The human population has grown exponentially since the early 1800s, reaching over 6.4 billion currently. It took until 1930 to reach 2 billion people, but by 1960 there were 3 billion, and growth has continued at a rate of around 93 million per year. This rapid growth has caused problems like overpopulation, with 1.3 billion people living in poverty, poor sanitation and water access, and illiteracy affecting billions. To address overpopulation will require efforts from developed and developing countries to educate people, manage resources sustainably, and provide family planning access and incentives to reduce birth rates.
