Septic Tank Analysis
How To Care For Your Septic Tank So You Avoid Problems With Clogs And The Need For Repairs
If you take proper care of your septic tank, you can prevent unnecessary damage and the need for
repairs. You ll still need to pump the tank occasionally, but proper care reduces the risk of clogs
and damage to the drainfield. Fortunately, taking care of a septic tank is easy. Below are some
guidelines to keep in mind.
Rethink Using a Garbage Disposal
If you use a garbage disposal on a daily basis, you send an excessive amount of solid waste into the
septic tank. This waste has to be broken down by the bacteria in the tank to form the sludge layer
on the bottom. While this might not be necessarily harmful, it does make your tank fill up faster than

Also, think twice about using chemical drain cleaners. Rely on a plunger or snake when you have
clogs. Avoid throwing away prescription drugs by flushing them down the toilet. Antibiotics could
affect the bacteria in the tank.
Be Careful About What Goes In the Toilet Too
Also, your septic system will work more efficiently if you avoid putting anything down the toilet
except for toilet paper made to dissolve quickly. Some strong and soft brands of toilet paper, facial
tissues, and paper towels are too tough to break apart quickly in the septic tank. This leads to
clogging and premature filling of the tank.
Don t send wet wipes down the toilet, even if the label says they are flushable. They don t dissolve
very fast and they will just build up in the tank. Other items you don t want to flush include cigarette
butts, cotton swabs, condoms, dental floss, and kitty litter.
The above guidelines will help keep your septic system in good shape, but the most important
thing you can do for your septic tank is to have it inspected and cleaned out regularly. Don t let
sewage back up into your house or leak into the drainfield through neglect or you may face
expensive repairs. Call the experts at Mountain Valley Pumping when you need your septic tank
inspected, repaired, or

Dominant Theory Of Public Administration Essay
In the following paragraphs, I will explain the dominant theory in public administration practice and
elaborate on the major theoretical assumptions of the Old Public Administration. As stated in the
question, the world has transformed through globalization, information technology, and devolution
of authority since the latter part of the last century. The dominant theory in public administrationhas
been replaced from the traditional rule based, authority driven processes of the Old Public
Administration with market based, competition driven tactics in the New Public Management,
beginning in the 1980s (Kettl, 2000, p. 3). This was an effort to privatize governmentand streamline
public administration to maximize efficiency and productivity. Heavily relying on market
mechanisms to guide public programs, public administrators in the New Public Management are
encouraged to steer, not row, meaning they should not bear the burden of delivering services, but
instead define programs that others will carry out, through contracting or other means (Denhardt
Denhardt, 2011, p. 13). Core values of the New Public Management include using private sector
and business approaches to the public sector, squeezing as many services as possible from smaller
revenues, market style incentives, providing customers more choices, and focusing on outputs and
outcomes instead of mainly processes.
The New Public Management in the United States was introduced and popularized by David
Osborne and Ted

Brokeback Mountain and the Western Genre Essay
The film genre of the Western has long since proven to be more about the conflict and showdowns
that occur in the storyline. Usually the western genre incorporates traditional western motifs and
icons and adheres to those common plot structures of the genre, but Brokeback Mountain is
different from what is to be normally expected because it does not seem like a traditional and
conventional Westernfilm at all. Brokeback Mountainhas several different twists to it, like the more
modern take on it traditionally, characters in Western films were riding horses, but because
Brokeback Mountain is a more modern movie, the two characters Jack and Ennis are seen traveling
in cars and trucks most of the time. This alteration is very... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Brokeback Mountain, being the more homosexual romance oriented Western that it is, subverts a
large number of the typical traditional elements of the Western film genreas a whole, this one
especially, by having another male be in the position of the love interest of the hero. Although
this subversion in particular is very problematic for Jack, as it puts him in the shoes of being
associated with all things relating to femininity in the relationship. For example, Jack is the one
who makes the first move when seducing Ennis, using his own allure and sexuality into
tempting Ennis when he calls him into the tent, leading Ennis down somewhat of a risky path.
Ennis, however, is portrayed as somewhat of a saint, his being repressed and restrained by
social standards, saying to Jack, You may be a sinner but I ain t yet had the opportunity . Another
interesting typical thing in the Western genre that was altered was that instead of Indians being
the villain, the enemy is that of a ignorant and oppressive society a society that would kill Ennis
and Jack for being different , Ennis says to Jack, this thing takes hold of us at the wrong place,
wrong time and we re dead, which shows how much they both worry about it but the two cowboys
still have to find some way to pull through and struggle to find their true selves in this society, but it
is also that fear which causes the devastating events

Narrative Voices In Romeo And Juliet
Narrative voices are used to express romantic emotions towards female characters, and they first
express their emotions of attraction to that woman by use of meaningful words. Michelle is a
song written by John Lennon and performed by Paul McCartney. The song is about man that is
trying to express his affections to Michelle, who does not understand the same language.
Therefore, he must put the words he wants to express in a way she could comprehend. The
Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet, is a play that was written by William Shakespeare. This tragedy is
about two young lovers that are separated by a barrier that their families are sworn enemies. The
character Romeo uses his words to express his love towards Juliet, and many events in the

Informative Essay On Cats
Cats can be intelligent, and wonderful pets. Sometimes its unbelievable what they do in their
everyday life. There are so many breeds, that I plan to learn more about. Cats can control their
feelings, and emotions. They are good at hunting, because they are strong and agile. There are
many cat breeds, but I m only gonna talk about a few of my favorites such as, American curl,
Cornish rex, and the Ocicat. I chose these because I thought they were very unique, and different,
like the American curl most were made from a mutation in the cats D.N.A, which caused the cats

The sole meaning of life is to serve humanity said by a Russian author Leo Tolstoy whose works
were influenced by exploration, military experience and family tragedy. Leo s works are largely
influenced by his vast exploration of the world, specifically of Europe and Russia where he met
various authors and political figures who greatly inspired him. Leo s parents died when he was 4
so he had to be raised by his grandparents who moved all over Russia with Tolstoy. Not just at a
young age, but throughout his entire life Tolstoy traveled Europe and met authors like Victor Hugo
and political figures such as French anarchist Pierre Joseph Proudhon who complemented and gave
advice to Tolstoy. Tolstoy even used characters from a battle scene in

distraction. When we are distracted, some of us may know while others won t know their being
distracted. Multitasking may be useful in some cases but is proven to be inefficient. This is
because our minds need to work on a specific task and if their not doing a specific task and is
doing multiple things at once then we will work much slower than we expect. From the activity,
we did in class, my partner and I had to do basic math with the following conditions: no

Fort Wayne Parks and Recreation was founded in 1863 when Mr. Henry Williams purchased Old
Fort Park and donated it to the city of Fort Wayne. Since then, Fort Wayne Parks and Recreation
has continued to grow acquiring 85 more parks which include Reservoir Park in 1880, Foster
Park golf course in 1928, Fort Wayne s Children s Zoo in 1962, the Botanical Conservatory in
1979 and more recently Robert E. Meyer s Park in 2008. This organization does much more for
the community than just taking care of the city s parks. Fort Wayne Parks and Recreation also

Ash tree treatments have been in place to help save the Ash trees of Fort Wayne. This past
summer 647 Ash trees in Fort Wayne were treated to prevent the Ash Borer from killing them.
Because this treatment is a biannual treatment, only half of the population of Ash trees was treated
the summer of 2013. The other half of the population was treated the previous summer and will be
treated again in the summer of 2014. (City of Fort Wayne Parks and Recreation, 2013) Davey
Resource group was the lowest bidder and took on the project of treating the Ash trees. Davey
Resource Group provides a full range of natural resource and utility consulting services to the

The question arose about the cost benefits of treating the tree versus cutting them down. It cost
approximately $43.00 to treat one tree versus the $400.00 to cut the tree down, grind the stump
away, and plant a new tree in its place. Even though many Ash trees have been saved by this
treatment, it was too late for some. So far 10,500 Ash trees have been cut down in the city of Fort
Wayne because they were attacked by the Ash Borer. This year another 2,447 will be cut down
also. Mudrack Tree Experts have

