retention is
associated with departmentalization was shown to have a positive impact on student achievement. The

Battle of Yorktown Essay

Battle Analysis
ROTC
Siege of Yorktown The Revolutionary War was a dreadful war leaving almost 70,000 U.S. and British
soldiers dead or wounded. The war lasted eight years with America, France, Spain, and the Dutch on
one side and Great Britain on the other. On October 19, 1781 the last major land battle took place, the
Battle of Yorktown. Similar to other battles in the Revolutionary War, the Americans were fighting for
independence from the British and as threats from them kept increasing, the situation did not get any
better. George Washington is recognized to having inspired the victory achieved over the British
forces. The tactics, skills, courage and the collaboration George Washington sought with the ... Show

The actually fighting started in 1775 in Massachusetts when British soldiers were ordered to
confiscate arsenal being stored there.
Leading up the battle of Yorktown, in February, 1781, Major General Marquis de Lafayette was
ordered to take his Continental troops to Virginia. About a month later General Cornwallis and his
army had entered Virginia believing that if the American forces had resistance, he would have victory
against the Americans and the French. Later that year in August on 1 2, 1781 Cornwallis and his army
set up at Gloucester point, hoping to use it as a base for supply and weapons. Couple of weeks later,
Washington heard about the base and sent a large army to destroy Cornwallis base. A month later on
September 14, 1781, French General Rochambeau and General Washington arrived, and sent 400
French soldiers and 400 American soldiers to storm the British redoubt. On October 19, 1781, being
taken under heavy from the Americans and the French, Major General Cornwallis realized that he was
short of troops and decided to escape Yorktown before surrendering. Making the move to escape, a
sudden storm from the Americans and French ruined his evacuation plan and Cornwallis was forced to
surrender, due to the lack troops and supplies.
On October 19, 1781, the British troops under Cornwallis surrendered to Washington s combined
forces, thus ending the major battle in the American Revolution. After the surrender of the British, all

Cause And Effects Of Smartphone Addiction
5 6 7 Introduction: The smartphone is still a fairly new invention and is constantly being developed
and improved. This device has integrated itself into our culture and is slowly becoming essential to
our lives. The younger generation known as Millennials in the age range of 18 35 years old check their
cell phones on average about 75.6 times a day (Soto et al., 2017). This number is exceptionally high
when compared to the older generation who only check their phone around 23 times a day, according
to the same research. This paper will cover cell phone addiction and its effects on the college students
lifestyle. Addiction in this case is tied with the substance use criteria in The Diagnostic and Statistical
Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM 5). In the criteria it states that substance use is a pathological
pattern of behaviors related to use of the substance. Extremely high smartphone use can lead to these
behaviors where dependency is an issue. Symptoms of this dependence include anxiety when away
from the device, social media addiction due to ease of access, and sedentary behaviors (Lepp et al.,
2014). This excessive use is extremely prevalent in the college scene due to how much hinges on their
devices. Social media, school, communicating and entertainment all hinge on the smartphone which in
turn promotes its use creating a cycle that leads to the addiction that most students are oblivious about.
This device has a plethora of effects that range from a decrease in quality academic performance to a
complete disatisfaction with life (Lepp et al., 2015). Can this behavior be able to be controlled or
stopped using the right interventions? The following text will explore the symptoms and effects of
high smartphone usage amongst college students, and see what intervention proves to be the most
effective in solving this social issue. 3 Biological Perspective: Cell phone use produce a lot of stimuli
for the user. Research has begun bringing this to light. There is evidence that shows the relationship
between cell phone use and your neurocognitive functions. New research has shown that Cell phone
usage may be directly linked to your dopamine levels and tamper with your reward center (La Porta et
al., 2006).

Introduction:
This essay will consider firstly the position of Lego in relation to both the constraints of the internal
and external environment in the lead up to 2004. The essay will then go on to consider the position of
the Lego group from ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Strengths
Lego s key strengths may be seen as coming from both its brand recognition and its ability to use
innovative technology without moving away from the company s core values. Whilst there are many
other competitors in the toy or children s entertainment market Lego remains the brand of choice in
the field of construction toys despite the fall of other long term historical brand such as Meccano (V A
2010) and the rise of alternative substitute products such as video games (BBC News 2004). As the
case study indicates despite the traditional nature of the Lego offering the company has a strong
association with contemporary IT, design and manufacturing systems which help to make the product
both more durable as well as helping to reduce manufacturing costs thus making the field of
technology as key strength for the business.
Weaknesses
Lego s key weakness in the run up to 2004 may be seen as two fold. Firstly the company has failed in
a key area of the understanding of marketing in regard to understanding the needs of their customers
which may be seen as the focal point of the marketing concept (Brassington and Pettitt 2007). This
can be clearly seen in the role out of the

Health And Social Care Chapter 2 Summary
The material presented in Chapters 2 and 3 are related in the sense that they intertwine with each
other. In Chapter 2, the main focus is the social gradient and stress levels. The lower on the social
gradient a person is the higher the stress level is and the more risk that person is at for health
conditions. This can lessen health of the future generations. Chapter 3 is wrapped in here. It is where
life is decided at the fetus or young age stage. Meaning the health of an individual is decided at an
early stage. If a mother is on the low end of the social gradient and has high levels of stress during a
pregnancy, the fetus is effected by the mother s health. Leading into the child growing up in the same
spot of the social gradient and having

Ci The Most Secretive Government Agency
What s the most secretive government agency in the world? You guessed right, it s the Central

agencies in the world. I m going to talk about several aspects of the CIA which will include the
history, roles, responsibilities, and other various tidbits of information that are pertinent to the Agency.
The CIA has a history that is shrouded in mystery. The Agency s history is rich with patriotic acts that

Chapter 2 Samuel 11-12 Explain And Show The Nature Of God
Interpretation of the text
The chapters, 2 Samuel 11 12, explain and show the nature of humans and the nature of God as well.
David is used as an example in these chapters as someone who falls short of temptation while being
highly favored by God. David was doing everything right and was rewarded for it. David was granted
everything he could possibly want and it was well deserved from his good intentions and morals.
When David all of a sudden sees a beautiful woman bathing, he feels like he can justify himself as
someone who is deserving of her knowing that she is married to a friend and soldier. Uriah was in
battle fighting and David impregnates his wife, Bathsheba. David immediately orders Uriah to come
home so that he can cover up his ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
God favors David greatly and it is obvious in the Old Testament especially in Acts 13:22 when He
says that David is a man after my own heart . It is amazing to see God love, forgive and care for
someone you has committed such harsh sins as David. After the parable, God continues to speak
through Nathan by asking David how he could despise him like that after all the things that God has
done for him. God punishes David by condemning his house and wives, and then tells him his child he
had with Bathsheba will die. David confesses, I have sinned against the Lord , and Nathan tells David,
now the Lord has put away your sin; you shall not die . In Arnold s Commentary it says because of
Yahweh s nature, sin has a limited life span, but love lasts forever. This is translated as having
consequences for sins, being forgiven for them and no matter what always being loved by God
because God s love is eternal. I think in that day and age one couldn t just be forgiven for one s sins
but also have to make amends for them. There are debates on whether there is a punishment for one s
sins and unfortunately this intention or idea doesn t make a lot of sense to us today because of our law
and commandments. Some scholars think that the overall sequence and series of struggle that David
deals with later on is part of the divine punishment. This would make a lot of sense that the death of
David and Bathsheba s child was because of the adultery that David had committed. The punishment
of David s house would also make sense and have to do with David getting Uriah killed intentionally.
These events were the outcome of David s sins. When reading the scripture and commentaries, we
should see this as the overall punishment of God. One wouldn t second guess the judgment of the Lord
but there are moments where actions can be called upon for

