Watergate Scandal Summary
Known as possibly the most notorious scandal to shock the political world, the Watergate Scandal is
quite possibly the most well known and famous of all political debaucheries. Richard Nixon, who was
running for his possible second term, bribed thieves who were, caught breaking and entering at the
DNC headquarters on June 17, 1972 (Staff). The FBI, who apprehended the thieves, connected money
found on the burglars to a fund that was supported by Committee for the Re Election of the President,
which was the official corporation of Nixon campaign at the time. Nixon was eventually found guilty
from evidence charged against him and testimonies given by his previous staff workers (Staff). After
many heated court battles, the court unanimously forced Nixon to turn in what tapes he had contracted
during the scandal (Scandal). The tapes proved Nixon was trying to get an upper hand on his
competitor and proved he was trying to hide wrong doings that had taken place prior to the break in.

One of the burglars involved was Eugenio Martinez. Martinez is known for writing his book, Mission
Impossible. Martinez was also a large member and activist in the anti Castro movement that took
place in the early 1960 s. He also had ties with the CIA (Watergate). Next was Bernard Barker who
has previously worked alongside Hunt in the CIA, at the time he was a real estate agent. Next was
Frank Sturgis who also had previous affiliations with the CIA. Sturgis worked as one of Barkers
associates while working with the CIA (Watergate). Also a part of the break in were Virgilio Gonzalez,
who was a lock smith, and James W. McCord Jr, who had also worked with the CIA and also the FBI

Teaching A Student Centered Environment
Students need to be the priority when it comes to student centered environments. In today s classroom
it is no longer the teacher instilling one way to solve the math problem into the students. It is the
students working cooperatively with the teacher and their classmates to find their own way to solve
the math problem. If they can solve a math problem in a way that is unique to the teacher or their
classmates and still gets the correct answer that is student centered learning. There are many steps that
need to be taken when creating and teaching a student centered environment in the classroom. The
three main steps are the environment of the classroom, teaching in a way that is student centered, and
assessing students. While these might ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
What I mean by that is that in a round table there are going to be some students who are not facing the
same direction. These students should have the same amount of opportunity to view the teaching and
the instruction as any of the other students. The second step for creating a student centered mint is
teaching. In this paper, I am going to be specifically talking about teaching math. It is important that
teaching be done in a way that is relational. This means that the children are answering the questions
their own way and in a way that makes sense to them specifically. In the book teaching students
entered mathematics Walle states that They develop their understanding of mathematics because they
are at the center of explaining, providing evidence or justification, finding or creating examples,
generalizing, analyzing, making predictions, applying concepts, representing ideas in different ways,
and articulating connections or relationships between the given topic and other ideas. (Van de Walle,
Lovin, Karp, Bay Williams, 2014, pg. 6). Method of teaching is very important when teaching
mathematics to children. With facilitative methods, the teacher might use investigations and inquiry,
cooperative learning, discussion, and questions that are more open‐ended. (Van de Walle, Lovin, Karp,
Bay Williams, 2014, pg. 10). This is important because through cooperative learning the children can
see other peers ideas. They got to observe different

Stanislavsky Method Acting
Stanislavsky and the History of Method Acting
I do not believe you. These five words were used by Konstantin Stanislavsky in the late 1890 s in
Soviet Russia to chastise an actor who was not convincing enough in his role. Although but a brief
glimpse into the mind of Stanislavsky, the words help bring clarity to a technique and system that
forever transformed the world of acting and drama.
Konstantin Stanislavski was an actor and director who is credited with pioneering method acting and
the Stanislavsky system. As an actor, Stanislavski was discontented with the prevailing ideas on
theatre and acting, leading him to drop out of the Moscow Theatre School after only being there for
about two weeks. He found inspiration rather in the philosophical ... Show more content on

One such case is Daniel Day Lewis who received traditional training rather than experiential at Bristol
Old Vic, a high profile theatre arts school in England. Daniel Day Lewis is known for refusing to
break character in between scenes and doing extensive research for every role he accepts. This was
particularly the case for Spielberg s Lincoln, in which Lewis studied for over a year and used his
Lincoln imitative voice beyond the confines of the set to play the titular role which won him an Oscar.
Lastly, Jake Gyllenhaal is known for undergoing physical transformations that rival the severity of De

scar on his hand, the result of a mindset in which the lines between the actor and the character were
blurred. Following Nightcrawler with the film Southpaw, Gyllenhaal spent 8 months in an extremely
rigorous exercise routine in order to have the physique he felt necessary to truly be a boxer. Lastly,
Dustin Hoffman is known to have engaged in method acting at least once as he stayed awake for three

The Correlation Between The Number Of Positive Social Essay
Abstract
This proposal aims to explore the correlation between the number of positive social supports that
adolescents between 15 and 18 years old have and their success in achieving sobriety when attending
Narcotics Anonymous meetings. Participants will be recruited through an availability sampling
method and asked to participatent in this longitudinal research study. As a result, this study will
expand on the minimal literature concerning how to best help adolescents that are seeking treatment
from drug addiction. Great
Effectiveness of Narcotics Anonymous for Adolescents
Drug addiction can be a powerful and complex situation for some individuals to gain control of.
Research and health professionals have historically shown that 12 step programs provide the tools and
healthy social networks that are immensely beneficial to achieving sobriety. However, prior studies
have largely focused on these programs effectiveness for adults, whereas younger populations are also
seeking treatment for drug addiction. This longitudinal study will have only adolescent participants to
enhance the minimal research that has been done on this population. It is relevant to social work
because the results of this study will help social workers to better understand that Narcotics
Anonymous may be more effective for some adolescents, namely those with many positive social
supports as compared to those with few positive social supports.

Influence Of Puritan Writing On Colonial Society
Puritans were an important religious, social and political group which helped form the opinions,
values and direction of the early American colonists. Thus, affecting the formation of our country.
Among the most influential and prolific Puritan writers was William Bradford who impacted Colonial
values and thinking. Puritan writers not only stirred the ideology of the people of the time but were
important historians. The puritan style of writing was simple, logical and pongnant. Carefully selected
words and sentences that directly addressed the issues and concerns at hand in a clear concise style.
The purpose of Puritan writing was to influence and govern the colonists; providing instruction on

Character Analysis Of Adora s Relationship With Joya
Adora s troubled relationship with Joya caused her to develop a serious pathology, called Munchausen
by proxy syndrome, which leads her to an obsessive search for external approval. Because of her
condition, she is unable to experience remorse for her actions or empathy towards her daughters
sufferings provoked by her detached behaviour and destructive tendencies. This disease pushes Adora
to seek attentions through the systematic sickening of her offspring, which allows her to show the
world what a caring and loving mother she is. She uses nurturance, an intrinsically female capacity, to
perform the maternal role which can lead her to obtain recognition. In this way, Adora turns maternal
watchfulness in an obsession, displaying the hurtful force of extreme dedication and nurturance. Adora
s psychological disorder devastates her daughter s and her own life, and serves as evidence of the
destructiveness of disturbed mother daughter relationship. The most noticeable proof of the
seriousness of her condition is Marian s death, which shows Adora s complete and insane dedication
to her own purpose. This exemplifies how mental illness overpowers appropriate maternal behaviour.
While she acts as an all powerful mother in the private sphere of the house, her own reign, Adora
tends to hide her oppressive force in public. The caring ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Stormbreaker
I just finished reading Chapter three of Stormbreaker , and it wasn t as confusing as the other chapters.
In fact, it answered my very first question since I looked at the book. My question was why is the
book named Stormbreaker? Once I read that Stormbreaker was actually a file, it was as if the words
leaded off the page. From what I read I think that this file must be important. I don t know how
important, but I have a feeling that it is going to play a big part in the story. Something else I noticed
after reading Chapter three was that Alex had more than one problem. I didn t really understand his
problems until I was done with whole Chapter. His first problem was that he had just uncovered one of
his uncle s file that was supposed to be classified. His second problem was he had now realized that
his uncle really didn t work at bank. If I was in Alex s position, I would ve grabbed the files and slid
down the flag pole. Personally, I think that Alex the reason he was knocked out was because he didn t
act quick enough. Maybe if Alex would ve pre planned before he acted, his outcome would be a lot
better. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

cameras watching me every step I take. I understand that almost every business establishment has

