Inter Team Conflicts And Interpersonal Conflicts
When a group of people is brought together to form a team it is inevitable that some type of conflict
will arise. Every member of a team has value and each one must understand that a team without
conflict is necessary to accomplish the goal at hand (Mosley, 2005). There are multiple things that can
lead to conflicts and leaders must recognize these to have an effective team. As a result of this, the
leader must take into account everyone s background and experience level as the team is formed. This
paper will discuss the inter team conflicts, interpersonal conflicts, why policies are created and ways a
leader can prevent conflicts from happening.
Inter team Conflict Conflict in teams can have an adverse effect on a team s performance. As a leader,
it is imperative to manage conflict and handle matters before they become unmanageable. Assessing
and managing inter team conflicts before they arise is critical when stopping conflicts (Hoegl,
Weinkauf Gemuenden, 2004). When conflict occurs, the trigger or event could be very minor and
seem insignificant at the time. However, if the conflict is not resolved quickly, it could build up over
time, creating a snowball effect. After this happens, it s a matter of time before the conflict reaches a
tipping point and emotions flare up. Conflict can result from a variety of events or situations. These
could arise as a result of misinformation, a misunderstanding between team members, or a lack of
clear and concise

Summary Of The Veldt By Ray Bradbury
Bradbury s Words to You
Desmond Tutu, a South African leader once said, You do not choose your family. They are God s gift
to you, as you are to them. In the short story The Veldt , Ray Bradbury conveys the idea that no
material object that has ever been crafted, is more valuable than your family because your family
provides you with vital growth. He does this by telling the tragic tale of parents Lydia and George who
are killed by their spoiled and technology obsessed children, Wendy and Peter. Through foreshadow,
symbolism and imagery, Bradbury believes that kids need to respect their parents, otherwise there will
be grave consequences.
Bradbury uses the term The Happy House in an ironic manner to foreshadow the very unhappy demise
of the Hadley family. The Hadley s home consists of an abundance of high technological machines to
do all the work around the house for them, called the Happylife Home . The description of the house
provides the reader with an understanding that the family is very lazy for having machines doing all
the work for them as they are described as ... the house that bathed and fed them and was good to them
. However, despite the comforts this home brings, the Hadley parents become more and more worried
with the machines throughout the story. The beginning of the story foreshadows this: George, I wish
you d look at the nursery. What s wrong with it? I don t know. I just want you to look at it, is all, or
call a psychologist in to look at it.

Romeo And Juliet Tragic Tragedy
To believe in love, to be ready to give up anything for it, to be willing to risk your life for it, is the
ultimate tragedy (DiCaprio). In both of these stories there is the similarity of young love ending in
tragedy. Both sets of lovers feel defined by nothing but their weaknesses. Romeo feels like he can
never be enough for Juliet because he is just a Montague. Being a Montague is what he lets define
him. Hazel feels as if she can never be known as anything besides a cancer patient. She lets this define
her. Romeo and Juliet could never be together because of their families, and Hazel and Augustus could
never be together because of their diseases. In both cases fate was not on their side. Romeo is cursed
by his last name as Augustus is cursed by his cancer. Romeos last name Montague is his cancer. In the
stories Romeo and Juliet and The fault in our Stars the author reveals that going through tragedy is
worth it for love. Romeo and Juliet were cursed by their families names. They knew in their hearts
that because of this affliction that their love was doomed from the beginning. But they also new that it
was going to be worth it in the end to them. Come, gentle night, come, loving, black brow d night,
Give me my Romeo; and, when he shall die, Take him and cut him out in little stars, And he will make
the face of heaven so fine That all the world will be in love with night And pay no worship to the
garish sun. (Shakespeare 2.1.20 25) Romeo and Juliet s love was so deep

Fair Minded Critical Thinking Skills
Query 2: The intellectual virtues that are necessary to develop fair minded critical thinking skills, are
integrity, autonomy, empathy, courage, confidence in reason, humility, sense of justice, perseverance.
Fair mindedness is to commence to practice and respect others viewpoints and willing to listen to
others. Fair minded people set their tone and views aside to give others respect and not using their
thinking to control others. (Richard, 2012) Fair minded treats all thinking by the same high standards
and will commit to live a real and caring life. Often fair minded people do not look at theirself but
look at others to see how their behavior affects other people. There are times a fair minded person

What Are The Four Great Inventions Of Ancient Chinese...
The four great inventions by ancient Chinese people that have had a huge impact on the entire world
are papermaking, gunpowder, printing, and the compass. Paper was a great contribution to the spread
and development of civilization. The first nation to invent paper was china (www.fmprc.gov). Words
were written on numerous natural materials by ancient people before it was invented
(www.fmprc.gov). Mesopotamians used earthen plates, Egyptians used grass stalks, Europeans used
sheepskin, Indians used sheep skin, and the early Chinese used bamboo, wooden strips, tortoise shells,
or shoulder blades of an ox (www.fmprc.gov). These materials proved themselves unsuitable as
Chinese civilization developed because of their bulk and weight (www.travelchinaguide.com). Ancient

The paper making process first spread to Korea and then to Japan in the beginning of the third century
(www.fmprc.gov). Then in the twelfth century it reached the Arab world in the Tang Dynasty, and
Europe. (www.fmprc,gov). The Arabs captured some Tang soldiers and paper making workers during
the war between the Tang Dynasty and the Arab Empire (www.travalchinaguide.com). The Arabs set
up the paper factory and the Africans and Europeans then mastered the skill through the Arabs
(www.travelchinaguide.com). It then went to America by way of Europe and the gradually spread all
over the world (www.fmprc.gov). By the ninetieth century paper making spread throughout the world
in paper factories set up in Australia (www.travelchinaguide.com). The birth of gunpowder was
accidental (www.travelchinaguide.com). It was originally used for making fireworks and its later
adaptation revolutionized warfare across the world (www.fmprc.gov). It was first created by an

The Contributions Of The Progressive Era
Taking place in the United States between the 1890s and the 1920s, the Progressive Era was a period
characterized by political reform and social activism. Due to the popularity of the Progressive ideals
during this time period, American citizens elected for president candidates, such as Roosevelt, Taft,
and Wilson, who subscribed to these ideals. Of the three Progressive presidents, Wilson was the most
effective when it came to addressing the major issues of the late 19th and early 20th centuries, as
many reforms were enacted during his presidency, including reforms related to his New Freedom
program, despite the controversy surrounding the majority of these reforms. During his two terms of
presidency, Wilson fared well in terms of persuading the Congress, which had mostly consisted of
conservative Democrats, to pass acts that adhered to the Progressive legislative agenda. However, this
can be partially attributed to the fact that many of these acts were aligned with the ideals of
Democrats. Some of the issues that characterized the period between the late 1890s and the early
1920s were economic inequities, poor working conditions, and insufficient social welfare. Progressive
reformers sought to foster efficiency, protect social welfare, promote moral development, and secure
economic reform. As one can see, the Progressive reformers were focused on properly addressing the
major issues of the time period. Therefore, it can be assumed that President