Liar s Poker
Liar s Poker, by Michael Lewis, is a book that thoroughly looks into the author s life as a broker on
Wall Street working for Salomon Brothers, the most profitable firm in the 1980 s. Michael Lewis
graduated from The London School of Economics and decided to take his career into trading when
offered a job by the top trading firm. At this time, the mortgage market started booming, and money
was flowing all over Wall Street. The secondary mortgage market was on the up rise when Michael
Lewis accepted a job at Salomon Brother s. The secondary mortgage market was the selling of bonds,

In October 1981, Congress passed a tax break that allows thrifts to sell their money losing mortgage
loans and reinvest the proceeds for higher returns. Mortgages were pooled by dollar amount and
interest rate and then traded. Salomon Brother s wanted to make mortgages look like bonds. Ranieri
had the loans transferred into bonds by getting a stamp of the U.S. government agency Ginnie Mae,
Frannie Mae, or Freddie Mac. The stamp was proof of the U.S. government guarantee that made
trading mortgage bonds possible. Ranieri s mortgage department made 215 million over 3 years. After
6 years, Ranieri s mortgage department was making more money than any other Salomon businesses
combined. They formed this group of traders, all characterized as Italian, loud, and fat. Ginnie Mae,
Frannie Mae, and Freddie Mac were U.S. government agencies that guaranteed various types of
mortgage loans. They allowed mortgage lenders to obtain a better price for their mortgage loans in the
securities market. Lenders used the proceeds to make new mortgage loans available. After some time,
and with the mortgage market soaring, buyers and sellers were making their own rules. Salomon
Brother s created a CMO in 1983, which dominated the mortgage market in 1986. The mortgage
market was attractive to many investors due to the money outflow that it generated. It was unattractive
to some investors due to the stress, competition, and buying

Racial Tension And Police Brutality
Racial tension and police brutality are the most controversial topics in the United States today. As a
society, we never really know what to do with racism. The increase tensions between the African
American community and Caucasian community has been at an ultimate high recently. The
contemporary events in places such as Missouri, Florida, Chicago, etc. have highlighted the
seriousness of these issues.
In Ferguson, Missouri, 18 year old African American male Michael Brown was shot and killed by
police officer Darren Wilson. The incident involving Brown created a critical environment in
Ferguson and became a dangerous and controversial time in America. The events following the initial
incident impacted Missouri significantly. Following this incident, a ripple effect of police brutality
incidents took place. The question Is the law is really doing their job and protecting us? Was created.
The issue of police brutality is a significant issue within America today. I strongly think that this issue
is an important issue because as civilians, individuals should feel protected by their law system and
officers. But also, police officers should not be anxious to arrest individuals and/or patrol communities
because of tensions created within the community. Specifically, since Michael Brown s death police
officers become apprehensive to do their job because of the split between civilians and the police force
during this time. One incident that created fear, anxiousness, and anger

The Main Elements Of Society For Aristotle And Plato
Provence Barnouin 10/14/16
Prof. Hittinger
Contemporary Civilization: Idea Paper 1
Households (or families) are one of the key elements of society for both Aristotle and Plato. Family is
the first form in society of association between men as it answers man s natural needs, and instincts.
As Aristotle explains, the coupling which necessity gives rise [to] is that between those who are
unable to exist without one another, in other words man is a being that is, by nature, social and
political. Association is a natural phenomenon, which declines in interdependent forms such as the
family, the village, and finally the city. However, it would be an error to assume that each form is not
fundamentally different from one another. In Politics, Aristotle criticizes Plato s assumption that a city
must strive to be a unit, because beyond a certain point, city will be reduced to family and family to
individual. [Book II, 1261a] Indeed, if a city state were to strive towards unity it would resemble a
household, since he holds the household to be of higher degree in unity, but by assumption, a city state
is different that a household.
By uncovering and comparing the differences between the city and the household in Politics, Ethics
and The Republic, we will first explain Aristotle s criticism and Plato s potential response to his
student. This will lead us to understand the relationship between the city state and the household and
explain whether the family is a natural

The Six Chief Characteristics Of Philosophy
The main goal behind philosophy is to seek the deepest, and most detailed truth behind everything in
the universe. Many different concepts such as relativism attempt to disprove truth that philosophy
attempts to pursue. To understand what it means for philosophy to pursue truth, we must first
understand the nature of philosophy, or what philosophy really is. To understand the nature of
philosophy, we must look at the six chief characteristics of philosophy. The six chief characteristics of
philosophy will help us understand why other concepts such as relativism are wrong, and why
philosophy does indeed pursue the deepest truth. The nature of philosophy is defined as the essence of
philosophy, or what philosophy really is. First we must look at the six chief characteristics of
philosophy to understand the nature of philosophy. The first chief characteristic is doing an
Etymological analysis of the term philosophy. This simply means that we must analyze the word to get
its root parts. If we divide philosophy it comes out to mean love of wisdom, and a philosopher is a
lover of wisdom or truth. Philosophy can be seen as the desire to know deeply the world that is around
us. The next chief characteristic is the basic mood of philosophy. The basic mood of philosophy is
wonder or anxiety in a world we cannot understand to the fullest. This brings us to our next chief
characteristic which is raising fundamental questions. These deep philosophical questions, are raised
in order to

Personal Narrative Losing Weight Essay
Personal Narrative Losing Weight
I know I should lose weight. It requires a lot of perseverance that I one time had and need to find
again. Many of the reasons I should lose weight are very clear to me. I have read many articles and
have heard what my doctor has told me. I lost over forty pounds about three years ago, unfortunately, I
gained it back two fold when I was pregnant with my daughter. I still have not been able to get rid of
this weight since she was born. Sometimes it causes me to get tired just from going to the grocery
store. I also found out in September of last year that I have hypertension (high blood pressure) which
effected my vision drastically by the following November. Other problems are social such as the ...

hypertension all together. If I forget to take my pill first thing in the morning, I begin to get headaches
and start feeling a little edgy by noon. My doctor is in the opinion that my weight is the main cause of
my high blood pressure. I also began to have problems with my eyesight almost immediately after I
learned I had hypertension. My vision began to get blurry and I felt pressure behind my eyes that
scared me greatly. I had to get a much stronger prescription for my contact lenses and now have to
return to my eye doctor to have my eyes tested every six months. My optometrist tells me that it is
possible to reverse the effects the hypertension has had on my eyes. These health issues have become
serious problems for me and if I lost weight, there is a strong possibility of becoming free of these
problems. Losing weight would also reduce the risk of other health problems. My doctor has
explained several of these risks to me. I do not remember all of them, but the ones that stick out in my
mind the most are very common among the world today. He mentioned several forms of cancer to me.

