High School Football Athletes Essay
The mindset that society thrusts upon most high school athletes can take away from academics
and other opportunities they may have for their future. For many high school football athletes,
they are primarily focused on one thing throughout their high school years: sports. Evidence 1:
In towns such as Odessa in Friday Night Lights, players are swallowed up by the glamour of
football and neglect most things not related to football, rather than balance sports with academics.
It was a phenomenon that Trapper had seen dozens of times before, a kid so caught up in it all
that there was no room for anything else, another kid for whom nothing in life would ever be so
glorious, so fulfilling as playing high schoolfootball. Trapper didn t see the... Show more content on

When they focus too much on football or whatever sport they are playing, than their grades falter,
and they lose their chance to get a solid degree. One student that broke the trap that high school
athletes fall into is Brian Chavez, a student at Permian High School in Friday Night Lights. As the
number one student in his class, his aspirations extended far beyond the glimmer of expectation
that a Texas school, any Texas school, might be willing to give him a football scholarship. He
had set his sights differently, zeroing in on a target that seemed incomprehensible to his family,
his friends, just about everyone. He wanted to go to Harvard (Bissinger 13). Chavez is
essentially the antithesis of all his peers and classmates; instead of making football the high point
of his entire life, he values his future and education over the present glory of football. Despite
being pressured into setting aside his future dreams in order to better the team, he does not fall
into the trap his society had set for him. Chavez ended up enjoying Permien football as well as
going to Harvard, so he is the prime example of how high school athletes should carry themselves.
But unfortunately, it is extremely tough for most athletes in towns such as Odessa or Winthrop to
do so. High school football encapsulates their entire lives, and the pressure put

12 Angry Men Psychology
There are many examples of social psychology illustrated in the movie Twelve Angry Men
directed by Sidney Lumet. This film takes place around the 1950 s and jurors have to choose
whether or not a man will be charged innocent or guilty on the murder of his dad. In the beginning
of the film, only eleven of the twelve men choose to plead guilty. Then shortly after a strong
debate, the jurors begin to change their minds to charging the boy as innocent. This movie shows
strong examples of social psychology through aggression, group process and conformity. This
analysis will explain some of these social psychological examples in much more detail.
Conformity
Conformity is the way people change their behaviors so that they can fit in or follow the ... Show

For example, aggression is shown when the jury is discussing who has changed their mind on the
vote. Some and even most of the jurors are mad because one of the others is trying to explain
why he s changed his mind on voting non guilty. Many of the examples of aggression come from
the frustration of the jury against each other. There is a moment when a switchblade acts as a
sign of aggression by one of the jurors showing one how to use it properly showing that the boy
was aware of how to use the blade. Some of the scenes where the jury is discussing why or why
not the boy should be proven guilty or non guilty show conform to support the social
psychological example of aggression in this film. Several examples of group process are also
shown throughout this film. Group polarization is when a group discusses something that will
strengthen the main point of a subject, which is an example of a group process. This normally
leads towards a negative shift in decisions. Twelve Angry Men shows these processes but only with
ridicule by Fonda and his allies. Group process includes things like group polarization, social
compensation, groupthink and social loafing. Another example of group process shown in this film
is All of these are examples shown throughout the movie Twelve Angry

The Prevention Of Juvenile Delinquency
In 2012 the United States, juveniles between the age of 10 to 17 population is 33,248,000 and of
that 1,319,700 total arrests (Puzzanchera and Kang, 2014). The crimes are then split into three
categories: Violent Crime index, Property Crime Index, and Non Index. The number of juveniles
arrested for Violent Crimeindex is 61,070 people, Property Crime Index is 295,400 and the non
index is 173,100 juveniles were arrested (Puzzanchera and Kang, 2014). Neglecting the prevention
of juvenile delinquencycosts the society $1.7 to $2.3 million dollars per juvenile (Calhoun, Glaser,
and Bartolomucci, 2001).
The justice system was blind to the age of the offender, until the twentieth century (Ramirez, 2008).