My Parents At My Childhood Home
When living with both my parents at my childhood home, I attended Abraham Lincoln Washington
Elementary until the fourth grade. I stared going to pre school when I was 3 years old and then
transitioned into Kindergarten, where I attended Abraham Lincoln. The school included grade levels
from Kindergarten to eight grade. I loved going to school and would have my mother prepare my
lunch box early in the morning before walking me to school. We only lived three blocks from school,
which was very convenient for my mother and baby sister. My mother always walked me to class, but
my father would literally walk me to the corner of the street, which was two houses away from where
we lived and would watch me take the three block walk to school alone. My mother would mostly
take me to class, but on days she wasn t feeling well, she would have my father take me. However, I m
not sure why he would let me walk alone because if my mother knew, she would have a panic attack. I
was eager to go to school and play with my friends at recess. Although, I liked to learn new things, I
mostly liked going to school to socialize with people my own age. I ve always had a fascination for art
and numbers, which is probably why I m artistically gifted and creative. My favorite subjects were
P.E., art and math. I received a lot of certificates for student of the month during my elementary years
and was on the honor role and principles list numerous times. Before I was able to go into fourth

Who Is David Adjaye Sunken House
Sunken House Analysis
One of the things that most architects strive to achieve in their work is to make it stand out and really
add to its location s surroundings. This was definitely accomplished by David Adjaye in his Sunken
House project. In 2007, Adjaye designed a house for photographer Ed Reeve which is why today it is
also called Ed s Shed. However, the Sunken House is also a very deserving name. On the lot there was
a space already dug out for a basement foundation, however Adjaye had no intentions of including
some traditional basement. Instead, he used the lowered area to make a hidden first floor, and then
have the driveway connect to the second floor rather than the first/ground floor. This is just the
beginning of some of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Because of the simple box style he uses, most all of the walls were constructed off site and then
assemble or put together on site. This caused the actual construction process of this building to be
completed in just weeks with efficiency that should be considered rather innovative. This shows that
even the way something comes together can be part of design or architecture. Ultimately the end result
or final product can reflect to the process and the journey made to get to it, which is just another
outstanding design reflected in Adjaye s project.
In conclusion there are many innovative or modernized design styles of Adjaye in this Sunken House
project, and many of his other projects reflect similar design concepts. This just goes to show that you
can really see an artist, a designer, and also an architect as they mature in their design concepts and as
they gain experience and go through their career. Also however, it is important to maintain your design
concepts and build upon them to improve your work and set apart yourself from others, just like your
work will set apart itself form its

How Does Water Increase The Rate Of Chemical Reactions In...
flow chart:
1. Water increases the rate of chemical reactions in the body.
2. Without maintenance of fluids the body becomes in water crisis that leads to weakening of body
cells.
3. A good homeostasis is important for human body.
4. Lack of water results in less transport of substances such as enzymes, hormones etc.
5. O2 is important for every cell in the body and it is transported to whole body through water. If
water is available more oxygen will be purified in the lungs and blood would be more oxygenated and
vice versa.
6. Water removes metabolic wastes and toxic through urination which is important for excretion.

The first is a chemical buffer, the second line of defence is the respiratory system, and last is the
urinary system. These three mechanisms work together to keep body pH within that narrow range.
However our bodies are very sensitive to pH levels, so strong mechanisms are in place to in place to
regulate it. If pH rises or falls outside acceptable ranges for a specific part of the body, proteins and
enzymes may become denatured and lose their ability to function. This could lead to serious damage
or death. That is why it s absolutely essential that our body has a homeostatic mechanism to regulate
the correct acid base balance. One mechanism the body uses to control blood pH involves the release
of carbon dioxide from the lungs. Carbon dioxide, which is mildly acidic and is a waste product of the
metabolism of oxygen which all cells need and is constantly produced by cells. As with all the waste
products, carbon dioxide gets excreted into the blood. The blood carries carbon dioxide to the lungs,
where it is exhaled. As carbon dioxide accumulates in the blood, the pH of the blood decreases
(acidity increases). The brain regulates the amount of carbon dioxide that is exhaled by controlling the
speed and depth of breathing. The amount of carbon dioxide exhaled, and consequently the pH of the
blood, increases as breathing becomes faster and deeper. By adjusting the speed and depth of
breathing, the brain and lungs are able to regulate the blood pH minute by minute. The kidneys are
able to affect blood pH by excreting excess acids or bases. The kidneys have some ability to alter the
amount of acid or base that is excreted, but because the kidneys make these adjustments more slowly
than the lungs do, this compensation generally takes several

The Impact Of The Environment On The Environment
Humanity is slowly discovering new diseases, infections, and deadly illnesses. Researchers blame
genetics and how it is passed down from generation to generation through shared chromosomes. If
they don t blame genetics they blame the adaptation of species or the animals consumed by the
population. However, these animals carry what they consume: plants, insects, water, oxygen, and any
other animal the predators consume. People eat the meat, the vegetables, and breathe the oxygen that
the trees let out during photosynthesis, the food chain is being disrupted because of the impact that the
humans have on the ecosystem and vice versa. The realistic view of what is happening is that citizens
are innovating having the tendency to litter, industries are being created causing pollution and oil
spills, malls are being made while parks and forests are being cut down for parking. With this said, the
ecosystem is, in reality, the reason for the diseases affecting human health. As the environment
changes in the community, the human species struggle to adapt and accommodate themselves because
of pollution in the air, land, and water causing problems such as Cancer, Asthma, and other diseases.
Although the environment impacts human health, the human community is also having a drastic
impact on the environment because of gentrification, innovation, and accommodation.
The impact that the environment has on human health is just as drastic as humanity having an impact
on the environment. In

South Africa s secondary schooling system, in particular of the education in the sciences and
mathematics, was recently ranked among the lowest in the 2013 World Economic Forum Global

in many countries within Sub Saharan Africa. This is because teacher salaries have not kept up with
the high inflation rates in these countries, leaving the best teachers to search for better jobs or
emigrate. This then results in less prepared students and by the time they reach grade twelve, the
failure rate has increased to 50 percent. The reason for the high failure rate is most African students

the Pacific Ocean. This whale belongs to the dolphin family, and is considered the largest in that
family. The whale is also known as orca and has teeth. Most of them feed on diverse diet, but
individual whales have their own prey. There are those who feed on fish, while others hunt for
dolphins and seals. They are known as apex predators because no animal can dare to prey on them.
They are cosmopolitan and can be found on any ocean in the world.
These whales are social and live together in matrilineal groups. They are known because of the