Founded in 1975, Microsoft is a global competitor , that is, a global corporation following a unified

Microsoft entered the market at the beginning of the new global economy with an initial strategic

Mass Extinction
Extinction is the end of an organism or group of taxa. Extinctions occur when a species becomes unfit
for survival in its natural habitat usually to be replaced by another, better suited species. An organism
becomes ill suited for survival because its environment is changed or because its relationship to other
organisms is altered as stated from Credo Reference. The moment of extinction is generally
considered to be the death of the last individual of that particular species. Mass extinctions, however,
are rare events that only happen every few million years. Only recently have these events been
recorded and scientist have become alarmed at these recent extinctions. Most extinctions aren t even

They believe that a large asteroid was the cause of Cretaceous mass extinction. A large crater was
found in the Caribbean Sea near the Yucatan Peninsula of Mexico, which is about 65 million years
old. (Campell)
A large impact from an asteroid like this would cause global darkness from the amounts of dust sent
into the air. This dust would stop photosynthesis for plants which in all would affect every source of
live in the area (Thomas). This darkness would also cause the area to cool which could also kill off
organisms. Another would be an impact from a comet, such as the comet that exploded above
southeastern Siberia in 1908 (Thomas). The last factor is a Supernova explosion, which isn t the case
for earth since there is no evidence that this influenced life on earth.
The consequences of mass extinctions affect biological diversity greatly. By removing large numbers
species, this could reduce thriving and complex communities. These events are random and effect
species greatly, permanently removing species with highly advantageous features and change the
course of evolution forever. Whenever extinctions occur, a trickledown effect can occur. An example
of this could be how a certain plant may go extinct, and a worm eats that plant.
That worm would eventually die out because of the food source being gone. A bird would also be
affected by this since it can t eat that worm which is his only food source. The fossil record shows that
it typically takes 5 to 19 million

Impact of a State s Right to Nullification
The impact of a state s right to nullification can ultimately cause a great deal of damage to the country

They believed that the northern legislators and Adams supporters would never vote for such

The American Dream Of The Poer V, Volar, By Langston Hughes
The short story Volar by Judith Ortiz Cofer, and the poem Harlem by Langston Hughes share a
common theme which is the elusive American dream, thus, compared to a pot of gold for migrants.
There are several ideas that pertain to elusive American dream of both the short story and the poem.
First, in Volar, a family migrated from Puerto Rico to New Jersey to seek opportunities and better life
conditions. Similarly, in Harlem, it speaks about African Americans who migrated from the South to
the North for better working conditions. Secondly, in Volar, the reality of how hard to attain the
American dream is evident as the story described the living conditions in their tiny apartment. In a like
manner, the poem Harlem expresses the devastation in the truth that American dream of African
Americans is unattainable. Lastly, both the short story and the poem have a message of hardship
contrary to their expectations once settled in the place of what they thought to be the end of the
rainbow. Furthermore, some similarities and differences of figurative languages are used in both the
short story and the poem. For the similarities, in Volar, the author used similes, allusion and repetition
of significant words which reinforce the theme. The similes are Supergirl comic books in my bedroom

Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm Essay
Definition
An AAA (abdominal aortic aneurysm) is defined as enlargement of at least 3 cm of the abdominal
aorta. The majority of abdominal aortic aneurysms begins below the renal arteries and ends above the
iliac arteries. The exact cause of (AAAs) is unknown. However, it is thought to be due to a
degenerative process of the abdominal aorta caused by atherosclerosis. Artherosclerosis represents a
response to vessel wall injury caused by inflammation, genetically regulated defects in collagen and
fibrillin, increased protease activity within the arterial wall, and mechanical factors (Stoelting p. 143).
Pathophysiology
The abdominal aorta consists of three distinct tissue layers including: the intima, media, and
adventicia. There is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There is an increase in the concentration of proteolytic enzymes compared to their inhibitors in the
abdominal aorta as age progresses. It is also thought that metalloproteinases (MMPs) may be a factor
in the development of AAAs (Stoelting p. 143). There is an increase in expression and activity of
MMPs in people with AAAs. MMPs are present in normal aortic tissue and are responsible for vessel
remodeling. These proteinases are secreted into the extracellular matrix of AAAs by aortic smooth
muscle cells and macrophages. Increased MMP activity favors the degradation of collagen and elastin
in aneurysmal tissue (Laake).
Signs and Symptoms
Patients with ruptured AAAs present in many different ways. The most common manifestation of

suspected ruptured abdominal aortic aneurysm need immediate operation and control of the proximal

Anesthesia Management
Surgical intervention is presently the only effective method of treating AAAs. The risk of surgical
repair is outweighed by the risk of aneurysm rupture or aneurysm related death. Patients

Sign Language In The Deaf Community
What is Sign Language? Sign language is beneficial for both deaf recipients and families of those who
have a family member who is deaf. Sign language can be a useful tool to have in your back pocket
because communities now have increased in number with the amount of people who have lack of
hearing. Sign language can be combined in a daily conversation by using hands and spoken words to
help clarify what is being said. Sign language goes way back in time when it first got discovered in the
1800 by an educator, which led to grand openings of schools specifically for deaf students. Sign
language is a type of communication that is used with hand, body and facial expressions. Spoken
language can be used with words because we can hear our surroundings and what is being told to us to
become educated. On the other hand, the deaf community cannot hear their surroundings or the
spoken language. Therefore, the deaf community has an alphabet that is made of many signs used by
their hands. Some words can be used to demonstrate one to two words at a time to communicate their
wants and needs of the recipient. Sign language is not universal therefore you couldn t go to another

