Residential real estate is the business of buying, selling, renting, and leasing property for a

Wayne State University LITERATURE REVIEW The research question what impact can librarians
and libraries have on the decline in older children and teen use of library services and recreational
reading can be broken down to discuss several subtopics. This literature review examines peer
reviewed background material to provide a basis for the research questions discussed within this
study. The review of the literature is divided into four subtopics that were studied using different

Factors Affecting the Decline in Aging Children
The early teen reading slump has been noted by researchers. Researchers have consistently found
that pleasure reading increases throughout childhood and begins to decline, usually at age
twelve to thirteen. Howard, V. (2009). Unfortunately, few researchers have explored the specific
reasons for this decline from the perspective of teens themselves. Even fewer still have explored
the role that reading for pleasure plays in the lives of young teens. Public libraries focus
simultaneously on improving services to teen patrons and to pleasure readers of all ages as key
to strategies to maintain importance and competitive advantage in the age of Google. (p. 298).
One of the most significant barriers in the reading decline is difficulties selecting appealing
reading materials. (p.299). This particular study was collected using focus group questions with
249 completed surveys out of the 900 sent to junior high school students. There were several
factors that effected teen reading and usage of library services. Teens did not view library staff
as a useful source of readers advisory. Teens describe their lives as very busy, leaving little time to
read for pleasure. In this study, many teens note that they have more homework that elementary
school, but also more freedom to socialize. Teens describe their dislike of assigned reading and
their desire to select their own reading materials. This research

The Human Relations Movement Of George Elton Mayo
Managers throughout history have been interested in studying ways to increase productivity. For
example, Frederick Taylor began the movement of scientific management in the 1880 s. Scientific
management looked to improve productivity through means of scientific analysis of worker s tasks
and work processes rather than the old rule of thumb (Taylor, 1914). Taylor believed that he could
maximize worker efficiency and productivity through focusing on workers specific hand motions
and patterns. After this period, beginning in about the 1930 s, managers looked to take productivity
to yet another level by studying worker physiology and motivation. This new movement came to be
known as the human relations movement. George Elton Mayo is credited with founding the
human relations movement. Mayo conducted an experiment in the 1920 s and 1930 s know as the
Hawthorne study. Two of the main aspects of the study centered around illumination in the work
place and varying levels of break time and work hours (Wickström, 2000). The illumination study
consisted of four different experiments over the course of three years. In each experiement, there
was a control group and a study group. In the varying studies, the researchers experimented with
varying levels of light and varying sequences of increasing and decreasing the level of light (
Hawthorne effect). Throughout the experiments, researchers would often find patterns of increased
productivity, leading them to believe that they had

Jimmy Savile Interview Analysis
INTERVIEW ANALYSIS The interview consisted of one participant. I have conducted a semi
structure with this interview, detailing the representations of how CSA is portrayed by the
media. The interviewee was given four different media articles, majority of the media items
focused on the Jimmy Savile scandal and just a small mention of historic CSA: (Historical Child

years of abuse at the BBC delayed for a third time by the Independent, Jimmy Savile: Timeline of
his sexual abuse and its uncovering by the Guardian and Scotland Yard accuses the BBC of
hampering its investigations into historical child sexual abuse by the Telegraph). I instantly feel a
wave of dread flow through me when I think of a young innocent child possibly going through a

Persuasive Essay About Hispanic Ethnic Groups
There is a massive amount of ethnicities in this world. You have ethnic groups that are not
necessarily related to where you came from but what group you identify yourself with. As a
descendant who speaks the Spanish language we are categorized as being part of the Hispanic
ethnic group. My father having twelve siblings and my mother having nine, it was a huge family.
Our grandparents and parents inculcated us to be a united family with all the values and beliefs
they initiated. Every ethnic groupis similar but different in its own unique way. In which some
have music, food and believes that characterize us as that specific ethnic group. The only
difference is the way people embrace it. We also have many different types of celebrations... Show

Women are only allowed to do what their husbands command. If they need to go somewhere
they have to ask for permission before hand. Many Hispanic men are called male chauvinist. A
male chauvinist is a male who patronizes, disparages, or otherwise denigrates females in the
belief that they are inferior to males and deserving of less than equal treatment or benefit ( the
definition of male chauvinist , 2017). They believe that they have rights to do anything they
desire including having affairs. If the women would commit the same mistakes it would be
called adultery. Women that come to this country married stay with their original beliefs because
that is what they were inculcated growing up. I have to understand that it is there believe but is
one of the things I feel ashamed about. We also value our family because without them we would
be lonely and miserable in a country where we do not know anyone and is very hard for us to
communicate with others for the same reason that some Hispanics only speak Spanish. While
growing up I remember spending Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years with all of my aunts
and uncles. Everyone would get together and spend the most important holidays to remind
ourselves that we were not alone, that we had family we could count on. Being part of the

How Is Jocasta Weak
She gave up her baby for death. She married and had kids with her son. Upon realization, she
committed suicide. All of these events lead readers to view Queen Jocasta as weak because readers
do not look at the whole character of Jocasta and her various characteristics that she displays
throughout Sophocles OedipusRex. From when we first meet her to her suicide, Jocasta has shown
admirable qualities, especially for a woman. In the play, Jocasta portrays a strong will and sense of
defiance through her demeanor and thoughts. In the initial meeting of the Queen, Jocasta is shown
as defiant because of the assertiveness she shows. For example, Jocasta interrupts Creon and
Oedipus with, Have you no sense? Poor misguided men,/ such shouting why... Show more content