Problems With The Health Insurance
In America we have many problems that society may view as harmful or problems that need a
remedy to fix, there problems are called a social problem. Social problems can range from
school problems to drug problems. Each person in America can have their own opinion of what a
social problem is to them. Just like with time, social problems will change, some will come and
some will go. So, for right now in time one of the biggest social problems I can see in America is
the healthcare. There are many problems with the health insurancein America. According to our
books in America some of the biggest problems are: Medicare, Medicaid, Military Healthcare,
Workers Compensation, Complemtary, and Alternative Medicine. The book states that there are a
few strategies for action people can take to make these problems go away, such as: Selective
primary healthcare, Comprehensive primary healthcare, fighting obesity, work wellness programs,
public education, and the Affordable Care Act. (Linda A. Mooney, 2015) In this paper I am going
to discuss the biggest problems in America that involve healthcare insurance, how to fix these
problems, and the possible outcomes. As was previously stated, there are many social problems in
healthcare, but the biggest problems are: Medicare, Medicaid, Military Healthcare, Workers
Compensation, Complentary, and Alternative Medicine. Now I will break each one of these down

Designing an Orientation and Training Program Essay
Designing an Orientation and Training Program By designing and implementing an orientation and
training program, a company can expect to receive benefits. These benefits may include improved
communications, knowledgeable employees, increased productivity, and improved employee
satisfaction levels. This training could also have impact on employee retention, thus lowering
turnover rates, which can cause a company valuable time and money. In designing these types of
programs, a company should assess the needs of itself and employees. A training supervisor should

then proceed to explain the organization s operations and levels of authority, and how they relate

supervisor explains the job functions and responsibilities and these topics will be covered during
later training. The next topic will cover the rules, regulations, policies, and procedures of the
organization. General office practice and business etiquette is also defined during this time, along
with city, state, and any federal laws in which applies to an employee s job function (Rue Byars,
2004). Conditions of employment, which include punctuality, attendance, conduct, hours of work,
overtime, and terminate should be covered along with what is expected of the new employee (Rue
Byars, 2004). These expectations include attitude, reliability, initiative, emotional maturity, and
person appearance (Rue Byars, 2004). It is imperative that the training supervisor stops after each
section which is covered and ask if any of the employees have questions related to a section. This
is to ensure that the employees understand the material put before them. The supervisor will move
on to cover pay procedures and personnel policies. At this time it would be beneficial to discuss

Research Paper On How Coco Chaneel Changed Fashion
Have you ever taken a step back and looked at how fashion has revolutionised over the years?
Well, this article is taking a step back in time all the way to the early 1900 s to look at the way
that Coco Chanel changed fashion. Coco Chanel was all about empowering women through her
designs by throwing stereotypes of how women should dress out of the window. She introduced
many trends that we still see within todays society with many of her original products still on sale
even after her death in 1971.
One of her original designs in the early 1920 s was the little black dress. The dress was an update
for the modern women, known for both its silhouette and dark tone. Since the Victorian times, the
dark tone was commonly associated with mourning. However this was soon changed after, with
Coco being the one of the causes that made black a colour which could be worn everyday, for
Coco black was simple elegance. One of her competitors, Paul Poiret reportedly scoffed at Chanel
in the street, asking her, What are you in mourning for, Mademoiselle? The quick witted designer
responded, For you, dear Monsieur. TouchГ©!
One of the ways that she broke the female stereotype was breaking the social rule that trousers
were only for men. When WWI broke out in 1914, many women who worked in manual roles in
harder conditions began to wear trousers to the workplace for safety and comfort. Coco Chanel also
loved wearing trousers herself, often borrowing her boyfriend s suits, she then began

Although he started working on IVF in the 1950s it took him about 30 years to make it
successful, and about 60 years until he won the Nobel Prize. Edwards is a professor at the
University of Cambridge England, he also founded Bourn Hall, the first IVF center. Today, vitro
fertilization is responsible for over 4 million births worldwide. Edwards discovered that an

medication to control the timing of the eggs release. They monitor the ovaries using ultrasound
to make sure the multiple eggs can be collected and that they are developing the eggs properly
and that his is called ovulation induction. To retrieve the eggs a minor operation is required,
sedation and anesthesia is used to prevent discomfort. A hollow needle is inserted through the
pelvic cavity into the ovary to collect the eggs. Now the sperm is needed for completion of the
procedure, this is collected by ejaculation. The process of insemination now begins; a single
sperm is injected into the egg for fertilization. The egg is monitored to make sure cell division is
achieved. It is now considered an embryo after it is fertilized. Three days after the egg is retrieved
from the ovary, and fertilization is achieved then it is inserted into the women s uterus. The two to

Football Reflection
In this story, I am going to share an experience with you about a lesson that I learned last year
during the football season. It will include some graphic details, a deeper look into my thoughts and
feelings, and much more. This is the story that helped change my whole mindset of football. This is
what Friday night lights is all about.
During the last football season, I suffered an injury that I thought was going to affect me in such a
negative way. But it turns out, even though it was one of the most painful things I ve experienced,
it ended up being one of the best things to happen to me. My whole mindset on the game of
football changed for the better, and it made me into the great player I am today.
It was homecoming night against the powerhouse Taylorville, it was cold, rainy, and the field
turned into a swamp of mud, sweat, and blood. It was time for the game to start. Taylorville came
out on offense and on the very first play of the game, Parker Stokes ran a 63 yard touchdown. It was
one of the many spirit breakers of the night. It was time for us to return the favor, we came out
on offense on the 20 yard line. We had 80 yards to go, and it felt more like 1,000. With all the
rain we couldn t pass the ball, so we handed the ball off to our all star running back Terrence Hill,
we drove the ball 56 yards on 6 plays. We were doing great until all of a sudden nothing went right
for us. We got stuffed at the line of scrimmage on the next two plays and then, the

Education Support For Disabled Students
As a future educator, it is essential to note the critical issue that has been floundering about
throughout the school system, the insufficient educational support for disabled students. This
critical issue is not only present in the United Stated, but it has also moved beyond our boundaries.
Whether a schoolsystem simply does not provide the necessary services a student requires, there is
a lack of movement toward a least restrictive environment, or a school simple does not feel the need
to implement necessary changes that would create a more inviting placed for education, the school
system (in my opinion) is providing insufficient educational support for the disabled students.

If a teacher of a special education classroom is working with 15 different students who have
different learning styles and needs, that makes the teacher s position very difficult, especially if
they did not receive the needed training in order to do so (Petersen, 2016). It is essential to serve
every single one of our students (whether they have a disability or not), however if a educational
system is not properly training their teachers, who are then not providing the needed adjustments
for the lesson, then the entire school system is providing insufficient educational support for their
disabled students, and for every student for that matter. The fact that insufficient training is
occurring is only the surface of the issue, school system are also lacking in the movement towards
a least restrictive environment. Through the implementation of IDEA, schools need to work with
their student in order for them to be placed in an environment that is best for them as well as close
to a general classroom as possible. Unfortunately, Kurth, Morningstar, and Kozleski (2014) has
reveled that school systems are not tracking data efficiently, to the point that it is making it very
difficult to determine exactly where a student needs to be placed. Additionally, there seems to be a
misunderstanding on how exactly schools need to collect data on their special education students,
which then provides the given state incorrect data to work with in order to make

Socrates Ideal Of A City
Socrates explains how democracy is ruled by someone appointed by the citizens, and is a place
where everyone can purse the life they want to live. Socrates explains how old desires will be
replaced with new ones, which in turn will result in people giving into their unnecessary desires.
This will in turn create a city where people indulge in their appetites, seeking a life of joy and bliss,

state is not a good one for the city because he shows how giving into appetites creates a world of
indulgence and greed, and disregards the need for the ruler to bring about law and order.
The final and worst state for a city to be in is that of tyranny, run by the tyrants. Tyranny starts when
people start giving into to their deepest and darkest desires, feeding their evil natured appetites.

