GENRE CASE STUDY
RESEARCH THE GENRE YOU WOULD LIKE TO FOCUS YOUR
PRACTICAL RESEARCH ON.
• Must be 1-2 pages long
• Outline the codes and conventions of the genre as well as including the history of it and how it’s
evolved over time (a timeline)
• Outline the key artists in the genre.
• Choose a music video from the genre and create a short case study by analyzing: mise en scene,
camera angles, editing techniques, lighting, who the audience is and how we can identify this,
representations (e.g gender/race/class etc...) and anything else you can identify that represents the
genre from the research you have covered.
STYLES AND TECHNIQUES OF

OUTLINE THE DIFFERENT STYLES AND TECHNIQUES
OF MUSIC VIDEOS.
• Must be 1 page long
• Make sure you have a clear description/definition of each.
• Include screenshots of example videos.
• Evaluate to explain which ones have inspired you and why.
INSTITUTION RESEARCH
RESEARCH 3 DIFFERENT RECORD LABELS THAT ARE
INFLUENTIAL IN YOUR GENRE
• Must be 1 page long
• Give some background information about each company. What is there ethos? How
successful are there? What kinds of bands do they sign?
• List some key artists that are signed to that label.
• Evaluate to suggest which label you would want your artist signed by and why?
MUSIC VIDEO ANALYSIS
Analyse two different music videos from the same
genre using media language.
• Must 2 pages long
• See the separate help PowerPoint on blog for information on how to do this.
AUDIENCE RESEARCH
CONDUCT A QUESTIONNAIRE TO FIND OUT ABOUT
YOUR TARGET AUDIENCE
• Must be 1 A3 page long
• You must ask at least 10 relevant question to your target audience.
• You must present the findings as charts and analyze the findings. How will this research
impact upon your production?
• For a higher mark, include a detailed interview with a member of your audience.
TREATMENT
Produce a treatment for music video ready for
pitching on 13th October
• Must be 1 page long

STORYBOARD

COSTUME & PROPS
Produce an A3 Page that shows the planning of your
costumes and props.
It would be good practise to include a moodboard to
show your of inspiration.
Take pictures of your photographs and props, then
explain your choices.