Term Control Essay
Clearly define the term control in the context of an organization. Give examples and lucid explanation
of the various types of control that can be used by a Manager. Why is the control function so very
important to the effectiveness and efficiency of an organization?
According to Robbins Coulter, control refers to the process of monitoring, comparing and correcting
work performances.
The control process is a three step process of measuring actual performance, comparing actual
performance against a standard and taking managerial action to correct deviations or to address
inadequate standards.
The process assumes that performance standards already exist. For the most part they do as the
organization would have set goals and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A manager who has responsibility for cleaning would walk around to check the work done by
frontline staff and assign persons to areas not completed. Another example would be on an assembly
line where the manager can see the items before they are completed and correct any defects and make
any adjustments before the products are released for distribution.
Feedback control is the most popular type of control and as the name implies it relies on feedback.
With this concept control takes place after the activity is done. An example of this would be the
Toyota recall situation where based on feedback from customers (in the form of complaints), the
company sought to correct the problem after the product had reached the consumer. With this type of
control, there can be significant damage or wastage which can come at a high cost. However, feedback
control does have some advantages as it gives the manager valuable information or insight into how
effective the planning was. The manager can compare actual performance to planned performance. If
the variance is minor then it can be said that performance was on target. However if the variance is
major then the manager can use that information to implement or update his plans as required.
The control function is therefore very important to the effectiveness and efficiency of an organization.
As the final step in the management process, control

contamination of groundwater resources from the chemicals and water used to in the process of

Prison Has A Huge Problem Within The United States
The United States is the world s leader of incarceration with 2.2 million people in jails and prisons;
having an increase in population rate of 500% over the past thirty years (The Sentencing Project,
2014). Of the 2.2 million individuals in these facilities, over one million are mentally ill persons.
According to the National Institute of Corrections, mentally ill offenders have strained the correctional
system. Since the deinstitutionalization of mentally ill from public hospitals in the 1990s, civilians
with mental health issues are more likely to be free in the community, without any programming and
are more likely to inflict in criminal behavior. The prison population rate for mentally ill offender
makes up more than half the overall population. 78,000 in Federal prison, 705,600 in State prisons,
and 479,000 in local jails. Overcrowding prison has become a huge problem within the United States,
which lead to seeking in alternative options. Since there isn t enough space or resources applicable to
provide for all those who are diagnosed with mental issues, a shift to community supervision have
taken place; probation and parole being the greatest form of supervision. The National Institute of

The Value Of Retaining Employees

important retention tips that will keep employees happy; build relationships, offer praise, listen, create

Building relationships and sharing information allows employees to feel appreciated and important.
Another way to strengthen employee retention is to offer praise. Offering praise helps build morale.
Employees need to feel appreciated when they do a job well done. Another important tip Michaud
discusses is for employers to listen to their employees. Employees will be open to discuss their needs
and wants about job related issues. It s important to listen and understand what they are saying and not
dismiss their thoughts as unimportant. Michaud goes on to say that one of the easiest ways to retain
employees is to create a fun work environment. Having fun at work creates a bond by making people
feel a part of things. Studies have shown that humor also helps alleviate stress (Michaud 2000). The
last tip discussed in the article is to continue to strengthen the team. Any company is only as strong as
the weakest employee so it s important to hire those people whose strengths are the company s
weaknesses. Employers need to do whatever they can to keep their current staff while attracting the
best possible applicants for future employment. This study matches my expectations. In my
workplace, the most common reason for employee turnover is due to relationship conflicts. Most of
the conflicts that occur within this organization revolve around a lack of proper communication and
trust. Employees respond better to those

Competitive Advantage Of Apple
Part A: Blog entries
Product Apple
Launching a product which meets and even exceeds customer needs is crucial to the success of a
company. An example of that type of company is Apple. The American based technological giant has
been dominating the market for years and there are several reasons for that. Firstly, Apple s products
make their users feel unique. It is the brand name and the quality, associated with it, that make people
love Apple. What is more, Apple has a lot of technological advantages and resources, for example,
they were the first company to launch a tablet the iPad. Finally, they have a lot of skills in terms of
knowledge and creativity of their employees. All of the above mentioned reasons provide Apple with a
competitive advantage.
I bought my first iPhone five years ago. At that time, I would have never thought that I would want to
use Apple products for the rest of my life. What I enjoy most about this product is its simplicity as
well as the amazing opportunities it gives to me. From guiding me through my jogging routine in the
park to finishing an assignment on my morning commute I can always count on my iPhone.

Savagery In Super Disasters Of The 21st Century
An unwavering fear pounds at your heart, as loud as the howling wind outside. The thought of losing
those whom you hold dearest mercilessly tugs at your thoughts. Outside, the cries of agony and
despair have now become a desperate, helpless song that only adds to your horror and fear. Can you
imagine? It is very difficult to fully envision disaster at such enormous proportions, but authors
Jacqueline Adams, Ken Kostel, and Sebastian Junger utilize different writing approaches to reveal the
true colors of nature s savagery. In the excerpt Super Disasters of the 21st Century, Adams and Kostel
employ scientific information and statistics, ingenious subheadings, and loaded language to compel
their audiences; whereas Junger takes a slightly more personal twist along with the expected in an

The Consumer Culture Final Project
Consumer Culture Final Project
This semester having to track all of my buying has been very helpful and eye opening. I was able to
break down all of my buying into 8 categories; clothes, food (groceries), food (restaurants),
entertainment, gas, gym, miscellaneous, and school. I was able to conclude that most of my purchases
were paid with a debit card with the exception of my school payments. Most of my purchases were in
store with the exception of a few purchases online. The majority of my purchases were wants and not
necessities, and after doing this project throughout the semester I have a lot of unnecessary buying.
This paper is a reflection of all of my buying.
This graph is a visual of the overall amount spent through the semester. Looking at the entire semester
I spent a total of $5,668. I spent $308 on clothes in store and online, $459 on food in the grocery store,
$562 on food in multiple restaurants and fast food, $1,049 on entertainment like my vacation and
movies, $340 on gas, $177 on the gym, $123 on miscellaneous items from CVS or 7 eleven, and
$2,650 on school tuition. The overall amount surprised me because I did not even think I earned this
much in the semester. It makes me very uncomfortable because there is a lot of money spent on
unnecessary things. For example, I spent $562 on food from restaurants. This is so highly unnecessary
because I also spent $459 on groceries. The category where I spent the most money was school
tuition, which is expected.

