- 4. CORONARY ARTERY PROFUSION • Left Ventricular contraction and relaxation propels blood into the systemic circulation and backward into the Aortic Sinus to the Coronary Arteries. • Blood Pressure: Measures arterial pressure within the body Diastole & Systole
- 5. RIGHT & LEFT CORONARY ARTERIES • The right and left Coronary Arteries are the first branches to arise from the proximal part of the aorta at the right and left coronary sinuses.

- Every hour of every day your heart beats continually (Slide info) propelling blood around the body to supply it with vital oxygen and nutrients needed to sustain life. To do this effectively it requires own exclusive blood supply – the cardiac arteries & veins (today I will be talking about the CA’s) Highly Variable CA Anomalies in the absence of any other heart defects are a cause of sudden death syndrome in Young Adults
- This relates to Blood Pressure which measures arterial pressures within the body
- RCA: Runs in the R Coronary Sinus Conduction System is vital because it regulates heart rate and rhythm
- Sinoatrial Nodal Branch - Supplies the SA Node
- Atrioventricular Nodal Branch (mainly internal) – supplies the AV Node by perforating the myocardium on the posterior surface of the heart, it can be identified externally at the crux of the heart which marks the intersection between atrio and ventricular septa
- Right Marginal Branch: Inferior to the R Atrium _ Extends across the surface of the Right Ventricle
- LCA: Arises from the Left Aortic Sinus and passes between the left auricle and to the left of the pulmonary trunk, it runs in the left coronary sinus and bifurcates into the … NEXT SLIDE
- TheCircumflex Artery: which curves to the left around the Coronary Sulcus to the posterior aspect of the heart and descends to the crux of the heart. In some people it runs in the Posterior IV Groove
- LAD: Clinically it is referred to as the left anterior descending artery (LAD) but anatomically it is called the anterior Interventricular Branch of the LCA this runs in the anterior ventricular sulcus, in most people it gives rise to the …. Next slide

- Coronary Artery Disease is a build up of fatty plaque along the walls of the arteries. It narrows the arteries this is called stenosis. It is the leading cause of cardiac vascular disease and heart attacks (MI)
- A Coronary Angiogram/graphy is a procedure performed by clinicans to assess perfusion/blood flow within the Coronary Circulation. A Large narrow intravenous catheter is passed into the ascending aorta via the Femoral or Radial Artery *Radial most common easier site to manage afterward* A Radio opaque contrast dye is then injected into the vessels which can then be visualized on Cineradiographs which are real time x-rays that allow clinicans to assess areas of narrowing or stenosis as well as normal and abnormal structure.