Restitution can be paid in either money or worked off with community service. Many juveniles
enter into the system threw referrals or petitions. Referrals is when they have broken a law and if
they were of majority would be put in jail. Juveniles can be referred to the court from teachers,
police, family, and any person that considers the juvenile to be breaking a law. A petition is a
document filed in the juvenile court which addresses the issues that the juvenile should appear in
court (Benekos, Champion, Merlo, 2013).
Mental illness is another issue that is not adequately being addressed. Many kids that are being
incarcerated are not getting the mental health treatment that they are needing. Countless families
are postponed from services due to the absence of obtainable mental health services (Barksdale,
Stephan, Westin, 2014). Many times Juveniles come into group homes and have not been taking
their medication because they have been on the run. Some families know that something is wrong
but are at a loss of how to get help or where they should turn to get help.
Problem # 1 Lack of Treatment When Rehabilitating Juveniles
Treatment is administered in the same way in most cases dealing with juveniles, which is
frustrating to many personal (Fritz, March 2010). Juveniles are all different and need to get

Screamo Band
Screamo evolved from emo hardcore punk, post hardcore music. It is characterized by a strong
influence from hardcore punk with the use of screamed vocals. Screamo evolved in the early
1990s. I chose this genre of music because the book did not cover it and the concept of screamo is
interesting to me. Screamo bands tend to scream their lyrics instead of singing them. Screamo music
is looked down on a lot because How is screaming talent? Screaming music has much more talent to
it than people think. Screaming musically takes much talent.
Typical instruments used in screamo music are vocals, electric guitar, bass guitar, and drums. These
instruments were typically used in hard rock and hardcore punk music. Electric guitar did not

Module 12 Nutrition And Health Essay
Module 12 discussed the form of energy used by the body and how to measure the used energy,
as well as discussing the causes and impacts of obesity. Energy comes in different forms, and
described by the first law of thermodynamics, energy can be converted from one form of energy
into another. Kilocalories are the form of energy found in food which is converted by the body
into the usable form of energy, ATP. Total energy expenditure is the amount of energy or
kilocalories a person needs to consume to maintain their body weight. The total energy expenditure
is the sum of the kilocalories lost or burned during daily activities, the basal metabolic rate and the
thermic effect of food. The basal metabolic rate is the amount of energy the body... Show more

Obesity is commonly measured by using the body mass index, however body weight, waist
circumference, and weight to height ratios are other measures that can be used to determine
obesity. Obesity can be caused by decrease physical activity, increased food intake, and genetic
determinants that can affect energy consumption and/or energy expenditure. Obesity can cause
various health problem which can include an increased risk of diabetes mellitus type II, hypertension
, high LDL, and cardiac disease. A nonmedical way to lose weight is to make the energy input
less than the energy output, so the body is not storing excess energy in the form of fat. The
approaches of weight loss modify the energy input by eating a lesser amount of food, taking a
drug to inhibit macronutrient absorption, surgically decreasing the size of the stomach, and/or by
taking a drug that suppresses the appetite. If weight is lost too quickly by drastically reducing the
amount of kilocalories consumed, then it can cause cardiac complications, excessive loss of
potassium and proteins from the body, increase uric acid which can cause gallstones, and sudden
death. When a person loses weight at a healthy rate, it can decrease the risk factors that are caused

Differences Between New England Settlers And Chesapeake...
When the English settled into the New World, they were split up into two sections, the Chesapeake
region and the New England region. Although the English settled both, the two regions were
severely different from each other when they were brought about. The New England and
Chesapeake colonies differed in three ways: their reason for venturing over, economy, and
population. These major differences were what shaped our nation today and what will continue
shaping our nation in the future. When the Mayflower sailed over to the New World, on the boats
were Puritans that were looking for a change in the way that their religion was practiced where the
Chesapeake settlers came over for gold. Alongside the Puritans were the Separatists who... Show

The gold was never found and the passage through America was given up in hopes of staying
alive. Because the Chesapeake settlers were too interested in gold, they did not settle down and
get ready for the harsh winters to come; leaving them unprotected to the fierce winter. The New
England settlers were settles and ready, but they did loose a few men to the bitter cold, however
not as many as the Chesapeake settlers did. The economy of the two regions also greatly
differed because of the terrain that they landed on. Because the land in the south was much more
fertile than in the north, the southern colonies thrived in rice and tobacco, profiting greatly. In
New England the settlers could not grow anything in the rocky terrain and were forced into
fishing, building, and farming. However, not much farming went on because of the infertile soil.
In the Chesapeake slaves were also a main part of their economy. The slave trade made them
very wealthy because of their closeness to the West Indies. They would be shipped many slaves
and then use them to harvest their crops and plant their land. Soon, the slaves outnumbered white
settlers by about four to one. When the English sailed over to the New World, there were only a
handful of them, that is, until slavery was introduced. While New England was almost all white
English settlers Chesapeake was made up of mostly African American slaves. In New England, the
need for slaves was not very high because of the