Masculinity In The Lovesong Of J Alfred Prufrock
Masculinity in T.S. Eliot s, The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock
The Modern Poetry Era (1914 1945) was a time filled with many new and revolutionary poets. Of
these poets was a man named T.S. Eliot, whom was considered by many to be the most significant
poet of his time. Eliot s earliest work, The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock , set the bar for
Modernisms exemplification of Man and his Modern Masculinity. This was done by incorporating
Symbolism, and Imagism along with looking past the profound facts, and into the subconscious
(Freud). Eliot s poem The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock is written as though Mr. Prufrock is
playing a game of tennis through Eliot s back and forth style. It may be hard to follow, but this
unevenness of thought shows how the Modern Male thinks. His inability to be decisive illustrates that
it is now considered masculine for men to think and feel, rather than just act out before thinking. This
belief is a major change from Week 1 s Romanticism era, where men were more focused on action,
rather than thoughts and feelings. Alfred Prufrock is portrayed as being shy and timid when it comes
to the women he wishes to address.
And in short, I was afraid. (Stanza 86)
I shall wear white flannel trousers, and walk upon the beach. I have heard the mermaids singing, each
to each. I do not think that they will sing to me. (Stanzas 123 125)
Based on these quotes it is almost as if the man feels as though he is unfit for the woman that he
desires. This display of shyness does not seem so masculine at all based on previous weeks readings,
but as time has passed it is beginning to be thought of as masculine in the ... Show more content on

Going back to the issue, is it right to abolish pork barrel? Following are some of the arguments
presented that support the abolition of PDAF. Legislators concede that the PDAF is corruptible and
has been corrupted through the years. (Crisologo, 2013 ) It is because it served as a tool for bargaining
or negotiation in different levels. Such compromise exchange according to Tawanaka can exemplify
the transaction between the President who is dominant in budget making and implementation and the
congress in general legislation by using the PDAF to meet both party s needs. Also, in the districts
themselves, the PDAF is political. Congressmen have become the charitable beacons to their
followers, in spite of the legitimate needs of others. The worst manifestation of this is when personal
gain is involved and individuals like Napoles provide the mechanism for this corruption. It also
becomes a way to fund political patronage, where the money is given to those who will ensure them
another term in government. (Crisologo, 2013 )With these, the objective to allocate this fund only for
public purposes was violated. Instead of fulfilling public s interests, people s money went to corrupt
politicians pockets. Concomitantly, some of our legislators, like

Summary Of An Inner Soldier
An Inner Soldier A chrysanthemum is a small and fragile flower on the outside, but it symbolizes
optimism and joy. So, a steel chrysanthemum illustrates someone who seems unobtrusive, but has a
positive outlook on every situation no matter how harsh the circumstances. Imagine a quiet and
humble man who has a lovely family, and is doing well financially. One day he loses all his wealth
and family, and is diagnosed with a terrible sickness. At this point he has no reason to live anymore,
because he is struggling in poor living conditions and lost the most important people in his life.
Instead of giving up and choosing to end his misery, he decides to fight back and views his situation
with a positive mindset. This man is a steel chrysanthemum, because though he may seem feeble he
actually has a steel core within him. In the short story Kokoro, Yasako is put into many unfavorable
situations. However, she is able to overcome all hardships by having faith and trusting in herself, and
making wise decisions that benefits her in the future. Although in many cases Yasako is shown to be a
weak character, she actually has a steel core inside. She does not focus on the past, but always looks
ahead, perceiving her current and future situation positively. Yasako is a steel chrysanthemum,
because she seems easily influenced on the outside, but has a strong heart that can not be altered easily
In one of Yasako s poems, Houston proves that she has a steel core by displaying how Yasako

Honor Killing Is The Murder Of A Member
There are always sets of law in every country, when people do wrong things or break the rule, they
will be punished according to the regulation. Therefore, each country has different rules and
punishments, which depend on its culture. Back to Roman time, there was a rule known as Honor
killing and that was the first time honor killing was started. It began with males who retained the right
to kill an unmarried female when she had done something related to sexual activities. Honor killing is
the murder of a member within the family by the other members. The males often kill the female
member as they belief that the female has brought dishonor to the family and the community for many
reasons such as engaging sexual activities without marriage. The killing shows the way to save the
honor and reputation of the family. In Pakistan, honor killing is known as KARO KARI. Karo means
black male and Kari means black female . Once a woman in the family is known as Kari, family
members will consider themselves to be authorized to live are preserved to be chastity, women must
be able to follow social restrictive cultural practices which related to women s status and family honor,
such as the practice of purdah and the segregation of genders. Most of the murders relates to

Zhou Enlai Contributions
Diplomacy is imperative to nations coming together. A country cannot stand alone; it is the relations
that the country creates which gives it power. Chou En Lai better known as Zhou Enlai was a diplomat
of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP). Enlai helped China continue as a major world power during
and after the Second World War. Enlai was smart and tactical. As a diplomat Zhou Enlai felt his
purpose was to modernize China. Zhou Enlai had a rich upbringing with the resources to study abroad,
a complicated relationship with Mao Zedong, and a strong career as Premier to the Chinese
Communist Party. Zhou Enlai was born on March 5, 1898 to a wealthy family of the Huain an Jiangsu
province. Born to a wealthy family Zhou Enlai was able to study abroad in countries such as Paris and
Japan. Although wealthy, his family suffered greatly from losses and debt. He learned from a young
age how to manage disputes. He had been bullied often and would form allies to counterattack the
bullies. According to Gao Wengian s novel Zhou Enlai: The Last Perfect Revolutionary, He revealed
himself to be an early master at creating a united front. This was a skill that served him well in later
years and may explain his capacity to survive so many hostile confrontations (27). The level of tactical
development that Zhou Enlai showed at a young age would later turn into one of his most valued
qualities. What s more, Zhou Enlai had joined Mao Zedong after Zedong became the leader of the

Oxygen Diffusion
Respiration, too, is essential to human life. In fact we breathe 15 25 times per minute. When you suck
air in, you use your diaphragm and intercostal muscles to contract and expand your chest cavity,
which shrinks when you exhale. You breathe in air, and it goes through your mouth or nose into or
epiglottis. From there, it transfers into your trachea, and then into the vocal cords, which are in the
larynx. Next, it travels until it reaches the bronchi, and is then relayed into both of your lungs. Air
goes along a path of bronchioles which become smaller and smaller until it arrives at the alveoli.
Inside these, oxygen concentration is high, and as a result of this, oxygen diffuses from the alveolar
membrane into the pulmonary capillary. When this process begins, hemoglobin located in your
erythrocytes is bounded with carbon dioxide, and a minuscule amount of oxygen. Oxygen is then
bound to hemoglobin, and carbon dioxide is released. (Freudenrich, 2000)

A Brief Note On Nanoparticles And Its Effect On The...
2.3.4.3 Nanomaterials
Nanoparticles (NPs) have recently received special attention because of their better performance when
compared with traditional mineral additions. The addition of NPs can improve the properties of
concrete due to the effect that the increased surface area has on reactivity and through filling the NPs
of the cement paste. Some of these nano particles include Silicon dioxide, Copper oxide, Zinc
peroxide, Titanium dioxide. The addition of silicon dioxide or titanium dioxide NPs improves the
consistency of SCC mixes. Less bleeding and segregation are also observed in the SCC mixes
containing these NPs. Also the addition of silicon dioxide or titanium dioxide NPs lead to a higher
T50 time, which can be expected to improve the segregation resistance. Jalal et al. (2012, 2013). The
incorporation of silicon dioxide NPs increases the V funnel times of SCC mixes. Madandoust et al.
(2011).
2.3.5 Production of SCC
The production of self consolidating concrete consists of limiting the coarse aggregate content to
about 50 % or less of the solid volume, limiting its maximum size to 20mm and using lower water to
powder ratios together with appropriate superplasticizers. (Okamura and Ouchi, 2003).
2.3.5.1 Mix Design Methods for SCC

and dense reinforcement. The coarse aggregate size for reinforced concrete generally varies from 10
mm to 20 mm. For a mix to qualify as

For the millions of years that organisms have survived in the Earth s superficial environments, they
have adapted to their surroundings in order to survive. This concept of evolution is firmly asserted
with who survives and who is left behind to perish. Many discoveries have affirmed that humans as
well as plants and animals have developed over thousands of years to postpone their eradication
through various growths. Everything from the segments in their spine to the smallest bone in their ear
is a collaboration of their predecessors and their environment. Dr. Neil Shubin has uncovered a new
adventure that changes the way that evolution is thought about through his book, Your Inner Fish.

what a caring and wonderful parent they can be, however, I did not choose this route. Throughout my

I believed it was just as challenging, and took just as much knowledge of the subject to be the worst
parent as it was to be the best parent.

