The Population Problem By Crystal Bamgbala And the Impact Humans Have
We share the Earth with millions upon millions of different species…
We also share the Earth with each other…
6,800,000,000 other people, that is!
Creative and Intelligent But also destructive.
Famine Poverty War Disease… …Environmental impacts Species Endangerment/Extinction Permanent Damage… Because of our population…
The source is obvious… … our huge population.

Population Statistics
79 million born 56 million die In only sixty three years, our population may double if the rate of growth continues as is! 6,800,000,000 x 2 = 13,600,000,000 Population Statistics
Why is this a Problem? More people need more room. This means more habitat loss. Of all the endangered and threatened species, habit loss is the biggest threat at 85%. Pollution causes species to die out, “mutate”, and cause fertility problems in wildlife populations. We have killed off species, introduce non-native species which harm native species, cause permanent damage to wildlife populations and overused natural resources.
The Thylacine (Tasmanian Tiger) Dingoes competed with Tasmanian tigers. Hunters killed the Tasmanian tigers. The last known specimen died in 1936.
DDT and Bald Eagles Silent Spring (1960’s) by biologist Rachel Carson document the effects of DDT.
Florida's Burmese Pythons Burmese pythons are native to southern Asia, and yet thrive in Flordia. They cause harm to native species.
What’s the Solution? If the problem is the population, then the solution is to lower the population. But how?
Education Teaching and educating people all over the world will help them become more aware of the problems. Education about family planning will also help.
“Offspring” There is nothing wrong with children; having and wanting them is normal (though not everyone will have or will want them). We need to be responsible, however. Biological children Having no biological children and being childfree or adopting. Having one or two children.
Children For some people, not having children is out of the question. “Two-Child Policy” If more people choose not to have children, the population problem will be lowered. Adopt!
Adoption Each year over 100,000 children in the U.S. wait for homes. Less than half find one.
With no change in the future… More forests and habitats will be lost. More species will become endangered, extinct, and threated at our hands. More pollution will occur. More problems caused by a dense population (disease, poverty, famine, etc)