Substance Abuse And Its Effects
SUBSTANCE ABUSE Researchers state that almost half of individuals diagnosed with
schizophrenia in the United States also self medicate with alcohol and other drugs (Elements
Behavioral Health, 2014). This is suggested due to individuals attempting to lessen the symptoms
of their disorder. As discussed previously symptoms can include hearing and seeing things that
others don t hear or see, problems falling asleep or staying asleep and problems with concentration
and memory. In an effort to lessen these symptoms alcohol and other drugs are used to induce sleep
(NIMH, 2014). Research suggests that approximately fifty percent of individuals diagnosed with
schizophreniahave a co occurring substance abuse disorder. The most common used are alcohol,
marijuana and tobacco (Green, Drake, Brunette Noordsy, 2007) (Dube, 2012). In contrast to what
individuals diagnosed with schizophrenia think they may be achieving by using alcohol and other
drugs, research states that substance use may actually modify the dysfunction in the brain reward
center by increasing the symptoms (Green et.al, 2007). Self medicating with alcohol and other
drugs can often lead to disruptions in gaining access to treatment. Pharmacological treatment is seen
as one of the most effective ways to assist with symptom reduction, and using alcohol and other
drugs often interfere (MHA, n.d). Some research studies have proposed that when an individual
consumes any sort of mood altering substance, such as alcohol

The Swing Era
My audience was my life. What I did and how I did it, was all for my audience , these words came
from the well known and never forgotten Cab Calloway. His style and mix of blues, swing and
scat spread like wildfire and filled many peoples lives with joy, excitement and happiness. Cab
Calloway broke the boundaries of racial barriers and become a very popular and influential
household name. As stated in the JazzProfiles from NPR, A truly larger than life figure in American
pop culture...Calloway also led one of the greatest bands of the Swing Era (Ossman).
Cab Calloway arose from an era where racism against black jazz musicians was present and drug
addiction seemed to consume the majority of these musicians lives. It was no surprise that Cab
Calloway pursued a career as an entertainer. He grew up in a family that consisted of musicians
and performers, although it was expected that he would follow in his fathers foot steps and
become a lawyer. Around the mid to late 1920s Cab Calloway assembled his own band and they
were known as the Alabamians. Although his time with the Alabamians was short lived, he
eventually became bandleader of a big band called the Missourians. Cab Calloway and the
Missourians became an instant hit and sensation. They performed in popular clubs such as Savoy
Theater and The Cotton Club. As stated in the article Cab Calloway and The Cotton Club written
by Kinsley Suer, Cab quickly became so popular that his band, which had been

The Cruel Caricature Of Billy Budd
There is a trend in modern media criticism to scrutinize the leads of a romance and highlighting
the behaviors that could be interpreted as malicious. Rarely do these critics examine their own
past courting behavior, because if they had, surely they would see how even the most rational
minds are frayed when under the spell of infatuation. This is parallel to how the narrator of Billy
Budd, Sailor views the behavior of the character Master at Arms, John Claggart. Through many a
biblical reference and serpentine comparisons, the narrator of Billy Budd paints a vile portrait of
the Master at Arms. Yet when closely examining the text, the foul caricature of John Claggart is
nowhere to be found. What is present, is a man in love, who knows the consequences... Show more

It thrives in the characters as well, as even though Claggart is transparent in his affections for
Billy, he too must hide this aspect of himself, and the sorrow it brings him is just the beginning
of Claggart s tragic attraction to Billy. In his short essay on Billy Budd, Albert S. Braverman
notes how many hypothesize that Claggart s plot against Billy was due to his feelings towards
him. He then remarks that an overt attempt to seduce Billy might well have the same outcome
(Braverman Pg.1). If Billy Budd is a tragedy than Claggart s attraction to Billy is his fatal flaw.
For Claggart there is no way to dodge the consequences of his sexuality. Either action spells out
the end for he and Billy. This still assume malicious intent from Claggart, but when looking at the
text there are a few key moments which frame Claggart s plot in a different way. But, at heart
and not for nothing, as the late chance encounter may indicate to the discerning, down on him,
secretly down on him, he assuredly was (Pg. 82). Once again the narration betrays itself and ends
up revealing more of Claggart s sympathetic traits. The late chance encounter along with the phase
secretly down on him suggest that one of the many blockades between Claggart and Billy, is that
Claggart is tired of hiding his sexuality. If Claggart had met Billy as a younger man, he may have
been willing to risk pursing Billy, but as the late indicates Claggart no