In fact, once she realizes Oedipus will discover the truth of the prophecy, she bursts out
exclaiming, Aieeeeee / man of agony / that is the only name I have for you,/ that, no other ever,
ever, ever! (1176 1179). Though this outburst may seem like Jocasta is trying to avoid the
subject, the way women are characterized as, Jocasta is trying to change the way events will
unfold. Instead of making the truth of the prophecy known, she tries to make people believe that
prophecies are false. In this way, Jocasta tries to defy the Gods because she refuses to embrace
that the prophecy is true. Similarly, a servant explains her actions before her suicide to the
country after she had ran inside: Once she d broken in through the gates, dashing past us, frantic,
whipped to fury, [...] she wailed for Laius, dead so long, [...] And then but how she died is more
than I can say (1369 1382). Many people view Jocasta as weak in this scene, yet they fail to see
how she was defying the Gods. She had learned that there is no way to escape the prophecies that
were told to them, so took matters into her own hands by deciding to end her life. Jocasta refuses
to let people, even the Gods, take control of her life and in the end she had the final say to her life
thought it led to her demise. Though some actions may be perceived as weak characteristics, if you

Battle Of The Black Hills Essay
In June of 1876, a brief battle fought between US Army and a confederation of plains Indians was
the culminating aspect of a decade s old struggle between the two forces. Many misconceptions are
surrounding what happened between 3:45 and 5:00 PM on June 25, 1876, some things will never
be known. Though the battle lasted only less than an hour, the build up was years in the making
and the aftermath is still being felt to this day.
Background:
The United States government recognized the Black Hills as belonging to the Sioux by the Treaty
of Laramie in 1868. Despite being within Indian Territory, and therefore off limits, white Americans
were increasingly interested in the gold mining possibilities of the Black Hills (Kappler). ... Show

Major Reno led his attack into the village and quickly realized the tremendous blunder. Among
the Native Americans, word quickly spread of the attack. Maj Reno was quickly overwhelmed
and started a hasty retreat. Reno was able to make it back across the Little Bighorn river, but he
took heavy casualties, and was able to hold off total annihilation when a reserve group arrived
(history channel). Custer began his attack, but was delayed by trying to find a suitable river
crossing. Before Custer was able to find a crossing, the alerted Sioux were already mounted and
headed to meet him, and the Sioux already knew where the good river crossings were. Custer
was immediately over matched and started taking casualties from the onset. Custer began a very
disorganized, zigzag retreat over various hills and bluffs, but was quickly surrounded by
overwhelming force. He had by most accounts between two hundred ten and two hundred and
fifty soldiers, and they made their way to what was later called Last Stand Hill. There, as the
surrounding Indians closed in on the soldiers, the soldiers shot their horses and use them for
breastworks and cover. The soldiers on Last Stand Hill were quickly overrun, and all killed,
Custer lifeless body was found atop the hill with bullet wounds to his chest and head. Either of the
wounds would have been fatal, but medical experts suggest head wound was said to be

the forrest because man is the most dangerous animal of them all... (Haugen 32). Who is the
twisted man behind this letter? This is certainly, without a doubt, the Zodiac Killer. Zodiac had
written many letters to the police departments in Northern California between the years of 1969
through 1978. The majority of the letters were written as ciphers, (coded letters), which still
today remain coded. Zodiac had denied the authorities any leads on his identity which still
remains as an unsolved mystery today. So who was, or still is, the identity of The Zodiac Killer?

Mageau described the murderer as a young white man with a large face who was approximately
5 foot 8 inches (173 centimeters) and weighing approximately 195 pounds (88 kilograms). Johns
tried to pay attention to all the details about the Zodiac during her abduction. When Johns was
taken to Patterson Police Station to tell her story of her abduction, Johns noticed a sketch of a
man whom was drawn for the murder of Paul Stine. Paul Stine had been previously murdered
prior to her abduction. Johns clarified that the sketch was a replica of her abductor. From this
limited information, there isn t enough evidence to locate Zodiac today.
From the third linked murder, Zodiac left a message on Bryan Hartnell s car door which
indicated the dates and times of each murder. The last date was cut into the door by a knife
which referred to Cecelia Shepard and Bryan Hartnell s death. As Zodiac left the crime scene,
authorities found his footprints going to and coming from the crime scene. The

How Effectively Does the Poet Convey Aspects of Change in...
How effectively does the poet convey aspects of change in Funeral Blues ?
Funeral Blues by W. H. Auden is a poem is about death and grief. It was originally written as a
satirical poem about the death of a politician, though was later edited to become solemn. The poet
effectively conveys aspects of change, such as the human condition in relation to the experience of
loss. This is conveyed through tone, metaphors, imagery and anaphora.
The aspect of the human condition and our response to loss is expressed through the tone of the
poem. The tone is an example of how of how a person would react and treat the world around when
they lose someone. An imperative tone is created through the diction of verbs. In the first stanza, the