The Threat Of The Patriot Act
I Spy After the terrorist attacks of September 11th 2001, an American public was shocked,
flabbergasted, and lost for words for the first time since Pearl Harbor. Out of these fears the PATRIOT
act was conceived; promising to help stop future terrorist plots the bill was initially met with high
praise from the public and media. It was not for another decade that the side effects of the patriot act
were revealed to the world. The American public was appalled at the circumvention of their fourth
Amendment rights. Still there is a clear divide between those who believe that the National Security
Agency Is not violating the constitution and what they are doing is good for the betterment of the
country and those who believe that their privacy and undeniable American freedoms were violated in
part of the NSA spying with both parties bringing their own views and ideals to the field. The
September eleventh attacks were the beginning of the end of privacy for American citizens the
PATRIOT act which was signed a month later granted full access to the phones and computers of the
people. It took over a decade for the public to become aware of the illegal spying that the NSA had
conducted. The NSA spying is a complicated and controversial matter while there have been several
judicial courts that have ruled against the spying there has also been just as many cases of the court s
finding the spying constitutional. The fourth amendment was put into place as a way for Americans to

Peter V. North Carolina Case Analysis
In the case of Peter v. North Carolina, we the jury find Michael Peterson not guilty of first degree
murder of his wife Katherine Peterson. The information that was presented in this case does not prove
beyond a reasonable doubt that Michael was motivated by an act of malice when he had decided to
take away the life of a loved one. Because of this occurence, Michael is currently facing another trial
in order to see if he is guilty for a crime he did not commit. As a jury, we cannot condone the act of
putting an innocent bystander in a position to be imprisoned if he is not condemned of the charges that
is handed down from court. Convicting Michael as a murderer in this case would take away the
freedom that he deserves and distort the peaceful atmosphere that surrounds his family.
Keeping this in mind, we need to come to an understanding that being in a jury carries a lot of weight
because a decision we make will bring forth life changing consequences. The prosecutors in this case
believe that Katherine was beaten by Michael in an act of malice. In an effort to support their case,
they have presented evidence that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

accident. As a jury, we reviewed the defenses owl theory, their take on the peterson s financial

The Issue Of Personal Identity Essay
If persons persist over time then by what criteria do we determine their identity at different times?
This is the issue of personal identity over time which continues to plague philosophers. What is it that
allows me to say I am the same person today as I was yesterday or I will be tomorrow? Am I actually
the same person? There has been no general consensus on the answer to this question. However many
have proposed solutions to this question. When it comes to this hard problem of why persons last or
persist over time there are two opposing points of view points. There is the perdurance or four
dimensionalism view, which maintains that objects persist as a series of temporal parts that are simply
related to each other. The other view is that of endurance which states that objects endure over time by
being wholly present at each and every time they exist and must be numerically identical to each other
in order to be the same thing, in such a way that they are one and the same. This paper seeks to
explore what is the criterion or criteria of person identity by which we determine one person at one
time and a person at another time to be one and the same. In order to answer this question the
perdurance and endurance approaches to the problem of personal identity over time will be explored.
These views will be explored through the discussion of four prominent philosophers in the views. In
this paper I will propose ultimately Rosenkranzt s endurance view, the theory of

Essay On American Economic Development
On June 29, 1956, the Federal Aid Highway Act was passed allowing for the construction of the
Interstate Highway System. These limited access highways would open the door for economic
development across the country with their higher speeds and consistent route across state lines. In
1960, after the development of the interstates had yielded early promising economic results, a group of
governors in Appalachia met with Presidential Candidate John F. Kennedy to discuss the needs of their
impoverished people. The poverty of the Appalachian region was a dark spot on a nation that was
experiencing so much success in the post World War II era. After the lack of success of an earlier

The first efforts to create a national highway network was started by the American Association of State
Highway Officials in 1914, founded by Logan Waller Page, with public support of The Good Roads
Movement, led by John Hollis Bankhead. Along with avid motorist President Woodrow Wilson, the
men worked to establish state sponsored highway agencies to improve the transportation network
across the country to keep pace with the growing popularity of the automobile. With the help of these
men and their enthusiasm for well developed highways in America, the Federal Aid Road Act of 1916
(FARA 1916) was passed on July 11 providing the first federal funds towards highway construction
projects. The stated aim of the FARA 1916 was the improvement of postal roads to appeal to the rural
population, who had initially seen this as a project with the wealthy urbanites in mind. In the final
version of the approved bill, there were also provisions added to exclude the use of this federal
funding within city limits. This was done to ensure the funding would go towards improving access to
the most isolated locations with agriculture industries in mind. Additionally, there was heavy federal
oversight of the state projects utilizing these funds. All highway improvements were subject to final
approval by the Secretary of Agriculture. While these provisions would favor

Gay Rights Australia
MHIS109 Analysis
1) Gay rights have come a long way, but there s more to do by Greg Waters, Sydney Morning Herald
(2018), outlines a national journey but also personal journey of the author. Waters highlights how as a
nation, Australia has come so far since the 20th century in terms of gay rights, yet there is still more
work that needs to be done, to ensure all discrimination stops. Waters uses evidence from 1972 to
highlight how inhumanely gay people were treated, including being dismissed from employment for
being gay and that protestors against these practices were not looked upon favourably . In 2018
however, a big win for gay rights was the legalisation of gay marriage in 2017. Yet, he argues there is

Willett argues that the world view has changed, with the help of so many activists, bringing about
fundamental changes in society s attitudes. Willett talks about the changes made up until 1997,
however since then attitudes and legislation relating to homosexual people has become even more
understanding and tolerant. In the early 20th century, gay and lesbian people were marginalised to the
point of invisibility and demonization . He argues that before 1975, homosexual laws were some of
the harshest laws that the government introduced. This was because there was a general sense of
homophobia after the 1960 s, calling homosexual behaviour, sexual depravity. He cites Barry York
demanding conjugal rights for prisoners to prevent prisons from being breeding grounds for
homosexuality . He also draws on the homosexual attitudes in the paper, such as the Tribune in 1973
which states how John Sendy wanted the government to oppose gay liberation . However, Willett also
uses evidence of people trying to change this law and fight for gay rights, such as Whitlam in 1970,
who expressed support for decriminalisation of homosexual acts, and how in 1972, Lex Watson set out
law reform abolishing all laws regarding discrimination against gay couples and sexual orientation,
race and marriage status. He demanded public education campaign in schools to eradicate anti gay
attitudes. Willett suggests these actions helped to reshape Australian society creating more
understanding. By 1997 there was wider public acceptance and tolerance of homosexual people, with
Mardi Gras parade being popularised, the decriminalisation of male homosexual behaviour,
acceptance of lesbians and the recognition of gay custody rights in families and much stronger anti
discrimination laws, all creating a powerful sense

Cinderella Comparison
Emily Martin
Mrs. Rogers
W131 Period 1
20 November 2017
Comparative Analysis of Cinderella All people recognize the charming story of Cinderella, and at its
core, it is a story that relates to the hearts of all societies worldwide. The magic that transforms an
underprivileged girl into an affluent beauty captures the attention of a prince, but outside of the story,
it also mesmerizes readers in their pursuit of their own happily ever afters. In America s Cinderella ,
Jane Yolen expounds upon the true nature of Cinderella that is hidden from modern, American society
but lives in the tales of other cultures. She criticizes the modern, mass marketed version of Cinderella
that is leading society to a false hope in America. Also, an art historian, Bonnie Cullen, writes about
the Cinderella tale. In The Rise of Perrault s Cinderella , Cullen investigates how Charles Perrault s
version of Cinderella grew to its fame and how the story was affected by the Victorian Era. Both
authors see the Cinderella story in diverse colors; however despite all controversies, the enchanting
tale of Cinderella continues to thrive in modern society. As an example, Ever After, directed by Andy
Tennant, came to theaters and restored the obsession with Cinderella. In the movie, the Cinderella
story is given a transformation: fresh colors, heroic protagonists, deceitful enemies, and glitzy
clothing. However, the story maintains the Cinderella plot. Like most Cinderella stories, Danielle, the
main character, is forced into servitude by the hands of an evil stepmother after the passing of
Cinderella s beloved father, but her life changes when she meets Prince Charming. While audiences
can see that Ever After parallels Perrault s version of Cinderella and contains the necessary ingredients
for the traditional story, the main character, Danielle, exhibits new, contemporary attributes that alter
the personality of a standard Cinderella figure, but ultimately, Danielle still falls victim to Victorian
ideology. Following Perrault s guidelines for Cinderella, Ever After shapes itself around this
traditional influence. A fairy godmother takes shape in the creative, wise Leonardo da Vinci. Mice
from Perrault s version are converted into