Labor Movement In The 1800s
Labor Movement During the late 1800 s America became involved in a large labor movement that
would shape history. As America was becoming more industrialized, the need for workers increased
overnight. The workplace was changing as machines became common and the demand for unskilled
workers brought new groups into the workforce including immigrants, women, and children
(Aboukhadijeh). The desperation from both employees and employers brought awareness to working
conditions. Employees desired better working conditions, increased wages, and decreased working
hours. Communicating with employers proved to be futile and fueled union movements. Union
members would go on strike to force companies to meet their demands. Sometimes it would work and
when it didn t, companies would lock out employees and bring in new workers to do the job. These
actions led to violent protests, riots, and arrests. The Pinkertons were hired as security by companies
during these trying times. Toward the end of the 19th century, the agency became more involved in
labor disputes, always on the side of management (Crawford). The Pinkertons were labeled as villains
by workers as blood was shed during these conflicts. Coal mining was one of the industries heavily
affected by the strikes in which the Pinkertons would become involved with. Working conditions were
already substandard due to the process of mining coal. Mine workers were exposed to safety hazards,
long working hours and inhaled toxic

Artificial Intelligence Is The Dominant Theory
Artificial intelligence is intelligence exhibited by machines or software. Artificial intelligence also
studies how people create computers that are capable or preforming an intelligent behavior, like a
human (Business Dictionary). To back up artificial intelligence, there is functionalism. Hilary Putman
developed functionalism in the 1970 s, which is still the dominant theory in todays society.
Functionalism states that having a mind does not require a brain and mental states can be realized by
other kinds of substances. Mental states are also defined by their functions. In other words,
functionalism is where ones causes and effects define the views of their mental states. An example can
be defined as being in pain, which can cause ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Dualism is just a substance and it stated that the mind is made up of other things rather than just
atoms. Where materialism states the opposite. It showed that there were no such things as immaterial
substances, which meant there were no souls. Materialism was the simpler theory because there was
no mystery and it assumed the least. For that, Ockham s razor denied the objection to the mind body
dualism because it assumed too much. Along with that, materialism was able to prove that without
having a soul, computers can still be intelligent like a human.
Functionalism was an influence that made people believe in the possibility that machines can be
intelligent. It also identifies mental states by what they do rather than what they are made of and there
in that statement, the mind body dualism is denied by functionalism. Perhaps mental states are more a
matter of software, like running a program on your computer (Rosen et al., 355). It is denied not only
because there is not enough information to back it up, but because functionalism says that beliefs,
desires and emotions fit into the larger system since those types of mental states must be realized by
something else other than by what it already is.
Like anything else in philosophy, there are always objections to someone s theory. An objection or the

Nearly all Americans identify themselves with ideologies that don t discount another existing
ideology. Most people are Liberals or Conservatives because they have their own attitude regarding
our society. Liberalism and conservatism handle their issues with entirely different philosophies.
Liberals and Conservatives beliefs cover a wide range of issues that are influenced or established by
the kind of principles they embrace. The two most common ideologies in American politics are
Liberalism and Conservatism. Liberalism believes that they are people in the world that needs help.

In conclusion, Liberalism and Conservatism both have the same goals for prosperity, but have
complete different ways of accomplishing them. The differences between liberalism and conservatism
are vast, but they center on the basic beliefs within each ideology. Both liberalism and conservatism
beliefs support the status quo. Both liberalism and conservatism beliefs are deep seated in America s
principles of fairness, equity, and equality. The ideology of Liberalism and Conservatism has kept this

Starting a Family with Surrogacy Adoptions in Madison, ID
In today s world, there are a number of ways a couple may start a family. Traditionally, the only
options were natural conception or adoption. However, parents may now start a family using
surrogacy adoptions in Madison, Idaho. Surrogacy adoptions in Madison, Idaho provide a number of
benefits to the parents. However, the process is lengthy and a number of legal issues are involved,
therefore, having competent legal counsel to assist parents through this process is essential.
During a surrogacy adoption, another woman will carry the couple s child to term on their behalf.
Often, the couple s genetic material will be injected into the uterus of this woman; therefore, the child
she carries may not be biologically related to her. Surrogacy adoption provides parents struggling with
infertility the opportunity to bring a biological child into the world. In other cases, donor eggs or
sperm may be used.
To begin the surrogacy adoption process, the parents should consult an adoption attorney who has
experience in these unique adoptions. The attorney will be able to help the parents find a suitable
surrogate with a clean health record, and will draft the necessary contracts for the parties to sign. With
the assistance of the attorney, the parents will maintain

Imagery And Symbolism In The Sick Rose By William Blake
The Sick Rose by William Blake Twisted nursery rhyme through imagery and symbolism
In this essay will be discussed how imagery and symbolism, used within the poem The Sick Rose by
William Blake, contributes to the themes of the poem which is love, sexuality, violence and mortality.
Firstly, all the themes will be discussed in detail to their meaning within this nursery style type of
poem. Secondly, poetic devices such as apostrophe, personification and diction will be discussed to
explain how these devices contribute to the imagery in the poem. Thirdly, symbolism and the type of
symbolism used within the poem will be critically discussed in the context of the poem and the era in
which the poem was written in. This will help better ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Due to the nature of the poem s content it can be said that the worm is a dark entity that does its work
at night (line 3) when it is mostly invisible to others (line 2). The fact that the speaker calls the worm
invisible could also mean that the worm has hidden intentions and dark secrets. In one opinion the
poems themes can be linked if you think about the content in a critical matter. The rose is being
infected by a worm which might as well be a person that forces his love upon the rose . This person
might as well be a rapist and he can [fly] in the night...in the howling storm (line 3 4). Rape and sexual
actions mostly take place at night time which explains line three. Eventually the aggressor or rapist
finds the roses bed of crimson joy (line7 8) which is most likely the bed of passion/ pleasure seeing as
red is a passionate colour referring to romance and love. The aggressor or rapist shares his dark secret
love which could be rape that eventually kills the rose/ victim. Therefore, the theme of violence is
relevant because rape and/ or murder are acts of violence, the theme of sex is relevant because that is
what most rapist are interested in and the theme of love is relevant because even though this it is a
twisted view, the love depicted by the worm (line 2) is indeed a type of

The World Of Reading And The English Language
If there s anything harder than learning how to read for the very first time, it s learning how to read
with a parent whose first language is not English. Learning how to read can get pretty interesting
when you re trying to wander into the world of reading and the English language. However, this small
obstacle never stopped me from learning how to read or even from reading at all. Now that I am
eighteen years old, I have a big love for reading. Reading is a virtual escape that allows me to jump
into many alternate universes. My journey to the world of reading and the English language was not a
smooth one, but it turned out to be a rewarding experience. Throughout my years in elementary
school, I resided in Miami which obviously has a big Hispanic population. There are people who
speak Spanish or are bilingual like me. Yes, English is not my first language, it s Spanish. Despite the
fact that I am bilingual, English is the language that I am more comfortable with. However, before I
entered elementary school my mom had placed me in a day care that would teach me English. That
turned out to be a failure as we never received any lessons in English and the English that I did learn
was not quite appropriate for a four year old. That never stopped my mom though. She had already
been living in the United States for almost 20 years so she knew enough English to communicate with
others. My mother values education and learning a lot, so she would buy me books to improve my