This shows how much the narrator has lost as they have indicated that they have not relied on
anyone or anything else. In the last stanza, the narrator orders that the metaphysical be taken away.
The verbal commands, such as dismantle and sweep , have negative connotations to them and
therefore assert how redundant life now seems for the person.
Hyperbole and personification is used to indicate how difficult it can be to come to terms with
loss and how alone one can feel. The hyperbolic orders in stanza four to take away the features of
space and earth, such as pack up the moon... , which is impossible, is indicative that the narrator
has not yet come to terms with the change. The absence of the objects producing light, such as the
stars... , which are expressed through the visual imagery creates a sense of increasing darkness
which is parallel to the absence and loneliness experienced by the narrator. The personification of
the aeroplanes in stanza two is an aural declaration of how the narrator is feeling. Moaning suggests
the pain and agony of which the narrator is experiencing.
Funeral Blues by W.H. Auden effectively uses a range of techniques such as tone, imagery,
metaphors and amphora to creatively express the feeling of loss inevitably experienced by humans
due to change. The author also expresses a

Emmett Till Reflection
1.The whole story and trial of Emmett Till was probably one of the most saddest stories I have
heard about. What surprised me most is the reason why they killed Emmett. This just showed
how much blacks were looked down upon. Nowadays, women get whistled at all the time by all
different types of men. This is just a rude gesture to whistle at a women, however we wouldn t
brutally murder them. What also surprised me was how they killed him. The murderers did not
have to savagely kill him. This changed my view on history and actually opened my eyes. I think
we need to be better educated on the subject that everybody tries to ignore.
2.During the trial, businesses put out jars to collect money for the defense of the two murderers.
This shows that everyone was on the murderers side. The community views the white race as the
superior race, and that is why the murderers were not guilty. Society then, was not a time that we

also ask what if it was the year 2015, would they still do that as kids? I would expect them to be
surprised about the first question. As children, we do not understand what we are doing, but we
should know right from wrong and laughing at someone, pretending to kill them is unacceptable.
I would expect them to answer what it meant to do that and I think they would explain that they

how they felt about race growing with obviously saying that the colored people were looked

Analysis Of Willy Loman In Arthur Miller s Death Of A...
In the tragic play, Death of a Salesman by Arthur Miller, Miller shows the dark side of those
living in America who strive for success. The play follows a 63 year old struggling salesman
living in the late 1940 s by the name of Willy Loman. Willy aspires to be wealthy and known by
living out the American Dream so he could support himself and his family. However, Willy, being
the tragic hero, ultimately fails in completing any of his goals. The suffering brought upon by
Willy Loman and his obsession with the American Dream contributes to the tragic vision of the
play as a whole because Willy was destined to fail at the get go, his vision of the American Dream
conceals reality, and Willy s beliefs that he holds dear are false. In Death of a Salesmanby Arthur
Miller, the protagonist and tragic hero, Willy, was destined to be unsuccessful at the get go. In
the play, it is revealed that Willy is skilled with his hands. However, Willy remains a salesman,
and never pursues a more hands on job. In the requiem, after Linda explains that Willy was
wonderful with his hands, Biff claims, He had the wrong dreams. All, all wrong, (Miller 138).
Biff means that Willy was going to inevitably fail as a salesman because Willy sought prosperity
with a job that didn t match his specialty. This statement also hints that if Willy had a hands on job,
maybe he could have been successful in life. Also, Willy s stubbornness supports the fact that Willy
was bound to fail. Whenever an opportunity

How Laughter and Music can give you overall better health
Laughter and music are very important in many people s lives. Whether it is a funny joke, seeing
something that s amusing, or starting the day listening to a favorite song, Laughter and music can
make a person feel good. Not many people realize the health benefits that come with laughter and
music; both can affect a person s health in a positive way. This research paper will explain the

There are many health benefits that come with laughter. First of all, laughter and exercise share
many similar characteristics. When you have a good laugh you get a feeling in your stomach just
like when you ve had a really good workout. Both can boost your health, and ultimately make you
stronger. Sometimes people are faced with tough situations that we have no control over. In those
times you can either get worked up about them, or you can lighten up the situation and have a good
laugh, laughing will help you cope in those unexpected times and help you get through it. It can
make anyone feel better from a difficult situation and that is a great benefit. With that said, laughing
can decrease stress. When we are faced with anxiety, stress hormones like cortisoland epinephrine
start to get high. Lots of laughter will decrease those stress hormones and make you feel better.
According to http://www.cdc.gov/bloodpressure/facts.htm 67 million American adults suffer with

Christian Disciplines Of The Spiritual Realm
Introduction
The classic Disciplines of the spiritual life call us to move beyond surface living into the depths.
They invite us to explore the inner caverns of the spiritual realm. They urge us to be the answer
to a hollow world. There are many different but important Christian disciplines. Some that as
Christian we all practice on a regular basses while other which people are specifically called to
undertake during their walk. As Christians we may never fully participate in every discipline
throughout our walk. The discipline of fasting is one which has been around before Jesus, Old
Testament saints fasted at times of mourning and national repentance. They fasted when they
needed strength or mercy or persevere and when they wanted a word from God (see 1 Samuel

our Christian walk, to help us draw closer to God and to rely and trust Him more.
Summaries your original understanding of the discipline before the course started.
As a young Christian, my knowledge about the Christian disciplines was very limited. I had a very
limited knowledge on fasting. I believed that is was just something Christians did, as God called
them to do, not that there was such a deep meaning to the discipline of fasting. I understood that it
was what Jesus did a number of times.

