Overpopulation is a huge problem in the United States of America, which is causing us to run out of
natural resources. The human race is already too large and is destroying the natural systems that
support us. There are many solutions to this problem, but the common factor is controlling the

developed countries, such as Africa and Asia have nearly all the population growth. By 2050, India
will become the most populated country (Mooney, page 440). The world is expected to increase in
population by 2.3 billion individuals, between 2009 and 2050; it is projected by the 2009 report of
United Nations, a population of 9.1 billion in the world. The Industrial Revolution aided in the swift

Population statistics show that there were 1.6 billion people in 1900 and this figure reached 6 billion
before the end of the 20th century. Over the past several decades, the world 's population has been

the population in future years is to use values and insert them into the exponential function.

number of people on the planet will rise from 7.3 billion today to 9.7 billion in 2050, according to

1) What is exponential population growth? I found this a bit confusing the more I researched it. My
understanding of Exponential is when something grows at a rate that doubles – 2, 4, 8, 16, 32, etc.
However, it has a little different context when applied to population. The explanation I found that
seems the clearest is as a population's per capita (individual) growth rate stays the same regardless
of population size, the population grows faster and faster as it gets larger (Khan, 2017). 2) Is the
global population growing exponentially and why? This answer (to me) can be yes and no.
