Why White Killer Whales
Scientists are now worried after a group of killer whales appeared in a group in the Northern part of
the Pacific Ocean. This whale belongs to the dolphin family, and is considered the largest in that
family. The whale is also known as orca and has teeth. Most of them feed on diverse diet, but
individual whales have their own prey. There are those who feed on fish, while others hunt for
dolphins and seals. They are known as apex predators because no animal can dare to prey on them.
They are cosmopolitan and can be found on any ocean in the world.
These whales are social and live together in matrilineal groups. They are known because of the
sophisticated hunting skills which is common to their whole group. This article will explain why white

Types of killer whales There are three types of killer whales that are available on major oceans in the
world including:
Resident: They are mostly seen in Northern pacific coastal waters. They feed exclusively on fish. They
live cohesively in groups. The female whales in this group have dorsal fins that end up in a corner.
They are mostly seen in Washington and British Columbia areas.
Transient This type of white killer whales feed exclusively on marine mammals. Generally, they travel
in groups of six animals and have tight family bonds. Their female counterparts have triangular dorsal
fins that are pointed.
Offshore This is a killer whale that was discovered in the North east pacific region in 1988. They feed
exclusively on the schooling fish.
Scientists have embarked on research to ascertain the inbreeding of this mysterious whale. This will
help to prepare for the invisible threat posed by these whales. This predator has not listed as one of the
endangered ocean species. These predators are dangerous even to human life.

The Lexus Es Is A Luxury Sedan Requiring No Introduction
The Lexus ES is a luxury sedan requiring no introduction. Now in its sixth generation, the ES line is
one of two models that launched the Lexus brand in 1989 (the flagship LS is the other one) and
remains Lexus top selling model behind the RX SUV.
The ES line has always represented a front wheel drive model powered by a V6 engine. Only since
2013 has a hybrid 300h variant been offered, a surprising fact to some given that nearly every other
Lexus line has offered a gas electric hybrid.
Model Year Changes
A 2017 Lexus ES 350 model was a recent weekly driver and there are several changes of note over
last year. The standard equipment list now includes rain sensing wipers and the Lexus Safety System+
package. The LSS+ features a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
All models also come with a power tilt and slide moonroof.
Factory options include 18 inch alloy wheels, Bi LED headlamps with LED daytime running lights,
fog lamps and automatic high beams, and a one touch power trunk.
Interior Features and Options
The Lexus ES is classified as a midsize luxury sedan, but it seems larger than that. This model seats
five in comfort with generous amounts of head, shoulder, hip, and leg room all around. This is where
the sedan s front wheel drive layout works to the advantage of the ES no big drivetrain hump to
interfere with leg space.
Plush and supportive bucket seats with 10 way power support are found up front. A three place bench
seat is in the second row with a pass through to the trunk. By the way, the trunk measures 15.2 cubic
feet or about average for this segment.
Standard equipment includes full power accessories; leather or imitation leather (NuLuxe) seats;
wood, imitation leather, and piano black trim; an analog clock; personal lamps, puddle lights; and
zoned climate control. This model also comes with a remote touch controller, a mouse like device for
controlling audio and navigation.

The Miller s Tale Essay
The Canterbury Tales by Geoffrey Chaucer consists of several characters from various social classes.
Together, these characters go on a pilgrimage to Canterbury and along the journey they all tell
different tales. In order to write this book, Chaucer decided to go on his own pilgrimage and to also
observe people in his everyday life in order to make the characters and the book itself realistic. Many
authors like Chaucer will take real life experiences and incorporate them into their novels. In The
Canterbury Tales, Chaucer uses the characters in order to reveal his inner most opinions of his past.
Chaucer s solicitous portrayal of contrary women in The Miller s Tale can be traced back to his
tolerance of the affair between his wife and his best friend. For example, Alison from The Miller s
Tale is having an affair with Nicholas and warns him that My husband is so full of jealousy, unless
you watch your step and hold your breath I know for certain it will be my death (Chaucer 91). This
evidence suggests that Alison was aware of her wrong doing and knew she ... Show more content on

This having been his second and possibly third time visiting Italy, the Italian influence became more
apparent in his work after this visit. The Knight s Tale represents Chaucer s second attempt to adapt
the material of the Teseida written by Italian poet, Giovanni Boccaccio (Rossignal). The tale is about
two prisoner knights who are fighting for the love of one woman. This tale contains the exact
characters and plot of Boccaccio s Teseida. In other words, Chaucer s visit to Italy and his
enlightenment on Italian poets drew him to incorporate an Italian poet s work into his very own, The
Canterbury Tales, but more specifically The Knight s Tale . Not only did Chaucer use Teseida but the
Decameron provided direct parallels for The Reeve s Tale, The Clerk s Tale, The Merchant s Tale, The
Franklin s Tale, and The Shipman s

Application Essay To Phi Theta Kappa
Attending the upcoming international conference will help me grow, both culturally and intellectually.
I do not have many opportunities to travel, and I feel that this will be a great chance for me to expand
my world, and learn more about Phi Theta Kappa.
I believe that learning from this trip will help me to better serve my chapter and my school. This
experience will help me learn more about Phi Theta Kappa, and what I can do to improve my chapter.
I have lived in my own little bubble for far to long, I need this chance to spread myself out, and really
learn about other people and places. This experience would be very rewarding for me, and help me to
expand my horizons.
I would love this opportunity to be involved with Phi Theta Kappa This will be an excellent way for
me to meet other Phi Theta Kappa members. I can get to know more people in similar situations to my

Tennessee Williams Research Paper
Tennessee Williams was born Thomas Lanier Williams, on the 26th of March, 1911 in Columbus,
Mississippi and was the second of three children to Cornelius and Edwina Williams. Tennessee recalls
his father as a womanizing alcoholic , and his mother to be overbearing, sexually repressed and
mentally disturbed, and believed there have been too many instances of extreme eccentricity and even
lunacy in my family . Tennessee Williams had a younger brother named Dakin and an older sister
Rose, who he loved more dearly than anyone. Rose was diagnosed with Schizophrenia, and spent
most of her life in mental institutions following a prefrontal lobotomy as authorized by Edwina. Rose
was his muse, and the haunting inspiration for many of his female ... Show more content on