Sharks-Personal Narrative
My heart began to beat at a rapid rate, THUMP, THUMP, THUMP. As the scuba diving boat came to a
halt, all I could see was the dark, deep, blue ocean separating me and the island of Dhidhoofinolhu on
the horizon. The day began so simple as my family and I were enjoying breakfast on the shoreline,
admiring the Maldivian sunrise, talking about the plan for the day until my father said, We are going
whale shark diving! At that moment I was delighted, I had always wanted to go swimming with whale
sharks because they are beautiful, harmless creatures. My sister and I immediately ran to the
watersports center of the hotel, scrambling to find the right pair of flippers and scuba masks so that we
could leave promptly. The boat departed at thirteen hundred hours exactly. As I stepped onto the
colorful, traditional Maldivian boat my thoughts began to run wild. As the boat began its thirty minute
course, I also began to think about all the things that could go wrong. For example, I began to think
about how a great white shark would come up from the dark unknown and swallow me whole or bite
my leg off. My thoughts were interrupted by the guide shouting, ... Show more content on

boat stressing about how one of my family members could get stung and die. My thoughts were yet
again distracted by my mother shouting, Evy, jump in it s super cool! They are beautiful! Of course,

Positive And Negative Interaction
How Interactions Can be Positive and Negative
I was born and raised in Iraq; I came to the United States seven years ago with my small family. I

Disadvantages Of Bicyclist
Bicyclists seem to want all the same privileges as a motor vehicle but not the responsibility. I have not
only witnessed numerous instances of bicyclists running stop signs, but also experienced a near
accident caused by a cyclist running a stop sign.
There could be numerous reasons why bicyclists run stop signs. One could be that they are completely
unaware of traffic laws. It also could be that they don t want to lose momentum by stopping and
having to start again, or they simply don t care. No matter the reason, they re endangering the other
people on the road. I find this very concerning and dangerous. If cyclists want to be treated equally
with motor vehicles, they should realize that they must also follow the same laws and face the same
penalties. When you strap on you re helmet and straddle you re bike you re now legally responsible to
follow the same rules of the road as an automobile.
When living in a large metropolitan city, there are an extreme amount of cars on the streets. This
contributes to smog, emissions, and a huge carbon footprint on mother earth. People are thankful for
others who take this into consideration and ride bicycles instead of driving, but this doesn t make the
bicyclist a better person, even though some of them act like it.
Living in a small town that may have only a few intersections with stoplights or stop signs, one may
feel freer to break the rules of the road, and the consequences are less harmful. When you run through

Disadvantages Of Process Control
Process control plays a crucial role in the chemical engineering industry. The aim of process control is
to have a safe plant operation, to attain the design product output, to obtain quality standards from
maintaining the product composition and to operate at the lowest production cost (Sinnott, 2005). A
process control system is there to eliminate or implement corrective actions on any disturbance that
occurs during operation of a process. Achieving these actions is done through using control loops that
measure specific process variables, compare a desired output to these variables and control another
variable to correct any deviation in the set point of the system being investigated (Svrcek, Mahoney,

Disney Princess And Gender Stereotypes
She was intensely sympathetic. She was immensely charming. She was utterly unselfish. She excelled
in the difficult arts of family life. She sacrificed herself daily (Woolf, 1931). For thousands of decades,
women have faced the stereotype that they must be family orientated and give up selflessly for the
other gender, regardless of how they feel. The conventional image of ideal women can also be seen in
children s media Disney princesses, for example. How does this image of woman as portrayed by the
media influence the people viewing it, especially those with young mouldable minds, such as
children? This essay will focus specifically on the image of women as portrayed by classic Disney

According to Young Eisendrath, women s deepest desire is for sovereignty over our own lives, the
right and responsibility to act with free will to be the Subjects of our own desires. This is true of all
human beings, no matter their condition (2000, 29). Therefore, the Disney princess also can play a
vital role in making us realize what a woman should be as one human being. The third generation of
Disney princesses emphasize the importance of personality and diversity. Also, in their 2012 Disney
princess commercial, I am a princess, girls use adjectives such as courageous , brave and strong , as
well as kind , which suggests that the Walt Disney Company is promoting children s identification
with the image of princesses (Lopreore 2016, 13). The new image of princesses, portrayed as being
more independent and being the subject of their desires, whereas women had previously struggled to
get this recognition, will give children a new direction for doing what they want to do without
thinking about embodying the traditional ideal image of women. The new image of Disney princesses
plays the same role as Ragnell in The Wedding of Sir Gawain and the Lady Ragnell, a folktale which
Young Eisendrath believes was told as a warning to women and men about the

Kristin Joy s The Devil in the White City
Imagine living in a city where hundreds of people go missing in just six months. Then, we find out
that one person is suspected of killing over 200 people. This serial killer was Herman Webster
Mudgett, common alias H. H. Holmes. At the Chicago World s Fair, when the head architect, Daniel

nobody noticed. However, through historical records, letters, and documents, we know that Burnham s

Burnham built with good intentions, Holmes never would have been able to take advantage of people

Caste System In The Medieval Era
Born into Hope How would it feel to be nothing? How would it be to be born without hope? This is
something that is often true about the Medieval Period, this is a time without social privileges unless
you were born into wealth. Even if many were not born into wealth there are select few that have the
advantage to be a nobleman, kings, queens, and church people. The people right under the king are the
nobles. The nobles are born into their place in society which guarantees them wealth, privilege, and
powerful family. During the times of the medieval era there was a form of government set up that was
similar to a caste system. (thefindertimes.com) To define a caste system, it is a class structure
determined by birth. If your family is poor then you will be poor, also the same about rich families.
During medieval times a hierarchy existed, a pyramid of sorts with royalty at the top and peasants,
comprising the bulk of the population, at the bottom. (thefindertimes.com). This is a recognition of a
caste system. The part that is different from a caste system is the possibility to change your own fate.
This could be done through loyalty or hard work. Even if thought impossible it would not be easy. But
if granted land by the king for service then your family to come will also be wealthy. The riches and

Abstract: As humans advanced in technology, manmade and natural disasters are increasing
exponentially. One of the most dangerous is the forest fire. Forest fire destroys trees which give us
oxygen and it is very difficult to stop a forest fire spreading if it is not detected early. Our method is to
detect the forest fire as early as possible and also predict the forest fire in advance so that prompt
action can be taken before the fire destroys and spreads over a large area. We also find the rate of
spread of fire in all direction so that necessary action can be initiated. The other problems are
deforestation where humans cut the trees from restricted areas and so the wild animals from the forest
enter the human habitation and cause problems. In this paper we discuss the solutions to overcome
these problems.

Adolf Hitler

Adolf Hitler is known for having the greatest impact on Europe in all of history, especially Germany.
Although the majority of people look down on him for his mass murder of about 6 million Jews in a
short time period, his story of influence on a whole country is incredible. He started out as a boy from
a little town in Austria with nothing more than a paintbrush and a dream; a dream to become an artist
and study at the Vienna Academy of Art. Although this infamous man is one of the most hated people
in history, his story is one that must be told.