The United Kingdom s constitution was written in 1215 and was last revised in 2013. This shows that
the rule of law has remain relatively consistent besides being updated to keep up with the times. China
s constitution was adopted in 1982 and revised in 2004, which shows that China s current rule of law

What types of rights are protected by the different constitutions? (political, economic, or/and social)
In the United Kingdom s constitution, the people are given rights such as the right to life, thought,
religion, and expression. The citizens of the People s Republic of China are allowed freedom of
speech, press, assembly, association, precession, demonstration and religious belief.
4. Out of the two constitutions you looked at, which provided the greatest amount of protection?
The United Kingdom s constitution provided more protection because in China, the central governing
party is the Communist Party and although power is given to the National People s Congress to make
decisions, most of those members belong to the founding Communist Party.
5. What do you think is missing from the two documents?
The People s Republic of China s constitution does declare it a socialist state and gives power to the
National People s Congress, but is missing the fact that all power is given to the Communist Party.
The constitution of the United Kingdom is missing a single document to represent the constitution
because it is made up of so many different documents.

Example Of Discourse Community
INTRODUCTION: Finding people who share common interests and enjoy the same activities as
yourself can often be difficult to find, but is necessary to have. Especially during college, a time where
you are receiving your independence, but unsure of what that truly means, feeling lonely is valid and
expected. However, college can offer many resources to aid you in these emotions, by having plenty
of discourse communities you can join, or even offering you the opportunity to create your own. As
quoted by Herzberg in The Concept of Discourse Community, the idea of a discourse community is
not well defined yet (469). Despite the vague concept John Swales offers, he further goes on to
elaborate on what six characteristics discourse communities can be identified through. A discourse
community which one of my roommates participates in is the Vietnamese Student Association (VSA).
The VSA is a cultural club for students at University of California, Davis, who identify as Vietnamese,
and want to come together with others a part of the same background. The VSA is a perfect model of a

Chapter 2 Of The Annual Shape Trip-Personal Narrative
It was day 2 of the annual canoe trip that my Boy Scout troop goes on. I was in a kayak because of a
lack of canoes. The day started out with a cold and groggy morning. The scouts ventured out to find
wood to start a fire with, and the adults began to fix breakfast and their morning cup of coffee. After
the boys had gathered enough wood for a fire, and the adults had breakfast prepared to be cooked, the
scouts constructed a roaring fire for everyone to cook their food over. Breakfast was set to be fish.
Since we were without any electronics or cooking devices, we made hobo packs, which consisted of

Distracted Driving Capstone Project
For my capstone project, I chose to focus on distracted driving. The reason I chose this topic is
because I feel that this is a very well known issue that people do not think about. Many people may
look at their phone, change their radio station, or program GPS systems without thinking of the
dangers of it. I chose this topic in order to try and make people think about what they are doing, and
this may prevent accidents and fatalities in the future. Prior to researching my topic, I knew that
distracted driving was a serious matter, but I never thought too much of it. As a passenger in the car
with adults and friends, I always saw them changing the radio station, talking on the phone, or texting,
but never saw it as that big of a deal. As I watched the news, I used to see inventions and software

ecosystem has changed to include a larger audience and usability has trumped technological
superiority as a key metric in generating buyer interest. In 2008, Nintendo s Wii had 2 times the
market share that Sony s offering, the Play Station 3, had. I feel Sony should assess the following
options. (1) Focus on catering to its niche advance game segment and focus on leveraging its progress
form the previous 2 generations. (2) Respond to Wii onslaught by developing its previous generation
console to include a low end offering that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Sony must focus on remaining in this unique segment and leveraging its perceived uniqueness as a
technology leader. Instead of competing on Nintendo s terms, Sony should not react but exercise
Ukemi by furthering its position in the serious gaming segment.
It is notable (From Exhibit 2b in the Responding to Wii case Harvard Business Review) that Nintendo
has been successful in keeping positive operating profits despite being a weak competitor during the
previous 2 generations. Nintendo has shown prudence in waiting out 2 battles and coming up with a
unique offering which has changed the way the market perceives gaming. Sony should concede defeat
this generation of gaming, while maintaining balance through strong service to existing market.
Sony should target the serious gamers and not react to Wii in terms of re assessing its differentiation
strategy.
The positioning question
While Sony is losing market share in the console market, it is winning the Battle for the living room
with Microsoft. With momentum gained from the previous 2 generations and technological superiority
of Sony s offering, Microsoft has taken a bigger blow, with almost double the operating loss of Sony.
(Sony operating loss of $1246.1 M vs Microsoft $2066 M, from Exhibit 2b in the Responding to Wii
case Harvard Business Review).
Sony has a broad offering in consumer electronics segment that it can leverage to provide a

Reducing and Controlling The Impact Factory Production on...
According to the observation, the factory gave attention to bring improvements on the environmental
consequences. Some of them are the factory invest on a new plant (line two) with maximum dedusting
mechanisms such as filter bags with additional dedusting systems. In addition, the factory planned and
starts to construct biomass as a source of energy. It decided to use 40:60 ratio of biomass to coal
during clinker production. This implementing of biomass as source of energy can reduce impacts of
coal dust and other coal related problem to the surrounding environment. Moreover, the factory
established environmental regulatory body as occupational health and safety. One of the experts
assigned in the division is environmentalist. This shows ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Typically the dust control bags in the new line have maximum controlling efficiency. Comparatively,
according the data from the employee and community survey there is a significance impact dust
particulate to the surrounding environment. Therefore, it is better to rethink on the filter bags
performance. In addition, regular maintenance and quick replacement of filter bags is necessary.
Practically the ESP found in the old line in addition to some filter bags has less performance on
dedusting. Dust emission is observed continuously due to malfunction of this device. Therefor this
ESP way of dedusting is better to change or supported by other dedusting device. While the factory
starts to investigate and allocate budget on the improvement of the ESP, it is delayed to implement. It
needs urgent decision making to substitute it.
3. Management of transformed materials. Some of the sources of dust emission are the way how to
handle materials especially the transformed materials such as pet coke and black coal. The factory
transformed from pet coke and black coal coming from South Africa to local black coal. Some of the
pet coke and black coal from South Africa accumulated without function and poor handling in the
factory compound. It is better to take measures on these transformed materials urgently.
4. Road Safety. Some of the roads are not fully covered