Contemporary Hand Papermaking in North America and Europe
Contemporary Hand Papermaking in North America and Europe
The practice of making paper by hand draws forth past centuries in a single sheet of tangled fibers.
At the same time, the advances of both contemporary hand papermakers and modern technology
have merged this tradition with innovation to create paper of unsurpassed beauty and quality.
Despite the speed and economic advantages of machine made paper, traditional handmade paper
grasps its hold on the modern world, and mills across North America and Western Europe have re
emerged to produce fine handmade papers for artists, bookmakers, and conservators who seek the
highest level of durability, permanence, and aesthetics.

This change from rags to less stable wood pulp, alongside an increased use of fillers such as
bleach and optical brighteners, resulted in a vastly inferior paper than the handmade paper of
preceding centuries.
While the materials rather than the method of production ultimately determine the quality and
longevity of any paper, handmade paper exhibits many desirable qualities that can only be
emulated in machine made paper with difficulty, if at all. Some of these qualities can be
attributed to physical differences between handmade and machine made papers. The
unidirectional movement of the belt of the papermaking machine, for example, results in a
strong grain direction of the paper fibers. In handmade paper, on the other hand, the vat man
typically shakes the mould in four directions, so the resulting sheet displays little to no grain
direction (Hunter 455). As a result of this difference, handmade paper is said to have a drape or
flow that is unmatched by machine made paper (Meirhusby 62). Much of the draw of handmade
paper, however, involves the much more subjective aesthetic character of each sheet of paper.
Silvie Turner summarizes this quality as the beauty, the vitality, the depth, the design, the character
and expressiveness, the level of skill involved, the difference of a handmade sheet (Turner 41),
while Walter Hamady calls it simply voice (Vander Weele). No matter how you describe it in
words, handmade paper shows

The Religious Beliefs Of Guru Nanak Dev Ji
Guru Nanak Dev Ji formed the monotheistic faith, Sikhism in the fifteenth century (Sikh Beliefs,
n.d.). Sikhs believe that Guru Nanak Dev Ji, along with the following nine Gurus, was sent by God
himself to deliver His message (Sikh Beliefs, n.d.). In addition, Sikhs believe that a single spirit
inhabited all ten Gurus (McLeod, 2017). Furthermore, beliefs include that upon the death of the
10th, Guru Gobind Singh, the spirit of the eternal Guru transferred itself into the scripture of
Sikhism(McLeod, 2017).
Like Christianity, Sikhism recognizes that there is only one God; however, Sikhs believe that a
believer s salvation depends on their mystical union with God (Brodd, 2015). Although some
mystical concept of God is present within Christian belief, such as Saint Teresa of Avila, for the
most part, Christian s maintain a clear cut distinction between God as Creator and human beings as
one of God s creations (Brodd, 2015). Furthermore, Sikhs view God as shapeless, timeless, and
sightless while Christians maintain an image of Jesus as the God (Sikhism vs Christianity, 2010).
Religious views of the purpose of life also contrast. Sikhs lifestyle was created by Sikh Guru.
Overall, Sikhism has based on the teachings of Guru Nanak Dev as well as the following nine
gurus (Sikhism vs Christianity, 2010). Teachings are compiled within the Holy Book known as the
Guru Granth Sahib, which serves Sikhs eternal guru (Sikhism vs Christianity, n.d.). In addition,

Rhetorical Devices Used in Queen Elizabeth s Speech
Through her speech, Queen Elizabeth inspired her people to fight for the country of England
against the Spaniards. Queen Elizabeth persuaded the English troops to defend their country with
rhetoric devices such as diction, imagery, and sentence structure to raise their morale and gain
loyalty as a woman in power.
Queen Elizabeth skillfully used diction throughout her speech to motivate the troops. In the speech,
Queen Elizabeth used the word we four times to underscore her feeling of unity between her and her
country. She conveyed her care about the welfare of everyone in the country. This inspired the
soldiers to remain patriotic and want to fight for their nation. In addition, the queen refered to the
soldiers as noble and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The whole phrase justified that she is, in fact, a strong leader, both politically and militaristically
regardless of her being a woman. This phrase would help the queen gain respect from the
soldiers who may not have respected her high position before because of her gender. In the same
sentence, Queen Elizabeth uses a hyperbole to describe how much she cared for her country of
England. She said, I myself will take up arms . She, of course, had no intent to physically engage
in the war along with the troops, but she was trying to depict the image of herself to the soldiers
saying that she was willing to do anything for the sake of England. This convinced the troops that
they should do the same. The queen s excellent use of imagery instilled respect for herself from the
troops and inspired them to go to war.
Queen Elizabeth expertly used sentence structure to instill confidence in the troops to fight the
Spaniards and gain trust. In the speech, the queen used parallel structure to compare herself to a
king, or man in power. She said that she has the body of a weak and feeble woman, but a strong
heart of a king. The usage of parallel structure brought to light that even though she may not be
physically able, she still cared about the well being of her people just as a king would. She
conveyed the message that the people s respect towards her should be no different than that directed
towards a king. In addition, Queen Elizabeth

Philosophy During the 1930 s What significant changes occurred in the field of Philosophy during
the 1930s?
Philosophy is not just the intellectual activity that people engage in, but it is a subject matter worth
studying. The word philosophy comes from two words; philein which means love and soph
wisdom, having this in mind, philosophy can be defined as the love of wisdom. Philosophy is not a
single subject which is unified but it can be subdivided into small fields that include logic, ethics,
political, aesthetics, epistemology and metaphysics and other small groupings. Philosophy has
continued to change over the years and this paper will intelligently discuss various changes that
have happened in different subfields of philosophy. The paper will also document the implications
that these changes has brought in the field of philosophy.
Naturalism theory was declined in the 1930 s. Naturalism believed that all beings and events in this
world are natural. Naturalism denies the existence of supernatural realities. Naturalism encountered
a great vogue in 1930 when many critics came up against its beliefs. During this period, Rahv,
Trilling and Cowley came up with critics against this concept (Purcell, 2013). These philosophers