Roman Polanski s Repulsion Essays
Roman Polanski s Repulsion
Analysis of an aspect of visual form in the film Repulsion In the 1964/65 film Repulsion by Roman
Polanski, the story is about the conflict between reality and fantasy or sanity and insanity inside the
main character s mind Carol played by Catherine Deneuve. Therefore the narrative technique of
symbolism is used to display visually to the film s audience what happens to Carol s mind. In this
particular instance, the degeneration of Carol s state of mind is symbolised.
Carol s state of mind degenerates, or breaks down because of her repulsion of masculinity in a sexual
context. Through Carol s eyes, we see masculinity as being aggressive, obsessive, crude/sexually
suggestive, rapacious and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Obviously the camera then pans to see this but it can hold onto the shot for longer than Carol looks at
it, giving the audience a chance to understand why Carol might look at it. As her state of mind being
like it is, what it symbolises only needs a casual look or glance at it from Carol. As a symbol itself, the
empty hut represents a pathway or tunnel to a dark kind of life one filled with despair, depression,
anxiety, anger, fear, hate, and/or any other types of negative human qualities. Near the end of the film,
this dark image is shown again, just after Carol kills the landlord with the cut throat razor. Her face is
kept in shadow an oval of near black and is framed by her hair, which enhances this image further
because it is blond.
As I have implied before, Carol s understanding of life around her is distorted. She frequently sees
cracks appearing in walls which can be read as cracks in her mind. In one instance, Carol sees a crack
in the pavement on her way to work. She becomes engrossed by it, and sits down on a bench by it to
simply look at it. The shot of the crack taken over her right shoulder shows that the crack runs
between her feet. It then splits into two cracks, making the entire crack look like a Y . This suggests
that it is used as a symbol to show two paths in life to take: the first being the good, realistic or sane
path; the other being the bad, fantastic or insane path. Her boyfriend then finds her claiming

via channels they understand because they are imbedded within that asset. Along those same lines a
liaison can potentially provide a direct military force to solve a problem when it is within their home
country. So instead of just providing intelligence support they could also provide operational support
as long as those lines of communication and understanding are in place. Potentially the most
beneficial advantage to cooperation is that of providing a viable cover to mask U.S. actions or
interests as local ones and concealing otherwise apparent U.S. behavior in foreign countries.
There are also disadvantages to foreign intelligence relationships and liaisons which the United States
must maintain a state of vigilance on (Rosenbach and Peritz, 2009). First the U.S. needs to be aware of
the potential for conflicting interests. Relationships with adversaries could potentially provide them
with sensitive information about interests, strategies, plans, or tactics critical to the U.S. This leads
into hostile collection and the fact that liaisons or foreign partners may attempt to leverage their status
in an effort to gain insight into United States intentions and or sources and methods. So as the U.S. is
collecting in a foreign partner s back yard this could tip them off to sensitive strategies being utilized.
Beyond those disadvantages there is the hurdle that different countries have different standards and
capabilities. An international partner may have less rigorous

Airline Alliance Advantages
Airline alliance can be defined as an agreement that consist of multiple independent airline to partner
up or collaborate in various streamline costs activities and expanding market penetration and global
reach (Hu, Caldentey, Vulcano, 2013). Nowadays there is a lot of Airline Alliance in the globe that
serve in many different regions throughout the world with the purpose to expands each existing airline
in the alliance network by using the code sharing, reciprocal agreements, frequent flyers programme
and many other more (Pitfield, 2007). Currently there are three main Airline Alliance that consist of
numerous number of airlines in each alliance. The Airline Alliance are Skyteam, Oneworld, and Sky

positive impacts towards the industry, passengers and the airline itself. According to Pitfield (2007),
the airline alliances give serious impact in term of passenger traffic, market shares and concentration.
The rise of the airline alliance has given advantages and privileged to the airlines. Some of the
advantages of an airline that joined alliance, it will able the airline to use code sharing within the

social media in the healthcare marketing circle. For example, if the messages to the patients are not
encrypted effectively, they may be accessed by unauthorized individuals. Most establishments require
putting the word secure before any email message; which automatically encrypts any email that is

Incoming and outgoing messages whether it is email or social media need to be filtered and supervised

Pros And Cons Of Modern Technology
Technology is changing and improving every single day. The future is guaranteed to be filled with
technology and there definitely will be some things that may work out better than others. Holograms
are ,in my opinion, one of the biggest things thats need to start being researched today. Some people
may think that holograms may not be as integral for the future as others may see, or may be ethically
wrong, but, I think that they are going to be seen everywhere and become as common as a smart
phone is in today s world. They have so many benefits, such as the the medical and political world.
Holograms also have so many useful possibilities for the everyday person, such as cars and phones.
Holograms are ready to mark on society, it is just a matter of time until we feel ready for them to
become reality. What is a 3D hologram. According to Matthias Mangold, the managing director of
Magic Holo, a 3D hologram is defined as a 3D projection that exists freely in space and is visible to
everyone without the need for 3D glasses. Just like in futuristic movies where you see someone pop
out of a phone and talk to you. This technology is a lot closer than you think. In a article that was
written in December of 2015, it states, A 16 company consortium called ETRI, led by LG Display
division, has created tabletop holographic display that can be viewed from all angles. According to ET
News, it s a true hologram and not a pseudo hologram that make[s] 3D effects through 2D images.

The Postmorbid Condition by Vivian Sobchack Essays
Reading Questions on the essay: The Postmorbid Condition by Vivian Sobchack
1. Sobchack s argument pertaining to on screen violence that she wrote thirty years ago was that any
violent acts portrayed in movies back then was to emphasize the importance of an element in a story,
an emphatic way of engaging the viewers and forcing them to feel what the movie was about. It gave
them a sense of the substance of the plot which would allow them to feel for the characters and yearn
for good to overcome evil. In other words, the effort made to engage audiences through depictions of
violence created violence that was artistic and well done, or as Sobchack writes, violence was
aestheticized. Violence was incorporated into film in a stylistic ... Show more content on

Sobchack also states that meaningless violence, or violence with no significance is not only prevalent
in film, but in everyday life as well.
4. Irony and Satire do contribute to the desensitizing of audiences due to the fact that the meaning of
violence is completely abandoned and viewers see only the comedic side of the scene. For example, in
Pulp Fiction Jules recites from the Bible before killing his victim, completely turning the attention of
viewers from the meaning of the young man s impending death, and in the scene entitled The Bonnie
Situation, the cleanup of the killing is focused on more than the senseless, meaningless act itself.
Modern violence in movies, in Sobchack s words, have become excessive in violence and that when
they elicit screams, they also elicit laughter. Too much violence becomes so outrageous and over the
top that gore and the quantity of death are expected, and that is considered funny by audiences (432).
As a result, violence does not seem real anymore.

Sickle Cell Anemia The gene or chromosome that is affected? The haemoglobin atom has combine

Euthanasia: Why It Should Be Legal
In the past, a doctor was a friend who treated the diseases. Now a doctor is a stranger who combats
diseases. Their job is not only to prevent death but also to improve the patient s quality of life. Lots of
times there is nothing a doctor can do to prevent a patient from dying if the patient has a terminal
disease; all they can do is wait for death to arrive. This waiting time can be very painful for both the
patients and the people who surround them. Not practicing euthanasia at the request of the dying
person is violating a person s rights, interfering with a doctor s job, and increasing suffering.
First off, deciding if someone wants to be alive or ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Hospitals are just wasting time and money on a situation that won t get better. If the patient wants
euthanasia they deserve a quick and painless death. Doctors cannot end the huge amount of money
wasted on a treatment that won t help so why not alleviate some of those expenses from family
members and taxpayers.
Doctors should be allowed to end life, especially when the person desires it. I am only doing what I, as
a physician, should do . (Kevorkian 170) It doesn t make sense that they can keep someone alive
without having the opportunity to ask that person if they want to be living like that. Many patients
now find themselves unable to live without machines that restrict their movements and often cause
different kinds of pain, and some may prefer not to live at all . (Marzilli 69) The doctor is just the
person who helps the patient to do what they desire.
Many would say what makes life sustaining treatment none beneficial or too big of a burden if it can
achieve its design of saving life. On the other hand, if death is in the best interests of some patients if
the withdrawal of life sustaining treatment can be said to be of benefit in this case then death
constitutes a moral good for these patients . (Doyal) Incompetent patients are unable to benefit from
further treatment or find it too large of a burden if they cannot benefit from being alive any longer.