A Führer is a German leader or guide, which is now related often to Hitler. Hitler s rise to power was
based on long term affects for Germany. The decade of depression left by the First World War, which
left Europe in great debt and starving. There was so much resentment in the Germans, which they
wanted a leader that could help them out of the state of depression that lasted so long. Hitler s Nazi s,
men who followed and helped Hitler to his rise of power, also had a reign of terror that scared Europe
and thus leading to Hitler s rise. Adolf Hitler was a very profound and persuasive public speaker. He
would make public speeches about how if he got into power, that he would guarantee food and health
for every person in Germany. One of his mottos was A Chicken In Every Pot, A [Volkswagon] In
Every Garage . This was a very promising statement for Germany; after all they had been through.
The Holocaust is the most infamous mass murder throughout all of history. It went on from January

To what extent do ways of knowing prevent us from deluding ourselves? Justify your answer with
reference to at least one area of knowledge
Ways of knowing are the core of TOK for us to get knowledge in different Areas of Knowledge. The
two key terms on this essay question are ways of Knowing and deluding ourselves . Ways of knowing
are how we acquire knowledge about the world around us, and figure out our relationship with it . (IB
Diploma Program, 31) Ways of Knowing help us to understand Areas of Knowledge fully. TOK has 8
Ways of Knowing; on this essay I will discuss the three ways: sense perception, emotions, and
reasoning. Deluding ourselves means to mislead the mind or judgment. It means deceiving ourselves.

That fear will cause me to run (Theory of Knowledge). These decisions have to be decided quickly
and they come from our emotions.
The last but not the least is reasons. Reasoning is justification for something. Reasoning follows logic
or the truth. It prevents us from deluding ourselves since when we are reasoning we use evidence to
conclude and we accept the truth whether we like it or not. In order to get knowledge in science we
usually use inductive and deductive arguments. We need to see the past patterns to generalize
knowledge. Unless we generalize and put them as a theory or a law, it is hard to get knowledge from
natural science.
Deductive reasoning uses specific premises to conclude a truth, and if the premises are true, the
conclusion is impossible to be false. For example
All IB students must do TOK and EE
Adam is an IB student
Adam must do TOK and EE (Theory of Knowledge )
Such generalizations help us to come to a specific truth. In natural science, when scientists come up
with a theory, first they will do an experiment and they will look for patterns in order to make
conclusions. For example My grandfather has diabetes, my father has also has diabetes, and I also has
diabetes, so my son will have diabetes problem. Such knowledge is very important in natural science
to give a reliable knowledge through reasoning.
However, to some extent, ways of knowing may delude us from knowing the truth. Ways of knowing
are dependent on each

Pernicious Anemia In The 1800s
In the 1800s, there was a disease called pernicious anemia. Pernicious anemia was affecting in older
people and death occurred within two to five years. In 1926, George Richards Minot discovered the
cure for pernicious anemia was nutrients in liver, which was the previous treatment for this disease,
and that it was absence of nutrients. This resulted in the seclusion of a vitamin which we now call
vitamin B₁₂. George Minot along with William Murphy and George Whipple received a Nobel Prize in

style, adolescence seem to be more encouraged to join the movement. Because the youth of todays
generations are not aware of the responsibilities that come along with drinking, they are ignorant to
the fact that there are ramification that come along with underage drinking. Though there are factors
that play along with the juvenile party trend, as a community, we must come together and be aware of
the poor results these actions can cause. Underage drinking has become an outrage; its use among
teenagers has consequences such as brain damage, addictiveness, and safety risks. Teenagers can tend
to view alcohol as a conversation starter, helping them loosen up around people; but it can cause harsh
brain damage. In spite the reality that alcohol can affect several parts of the brain while drinking
underage, the Hippocampus and the Prefrontal Lobe, are especially susceptible to alcohol damage.

(Consumer Information, 2013). This is proof of how alcohol is poison to the youth, dominating their
behavior, and becoming the cause to such young deaths. With the help of alcohol, teens awareness is
being altered. In 2008, almost 40,000 youth ages 15 20 were admitted to hospitals due to alcohol
problems. (Consumer Information, 2013). The numbers review the risks put in place by teens
consuming alcohol. If the damage done is not lethal, it very well can still be life changing. From

Understanding Cash Flows and Capital Budgeting Decisions
When evaluating cash flows for determining whether or not to pursue constructing a building to
manufacture cupcakes there are several things to consider. The most important would be looking at a
Grammy s incremental after tax cash flow. Then one needs to determine the projects initial outlay, the
differential cash flows over the project s life, and the terminal cash flow. Also what needs to be looked
at is what is the net present value and its internal rate of return.

Why or Why Not?
Yes it should be accepted. The construction of the building should be accepted. This is because the net
present value is greater than one and the NPV is a positive number. This means that the construction
project creates value and wealth. Also the internal rate of return is greater than the required rate of
return. This means the project will be a benefit to Grammy s company.
Genesis 47:18 19 (KJV), states, When that year was ended, they came unto him the second year, and
said unto him, We will not hide it from my lord, how that our money is spent; my lord also hath our
herds of cattle; there is not ought left in the sight of my lord, but our bodies, and our lands: Wherefore
shall we die before thine eyes, both we and our land? Buy us and our land for bread, and we and our
land will be servants unto Pharaoh: and give us seed, that we may live, and not die, that the land be
not desolate. The people in the passage of scripture were explaining to their master what they had to
offer him. The cash flow was completely gone for the previous year but they had

Homicide In Colombia
Colombian Law Enforcement 12,800. That s the number of homicides that happened in Colombia in
2014. Which so happens to be 1,500 less than 2013 ( Thanks to ). That may seem like an abundance of
deaths by murder, but the United States had 14,249 homicides ( 2014 Crime ). The crime rate in
Colombia is the lowest it has been since the early 1970 s and has been steadily dropping since 2009 (
Thanks to ). By looking at the slowing down of homicide rates in Colombia, one can see that their
government is getting stronger than ever, which is important because the lack of authority in the past
gave Colombia a violent history from the drug wars.