Detective Job Application Essay
One job that I have always been interested in is becoming a Detective for the FBI. I ve watched
so many shows on what the detectives do and how they handle the crimes. There are different
kinds of detectives that you can become. It would be an interesting job to do. I would get to
experience different crimes and work with different people. The cool thing about this job is that
some of the head offices get to travel and work. Also, it would be a great chance to see how other
states control their community when something happens. Detectives get the chance to save people
s lives and take in the bad, if they get them. Becoming part of the team is like getting adopted and
everyone becomes your family.
Detectives normally begin their career as police officers before being promoted to a detective. The
police academy would give you experience on how to handle a firearm. Some of the things that
the police and detectives do can be very dangerous. They age to start out is at 21 years old and
have to be physically active. FBI agents need to know how to do CPR and first aid in case of an

The Qin dynasty was the most abridged dynasty ever in Ancient China but even though that,
Emperor Qin is the most paramount man who has lived in Ancient China. You may think he came

meant that unifying China made them stronger and easier to cope with, the reason the states had
wars was that they wanted to prove how supreme they were but since the states were united no one

Furthermore, Emperor Qin Shi Huangdi had the idea of building the Great Wall of China. Facts
show that he thought The Great Wall of China would ward off evil spirits and stop raiders from

Emperor Qin Shi Huangdi the Qin dynasty was involved in fights with the Xiongnu tribe, but he

Gender Labeling In Society
The environment in which a person grows up in and the people that surround them often times
have a lasting impact on them on who they are as a person and how they interact with others as
well as how they view themselves as. Society often contributes greatly in the way a person
identifies themselves by labeling them as either male or female. This labeling process begins by
the time the child is born and they are given the labelof being a boy or a girl based on their
appearance. Labels are put upon a personthroughout their entire life, depending on who they are as
a person, the way they act, what they believe in, and the way they interact with others. The role of

There are many labels that make up a person, whether it be gender wise, religion, ethnicity, or
something they are good at, but the ones that stick out the most are the ones that society imposes on
them. As individuals, once we are given a certain label, we start to believe it and begin acting upon
it. Oftentimes it may go to extremity where the individual begins to lose their own identity in
attempts to fulfill a different one. If the individual is told that they are very fashionable, they
may start to buy the latest trends in the fashion industry despite the price just to fulfill this label.
Labels may stray from the individual, but the ones that forever remain are the ones where a well
respected individual lays it upon them. In On Being Sane in Insane Places (1973), David L
Rosenhan performs an experiment in which eight sane people are evaluated and are able to get
admitted to a psychiatric ward as pseudopatients. While in there, they acted the way they
normally did but were disregarded by staff members based on the label that was imposed on
them. It took a while for the employees to realize that they were mentally sane, but because they
were admitted as pseudopatients, everything else about them was disregarded. Once a person is
designated abnormal, all of his other behaviors and characteristics are colored by that label,
(1973:54). Rosenhan also says that the labels given by mental health professionals are just as
influential on the patient as they are on their family and friends to the extent where they eventually
begin to accept their diagnosis and behave accordingly to it,

Martin Luther And John Calvin Views On Sinful People
Martin Luther and John Calvin В Views on Sinful People
Justification by faith (Sola Fide), the core value of the Reformation, is the belief that
righteousness from God is a recompense for sinner s accounts through faith alone. The sixteenth
century movement for the reform of abuses in the Roman Catholic Church resulted in the
establishment of the Reformed and Protestant Churches. Reformers like Martin Luther and John
Calvin were two of the most significant figures in the history of The Reformation. They both
proclaimed Justification as the main subject of the gospel of God s grace. They were well
acknowledged for their common doctrines of salvation as the deliverance from sin and its
consequences. They believed that to be brought ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
To compare Martin Luther s and John Calvin s view on the subject of a sinful person, I
thoroughly looked into their common doctrines and considered how they differ in implementing
the rules that manage their ideology. I was able to conclude that even though Luther and Calvin
shared similar doctrines, their conceptualization and interpretation of those doctrines is very
different. Based on their opinions of sinners, I further realized that not only do they have divergent
interpretations of similar doctrines, but they also have different ambitions and their personalities
are extreme opposites.
Luther often blamed the flesh, which Protestants refer to as our sinful nature (they
believed is the cause of human impurities), for the sins of every human and he gave credit to the
Spirit for every good things that man does. The Reformers and the Protestants believe that there
are two types of spirits: the Holy Spirit, which they proclaim to be the spirit of God, and the human
spirit, which is the part of humans that opens up to the spirit of God. The spirit that is often
refereed to when talking about the flesh is the human spirit (what does the Bible mean by the
flesh by Msgr. Charles Pope). We might argue that Luther is trying not to be judgmental, that he
acknowledged the fact that efforts to live a sinВfree life is a mere dream, and the best approach to

