Lesson objective
• To understand the expectations of the second half of question 1.
• To explore both genre and audience (in relation to a set no. of
theorists)
Starter
Genre : Consider both your foundation and advanced portfolios. If you
had to discuss and evidence your understanding of genre which would
you choose and why?
Narrative : As above, but considering if you had to explore the
narrative; which portfolio and why?
Homework : Give me your homework
Introduction : Genre
• The point of the question is to consider one of
your projects in terms of genre.
• You need to bring in theory too; to make it
seem like you had a firm media-related basis.

Guidance to the Marker
To make it simple…
• I have selected roughly five theories/theorists
to apply regardless of the question you
receive; you just need to remember what they
have to say.
If you were to do music video
• You could discuss how you dressed your actors,
altered shots to include close ups of the sexual
bits of girls in order to conform to Mulvey’s
suggestion
• You could refer to Goodwin and suggest how your
music video met the criteria and therefore could
be easily identifiable as pop music genre because
you followed the conventions which he suggested
define the genre.

If you had to discuss and evidence your understanding of genre which would you choose and why? Narrative : As above, but considering if you had to explore the narrative; which portfolio and why?   • 2. Introduction : Genre • The point of the question is to consider one of your projects in terms of genre. • You need to bring in theory too; to make it seem like you had a firm media-related basis.

  • 7. To make it simple… • I have selected roughly five theories/theorists to apply regardless of the question you receive; you just need to remember what they have to say.

If you were to do music video • You could discuss how you dressed your actors, altered shots to include close ups of the sexual bits of girls in order to conform to Mulvey’s suggestion • You could refer to Goodwin and suggest how your music video met the criteria and therefore could be easily identifiable as pop music genre because you followed the conventions which he suggested define the genre.