They are ending the trafficking by starting a battle. As the Colombian government nears a deal to end
its 50 year conflict with FARC guerrillas, it is intensifying another war in the jungles here along the
Caribbean coast, the stronghold of a shadowy drug organization known as Clan Úsuga (Colombia is).
The authorities have been training and have been looking for the leader of Clan Úsuga. For over a
year, U.S. trained Colombian soldiers in Black Hawk helicopters have been hunting down the group s
leader, Dario Antonio Úsuga, a.k.a. Otoniel, in an urgent campaign to capture or kill him before a
truce with FARC is made. The Colombian law enforcement and the U.S. law enforcements are
teaming up and thinking of a way to stop this before it becomes a Pablo Escobar type of cartel. They
do not want to go through the violence and homicides again. Operation Agamemnon is a campaign
against Clan Úsuga. It s a sign of Colombian and U.S. fears that criminal mafias will take advantage
of the peace deal to reconstruct Pablo Escobar style cartels that would avoid the rule of law as much as
an insurgency. The U.S. wants to help put a stop to this because it will be less addictions and violence
if the cocaine business is put to an end. The help from the U.S. has proven to be successful. That $10

Talent management
Talent management as defined by CIPD (Corporate Institute of Personal and Development) is a work
fantasy, engagement, retention and deployment of those who have high potential for the future or
fulfills business critical roles. Companies rather than normal adopted methods have their own
concepts of talent.
Although EXTEC were having wide range of good entrepreneurs and innovators, still they were
facing shortage of talent in INDIA. ITECH had to put extra efforts to groom the people lacking
specialization in management. According to the studies of several authors there seem to be the
difference between the demand and supply of the talented people. Operation in different nations needs
a globally multi generational workforce with good strategy to develop. The talent strategy adopted by
ITech will not only give confidence to the investors, but also will lead to better service to the
customers. Thus by having talented workforce ITech could build its name by providing good costumer
services. Talent management process in ITech will require little tools like hiring and recruiting,
succession planning, job satisfaction etc. ITech have to choose a uniform method with small element
of local policy based on culture, to carry out talent management in two nations in similar way. ... Show

Conventional and Irregular Warfare
Giulio Douhet, in his seminal treatise on air power titled The Command of the Air, argued, A man who
wants to make a good instrument must first have a precise understanding of what the instrument is to
be used for; and he who intends to build a good instrument of war must first ask himself what the next
war will be like. The United States (US) military establishment has been asking itself this exact
question for hundreds of years, in an attempt to be better postured for the future. From the Civil War,
through the American Indian Wars, and up until World War II (WWII) the American military s way of
war consisted of fighting traditional, or conventional, wars focused on total annihilation of an enemy.
Since that time, there has been a gradual shift from the traditional framework towards one that can
properly address non traditional, or irregular wars. While the US maintains a capability to conduct
conventional warfare, the preponderance of operations where the US military has been engaged since
WWII have been irregular wars. Therefore, this question articulated by Douhet, as to understanding
the character of the next war in order to properly plan, train, and equip, is certainly germane to the
current discussion of regular war versus irregular war. In today s fiscally constrained environment, the
questions remains, which will dominate the future and therefore, garner further funding and priority.
Based on the current threats and the US role as a superpower, the US

Satire Animal Farm
Fables are significantly viewed upon because of their twisted display of valuable morals and
teachings. Fables focus on a precise theme or concept that is interestingly portrayed with the use of
animals. *CONTROVERSIAL question* The fictional, fable novel Animal Farm, by George Orwell
teaches that abuse of authority, deceitful tactics, and pursuing power will lead to rebellion resulting in
corruption. Animal Farm thoroughly depicts the major causes of rebellion in hope of preventing the
future of any corruption similar to the true history of the novel. Taking authority for granted is
dangerous. If leaders abuse authority they expose an opportunity for revolting; as concluded from the
fable. In the allegory, Animal Farm was owned by a man named ... Show more content on

Issues in Philippine Education
Issues in Philippine Education: In Retrospect
They say that education is the best social leveler. They say that it is the very answer to poverty,
corruption, hate, and ignorance. If it really is like many people believe it is, then the study of the key
educational, ergo curricular, issues in the Philippines is a significant endeavor that needs serious pair
of eyes, ears and hands.
According to the IBON Facts and Figures, the literacy rate in the Philippines has regressed a lot over
the last ten years. This is attributed to the dwindling quality, relevance and accessibility of education
the very basic rights of the Filipino youth as etched vividly in the Constitution.
Despite the good things that Department of Education has reported such as ... Show more content on

This way, people can understand the state of education more and eventually face and nip the problems
in the bud.
Curriculum managers and educational experts are always looking for better ways to achieve better
learning through teaching. However, since curriculum innovations seemed to be difficult for many,
issues and concerns have been raised about curricular innovations. The newness of the idea to the
users raises issues which need to be addressed. Certain aspects need to be clarified in order to
overcome the attitude and feelings that create some concerns.
Perter Oliva s Developing the Curriculum (Seventh Edition) reveals 12 curriculum issues. These are 1.
Academic Area Initiatives, 2. Alternative Schools, 3. Bilingual/Bicultural Education, 4. Censorship, 5.
Gender, 6. Health Education, 7. Diversity, 8. Privatization, 9. Provision for Exceptionalities, 10.
Religion in Public Education, 11. Scheduling Arrangements, and 12. Standards and Assessment
Clearly, there is no discrete separation in these twelve categories. On one sense, they are all
interrelated and bear close relationship with each other. Some items enumerated, however may not be
fit for the Filipino audience.
In the Curriculum Development book of Purita Bilbao et al., it enumerates a number of fitter and more
relevant Curricular Issues and Concerns. 1. Poor Academic

Google Human Capital Essay
Human resources and human capital are different. Human resources management is the function by
which the human capital is guided and directed. As previously stated, human capital is made up of the
knowledge and skills that people possess. When a company hires an employee they are essentially
leasing the talent that the individual owns. The company does not own the employee, their skills or
abilities. Human capital emphasizes valuing people that work for the companies as assets; employees
that add to the value of the organization, and when efficiently managed contributes to the overall
success of the company in terms of employee productivity and contribution. The role of human
resources in valuing human capital is mainly to figure out ways to attract and recruit the best people,
find ways to make them better at what they do and bring the best out of them.
Google appears to be a great organization to work for. As a company that thrives from the creativity
and innovation of people, they really seem to put forth an effort towards creating an atmosphere in
which the talent or human capital has an opportunity to flourish. It is quite clear that Google will not
hesitate to go to great lengths to promote a fun and inclusive environment where the workers, or as
they prefer to call them smart creatives , are able to feel like they matter. They have decided to stay
away from the traditional aspect of corporate America and chose to implement what may be a game

Stereotypes In Society
Stereotypes are assumptions or generalizations that people think and label a particular person as
belonging to a group based on how they look in terms of gender, race, ethnicity, and other categories.
Stereotypes are a big problem in our society because they have a negative impact and can be
damaging to a person s emotions. Thus, any stereotype on individuals is viewed as wrong and in the
end, it s us judging one another. I was stereotyped as a thief because some people assumed I was
stealing. As a result, I was affected by this because if they stopped to see what I was actually doing,
they would have seen I was buying a box to give someone a present.
The day I was stereotyped was when I went to a store called Daiso. I was in search of a gift box for a