Racism In Trethewey s Native Guard
In Trethewey s Native Guard, graves symbolize of the futility of mankind s efforts to conceal its
evils, and of failure to combat the racist system put in place by white America. For years,
Trethewey s mother fought to protect her daughter from the hatred and prejudice in America.
Her protest against the hatred of America was snuffed out by abusive partners and the nascent
racism of America. In the poem Graveyard Blues, she describes the atmosphere of the graveyard
as blues y and dreary. She wander[s] now among names of the dead: My mother s name, stone

The Discovery Of North America
The discovery of North America sparked a new era of exploration, expansion, and colonization.
Many European countries took the opportunity to develop a new territory where they could prosper
financially and benefit their home country as much as possible. The trip overseas was strenuous, as
was maintaining positive relationships with Native Americans and running a successful colony.
Although all European countries who showed interest in establishing territories in the Americashad
their own reasons for doing so, some countries did a better job executing their colonizing than
others. Britain, France, and Spain were the three most successful countries in terms of colonizing a
new land for their country.
The Spanish were amongst the best explorers at the time, establishing settlements in Hispaniola and
Mexico. They were looking for wealth, power, and to expand their territory. An explorer named
Hernan Cortes invaded the massive Native empire of the Aztecs, which was far richer and larger
than any town in Spain. When invited into the city, Cortes sought to conquer, enslave and steal
from the wealthy city. By forming many alliances with Native tribes who hated the Aztecs, the
Spanish overtook the city, showing no mercy towards their enemies. They enslaved those they didn
t kill, and disassembled some of the former Aztec pyramids into Christian Cathedrals. Cortes was
eventually named governor of Mexico after his victory. The Spanish had more urban establishments

Centervale Police Patrol
All police departments grapple with the challenge of allocating their limited resources to meet to
meet law enforcement needs of the communities they serve. Crucial to alleviating the cost
pressures the departments face is patrol force allocation. Most of the budgets go to salaries and
expenses, such as fringe benefits, which mean that increases in personnel utilization efficiencies
would result in dollar savings. As such, it is the duty of policechiefs to determine what the patrols
will look like regarding when and where the patrols will take place. This paper, thus, seeks to
outline how the Centervale Police Department should allocate patrol resources to best serve the
needs of Centervale.
Patrols are meant to eliminate criminal opportunities by creating an impression of presence in the
community. However, patrols do not decrease an individual s desire to break the law but by
diminishing the opportunities to commit crime, they promote a sense of safety to residents. As the
assistant chief in the Centervale Police Department, CPD, one would develop a strategy that caters

The Wood Duck Thesis
James Thurber s The Wood Duck , published in 1936, splits nature into multiple recognizable
pieces, some to be hunted and used for human gain, while others are to be left alone for a distant
enjoyment, like merciful gods gazing down upon a simple, weak being. Death would be easy for
the small being, is easy, and yet it lives and so it is treasured as a small entertainment. The Wood
Duck , rather than take an obvious stance against or for humanindustrialization and what it does to
the ecosystems that share our small blueish planet, instead brings to light the jarring contradiction
in which humans live with nature as both aggressors and innocently curious viewers of a nature
that is forced to adapt to survive in a world humans had vitally... Show more content on

Without this bonding and recognizable worth, nature and the beings within it act as little more than
a blended setting rather than each having individual worth in themselves. Only the hunters, who
were recognized as going out and purposefully killing other creatures for sport, felt any amount of
internal conflict when presented with the duck s possible death by a car. They, too, had bonded
with the duck in some way so that it no longer fell into the same category as other ducks, that of
possible prey, but into a category similar to their own dog and thus out of bounds to kill
intentionally. When faced with the sudden possible death, the hunters felt embarrassed and self
conscious , probably due to the fact that they had been jarred into self reflection and realized what
they had unintentionally done by subconsciously declaring the farmer s wood duck as somehow
different from the ones they were possibly looking forward to hunting in the repopulated forest
nearby (2). To them the duck had been granted a brief level of importance, like a pet, which had
then been taken back once the fowl had died and resembled the very birds they had been looking
forward to hunting later. Nature, similarly to how the hunters viewed the wood duck, was only
not allowed to be killed or torn away or buried under oil stained concrete when and if it reflected a
worth given to it by a human being. Without that reflected worth it held no possible reason to not
be hunted or smothered by man made products, as only then once it had been hunted or turned into
something useful could it be recognized as having a worth. On one side of the story there is an
inquisitive narrator, his wife, and a relatively friendly farmer who view the duck and thus nature as

Claude Monet And Impressionism
Claude Monet is one of the most classic examples of an impressionist artist. Impressionism
originated in France in the 1860 s. It is characterized by visible brush strokes and a focus on
light, texture, and colors rather than looking realistic. Impressionist paintings are extremely
easy to recognize and often elicit strong emotions of tranquility and warmth. Monet had a life
full of ups and downs which shaped his artwork and his paintings and life have also influenced
my own personal style. Monet lived an interesting life full of hardships which inspired his
paintings. He was born in Paris, France on November 14, 1840. At an early age, Monet hated
being confined to the classroom and would rather spend his time being outside or filling
notebooks with drawings. He found support in his artistic efforts from his mother and therefore
was greatly upset by her death in 1857. Monet became well known for his drawings of people
around town and attracted the attention of a local landscape artist, Eugene Boudin. Boudin
introduced Monet to incorporating nature into his art and to painting outside, which would later