definitely influenced my style. The off beats and the odd time signatures, he just fits so well with
the instrumental, and I just started playing like that (Rolling stone, 2015). As Charlie Andrews
explains in an interview with Sound on Sound, 2013, drummer Thom Green does not use
cymbals, The only slightly cymbal like thing he uses is the back end of a saucepan, which he uses
for the hi hat, and that in itself is quite a unique sound. That gives you a lot of space to mess
around with the room sound for the drums without the cymbals going all over it. Andrews also
mentions that the snare drum used is a tiny 10 inch thing that he possibly bought from the toy shop.
This allows the snare to have a good crack to it and then also with a little distortion, can make the
snare ring (2013, Sound on Sound). Buy using these kind of makeshift, minimalist drum sounds, it

Too much of the insecticides will allow acetylcholine to build up which would lead to convulsions
and eventually death.
2. Research in the early 1960s proved that high levels of DDT found in predatory birds were the
cause of the decrease in their populations. When the predatory birds came in contact with DDT,
their reproduction was directly affected. As a result of DDT s presence in the predatory bird s
body, the eggshells of these birds started to become slender. These eggshells become so thin that
whenever the mother bird would lie on the egg waiting for it to hatch, the eggs would break. Thus,
the predatory bird population had no means of increasing, since their reproduction was not
successful. Biological magnification had a large role to play in the decrease of the predatory bird
population. Spraying of DDT on vegetation led to contamination of the prey populations such as
fish. These prey started building large concentrations of DDT within their bodies. As a result, the
predatory birds also got contaminated, since they preyed upon contaminated animals.
3. With regards to the genetic makeup of target insect populations, heavy pesticideuse can alter

Avoiding Physical Punishment In Child Rearing Essay
Avoiding Physical Punishment In Child Rearing
Is sparing the rod spoiling or saving the child? Is violence, resentment, anger or fear worth the risk
taken when striking him or her. Whether your for or against using physical punishment in child
development, as a parent, you will someday have to face this issue. Many parents are taught this
method in their childhood, and are not aware of any other way. Often originating from religion,
physical or corporal punishment is seen as an important ingredient in child rearing. This tool is used
to accomplish total authority by the parent and to receive total submission from the child. Physical
punishment may be convenient and achieve temporary conformance, but produces negative results,

Teaching total authority by the parent, most Conservative Protestants use corporal punishment
today as their forefathers did. In Spare the Child, Philip Greven points out, Modern forms of
Christian Fundamentalism share the same obsessions with obedience to authority characteristic of
earlier modes of Evangelical Protestantism, and the same authoritarian streak evident among
seventeenth and eighteenth century Anglo American Evangelicals is discernible today, for
precisely the same reasons: the coercion of children through painful punishments in order to teach
obedience to divine and parental authority (198).
The idea many years ago is obvious, society felt that physical punishment was necessary for
obedience. With study and research over time, successful child rearing has changed to produce
better results. Dr. Benjamin Spock adds, In the olden days, most children were spanked, on the
assumption that this was necessary to make them behave. In the twentieth century, as parents and
professionals have studied children here and in other countries, they have come to realize that
children can be well behaved, cooperative, and polite without ever having been punished physically
(437). Realizing the impact this old fashioned method can have on a child, society is changing their
views on how we should discipline. We are moving away from intimidation and pain tactics to more
effective, positive methods.

between a father (Baba) and a son (Amir), and between two half brothers (Amir and Hassan). It
also talks about how they go about their guilt, and forgiveness as well as weathering the dogmatic

this essay will discuss the assertion that the novel would not exist without the class difference
between the brothers. The plot of the story obviously shows that Amir was a scion of a wealthy

Histone Code Hypothesis
The replacement of somatic histones with testis specific variants in early haploid germ cells is
undoubtedly an essential step for promoting chromatin remodeling during spermiogenesis, and it is
believed to involve the histone code. The histone code hypothesis proposes that combinations of
histone modification could serve as specific signals that recruit protein domains to alter chromatin
structure to either promote or suppress genetranscription (Turner, 2002). There is evidence for the
involvement of the histone code in chromatin remodeling as stage specific histone modifications
have been reported to occur during spermiogenesis, namely histone H4 acetylation, histone H3
methylation and phosphorylation, and histone H2A ubiquitination (Song... Show more content on

