StreamRoot is a peer-to-peer video delivery solution for live and video-on-demand (VOD) streaming. It uses WebRTC to enable direct peer-to-peer connections between browsers for streaming video content. This reduces bandwidth costs by up to 90% compared to solely using a content delivery network (CDN). Tech Talk by Peng Li: Open Mobile Networks with NFV
Synopsis
Applications are moving to mobile. This talk is about upcoming future of the mobile networks, key technology enabler and how to build your application and service on top of next generation mobile networks. Peng will describe the mobile network trend and why openness will play a critical role going forward. He will also present example of the NFV enabled mobile network architecture, its building blocks and use cases, and introduce Huawei's Open Mobile Foundry platform as a real world example to share some of our valuable experiences in this field with all. This talk will cover both flavors of open source projects (OPNFV, OpenStack, ONOS and ODL) as well as commercial products (Huawei's cloudEdge solution).
About Peng Li
Peng Li is a Network Architect and Ecosystem Partnership Manager for Huawei's wireless BU. He has extensive experience on SDN, NFV, network architecture and network protocols. He has spent all his professional career so far on computer networking, mainly with Amber/Nokia networks and Foundry/Brocade before joining Huawei. He co-implemented the industry first full redundancy BGP protocol, and had many years of experience in network protocol development and engineering management for flagship data center routers. Peng has Master's in Computer Engineering from USC, and Bachelor's in EE from Tsinghua University, China.

DDOS Mitigation Experience from IP ServerOne by CL Lee
IP ServerOne is a Malaysian data center provider that manages over 4500 physical servers across 5 data centers. They experience 2-5 DDoS attacks per day, mostly ranging from 4.5-8.9 Gbps. To detect attacks, they use netflow to monitor traffic patterns and flag abnormal packet rates to single IPs. When an attack is detected, traffic is rerouted to on-premise filtering devices in less than 90 seconds to scrub attacks while allowing legitimate traffic. IP ServerOne advocates a hybrid mitigation approach using their own infrastructure alongside cloud-based protection.

The current IT infrastructure as well as various
commercial applications are directly formulated based on
deployment in multimedia system e.g. education, marketing,
risk management, tele-medicines, military etc. One of the
challenges found in using such application is to deliver
uninterrupted stream of video between multiple terminals
e.g. smart-phone, PDAs, laptops, IPTV etc. The research shows
that there is a stipulated need of designing novel mechanism
of bit rate adjustment as well as format conversion policy so
that the source stream may stream well in diverse end devices
with multiple configuration of processor, memory, decoding
etc. This paper discusses various eminent points from
literature that will throw better highlights in understanding
a schema of direct digital-to-digital data conversion of one
encoding to another termed as transcoding. Although
multimedia transcoding has covered more than a decade in
the area of research, but unfortunately, there is a huge trade-
off between the application, service, resource constraint, and
hardware design that gives rise to QoS issues.

WebRTC

In this talk we’ll look at the ways Apache Thrift can solve performance problems commonly facing next generation applications deployed in performance sensitive capital markets and banking environments. The talk will include practical examples illustrating the construction, performance and resource utilization benefits of Apache Thrift. Apache Thrift is a high-performance cross platform RPC and serialization framework designed to make it possible for organizations to specify interfaces and application wide data structures suitable for serialization and transport over a wide variety of schemes. Due to the unparalleled set of languages supported by Apache Thrift, these interfaces and structs have similar interoperability to REST type services with an order of magnitude improvement in performance. Apache Thrift services are also a perfect fit for container technology, using considerably fewer resources than traditional application server style deployments. Decomposing applications into microservices, packaging them into containers and orchestrating them on systems like Kubernetes can bring great value to an organization; however, it can also take a very fast monolithic application and turn it into a high latency web of slow, resource hungry services. Apache Thrift is a perfect solution to the performance and resource ills of many microservice based endeavors.

- Mobility poses issues for signaling as users' IP addresses may change when hopping networks, disrupting existing connections.
Cleaning Up the Dirt of the Nineties - How New Protocols are Modernizing the Web

Real-time Communications with SignalR

A data warehouse is a central relational database that contains all measurements about a business or an organisation. This data comes from a variety of heterogeneous data sources, which includes databases of any type that back the applications used by the company, data files exported by some applications, or APIs provided by internal or external services.
But designing a data warehouse correctly is a hard task, which requires gathering information about the business processes that need to be analysed in the first place. These processes must be translated into so-called star schemas, which means, denormalised databases where each table represents a dimension or facts.

The introduction of DLAU and the CCB & CCX licensing model caused quite a stir in the HCL community. As a Notes and Domino customer, you may have faced challenges with unexpected user counts and license costs.