This furthers the decaying process because it begins to pit the wealthy and the poor against each

city. This creates a false idea of freedom, and creates a city where people believe they are free to
do as they please. This furthers the decay because people begin giving into their unnecessary

city into full destruction. The city hits full destruction when people begin giving into their darkest

Government Control Throughout Literary Works
Governmental control surrounds society daily and has been around for centuries. Governments
came around so that they could control others. It recurs throughout The Tragedy of Romeo and
Juliet by William Shakespeare, as well as in The Count of Monte Cristo by Alexandre Dumas.
Even in modern day, government control remains a significant part of life. For example, the
SOPA bill arose in Congress when the need for anti piracy protection became urgent or the USA
admitting the Yemeni dictator into one of its medical centers. It occurs from the 1500s in The
Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet to the 1800s in The Count of Monte Cristo and even modern day.
Each government designs itself in a way so that it functions with a united purpose to keep the human

Napoleon puts himself into power after he successfully overthrows the king of France. The French
monarchy weakens day by day and thus, the Napoleon Empire quickly establishes itself in the
monarchy s place. Governmental control appears strongly when it just takes Villefort s signature to
throw an innocent person into jail. Dantes realizes this when he thinks: Villefort s change in
demeanour during the examination, the burning of the letter, the exacted oath, the magistrate s
almost supplicating voice which seemed to implore rather than to threaten, all passed through his
mind (Dumas 61). Once Dantes learns of Villefort s treachery, his personality completely turns
around. An innocent man should not be sent to jail because someone else chooses to cover his or
her tracks and fix his or her own problems. Governmental control has become corrupted and no
longer functional. The 1800s style governments opened themselves to conflict; however,
corruption prevailed. Modern day differs greatly compared to previous centuries but the need for
control has continued to live on. Modern day has vastly improved its government over the
previous centuries. However, society still faces issues due to governmental control. A bill called
SOPA tried to limit creativity on the Internet, but classed as an anti piracy bill. The USA formerly
debated on whether to admit a Yemeni dictator, one who has killed thousands of the Yemeni people,
into one of its medical centers.

Essay about Vaclav HavelВґs Fight Against the Communist Regime
Soon after World War II the Soviet Union had created a red iron curtain around Eastern Europe,
communist regimes could be seen throughout with countries like Czechoslovakia, Bulgaria and
Romania. These regimes where severely oppressive and violated basic human rights, hence a
growing opposition was beginning to form. From the mid 1970 s Vaclav Havel, a former
playwright would become the most prominent Czechoslovakian dissident and campaigner against
the abuses of the Communist Regime by actively defending the rock group Plastic People of the

Our system, on the other hand, has been developing in the Soviet Union for over sixty years, and
for approximately thirty years in Eastern Europe... In terms of the physical aspects of power, this
has led to the creation of such intricate and well developed mechanism for the direct and indirect
manipulation of the entire population that, as a physical power base, it represents something
radically new. That something new was what Havel would call the post totalitarian system. One
of Havel s major criticisms of the communist regime was how it falsified everything and while
promising to serve the people, ruthlessly made the people serve it. The post totalitarian system
touches people at every step, but it does so with its ideological gloves on. This is why life in the
system is so thoroughly permeated with hypocrisy and lies: government by bureaucracy is called
popular government; the working class is enslaved in the name of the working class; the
complete degradation of the individual is presented as his ultimate liberation; depriving people of
information is called making it available; the use of power to manipulate is called the public
control of power, and the arbitrary abuse of power is called observing the legal code, the repression
of culture is called its development; etc.. Due to this the citizens must behave, as they believe
everything the government tells them.

Representation In Heart Of Darkness Essay
The Others Representation in Conrad s Heart of Darkness
Joseph Conrad s Heart of Darkness is one of the most known novels in English literature. The
story begins when Marlow, who works for a Belgian company, went on a journey to the heart of
Africa as a steamship captain. Through his journey, he heard the name of Kurtz for the first time.
Then the name is repeated many times, which made Marlow, who is our narrator in addition to
another unknown narrator, interested to know about Kurtz. Kurtz works for the company as an
ivory trader in the Congo which was at that time one of Belgium s colonies. According to Marlow
Kurtz was the ideal English man, or as what he called him a remarkable man , who holds the
banner of civilization. Marlow s dream ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Or does it belong to the company? I think it belongs to the Congo and to the Congolese. Neither
Kurtz nor the company has the right to claim that the ivory belongs to him.
Finally, I believe that Conrad s Heart of Darkness embodies racism to Africa and for women, in
which both are ignorant, silenced and nameless. Conrad s sympathy with Africans under the
colonization of Belgium, does not give him the right to represent them and to celebrate English
Imperialism. Albeit that people of Africa have different skin color or different shape from the
European, they are still human beings and no one has the right to dehumanize them.
Chinua Achebe in his essay An Image of Africa asks not to consider Conrad s Heart of Darkness as
one of the best English novels, because the Africans suffer for a very long time by the
dehumanization and by the European s representation of them. Chinua Achebe states that:
I am talking about a book which parades in the most vulgar fashion prejudices and insults from
which a section of mankind has suffered untold agonies and atrocities in the past and continues to
do so in many ways and many places today. I am talking about a story in which the very humanity
of black people is called in question.

Essay on Stefan Sagmeister, an Influential Designer
Libby Castellani Holly Vaughn GRA 1109C 17 October 2012 Stefan Sagmeister: An Influential
Designer In today s art world there seems to be a large gap that separates fine art from
commercial art. Often there is a disconnected coldness associated with those who work in
communications art and produce art for clients. As if all emotion and feeling is stripped from
commercial artwork merely because it was created with the intention of pleasing a client. Stefan
Sagmeister bridges the gap in the art industry by redefining commercial design as a personal,
emotional, and deep art. While Sagmeister s work encompasses a vast spectrum of mediums such

all the way down to where his pubic hair begins. The audacity of his brazen body is accompanied
by harsh lettering that has literally been carved into his skin by his intern with a razorblade
(Heller amp; Vienne, 10). While the broad reception to this poster can be attributed to its shock
value, Sagmeister s self mutilation was a commentary on the absurdity of inking the body with
tattoos (Heller amp; Vienne, 10). The scratches in his body display the details of the lecture as
well as Sagmeister s words pertaining to his philosophy on design, Style=Fart. This philosophy,
which he has now put to rest, translates as his conscious effort to not get wrapped up in fashion
statements or trends; design that is defined by a temporary style is meaningless (Designboom).
Sagmeister explains why he relinquished the philosophy in an interview with Designboom: I
discovered that this is simply not true.
Through experience I found that if you have content that

The Free Movement Of Goods
It is obvious that the free movement of goods is fundamental to the achievement of the
European Union(EU) s aims and the Court of Justice of the EU (ECJ). It is an economic ideals
to create a single trading block in which all factors of goods to flow freely. As it is one of the
success stories in the EU s project where most major restriction on the free movement of goods have

However, the court usually finds that labelling provides the consumer with sufficient
information and protection, and is a lesser hindrance to trade. The court held in Keck that these
are generally not restrictions on imports, as long as they do not have a greater effect on imports
than on domestic products. But Keck is criticised by many because even if selling arrangements
do not have an unequal effect, they may still have the effect of hindering trade, by making
marketing more difficult.Article 34 only applies insofar as measures affect imports. If states
wish to burden domestic producers with heavy regulation this is a matter of purely national law.
However in exceptional situations stricter regulation of domestic production may actually give it
a reputational advantage and so be a hindrance to imports. These measures of equivalent effect
(MEQRs) result in imports being reduced just as if there was in fact an explicit limit. First the
MEQR produces its import reducing effects by a more or less indirect path. That can make
causation difficult to establish. ECJ has dealt with this by drawing broad brush distinctions of
convenience . Second problem is to decide whether article 34 is about combating rules with a
protectionist effect, or about deregulating economic activity. These are measures which cannot be
easily captured by the Cassis definition of a product rule or the Keck definition of a selling

Music Has Been Around Since The Creation Of Humans
Music has been around since the creation of humans. It is a sound that to us humans is appealing
and it s something that we listen to when we are sad, happy, excited, mad, and etc. There are many
types of music, but when i look at the type of music that represents reality the most it is hip hop
and rap. Hip hop has been around since the 80s but it has become increasingly popular throughout
all of our community. Rap artists started out rappingabout where they were from and the life they
lived, and eventually it turned into rappers speaking about women, their riches and other social
things.
Hip hop however for some artists it was a way to express themselves and show us what reality
actually was for them. They spoke about things such as police brutality, black rights, natural
catastrophes, and many other things that we weren t exposed to, or didn t know about. This is
significant because music is heard by everyone, and if that person can make a song that sounds
appealing to people, that person could send a message to other people about things happening far
away from them. I imagine that rappers started talking about their struggles and it became
something that millions of people heard. I imagine that rap started out as story telling and evolved
to become music with people speaking about their feelings and much more.
Music has become heavily commercialized, and not just hip hop but in other genres as well.