Protamines are 50 amino acid long, cysteine and arginine rich proteins that bind tightly to the
negative DNA backbone. As with TPs, PRMs are transcribed in round spermatids and only appear
in late spermiogenesis to complete chromatin condensation. Their positive charge stabilizes the
chromatin as it abolishes electrostatic repulsion between proximal chromatin strands, forming
toroids loops (Cho et al., 2003). Further chromatin compaction occurs during epididymal transit
during which PRMs form disulfide bridges between cysteine residues to form a semi crystalline
chromatin (Carrell et al., 2007). Two PRMs have been identified, PRM1 and PRM2, both of which
are present in human and mouse germ cells, but only PRM1 exists in the rat. There are two critical
differences dissociate the two protamines, both structurally and functionally. First, PRM2 binds
longer stretches of DNA, which renders the chromatin less compacted. Second, PRM2 coordinates
one zinc atom, which in the case of humans makes zinc deficiency an important issue (Balhorn,
2007). However, this difference does not make one PRM more essential than the other. In fact, the
PRMs must be present in equal ratio, as a change in this ratio leads to diminished semen quality and
low fertility potential in humans (Balhorn, 2007). Xenobiotics are chemicals that an organism is

The Role Of Aircrafts In World War One
World War One was a time of tremendous sadness and great innovation. One of the fruits of war
that can still be seen today is the airplane. At the time before the war, aircrafts were extremely
bulky and inefficient to a point where they served no purpose in war. Until one day in World
War 1 when everything changed forever. As BBC News stats For the British it all started on 13
August 1914 at 08:20, when Lieutenant H D Harvey Kelly landed the first Royal Flying Corps

Production Planning Report
Production Planning
Introduction
The intention of this project is to demonstrate the function of production planning in a non artificial
environment. Through this simulation we are able to forecast, with a degree of certainty the
monthly requirements for end products, subassemblies, parts and raw materials. We are supplied
with information that we are to base our decisions on. The manufacturer depicted in this
simulation was actually a General Electric facility that produced black and white television sets
Syracuse, New York. Unfortunately this plant is no longer operational, it was closed down and the
equipment was shipped off to China. One can only wonder if the plant manager would have taken

Next we calculate the labor that goes into transforming these parts into a viable end product. We
get a total of six hours of running man hours/unit and an hourly labor rate of $8.50, which gives us
a total of fifty one dollars. This gives a minimal total cost of
$101 to produce product one. This number is useful in determining how much a unit actually cost
to manufacture and what we must minimally sell the product for to make a profit. We can than
analyze if a product costs to much to make or the sum of the parts is more than the price of the end
product. Product eight had the lowest direct minimum cost ($89.50) and four had the highest
minimal direct cost. From a purely economic stand point, it would be beneficial to use as much of
raw material twenty three ($5 unit) and as little of raw material twenty two ($30 unit). This does
not consider that raw material twenty two may actually be more valuable than raw material
twenty three. Perhaps raw material twenty two may be gold or silver and raw material twenty
three may be sand or glass. I also converted all information in the sales history per month (figure
four of the MANMAN packet). The purpose of this step was so that I could sort and add the sales
numbers to chronicle the past twenty four months. Clearly product one was the best selling
apparatus, and product three, four and five where sales laggards. Entering the information into

The Importance of Voting
Importance of Voting Introduction The importance of voting is a fundamental aspect of a
democracy. The United States is a constitutional republic in which the population votes on who
represents them as their leaders. The populace votes on leaders in the legislative, judicial and
executive branches that serve in a plethora of different positions in the government. The people in
these positions will determine things like laws that are drafted that will help to shape the nation.
Some of the current issues that politicians may be deciding upon might be abortion, capital
punishment, gay rights, civil rights, among others. Furthermore, many of the higher offices
actually have the right to appoint various other representatives such as judges and justices. Since
the representatives will make decisions that will affect nearly everyone in the country, the
importance of voting on the representatives cannot be understated. Importance of Voting It can be
argued that voting for a candidate hardly ever makes a difference. For example, it is rare that
anyone of the elections is decided by one or two votes. Therefore, when someone votes for a
candidate and that individual wins or loses by a significant margin, something in the tens of
thousands or even in the millions, then voting for the candidate did not make a difference in the
election. This perspective is actually likely true in most situations. It is incredibly rare that an
election is ever decided by slim margin. It is

