Creating a Pitch
A2 MEDIA STUDIES – 9TH OCTOBER 2014
Checklist – what should I have
finished?
 ALL research into real media – this includes music videos and the ancillary
tasks.
 ‘Paper’ survey of your target audience.
 Video survey of your target audience.
Next Thursday you will be delivering
your pitch to the rest of the class!
 This will be a chance to gain feedback from your initial ideas…
 Today you are going to go through the steps to plan this pitch.
Step One - Audience
 What are your audience results telling you?
 What do they want to see in a music video? How could this influence your
production?
 Any surprises? How could this influence your production.
 Individually, write a short analysis of your target audience results and post
onto the blog. Title: Initial Audience Research – Your Name
Step Two – Group Meeting
 Firstly, agree and post the following as soon as possible if not already
done:
1 Who the band/ artist are, their name, their image/ identity (the one you
are creating)
2. An outline treatment for your early visual ideas
3. Detail on the target audience
4. The genre of the music and the signifiers of this (within the music and/or
linked to the artist)
 Create one post detailing what you have decided in your ‘meeting’.
Step Three – Individual initial
treatment
 To show you are fully developing your ideas create the following elements
to compliment your treatment:
a) A mood board of initial colours/mise-en-scene you like
b) A wordle of your initial ideas (http://www.wordle.net)
c) Annotated lyrics of your selected song indicating what might be
happening at the time of song and/or a timeline of your video.
Pitch: What should it include?
1) What is your song? Why did you pick it?
2) Who is your ‘artist’? What is their name? What identity are you
creating for them?
3) Why will your song and artist appeal to the target audience?
How is it similar/different to other artists/music they like?
4) What style of music video are you making? What will happen
in the video? Which real music videos were you influenced by?
5) What will be your visual style (mise-en-scene, camera, editing)?
Which real music videos were you influenced by?
6) Ancillary tasks – what are you doing? What real media styles
did you like the most?
7) Finally – what is your unique selling point? Why is the
audience going to like your artist over others?
PLEASE NOTE:
This is not seven
slides – it could
(and should) be
more!
These are the
ideas I expect you
to cover.