I Am A Graduate From The University Of California
In 10 years, I hope to be a graduate from the University of California, Riverside, School of Medicine

I have a particular interest in pediatrics. With frequent visits to the doctor s office due to illnesses and

with. I developed a strong relationship with my pediatrician and aspired to be like him. Becoming a
pediatrician would allow me the privilege of watching my patients grow up and develop a relationship

Throughout high school, I thoroughly enjoyed my time volunteering at a summer camp for elementary

UCLA and volunteering at Kids Come First Community Health Center in Ontario have confirmed my
decision to pursue pediatrics. My time at Kids Come First has exposed me to the health issues those in

Socrates vs Protagoras
Philosophy
Socrates a sophist? Or just sophisticated?
Plato goes a long way in attempting to distinguish Socrates from the likes of Protagoras, a self
admitted sophist. In Protagoras, Socrates is depicted as a street smart, wisdom dispensing young man,
brash with confidence and a bit of arrogance that goes a long way when confronted with the old
school rhetoric of Protagoras. Plato begins to separate the two at the hip right from the get go. The
dialogue between Socrates and his inquisitive friend Hippocrates went a long way to show that
Socrates had more questions than answers about Protagoras, the sophist, especially when it came to
talk about what it is exactly that he offers. Socrates companion is eager to hear the words of ... Show

He preferred those who wish to learn from him, to come to him. The other sophist of the times
traveled through the towns teaching anyone at arms length, a method that was in much higher danger
of criticism than the one adopted by Protagoras.
A sophist would speak, a sophist would teach, a sophist would use language and words to manipulate
a situation to fit his point. A sophist would engulf you in his words and make the impossible seem
possible. A sophist would share his views on the world, life, and the future with you; he would make
you see the light of day even if it was night. A sophist was a wise man who had the gift of gab, the
ability to influence, the ability to sway, the ability to teach the young how to be better speakers. All of
the qualities that Socrates claimed he did not possess. Socrates was depicted as a clever man, yet one
who never taught, never persuaded, never tried to make his thoughts shared by others. He was not a
sophist, not a teacher, not a wise man . A wise man knows that he knows nothing . Socrates always
spoke of the fact that he was not a sophist because he was only out for the truth. He never wanted you
to believe his words just because they came out of his mouth, he only asked the questions that were
necessary to draw out the map to the truth buried down below the layers of rhetoric.

The Right to Own a Gun Essay
The Right to Own a Gun
Are you willing to sit back and become a victim of violent crime or allow the government to tamper
with your civil liberties? In recent years, anti gun politicians have attempted to control guns in the
name of crime prevention this is an assault on the Second Amendment rights of US citizens . The
Second Amendment states, A well regulated Militia being necessary to the Security of a free state, the
right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed. Not only did our Founding Fathers
focus their debate on the right of people to keep and bear arms, they devoted energy to encouraging
future generations to defend theses freedoms. In defense of gun ownership, Alexander Hamilton said,

FBI statistics accumulated on a countrywide level show that in states that have strict gun control laws,
there are higher crime rates. If gun control laws have any effect, it may be to increase crime! For
instance, New Jersey adopted what sponsors described as the most stringent gun law in the nation in
1966; two years later the murder rate was up 46 percent and the reported robbery rate had nearly
doubled. In 1968, Hawaii imposed a series of increasingly harsh measures, and its murder rate, then a
low 2.4 per 100,000 per year, tripled to 7.2 by 1977. In opposition, states with liberal gun carry laws
have much lower crime rates. In Florida the homicide rate dropped from 37 percent above the national
average to 3 percent below the national average after the state changed its concealed carry law in
1987. In 1987, Florida s murder rate was 11.4 per 100,000 compared with the national rate of 8.2. By
1992, the national rate had risen to 9.3 per 100,000 while Florida s had dropped to 9, and in 1993, it
continued to drop another .3 to 8.7 per 100,000. Between 1987 and 1992, rape increased nationally by
14.4 percent. But in Florida, it increased only 2.9 percent and in 1993 rape in Florida decreased .2
percent. Florida issued 204,108 concealed carry licenses during the first six and half years

Seton Hall University Graduation Analysis
Throughout my senior year, I ve talked to many college dropouts. In order to understand the perils of
college, I turned to these people in order to truly understand what I need to avoid in my college career.
Overall, many of them have said they weren t able to deal with the stress of life and college. This was
strange to hear due to the fact that these were people who I knew. People who I had seen excel in high
school. However, I eventually realized why these people were unable to progress or move forward
with their education. Many of these former students weren t resilient enough to pick themselves of the
ground after a setback. After this realization, I recognized that intelligence wasn t the only requirement
for college. The ability to be resilient in the face of adversity is also required. This quality of resilience
is one I m used to. When ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This year, June, I will become the first person in my family to graduate with an academic honors
diploma. In June I will attend one of the best schools nationwide, Seton Hall University. Despite these
accomplishments, I m proud of the time I ve dedicated to my community and extracurricular events. I
m proud of the placements and the letter I ve received for Speech and Debate, the influential positions
I ve gained in Student Council, and my presidency of BPA. Ultimately, I m proud that I destroyed the
barriers of statistics and the perception that an apple doesn t fall too far from a tree. Eight years ago, I
had nothing but the clothes on my back and the car that I slept in for over a year. Today, I have defied
the expectation of failure that statistics and society place on those who have experienced my
background. Tomorrow, I will construct my legacy even more so than the one of today. In conclusion,
I may not be the most intelligent candidate applying for this scholarship, however, I have a track of
resilience that will insure my success in college and

Engstrom Auto Mirror Plant Essay
Issues/Problem
In the Engstrom Auto Mirror Plant case, the main problem is the lack of employee motivation. There
are a few issues that contributed to this main problem. First issue would be an unnecessary extrinsic
motivator of bonuses to the Scanlon Plan. Originally, workers had intrinsic motivation from
communication meetings, which provides feedback for the company. However with the additional
extrinsic motivator, employees find the tasks over sufficiently justified under the self perception effect
so intrinsic value would be lowered. When bonuses stopped, employees lost motivation to work.
Another issue would be about the equity theory. In the plan, workers earn the same amount from the
bonuses regardless of the effort implemented. Therefore some Engstrom workers lost motivation since
supervisors work less but are still paid equally. This resulted in many workers complaining due to an
inequality of ratios. The last issue in the Scanlon Plan occurred when the company decided to lay
people off. Employees ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This would secure the basic level on Maslow s hierarchy. Afterwards, management could make job
security conditional on each team s performance. Teams who fail to meet the requirements would have
one member laid off and teams who excel would acquire bonuses. As a result, keeping one s job is an
extrinsic motivator, teamwork is encouraged and the E P O link would be tightened. However intrinsic
motivation goes down and there is conflict between teams.
Management could abolish the Scanlon Plan and advocate an individually based incentive plan.
Workers would earn bonuses according to their personal performances. This would be a great extrinsic
motivator for employees but this would lower the intrinsic value. Additionally, the free rider problem
and equity theory could be solved. However this plan does not reward teamwork and this would cause
conflict between

Developing A World Class Inclusive Education System Essay
The Special Education 2000 programme was introduced by the New Zealand Ministry of Education
1996. By introducing such a programme the government intended to develop a world class inclusive
education system. The model and aim at that stage was to reform the education system where children
with disabilities could be integrated into the mainstream education system. This would enable children
with disabilities to attend their local community schools where having the same opportunities as their
siblings and friends from their community. In 1996 Lipsky Gartner described inclusive education as
students with disabilities having full membership in age appropriate classes in their neighbourhood
schools, with appropriate supplementary aids and support services . In more recent years it has
become evident that inclusive education should include the participation of all students in schooling.
The system had to be restructured so that the culture, policies and practices in schools can cater to the
diverse needs of all children within the community that the school is located in. Inclusive schools are
based on the belief that all children can learn. They should also respect that children are different and
all differences need to acknowledged and catered to. Policies, systems and the structures within
schools should be enhanced to meet the needs of all children.
There has been a concerted effort made by the Ministry of Education and the New Zealand
government to reform inclusive

International Adoption Essay
The necessity of adoption in the world is astounding. Currently, there is an estimated 143 million
orphans worldwide (Wingert, vol.151). As of 2007, there were 513,000 children living in foster care
within the United States alone (Rousseau 21:14). International adoption in the United States was
jumpstarted post World War II as a way of helping those children who were left homeless, after war
had taken their parents. Although there are thousands of healthy children awaiting adoption in the
United States, several American couples still turn to foreign adoption when seeking potential children.
Americans often fail to realize the need for intervention within their own country and their duty to
take care of domestic affairs before venturing to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Children who are pulled out of their normal environment and inserted into different surroundings face
an identity crisis due to the importance of identity in determining who one truly is. In a study, Trolly,
Wallin, and Hansen discovered that fewer than fifty percent of the parents of foreign children felt that
their children were only somewhat aware of their birth culture (Hollingsworth 48:209). These children
lack a sense of who they really are and later in life will become confused on why they differ from their
new families. Though it is often a painful topic that parents choose not to bring up, it is important that
children understand their background because it results in a better quality of life. However, the
prevalence of cultural socializations was low amongst Caucasian families who adopted Asian children
(Deater Deckard, Johnston, Petrill, Saltsman, and Swim 56:390). It is made clear that Westerners lack
the cultural knowledge necessary to properly educate their internationally adopted children about the
culture the children come from. This can result in a variety of psychological implications due to the
significant effect of identity on the health of people of color (Deater Deckard, Johnston, Petrill,
Saltsman, and Swim 56:390). These implications tend to be internalized rather than externalized. In
the same study, Chinese adoptees displayed the possibility of behavior such as hyperactivity,
aggression,

