There is a variety of methods that farmers use to
produce crop which would provide for us with food.
Some common agricultural practices are:-
• Strip planting
• Contour ploughing
• Terracing
• Crop rotation
• contouring

3. Strip planting
Strip planting is where different crops are
grown in alternating strips across a field. The
crops planted would be harvested at different
times.
Advantage of Strip planting
• It reduces soil erosion.
• It helps preserve the strength of the soil.

4. Contouring
In contouring, crops are planted along
the natural contours of the land.
Advantage of contouring
• This reduced the flow of water from the
slope which prevents soil erosion.

5. Contour ploughing
In contour ploughing, the land is
ploughed perpendicular to the slope and crops
are planted.
Advantage of Contour ploughing
• This reduces the flow of water and the risk
of soil erosion.

6. Terracing
In terracing, flat land is cut out of
sided of hills or mountains.
Advantage of terracing
• This reduces rainwater runoff.
• Reduce the risk of soil erosion.

7. Organic farming
Organic farming uses biological materials.
Biological fertilizer, ecological pest control.
Organic farming utilise little or no synthetic
product. Organic farming uses manure and
compost heap for fertilizer.
Advantage of organic farming
• Less pollution to waterways.
• Reduces soil erosion.
• Support healthy soil