II. Media Bubble World
Truman lives a humble life and has a genuine heart, but little does he know, he lives in an
artificial world where he is surrounded by over 5,000 hidden cameras that have been placed all
throughout the island that is enclosed in a giant dome set up. Truman doesn t even know that
people are watching his daily life around the globe 24 hours. He has been the star of the show

down from the sky. He wonders what is that thing for a while but then brushes it off of his mind.
And the next day, he heard in the radio news that the unidentified fallen object that he saw was
actually a part of a plane. This shows how the producers of the show made up a story so that
Truman would maintain his reality about his

Researchers have consistently found that pleasure reading increases throughout childhood and begins to decline, usually at age twelve to thirteen. Howard, V. (2009). Even fewer still have explored the role that reading for pleasure plays in the lives of young teens. Public libraries focus simultaneously on improving services to teen patrons and to pleasure readers of all ages as key to strategies to maintain importance and competitive advantage in the age of Google. • 4. The Human Relations Movement Of George Elton Mayo Managers throughout history have been interested in studying ways to increase productivity. For example, Frederick Taylor began the movement of scientific management in the 1880 s. Scientific management looked to improve productivity through means of scientific analysis of worker s tasks and work processes rather than the old rule of thumb (Taylor, 1914). Taylor believed that he could maximize worker efficiency and productivity through focusing on workers specific hand motions and patterns. After this period, beginning in about the 1930 s, managers looked to take productivity to yet another level by studying worker physiology and motivation. This new movement came to be known as the human relations movement. George Elton Mayo is credited with founding the human relations movement. Mayo conducted an experiment in the 1920 s and 1930 s know as the Hawthorne study. Two of the main aspects of the study centered around illumination in the work place and varying levels of break time and work hours (WickstrГ¶m, 2000). The illumination study consisted of four different experiments over the course of three years. In each experiement, there was a control group and a study group. In the varying studies, the researchers experimented with varying levels of light and varying sequences of increasing and decreasing the level of light ( Hawthorne effect). From when we first meet her to her suicide, Jocasta has shown admirable qualities, especially for a woman. In the play, Jocasta portrays a strong will and sense of defiance through her demeanor and thoughts. She had learned that there is no way to escape the prophecies that were told to them, so took matters into her own hands by deciding to end her life. Jocasta refuses to let people, even the Gods, take control of her life and in the end she had the final say to her life thought it led to her demise. Auden is a poem is about death and grief. It was originally written as a satirical poem about the death of a politician, though was later edited to become solemn. The poet effectively conveys aspects of change, such as the human condition in relation to the experience of loss. This is conveyed through tone, metaphors, imagery and anaphora. The aspect of the human condition and our response to loss is expressed through the tone of the poem. The tone is an example of how of how a person would react and treat the world around when they lose someone. An imperative tone is created through the diction of verbs. In the first stanza, the ... In the last stanza, the narrator orders that the metaphysical be taken away. The verbal commands, such as dismantle and sweep , have negative connotations to them and therefore assert how redundant life now seems for the person. Hyperbole and personification is used to indicate how difficult it can be to come to terms with loss and how alone one can feel. The hyperbolic orders in stanza four to take away the features of space and earth, such as pack up the moon... , which is impossible, is indicative that the narrator has not yet come to terms with the change. The absence of the objects producing light, such as the stars... , which are expressed through the visual imagery creates a sense of increasing darkness which is parallel to the absence and loneliness experienced by the narrator. This is just a rude gesture to whistle at a women, however we wouldn t brutally murder them. What also surprised me was how they killed him. The murderers did not have to savagely kill him. At the same time, the advances of both contemporary hand papermakers and modern technology have merged this tradition with innovation to create paper of unsurpassed beauty and quality. Despite the speed and economic advantages of machine made paper, traditional handmade paper grasps its hold on the modern world, and mills across North America and Western Europe have re emerged to produce fine handmade papers for artists, bookmakers, and conservators who seek the highest level of durability, permanence, and aesthetics. Hand papermaking in the Western world fell into decline ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This change from rags to less stable wood pulp, alongside an increased use of fillers such as bleach and optical brighteners, resulted in a vastly inferior paper than the handmade paper of preceding centuries. While the materials rather than the method of production ultimately determine the quality and longevity of any paper, handmade paper exhibits many desirable qualities that can only be emulated in machine made paper with difficulty, if at all. Some of these qualities can be attributed to physical differences between handmade and machine made papers. The unidirectional movement of the belt of the papermaking machine, for example, results in a strong grain direction of the paper fibers. In handmade paper, on the other hand, the vat man typically shakes the mould in four directions, so the resulting sheet displays little to no grain direction (Hunter 455). As a result of this difference, handmade paper is said to have a drape or flow that is unmatched by machine made paper (Meirhusby 62). Much of the draw of handmade paper, however, involves the much more subjective aesthetic character of each sheet of paper. Silvie Turner summarizes this quality as the beauty, the vitality, the depth, the design, the character and expressiveness, the level of skill involved, the difference of a handmade sheet (Turner 41), while Walter Hamady calls it simply voice (Vander Weele). Based on their opinions of sinners, I further realized that not only do they have divergent interpretations of similar doctrines, but they also have different ambitions and their personalities are extreme opposites. Luther often blamed the flesh, which Protestants refer to as our sinful nature (they believed is the cause of human impurities), for the sins of every human and he gave credit to the Spirit for every good things that man does. Racism In Trethewey s Native Guard In Trethewey s Native Guard, graves symbolize of the futility of mankind