The Theory And Its Impact On The Field
Taking history into consideration, there have been many phases that have resulted in a negative
turn in the field. I believe that the major downsides to our history have been primarily involved
with the strict empiricism point of view and its similar counterparts. Beginning with Aristotle
and his concept of Tabula Rasa, it is difficult to prove that this is true. The justification for this
theory is minimal as we are far more complex to have a blank mind. Our mind is not blank and
we have clear emotions that are present throughout the day. We justify our experiences and learn
from them for the future. Our mind is capable of being creative and finding our potential in other
aspects that are difficult to explain and attribute their origin from. If we keep believing this or
any form of this theory, we would not be capable of seeking new aspects of the field. Initially, the
movement towards a having a psychological science did not have much progression. This lack of
movement was primarily seen during the Dark Ages. During this era, there was no longer
contributions to move science forward. There was a clear hierarchy in which the church resided
above all, which hindered the movement towards achieving innovative scientific ideas.
Scholasticism was practiced and everyone followed what was allowed by religion. This did not
work for the sciences as there were no new perspectives to advance the field. Considering that it

Modern Poetry, Archibald Macleish s Ars Poetica, and Marianne Moore s Poetry. Each of these
authors felt they had discovered superlative methods to write the most powerful poetry. However,
the details and methods which each author used varied from one another. Born in 1885, Ezra pound

His poetry is experimental and was influenced by the works of numerous modernist poets. As he
aged, his poems developed to be more traditional. Many of his works in the 1930 s analyzed
social and political issues that plagued the world during this period. Ars Poetica challenges how
one interprets their own reality, and his own guidelines to powerful poetry. He uses strong, apt
images to convey his points. MacLeish believes a poem should be worldess As the flight of
birds (MacLeish 789). This poem is much more abstract than the other two, but shares the same
theme of trying to connect to the reader and illicit strong feelings. MacLeish believes that A
poem should not mean But be (MacLeish 790). A poem should speak for itself and use strong
images for the reader to ponder. This leaves the poem more open to interpretation and discussion.
Marianne Moore was born in Missouri in 1887. She was a modernist poet; however, the subjects
which she chose to write about differed from the average modernist. Most modernist poetry during
this time was centered around the state of modern civilization. Moore chose to center her poetry
around animals, nature, and poetry itself. Her poem Poetry starts off somewhat perplexing when
she states I, too, dislike it: there are things that are important beyond all this fiddle (Moore 791).

sequential gearboxes Essay
Running Head: SEQUENTIAL GEARBOXES
Abstract
This paper will discuss the technology of sequential gearboxes. Relatively new technology, the
sequential gearbox has been applied mostly in ATV s, motorcycles, and the automobile racing
industry. Recently this technology has begun to reach passenger cars. There are three main points of
discussion; the workings of a manual transmission, how a sequential gearbox works and the
advantages of them, and the applications of it today. The sequential gearbox is extremely
revolutionary and is only used in high end passenger cars, but maybe one day it will be a luxury
the majority of the population will be able to experience.

How Sequential Gearboxes Work
In a regular manual transmission there are three forks controlled by three rods that are engaged
by the shift lever by the driver. The normal H pattern that the driver sees on top of the shifter
enables him or her to move the shift lever between the control rods for the three forks and thus
moving the rods back and forth. When all of these aspects are combined a successful shift is
accomplished.
Transmissions on ATV s or motorcyclesusing sequential gearboxes have a set of gear selection
forks that move collars, which engage the gears just like on regular manual transmissions. The
gearshift lever is moved up and down by the foot and the transmission is moved from gear to
gear. When the gearshift lever is moved by the foot, a ratcheting drum is rotated. This ratcheting
drum has grooves cut into the side of it. The grooves on the ratcheting drum will direct the
control rods when the drum is away from the transmission s gears. Moving the gear selector fork
is the most common use of the grooves. With this in mind, whenever the lever is moved up or
down, the drum is rotated one increment. The rotation of the drum allows for movement of the
rods or forks as set by the grooves in the drum and the gears are then changed (Brain, n.d.). The
gear shifting sequence can only be done in order; this means that no gears can be

The Description Theory of Meaning Essay
The description theory of meaning was proposed independently by Bertrand Russell and Gottlob
Frege as a response to some of the fallacies of the reference theory. Description theorists propose
that instead of being a simple word world relationship , meaning is derived from descriptions
associated with certain objects and stored in our mind (or senses in Frege s case). Frege and
Russell s accounts of the theory differ subtly in how they view descriptions. Several objections have
been made against the theory, but only the most important objections will be raised. These include
Strawson s objection to the attributive use. Also, the problems of ignorance and error raised by
Kripke tarnish the description theory s attractiveness. The... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

This allows him to extend the Description Theory to almost every meaning. The extension of the
theory to names seems natural as when one refers to someone, they often add a description. For
example, The fat slob of a father on the Simpsons explains just who Homer Simpson is. This
analysis helps the Description theorist to overcome some of the problems which plagued the
Reference Theorist. This theory is an improvement on the reference theory, as it is much better at
explaining some of the features of language, such as why we explain proper names with
descriptions if asked.
Comparing Frege and Russell s Theories
While having essentially a similar message, there are some key differences between the two
original Description theorist s hypotheses. Both the theories can pick out a specific referent
indirectly with something like a description. However, while the emphasis is the same, Russell s
analysis appealed to the description as being something within a competent user s mind, whereas
Frege saw these descriptions as senses. He described these as being platonic entities, thus
objective, whereas the referents they picked out as being subjective. These abstract objects are
used to determine how reference can be made in the concrete world. Russell argues that there are
not two levels of semantic significance in his theory, so that when his theory is logically
formulated, it has a general nature ,

Augustine of Hippo (354 430) was a North African man who took an extremely tumultuous path

Augustine s had lofty worldly goals and a weak sense of conscience. His intense drive to be
successful would later create a major problem for him when trying to fully give his life to God. At
an early age, Augustine began thinking his mother s strong sense of Christianitywas too uneducated

Because of his dealings with Faustus, Augustine learns an important lesson that content is more
important than delivery when looking for spiritual truth. During Augustine s time as a Manichaean,
he converses with Faustus, a North African sage who is known to be extremely persuasive in
Manichaean beliefs. This takes place when Augustine is in Carthage at age twenty nine. Augustine
truly admires his eloquence in speaking, and he was delighted by the force and feeling he brought
to his discourse (Confessions V.vi.11). He is also impressed by Faustus modesty because of the fact
that Faustus will readily admit his lack of knowledge in certain subjects and won t proceed in an
argument or explanation unless he has sufficient knowledge. However, Augustine realizes that this
lack of training in liberal arts that Faustus exhibits leads to his inability to sufficiently answer the
questions that Augustine has about certain Manichaean beliefs (V.vii.12). Augustine is one of the
few people that is able to see through Faustus articulate and educated speech and realize that the

Pros And Cons Of Lowering The Driving Age

Lev Vygotsky And The Zone Of Proximal Development
Lev Vygotsky and the Zone of Proximal Development
Under normal circumstances, a child will physically develop without outside assistance. While there
can be variations by way of culture, class, and ability, it is difficult to contest that human nature is
the driving force behind the bodily changes that take place from birth until adulthood. In contrast,
when it comes to determining the ways in which a child thinks and learns, there are numerous
theories on what primarily influences cognitive growth and development. One theorist that offered
an innovative look into this latter process was Russian born psychologist, Lev Vygotsky. Vygotsky
theorized that children learn by doing, and their process of development is primarily influenced by
the people and the systems that comprise their environment. What made him stand out from other
theorists of the time is that instead of centering his ideas in behavior, Vygotsky instead focused on
the learning process and the potential for a child to learn. He showed the value pairing learning
with a practical application, and that in doing so, it could make for more effective learning on the
part of the child. The result of such a theory was that provided families and educators an insight on
how they might be able to influence the development experience for a child.
Lev Vygotsky was born and raised in Communist Russia. When he first made his mark in the world
of child development, it was not as an educator, but rather a psychologist. Due the