The 1960 s proved to be tumultuous. Williams hit a creative and emotional collapse, and became
depressed, disillusioned and addicted to prescriptive drugs, and in 1969, his brother Dakin admitted
him to the psychiatric ward at Barnes Hospital in Saint Louis for three months, to which Williams
called a snake pit . After dismissal he started writing again in an attempt to reclaim fame, however a
deep paranoia set in which alienated him from loved ones. After more poor reviews, he turned back to
alcohol, amphetamines and sedatives as a means of coping. Lyle Leverich believes that, the greatest
indignity Williams was made to suffer in his last years was seeing his reputation as a playwright
tarnished by his dissolution . On the 24th of February in 1983, Williams was found dead in his room
of Hotel Elysée, New York, where it was later believed that he had choked on a prescription bottle
cap. Tennessee Williams remains one of the most exciting and articulate American dramatists who,
according to renowned literary critic Stark Young, was a poetic innovator who refused to be confined
to the usual sterilities of our playwriting patterns . Williams was widely acknowledged as being ahead
of his time, with a

Explain The Five Steps To Describe Baye Theorem And...
Lauren Berman Chapter 8 Biostatistics Data 1.) Describe Bayes theorem and alternative to Bayes
theorem. Bayes theorem is used to answer two different questions, If the test results are positive, what
is the probability that the patient has the disease? and If the test results are negative, what is the
probability that the patient does not have the disease (93). In the formula for Bayes theorem, the
numerator is the true positive results and the denominator tells about true positive results and false
positive results. An alternative to Bayes theorem is used in genetics (94). 2.) Explain the five steps to
setting up a decision tree. There are five steps involved in creating a decision tree. The first step is to
identify and set limits to the problem, for example whether or not the gallbladder of a person without
symptoms should be removed. The second step is to diagram the options. This can be done by starting
with the patient s current clinical status, then laying out the different options and the outcomes that
could come from each option. The third step is to obtain information on each option. In this step, the
possibility of each outcome occurring should be assessed and then the outcomes should be separated
into desirable and undesirable outcomes. The fourth step is to compare utility values and the fifth step
is to perform sensitivity analysis (97 98). 3.) Define the two different types of meta analysis. A
qualitative meta analysis is a systemic review of the literature on a particular topic (99). Different
articles on the same topic are reviewed and the results, strengths, and weaknesses of each article are
assessed. A quantitative meta analysis can be presented in two ways, either the data are analyzed as
reported in the literature, or the raw data from multiple studies are obtained and aggregated (100). 4.)
Explain the difference between independence rule, product rule, and addition rule. The independence
rule says that one probability is not influenced by the outcome of another probability (101). In this
situation, if the two probabilities are independent of each other, then the trial can be repeated twice in
a row and multiple times. The product rule is used to determine the

The Boston Catholic Church s Power
The word power is a term that has various different meanings philosophically, socially, religiously,
etc., which is why it is crucial to define it before discussing the Boston Catholic Church s power.
Power is defined in various ways, but the definition that is utilized in this essay is when an individual
or institution [has] the ability to achieve something, whether by right or by control or influence. [It] is
the ability to mobilize economic, social, or political forces in order to achieve a result. It is also
important to understand power in the terms of effect and affect. Some may argue that in order for
something to have power, the institution or person must have the ability to both effect and affect,
affect meaning to have an ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Boston Catholic Church s dangerous employment of power prevented justice and instead allowed
for the growth in number of churches and children that were exposed to the sexually abusive priests
through the concealment of the abuse.
The menacing power that the Boston Catholic Church practiced pre 2002 period while the sexual
abuse took place traces back to its long history. Its history reveals that the church did not always
possess a lot of power or acquire a lot of prominence, but as the make up of the population changed
through immigration, so did the church s influence, power, and prominence within the Boston society.
The Massachusetts Bay colony during the mid 1700s was a largely Puritan based community where
Roman Catholics did not have much influence socially or politically. Roman Catholics were not
allowed to hold any positions within the Massachusetts public office, placing limitations on their
ability to grow in power. However, as Irish people began to immigrate to the US and inhabit the
Massachusetts area, the number of Irish Catholics in Boston had risen to some two thousand by 1820,
to more than five thousand by 1825, and to just past the seven thousand mark by 1830. The Catholic
population slowly began to compete against the Protestant population for power in Boston. By the mid
1850s, Catholics began to exercise political

Analysis Of The Woman Hollering Creek
In the Woman Hollering Creek, Sandra Cisneros makes use of several short stories to expose the
Mexican culture destined gender roles inequalities against women. From an utterly young age, most
Mexican girls are endangered to take the household responsibilities as their core duty. Once they reach
adolescence, they imperiled to think about marriage as the unrivaled way for them to leave their parent
s support. I argue that the Mexican culture through the medium of tradition and media are assembling
a society in which woman, from the moment they are born, bear a life of parental and marital
submission.
Moreover, in the Woman Hollering Creek, Cisneros exposes the story of Cleofilas Hernandez.
Cisneros unveils parental submission in Cleofilas life on the first page. Cisneros writes, The day Don
Serafin gave Juan Pedro Martinez Sanchez permission to take Cleofilas Enriqueta DeLeon Hernandez
as his bride... (Cisneros 43). This is significant because it emphasizes the power Don Serafin has over
Cleofilas life, he is in power to directly decide whom she is going to marry by rejecting or accepting
individual. Although, many would argue that rather giving Serafin Cleofilas is just following the
tradition of asking the parents. Since her mother is deceased her father is the only option, nonetheless,
the diction suggests that rather than Cleofilas asking for permission appears that Cleofilas is being
given away. In this instance, her hand is not remotely mentioned thus laying the

