Wildland Firefighters Research Paper
The first cavalry of wildland firefighters began in August 1886 led by Captain Moses Harris from Troop M. When he took command of the group at
Yellowstone National Park, their job was to manage and protect the park. The cavalry remained there for the next 32 years. Quickly after the group s arrival,
they immediately began fighting wildfires all around the park. Here emerged the first group of wildland firefighters to be paid for their service. Workers began
to apply new regulations, including campfire restrictions when deemed absolutely necessary. These regulations are known as NFPA s which is an acronym for
National Fire Protection Association. In 1915 wildland had its first female personnel in the field. Her name was Durham and was a wife of one of the pioneer
rangers and her friend ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In 1918 fire towers began using table maps and an item called the Osborne Firefinder to accurately find fires. In 1923 the first fire weather warning service
was established in San Francisco established by U.S. Weather Bureau. In 1926 the first daily reporting of fire weather data was transmitted from forest service
field stations to the Weather Bureau. In 1927 the first recorded prescribed burn conducted by U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service wildlife biologists. In 1934
smokejumping was created by T.V. Pearson a local Forest Service Intermountain Regional Forester. Smokejumping is described as a quick means to provide
attack by parachuting wildland firefighters that are fresh and ready to work in rugged terrain. In 1935 the first fire retardant drop test was held but it was not

Sight And Survival Of Sight
Sight, for many people, is the one sense they feel would be the most difficult to live without. We rely on sight to read, find our way around, cook our meals, do
our jobs, and consume our entertainment. For many animals, their sense of sight is of vital importance for their survival. For example, hawks and eagles rely
on their incredible vision to spot prey from the sky. Large predatory cats, such as lions and jaguars, will use their improved night vision to hunt unsuspecting
prey in the dark. The loss of sight means almost certain death for a large amount of animals, as sight is mainly used for awareness of surroundings, avoiding
predators, and hunting prey. However, this is not to say that some creatures do not rely on sight to survive; many animals, such as shrimp and fish in low or
zero light environments have not evolved to have a sense of vision, but instead rely on other senses to understand their surroundings, find prey, or avoid
predators. Then again, sight is so important for survival on Earth that it has independently evolved across multiple species1; this is known as convergent
evolution. As Darwin puts it, the eye, such a perfect organ, being formed by natural selection seems ...absurd in the highest degree ,1 but true nonetheless.
Sight is one of the greatest and most complex marvels produced by natural selection.

Teaching Methods And Strategies For Teaching Styles
There has always been a debate on what kind of teaching styles work best, what the best curriculum to teach is, or how to effectively organize your classroom.
Yet, nobody has discovered what the most effective teaching methods are. As future teachers, we must constantly be making decisions that will shape us into
the teacher we would like to become. Over the course of the next four years, and even once we become teachers with classrooms of our own, we will be
exposed to many different teaching methods and strategies. There is no one right or wrong way to teach, and it is up to us to decide how we would like to
structure our classroom. While there are many teaching styles, it seems that there is predominantly two types of teachers according to John Dewey: those that
are reflective, and those that are not. Unreflective teachers tend to accept the routines that are given to them by the school they are working for. They spend
their days working to solve problems who have been created by others for them. Reflective teachers on the other hand, are constantly evaluating their beliefs,
teaching methods and behaviors and modifying those things so that it works with the situation they are in. Dewey believe that in order to be a reflective
teacher, you must have three different components to your attitude: open mindedness, responsibility, and wholeheartedness. In being open minded, you must
be willing to listen to both sides of the argument and willing to use an alternative way of

Alienation of Willy Loman in Arthur Miller s Death of a...
Willy s Loneliness and Alienation in Death of a Salesman
Willy Loman s feelings of alienation and loneliness are direct psychological results of his interaction with society and the conditions that are found within it.
Although, he does not necessarily have the ability or allow himself to have the ability to define his feelings as such, they are still very much a part of his
everyday existence. This is evident in his constant bragging and attempted compensation. He does not feel that he is truly a part of society. Indeed, he is not.
Miller himself seems to be saying that this is not necessarily a bad thing; this society is not that wonderful. Yet Willy still yearns to be like his brother, Ben,
and the other men he sees making ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Even the things he dreams of having for himself and for his family are shallow. He will never find relief from his search because even if he reaches his goals of
modest financial success he would still be left wanting.
Willy s life teeters between these petty concrete objects and his grandiose verbal projections. In past, present, and fantasy, Willy expresses himself through
clichés and repetitions in a formulaic chant. However, he achieves neither popularity nor success as a salesman, and he fails as a gardener, mechanic, husband,
father. (Martin 67)
He cannot even achieve small goals. He has no real feeling of self worth, and this lack of self confidence is reinforced by society and Biff s discovery of Willy
s infidelity.
In speaking about his plays, Miller explained, It is necessary, if one is to reflect reality, not only to depict why a man does what he does, or why he nearly didn
t do it, but why he cannot simply walk away and say to hell with it (Eight ix). In the case of Death of a Salesman, it is Willy s desperate hope of success that
keeps him from committing suicide for so long. Eventually, however, he gives in to his feelings of depression and ends his life. It is the only viable solution he
sees at this point. In another writing, Miller said, My impulse is

Morality in The Hunt for Red October Essay
Morality in The Hunt for Red October
While hundreds, even thousands of excellent movies have been made over the years since motion pictures were invented, there are some movies that stand out
among the best. There are various reasons for these standouts, sometimes incredible acting, sometimes impeccable story lines, but in many cases, it is the
issues addressed by the movie. Most of the greatest movies contain commentaries or analyses of certain issues, be they moral, social, or otherwise. John
McTiernan directed one of these films, The Hunt for Red October, based on the similarly titled best selling novel by Tom Clancy. The Hunt for Red October, a
product of the anti communist attitudes of the 1980 s, is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The officers of Ramius crew have also had to make their own moral decisions as they assist Ramius defection. They, too, have had to follow the beliefs of right
and wrong instead of the morality that has been given to them by their naval superiors.
There is also a moral decision to be made by the KGB agent loyal to the Soviet Union on Ramius submarine, the cook s assistant Loginov. When he discovers
that Ramius is intending to defect, he makes the decision to attempt to stop Ramius, even at cost of his own life. The fact that he is against the hero of the
movie, Ramius, does not mean that he is evil, although he is seen as such for purposes of the movie. His decision comes from his belief that what Ramius is
doing is morally wrong. He believes that defection is treason, and is unacceptable under any circumstances, and he believes that it is his job to prevent this
treason. His decision comes from his own moral beliefs, and therefore cannot be labeled as wrong. His beliefs are simply different from Ramius .
The Russians are not the only characters that must make moral decisions. The other main character of the movie, Jack Ryan, must face his own moral
decisions. To begin, he must decide whether to follow the advice of the military council, or to follow his belief that Ramius is trying to defect. His decision
will impact Ramius decision, since if no one believes