Elephant Research Paper
Elephants are large mammals of the family Elephantidae and the order Proboscidea. Three species
are currently recognized. These three species are the African bush elephant, the African forest
elephant, and the Asian elephant. All elephants have the same distinctive features which are long
trunks, sharp tusks, large ear flaps, and pillar like legs, but most people don t notice the differences
between them. Although the Asian and African elephantsare very similar, they have very distinctive
differences.
There are several distinguishable differences between these two species. African elephants are the
largest land mammals on Earth, weighing up to eight tons. They are distinguished by their massive
body, large ears, and long trunk with many uses

The Creation Of Telomerase
The cell is busier than the streets of New York, and when it splits, it must have everything go
perfectly. If the chromosomes were to break down, the DNA it is holding could be damaged.
That could be catastrophic for the cell. This is where telomere comes in. Telomere is a small area
of nucleotides that repeat at the end of every chromosome to keep the chromosome from falling
apart and breaking down. But, the telomere doesn t just appear out of nowhere. It is created just
like everything else, with DNA. Nobel Prize winner cellbiologist Carol W. Greider discovered the
enzyme telomerase. Telomerase is what creates the DNA found in telomere.
In 1961, the nobel prize winner Carol W. Greider was born in San Diego, California. Her father,

The Legitimacy Of Montessori Schools
Many questions have been raised regarding the legitimacy of Montessori schools and the capability
of students to effectively learn the same amount of information as those who attend regular schools.
Then again, there are also people that swear by the unconventional, self directed ways of a
Montessori school. These types of schools were founded by Maria Montessori with the sole
purpose of providing an innovative learning experience for young students instead of the traditional
learning style that is highly regarded by most of the US population. A Montessori classroom setting
includes integrated age groups, lengthened periods of time dedicated for discovery, and the absence
of grades or tests.
Montessori schools are appealing to parents that

Analysis Of A House Divided
A filmed named A House Divided by John Kent Harrison was based on a true story where
Amanda America Dickson, daughter of David Dickson (a white slave owner) and Julia (a black
slave owner), was born a fair white skin. Dickson and her mother raised her without knowing her
true mother. Amanda grown but Dickson died so he left all his estate to her daughter Amanda.
However, Dickson s brother, Henry, knew Amanda s true identity and he contest David Dickson
last will. Mr. Dickson set an attorney, Charles Dubose, to represent Amanda in the court; to fight
for her inheritance from her father. Even though later in the story Mr. Dubose realizes the true
identity of Amanda, he still continues to help her win her case. In the end, the council decided
that Amanda will be keeping the estate that her late father gave to her. One of my reaction to the
movie was about the role of Sam Waterson as David Dickson where even though he was given
an unlikable role as a slave owner, he was seen as a sympathetic character even after he died.
Slave owners Georgia are known to be cruel, brutal and they see their slaves as a property. They
would treat their slaves inhumanely; however, David Dickson was seen as a loving father, even
though he knows that her daughter is a mixed race, he listens to Julia (a black slave, mother of
Amanda) to give rewards to slaves whoever works hard and eventually reward them with a small
plot of land for them to grow crops for their own family and entrust her. After

The Evolution of Minorities in Film Essay
The Evolution of Minorities in Film
Back in the 1800 s, when calculating the population, African Americans were counted as 3/5 of a
person (Antonia, p2). One would think that in the past two hundred years people s beliefs would
have changed a little bit, but the general white public are stuck into believing the common
stereotypes commonly portrayed in movies. In films and television shows blacks are almost always
portrayed as murderers, robbers, rapists, pretty much anything negative, like American History X,
for example. Two black men are shown breaking into a white man s car. People see this, and in turn
believe that all black men will try and steal their car; as stupid as it may seem, it is true, and as a
result, film ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
White people might not take it very well and possibly get the impression that minorities will
never amount to anything, nor be a large portion of the population. In the late 1970 s, the hit
movie Roots took the country by storm serving as an icebreaker for minorities getting into the
movie industry. It showed the world that a movie consisting of all black actors could still be a
very popular movie. Even though it revolved around the concept of slavery, once Roots came
out, minorities started to show up more and more in films. In the years to come, this trend
would become more and more of a standard in America s mainstream culture. In the late 1980 s
a film entitled Lethal Weapon came out. In this movie, a black man is shown having the family
and being the successful one, while Mel Gibson, the white man, plays the role of the suicidal
lunatic after the death of his new wife. This movie was one of the first few movies where this
kind of thing was going on. Just for laughs, the two would make fun of each other and make
somewhat racist assumptions about each other. But in the end of the movie they end up
becoming best friends. Lethal Weapon served as a good movie to unlock the door to the minority
/white costar door with due to the way in which it does it in a fun way where the viewer doesn t
even realize that the two were of a different race.

Whistleblowing Case
The Whistleblowing Case Studies There are various cases about whistleblowing, one of them is
the case of Motorola CFO, Paul Liska.1 He has been fired after giving a presentation. In the
presentation, Liska pointed out to Motorola directors that the cell phone unit, Mobile Devices,
missed its sales projection for the preceding three months. Liska intended to attack Sanjay Jha,
the head of Motorola s cell phone division, by doing the presentation at the board meeting. The
whistleblowing occurred because Liska and Jha did not get along well, and Liska tried to save the
situation with an attack on Jha. Liska objected to Jha s hiring, his compensation package and the co

In my opinion, this is not just a personality clash and more of different views towards the
development of the company in the future. He could just keep quiet but his professionalism
made him to do the other way round. Circumstances of When Whistleblowing Is Ethically
Justifiable When we talk about whistleblowing and loyalty to a firm, we need to ask a number of
questions: Do engineers have a duty of loyalty to their organizations? If so, engineers have a
duty to act to the best interest of the firm, then is whistleblowing ever ethically justifiable?
Always, people treat loyalty as a virtue. We were taught from young to be loyal to our friends,
family and our country. However, in the case of loyalty to a firm, it could be a little different.
Loyalty to a corporation is more on dedication and devotion to the development of the firm.
Based on that, we can say that if the whistle blowing is for the good cause to the company s
future, we may not say it is ethically wrong or the person is not loyal. For example, if your boss
ask you to ignore some flaws or wrongdoings in a company project, you know the severe
consequences for not solving those problems, then it is your duty to whistle blowing, because you
are responsible to the company s future and the society, you are loyal to the objective of the
company not to a wrongdoing person. Another thing about ethically justifiable whistle blowing is
safety. We need to admit that safety is an incontrovertible

Black Culture And Black Consciousness Summary
Black Culture and Black Consciousness By Lawrence W. Levine Culture is such a broad and
complex term that can be defined in numerous ways. It is said that in part is the integrated pattern
of human knowledge, communication, belief, art, literature, and music one acquires upon learning
and transmitting characteristics from previous generations. Culture is symbolic communication,
and its symbols are learned and carefully perpetuated in a society through its institutions. In Black
Culture and Black Consciousness by Lawrence W. Levine, he carefully attempts to uncover Afro
American culture during the antebellum and postbellum periods. More often than none, historians
like to emphasize the things that get lost in the culture of Afro Americans when they are taken
from Africa and forced to live as enslaved people in North America. However, in Levine s book, we
discover that he carefully... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

them felt their owners would be denied salvation (34). Levine claimed that the slaves uses their
beliefs and religion as a means of escape and opposition because it gave them a serious alternative to
the societal system created by southern slaveholders (54.) The spirituals are a testament not only to
the perpetuation of significant elements of an older world view among the slaves but also the
continuation of a strong sense of community. Just as the process by which the spiritual were created
allowed for simultaneous individual and communal creativity, so their very structure provided
simultaneous outlets for individual and communal expression. (33) Levine emphasized that despite
many unfortunate external oppression, African Americans were only enslaved physically, but

The Bickerstaff Paper
The Bickerstaff papers begins sometime in 1708, were an almanac, almanac at the time were
arguably the most popular forms of literature. What the almanacs did was predict future events by
Astrologers, usually the upcoming year. The Bickerstaff papers were, in my opinion, the most
difficult to comprehend and interepert. Nevertheless, after careful reading and obtaining
background information in lecture, we can begin to notice just how humorous it is. Isaac
Bickerstaff was the alias of Jonathan Swift. Swift being frustrated that Partridge s attacks upon the
church, decided he would attempt to not only mock but also discredit the Astrologer. Therefore,
eventually forcing Partridge to no longer publish his almanac. Furthermore, what makes these
papers so amusing is the fact that Swift or Bickerstaff, in this case, made an almanac of himself.
Where he predicted the death of Partridge. Predicting the exact time and place of his passing. The
prediction was that Partridge would die at exactly 11 p.m. on March 29th of that year. This
prediction shocked most Londoners. As a result of the fall out. Partridge immediately replied with