Richard Wright s Perspective Of The Sociological Imagination
In Wright s point of view, the sociological imagination allows us to understand history and
biography and the relation between this two within society. That is its task and its promise. Human
s life too connected to society; their lifestyle is whole society. In order to understand the human
society, we should look first the sociological imagination. It associated with the individual s
biography, history and tradition, personal troubles versus public issues, the social versus the
individual. The sociological imagination is an approach to sociology. Each of us has a place in the
world. We are all individuals in this world, then as we relate to one another, we grow, we develop.

Also, the most productive difference with which the sociological imagination works is between
personal troubles of human environment and the public issues of society . This theory is a part
of sociological imagination because of it features all classic work of the social science.
According to Wright Troubles occur within the character of the individual and within the range
of his immediate relations with others, it is a private matter: values cherished by an individual
are felt by him to be threatened. Problems have to do with troubles that go beyond these local
environments of the individual and the range of his interior life. An issue is a public problem:
some rate valued by publics is felt to be disappearing In order to frame issues and troubles, we
must question what values are prized yet threatened and what values are cherished and supported
by the characterizing developments of our period. We should experience whatever occurs in our
own lives as distinctive and isolated, and also to interpret what happens to other people as unique
and private to them. This is the explanation of personal

Additional sound has been added for the additions to the game. This is to add to the effect of the

A Narrative Criticism Of The Political Ideological Lens
The second criticism I enjoyed was looking at the political ideological lens. Also, having a BS in
Political Science with minors in International relations and Pre Law, this criticism fully caught my
attention. This lens focuses on the resistance of Jesus in his time to motivate Christians today to
stand against institutionalized power that often disenfranchises and demeans the opportunity to
obtain the American dream. When viewing the New Testament, we must be honest in evaluating
the aspects that do not contribute to public health. The issue of poverty and political culture as it
relates to the condition of the oppressed is always front and center. My first paper even though a
narrative criticism paper focused on the need for political expediency over the true application of
justice. This was demonstrated in Matthew 27: 11 26, where Jesusis brought before Pontius Pilate.
The purpose of this unit was to illuminate the affair between politicsand justice. The charge the
high priests brought against Jesus before Pontius Pilate displays that political expediency takes
precedence over justice. This unit is less about Jesus, partly due to his refusal to respond, and...

Globalization and the Art Market
The expression globalization is universal and loose. In any case, it is important to consider what it
implies for the craftsmanship market and the most extensive circle of aesthetic creation. According
to Manfred B. Steger s book, Globalization: A Very Short Introduction, the term globalization refers
to the expansion and intensification of social relations and consciousness across world time and
world space (Steger). In other words, globalization applies to an arrangement of social procedures
that seems to change our present social state of debilitating nationality into one of globalist. In the

China outranked United States as the biggest market globally and became the center of the art
market with a share of fortyfive percent in market sales in value (McAndrew).
According to Malcolm Bull, the two economies of the art world are: the economy of attention social
media, which provides ranked artists in terms of sales and the art market
frequency and location of exhibitions and the numbers who attend them; Popularity vs. income. In
order to survive in our media based society, new elites today are those who reap the benefits by
investing their attention capital to increase their accumulated attention stocks.
Once the reputation of the invested capitals like artists and exhibitions is established, the gallery
owner or the museum curator that lend their capital in the form of the exhibition space and its
associated cultural prestige to these invested capitals are able to receive a return in the form of
enhanced attention for the museum or gallery (Bull). Ultimately, well invested cultural capital will
increase in value through increased attention. Although there is no direct correlation between the
two economies, they cannot stand alone without one another in the art market.