The Real Inspector Hound Essay
Argument of a play: A play within a play in The Real Inspector Hound.
The Real Inspector Hound is a play by Tom Stoppard whose plot follows two theater critics called
BirdBoot and Moon as they attended a play in London. The play also traces the narrative arc of the
two theater critics as well as the narrative arc of the murder mystery play that they are assigned to
review. In the play, Tom Stoppard provides a story and a one act parody play about the nature of role
playing in a detective fiction. This paper explores the play within a play as explored by Stoppard
where by the end of the play, both the internal and external play becomes entangled and becomes
almost impossible to separate. A play within a play is where a play is presented ... Show more content

In the play, the main characters operate within two structural units. For example, they acquire a single
identity in the play as their actual identities and another in the inner play as their fictive identities. The
internal, which is the play within a play and the external which is the Stoppard s play are intimately
connected with the play only functioning when it includes the play within a play and the play within a
play highly necessitates the external play s context. However, the distinction that exists between their
identities between the plays is not that absolute. The line that separates the characters becomes weaker
as they move across the boundary that separates the inner from the outer play. This is replicated in the
line separating the reality of the world from the fiction of the Muldoon Manor s world. Stoppard was
able to provide a suggestion of the nature of role playing as well as the power of illusion over reality
through his creation of a rigid structural demarcation line after which he violates the line through the
entrance into the play by his

Australia s Economic Growth
Economic growth
An increase in the capacity of an economy to produce goods and services, compared from one period

Inflation is a general increase in prices and fall in the purchasing value of money.
The growth of an economy is thought of not only as an increase in productive capacity but also as an
improvement in the quality of life to the people of that economy.
For comparing one country s economic growth to another, GDP or GNP per capita should be used as
these take into account population differences between countries.

Health Education And Planning Assessments
Within certain themes within Health Education, planning assessments can be used to show
understanding e.g. weekly food plans within the Physical Health content. Overall Health Education
would be an excellent addition to work alongside PSHE and Citizenship, the making of a statutory
health education would highly benefit its pupils in their personal development.
The second subject to be added into the curriculum would be Multi Media studies. This subject will
reflect today s society and teach skills that are needed due the growth of technology (Wise 2000;

This is because as discussed in the National Association for the Education of Young Children (2016),
young children also want to use technology that older individuals use (National Association for the
Education of Young Children, 2016). By providing Multi Media as a subject it means younger
children can seek and develop their own skills and creativity through the basic use of technology e.g.
using basic computer programs/ learning how to take a photo on a camera. Furthermore while there is
a current GCSE called Media Studies (AQA, 2016), it can only be studied within year 9 onwards
meaning pupils might not have learnt any skills within the previous years regarding media which
could be a disadvantage for some. The GCSE is also time constricted as it has to be taught within just
two years.
Similar to that of the current I.C.T subject within the national curriculum, Multi Media studies will
allow for creativity (Department for Education, 2013), the amount of areas of study mean that pupils
can thrive and creative within the subject. The National Advisory Committee on Creative and Cultural
Education (1998:3) report states that there is stronger emphasis on creative and cultural education .
The Multi Media Studies subject would allow for creativity to be shown through numerous ways such
as through graphic design, game design, filming, editing as well as broadcasting and photography.

Neanderthals, Ancestors to Human Beings Essay
The most recent ancestor to the modern human, Homo neanderthalensis existed between 300,000 and
35,000 years ago. Originating in Africa, ancestors of the early Neanderthals migrated northwards
almost 800,000 years ago. These migrants colonized much of the Old World with the majority based
in Europe and small groups scattered throughout the Middle East and Asia. Historically, the
Neanderthals were among the most resiliant creatures to exist on Earth. As a population, they thrived
during the European ice age 40,000 years ago. This ice age enveloped the majority of Northern and
Central Europe and due to their physique were the Neanderthals were able to surive. Physcially, the

Their weapons which consisted at most consisted of spears which required confrontational hunting.
The average Neanderthal life spanned thirty years due to the extreme physical strain and harsh living
conditions of life during this period of Earth s history. Traditionally, Neanderthals have been viewed
as large, hulking ape like beings that survived by aggression and power through the harshest
conditions possible on earth. They have been painted as unsophisticated and unable to compete with
humans on an intellectual level. These academics theorized that superior human intellect and
reasoning gave humans the advantage in hunting game and securing the most valuable natural
resource, eventually driving the Homo neanderthalensis to extinction 30,000 years ago. Popular
culture describes Neanderthals as first viewed by science as large, hulking ape like beings. However,
new evidence suggests that one of the first reconstructed Neanderthal skeletons did not consider that
the individual suffered from acute arthritis. Despite unique, this Neanderthal s hunching posture was
associated with the entire species, giving one the impression of a brutish caveman . This new
understanding has reformed research on the Neanderthal and a new understanding of humanity s

The Movie Redwood Highway Release Essay
The movie, Redwood Highway was release in April 2013. The main character, Marie Vaughan
(Shirley Knight), is an older woman who resides in the Mountain Meadows Retirement Community in
Oregon, alienated from her family and unhappy with her circumstances. Marie s character is portrayed
as a cantankerous, stubborn and lonely old woman. Marie aggrieved she was forced to be placed in the
retirement community, Mountain Meadows, by her son, Michael. Marie takes a long walk to the
downtown instead of around the retirement community grounds against the concerned son, Michael s
recommendation. Marie s behavior may be perceived as she is rebellion toward her son, but I believe
she is trying to maintain only independence she has left, being able to walk. As Quadagno explained
personality influences the way an individual adapts to changes associated with normal aging.
(Quadagno, 2013, pg. 169) In my opinion, Marie s character portrayed a strongly proud woman who
resisted losing independence.
The Movie, Redwood Highway, showed two stereotypes of aging from the Quadagno s Aging and the
life course: An introduction to social gerontology book. First, most retirees are lonely and depressed.