Comparative Studies
Cultural Context
Q The cultural context of a text can determine the characters and events of the text greatly. Discuss in relation to at least two texts you have studied in your
comparative studies course.
Texts studied:
How Many Miles to Babylon, by Jennifer Johnston (HMMB)
Sive, by John B Keane
32A, directed by Marian Quinn
The texts I have studied as part of my comparative course are greatly determined by the cultural context of the text; we can see results of this on both
characters and events of each text. In each text I have studied the time and setting of the texts, the class structures and economic statutes of the characters, the
customs, traditions, power and especially the values of the societies all ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is a time when matchmakers were popular and local trades flourished. Matchmaking is a distinctive part of the cultural context; Thomasheen is actually a
matchmaker by trade. This was a traditional aspect of rural Ireland. The majority of the characters in the play see it as a young girl s purpose in life to marry a
suitable man that could provide a comfortable life for her. In one key seen in Sive we see Sive s aunt and for all purposes mother driven to fulfil the match
between Sive and Sean Dota in the guarantee of a wealthy sum of money for her meddling services.
____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
We see that money is power in the world of Sive: Sean Dóta can get his way and marry Sive just because he has money. Sive s faith can be defined by the
expectations and considerations of her society and culture.
In contrast the world of 32A was never much determined by social class as was prominent in HMMB. Set in the suburbs of Dublin in 1979, at a much later
date than the other texts, we witness the society and culture of middle class Ireland. Dublin s North side where most of the action takes place is portrayed as a

Explaining A Sociological Imagination
Before I begin to explain what a sociological imagination is I would like to explain when this physical theory started and tell you that it was once called
something else before that. Sociology was discovered in the early 17th century in The Age of Enlighten Where the scholars wanted a more scientific theory
then just basing everything off of things being super natural. Sociology was once called social physics by August Comte. Sociological imagination is when you
take all your personal beliefs and opinions on things out of the equation and truly try to understand the situation for what it actually is and grasp that there are
going to be certain scenarios that happen that are not always self inflicting.

Criminal Recidivism
The solutions to these concerns are not straightforward but there are plausible remedies to the issues presented. In order to address the issue brought forth
regarding public safety, the statistics regarding criminal recidivism need to be analyzed. In 2014 the Bureau of Justice Statistics released data compiled from a
study that tracked inmates released from prison in 2005 over a length of five years to see if any of them had relapsed back into a life of crime by 2010.
According to the data, 68 percent of 405,000 prisoners released in 30 states in 2005 were arrested for a new crime within three years of their release from
prison, and 77 percent were arrested within five years . These facts are overwhelming and seem to hint at an issue within ... Show more content on

A conglomerate of criminals who have put in the time to produce public good while also improving their own well being will ultimately create a safer society

the concerns of the community service based punishment system. At first glance the retributivist argument against the proposed alternative punishment system
is valid and sound, but with a closer look the average individual can see that there are flaws in this argument. If the goal of retributivist punishment is to truly
correct the wrongs of a criminal by acting in such a manner that assuages the negativities produced by a crime, then there should be multiple ways to go about
punishing an individual. Who is to say that a person who commits murder deserves death or life in prison as their

Archetypes In Pan s Labyrinth
Pan s Labyrinth is a story about of a young girl named Ofilia, goes on a hero s journey to return to the underworld to be with her father. In the The Esoteric
Interpretation of Pan s Labyrinth the writer points out that there is mystical and archetypal symbolism found throughout the movie. In the the esoteric
interpitation of pan s labyrinth the writer does a great job of pointing out many of the architypes in the movie, but leaves out a few that I think are in the movie.
The essay does a good job of creating a summary of the movie, and then they talk about different types of architypes in the movie. The first architype is when
ofelia places the the missing eye back in t0 the monument of the faun. This shows that Ofilia has an ability to see or believe in fairy tales, and she notices that
adults do not have the ability to see things that cannot be physically seen. When Ofilia placed the eye into the monument starts her quest. ... Show more

Sociology Course At Environmental Problems
The introduction to sociology course this semester turned out to be a very intriguing class. I had prior knowledge and connection to the subject, but still I
thoroughly enjoyed the class and feel that I learned and developed further knowledge into the subject of sociology. Many of the topics, discussions, and
assignments I really enjoyed doing, and I am glad that the course turned out to be as great as it was. Due to this, I choose to not write about any activities or
topics that I didn t enjoy learning, because all in all, I really enjoyed everything about this course. I have a connection to sociology since a young age, and I
very much enjoy studying all the topics we have learned thus far in this intro class. To write about assignments or topics that I didn t like would be hard for me
because I would have to make up excuses to why I didn t enjoy something discussed. My favorite topic that we discussed in class was environmental
problems. I really enjoy looking at environmental problems and the implications that arise in society stemming from the environmental problems in our world.
We discussed the types of pollution and the complications that come from the different types of pollution. I really enjoy learning more about the topic of
environmental change, because I already consider myself to be fairly interested in the topic prior to its discussion in class. We also talked about the social
movements backing environmental change. I enjoy analyzing social movements because

Np Role
Tara Butts Georgia College and State University The role of the Nurse Practitioner (NP) in the U.S. is one that has undergone numerous changes over past
years. When the first NP program was developed in 1965 at the University of Colorado by a pediatrician by the name of Henry Silver and a master s prepared
public health nurse by the name of Loretta Ford, the role was primarily meant to train nurses to provide care to poor, rural, children in Colorado. (Joel, 2013)
By the 1970 s, it was clear that the NP could fill the country s need for healthcare providers and the number of programs providing NP education rose to 178
by 1977. (Joel, 2013) At this point in time there were no clear guidelines in regard to curriculum and evaluation standards, that is until the American Academy

Constantine s Influence Of The Edict Of Milan
The Edict of Milan was an extremely important document that helped begin the revolution of Christianity. In 312 AD this document was enacted by the Roman
emperor Constantine and his co emperor Licinius. The Edict of Milan was the agreement that freed Christians to worship as they please without prosecution by
the Roman authorities. Indeed This document was the first step to the spreading of the Christian faith, one that would come to dominate the union of European
empires, eventually splitting the land east and west. Emperor Constantine s influence to create the Edict of Milan was driven by a personal experience during
his time in battle. Constantine had a dream where he saw a Christian symbol in the sky and a heavenly voice telling him to fight beneath the symbol. As a
matter of fact Constantine had all of his men paint the symbol on their shields, they then won that battle, attributing their success to the power of Christianity.
Notably emperor Constantine was not a Christian at the time, not to mention that his mother was Christian, after this experience in battle he created the Edict
of Milan and converted to Christianity. Because of the document, many Roman authorities were outraged. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Deep architectures are algorithms that apply successive...
Deep architectures are algorithms that apply successive non linear transformations to data, in an attempt to discover higher and higher level representations of
this data [1]. The most common example is an Artificial Neural Network (ANN) with multiple hidden layers. While deep learning is an old concept, learning
algorithms on deep architectures were slow and thus impractical [2]. Discovery of new training methods and improved processing power in recent years have
allowed for state of the art empirical results in computer vision and speech recognition. Most famously, a group of researchers from Stanford and Google

Last summer, Google released word2vec, a tool that analyses input text and produces such word representations using a deep neural network. Interestingly,
these representations capture many linguistic regularities. For example, vector( king ) vector( man )+vector( woman ) is close to vector( queen ). These vector
spaces are similar between languages, and could be used for machine translation. To go further, deeper networks need to be used to understand word phrases
and syntactical relations between phrases. The Stanford NLP Group has for instance studied recursive neural networks to understand not only words but also
how they interact to form a complete sentence [5]. We come now to the object of my research. What kind of deep architecture is suited to machine translation?
I want a model that can manipulate and understand word phrases and sentences in the same way that existing systems understand words. Simply expanding
upon existing neural network language models by making them deeper is ineffective because it is too computationally expensive. We also do not understand