Moreover, they affect people s social lives, an emotional state of mind, and how they interact with
their surroundings. I believe that you can t possibly know someone s character just by looking at their
religion, race, or gender. People who like to stereotype are people who enjoy judging others. On the
other hand, people have been stereotyped realize the severity of such an act because after facing harsh
judgment, they remember the lack of confidence and self control it had on them. For example, in my
country, regarding gender stereotypes, women have often been associated as passive individuals in a
household and they are put in the latter category, which means they lack the roles that men have. Most
people believe women should stay at home to cook, clean, and take care of their children, meanwhile,
men should support their family by working and paying the bills. This stereotype make women
strongly depend on their spouse for financial, emotion, and physical support. As a result, staying home
and doing the same thing every single day women gradually become distant from

  • 2. The Influence Of Departmentalization On Elementary School... Summary A review of the research literature showed that confounding definitions related to elementary school instructional organization, limited research, and contradictory and inconclusive findings contribute to the difficulty of determining the impact of departmentalization on elementary school students. Also problematic are stakeholders influences on instructional organization decisions and how these decisions are viewed in terms of institutional factors such as rules, structures, and social and professional norms. Confounding definitions and misrepresentations make choices difficult, and force many school districts to create their own definitions of terms. The failure to establish static definitions continues to complicate the debate. Those that support the benefits of the self contained classroom site optimized individualization, time flexibility, and coordination across content areas. The advocates of departmentalization focus on the need for the teachers specialized knowledge for increased student engagement and content mastery. They claim it is unrealistic to expect elementary teachers to have the specialized knowledge that is required to facilitate instruction. Research indicates that departmentalized instruction helps students transition to the middle school format, and that grade level instructional teams promote teacher retention. Teacher retention is associated with departmentalization was shown to have a positive impact on student achievement. The ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Leading up the battle of Yorktown, in February, 1781, Major General Marquis de Lafayette was ordered to take his Continental troops to Virginia. About a month later General Cornwallis and his army had entered Virginia believing that if the American forces had resistance, he would have victory against the Americans and the French. Later that year in August on 1 2, 1781 Cornwallis and his army set up at Gloucester point, hoping to use it as a base for supply and weapons. Couple of weeks later, Washington heard about the base and sent a large army to destroy Cornwallis base. A month later on September 14, 1781, French General Rochambeau and General Washington arrived, and sent 400 French soldiers and 400 American soldiers to storm the British redoubt. • 5. Cause And Effects Of Smartphone Addiction 5 6 7 Introduction: The smartphone is still a fairly new invention and is constantly being developed and improved. This device has integrated itself into our culture and is slowly becoming essential to our lives. The younger generation known as Millennials in the age range of 18 35 years old check their cell phones on average about 75.6 times a day (Soto et al., 2017). This number is exceptionally high when compared to the older generation who only check their phone around 23 times a day, according to the same research. This paper will cover cell phone addiction and its effects on the college students lifestyle. Addiction in this case is tied with the substance use criteria in The Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM 5). In the criteria it states that substance use is a pathological pattern of behaviors related to use of the substance. Extremely high smartphone use can lead to these behaviors where dependency is an issue. Symptoms of this dependence include anxiety when away from the device, social media addiction due to ease of access, and sedentary behaviors (Lepp et al., 2014). This excessive use is extremely prevalent in the college scene due to how much hinges on their devices. Social media, school, communicating and entertainment all hinge on the smartphone which in turn promotes its use creating a cycle that leads to the addiction that most students are oblivious about. This device has a plethora of effects that range from a decrease in quality academic performance to a complete disatisfaction with life (Lepp et al., 2015). Can this behavior be able to be controlled or stopped using the right interventions? The following text will explore the symptoms and effects of high smartphone usage amongst college students, and see what intervention proves to be the most effective in solving this social issue. 3 Biological Perspective: Cell phone use produce a lot of stimuli for the user. Research has begun bringing this to light. There is evidence that shows the relationship between cell phone use and your neurocognitive functions. New research has shown that Cell phone usage may be directly linked to your dopamine levels and tamper with your reward center (La Porta et al., 2006). ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 10. Chapter 2 Samuel 11-12 Explain And Show The Nature Of God Interpretation of the text The chapters, 2 Samuel 11 12, explain and show the nature of humans and the nature of God as well. David is used as an example in these chapters as someone who falls short of temptation while being highly favored by God. David was doing everything right and was rewarded for it. David was granted everything he could possibly want and it was well deserved from his good intentions and morals. When David all of a sudden sees a beautiful woman bathing, he feels like he can justify himself as someone who is deserving of her knowing that she is married to a friend and soldier. God favors David greatly and it is obvious in the Old Testament especially in Acts 13:22 when He says that David is a man after my own heart . It is amazing to see God love, forgive and care for someone you has committed such harsh sins as David. After the parable, God continues to speak through Nathan by asking David how he could despise him like that after all the things that God has done for him. God punishes David by condemning his house and wives, and then tells him his child he had with Bathsheba will die. David confesses, I have sinned against the Lord , and Nathan tells David, now the Lord has put away your sin; you shall not die . In Arnold s Commentary it says because of Yahweh s nature, sin has a limited life span, but love lasts forever. This is translated as having consequences for sins, being forgiven for them and no matter what always being loved by God because God s love is eternal. I think in that day and age one couldn t just be forgiven for one s sins but also have to make amends for them. There are debates on whether there is a punishment for one s sins and unfortunately this intention or idea doesn t make a lot of sense to us today because of our law and commandments. Some scholars think that the overall sequence and series of struggle that David deals with later on is part of the divine punishment. This would make a lot of sense that the death of David and Bathsheba s child was because of the adultery that David had committed. The punishment of David s house would also make sense and have to do with David getting Uriah killed intentionally. These events were the outcome of David s sins. When reading the scripture and commentaries, we should see this as the overall punishment of God. One wouldn t second guess the judgment of the Lord but there are moments where actions can be called upon for ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Michael Lewis graduated from The London School of Economics and decided to take his career into trading when offered a job by the top trading firm. At this time, the mortgage market started booming, and money was flowing all over Wall Street. The secondary mortgage market was on the up rise when Michael Lewis accepted a job at Salomon Brother s. In October 1981, Congress passed a tax break that allows thrifts to sell their money losing mortgage loans and reinvest the proceeds for higher returns. Mortgages were pooled by dollar amount and interest rate and then traded. Salomon Brother s wanted to make mortgages look like bonds. Ranieri had the loans transferred into bonds by getting a stamp of the U.S. government agency Ginnie Mae, Frannie Mae, or Freddie Mac. The stamp was proof of the U.S. government guarantee that made trading mortgage bonds possible. Ranieri s mortgage department made 215 million over 3 years. After 6 years, Ranieri s mortgage department was making more money than any other Salomon businesses combined. They formed this group of traders, all characterized as Italian, loud, and fat. Ginnie Mae, Frannie Mae, and Freddie Mac were