Disadvantages Of Guha
Guha, in Adivasis, Naxalites and Democracy asserts that Adivasis in India have been deprived to a
large extent despite living in the democratic state of India. He argues that Adivasis have lost more than
they have gained in the last six decades and compares their progress to other Indian minorities such as
Dalits and Muslims, which ultimately reveals that the Adivasis have not been unable to articulate their
grievances through the democratic and electoral processes, unlike the other minorities. Guha then
examines the uprising of Maoist revolutions and the rise of the Naxalite influence, which have been
caused by failures of the state and of the formal political system. There are two broad reasons which
Guha provides for the growing deprivation of the Adivasis. The first tragedy is that the state itself has
treated the Adivasis with disrespect and condensation and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He makes comparisons between Dalit and Muslim leaders who have in the last six decades acquired
substantial roles in the political milieu of India. Why hasn t there been representation from the
Adivasis? Guha believes that Adivasis do not have majority in any single peninsular state of India,
therefore during elections, tribal votes do not make an impact as compared to Dalit votes. Guha also
observes that the Dalits have had influential leaders (such as B.R Ambedkar) who have streamlined
their marginalization, unlike Adivasis, who have never had a leader who could inspire admiration.
Another important point highlighted is the role of contemporary media in projecting mainly Dalit and
Muslim issues and not those concerning Adivasis. Therefore due to the negligence of the government,
Maoists tend to influence the tribals into believing their socio economic advancement agenda,
according to Guha does not exist as the Maoists main agenda is to capture power through armed

Innocence In John Knowles A Separate Peace
John Knowles captivating novel A Separate Peace explores the eventful life of two adolescent students
in New Hampshire during a time of complication and chaos in World War II. Finny, an astonishingly
athletic and adventurous boy, gets himself and his best friend Gene Forrester into a bit of mischief
during their experiences in school, where he tends to do the opposite of what others expect him to do,
making him a truly unique character. Despite living in a time of World War II, the evils of the world
do not exist in Finny s world because of his inherent innocence. In his time at school, the actions and
optimistic opinions of Finny make him the epitome of innocence, but when the events of his life force
him to confront the hatred and evil ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
After suffering severe damage to both his leg and his innocence, Finny reveals that he [has] been
writing to the Army and to the Navy and to the Marines because he will hate it everywhere if [he is]
not in this war (Knowles 190). Finny s eventual acknowledgement of the war and attempt to enlist in
the military display the internal change that he undergoes throughout the novel; Finny s feelings
toward the war symbolize the destruction of his innocence. When Brinker confronts Finny about his
accident, Have you ever thought that you didn t just fall out of that tree? he shakes his head sharply,
closing his eyes...he [starts] across the marble floor towards the doors, resulting in his body falling
clumsily down the white marble stairs (Knowles 169,176,177). Finny begins to feel his innocent world
finally collapse when Brinker and the other boys force him to acknowledge the fact that his best pal
pushed him off of the tree. Finny falling down the stairs in chaotic fashion symbolizes realization that
his world begins to fall apart. Finny s once innocent but now crushed personality displays how even
the most optimistic people of the world will inevitably undergo internal struggle and change when
they confront the evil in the

Ordinary People
Interestingly, this documentary is based on the lives of five individuals and their experiences with
Russia s transition that came from the collapse of the Soviet Union. Moreover, four of the five people
have known each other from childhood and lived in similar circumstances under the authoritarian rule.
I will be focusing on how Olga, Andrei, Borya and Lyuba who are ordinary citizens have managed to
live under an authoritarian rule. To begin with, USSR was the union of 15 socialist republic that
included: Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belorussia, Estonia, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Kirgiziya Latvia, Lithuania,
Moldavia, Russia,Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Ukraine, and Uzbekistan. Without a doubt, USSR adopted
a authoritarian regime in which it the socialist had the ultimate ownership in all areas of manufacture,
distribution, and trade.
This centralized economic system lasted from 1922 until 1991 and it function under the Communist
party. The philosophy behind this authoritarian regime derived from Marxism Leninism in which it
valued and pushed for a one party state. The main theme behind this documentary is about the
experiences of five people that were greatly affected by the political change. These people were able
to express and tell their story about living under USSR totalitarian authoritarian regime and then to

The Scarecrow
A farmer and his family lived on their farm in a little town in Alberta. The farmer s son and his friends
built a scarecrow one day. They built a very ugly scarecrow. That night, there was a storm and the
wind got strong. It began to rain with thunder and lightening. The boy woke up and looked out of the
window.
The lightning flashed, and he was able to see the scarecrow. The scarecrow seemed farther than where
he had put it. The boy kept looking out for the scarecrow every time there was lightning and each time
the scarecrow seemed to be at a little different place. The boy was very tired and so he said to himself
that he was just imagining things. He went back to sleep but was soon woken up by loud thunder. He
looked out the window but he could no longer see the scarecrow.
The boy decided to go out into the field and search for the scarecrow, thinking maybe the wind had
blown it away. When he got outside, he looked around but didn t see it anywhere. He ran to a big tree
in the field, but he tripped and fell to the ground. He got up and looked up at the big tree. The

Eight Benefits Of Repercussions
Many of the benefits of contacts are well known, the most obvious being that you can correct your
vision without the encumbrances of wearing glasses. With improvements in the styling and design of
glasses, they aren t the encumbrances they were in the past. This is especially true of high prescription
glasses, which used to be limited to thick coke bottle lenses. These not only distort your facial
appearance but are very heavy. On the other hand, modern high index lenses are thin and lightweight.
They are stylish when used with the right frame. However, contacts are generally best when you re
doing physical activities that may damage or cause you to lose your glasses. This is especially true
when engaged in rough and tumble activities requiring good vision. That being said, here are eight ...