s efforts to conceal its evils, and of failure to combat the racist system put in place by white America. For years, Trethewey s mother fought to protect her daughter from the hatred and prejudice in America. Her protest against the hatred of America was snuffed out by abusive partners and the nascent racism of America. In the poem Graveyard Blues, she describes the atmosphere of the graveyard as blues y and dreary. She wander[s] now among names of the dead: My mother s name, stone pillow for my head, her mother s name now only a marker of her lifetime of suffering. Not only a problem in Trethewey s time, racism and inherent discrimination was an issue for even the African American heroes of the Civil War, the Native Guard receive no recognition from the historians of the fort or the Daughters of the Confederacy. • 34. The Discovery Of North America The discovery of North America sparked a new era of exploration, expansion, and colonization. Many European countries took the opportunity to develop a new territory where they could prosper financially and benefit their home country as much as possible. The trip overseas was strenuous, as was maintaining positive relationships with Native Americans and running a successful colony. Although all European countries who showed interest in establishing territories in the Americashad their own reasons for doing so, some countries did a better job executing their colonizing than others. Britain, France, and Spain were the three most successful countries in terms of colonizing a new land for their country. The Spanish were amongst the best explorers at the time, establishing settlements in Hispaniola and Mexico. They were looking for wealth, power, and to expand their territory. An explorer named Hernan Cortes invaded the massive Native empire of the Aztecs, which was far richer and larger than any town in Spain. When invited into the city, Cortes sought to conquer, enslave and steal from the wealthy city. By forming many alliances with Native tribes who hated the Aztecs, the Spanish overtook the city, showing no mercy towards their enemies. They enslaved those they didn t kill, and disassembled some of the former Aztec pyramids into Christian Cathedrals. Cortes was eventually named governor of Mexico after his victory. Crucial to alleviating the cost pressures the departments face is patrol force allocation. Most of the budgets go to salaries and expenses, such as fringe benefits, which mean that increases in personnel utilization efficiencies would result in dollar savings. As such, it is the duty of policechiefs to determine what the patrols will look like regarding when and where the patrols will take place. This paper, thus, seeks to outline how the Centervale Police Department should allocate patrol resources to best serve the needs of Centervale. Patrols are meant to eliminate criminal opportunities by creating an impression of presence in the community. However, patrols do not decrease an individual s desire to break the law but by diminishing the opportunities to commit crime, they promote a sense of safety to residents. • 39. The Wood Duck Thesis James Thurber s The Wood Duck , published in 1936, splits nature into multiple recognizable pieces, some to be hunted and used for human gain, while others are to be left alone for a distant enjoyment, like merciful gods gazing down upon a simple, weak being. Death would be easy for the small being, is easy, and yet it lives and so it is treasured as a small entertainment. The Wood Duck , rather than take an obvious stance against or for humanindustrialization and what it does to the ecosystems that share our small blueish planet, instead brings to light the jarring contradiction in which humans live with nature as both aggressors and innocently curious viewers of a nature that is forced to adapt to survive in a world humans had vitally... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Without this bonding and recognizable worth, nature and the beings within it act as little more than a blended setting rather than each having individual worth in themselves. Only the hunters, who were recognized as going out and purposefully killing other creatures for sport, felt any amount of internal conflict when presented with the duck s possible death by a car. They, too, had bonded with the duck in some way so that it no longer fell into the same category as other ducks, that of possible prey, but into a category similar to their own dog and thus out of bounds to kill intentionally. When faced with the sudden possible death, the hunters felt embarrassed and self conscious , probably due to the fact that they had been jarred into self reflection and realized what they had unintentionally done by subconsciously declaring the farmer s wood duck as somehow different from the ones they were possibly looking forward to hunting in the repopulated forest nearby (2). To them the duck had been granted a brief level of importance, like a pet, which had then been taken back once the fowl had died and resembled the very birds they had been looking forward to hunting later. Nature, similarly to how the hunters viewed the wood duck, was only not allowed to be killed or torn away or buried under oil stained concrete when and if it reflected a worth given to it by a human being. Without that reflected worth it held no possible reason to not be hunted or smothered by man made products, as only then once it had been hunted or turned into something useful could it be recognized as having a worth. On one side of the story there is an inquisitive narrator, his wife, and a relatively friendly farmer who view the duck and thus nature as something tangible and possibly ... • 40. Claude Monet And Impressionism Claude Monet is one of the most classic examples of an impressionist artist. Impressionism originated in France in the 1860 s. It is characterized by visible brush strokes and a focus on light, texture, and colors rather than looking realistic. Impressionist paintings are extremely easy to recognize and often elicit strong emotions of tranquility and warmth. Monet had a life full of ups and downs which shaped his artwork and his paintings and life have also influenced my own personal style. Monet lived an interesting life full of hardships which inspired his paintings. He was born in Paris, France on November 14, 1840. At an early age, Monet hated being confined to the classroom and would rather spend his time being outside or filling notebooks with drawings. He found support in his artistic efforts from his mother and therefore was greatly upset by her death in 1857. Monet became well known for his drawings of people around town and attracted the attention of a local landscape artist, Eugene Boudin. Boudin introduced Monet to incorporating nature into his art and to painting outside, which would later become one of Monet s most used techniques. In 1859 Monet moved to Paris to enroll in the Academie Suisse art school. Monet s paintings were selected to be shown at an important art show in Paris called the Salon. One of the paintings shown was Woman in Green which featured his lover, later wife, Camille Doncieux. Despite Monet s small amount of success and notoriety as a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