  • 2. Watergate Scandal Summary Known as possibly the most notorious scandal to shock the political world, the Watergate Scandal is quite possibly the most well known and famous of all political debaucheries. Richard Nixon, who was running for his possible second term, bribed thieves who were, caught breaking and entering at the DNC headquarters on June 17, 1972 (Staff). The FBI, who apprehended the thieves, connected money found on the burglars to a fund that was supported by Committee for the Re Election of the President, which was the official corporation of Nixon campaign at the time. Nixon was eventually found guilty from evidence charged against him and testimonies given by his previous staff workers (Staff). After many heated court battles, the court unanimously forced Nixon to turn in what tapes he had contracted during the scandal (Scandal). The tapes proved Nixon was trying to get an upper hand on his competitor and proved he was trying to hide wrong doings that had taken place prior to the break in. • 3. Teaching A Student Centered Environment Students need to be the priority when it comes to student centered environments. In today s classroom it is no longer the teacher instilling one way to solve the math problem into the students. It is the students working cooperatively with the teacher and their classmates to find their own way to solve the math problem. If they can solve a math problem in a way that is unique to the teacher or their classmates and still gets the correct answer that is student centered learning. There are many steps that need to be taken when creating and teaching a student centered environment in the classroom. The three main steps are the environment of the classroom, teaching in a way that is student centered, and assessing students. While these might ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... What I mean by that is that in a round table there are going to be some students who are not facing the same direction. These students should have the same amount of opportunity to view the teaching and the instruction as any of the other students. The second step for creating a student centered mint is teaching. In this paper, I am going to be specifically talking about teaching math. It is important that teaching be done in a way that is relational. This means that the children are answering the questions their own way and in a way that makes sense to them specifically. In the book teaching students entered mathematics Walle states that They develop their understanding of mathematics because they are at the center of explaining, providing evidence or justification, finding or creating examples, generalizing, analyzing, making predictions, applying concepts, representing ideas in different ways, and articulating connections or relationships between the given topic and other ideas. (Van de Walle, Lovin, Karp, Bay Williams, 2014, pg. 6). Method of teaching is very important when teaching mathematics to children. With facilitative methods, the teacher might use investigations and inquiry, cooperative learning, discussion, and questions that are more open‐ended. (Van de Walle, Lovin, Karp, Bay Williams, 2014, pg. 10). This is important because through cooperative learning the children can see other peers ideas. They got to observe different ... • 5. The Correlation Between The Number Of Positive Social Essay Abstract This proposal aims to explore the correlation between the number of positive social supports that adolescents between 15 and 18 years old have and their success in achieving sobriety when attending Narcotics Anonymous meetings. Participants will be recruited through an availability sampling method and asked to participatent in this longitudinal research study. As a result, this study will expand on the minimal literature concerning how to best help adolescents that are seeking treatment from drug addiction. Great Effectiveness of Narcotics Anonymous for Adolescents Drug addiction can be a powerful and complex situation for some individuals to gain control of. Research and health professionals have historically shown that 12 step programs provide the tools and healthy social networks that are immensely beneficial to achieving sobriety. However, prior studies have largely focused on these programs effectiveness for adults, whereas younger populations are also seeking treatment for drug addiction. This longitudinal study will have only adolescent participants to enhance the minimal research that has been done on this population. It is relevant to social work because the results of this study will help social workers to better understand that Narcotics Anonymous may be more effective for some adolescents, namely those with many positive social supports as compared to those with few positive social supports. • 7. Character Analysis Of Adora s Relationship With Joya Adora s troubled relationship with Joya caused her to develop a serious pathology, called Munchausen by proxy syndrome, which leads her to an obsessive search for external approval. Because of her condition, she is unable to experience remorse for her actions or empathy towards her daughters sufferings provoked by her detached behaviour and destructive tendencies. This disease pushes Adora to seek attentions through the systematic sickening of her offspring, which allows her to show the world what a caring and loving mother she is. She uses nurturance, an intrinsically female capacity, to perform the maternal role which can lead her to obtain recognition. In this way, Adora turns maternal watchfulness in an obsession, displaying the hurtful force of extreme dedication and nurturance. Adora s psychological disorder devastates her daughter s and her own life, and serves as evidence of the destructiveness of disturbed mother daughter relationship. The most noticeable proof of the seriousness of her condition is Marian s death, which shows Adora s complete and insane dedication to her own purpose. This exemplifies how mental illness overpowers appropriate maternal behaviour. Something else I noticed after reading Chapter three was that Alex had more than one problem. I didn t really understand his problems until I was done with whole Chapter. Alfred Prufrock The Modern Poetry Era (1914 1945) was a time filled with many new and revolutionary poets. Of these poets was a man named T.S. Eliot, whom was considered by many to be the most significant poet of his time. Eliot s earliest work, The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock , set the bar for Modernisms exemplification of Man and his Modern Masculinity. This was done by incorporating Symbolism, and Imagism along with looking past the profound facts, and into the subconscious (Freud). Eliot s poem The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock is written as though Mr. Prufrock is playing a game of tennis through Eliot s back and forth style. It may be hard to follow, but this unevenness of thought shows how the Modern Male thinks. His inability to be decisive illustrates that it is now considered masculine for men to think and feel, rather than just act out before thinking. This belief is a major change from Week 1 s Romanticism era, where men were more focused on action, rather than thoughts and feelings. Alfred Prufrock is portrayed as being shy and timid when it comes to the women he wishes to address. And in short, I was afraid. (Stanza 86) I shall wear white flannel trousers, and walk upon the beach. I have heard the mermaids singing, each to each. I do not think that they will sing to me. (Stanzas 123 125) Based on these quotes it is almost as if the man feels as though he is unfit for the woman that he desires. This display of shyness does not seem so masculine at all based on previous weeks readings, but as time has passed it is beginning to be thought of as masculine in the ... Legislators concede that the PDAF is corruptible and has been corrupted through the years. (Crisologo, 2013 ) It is because it served as a tool for bargaining or negotiation in different levels. Such compromise exchange according to Tawanaka can exemplify the transaction between the President who is dominant in budget making and implementation and the congress in general legislation by using the PDAF to meet both party s needs. Also, in the districts themselves, the PDAF is political. Congressmen have become the charitable beacons to their followers, in spite of the legitimate needs of others. The worst manifestation of this is when personal gain is involved and individuals like Napoles provide the mechanism for this corruption. It also becomes a way to fund political patronage, where the money is given to those who will ensure them another term in government. • 11. Summary Of An Inner Soldier An Inner Soldier A chrysanthemum is a small and fragile flower on the outside, but it symbolizes optimism and joy. So, a steel chrysanthemum illustrates someone who seems unobtrusive, but has a positive outlook on every situation no matter how harsh the circumstances. Imagine a quiet and humble man who has a lovely family, and is doing well financially. One day he loses all his wealth and family, and is diagnosed with a terrible sickness. At this point he has no reason to live anymore, because he is struggling in poor living conditions and lost the most important people in his life. Instead of giving up and choosing to end his misery, he decides to fight back and views his situation with a positive mindset. This man is a steel chrysanthemum, because though he may seem feeble he actually has a steel core within him. In the short story Kokoro, Yasako is put into many unfavorable situations. However, she is able to overcome all hardships by having faith and trusting in herself, and making wise decisions that benefits her in the future. Although in many cases Yasako is shown to be a weak character, she actually has a steel core inside. She does not focus on the past, but always looks ahead, perceiving her current and future situation positively. Therefore, each country has different rules and punishments, which depend on its culture. Back to Roman time, there was a rule known as Honor killing and that was the first time honor killing was started. It began with males who retained the right to kill an unmarried female when she had done something related to sexual activities. Honor killing is the murder of a member within the family by the other members. The males often kill the female member as they belief that the female has brought dishonor to the family and the community for many reasons such as engaging sexual activities without marriage. The killing shows the way to save the honor and reputation of the family. In Pakistan, honor killing is known as KARO KARI. Karo means black male and Kari means black female . • 14. Oxygen Diffusion Respiration, too, is essential to human life. In fact we breathe 