worry about touching and possibly injuring or infecting your eyes with your fingers as you would with
contacts. Contacts require proper technique when putting them on or taking them off. Good eye hand
coordination is necessary. There is no risk of eye infection. Putting on high index glasses doesn t
require touching your eyes. This isn t the case with contacts. They and their cases require regular
cleaning and disinfection. You must have clean hands when touching your contacts. This routine must
become a habit. Unlike brushing your teeth, it doesn t require months of neglect before problems set

mandatory because bacterial infection is not to be trifled

Government Structures And Religious Beliefs In Spanish...
Society s norms and expectations more often than not impact an individual s actions and ideology,
whether they are from Ancient Greece or modern day United States. Government structures and
religious beliefs in the society of Spanish Settlers and in early American slavery lead individuals to
judge other races because of the disassociation between two cultures and generalized concepts about
the other ethnic on the basis of hearsay and rumor. The setup of the Spaniard s society and the
American Slave Trade system influences the minds of the individuals a part of them, stemming from
their governments and religions.
In the society of the Spanish Settlers and early American slavery, government structures cause the
settlers and slaves to quickly judge other races due to their lack of association. In La Relación , the
Spanish Settlers alienation from the natives in America causes the Spaniards to criticize the locals
because of the differences between the two, specifically the contrasts in their governments. Álvar
Núñez Cabeza de Vaca, as the narrator of La Relación , says, The islanders wanted to make physicians
of us without examination or a review of diplomas ... We scoffed ... at the idea we knew how to heal ,
(Cabeza 78). When the natives tell the Spanish Settlers to become medicine men, the Conquistadors
judge the natives way of determining their qualification. In Spain, one needs schooling to become a
certified doctor. Since the two groups have minimal direct interaction,

Essay about Evelyn Waugh s Decline and Fall
Evelyn Waugh s Decline and Fall
Evelyn Waugh was born in 1903. He is not considered to be a distinguished novelist but his writing is
notable because they satirise much that was bizarre in English society. His father was a publisher and
his first novel, Decline and fall, was published in 1928. It is a satire on the preparatory school
industry. It is in the style and humour of Charles Dickens. Evelyn Waugh achieves his purpose through
exaggeration. He paints characters that are larger than life, just like Dickens. We also see this method
used in today s television in programmes like Spitting Image where gargoyle like images of prominent
personalities behave in an outrageous way. The descriptions ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Evelyn Waugh satirises the way that the school employs teachers. They don t care about qualifications
needed to be a teacher; they just employ and rip you off. For example Paul Pennyfeather does not
teach music but he has to. Paul later ends up as a schoolmaster because he gets expelled from the
school for indecent behaviour. This school is nowhere near what any reader would expect it to be. It s
absolutely a joke.
Waugh continues this narrative conversational tone to continue Pennyfeather´s story. He makes it
seem normal that Church and Gargoyle, again a name Dickens might have chosen to represent the
contrast between the good church and the evil looking gargoyles, can get him a job without the
necessary qualifications, even though testimonials are requested. They decide he is fit for the post
even though he does not know German. Similarly, he is told to give organ lessons to Beste
Chetwynde. Not one of the characters at Llanabba Castle, including the lead Augustus Fagan Esquire,
as he likes too be addressed, seems at all concerned with education, or qualified to educate. Church
and Gargoyle have it in the forth category, that of bad schools. Dr. Fagan interviews for a few minutes
and calls it A most exhausting interview . The

Strengths And Weaknesses Of Democracy In Mexico
Democracy is an essential factor in governance. If we govern democratically, we are likely to get more
gains in the society since everyone feels that they get fair treatment. Democracy, however, has its
weaknesses since it is not a perfect process. In this section, we are going to evaluate the strengths and
weaknesses of democracy in Mexico.
Strengths of democracy
Democracies allow people to select those that are governing them. After Salinas s leadership we see a
challenge of succession as he declares that he is not going to run for office. It also allows for nations
to create specific standards that a person must meet before they take leadership roles. The political
rule in Mexico was once renowned as the perfect dictatorship. The government was characterized by
regular elections, uninterrupted ruling by the same political party and widespread legitimacy. There
was no freedom or fairness with regards to political activism. Participation in politics was only
encouraged when it offered support to the ruling party, and there was repression when the objective of
political participation was initiating change. But with democracy in Mexico, there were changes in the
way of ruling. The reforms encouraged the opposition party to challenge the ruling party, and there
were a lot of opportunities for Mexicans to engage in political activism. A combination of ... Show

I Attended View Park Preparatory Charter High School Essay
Before I was born, my mother knew her baby girl would be a success story. Now that baby girl is a
motivated young woman at the University of California, Berkeley who will not allow anything to
deter her from her goals. How did I get here you ask? It s simple just like all students I was tracked but
somehow I was lucky.
I attended View Park Preparatory Charter High School. This is a small charter school located in the
hood of Los Angles California and it is composed of a 98% African American student population. I
could not have asked for a more supportive community. Similar to all public schools in California we
were required to take CST s which are California Standards Tests. This test compares your class s
understanding of the different subject material with all schools in California. I remember during
freshman year, none of my classmates took this exam seriously simply because it had no direct impact
on our grades. As a result, our scores were horrible and our school lost funding. The next year the
administration decided that in order to encourage students to try their best, they would give an
incentive. The arrangement was that if someone received a score of a proficient or higher on the exam
then, the grade in the subject they tested well on would increase by one mark. As you can imagine,
this did increase the school s overall test performance.
As it turns out, our school also had another motive for distributing this exam. This was View Park s
way of determining

The Epic Of Gilgamesh By Andrew George And Monkey Essay
Usually if a woman were to present herself to be a powerful being, she s unpleasant, distasteful, or
even exasperating. Women who express their sexual sides are viewed as loose, disrespectful to
themselves, or despicable. People often forget that women can be powerful and sexual beings. Women
in society, nowadays and even three thousand years ago have always dealt with these problems simply
because they are not male. A woman could show complete class, intelligence, and ambition and
portray herself to be a powerful or even sexual being and she would still be given a hard time. The
Epic of Gilgamesh translated by Andrew George and Monkey translated by Arthur Waley have
fantastic examples of women being looked up to for being immortal, powerful, and sexless while other
women are looked down upon for having any association with sexual activity regardless of power or
being mortal. My ultimate judgment about the view of women in the societies of both of these books
is, even though there are very few women that are respected, it is explicit that women who hold
qualities of sexual desire are looked down upon more than women who hold qualities of power. Both
texts are harsh when it comes to depicting a female character. Shamhat the harlot and Ishtar the
goddess of love are both main female characters in The Epic of Gilgamesh, both representing
temptresses. Blue Orchid is a female character from the novel Monkey and she is represented as a
powerless woman. Shamhat the harlot is

