The changes that are occurring in the
social and cultural life of the society as a
result of the impact of advancement in the
science based technology are broadly
described as modernization . Since education
is multi-polar process, it is influenced by
modernization in different ways. Due to
globalization and liberalization changes
occurring in other parts of the world will also
influence the education pattern of a country.
Even though certain aspects in the new
DEFINITION :

education which is consciously and
systematically planned and implemented
through instruction and discipline and aims
harmonious development of the physical,
emotional, spiritual, intellectual, social and
static powers or abilities of the student in
order to render professional nursing care to
people of all age, in all phases of health and
illness in a variety of settings in the best or
highest possible manner.
TREND IN NURSING EDUCATION
A profession is a dynamic
integration of various faculties of
knowledge. Since nursing
education is a professional
education, it is dynamic by its own
nature and thereby given rise to
trends. There are some of the
current trends in nursing education.
1. CURRICULUM CHANGES
2. INNOVATION IN TEACHING AND LEARNING
3. EDUCATIONAL QUALITY ASSURANCE
4. MORE RELIANCE ON TECHNOLOGY
5. EMPHASIS ON HIGH TECH HIGH TOUCH
APPROACH
6. PREPARATION OF GLOBAL NURSES
7. TRANSNATIONAL ACCEPTANCE
8. EMERGENCE OF NEW SPECALITES
9. INCEREASED OPPORTUNITIES FOR HIGHER
STUDIES
10. REFERENCE TO SHORT TERM CLINICAL
PROGRAM
11. ENSURING APROMISE CARRIER
12. POTENTIAL SHORTAGE OF NURSING EDUCATOR
13. DIMINISHING GOVERNMENT RULE
1. CURRICULUM CHANGES :-
Flexible curriculum design are
evolving to facilitate diversity of
educational opportunity and overcome
barriers of distance and time. These
curricular are often competence based,
focused on outcome and impressive
student participation and
responsibilities for nursing.
2. INNOVATION IN TEACHING AND
LEARNING :
In nursing education, lot of
innovation is taking place in the
areas of teaching and learning.
Invariably, these innovations lead to
the intellectual development,
personal development and career
3. EDUCATIONAL QUALITY ASSURANCE:-
It is a process for monitoring and evaluating
efficiency and effectiveness of educational
provision and to institute remedial measure as
and when needed. In India, nursing education is
flourishing in an unpredicted manner; naturally
this will lead to dilution in the quality of nursing
education in the absence of proper quality
control measures. Motivated by this situation,
accrediting bodies and nurse educator are
expressing deep concern regarding the quality
of nursing education. It is high time to prepare a
quality index of nursing institution all over the
4. MORE RELIANCE ON TECHNOLOGY
:-
Technology exerts greater influence on
nursing education as tool for teaching and
learning. Judicious use of educational
psychology in the development and
practice of educational technology has
increased it uses friendly nature
considerably.
5. EMPHASIS ON HIGH TECH HIGH
TOUCH APPROACH:-
In nursing this care devised to preserve
human components of nursing care without
undermining the advantages of technological
advancement in the field of patient care.
Present day nursing education in preparing the
students to maintain the human elements of
nursing while caring the patients with the help of
sophisticated gadgets.
6. PREPARATION OF GLOBAL
NURSES:-
Nursing education is all said to grape
benefits created by globalization and
liberalization by way of preparing students with
a global perspective pro providing learning
experience to enrich student knowledge in
English along with the attainment of other
object.
7. TRANSNATIONAL ACCEPTANCE: -
Nursing educational programme in one
nation is widely accepted by other nations.
In fact, this transnational acceptance is the
main reason for the development of
nursing education in the countries like
India.
8. EMERGENCE OF NEW
SPECALITES:-
In additional with the developments
in the medical and allied fields, nursing
education is also offering new
specialties to meet the needs of the
community.
9. INCEREASED OPPORTUNITIES
FOR HIGHER STUDIES:-
Different from the past many
institution are offering programs such
as post certificate, B.Sc. Nursing, M.Sc.
Nursing ,M.Phil, PhD. An eligible
candidate can easily pursue higher
education without much time lag.
10. REFERENCE TO SHORT TERM
CLINICAL PROGRAM:-
Many graduation causes prefer short
term clinical program for 6 month to 1 year
duration like critical Care Nursing etc then
other post graduation program were
deciding to go for higher studies. This is
mainly due to better carrier opportunities
prevailing in the services sectors when
compared with the educational side. 2 year
mandatory experience after completing
B.Sc. nursing for getting M.Sc. nursing
11. ENSURING APROMISE CARRIER:-
Unlike many other professional
educational programs, nursing education
ensures a promising carrier either in India or
abroad. Study conducted by Johnson and
Johnson revealed that nursing education will
maintain this status at least for the coming 20
years.
12. POTENTIAL SHORTAGE OF
NURSING EDUCATOR: -
As a result of existing carrier opportunities in
the service sector when compared to the
educational side, talented nurses are now acting
carrier in the services side for better prospectus.
This may lead to the shortage of nurse educator in
the near future, since the percentage of talented
nurses in the service sector will do a lot in the
uplifting the public image of our professionals it is
not wise to prevent this floor. Allowing the qualified
nurse from the nurses from service to work in
teaching institution on part time basis will help to
solve this problem to the certain extent.
13. DIMINISHING GOVERNMENT
RULE:-
Shortage of funds coupled with
certain policy decisions has prevented
the government from investing in the
fields of nursing education. Now the
private sector in playing a dominant
role for the development of nursing
education.
14. UNIFORMITY AND
STANDARDIZATION:-
Various universities and nursing
boards are conducting nursing
programs in a different manner, even
though efforts are on the way to bring
about the much needed uniformity and
standardization but nothing significant
has occurred so far.
Education is a purposeful process aimed at the
development of human beings. It is concerned
with the directing the child in the matter of
bringing out his hidden talents. Educative
process in the best considered as a multicolor
process. Components are knowledge
application of skills, understanding
comprehension, expression, appreciation,
teaching, learning, initiation, instruction and
training. Education is the planned activity and
based on objectives and its process is
influenced by the society, social changes and
technological advancement
CONCLUSION:-
Nursing education meant to prepare
the professional nurses, It enjoy a rich
tradition .Gold mark report in 1923
contributed considerably to the
development of nursing education and it
aims and trends give basis for strong
development of nursing education.