15 25 times per minute. When you suck air in, you use your diaphragm and intercostal muscles to contract and expand your chest cavity, which shrinks when you exhale. You breathe in air, and it goes through your mouth or nose into or epiglottis. From there, it transfers into your trachea, and then into the vocal cords, which are in the larynx. Next, it travels until it reaches the bronchi, and is then relayed into both of your lungs. Air goes along a path of bronchioles which become smaller and smaller until it arrives at the alveoli. Inside these, oxygen concentration is high, and as a result of this, oxygen diffuses from the alveolar membrane into the pulmonary capillary. When this process begins, hemoglobin located in your erythrocytes is bounded with carbon dioxide, and a minuscule amount of oxygen. Oxygen is then bound to hemoglobin, and carbon dioxide is released. • 15. A Brief Note On Nanoparticles And Its Effect On The... 2.3.4.3 Nanomaterials Nanoparticles (NPs) have recently received special attention because of their better performance when compared with traditional mineral additions. The addition of NPs can improve the properties of concrete due to the effect that the increased surface area has on reactivity and through filling the NPs of the cement paste. Some of these nano particles include Silicon dioxide, Copper oxide, Zinc peroxide, Titanium dioxide. The addition of silicon dioxide or titanium dioxide NPs improves the consistency of SCC mixes. Less bleeding and segregation are also observed in the SCC mixes containing these NPs. Also the addition of silicon dioxide or titanium dioxide NPs lead to a higher T50 time, which can be expected to improve the segregation resistance. Jalal et al. (2012, 2013). The incorporation of silicon dioxide NPs increases the V funnel times of SCC mixes. Madandoust et al. (2011). 2.3.5 Production of SCC The production of self consolidating concrete consists of limiting the coarse aggregate content to about 50 % or less of the solid volume, limiting its maximum size to 20mm and using lower water to powder ratios together with appropriate superplasticizers. The workplace was changing as machines became common and the demand for unskilled workers brought new groups into the workforce including immigrants, women, and children (Aboukhadijeh). The desperation from both employees and employers brought awareness to working conditions. Employees desired better working conditions, increased wages, and decreased working hours. Communicating with employers proved to be futile and fueled union movements. Union members would go on strike to force companies to meet their demands. Sometimes it would work and when it didn t, companies would lock out employees and bring in new workers to do the job. These actions led to violent protests, riots, and arrests. The Pinkertons were hired as security by companies during these trying times. Toward the end of the 19th century, the agency became more involved in labor disputes, always on the side of management (Crawford). The Pinkertons were labeled as villains by workers as blood was shed during these conflicts. Coal mining was one of the industries heavily affected by the strikes in which the Pinkertons would become involved with. Working conditions were already substandard due to the process of mining coal. Mine workers were exposed to safety hazards, long working hours and inhaled toxic ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Artificial intelligence also studies how people create computers that are capable or preforming an intelligent behavior, like a human (Business Dictionary). To back up artificial intelligence, there is functionalism. Hilary Putman developed functionalism in the 1970 s, which is still the dominant theory in todays society. Functionalism states that having a mind does not require a brain and mental states can be realized by other kinds of substances. Mental states are also defined by their functions. It showed that there were no such things as immaterial substances, which meant there were no souls. Materialism was the simpler theory because there was no mystery and it assumed the least. For that, Ockham s razor denied the objection to the mind body dualism because it assumed too much. Along with that, materialism was able to prove that without having a soul, computers can still be intelligent like a human. Functionalism was an influence that made people believe in the possibility that machines can be intelligent. It also identifies mental states by what they do rather than what they are made of and there in that statement, the mind body dualism is denied by functionalism. Perhaps mental states are more a matter of software, like running a program on your computer (Rosen et al., 355). It is denied not only because there is not enough information to back it up, but because functionalism says that beliefs, desires and emotions fit into the larger system since those types of mental states must be realized by something else other than by what it already is. Due to the nature of the poem s content it can be said that the worm is a dark entity that does its work at night (line 3) when it is mostly invisible to others (line 2). The fact that the speaker calls the worm invisible could also mean that the worm has hidden intentions and dark secrets. In one opinion the poems themes can be linked if you think about the content in a critical matter. Roman Polanski s Repulsion Essays Roman Polanski s Repulsion Analysis of an aspect of visual form in the film Repulsion In the 1964/65 film Repulsion by Roman Polanski, the story is about the conflict between reality and fantasy or sanity and insanity inside the main character s mind Carol played by Catherine Deneuve. Therefore the narrative technique of symbolism is used to display visually to the film s audience what happens to Carol s mind. In this particular instance, the degeneration of Carol s state of mind is symbolised. Carol s state of mind degenerates, or breaks down because of her repulsion of masculinity in a sexual context. As a symbol itself, the empty hut represents a pathway or tunnel to a dark kind of life one filled with despair, depression, anxiety, anger, fear, hate, and/or any other types of negative human qualities. Near the end of the film, this dark image is shown again, just after Carol kills the landlord with the cut throat razor. Her face is kept in shadow an oval of near black and is framed by her hair, which enhances this image further because it is blond. As I have implied before, Carol s understanding of life around her is distorted. She frequently sees cracks appearing in walls which can be read as cracks in her mind. In one instance, Carol sees a crack in the pavement on her way to work. She becomes engrossed by it, and sits down on a bench by it to simply look at it. The shot of the crack taken over her right shoulder shows that the crack runs between her feet. It then splits into two cracks, making the entire crack look like a Y . This suggests that it is used as a symbol to show two paths in life to take: the first being the good, realistic or sane path; the other being the bad, fantastic or insane path. Along those same lines a liaison can potentially provide a direct military force to solve a problem when it is within their home country. So instead of just providing intelligence support they could also provide operational support as long as those lines of communication and understanding are in place. Potentially the most beneficial advantage to cooperation is that of providing a viable cover to mask U.S. actions or interests as local ones and concealing otherwise apparent U.S. behavior in foreign countries. There are also disadvantages to foreign intelligence relationships and liaisons which the United States must maintain a state of vigilance on (Rosenbach and Peritz, 2009). First the U.S. needs to be aware of the potential for conflicting interests. Relationships with adversaries could potentially provide them with sensitive information about interests, strategies, plans, or tactics critical to the U.S. This leads into hostile collection and the fact that liaisons or foreign partners may attempt to leverage their status in an effort to gain insight into United States intentions and or sources and methods. Sobchack s argument pertaining to on screen violence that she wrote thirty years ago was that any violent acts portrayed in movies back then was to emphasize the importance of an element in a story, an emphatic way of engaging the viewers and forcing them to feel what the movie was about. It gave them a sense of the substance of the plot which would allow them to feel for the characters and yearn for good to overcome evil. Sobchack also states that meaningless violence, or violence with no significance is not only prevalent in film, but in everyday life as well. 4. Irony and Satire do contribute to the desensitizing of audiences due to the fact that the meaning of violence is completely abandoned and viewers see only the comedic side of the scene. For example, in Pulp Fiction Jules recites from the Bible before killing his victim, completely turning the attention of viewers from the meaning of the young man s impending death, and in the scene entitled The Bonnie Situation, the cleanup of the killing is focused on more than the senseless, meaningless act itself. Modern violence in movies, in Sobchack s words, have become excessive in violence and that when they elicit screams, they also elicit laughter. Too much violence becomes so outrageous and over the top that gore and the quantity of death are expected, and that is considered funny by audiences (432). With frequent visits to the doctor s office due to illnesses and infections from my vesicoureteral reflux, the health care setting became a place I was comfortable with. I developed a strong relationship with my pediatrician and aspired to be like him. Becoming a pediatrician would allow me the privilege of watching my patients grow up and develop a relationship with them and their families. My recent experiences tutoring disadvantaged children through Project Literacy at UCLA and volunteering at Kids Come First Community Health Center in Ontario have confirmed my decision to pursue pediatrics. My time at Kids Come First has exposed me to the health issues those in Inland Southern California are facing. Through my time at UCR School of Medicine, I hope to develop strong relationships with nearby hospitals and clinics, so that I would have the opportunity to continue serving that region. I would also love to incorporate my passion in community service into my career. I want to not only focus on healing individual patients, but improve the health of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 38. Pros And Cons Of The Common Core Standards The Common Core is known as the top notch academic guidelines in Arithmetic