Budget Cuts In Schools
Seeming insignificant and being seen as an unreliable and an inconsistent source of money, classes
such as art, poetry, or drama get cut. For these classes of which have been an inspiration to many
artists to be let go, the school must undergo budget cuts. Negatively affecting the learning
environment, budget cuts have been public enemy number one in schools worldwide. Due to these
cuts teachers get laid off and those students who were in that class go on to other classes, essentially,
doubling the original class size. However, what do we do about those who seem to enjoy the arts
provided by their school? Let alone, those who have become inspired and envision becoming world
renown someday? Decreasing desires and disregardment of the importance

The midterm is coming up fast, and I am excited that I have already completed two of the four steps
for memorizing in Experience Psychology. The first two steps, organizing and encoding, I have
completed as we moved through each session. Encoding early on is an important step because I was
able to introduce each concept to my brain one by one as it was learned, rather than cramming it all in
at once. That leaves me with two steps to complete before I can complete my test: Rehearsing and
Retrieving. In order to rehearse, or practice, the information I have learned I first must create the right
environment. Where I am studying makes a large impact on how well I will take in the information
(Silver, 2008). I know that I work best studying off of paper (not a computer screen), being
somewhere comfortable, and that having a familiar sound like a song I know by heart, or a TV show I

about myself I decided that outside in the sun with my ear buds in would be a perfect place to

Post war Tension In some ways, the conflict began even before the guns fell silent in Germany and

ideologies and visions of the post war world prevented U.S. President Harry S Truman and Soviet

U.s. Constitution And The Constitution
The U.S. Constitution, as adopted by the Philadelphia Convention on September 17, 1787, sets out
three distinct branches of national government and provides powers to each that serve as a check on
the others. The branches include the executive branch: the president, the legislative branch: congress
and the judicial branch: the Supreme Court. The Constitution is referred to as a living document
because it is open to constant change. Additionally, the Constitution is open to constant interpretation
by the Supreme Court. When the document was written over 200 years ago, abortion and automatic

The first ten amendments to the Constitution, called the Bill of Rights, were ratified as a group by
December 15, 1791(Bianco, 2013). Within the Bill of Rights only three amendments stand out in
today world. Amendment One states that each citizen has the right to the freedom of religion, speech,
and press and is allowed to assemble and petition the government (Bianco, 2013). While we all have
the right of the freedom of religion we at the same token have taken religious freedoms a bit too far at
times. We have removed it from schools, yet we allow religious rights to those that are terrorizing our
country. The second amendment states that everyone has the right to have a gun (for lawful purposes)
and the right to form as a militia (Bianco, 2013). While this amendment is good for law abiding
citizens the argument remains for those that obtain guns illegally or possess weapons that should not
be possessed by an ordinary person. Gun advocates debate that many of the issues with guns in
America are not those of law abiding citizens but of those obtained illegally or in possession of those
that should not have them. Amendment nine states that citizens hold rights that are not stated in the
Constitution, and that those not stated have the right to be protected (Bianco, 2013). In other means
the Bill of Rights state that the government can t violate every liberty not specifically outlined in the
constitution examples could include Equal

Theory Of Perfectionism
According to Dunn, Whelton, and Sharpe (2006), due to working as academics involves having to
constantly receive criticism from colleagues and students as well as bearing the expectations to deliver
work in the highest standards, university academics are therefore seen as the most appropriate group
to represent the professional group for the study of perfectionism. The career as a university professor
is indeed very challenging, whereby everyday work entails critical scrutiny from peers. In addition to
that, the environment that these professors have to face each day are somewhat trying and
unaccommodating (Gmelch, Wilke, Lovrich, 1986) which can further aggravate dysfunctional
personality tendencies. All these criteria may one way or the other give ... Show more content on

According to a study conducted by Dr. Sherry and colleagues, it was found that the existence of a high
level of perfectionism among professors led to a lesser likelihood of them producing publications,
gaining valuable citations and also publishing their work in high impact journals or in other words
lower research productivity. This could impact their career in the long run due to the more they had
perfectionistic tendencies within them, the less productive they were in research. Whereas there is
general agreement in the literature on the definition of perfectionism, Dr. Sherry is of the opinion that
perfectionists are individuals who either strive to execute a task perfectly or not executing it at all.
They can never settle for less in anything that they do and may continuously reflect on their abilities
which can lead to an exaggerated self checking of not committing any mistakes whatsoever

published in 1996 was even appointed to a Newberry Honor Book. It is a story whose genre is survival

Summary: Brian was a sad boy whose parent got divorced, and he had to stay with father for the

went down to the forest, to the trees, but slid down to a lake. Brian, with a hatchet and a windbreaker