Medea And Antigone Analysis
Antigone by Sophocles and Medea by Euripides are two plays whose main characters are their namesakes. Antigone is a play based on Antigone s response to
the death of her brothers and Medea is a play based on Medea s response to her husband Jason leaving her to marry the daughter of a king. Both Antigone and
Medea are women fighting against oppression by directly disobeying the law. However, they use different tactics in their battles, and they have different
reasons for fighting. In the end, both make their point by bringing down the royal households. These women effectively fight oppression in their own ways. To
begin, both Antigone and Medea were fighting oppression by breaking the law. In Antigone, the first evidence of oppression was directly on her late brother,
Polyneices. After he died fighting his own brother.over the rule of Thebes, Creon, the man now ruling, decreed that Polyneices was not to have a proper burial.
But as for Polyneices, Creon has ordered that none shall bury him or mourn for him;
He must be left to lie unwept, unburied,
For hungry birds of prey to swoop and feast
On his poor body (Sophocles 26 30)
Though this order was made, Antigone disregarded it and buried her brother. The main point for her doing this was to stand up for her religious beliefs, which
she was then oppressed for. While she was being confronted by Creon about her actions, she said, Nor could I think that a decree of yours /A man could
override the laws of Heaven (453 454). Antigone believed that it was the law of the gods for a person to have a proper burial so, she disobeyed Creon s law in
order to obey the gods, who she deemed as more important due to their eternal state (457).
In Medea, all of the oppression lies directly on Medea and her children. First, she must fight the oppression of Jason abandoning her and her children. Then, on
top of that she has Creon, the king who is also Jason s new father in law, come to her and say, Medea, I hereby announce that you must leave this land, an
exile, taking with you
Your two children. You must not delay (Euripides 278 280).
Creon continues by telling Medea that he has heard of plans she has made to harm him, his daughter, and Jason and is exiling her

up the workforce. That s 262,587 Arizonans left without jobs and 278,460 illegal aliens with jobs. b) 37% of Arizona s uninsured population contained is
illegal aliens, which was costing Arizona $320 million annually. c) New reports show that tens of thousand illegal children will be attending public schools all
over Arizona, funded by taxpayers. This will cost Arizona 1.3 billion per year, which weighs down Arizona s already struggling education system. Water
Shortage As rainfall levels continue to drop below normal for Arizona, the drought continues to raise concerns. Although rainfall isn t necessarily a type of
water source, most of the rain Phoenix gets comes from the Colorado River, which in turn is also one of Arizona s main sources of water and used for Arizona
s water reservoirs, Lake Mead and Lake Powell. Here are some concerning facts listed below: a) Lake Mead currently has 45% of its capacity level filled,
putting it at 1,085 feet above sea level. Lake Mead is already at the lowest level since the 1930s and if the drought continues, it s expected to drop to 1,000 feet

The Public Company Accounting Oversight Board
The Sarbanes Oxley Act created the Public Company Accounting Oversight Board (PCAOB) to assume the responsibility of overseeing the auditors of public
companies. The PCAOB is a private sector, non profit corporation. It was established to protect the interests of investors and further the public interests in the
preparation of informative, fair, and independent audit reports . (The PCAOB) Although the PCAOB is a private sector organization, it has many government
like regulatory functions. The PCAOB was created in response to an increasing number of accounting restatements by public companies during the 1990s and
a series of recent high profile scandals like Enron and WorldCom. Prior to the PCAOB, the audit industry was self regulated ... Show more content on

Many firms are upset by this rule because of its limitations. However, I believe that this new rule is a good idea. Previous engagements between firms and
clients have been given a large notice of when the rule will be in effect. They are given plenty of time to finish their engagements. This new rule may allow
small firms more possibilities to increase their clientele. We may be moving away from having a small number of large firms doing all the services to having
many firms providing the services. Also, Rule 3523 will ensure independence.
Another issue that has arisen since the establishment of the PCAOB is the increased compliance costs. In 2007, the PCAOB has been awarded a budget of
136,429,000 dollars by the SEC. Of that amount, 79,514,000 dollars will be used to pay for salaries. (The PCAOB) The PCAOB s budget is paid by public
companies through fees and audit firms through fines. These fines can reach 100,000 dollars for individual auditors and up to 2 million dollars for audit firms.
Many firms have increased their audit fees due to the increase in costs, partly due to the PCAOB. The PCAOB continues to grow each year. Their powers and
responsibilities continue to grow, which in turn will lead to a larger budget. The SEC should take into consideration these additional fees for businesses and
auditing firms when they determine the salaries of employees. The average salary for each employee is over 150,000 dollars, which is a substantial

The Pros And Cons Of A Biological Weapon
It seems to me that the most realistic threat to our nation is that of a Biological Weapon [BW].
First, biological weapons are naturally occurring and easy to come by, such as anthrax. Not to mention the fact that it s been successfully used as weapon in the
past (Anthrax, 2015). Secondly, biological weapons can cause far more death and injury with smaller amounts. In 1993, a study by the Congressional Office of
Technology Assessment found that an attack on Washington D.C. using 100 kilograms of anthrax would prove to be far more deadly that an attack on the same
area using a 1 megaton hydrogen bomb (Katz, 2013). The viability of a biological weapon sample doesn t seem to be in question, in my opinion, as it is
naturally occurring to begin with. The only issue would be the attacker or attackers insuring that they protect themselves. Another concern with the biological
weapons is the recent advances in technology, including DNA synthesis. Meaning that in the near future, any naturally occurring bio weapon could be re

There would be enormous difficulty in even a skilled terrorist building and deploying a nuclear bomb. Additionally, even if that same terrorist got his hands on
an American nuclear weapon, it is highly unlikely that they d have the ability to detonate it (Cravens, 2016). The biggest threat our nation faces today in terms
of a nuclear attack seems to be that of the threat posed by the North Korean regime who has successfully tested multiple long range missiles in recent months
(Robertson Masters, 2017). Radiological weapons, often called dirty bombs, are a different story. The terrorist requires very little expertise and the items
needed to complete the weapon are widely available. Although the casualties are limited, it can have both immediate and long term effects on those effected

Black Soldiers In The Haitian Revolution
The enslaved Africans of Saint Domingue had an unwavering desire for freedom. They burnt cane fields and refineries in order to destroy the system that had
held them captive. John K. Thornton believes that the contribution of African soldiers was the main reason for the success of the Haitian Revolution. In his
article, African Soldiers in the Haitian Revolution , he noted that, the rebellious slaves of Haiti inflicted grievous military defeat on all who opposed them. The
majority of the enslaved persons in Saint Domingue were not simply just agricultural workers, but from whence they came, they were soldiers, merchants and
even kings. The African born enslaved persons, who made up the majority of the masses, were able to use their prior military experience to assist them in their
victory and some even participated in the Congolese wars. They were skilled in Guerilla Warfare which they used to defeat all the forces which they fought.
Thornton noted, from an eye witness account, that when the ex enslaved persons engaged in battle they never massed in the open or waited in line to charge.
And these tactics made them appear to be six times as numerous than they were. Thornton stated that if persons view the enslaved people of Haiti as people
with strong militaristic backgrounds and not just agricultural labourers, the question as to what was the main reason for the success of Haitian Revolution may
be answered.
Throughout the revolution there was an abundance of