Annotated Bibliography Death And Dying Analysis
Annotated Bibliography: Death and Dying
Corr, C. A., Corr, D. M., Bordere, T. C. (2013). Death dying, life living. Belmont, CA: Wadsworth,
Cengage Learning.
According to Corr, Corr, and Bordere (2013), death is a term that is used to indicate one s end of life,
while dying is the process that one undergoes before he or she loses his or her life. The author talks
the reader the numerous aspects of death and dying, as well as bereavement. This book incorporates
classical and modern material, contemporary task based methods for a person or family coping with
death. The article is divided into sub sections including introduction chapters and conclusion chapters,
which revolve around the subject of death and how people, including relatives of the deceased,
survive. There are four chapters in this book which explain how children, teenagers, young, and
middle aged adults cope with death. From this point of view, it is clear that this book discusses various
aspects of religious and cultural perspective that affects one s understanding as well as the practices
associated with death.
Even though death is inevitable, it is quite clear that people can devise methods under which they can
cope with the loss of their loved ones; for instance, their immediate relatives if not friends. Drawing
practical guidelines from this book, one can constructively come up with communication strategies
that may have encouragement to those who have lost their loved ones. This initiative encourages

The Causes Of The Treaty Of Versailles
After Germany lost WWI, the Germans were forced to sign a treaty, which blamed Germany for
starting the war. The Treaty of Versailles was signed June 28,1919 in the Hall of Mirrors at the Palace
of Versailles (see figure 1). The signing of the treaty was attended by 3 important world leaders:
President Wilson from the USA, Lloyd George from Britain, and Clemenceau from France. However,
they all signed the treaty for different reasons. Wilson believed in self determination and thought that
people should have their own ethnic boundaries, so he wanted an ethnic boundary for Poland. Lloyd
George wanted to stop the rise of Russia with Cordon Sanitaire, and Clemenceau wanted to punish
Germany as revenge, and giving Poland back its land ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Germans were forced to give up so much because of the treaty. For example, they were forced to
pay $30 billion to the Allies (Grenville 59 71). German shipyards would have to construct 200,000
tons of new shipping per year and hand it over to the Allies, free of charge. (Hay 100). The problem
though, was that Germany lost land, colonies, and coal fields, and by punishing Germany, the Allies
also took away Germany s way for paying the reparations. The Germans were also not allowed to have
warplanes, tanks, and submarines. Because of the treaty, Germany lost land in Africa, Asia, and also
Alsace and Lorraine to France (Grenville 39). Germany lost all her colonies and was split by the
Polish Corridor so Poland could have access to the sea. WWII was fought by Germany to gain back
what was lost in WWI, so Versailles was to blame for WWII. Germany fought specifically in the
second war to reverse the verdict of the first and to destroy the settlement which followed it (Taylor
41), so the two wars were linked. Woodrow Wilson, who signed the treaty, said, No people must be
forced under sovereignty under which it does not wish to live (Spielvogel 745), and he believed in self
determination, but Poland was taken away from Germany so the Polish people would have Poland
again, and yet Germany was not allowed an anschluss with Austria, even though Austrians spoke

Preventing Obesity Epidemic
Since the issue of obesity remains prevalent, there are leading experts in the field of health sciences
and exercise physiology who have tried to prevent obesity from increasing. These experts want to stop
the obesity epidemic, but they have different approaches to solving the issue. One of the methods that
have been working towards becoming a solution was the development of obesity preventing drugs .
The experimental use of drugs was run by experts that are a part of the FDA( Food and Drink
Administration), they believed that there were many different solutions, and that one of the most
effective would be a weight loss drug.(Food and Drink Administration). However, these drugs were
often failures and deemed unsafe and ineffective on their ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Americans have become used to the normalcy of a complicated lifestyle, and have lost values that
were once embraced. There have been people who have tried to slow the increasing obesity rates, but
none are willing to put in the effort and time to stop the epidemic. The hesitation to putting a stop of
increasing obesity rates is evident in the ever increasing obesity rates. There are too few people who
are willing to make the choice to fight against the issue of obesity. It has become more and more
normal to the American people. As Emerson wrote in his piece Self Reliance there are many choices
that a person can make on their own that will allow them to till the piece of land that is given to him .
In other words, everyone is given a life that allows them to make choices that will affect the rest of
their lives. So, the best option is to till the ground to receive the nourishing corn . And in order to till
the piece of land that they are given they must make choices that will benefit them. In that same way,
there are choices that people can make that will allow them to lead a healthy

Homeland Security Pros And Cons
Security, however you may think of it the measures we take for it can never enough. It s like insurance
you have it not because you want something to happen but because you know that things do happen.
That is the United States Border Patrol and Customs they are our first line of defense to the war on
drugs and the war on terrorism, for that they have the illegal immigration policy and the pros and cons
(www.kyma.com/news/securing america/646148044.). After decades of just being a category of police
but finally they became part of the homeland security on november, 25, 2005, homeland security was
created to help prevent such acts as 9/11, or the attack on the oklahoma city bombing, from happening
from another country. The united states border patrol was created to help stop the drug trafficking and
weapon trafficking into the united states. The department of homeland security helps protect the
people of the united states (www.kyma.com/news/securing america/646148044.).
The Department of Customs and Border Patrol has control over almost all of the illegal immigration
policy (IIP) in the united states although the Coast Guard and a few other agencies have control over
their own type of illegal immigration policy. According to cbp.gov, Since its inception in 1924, the
U.S. Border Patrol has had a proud history of service to our nation. Although more and more people
cross or attempt to cross the border the U.S Border Patrol tries to make an effort to stop and