Oskar Schindler Argumentative Essay
Over 11 million people died in the holocaust, and more than 7 million of them were Jewish.
Oskar Schindler was an entrepreneur who sacrificed himself for a cause he believed was unjust.
He spent most of his life around Germany in Europe. During the Holocaust, he saved over 1,200
people from the gas chambers. There are some people who don t think of him as a hero, but as a
man looking to make an easy dollar. In my opinion Oskar Schindlerwas a hero of the highest class
and deserves all the credit he received for his actions. When Oskar was born in 1908, no one could
ve guessed he would have such an impact on the world.
When Oskar was a young boy, he adored his father and strived to be like him. His Father and
Mother were both German, even though he was born in Zwittau, Hungary. His Father, Johann,
owned a farm machinery business that Oskar eventually worked at. He had one sister, named
Elfriede, who was seven years younger than him. After Oskar attended primary and secondary
school, he enrolled in a technical school. He was expelled from the school in 1924 for forging
his report card. After later graduating from a different school, he worked for his father for several
years. In 1928, he married his lifelong friend Emilie and he immediately stopped working for his
father but started looking for more ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The one problem with that theory is that Schindler all though very profitable spent nearly all of
his profits bribing Nazi officers so they would let his Jews live. Oskar nearly went broke from

Bringing Electricity to the Masses Essay
It was not very long ago that as night descended the cities, towns, and homes of the world fell
into darkness as well. Lit by candles, oil lamps, gas lamps, and open flame, the light put off by
these flames was not very bright and also had the down fall of producing fumes, smoke, and ash.
The electric light was little more than a novelty for the wealthy and only had small scale
applications where only a few bulbs would be needed. (Flatow 11) If we think about how
dependent on electricity we are today, it becomes difficult to imagine the world as we know it
without it. Our cars, computers, cell phones, almost every facet of our modern life involves
electricity. It wasn t till a young scientist; Thomas Alva Edison had the idea to create a... Show more

He was able to study the trial and errors of his colleagues and succeed where they had failed.
Another advantage for Edison was that he decided to build his light bulb around an entire
electrical system of his own design. He would design and produce generators to supply
electricity with integrated fuses to regulate and control it. (Flatow 11) Once the system which
would power his bulb was designed he began work on designing the bulb itself. The young
inventor began to experiment with different filament materials and shapes. He soon discovered
that no matter what he tried the filament would melt shortly after a current was run through it.
To resolve this Edison had developed a thermal regulator to prevent the incandescing element of
his lamp from melting says biographer and Edison scholar Paul Israel (Jones 55 56) What this
meant was as the filament heated up, the regulator would turn the light off briefly to allow it to
cool. This gave Edison the confidence to announce that he had made a breakthrough, though he
had not perfected the type of material used to make the filament. He invited the press to witness
his triumph. Disregarding that his bulbs did not last very long even after his thermal regulator
was in place; Edison was still able to convince investors to back him. Edison had been working to
design and build his electrical system at his laboratory in Menlo Park, New Jersey. Menlo Park was

Should College Athletes Be Paid
Samuel Wingert Professor Grimm ENG100G Midterm Research Paper 18 October 2012
Collegiate Level Pay to play? That s the question being fiercely debated on campuses and across
the college conferences. And it s shocking to see the level of support the answer yes is getting
because the idea tears at the very nature of amateur college sports (Should). There are views from
both sides as this is quite the controversial subject in the sporting world. Looking at the facts, it is
difficult to decide either way. First off, we must decide what qualifies under the pay to play
category. There are numerous ways that college athletes can be compensated for their time

To be fair to the whole university, you would think that they should pay all varsity sports teams.
Let s be real here; men s football and basketball teams are usually the programs that make the
most money for universities, so if football players and basketball players got paid, does that
mean that the men s lacrosse and baseball players would get paid too? (Pros and Cons). What
happens when college athletes decide to make themselves eligible for the professional league
before they graduate? This could cause a wrinkle in the system if you create a contract. Will it
be able to broken or does the athlete have to stay all four years? The big factor that all athletes
fear is the risk of injury. Some feel that players should have some sort of compensation while
injured. Is it worth the college spending money on an athlete who may not play up to his ability
since becoming hurt? A Nebraska state senator who is a longtime supporter of providing
stipends to college athletes submitted a bill in 2003 to allow players of Nebraska s football team
to be paid. He stated that they are unpaid workers who just aren t amateurs. They call it a
scholarship but he wanted to see the athletes to have some spendable money. An Oklahoma
university football player said that he plays for one of the top football schools in the country and is
struggling to get groceries every month.

The Letter From Jourdan Anderson
Reading the first letter from Jourdan Anderson, one of the meanings of freedom one can take
away from the tone of Anderson s diction is the freedom to throw shade. Seriously, Anderson is
now a free man and thus free to write smugly to his former master, and eloquently so. His letter
essentially tells the Colonel there is no chance in hell that he and his family will return to live
with the man who previously enslaved them. Anderson also expressed he knew he was already a
free man in response to the Colonel promising his freedom upon his return. Anderson states,
there is nothing to be gained on that score, as I got my free papers in 1864 from the Provost
Marshal General of the Department of Nashville. That line asserts to the Colonel that going
returning to Big Spring would not be advantageous because he can already live freely with his
family. He does not need, nor want to return to the Colonel s home. I think Anderson responds in
this way because he is entertaining the fact that the Colonel had the audacity to ask his former
slave family to return because he couldn t run things without them. Anderson brings up wages,
giving the Colonel a proper dragging when he breaks down the math for the thirty two and
twenty years worth of work for which he and his wife were previously unpaid. He splendidly
appends Add this to the interest for the time our wages have been kept back...Please send the

Of Mice and Men is a novel of hopes and dreams that get broken or shattered. This is evident

Robert Burn. The original line is The best laid schemes o mice an men gang aft aglay. Which, in
modern English, translates to: The best laid schemes of mice and men often go away. In other
words, even something that has been perfectly planned seldom becomes reality. This concept

Even moments before killing Lennie, George reassures him through this happy place they had