Race has no biological meaning. There is only one human race; there are no subspecies, no single defining characteristic, traits, or even gene, separates one
race from another. Instead of being a biological concept, race is a social construct, and a relatively modern one at that. It was created to give light skinned
Europeans an advantage by making the white race superior and all others inferior. Throughout its history, the concept of race has served this purpose well.
Ancient civilizations, although they practiced slavery, did not classify people based on race, but on other characteristics, such as religion and status. The
concept of race first developed in the 18th century, as a way for slaveholders to justify slavery and secure ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They were stereotyped as plodding, degraded, and servile people indeed, virtual slaves, and were treated as virtual slaves also, (Chan). After slavery was
abolished, white landowners wanted Asians to immigrate to America because, as one of them said, emancipation has spoiled the negro, and carried him away
from the fields of agriculture... we therefore say let the coolies come, (McFerson). Later, while working on the railroads, they were paid far less than the
unskilled white workers, no matter what job they held. They were viewed as perpetual foreigners and their opponents used Asians alleged inability to become
real Americans as an excuse to exclude them and to deny them participation in American political and social life, (Chan). In fact, they could not become real
Americans because they were not allowed citizenship until the 1940s and 1950s. In the 20th century, there was confusion as to whether Asian Americans
should be considered akin to blacks or whites. Earlier generations had entered the country as a replacement for black slaves, but during segregation, many
Asians were allowed to attend white schools, theaters, and restaurants. They were not, however, allowed to live in white neighborhoods and when the matter
was pressed, they were grouped with blacks. In the 1960s, in the midst of the Civil Rights movement, they were given the status of a model minority to make
blacks seem inferior and to confer honorary whiteness on Asians. In Hawaii,

The Growing Importance Of Ethical Business Managers
The Growing Importance of Ethical Business Managers
Julia Shaw Hillary Shaw (2010) describe that the need for ethical business managers and practices has never been greater. Recent financial scandals have
exposed issues in the management decision making process, suggesting a need to develop the necessary analytical and empathetic qualities so future corporate
leaders may be moral managers (Julia Shaw Hillary Shaw, 2010). This recent pattern of business misconduct (Michaelson, 2015) and single minded pursuit of
profit has made the promotion of ethical values a key concern for modern business organizations (Julia Shaw Hillary Shaw, 2010). This paper will discuss how
literary fiction (i.e. novels, literature, narrative, fiction, drama, comics) can help organizations develop ethical managers by discussing (1) the growing
importance of ethical business managers (2) the benefits of a novel approach to business ethics, and (3) the moral value of literary fiction to business.
During the past few years, many companies have seen their reputations plummet in the wake of various corporate scandals (Julia Shaw Hillary Shaw, 2010).
With this context of an amoral and inept set of global management practices, Julia Shaw Hillary Shaw (2010) propose the need for a new breed of manager,
namely the moral manager. While Eastwood describes that leadership is an essentially moral act, he elaborates that there is a disconnection between this notion
and the behavior of some business

Personal Narrative-Fair Job Analysis
From the New Year approaching, and I am still looking for work in the state. This week the most important thing is Tuesday s job fair. I got my resume ready
early, and I got to know more interested companies. Before the job fair, I was fortunate enough to have received a phone call from a company that had
previously voted on the talent website and was invited to attend the interview. I went to an early education institution, the interviewer is very friendly, briefly
describes some of their company s situation, as well as the main work content. I also asked the most concerned about the issue, and one by one to be answered.
But this institution is often a night shift, which is inconvenient for me, home at night will be more dangerous, the interviewer also expressed understanding,
and let me go home to ask the views of parents, give them back. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The Textual Relationship Between Virgil And Lucretius
A number of research has shown the textual relationship between Virgil and Lucretius. Many have noticed the unique use of gliscit by Virgil in 12.9 to describe
Turnus reaction to seeing the Latins retreat and have subsequently connected it to Lucretius, specifically passage 1.474: ignis Alexandri Phrygio sub pectore
gliscens clara accendisset saevi certamina belli . Although Virgil could have had this passage in mind, there is another use in Lucretius which can bring new
context and understanding to Virgil s use of gliscit. Scholars before have noted the relationship between Aen. 12.9 and DRN 4.1069; however, it has not been
analyzed why Virgil might be invoking this specific passage.
This paper proposes that Virgil uses gliscit to describe Turnus violent state in order to echo Lucretius use at the end of Book 4 when he is describing the state
of man under the duress of Venus . This reference both reveals further aspects of Turnus character with subtlety and brevity and moreover, as some scholars
believe that Aeneas anger at the end of Book 12 mirrors Juno s anger in the beginning of Book 1, in a similar fashion Turnus behavior in the end mimics the
characteristics of the opposing goddess, Venus.
I will begin this study by examining the origin and meaning of gliscere. The meaning of gliscere is similar to other sc verbs in that it expresses the idea of
growth, however, it has a rarer presence in both Latin verse and prose until Tacitus and even then, it is

La Llorona Loc The Other Side Essay
At the start of La Llorona Loca: The Other Side, Palacios describes growing up when her mother would tell her scary stories about Llorona Loca. In the first
paragraph we see a common theme or image found in the Latinx cannon: the image of motherhood and tradition. Palacios mother s retelling follows the
traditional narrative of La Llorona Loca retelling in which a woman, traditionally a mother, drowns her children and then feels remorse. Although many
authors would choose to further develop on this image, Palacios through her reflection on her up brining demonstrates opposing views to the dominant
ideology, in the way in which she critiques these societal expectations of women. As the story continues, Palacios articulates a critique of gender roles and
expectations demonstrated through the following lines of her mothers La Llorona retelling: The story also states that, as she wailed, she wore a long white
gown. (49). The primary reason that this particular line is so important is that it is the first demonstration of a change of tone from our author. In the beginning
lines, the author appears to be reflective, whereas in this line she demonstrates sarcasm. There is also particular imagery of the white dress, which has a lot of
cultural/ideological symbolism. The color the dress, particularly its whiteness, symbolisms virginity/purity, both common attributes placed upon the Latinx
body. A critical eye could view the color of the dress in the La Llorona retelling as a

Child Corruption And Child Trafficking
With money running the world, it is not unexpected that corruption and child trafficking are entwined at the most rudimentary level. Often, money is the
driving factor of most forms of child trafficking, whether it is a result of the victim desperately seeking out employment to support themselves and their family
or the perpetrator utilizes their financial control over the victim to retain their product. Unfortunately, due to their very nature, children are considered some of
the most vulnerable and sought after targets for traffickers. In a 2005 International Labor Organization report, there is an estimated that 980,000 to 1,225,000
children both boys and girls are in a forced labor situation as a result of trafficking across the world. In response to this pandemic, actions have been attempted
by both international organizations ( IO ) (United Nations ( U.N. ), Interpol, Non Government Organizations ( NGO ), etc...) and state actors to reduce and
prevent child trafficking. Such actions included adopting international treaties, such as the Convention Against Corruption ( CAC ) and Convention of the
Rights of the Child ( CRC ), to address the social, economic, and cultural factors that contributed to corruption and child trafficking. From there, many nations
states established domestic legislation by either directly or indirectly adopting provisions in the international treaties to provide a means to criminalize the
immoral perpetrators and protect the victims of