and English expressions/proficiency (ELA). These learning objectives diagram what a student should know and have the capacity to do toward the end of every evaluation. The guidelines were made to guarantee that all students move on from secondary school with the abilities and learning importance to succeed in school, vocation, and life, paying little respect to where they live. Common Core standards are effective in many students that will lead each and every student to succeed in their selected careers, including, Forty three states, the District of Columbia, four territories, and the Department of Defense Education Activity (DoDEA) have voluntarily adopted and are ... Presidential Pestel Analysis Presidential Knowledge In today s society most individuals are more concerned with modern popular culture transmitted via mass media but those individuals sometimes do not have simple knowledge about the United States presidential history. Conducting this survey I gained a perspective on the knowledge of Chaffey College students in regards to the history of the past president of the country they reside in. The survey I am conducting will contain four questions, two will be modern popular culture and two will be about the history of the past presidents. Out of the four questions I will only be focusing on one particular question on the past presidential history, Four of the country s most honored Presidents have their likenesses carved into ... I applied the formula of p̂ E ≤ p ≤ p̂ +E since we know p̂ = 62/100 and we calculated the margin of error (E) 1.644853626 then I applied the formula 62/100 1.644853626 ≤ p ≤ 62/100+1.644853626 and calculate it to be .5401610348 ≤ p ≤ .6998389652. I will calculate the same process for the two other confidence intervals. .025 .95 .025 I did the diagram for the 95% confidence interval which then added the left side of .95 and .025 to get .975. • 40. Socrates vs Protagoras Philosophy Socrates a sophist? Or just sophisticated? Plato goes a long way in attempting to distinguish Socrates from the likes of Protagoras, a self admitted sophist. In Protagoras, Socrates is depicted as a street smart, wisdom dispensing young man, brash with confidence and a bit of arrogance that goes a long way when confronted with the old school rhetoric of Protagoras. Plato begins to separate the two at the hip right from the get go. The dialogue between Socrates and his inquisitive friend Hippocrates went a long way to show that Socrates had more questions than answers about Protagoras, the sophist, especially when it came to talk about what it is exactly that he offers. The other sophist of the times traveled through the towns teaching anyone at arms length, a method that was in much higher danger of criticism than the one adopted by Protagoras. A sophist would speak, a sophist would teach, a sophist would use language and words to manipulate a situation to fit his point. A sophist would engulf you in his words and make the impossible seem possible. A sophist would share his views on the world, life, and the future with you; he would make you see the light of day even if it was night. A sophist was a wise man who had the gift of gab, the ability to influence, the ability to sway, the ability to teach the young how to be better speakers. All of the qualities that Socrates claimed he did not possess. Socrates was depicted as a clever man, yet one who never taught, never persuaded, never tried to make his thoughts shared by others. He was not a sophist, not a teacher, not a wise man . A wise man knows that he knows nothing . Socrates always spoke of the fact that he was not a sophist because he was only out for the truth. He never wanted you to believe his words just because they came out of his mouth, he only asked the questions that were necessary to draw out the map to the truth buried down below the layers of rhetoric. ... FBI statistics accumulated on a countrywide level show that in states that have strict gun control laws, there are higher crime rates. If gun control laws have any effect, it may be to increase crime! For instance, New Jersey adopted what sponsors described as the most stringent gun law in the nation in 1966; two years later the murder rate was up 46 percent and the reported robbery rate had nearly doubled. In 1968, Hawaii imposed a series of increasingly harsh measures, and its murder rate, then a low 2.4 per 100,000 per year, tripled to 7.2 by 1977. In opposition, states with liberal gun carry laws have much lower crime rates. In Florida the homicide rate dropped from 37 percent above the national average to 3 percent below the national average after the state changed its concealed carry law in 1987. In 1987, Florida s murder rate was 11.4 per 100,000 compared with the national rate of 8.2. • 42. Seton Hall University Graduation Analysis Throughout my senior year, I ve talked to many college dropouts. In order to understand the perils of college, I turned to these people in order to truly understand what I need to avoid in my college career. Overall, many of them have said they weren t able to deal with the stress of life and college. This was strange to hear due to the fact that these were people who I knew. People who I had seen excel in high school. However, I eventually realized why these people were unable to progress or move forward with their education. Many of these former students weren t resilient enough to pick themselves of the ground after a setback. After this realization, I recognized that intelligence wasn t the only requirement for college. The ability to be resilient in the face of adversity is also required. • 43. Engstrom Auto Mirror Plant Essay Issues/Problem In the Engstrom Auto Mirror Plant case, the main problem is the lack of employee motivation. There are a few issues that contributed to this main problem. First issue would be an unnecessary extrinsic motivator of bonuses to the Scanlon Plan. Originally, workers had intrinsic motivation from communication meetings, which provides feedback for the company. However with the additional extrinsic motivator, employees find the tasks over sufficiently justified under the self perception effect so intrinsic value would be lowered. When bonuses stopped, employees lost motivation to work. Another issue would be about the equity theory. In the plan, workers earn the same amount from the bonuses regardless of the effort implemented. Therefore some Engstrom workers lost motivation since supervisors work less but are still paid equally. This resulted in many workers complaining due to an inequality of ratios. The last issue in the Scanlon Plan occurred when the company decided to lay people off. Employees ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This would secure the basic level on Maslow s hierarchy. Teams who fail to meet the requirements would have one member laid off and teams who excel would acquire bonuses. Management could abolish the Scanlon Plan and advocate an individually based incentive plan. Workers would earn bonuses according to their personal performances. This would be a great extrinsic motivator for employees but this would lower the intrinsic value. Additionally, the free rider problem and equity theory could be solved. • 44. Developing A World Class Inclusive Education System Essay The Special Education 2000 programme was introduced by the New Zealand Ministry of Education 1996. By introducing such a programme the government intended to develop a world class inclusive education system. The model and aim at that stage was to reform the education system where children with disabilities could be integrated into the mainstream education system. This would enable children with disabilities to attend their local community schools where having the same opportunities as their siblings and friends from their community. In 1996 Lipsky Gartner described inclusive education as students with disabilities having full membership in age appropriate classes in their neighbourhood schools, with appropriate supplementary aids and support services . In more recent years it has become evident that inclusive education should include the participation of all students in schooling. The system had to be restructured so that the culture, policies and practices in schools can cater to the diverse needs of all children within the community that the school is located in. Inclusive schools are based on the belief that all children can learn. They should also respect that children are different and all differences need to acknowledged and catered to. Policies, systems and the structures within schools should be enhanced to meet the needs of all children. There has been a concerted effort made by the Ministry of Education and the New Zealand government to reform inclusive ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 45. International Adoption Essay The necessity of adoption in the world is astounding. Currently, there is an estimated 143 million orphans worldwide (Wingert, vol.151). As of 2007, there were 513,000 children living in foster care within the United States alone (Rousseau 21:14). International adoption in the United States was jumpstarted post World War II as a way of helping those children who were left homeless, after war had taken their parents. Although there are thousands of healthy children awaiting adoption in the United States, several American couples still turn to foreign adoption when seeking potential children. Children who are pulled out of their normal environment and inserted into different surroundings face an identity crisis due to the importance of identity in determining who one truly is. In a study, Trolly, Wallin, and Hansen discovered that fewer than fifty percent of the parents of foreign children felt that their children were only somewhat aware of their birth culture (Hollingsworth 48:209). These children lack a sense of who they really are and later in life will become confused on why they differ from their new families. Though it is often a painful topic that parents choose not to bring up, it is important that children understand their background because it results in a better quality of life. However, the prevalence of cultural socializations was low amongst Caucasian families who adopted Asian children (Deater Deckard, Johnston, Petrill, Saltsman, and Swim 56:390). It is made clear that Westerners lack the cultural knowledge necessary to properly educate their internationally adopted children about the culture the children come from. This can result in a variety of psychological implications due to the significant effect of identity on the health of people of color (Deater Deckard, Johnston, Petrill, Saltsman, and Swim 56:390). These implications tend to be internalized rather than externalized. In the same study, Chinese adoptees displayed the possibility of behavior such as hyperactivity, aggression, ...