  • 3. Septic Tank Analysis How To Care For Your Septic Tank So You Avoid Problems With Clogs And The Need For Repairs If you take proper care of your septic tank, you can prevent unnecessary damage and the need for repairs. You ll still need to pump the tank occasionally, but proper care reduces the risk of clogs and damage to the drainfield. Fortunately, taking care of a septic tank is easy. Below are some guidelines to keep in mind. Rethink Using a Garbage Disposal If you use a garbage disposal on a daily basis, you send an excessive amount of solid waste into the septic tank. This waste has to be broken down by the bacteria in the tank to form the sludge layer on the bottom. While this might not be necessarily harmful, it does make your tank fill up faster than ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Also, think twice about using chemical drain cleaners. Rely on a plunger or snake when you have clogs. Avoid throwing away prescription drugs by flushing them down the toilet. Antibiotics could affect the bacteria in the tank. Be Careful About What Goes In the Toilet Too Also, your septic system will work more efficiently if you avoid putting anything down the toilet except for toilet paper made to dissolve quickly. Some strong and soft brands of toilet paper, facial tissues, and paper towels are too tough to break apart quickly in the septic tank. This leads to clogging and premature filling of the tank. Don t send wet wipes down the toilet, even if the label says they are flushable. They don t dissolve very fast and they will just build up in the tank. Other items you don t want to flush include cigarette butts, cotton swabs, condoms, dental floss, and kitty litter. The above guidelines will help keep your septic system in good shape, but the most important thing you can do for your septic tank is to have it inspected and cleaned out regularly. Don t let sewage back up into your house or leak into the drainfield through neglect or you may face expensive repairs. Call the experts at Mountain Valley Pumping when you need your septic tank inspected, repaired, or ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Dominant Theory Of Public Administration Essay In the following paragraphs, I will explain the dominant theory in public administration practice and elaborate on the major theoretical assumptions of the Old Public Administration. As stated in the question, the world has transformed through globalization, information technology, and devolution of authority since the latter part of the last century. The dominant theory in public administrationhas been replaced from the traditional rule based, authority driven processes of the Old Public Administration with market based, competition driven tactics in the New Public Management, beginning in the 1980s (Kettl, 2000, p. 3). This was an effort to privatize governmentand streamline public administration to maximize efficiency and productivity. Heavily relying on market mechanisms to guide public programs, public administrators in the New Public Management are encouraged to steer, not row, meaning they should not bear the burden of delivering services, but instead define programs that others will carry out, through contracting or other means (Denhardt Denhardt, 2011, p. 13). Core values of the New Public Management include using private sector and business approaches to the public sector, squeezing as many services as possible from smaller revenues, market style incentives, providing customers more choices, and focusing on outputs and outcomes instead of mainly processes. The New Public Management in the United States was introduced and popularized by David Osborne and Ted ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Brokeback Mountain and the Western Genre Essay The film genre of the Western has long since proven to be more about the conflict and showdowns that occur in the storyline. Usually the western genre incorporates traditional western motifs and icons and adheres to those common plot structures of the genre, but Brokeback Mountain is different from what is to be normally expected because it does not seem like a traditional and conventional Westernfilm at all. Brokeback Mountainhas several different twists to it, like the more modern take on it traditionally, characters in Western films were riding horses, but because Brokeback Mountain is a more modern movie, the two characters Jack and Ennis are seen traveling in cars and trucks most of the time. This alteration is very... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Brokeback Mountain, being the more homosexual romance oriented Western that it is, subverts a large number of the typical traditional elements of the Western film genreas a whole, this one especially, by having another male be in the position of the love interest of the hero. Although this subversion in particular is very problematic for Jack, as it puts him in the shoes of being associated with all things relating to femininity in the relationship. For example, Jack is the one who makes the first move when seducing Ennis, using his own allure and sexuality into tempting Ennis when he calls him into the tent, leading Ennis down somewhat of a risky path. Ennis, however, is portrayed as somewhat of a saint, his being repressed and restrained by social standards, saying to Jack, You may be a sinner but I ain t yet had the opportunity . Another interesting typical thing in the Western genre that was altered was that instead of Indians being the villain, the enemy is that of a ignorant and oppressive society a society that would kill Ennis and Jack for being different , Ennis says to Jack, this thing takes hold of us at the wrong place, wrong time and we re dead, which shows how much they both worry about it but the two cowboys still have to find some way to pull through and struggle to find their true selves in this society, but it is also that fear which causes the devastating events ... (City of Fort Wayne Parks and Recreation, 2013) Fort Wayne Parks and Recreation organization budgeted for and planned a way to help save this tree species. For the past couple years, biannual Ash tree treatments have been in place to help save the Ash trees of Fort Wayne. This past summer 647 Ash trees in Fort Wayne were treated to prevent the Ash Borer from killing them. Because this treatment is a biannual treatment, only half of the population of Ash trees was treated the summer of 2013. The other half of the population was treated the previous summer and will be treated again in the summer of 2014. (City of Fort Wayne Parks and Recreation, 2013) Davey Resource group was the lowest bidder and took on the project of treating the Ash trees. Davey Resource Group provides a full range of natural resource and utility consulting services to the commercial, residential, municipal and governmental markets. (Davey) The question arose about the cost benefits of treating the tree versus cutting them down. It cost approximately $43.00 to treat one tree versus the $400.00 to cut the tree down, grind the stump away, and plant a new tree in its place. Even though many Ash trees have been saved by this treatment, it was too late for some. So far 10,500 Ash trees have been cut down in the city of Fort Wayne because they were attacked by the Ash Borer. This year another 2,447 will be cut down also. Mudrack Tree Experts have ... • 16. Research Paper On How Coco Chaneel Changed Fashion Have you ever taken a step back and looked at how fashion has revolutionised over the years? Well, this article is taking a step back in time all the way to the early 1900 s to look at the way that Coco Chanel changed fashion. Coco Chanel was all about empowering women through her designs by throwing stereotypes of how women should dress out of the window. She introduced many trends that we still see within todays society with many of her original products still on sale even after her death in 1971. One of her original designs in the early 1920 s was the little black dress. The dress was an update for the modern women, known for both its silhouette and dark tone. Since the Victorian times, the dark tone was commonly associated with mourning. However this was soon changed after, with Coco being the one of the causes that made black a colour which could be worn everyday, for Coco black was simple elegance. One of her competitors, Paul Poiret reportedly scoffed at Chanel in the street, asking her, What are you in mourning for, Mademoiselle? The quick witted designer responded, For you, dear Monsieur. TouchГ©! One of the ways that she broke the female stereotype was breaking the social rule that trousers were only for men. When WWI broke out in 1914, many women who worked in manual roles in harder conditions began to wear trousers to the workplace for safety and comfort. Coco Chanel also loved wearing trousers herself, often borrowing her boyfriend s suits, she then began ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

To retrieve the eggs a minor operation is required, sedation and anesthesia is used to prevent discomfort. A hollow needle is inserted through the pelvic cavity into the ovary to collect the eggs. Now the sperm is needed for completion of the procedure, this is collected by ejaculation. The process of insemination now begins; a single sperm is injected into the egg for fertilization. It will include some graphic details, a deeper look into my thoughts and feelings, and much more. This is the story that helped change my whole mindset of football. This is what Friday night lights is all about. During the last football season, I suffered an injury that I thought was going to affect me in such a negative way. But it turns out, even though it was one of the most painful things I ve experienced, it ended up being one of the best things to happen to me. My whole mindset on the game of football changed for the better, and it made me into the great player I am today. It was homecoming night against the powerhouse Taylorville, it was cold, rainy, and the field turned into a swamp of mud, sweat, and blood. It was time for the game to start. Taylorville came out on offense and on the very first play of the game, Parker Stokes ran a 63 yard touchdown. It was one of the many spirit breakers of the night. It was time for us to return the favor, we came out on offense on the 20 yard line. We had 80 yards to go, and it felt more like 1,000. With all the rain we couldn t pass the ball, so we handed the ball off to our all star running back Terrence Hill, we drove the ball 56 yards on 6 plays. If a teacher of a special education classroom is working with 15 different students who have different learning styles and needs, that makes the teacher s position very difficult, especially if they did not receive the needed training in order to do so (Petersen, 2016). It is essential to serve every single one of our students (whether they have a disability or not), however if a educational system is not properly training their teachers, who are then not providing the needed adjustments for the lesson, then the entire school system is providing insufficient educational support for their disabled students, and for every student for that matter. The fact that insufficient training is occurring is only the surface of the issue, school system are also lacking in the movement towards a least restrictive environment. Socrates explains how old desires will be replaced with new ones, which in turn will result in people giving into their unnecessary desires. This will in turn create a city where people indulge in their appetites, seeking a life of joy and bliss, disregarding the need for law and order. (Plato, 421) Socratesdefends his claim that a democratic state is not a good one for the city because he shows how giving into appetites creates a world of indulgence and greed, and disregards the need for the ruler to bring about law and order. Tyranny starts when people start giving into to their deepest and darkest desires, feeding their evil natured appetites. As if all emotion and feeling is stripped from commercial artwork merely because it was created with the intention of pleasing a client. While the broad reception to this poster can be attributed to its shock value, Sagmeister s self mutilation was a commentary on the absurdity of inking the body with tattoos (Heller amp; Vienne, 10). The scratches in his body display the details of the lecture as well as Sagmeister s words pertaining to his philosophy on design, Style=Fart. Sagmeister explains why he relinquished the philosophy in an interview with Designboom: I discovered that this is simply not true.