U.S. government agencies that guaranteed various types of mortgage loans. They allowed mortgage lenders to obtain a better price for their mortgage loans in the securities market. Lenders used the proceeds to make new mortgage loans available. After some time, and with the mortgage market soaring, buyers and sellers were making their own rules. Salomon Brother s created a CMO in 1983, which dominated the mortgage market in 1986. • 12. Racial Tension And Police Brutality Racial tension and police brutality are the most controversial topics in the United States today. As a society, we never really know what to do with racism. The increase tensions between the African American community and Caucasian community has been at an ultimate high recently. The contemporary events in places such as Missouri, Florida, Chicago, etc. have highlighted the seriousness of these issues. In Ferguson, Missouri, 18 year old African American male Michael Brown was shot and killed by police officer Darren Wilson. The incident involving Brown created a critical environment in Ferguson and became a dangerous and controversial time in America. The events following the initial incident impacted Missouri significantly. Following this incident, a ripple effect of police brutality incidents took place. The question Is the law is really doing their job and protecting us? Was created. The issue of police brutality is a significant issue within America today. I strongly think that this issue is an important issue because as civilians, individuals should feel protected by their law system and officers. But also, police officers should not be anxious to arrest individuals and/or patrol communities because of tensions created within the community. Specifically, since Michael Brown s death police officers become apprehensive to do their job because of the split between civilians and the police force during this time. • 13. The Main Elements Of Society For Aristotle And Plato Provence Barnouin 10/14/16 Prof. Hittinger Contemporary Civilization: Idea Paper 1 Households (or families) are one of the key elements of society for both Aristotle and Plato. Family is the first form in society of association between men as it answers man s natural needs, and instincts. As Aristotle explains, the coupling which necessity gives rise [to] is that between those who are unable to exist without one another, in other words man is a being that is, by nature, social and political. Association is a natural phenomenon, which declines in interdependent forms such as the family, the village, and finally the city. However, it would be an error to assume that each form is not fundamentally different from one another. In Politics, Aristotle criticizes Plato s assumption that a city must strive to be a unit, because beyond a certain point, city will be reduced to family and family to individual. [Book II, 1261a] Indeed, if a city state were to strive towards unity it would resemble a household, since he holds the household to be of higher degree in unity, but by assumption, a city state is different that a household. By uncovering and comparing the differences between the city and the household in Politics, Ethics and The Republic, we will first explain Aristotle s criticism and Plato s potential response to his student. This will lead us to understand the relationship between the city state and the household and explain whether the family is a natural ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 14. The Six Chief Characteristics Of Philosophy The main goal behind philosophy is to seek the deepest, and most detailed truth behind everything in the universe. Many different concepts such as relativism attempt to disprove truth that philosophy attempts to pursue. To understand what it means for philosophy to pursue truth, we must first understand the nature of philosophy, or what philosophy really is. To understand the nature of philosophy, we must look at the six chief characteristics of philosophy. The six chief characteristics of philosophy will help us understand why other concepts such as relativism are wrong, and why philosophy does indeed pursue the deepest truth. The nature of philosophy is defined as the essence of philosophy, or what philosophy really is. First we must look at the six chief characteristics of philosophy to understand the nature of philosophy. The first chief characteristic is doing an Etymological analysis of the term philosophy. This simply means that we must analyze the word to get its root parts. If we divide philosophy it comes out to mean love of wisdom, and a philosopher is a lover of wisdom or truth. Philosophy can be seen as the desire to know deeply the world that is around us. The next chief characteristic is the basic mood of philosophy. The basic mood of philosophy is wonder or anxiety in a world we cannot understand to the fullest. This brings us to our next chief characteristic which is raising fundamental questions. These deep philosophical questions, are raised in order to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Extinctions occur when a species becomes unfit for survival in its natural habitat usually to be replaced by another, better suited species. An organism becomes ill suited for survival because its environment is changed or because its relationship to other organisms is altered as stated from Credo Reference. The moment of extinction is generally considered to be the death of the last individual of that particular species. A large crater was found in the Caribbean Sea near the Yucatan Peninsula of Mexico, which is about 65 million years old. (Campell) A large impact from an asteroid like this would cause global darkness from the amounts of dust sent into the air. This dust would stop photosynthesis for plants which in all would affect every source of live in the area (Thomas). This darkness would also cause the area to cool which could also kill off organisms. Another would be an impact from a comet, such as the comet that exploded above southeastern Siberia in 1908 (Thomas). The last factor is a Supernova explosion, which isn t the case for earth since there is no evidence that this influenced life on earth. The consequences of mass extinctions affect biological diversity greatly. By removing large numbers species, this could reduce thriving and complex communities. These events are random and effect species greatly, permanently removing species with highly advantageous features and change the course of evolution forever. Whenever extinctions occur, a trickledown effect can occur. An example of this could be how a certain plant may go extinct, and a worm eats that plant. There are several ideas that pertain to elusive American dream of both the short story and the poem. First, in Volar, a family migrated from Puerto Rico to New Jersey to seek opportunities and better life conditions. We also find the rate of spread of fire in all direction so that necessary action can be initiated. The other problems are deforestation where humans cut the trees from restricted areas and so the wild animals from the forest enter the human habitation and cause problems. In this paper we discuss the solutions to overcome these problems. Keywords: Fire detection, humidity sensor, temperature sensor, Intruder detection 1. It prevents us from deluding ourselves since when we are reasoning we use evidence to conclude and we accept the truth whether we like it or not. In order to get knowledge in science we usually use inductive and deductive arguments. We need to see the past patterns to generalize knowledge. Unless we generalize and put them as a theory or a law, it is hard to get knowledge from natural science. Deductive reasoning uses specific premises to conclude a truth, and if the premises are true, the conclusion is impossible to be false. For example All IB students must do TOK and EE Adam is an IB student Adam must do TOK and EE (Theory of Knowledge ) Such generalizations help us to come to a specific truth. In natural science, when scientists come up with a theory, first they will do an experiment and they will look for patterns in order to make conclusions. • 44. Conventional and Irregular Warfare Giulio Douhet, in his seminal treatise on air power titled The Command of the Air, argued, A man who wants to make a good instrument must first have a precise understanding of what the instrument is to be used for; and he who intends to build a good instrument of war must first ask himself what the next war will be like. The United States (US) military establishment has been asking itself this exact question for hundreds of years, in an attempt to be better postured for the future. From the Civil War, through the American Indian Wars, and up until World War II (WWII) the American military s way of war consisted of fighting traditional, or conventional, wars focused on total annihilation of an enemy. Since that time, there has been a gradual shift from the traditional framework towards one that can properly address non traditional, or irregular wars. While the US maintains a capability to conduct conventional warfare, the preponderance of operations where the US military has been engaged since WWII have been irregular wars. Therefore, this question articulated by Douhet, as to understanding the character of the next war in order to properly plan, train, and equip, is certainly germane to the current discussion of regular war versus irregular war.