Research Paper The Sun Also Rises and the Great Gatsby are both very interesting books written in the 1920 s. The characters of Lady Brett Ashley and Daisy
Buchanan also influenced many women in that time period on how they acted, dressed, and the choices they made in their everyday life s. Lady Brett Ashley is
a very tart character. She goes after men and has sex with them and then they provide everything for her. She is probably the most unsympathic character in the

The s Knowledge Conversion Theory
Majority of today s economies are characterized by increasing unpredictability. These uncertainties often lead to chaos in organizations that fail to plan for
various eventualities. The uncertainties manifest themselves in market shifts leading to technology proliferation, increased competition. In some cases, key
products may become obsolete thereby translating into enormous loses. It is essential to note that only those organizations that emphasize an investment in
knowledge creation thrive under such circumstances. Consistent innovation is, therefore, the key to guaranteed profitable ventures in any organization s future.
Business leaders from all around the world adopt different approaches towards knowledge. The Japanese approach for instance emphasizes the significance of
making use of tacit knowledge of individual employees for the benefit of the company as a whole. Nonaka s knowledge conversion theory is largely inspired
by the experience of Japanese firms (McLean n.d). This paper explores the theory and evaluates its significance as far as universal applicability is concerned.
Nonaka s Knowledge Conversion Theory Nonaka s knowledge conversion theory appreciates the fact that today s society is enormously dependent on
knowledge. In other words, knowledge has become considerably significant in many contemporary societies. As a result of this, there is an urgent need for a
shift in thinking as far as innovation in large corporations is concerned (Nonaka 1994). The

Congenital Cataracts Cause Blindness Around The World
Congenital Cataract is one of the leading preventable diseases that causes blindness around the world, being one of the easiest diseases to treat, the major
complication being that some countries do not have the sufficient resources to treat it. The disease is formed in the eye and forms a sort of cloud in the natural
lens of the eye that could eventually lead to blindness if not treated properly. This type of cataract is different from most cataracts, since congenital cataracts is
present in an individual since birth, meaning that it was most likely inherited from the parents. The way that it is inherited is by some sort of abnormality,
which would transpire during the making of the proteins that make the lens clear. There are many different ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The study done by these researchers proved that timely surgery can be beneficial to the vision of individuals who suffer from congenital cataracts. They
analyzed results from the aftermath of eye surgery there was a small improvement to most of the individuals vision. There were various individuals whose
vision was not corrected and in fact was worsened. The children at the time were around 11 years old, so it was concluded that some of the children had had
the disease for too long for it to be corrected. This underlines the significance of discovering and treating congenital cataracts at a young age, preferably as an
infant. Most developing countries are still aiming to improve their health care and avoiding the consequences of congenital cataracts, yet they are in trouble
with nearly 30% of health professions in Africa and Asia plan to migrate to a different country (Lenhart, 2016). In Lenhart s research article, he concludes that
most troubles these developing countries have roots from financial struggles. These financial struggles lead to poor resources within the countries. These
developing countries do not even have the machinery to detect eye diseases in children, such as the red reflex screening. Without these tests, infants are left
with a preventable disease

Countee Cullen Analysis
Countee Cullen was a leading writer of the Harlem Renaissance. Adopted as a teenager, he was never able to know his real, true family, along with its heritage,
so he was not able to find his true identity. He felt these devastating effects of a loss of identity after losing his family, while being thrust into a new one, and
never found or understood his own heritage. This later impacted major aspects of his life, such as his style of writing, his religion, and his sexuality. Cullen was
raised in Harlem, but there is no record of his place of birth. He was born May 30th, 1903 and was raised by his grandmother until her death in 1918. At that
time, Cullen was just a fifteen year old boy with no family left to look after him. Cullen was adopted by Reverend Frederick A. Cullen, a pastor from one of
Harlem s most popular churches. Reverend Frederick introduced Cullen to an atmosphere that encouraged education, faith, and sophistication. Cullen later on
enrolled in New York University, where he published Ballad of a Brown Girl in 1923, before his graduation. After graduation, he went on to earn his master s
degree in English from Harvard University, which he received in 1926. While at Harvard, he published Color, which was a collection of poems with topics that
ranged from death, to love, and sex. One of his most popular and notable poems, Heritage , was published in Color. Throughout his writing career, Cullen was
advised by Alain Locke. Alain Locke was a writer, philosopher,