If states wish to burden domestic producers with heavy regulation this is a matter of purely national law. However in exceptional situations stricter regulation of domestic production may actually give it a reputational advantage and so be a hindrance to imports. These measures of equivalent effect (MEQRs) result in imports being reduced just as if there was in fact an explicit limit. It is a sound that to us humans is appealing and it s something that we listen to when we are sad, happy, excited, mad, and etc. There are many types of music, but when i look at the type of music that represents reality the most it is hip hop and rap. Hip hop has been around since the 80s but it has become increasingly popular throughout all of our community. Rap artists started out rappingabout where they were from and the life they lived, and eventually it turned into rappers speaking about women, their riches and other social things. They spoke about things such as police brutality, black rights, natural catastrophes, and many other things that we weren t exposed to, or didn t know about. This is significant because music is heard by everyone, and if that person can make a song that sounds appealing to people, that person could send a message to other people about things happening far away from them. Relatively new technology, the sequential gearbox has been applied mostly in ATV s, motorcycles, and the automobile racing industry. Recently this technology has begun to reach passenger cars. There are three main points of discussion; the workings of a manual transmission, how a sequential gearbox works and the advantages of them, and the applications of it today. The sequential gearbox is extremely revolutionary and is only used in high end passenger cars, but maybe one day it will be a luxury the majority of the population will be able to experience. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... How Sequential Gearboxes Work In a regular manual transmission there are three forks controlled by three rods that are engaged by the shift lever by the driver. The normal H pattern that the driver sees on top of the shifter enables him or her to move the shift lever between the control rods for the three forks and thus moving the rods back and forth. When all of these aspects are combined a successful shift is accomplished. Transmissions on ATV s or motorcyclesusing sequential gearboxes have a set of gear selection forks that move collars, which engage the gears just like on regular manual transmissions. The gearshift lever is moved up and down by the foot and the transmission is moved from gear to gear. When the gearshift lever is moved by the foot, a ratcheting drum is rotated. This ratcheting drum has grooves cut into the side of it. The grooves on the ratcheting drum will direct the control rods when the drum is away from the transmission s gears. Moving the gear selector fork is the most common use of the grooves. With this in mind, whenever the lever is moved up or down, the drum is rotated one increment. The rotation of the drum allows for movement of the rods or forks as set by the grooves in the drum and the gears are then changed (Brain, n.d.). The gear shifting sequence can only be done in order; this means that no gears can be ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 36. The Description Theory of Meaning Essay The description theory of meaning was proposed independently by Bertrand Russell and Gottlob Frege as a response to some of the fallacies of the reference theory. Description theorists propose that instead of being a simple word world relationship , meaning is derived from descriptions associated with certain objects and stored in our mind (or senses in Frege s case). Frege and Russell s accounts of the theory differ subtly in how they view descriptions. Several objections have been made against the theory, but only the most important objections will be raised. These include Strawson s objection to the attributive use. Also, the problems of ignorance and error raised by Kripke tarnish the description theory s attractiveness. The... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This allows him to extend the Description Theory to almost every meaning. The extension of the theory to names seems natural as when one refers to someone, they often add a description. For example, The fat slob of a father on the Simpsons explains just who Homer Simpson is. This analysis helps the Description theorist to overcome some of the problems which plagued the Reference Theorist. This theory is an improvement on the reference theory, as it is much better at explaining some of the features of language, such as why we explain proper names with descriptions if asked. Comparing Frege and Russell s Theories While having essentially a similar message, there are some key differences between the two original Description theorist s hypotheses. Both the theories can pick out a specific referent indirectly with something like a description. However, while the emphasis is the same, Russell s analysis appealed to the description as being something within a competent user s mind, whereas Frege saw these descriptions as senses. He described these as being platonic entities, thus objective, whereas the referents they picked out as being subjective. These abstract objects are used to determine how reference can be made in the concrete world. Russell argues that there are not two levels of semantic significance in his theory, so that when his theory is logically formulated, it has a general nature , ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In his early years, he led a crazy and immoral lifestyle. A driven professor of rhetoric, Augustine s had lofty worldly goals and a weak sense of conscience. His intense drive to be successful would later create a major problem for him when trying to fully give his life to God. At an early age, Augustine began thinking his mother s strong sense of Christianitywas too uneducated for him. Because of his dealings with Faustus, Augustine learns an important lesson that content is more important than delivery when looking for spiritual truth. During Augustine s time as a Manichaean, he converses with Faustus, a North African sage who is known to be extremely persuasive in Manichaean beliefs. This takes place when Augustine is in Carthage at age twenty nine. Augustine truly admires his eloquence in speaking, and he was delighted by the force and feeling he brought to his discourse (Confessions V.vi.11). He is also impressed by Faustus modesty because of the fact that Faustus will readily admit his lack of knowledge in certain subjects and won t proceed in an argument or explanation unless he has sufficient knowledge. However, Augustine realizes that this lack of training in liberal arts that Faustus exhibits leads to his inability to sufficiently answer the questions that Augustine has about certain Manichaean beliefs (V.vii.12). Augustine is one of the few people that is able to see through Faustus articulate and educated speech and realize that the content is lacking. Because of this, Faustus, who had been for many a snare of death (Ps. 17:6), without his will or knowledge had begun to loosen the bond by which [Augustine] had been captured (V.vii.13). While there can be variations by way of culture, class, and ability, it is difficult to contest that human nature is the driving force behind the bodily changes that take place from birth until adulthood. In contrast, when it comes to determining the ways in which a child thinks and learns, there are numerous theories on what primarily influences cognitive growth and development. One theorist that offered an innovative look into this latter process was Russian born psychologist, Lev Vygotsky. Vygotsky theorized that children learn by doing, and their process of development is primarily influenced by the people and the systems that comprise their environment. What made him stand out from other theorists of the time is that instead of centering his ideas in behavior, Vygotsky instead focused on the learning process and the potential for a child to learn. He showed the value pairing learning with a practical application, and that in doing so, it could make for more effective learning on the part of the child. The result of such a theory was that provided families and educators an insight on how they might be able to influence the development experience for a child. Lev Vygotsky was born and raised in Communist Russia. When he first made his mark in the world of child development, it was not as an educator, but rather a psychologist. Due the ... It showed the world that a movie consisting of all black actors could still be a very popular movie. Even though it revolved around the concept of slavery, once Roots came out, minorities started to show up more and more in films. In the years to come, this trend would become more and more of a standard in America s mainstream culture. In the late 1980 s a film entitled Lethal Weapon came out. If so, engineers have a duty to act to the best interest of the firm, then is whistleblowing ever ethically justifiable? Always, people treat loyalty as a virtue. We were taught from young to be loyal to our friends, family and our country. However, in the case of loyalty to a firm, it could be a little different. Loyalty to a corporation is more on dedication and devotion to the development of the firm. Based on that, we can say that if the whistle blowing is for the good cause to the company s future, we may not say it is ethically wrong or the person is not loyal. For example, if your boss ask you to ignore some flaws or wrongdoings in a company project, you know the severe consequences for not solving those problems, then it is your duty to whistle blowing, because you are responsible to the company s future and the society, you are loyal to the objective of the company not to a wrongdoing person. • 56. The Letter From Jourdan Anderson Reading the first letter from Jourdan Anderson, one of the meanings of freedom one can take away from the tone of Anderson s diction is the freedom to throw shade. Seriously, Anderson is now a free man and thus free to write smugly to his former master, and eloquently so. His letter essentially tells the Colonel there is no chance in hell that he and his family will return to live with the man who previously enslaved them. Anderson also expressed he knew he was already a free man in response to the Colonel promising his freedom upon his return. Anderson states, there is nothing to be gained on that score, as I got my free papers in 1864 from the Provost Marshal General of the Department of Nashville. That line asserts to the Colonel that going returning to Big Spring would not be advantageous because he can already live freely with his family. He does not need, nor want to return to the Colonel s home. I think Anderson responds in this way because he is entertaining the fact that the Colonel had the audacity to ask his former slave family to return because he couldn t run things without them. Anderson brings up wages, giving the Colonel a proper dragging when he breaks down the math for the thirty two and twenty years worth of work for which he and his wife were previously unpaid. He splendidly appends Add this to the interest for the time our wages have been kept back...Please send the money by Adams s Express, and it is at this point that one can apply cold water to ... In other words, even something that has been perfectly planned seldom becomes reality. This concept foreshadows the events that will occur throughout the narration. It is a natural inclination for a man to dream. Some have lifelong ambitions, while others may have short term goals. The... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As they move from one ranch to the other Lennie finds comfort in imagining his dream come true: Go on, George! Tell about what we are going to have... . This is reinforced by George s quote you know all of it which shows what a constant source of consolation it was for them. Even moments before killing Lennie, George reassures him through this happy place they had imagined and yearned for together ; look down there acrost the river, like you can almost see the place . This shows how powerful a dream can be in one s life. In Of Mice and Men the dream gives them life, even though life itself doesn t allow them to achieve it. In the same way their dream makes death sweeter and bearable. George and Lennie may have never achieved their dream; but that is what kept their friendship alive throughout the difficulties of life. The goal of living off the fatta the land couldn t actually be reached, yet it was real in their imagination and that is what really mattered.
