The Jacobeans were a political and religious group in England between 1689-1760 who opposed the government and supported the return of King James II to the English throne. They took their name from King James II, who was overthrown in 1688 during the Glorious Revolution. The Jacobeans launched rebellions and uprisings in Scotland, Ireland, and England in 1689, 1715, 1722/23, and 1745 in attempts to restore the Stuart line of kings to power.