  • 2. Wildland Firefighters Research Paper The first cavalry of wildland firefighters began in August 1886 led by Captain Moses Harris from Troop M. When he took command of the group at Yellowstone National Park, their job was to manage and protect the park. The cavalry remained there for the next 32 years. Quickly after the group s arrival, they immediately began fighting wildfires all around the park. Here emerged the first group of wildland firefighters to be paid for their service. Workers began to apply new regulations, including campfire restrictions when deemed absolutely necessary. These regulations are known as NFPA s which is an acronym for National Fire Protection Association. In 1915 wildland had its first female personnel in the field. Her name was Durham and was a wife of one of the pioneer rangers and her friend ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In 1923 the first fire weather warning service was established in San Francisco established by U.S. Weather Bureau. In 1926 the first daily reporting of fire weather data was transmitted from forest service field stations to the Weather Bureau. In 1927 the first recorded prescribed burn conducted by U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service wildlife biologists. In 1934 smokejumping was created by T.V. Pearson a local Forest Service Intermountain Regional Forester. Smokejumping is described as a quick means to provide attack by parachuting wildland firefighters that are fresh and ready to work in rugged terrain. In 1935 the first fire retardant drop test was held but it was not until 1947 that the bombing project formally by a B 29 Bomber called the Rocky Mountain Ranger. In 1935 Harry T. • 3. Sight And Survival Of Sight Sight, for many people, is the one sense they feel would be the most difficult to live without. We rely on sight to read, find our way around, cook our meals, do our jobs, and consume our entertainment. For many animals, their sense of sight is of vital importance for their survival. For example, hawks and eagles rely on their incredible vision to spot prey from the sky. Large predatory cats, such as lions and jaguars, will use their improved night vision to hunt unsuspecting prey in the dark. The loss of sight means almost certain death for a large amount of animals, as sight is mainly used for awareness of surroundings, avoiding predators, and hunting prey. However, this is not to say that some creatures do not rely on sight to survive; many animals, such as shrimp and fish in low or zero light environments have not evolved to have a sense of vision, but instead rely on other senses to understand their surroundings, find prey, or avoid predators. Then again, sight is so important for survival on Earth that it has independently evolved across multiple species1; this is known as convergent evolution. As Darwin puts it, the eye, such a perfect organ, being formed by natural selection seems ...absurd in the highest degree ,1 but true nonetheless. Sight is one of the greatest and most complex marvels produced by natural selection. Cyanobacteria, microscopic prokaryotic bacteria, are known for their green colour, their ability to convert sunlight into energy, with O2 as a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Teaching Methods And Strategies For Teaching Styles There has always been a debate on what kind of teaching styles work best, what the best curriculum to teach is, or how to effectively organize your classroom. Yet, nobody has discovered what the most effective teaching methods are. As future teachers, we must constantly be making decisions that will shape us into the teacher we would like to become. Over the course of the next four years, and even once we become teachers with classrooms of our own, we will be exposed to many different teaching methods and strategies. There is no one right or wrong way to teach, and it is up to us to decide how we would like to structure our classroom. While there are many teaching styles, it seems that there is predominantly two types of teachers according to John Dewey: those that are reflective, and those that are not. Unreflective teachers tend to accept the routines that are given to them by the school they are working for. They spend their days working to solve problems who have been created by others for them. Reflective teachers on the other hand, are constantly evaluating their beliefs, teaching methods and behaviors and modifying those things so that it works with the situation they are in. Dewey believe that in order to be a reflective teacher, you must have three different components to your attitude: open mindedness, responsibility, and wholeheartedness. In being open minded, you must be willing to listen to both sides of the argument and willing to use an alternative way of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Alienation of Willy Loman in Arthur Miller s Death of a... Willy s Loneliness and Alienation in Death of a Salesman Willy Loman s feelings of alienation and loneliness are direct psychological results of his interaction with society and the conditions that are found within it. Although, he does not necessarily have the ability or allow himself to have the ability to define his feelings as such, they are still very much a part of his everyday existence. This is evident in his constant bragging and attempted compensation. He does not feel that he is truly a part of society. Indeed, he is not. Miller himself seems to be saying that this is not necessarily a bad thing; this society is not that wonderful. Yet Willy still yearns to be like his brother, Ben, and the other men he sees making ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Even the things he dreams of having for himself and for his family are shallow. He will never find relief from his search because even if he reaches his goals of modest financial success he would still be left wanting. Willy s life teeters between these petty concrete objects and his grandiose verbal projections. In past, present, and fantasy, Willy expresses himself through clichés and repetitions in a formulaic chant. However, he achieves neither popularity nor success as a salesman, and he fails as a gardener, mechanic, husband, father. (Martin 67) He cannot even achieve small goals. He has no real feeling of self worth, and this lack of self confidence is reinforced by society and Biff s discovery of Willy s infidelity. In speaking about his plays, Miller explained, It is necessary, if one is to reflect reality, not only to depict why a man does what he does, or why he nearly didn t do it, but why he cannot simply walk away and say to hell with it (Eight ix). In the case of Death of a Salesman, it is Willy s desperate hope of success that keeps him from committing suicide for so long. Eventually, however, he gives in to his feelings of depression and ends his life. It is the only viable solution he sees at this point. In another writing, Miller said, My impulse is ... • 6. Morality in The Hunt for Red October Essay Morality in The Hunt for Red October While hundreds, even thousands of excellent movies have been made over the years since motion pictures were invented, there are some movies that stand out among the best. There are various reasons for these standouts, sometimes incredible acting, sometimes impeccable story lines, but in many cases, it is the issues addressed by the movie. Most of the greatest movies contain commentaries or analyses of certain issues, be they moral, social, or otherwise. John McTiernan directed one of these films, The Hunt for Red October, based on the similarly titled best selling novel by Tom Clancy. The Hunt for Red October, a product of the anti communist attitudes of the 1980 s, is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The officers of Ramius crew have also had to make their own moral decisions as they assist Ramius defection. They, too, have had to follow the beliefs of right and wrong instead of the morality that has been given to them by their naval superiors. There is also a moral decision to be made by the KGB agent loyal to the Soviet Union on Ramius submarine, the cook s assistant Loginov. When he discovers that Ramius is intending to defect, he makes the decision to attempt to stop Ramius, even at cost of his own life. The fact that he is against the hero of the movie, Ramius, does not mean that he is evil, although he is seen as such for purposes of the movie. His decision comes from his belief that what Ramius is doing is morally wrong. He believes that defection is treason, and is unacceptable under any circumstances, and he believes that it is his job to prevent this treason. His decision comes from his own moral beliefs, and therefore cannot be labeled as wrong. His beliefs are simply different from Ramius . The Russians are not the only characters that must make moral decisions. The other main character of the movie, Jack Ryan, must face his own moral decisions. To begin, he must decide whether to follow the advice of the military council, or to follow his belief that Ramius is trying to defect. His decision will impact Ramius decision, since if no one believes ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Cultural Context in How Many Miles to Babylon, Sive and 32a Comparative Studies Cultural Context Q The cultural context of a text can determine the characters and events of the text greatly. Discuss in relation to at least two texts you have studied in your comparative studies course. Texts studied: How Many Miles to Babylon, by Jennifer Johnston (HMMB) Sive, by John B Keane 32A, directed by Marian Quinn The texts I have studied as part of my comparative course are greatly determined by the cultural context of the text; we can see results of this on both characters and events of each text. In each text I have studied the time and setting of the texts, the class structures and economic statutes of the characters, the customs, traditions, power and especially the values of the societies all ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It is a time when matchmakers were popular and local trades flourished. Matchmaking is a distinctive part of the cultural context; Thomasheen is actually a matchmaker by trade. This was a traditional aspect of rural Ireland. The majority of the characters in the play see it as a young girl s purpose in life to marry a suitable man that could provide a comfortable life for her. In one key seen in Sive we see Sive s aunt and for all purposes mother driven to fulfil the match between Sive and Sean Dota in the guarantee of a wealthy sum of money for her meddling services. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ We see that money is power in the world of Sive: Sean Dóta can get his way and marry Sive just because he has money. Sive s faith can be defined by the expectations and considerations of her society and culture. In contrast the world of 32A was never much determined by social class as was prominent in HMMB. Set in the suburbs of Dublin in 1979, at a much later date than the other texts, we witness the society and culture of middle class Ireland. Explaining A Sociological Imagination Before I begin to explain what a sociological imagination is I would like to explain when this physical theory started and tell you that it was once called something else before that. Sociology was discovered in the early 17th century in The Age of Enlighten Where the scholars wanted a more scientific theory then just basing everything off of things being super natural. Sociology was once called social physics by August Comte. Sociological imagination is when you take all your personal beliefs and opinions on things out of the equation and truly try to understand the situation for what it actually is and grasp that there are going to be certain scenarios that happen that are not always self inflicting. • 9. Criminal Recidivism The solutions to these concerns are not straightforward but there are plausible remedies to the issues presented. In order to address the issue brought forth regarding public safety, the statistics regarding criminal recidivism need to be analyzed. In 2014 the Bureau of Justice Statistics released data compiled from a study that tracked inmates released from prison in 2005 over a length of five years to see if any of them had relapsed back into a life of crime by 2010. According to the data, 68 percent of 405,000 prisoners released in 30 states in 2005 were arrested for a new crime within three years of their release from prison, and 77 percent were arrested within five years . A conglomerate of criminals who have put in the time to produce public good while also improving their own well being will ultimately create a safer society for everyone, regardless of the initial reluctance people may feel towards criminals operating in the free world. This rebuttal however, only challenges one of the concerns of the community service based punishment system. At first glance the retributivist argument against the proposed alternative punishment system is valid and sound, but with a closer look the average individual can see that there are flaws in this argument. If the goal of retributivist punishment is to truly correct the wrongs of a criminal by acting in such a manner that assuages the negativities produced by a crime, then there should be multiple ways to go about punishing an individual. • 11. Archetypes In Pan s Labyrinth Pan s Labyrinth is a story about of a young girl named Ofilia, goes on a hero s journey to return to the underworld to be with her father. In the The Esoteric Interpretation of Pan s Labyrinth the writer points out that there is mystical and archetypal symbolism found throughout the movie. In the the esoteric interpitation of pan s labyrinth the writer does a great job of pointing out many of the architypes in the movie, but leaves out a few that I think are in the movie. The essay does a good job of creating a summary of the movie, and then they talk about different types of architypes in the movie. The first architype is when ofelia places the the missing eye back in t0 the monument of the faun. This shows that Ofilia has an ability to see or believe in fairy tales, and she notices that adults do not have the ability to see things that cannot be physically seen. When the first NP program was developed in 1965 at the University of Colorado by a pediatrician by the name of Henry Silver and a master s prepared public health nurse by the name of Loretta Ford, the role was primarily meant to train nurses to provide care to poor, rural, children in Colorado. (Joel, 2013) By the 1970 s, it was clear that the NP could fill the country s need for healthcare providers and the number of programs providing NP education rose to 178 by 1977. (Joel, 2013) At this point in time there were no clear guidelines in regard to curriculum and evaluation standards, that is until the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners was developed in 1985, bringing with it an abundance of political support for the NP role. • 17. Constantine s Influence Of The Edict Of Milan The Edict of Milan was an extremely important document that helped begin the revolution of Christianity. In 312 AD this document was enacted by the Roman emperor Constantine and his co emperor Licinius. The Edict of Milan was the agreement that freed Christians to worship as they please without prosecution by the Roman authorities. Indeed This document was the first step to the spreading of the Christian faith, one that would come to dominate the union of European empires, eventually splitting the land east and west. Emperor Constantine s influence to create the Edict of Milan was driven by a personal experience during his time in battle. Constantine had a dream where he saw a Christian symbol in the sky and a heavenly voice telling him to fight beneath the symbol. As a matter of fact Constantine had all of his men paint the symbol on their shields, they then won that battle, attributing their success to the power of Christianity. Deep architectures are algorithms that apply successive non linear transformations to data, in an attempt to discover higher and higher level representations of this data [1]. The most common example is an Artificial Neural Network (ANN) with multiple hidden layers. While deep learning is an old concept, learning algorithms on deep architectures were slow and thus impractical [2]. Discovery of new training methods and improved processing power in recent years have allowed for state of the art empirical results in computer vision and speech recognition. Most famously, a group of researchers from Stanford and Google trained a deep network on millions of unlabeled images, which was then able to detect human faces, bodies, and cats [3]. Deep ... Interestingly, these representations capture many linguistic regularities. For example, vector( king ) vector( man )+vector( woman ) is close to vector( queen ). These vector spaces are similar between languages, and could be used for machine translation. To go further, deeper networks need to be used to understand word phrases and syntactical relations between phrases. The Stanford NLP Group has for instance studied recursive neural networks to understand not only words but also how they interact to form a complete sentence [5]. We come now to the object of my research. What kind of deep architecture is suited to machine translation? I want a model that can manipulate and understand word phrases and sentences in the same way that existing systems understand words. Simply expanding upon existing neural network language models by making them deeper is ineffective because it is too computationally expensive. • 20. Medea And Antigone Analysis Antigone by Sophocles and Medea by Euripides are two plays whose main characters are their namesakes. Antigone is a play based on Antigone s response to the death of her brothers and Medea is a play based on Medea s response to her husband Jason leaving her to marry the daughter of a king. Both Antigone and Medea are women fighting against oppression by directly disobeying the law. However, they use different tactics in their battles, and they have different reasons for fighting. In the end, both make their point by bringing down the royal households. These women effectively fight oppression in their own ways. To begin, both Antigone and Medea were fighting oppression by breaking the law. In Antigone, the first evidence of oppression was directly on her late brother, Polyneices. After he died fighting his own brother.over the rule of Thebes, Creon, the man now ruling, decreed that Polyneices was not to have a proper burial. But as for Polyneices, Creon has ordered that none shall bury him or mourn for him; He must be left to lie unwept, unburied, For hungry birds of prey to swoop and feast On his poor body (Sophocles 26 30) Though this order was made, Antigone disregarded it and buried her brother. The main point for her doing this was to stand up for her religious beliefs, which she was then oppressed for. While she was being confronted by Creon about her actions, she said, Nor could I think that a decree of yours /A man could override the laws of Heaven (453 454). Antigone believed that it was the law of the gods for a person to have a proper burial so, she disobeyed Creon s law in order to obey the gods, who she deemed as more important due to their eternal state (457). In Medea, all of the oppression lies directly on Medea and her children. First, she must fight the oppression of Jason abandoning her and her children. Then, on top of that she has Creon, the king who is also Jason s new father in law, come to her and say, Medea, I hereby announce that you must leave this land, an exile, taking with you Your two children. You must not delay (Euripides 278 280). Creon continues by telling Medea that he has heard of plans she has made to harm him, his daughter, and Jason and is exiling her ... We may be moving away from having a small number of large firms doing all the services to having many firms providing the services. Also, Rule 3523 will ensure independence. Another issue that has arisen since the establishment of the PCAOB is the increased compliance costs. In 2007, the PCAOB has been awarded a budget of 136,429,000 dollars by the SEC. Of that amount, 79,514,000 dollars will be used to pay for salaries. (The PCAOB) The PCAOB s budget is paid by public companies through fees and audit firms through fines. These fines can reach 100,000 dollars for individual auditors and up to 2 million dollars for audit firms. Many firms have increased their audit fees due to the increase in costs, partly due to the PCAOB. The PCAOB continues to grow each year. First, biological weapons are naturally occurring and easy to come by, such as anthrax. Not to mention the fact that it s been successfully used as weapon in the past (Anthrax, 2015). Secondly, biological weapons can cause far more death and injury with smaller amounts. In 1993, a study by the Congressional Office of Technology Assessment found that an attack on Washington D.C. using 100 kilograms of anthrax would prove to be far more deadly that an attack on the same area using a 1 megaton hydrogen bomb (Katz, 2013). The viability of a biological weapon sample doesn t seem to be in question, in my opinion, as it is naturally occurring to begin with. They burnt cane fields and refineries in order to destroy the system that had held them captive. John K. Thornton believes that the contribution of African soldiers was the main reason for the success of the Haitian Revolution. In his article, African Soldiers in the Haitian Revolution , he noted that, the rebellious slaves of Haiti inflicted grievous military defeat on all who opposed them. The majority of the enslaved persons in Saint