Now in its sixth generation, the ES line is one of two models that launched the Lexus brand in 1989 (the flagship LS is the other one) and remains Lexus top selling model behind the RX SUV. The ES line has always represented a front wheel drive model powered by a V6 engine. Only since 2013 has a hybrid 300h variant been offered, a surprising fact to some given that nearly every other Lexus line has offered a gas electric hybrid. • 7. The Miller s Tale Essay The Canterbury Tales by Geoffrey Chaucer consists of several characters from various social classes. Together, these characters go on a pilgrimage to Canterbury and along the journey they all tell different tales. In order to write this book, Chaucer decided to go on his own pilgrimage and to also observe people in his everyday life in order to make the characters and the book itself realistic. Many authors like Chaucer will take real life experiences and incorporate them into their novels. In The Canterbury Tales, Chaucer uses the characters in order to reveal his inner most opinions of his past. Chaucer s solicitous portrayal of contrary women in The Miller s Tale can be traced back to his tolerance of the affair between his wife and his best friend. For example, Alison from The Miller s Tale is having an affair with Nicholas and warns him that My husband is so full of jealousy, unless you watch your step and hold your breath I know for certain it will be my death (Chaucer 91). This evidence suggests that Alison was aware of her wrong doing and knew she ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This having been his second and possibly third time visiting Italy, the Italian influence became more apparent in his work after this visit. The Knight s Tale represents Chaucer s second attempt to adapt the material of the Teseida written by Italian poet, Giovanni Boccaccio (Rossignal). The tale is about two prisoner knights who are fighting for the love of one woman. This tale contains the exact characters and plot of Boccaccio s Teseida. In other words, Chaucer s visit to Italy and his enlightenment on Italian poets drew him to incorporate an Italian poet s work into his very own, The Canterbury Tales, but more specifically The Knight s Tale . Not only did Chaucer use Teseida but the Decameron provided direct parallels for The Reeve s Tale, The Clerk s Tale, The Merchant s Tale, The Franklin s Tale, and The Shipman s ... I do not have many opportunities to travel, and I feel that this will be a great chance for me to expand my world, and learn more about Phi Theta Kappa. I believe that learning from this trip will help me to better serve my chapter and my school. This experience will help me learn more about Phi Theta Kappa, and what I can do to improve my chapter. I have lived in my own little bubble for far to long, I need this chance to spread myself out, and really learn about other people and places. This experience would be very rewarding for me, and help me to expand my horizons. I would love this opportunity to be involved with Phi Theta Kappa This will be an excellent way for me to meet other Phi Theta Kappa members. I can get to know more people in similar situations to my own, I can learn from them, and maybe they can learn from me. • 9. Tennessee Williams Research Paper Tennessee Williams was born Thomas Lanier Williams, on the 26th of March, 1911 in Columbus, Mississippi and was the second of three children to Cornelius and Edwina Williams. Tennessee recalls his father as a womanizing alcoholic , and his mother to be overbearing, sexually repressed and mentally disturbed, and believed there have been too many instances of extreme eccentricity and even lunacy in my family . Tennessee Williams had a younger brother named Dakin and an older sister Rose, who he loved more dearly than anyone. Rose was diagnosed with Schizophrenia, and spent most of her life in mental institutions following a prefrontal lobotomy as authorized by Edwina. Rose was his muse, and the haunting inspiration for many of his female ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The 1960 s proved to be tumultuous. Williams hit a creative and emotional collapse, and became depressed, disillusioned and addicted to prescriptive drugs, and in 1969, his brother Dakin admitted him to the psychiatric ward at Barnes Hospital in Saint Louis for three months, to which Williams called a snake pit . After dismissal he started writing again in an attempt to reclaim fame, however a deep paranoia set in which alienated him from loved ones. After more poor reviews, he turned back to alcohol, amphetamines and sedatives as a means of coping. Lyle Leverich believes that, the greatest indignity Williams was made to suffer in his last years was seeing his reputation as a playwright tarnished by his dissolution . On the 24th of February in 1983, Williams was found dead in his room of Hotel Elysée, New York, where it was later believed that he had choked on a prescription bottle cap. Tennessee Williams remains one of the most exciting and articulate American dramatists who, according to renowned literary critic Stark Young, was a poetic innovator who refused to be confined to the usual sterilities of our playwriting patterns . • 10. Explain The Five Steps To Describe Baye Theorem And... Lauren Berman Chapter 8 Biostatistics Data 1.) Describe Bayes theorem and alternative to Bayes theorem. Bayes theorem is used to answer two different questions, If the test results are positive, what is the probability that the patient has the disease? and If the test results are negative, what is the probability that the patient does not have the disease (93). In the formula for Bayes theorem, the numerator is the true positive results and the denominator tells about true positive results and false positive results. An alternative to Bayes theorem is used in genetics (94). 2.) Explain the five steps to setting up a decision tree. There are five steps involved in creating a decision tree. The first step is to identify and set limits to the problem, for example whether or not the gallbladder of a person without symptoms should be removed. The second step is to diagram the options. This can be done by starting with the patient s current clinical status, then laying out the different options and the outcomes that could come from each option. The third step is to obtain information on each option. In this step, the possibility of each outcome occurring should be assessed and then the outcomes should be separated into desirable and undesirable outcomes. The fourth step is to compare utility values and the fifth step is to perform sensitivity analysis (97 98). 3.) Define the two different types of meta analysis. A qualitative meta analysis is a systemic review of the literature on a particular topic (99). Different articles on the same topic are reviewed and the results, strengths, and weaknesses of each article are assessed. A quantitative meta analysis can be presented in two ways, either the data are analyzed as reported in the literature, or the raw data from multiple studies are obtained and aggregated (100). 4.) Explain the difference between independence rule, product rule, and addition rule. The independence rule says that one probability is not influenced by the outcome of another probability (101). In this situation, if the two probabilities are independent of each other, then the trial can be repeated twice in a row and multiple times. The product rule is used to determine the ... The Boston Catholic Church s Power The word power is a term that has various different meanings philosophically, socially, religiously, etc., which is why it is crucial to define it before discussing the Boston Catholic Church s power. Power is defined in various ways, but the definition that is utilized in this essay is when an individual or institution [has] the ability to achieve something, whether by right or by control or influence. The menacing power that the Boston Catholic Church practiced pre 2002 period while the sexual abuse took place traces back to its long history. Its history reveals that the church did not always possess a lot of power or acquire a lot of prominence, but as the make up of the population changed through immigration, so did the church s influence, power, and prominence within the Boston society. The Massachusetts Bay colony during the mid 1700s was a largely Puritan based community where Roman Catholics did not have much influence socially or politically. Roman Catholics were not allowed to hold any positions within the Massachusetts public office, placing limitations on their ability to grow in power. However, as Irish people began to immigrate to the US and inhabit the Massachusetts area, the number of Irish Catholics in Boston had risen to some two thousand by 1820, to more than five thousand by 1825, and to just past the seven thousand mark by 1830. • 12. Analysis Of The Woman Hollering Creek In the Woman Hollering Creek, Sandra Cisneros makes use of several short stories