  • 2. Inter Team Conflicts And Interpersonal Conflicts When a group of people is brought together to form a team it is inevitable that some type of conflict will arise. Every member of a team has value and each one must understand that a team without conflict is necessary to accomplish the goal at hand (Mosley, 2005). There are multiple things that can lead to conflicts and leaders must recognize these to have an effective team. As a result of this, the leader must take into account everyone s background and experience level as the team is formed. This paper will discuss the inter team conflicts, interpersonal conflicts, why policies are created and ways a leader can prevent conflicts from happening. Inter team Conflict Conflict in teams can have an adverse effect on a team s performance. As a leader, it is imperative to manage conflict and handle matters before they become unmanageable. Assessing and managing inter team conflicts before they arise is critical when stopping conflicts (Hoegl, Weinkauf Gemuenden, 2004). When conflict occurs, the trigger or event could be very minor and seem insignificant at the time. However, if the conflict is not resolved quickly, it could build up over time, creating a snowball effect. After this happens, it s a matter of time before the conflict reaches a tipping point and emotions flare up. Conflict can result from a variety of events or situations. These could arise as a result of misinformation, a misunderstanding between team members, or a lack of clear and concise ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Summary Of The Veldt By Ray Bradbury Bradbury s Words to You Desmond Tutu, a South African leader once said, You do not choose your family. They are God s gift to you, as you are to them. In the short story The Veldt , Ray Bradbury conveys the idea that no material object that has ever been crafted, is more valuable than your family because your family provides you with vital growth. He does this by telling the tragic tale of parents Lydia and George who are killed by their spoiled and technology obsessed children, Wendy and Peter. Through foreshadow, symbolism and imagery, Bradbury believes that kids need to respect their parents, otherwise there will be grave consequences. Bradbury uses the term The Happy House in an ironic manner to foreshadow the very unhappy demise of the Hadley family. The Hadley s home consists of an abundance of high technological machines to do all the work around the house for them, called the Happylife Home . The description of the house provides the reader with an understanding that the family is very lazy for having machines doing all the work for them as they are described as ... the house that bathed and fed them and was good to them . However, despite the comforts this home brings, the Hadley parents become more and more worried with the machines throughout the story. The beginning of the story foreshadows this: George, I wish you d look at the nursery. What s wrong with it? I don t know. I just want you to look at it, is all, or call a psychologist in to look at it. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Romeo And Juliet Tragic Tragedy To believe in love, to be ready to give up anything for it, to be willing to risk your life for it, is the ultimate tragedy (DiCaprio). In both of these stories there is the similarity of young love ending in tragedy. Both sets of lovers feel defined by nothing but their weaknesses. Romeo feels like he can never be enough for Juliet because he is just a Montague. Being a Montague is what he lets define him. Hazel feels as if she can never be known as anything besides a cancer patient. She lets this define her. Romeo and Juliet could never be together because of their families, and Hazel and Augustus could never be together because of their diseases. In both cases fate was not on their side. Romeo is cursed by his last name as Augustus is cursed by his cancer. Romeos last name Montague is his cancer. In the stories Romeo and Juliet and The fault in our Stars the author reveals that going through tragedy is worth it for love. Romeo and Juliet were cursed by their families names. They knew in their hearts that because of this affliction that their love was doomed from the beginning. But they also new that it was going to be worth it in the end to them. Come, gentle night, come, loving, black brow d night, Give me my Romeo; and, when he shall die, Take him and cut him out in little stars, And he will make the face of heaven so fine That all the world will be in love with night And pay no worship to the garish sun. • 8. The Contributions Of The Progressive Era Taking place in the United States between the 1890s and the 1920s, the Progressive Era was a period characterized by political reform and social activism. Due to the popularity of the Progressive ideals during this time period, American citizens elected for president candidates, such as Roosevelt, Taft, and Wilson, who subscribed to these ideals. Of the three Progressive presidents, Wilson was the most effective when it came to addressing the major issues of the late 19th and early 20th centuries, as many reforms were enacted during his presidency, including reforms related to his New Freedom program, despite the controversy surrounding the majority of these reforms. During his two terms of presidency, Wilson fared well in terms of persuading the Congress, which had mostly consisted of conservative Democrats, to pass acts that adhered to the Progressive legislative agenda. However, this can be partially attributed to the fact that many of these acts were aligned with the ideals of Democrats. Some of the issues that characterized the period between the late 1890s and the early 1920s were economic inequities, poor working conditions, and insufficient social welfare. Progressive reformers sought to foster efficiency, protect social welfare, promote moral development, and secure economic reform. As one can see, the Progressive reformers were focused on properly addressing the major issues of the time period. Therefore, it can be assumed that President ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Who Is David Adjaye Sunken House Sunken House Analysis One of the things that most architects strive to achieve in their work is to make it stand out and really add to its location s surroundings. This was definitely accomplished by David Adjaye in his Sunken House project. In 2007, Adjaye designed a house for photographer Ed Reeve which is why today it is also called Ed s Shed. However, the Sunken House is also a very deserving name. On the lot there was a space already dug out for a basement foundation, however Adjaye had no intentions of including some traditional basement. Ultimately the end result or final product can reflect to the process and the journey made to get to it, which is just another outstanding design reflected in Adjaye s project. In conclusion there are many innovative or modernized design styles of Adjaye in this Sunken House project, and many of his other projects reflect similar design concepts. The first is a chemical buffer, the second line of defence is the respiratory system, and last is the urinary system. These three mechanisms work together to keep body pH within that narrow range. However our bodies are very sensitive to pH levels, so strong mechanisms are in place to in place to regulate it. If pH rises or falls outside acceptable ranges for a specific part of the body, proteins and enzymes may become denatured and lose their ability to function. This could lead to serious damage or death. That is why it s absolutely essential that our body has a homeostatic mechanism to regulate the correct acid base balance. One mechanism the body uses to control blood pH involves the release of carbon dioxide from the lungs. Carbon dioxide, which is mildly acidic and is a waste product of the metabolism of oxygen which all cells need and is constantly produced by cells. As with all the waste products, carbon dioxide gets excreted into the blood. The blood carries carbon dioxide to the lungs, where it is exhaled. As carbon dioxide accumulates in the blood, the pH of the blood decreases (acidity increases). The brain regulates the amount of carbon dioxide that is exhaled by controlling the speed and depth of breathing. The amount of carbon dioxide exhaled, and consequently the pH of the blood, increases as breathing becomes faster and deeper. By adjusting the speed and depth of breathing, the brain and lungs are able to regulate the blood pH minute by minute. The kidneys are able to affect blood pH by excreting excess acids or bases. The kidneys have some ability to alter the amount of acid or base that is excreted, but because the kidneys make these adjustments more slowly than the lungs do, this compensation generally takes several ... Why is the control function so very important to the effectiveness and efficiency of an organization? According to Robbins Coulter, control refers to the process of monitoring, comparing and correcting work performances. A manager who has responsibility for cleaning would walk around to check the work done by frontline staff and assign persons to areas not completed. Another example would be on an assembly line where the manager can see the items before they are completed and correct any defects and make any adjustments before the products are released for distribution. Feedback control is the most popular type of control and as the name implies it relies on feedback. With this concept control takes place after the activity is done. An example of this would be the Toyota recall situation where based on feedback from customers (in the form of complaints), the company sought to correct the problem after the product had reached the consumer. With this type of control, there can be significant damage or wastage which can come at a high cost. However, feedback control does have some advantages as it gives the manager valuable information or insight into how effective the planning was. The manager can compare actual performance to planned performance. If the variance is minor then it can be said that performance was on target. However if the variance is major then the manager can use that information to implement or update his