Domingue were not simply just agricultural workers, but from whence they came, they were soldiers, merchants and even kings. The African born enslaved persons, who made up the majority of the masses, were able to use their prior military experience to assist them in their victory and some even participated in the Congolese wars. Thornton stated that if persons view the enslaved people of Haiti as people with strong militaristic backgrounds and not just agricultural labourers, the question as to what was the main reason for the success of Haitian Revolution may be answered. It was created to give light skinned Europeans an advantage by making the white race superior and all others inferior. Throughout its history, the concept of race has served this purpose well. The Growing Importance Of Ethical Business Managers The Growing Importance of Ethical Business Managers Julia Shaw Hillary Shaw (2010) describe that the need for ethical business managers and practices has never been greater. Recent financial scandals have exposed issues in the management decision making process, suggesting a need to develop the necessary analytical and empathetic qualities so future corporate leaders may be moral managers (Julia Shaw Hillary Shaw, 2010). This recent pattern of business misconduct (Michaelson, 2015) and single minded pursuit of profit has made the promotion of ethical values a key concern for modern business organizations (Julia Shaw Hillary Shaw, 2010). This paper will discuss how literary fiction (i.e. novels, literature, narrative, fiction, drama, comics) can help organizations develop ethical managers by discussing (1) the growing importance of ethical business managers (2) the benefits of a novel approach to business ethics, and (3) the moral value of literary fiction to business. During the past few years, many companies have seen their reputations plummet in the wake of various corporate scandals (Julia Shaw Hillary Shaw, 2010). Many have noticed the unique use of gliscit by Virgil in 12.9 to describe Turnus reaction to seeing the Latins retreat and have subsequently connected it to Lucretius, specifically passage 1.474: ignis Alexandri Phrygio sub pectore gliscens clara accendisset saevi certamina belli . Although Virgil could have had this passage in mind, there is another use in Lucretius which can bring new context and understanding to Virgil s use of gliscit. Scholars before have noted the relationship between Aen. 12.9 and DRN 4.1069; however, it has not been analyzed why Virgil might be invoking this specific passage. This paper proposes that Virgil uses gliscit to describe Turnus violent state in order to echo Lucretius use at the end of Book 4 when he is describing the state of man under the duress of Venus . This reference both reveals further aspects of Turnus character with subtlety and brevity and moreover, as some scholars believe that Aeneas anger at the end of Book 12 mirrors Juno s anger in the beginning of Book 1, in a similar fashion Turnus behavior in the end mimics the characteristics of the opposing goddess, Venus. • 31. La Llorona Loc The Other Side Essay At the start of La Llorona Loca: The Other Side, Palacios describes growing up when her mother would tell her scary stories about Llorona Loca. In the first paragraph we see a common theme or image found in the Latinx cannon: the image of motherhood and tradition. Palacios mother s retelling follows the traditional narrative of La Llorona Loca retelling in which a woman, traditionally a mother, drowns her children and then feels remorse. Although many authors would choose to further develop on this image, Palacios through her reflection on her up brining demonstrates opposing views to the dominant ideology, in the way in which she critiques these societal expectations of women. As the story continues, Palacios articulates a critique of gender roles and expectations demonstrated through the following lines of her mothers La Llorona retelling: The story also states that, as she wailed, she wore a long white gown. (49). The primary reason that this particular line is so important is that it is the first demonstration of a change of tone from our author. In the beginning lines, the author appears to be reflective, whereas in this line she demonstrates sarcasm. There is also particular imagery of the white dress, which has a lot of cultural/ideological symbolism. The color the dress, particularly its whiteness, symbolisms virginity/purity, both common attributes placed upon the Latinx body. A critical eye could view the color of the dress in the La Llorona retelling as a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 32. Child Corruption And Child Trafficking With money running the world, it is not unexpected that corruption and child trafficking are entwined at the most rudimentary level. Often, money is the driving factor of most forms of child trafficking, whether it is a result of the victim desperately seeking out employment to support themselves and their family or the perpetrator utilizes their financial control over the victim to retain their product. Unfortunately, due to their very nature, children are considered some of the most vulnerable and sought after targets for traffickers. In a 2005 International Labor Organization report, there is an estimated that 980,000 to 1,225,000 children both boys and girls are in a forced labor situation as a result of trafficking across the world. In response to this pandemic, actions have been attempted by both international organizations ( IO ) (United Nations ( U.N. ), Interpol, Non Government Organizations ( NGO ), etc...) and state actors to reduce and prevent child trafficking. Such actions included adopting international treaties, such as the Convention Against Corruption ( CAC ) and Convention of the Rights of the Child ( CRC ), to address the social, economic, and cultural factors that contributed to corruption and child trafficking. From there, many nations states established domestic legislation by either directly or indirectly adopting provisions in the international treaties to provide a means to criminalize the immoral perpetrators and protect the victims of ... • 33. Daisy Buchanan and Lady Brett Ashley Research Paper The Sun Also Rises and the Great Gatsby are both very interesting books written in the 1920 s. The characters of Lady Brett Ashley and Daisy Buchanan also influenced many women in that time period on how they acted, dressed, and the choices they made in their everyday life s. Lady Brett Ashley is a very tart character. She goes after men and has sex with them and then they provide everything for her. She is probably the most unsympathic character in the whole story. She uses men then discards them once they are of no use to her. As Cohn, says she is Circe, who turns men into swine . By turning them into lower creatures, she uses them and then kills them at the right moment. On the other hand Daisy Buchanan is also a very ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Lady Brett Ashley does not pay much attention on how she lives her life and how bad it really looks on her. But when she went to church she realized she must be doing something wrong. She says in chapter 18, Come on, she whispered. Let s get out of here. Makes me damned nervous. Outside in the hot brightness of the street Brett looked up at the treetops in the wind. The praying had not been much of a success. Don t know why I get so nervy in church, Brett said. Never does me any good. We walked along. I m damned bad for a religious atmosphere, Brett said. I ve the wrong type of face. She can t take the thrilling atmosphere of the church, her own demons make her too nervous in such a place. The nervy feeling she gets in ... • 34. The s Knowledge Conversion Theory Majority of today s economies are characterized by increasing unpredictability. These uncertainties often lead to chaos in organizations that fail to plan for various eventualities. The uncertainties manifest themselves in market shifts leading to technology proliferation, increased competition. In some cases, key products may become obsolete thereby translating into enormous loses. It is essential to note that only those organizations that emphasize an investment in knowledge creation thrive under such circumstances. Consistent innovation is, therefore, the key to guaranteed profitable ventures in any organization s future. Business leaders from all around the world adopt different approaches towards knowledge. The Japanese approach for instance emphasizes the significance of making use of tacit knowledge of individual employees for the benefit of the company as a whole. Nonaka s knowledge conversion theory is largely inspired by the experience of Japanese firms (McLean n.d). Congenital Cataracts Cause Blindness Around The World Congenital Cataract is one of the leading preventable diseases that causes blindness around the world, being one of the easiest diseases to treat, the major complication being that some countries do not have the sufficient resources to treat it. The disease is formed in the eye and forms a sort of cloud in the natural lens of the eye that could eventually lead to blindness if not treated properly. This type of cataract is different from most cataracts, since congenital cataracts is present in an individual since birth, meaning that it was most likely inherited from the parents. • 37. Countee Cullen Analysis Countee Cullen was a leading writer of the Harlem Renaissance. Adopted as a teenager, he was never able to know his real, true family, along with its heritage, so he was not able to find his true identity. He felt these devastating effects of a loss of identity after losing his family, while being thrust into a new one, and never found or understood his own heritage. This later impacted major aspects of his life, such as his style of writing, his religion, and his sexuality. Cullen was raised in Harlem, but there is no record of his place of birth. He was born May 30th, 1903 and was raised by his grandmother until her death in 1918. At that time, Cullen was just a fifteen year old boy with no family left to look after him. Cullen was adopted by Reverend Frederick A. Cullen, a pastor from one of Harlem s most popular churches. Reverend Frederick introduced Cullen to an atmosphere that encouraged education, faith, and sophistication. Cullen later on enrolled in New York University, where he published Ballad of a Brown Girl in 1923, before his graduation. After graduation, he went on to earn his master s degree in English from Harvard University, which he received in 1926. While at Harvard, he published Color, which was a collection of poems with topics that ranged from death, to love, and sex. One of his most popular and notable poems, Heritage , was published in Color. Throughout his writing career, Cullen was advised by Alain Locke. Alain Locke was a writer, philosopher, ...