to expose the Mexican culture destined gender roles inequalities against women. From an utterly young age, most Mexican girls are endangered to take the household responsibilities as their core duty. Once they reach adolescence, they imperiled to think about marriage as the unrivaled way for them to leave their parent s support. I argue that the Mexican culture through the medium of tradition and media are assembling a society in which woman, from the moment they are born, bear a life of parental and marital submission. Moreover, in the Woman Hollering Creek, Cisneros exposes the story of Cleofilas Hernandez. Cisneros unveils parental submission in Cleofilas life on the first page. Cisneros writes, The day Don Serafin gave Juan Pedro Martinez Sanchez permission to take Cleofilas Enriqueta DeLeon Hernandez as his bride... (Cisneros 43). This is significant because it emphasizes the power Don Serafin has over Cleofilas life, he is in power to directly decide whom she is going to marry by rejecting or accepting individual. Although, many would argue that rather giving Serafin Cleofilas is just following the tradition of asking the parents. Since her mother is deceased her father is the only option, nonetheless, the diction suggests that rather than Cleofilas asking for permission appears that Cleofilas is being given away. In this instance, her hand is not remotely mentioned thus laying the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 13. The Real Inspector Hound Essay Argument of a play: A play within a play in The Real Inspector Hound. The Real Inspector Hound is a play by Tom Stoppard whose plot follows two theater critics called BirdBoot and Moon as they attended a play in London. The play also traces the narrative arc of the two theater critics as well as the narrative arc of the murder mystery play that they are assigned to review. In the play, Tom Stoppard provides a story and a one act parody play about the nature of role playing in a detective fiction. However, the distinction that exists between their identities between the plays is not that absolute. The line that separates the characters becomes weaker as they move across the boundary that separates the inner from the outer play. This is replicated in the line separating the reality of the world from the fiction of the Muldoon Manor s world. Stoppard was able to provide a suggestion of the nature of role playing as well as the power of illusion over reality through his creation of a rigid structural demarcation line after which he violates the line through the entrance into the play by his ... Women who express their sexual sides are viewed as loose, disrespectful to themselves, or despicable. People often forget that women can be powerful and sexual beings. Women in society, nowadays and even three thousand years ago have always dealt with these problems simply because they are not male. A woman could show complete class, intelligence, and ambition and portray herself to be a powerful or even sexual being and she would still be given a hard time. The Epic of Gilgamesh translated by Andrew George and Monkey translated by Arthur Waley have fantastic examples of women being looked up to for being immortal, powerful, and sexless while other women are looked down upon for having any association with sexual activity regardless of power or being mortal. My ultimate judgment about the view of women in the societies of both of these books is, even though there are very few women that are respected, it is explicit that women who hold qualities of sexual desire are looked down upon more than women who hold qualities of power. Both texts are harsh when it comes to depicting a female character. The best way to memorize is to stay focused, process the information at an appropriate level, make connections between the content and your life, create images ... The first two steps, organizing and encoding, I have completed as we moved through each session. Encoding early on is an important step because I was able to introduce each concept to my brain one by one as it was learned, rather than cramming it all in at once. That leaves me with two steps to complete before I can complete my test: Rehearsing and Retrieving. In order to rehearse, or practice, the information I have learned I first must create the right environment. Where I am studying makes a large impact on how well I will take in the information (Silver, 2008). I know that I work best studying off of paper (not a computer screen), being somewhere comfortable, and that having a familiar sound like a song I know by heart, or a TV show I ve seen 20 times helps me to block out noise without getting distracted. By knowing this information about myself I decided that outside in the sun with my ear buds in would be a perfect place to concentrate for me. I also learned through both my sources that keeping my brain healthy is important to take in information, so I ve been getting at least 8 hours of sleep, and waking ... • 34. U.s. Constitution And The Constitution The U.S. Constitution, as adopted by the Philadelphia Convention on September 17, 1787, sets out three distinct branches of national government and provides powers to each that serve as a check on the others. The branches include the executive branch: the president, the legislative branch: congress and the judicial branch: the Supreme Court. The Constitution is referred to as a living document because it is open to constant change. Additionally, the Constitution is open to constant interpretation by the Supreme Court. When the document was written over 200 years ago, abortion and automatic weapons were not issues, but the Constitution can be interpreted to protect or restrict rights on an assortment of issues. The first ten amendments to the Constitution, called the Bill of Rights, were ratified as a group by December 15, 1791(Bianco, 2013). Within the Bill of Rights only three amendments stand out in today world. Amendment One states that each citizen has the right to the freedom of religion, speech, and press and is allowed to assemble and petition the government (Bianco, 2013). While we all have the right of the freedom of religion we at the same token have taken religious freedoms a bit too far at times. We have removed it from schools, yet we allow religious rights to those that are terrorizing our country. The second amendment states that everyone has the right to have a gun (for lawful purposes) and the right to form as a militia (Bianco, 2013). While this amendment is good for law abiding citizens the argument remains for those that obtain guns illegally or possess weapons that should not be possessed by an ordinary person. Gun advocates debate that many of the issues with guns in America are not those of law abiding citizens but of those obtained illegally or in possession of those that should not have them. Amendment nine states that citizens hold rights that are not stated in the Constitution, and that those not stated have the right to be protected (Bianco, 2013). In other means the Bill of Rights state that the government can t violate every liberty not specifically outlined in the constitution examples could include Equal ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 35. Theory Of Perfectionism According to Dunn, Whelton, and Sharpe (2006), due to working as academics involves having to constantly receive criticism from colleagues and students as well as bearing the expectations to deliver work in the highest standards, university academics are therefore seen as the most appropriate group to represent the professional group for the study of perfectionism. The career as a university professor is indeed very challenging, whereby everyday work entails critical scrutiny from peers. In addition to that, the environment that these professors have to face each day are somewhat trying and unaccommodating (Gmelch, Wilke, Lovrich, 1986) which can further aggravate dysfunctional personality tendencies. All these criteria may one way or the other give ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... According to a study conducted by Dr. Sherry and colleagues, it was found that the existence of a high level of perfectionism among professors led to a lesser likelihood of them producing publications, gaining valuable citations and also publishing their work in high impact journals or in other words lower research productivity. This could impact their career in the long run due to the more they had perfectionistic tendencies within them, the less productive they were in research. Whereas there is general agreement in the literature on the definition of perfectionism, Dr. Sherry is of the opinion that perfectionists are individuals who either strive to execute a task perfectly or not executing it at all. They can never settle for less in anything that they do and may continuously reflect on their abilities which can lead to an exaggerated self checking of not committing any mistakes whatsoever (Charbonneau, ...