plans as required. The control function is therefore very important to the effectiveness and efficiency of an organization. As the final step in the management process, control ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The overall amount surprised me because I did not even think I earned this much in the semester. It makes me very uncomfortable because there is a lot of money spent on unnecessary things. For example, I spent $562 on food from restaurants. This is so highly unnecessary because I also spent $459 on groceries. • 26. The Threat Of The Patriot Act I Spy After the terrorist attacks of September 11th 2001, an American public was shocked, flabbergasted, and lost for words for the first time since Pearl Harbor. Out of these fears the PATRIOT act was conceived; promising to help stop future terrorist plots the bill was initially met with high praise from the public and media. It was not for another decade that the side effects of the patriot act were revealed to the world. The American public was appalled at the circumvention of their fourth Amendment rights. Still there is a clear divide between those who believe that the National Security Agency Is not violating the constitution and what they are doing is good for the betterment of the country and those who believe that their privacy and undeniable American freedoms were violated in part of the NSA spying with both parties bringing their own views and ideals to the field. The September eleventh attacks were the beginning of the end of privacy for American citizens the PATRIOT act which was signed a month later granted full access to the phones and computers of the people. It took over a decade for the public to become aware of the illegal spying that the NSA had conducted. The information that was presented in this case does not prove beyond a reasonable doubt that Michael was motivated by an act of malice when he had decided to take away the life of a loved one. Because of this occurence, Michael is currently facing another trial in order to see if he is guilty for a crime he did not commit. As a jury, we cannot condone the act of putting an innocent bystander in a position to be imprisoned if he is not condemned of the charges that is handed down from court. Convicting Michael as a murderer in this case would take away the freedom that he deserves and distort the peaceful atmosphere that surrounds his family. Keeping this in mind, we need to come to an understanding that being in a jury carries a lot of weight because a decision we make will bring forth life changing consequences. The prosecutors in this case believe that Katherine was beaten by Michael in an act of malice. In an effort to support their case, they have presented evidence that ... • 29. The Issue Of Personal Identity Essay If persons persist over time then by what criteria do we determine their identity at different times? This is the issue of personal identity over time which continues to plague philosophers. What is it that allows me to say I am the same person today as I was yesterday or I will be tomorrow? Am I actually the same person? There has been no general consensus on the answer to this question. However many have proposed solutions to this question. When it comes to this hard problem of why persons last or persist over time there are two opposing points of view points. There is the perdurance or four dimensionalism view, which maintains that objects persist as a series of temporal parts that are simply related to each other. The other view is that of endurance which states that objects endure over time by being wholly present at each and every time they exist and must be numerically identical to each other in order to be the same thing, in such a way that they are one and the same. This paper seeks to explore what is the criterion or criteria of person identity by which we determine one person at one time and a person at another time to be one and the same. In order to answer this question the perdurance and endurance approaches to the problem of personal identity over time will be explored. These views will be explored through the discussion of four prominent philosophers in the views. In this paper I will propose ultimately Rosenkranzt s endurance view, the theory of ... These limited access highways would open the door for economic development across the country with their higher speeds and consistent route across state lines. In 1960, after the development of the interstates had yielded early promising economic results, a group of governors in Appalachia met with Presidential Candidate John F. With the help of these men and their enthusiasm for well developed highways in America, the Federal Aid Road Act of 1916 (FARA 1916) was passed on July 11 providing the first federal funds towards highway construction projects. The stated aim of the FARA 1916 was the improvement of postal roads to appeal to the rural population, who had initially seen this as a project with the wealthy urbanites in mind. In the final version of the approved bill, there were also provisions added to exclude the use of this federal funding within city limits. This was done to ensure the funding would go towards improving access to the most isolated locations with agriculture industries in mind. Gay Rights Australia MHIS109 Analysis 1) Gay rights have come a long way, but there s more to do by Greg Waters, Sydney Morning Herald (2018), outlines a national journey but also personal journey of the author. Waters highlights how as a nation, Australia has come so far since the 20th century in terms of gay rights, yet there is still more work that needs to be done, to ensure all discrimination stops. Waters uses evidence from 1972 to highlight how inhumanely gay people were treated, including being dismissed from employment for being gay and that protestors against these practices were not looked upon favourably . In 2018 however, a big win for gay rights was the legalisation of gay marriage in 2017. Yet, he argues there is still so far to go, as in 2018, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Willett argues that the world view has changed, with the help of so many activists, bringing about fundamental changes in society s attitudes. Willett talks about the changes made up until 1997, however since then attitudes and legislation relating to homosexual people has become even more understanding and tolerant. In the early 20th century, gay and lesbian people were marginalised to the point of invisibility and demonization . He argues that before 1975, homosexual laws were some of the harshest laws that the government introduced. This was because there was a general sense of homophobia after the 1960 s, calling homosexual behaviour, sexual depravity. He cites Barry York demanding conjugal rights for prisoners to prevent prisons from being breeding grounds for homosexuality . He also draws on the homosexual attitudes in the paper, such as the Tribune in 1973 which states how John Sendy wanted the government to oppose gay liberation . However, Willett also uses evidence of people trying to change this law and fight for gay rights, such as Whitlam in 1970, who expressed support for decriminalisation of homosexual acts, and how in 1972, Lex Watson set out law reform abolishing all laws regarding discrimination against gay couples and sexual orientation, race and marriage status. He demanded public education campaign in schools to eradicate anti gay attitudes. Willett suggests these actions helped to reshape Australian society creating more understanding. By 1997 there was wider public acceptance and tolerance of homosexual people, with Mardi Gras parade being popularised, the decriminalisation of male homosexual behaviour, acceptance of lesbians and the recognition of gay custody rights in families and much stronger anti discrimination laws, all creating a powerful sense ... • 32. Cinderella Comparison Emily Martin Mrs. Rogers W131 Period 1 20 November 2017 Comparative Analysis of Cinderella All people recognize the charming story of Cinderella, and at its core, it is a story that relates to the hearts of all societies worldwide. The magic that transforms an underprivileged girl into an affluent beauty captures the attention of a prince, but outside of the story, it also mesmerizes readers in their pursuit of their own happily ever afters. In America s Cinderella , Jane Yolen expounds upon the true nature of Cinderella that is hidden from modern, American society but lives in the tales of other cultures. She criticizes the modern, mass marketed version of Cinderella that is leading society to a false hope in America. Also, an art historian, Bonnie Cullen, writes about the Cinderella tale. In The Rise of Perrault s Cinderella , Cullen investigates how Charles Perrault s version of Cinderella grew to its fame and how the story was affected by the Victorian Era. Both authors see the Cinderella story in diverse colors; however despite all controversies, the enchanting tale of Cinderella continues to thrive in modern society. As an example, Ever After, directed by Andy Tennant, came to theaters and restored the obsession with Cinderella. In the movie, the Cinderella story is given a transformation: fresh colors, heroic protagonists, deceitful enemies, and glitzy clothing. However, the story maintains the Cinderella plot. Like most Cinderella stories, Danielle, the main character, is forced into servitude by the hands of an evil stepmother after the passing of Cinderella s beloved father, but her life changes when she meets Prince Charming. While audiences can see that Ever After parallels Perrault s version of Cinderella and contains the necessary ingredients for the traditional story, the main character, Danielle, exhibits new, contemporary attributes that alter the personality of a standard Cinderella figure, but ultimately, Danielle still falls victim to Victorian ideology. Following Perrault s guidelines for Cinderella, Ever After shapes itself around this traditional influence. A fairy godmother takes shape in the creative, wise Leonardo da Vinci. However, college can offer many resources to aid you in these emotions, by having plenty of discourse communities you can join, or even offering you the opportunity to create your own.