Hair Blonde Stereotypes
Better Than a Blonde?
Do you think brunettes and redheads are superior? Well, think again. For years, blondes have been
associated with words such as dumb , needy , promiscuous and other unflattering adjectives. Even
with these unfortunate stereotypes, research proves that blondes may be the exact opposite. Those
with blonde hair are smarter, wealthier, and are genetically predispositioned to have attractive
qualities.
Blondes have been proven to be the most intelligent when compared to other hair shades. In a
study conducted by the Ohio State University where 10,878 females were surveyed, blonde
women enjoyed an average IQ of 103.2. Those with brown hair mustered a mere 102.7. Redheads
managed 101.2. And what s with black haired women? Theirs was an average IQ of 100.5
(Matyszezyk 2016). Blondes typically have a stigmatism associated with them, such as being dumb
and having little common sense. This stereotype often appears in the media, with numerous movies
focused around blonde women with little intelligence. While this doesn t automatically equate
directly to genetics, it can mean that blonde women are better set up for success. Research by the
National Longitudinal Survey of Youth shows that people with naturally blondhair were found to
have typically grown up in environments with more reading materials available to them, allowing
for more intellectual stimulation during their early growth period than people with other hair colors
had (Ricevuto 2016).

The Influence Of Female Fashion In The 1920 s
As female fashion in the Western world has evolved since through the 20th century, an exciting
feature has been the evolving exposure of skin. While arms and legs have had their share of
change in exposure and acceptance from early traditional fashion to modern fashion, the exposure
of the midriff has experienced controversy from the early 1900s to now. Midriff exposure has a
history worth looking into in understanding its popularity and prevalence in fashiontoday.
To begin exploration of the topic, the origins of the trend must be determined. Most sources agree
that Madeleine Vionnet officially introduced midriff exposure into high fashion in 1932 with her
haute couture dresses, intentionally cut to reveal the waist. While it was common to see
characters in films baring their midriffs, it was only common to see real women exposing their
midriffs at the beach with two piece bathing suits at this time and into the 1940s. It was not

In fact, more girls are gaining positivity through daring to bare their midriffs or even their
shoulders in defiance of illogical school dress codes and that more people are feeling liberated by

sexual revolution, but a part of a revolution of acceptance acceptance of gender equality, acceptance
of the beauty of all, and rejection of hate in all forms. Girls who were told to cover up for the
sake of not distracting boys in school or because they were told they were not pretty are now a
part of a positive movement in body love and appreciation. I believe this is a trend to stay,
especially as it was the focus of the Spring Summer 2015 Haute Couture Show by Chanel in Paris,
being brought back into high fashion as well as street

Childhood Is A Complex And Interesting Idea
Childhood is a complex and interesting idea to define. It can be viewed in a technical manner,
considering that childhood finishes at a certain age. Alternatively, childhood could be considered in
relation to experiences, expectations and societal views. There are many influences to consider
when defining childhoodand what determines a person s idea about childhood. In this discussion
paper I will be exploring some key ideas of childhood and thinking about this in the context of child
development.
Childhood could be viewed as socially constructed, it is difficult to define as every child is diverse
and has different influences, such as time, space and countries.
What is a child?
There are many ways of defining what a child is and all individuals have a different perspective.
Oxford dictionaries define a child as a young human being below the age of puberty or below the
legal age of majority
Oxford Dictionaries (2014). This statement does not define a child, as all children experience
puberty at different ages. For example, a child may have reached puberty by 13 years old, but
by law, they are still a child, as they are not able to vote, drive, drink alcohol or have sexual
intercourse. However, some holiday companies define adults as 12 years and over, therefore they
are classed as an adult within this organisation, despite being under age to take part in numerous
activities.
What is childhood?
Oxford dictionaries define childhood as the state or period of being a

Kazakhstan Is One Of The Largest States Economy And A...
Today, Kazakhstan is one of the largest states in Central Asia boasting with developed economy and
a stable political situation. Twenty years of independence allowed Kazakhs to evaluate and perceive
their own history and themselves in a different light.
Abatement of the main signs of national identity traditional mode of life resulted in deterioration of
culture and language, which inflicted severe damages to cultural memory. The first a half of the
XX century was marked for Kazakhstan by the difficult, erratic events which lead to almost
irreversible consequences for the Kazakh s cultural identity: collectivisation, Famine Genocide,
mass political repressions. Destruction of ethnic consciousness at the most different levels resulted
in loss of national nomadic space, deaths of thousands of Kazakhs bearers of traditions and
calculated destruction of intellectual elite by government. Despite all efforts, the subsequent three
generations of Kazakhs were not able to completely heal the scar left more than seventy years ago.
How to overcome this traumatic experience ? What it steps should be taken right now to find the
most reasonable way to create new identity, without destroying and without denying own history?
And what role should be assigned to culture? We will try to find answers to these questions in this
article. Authors do not aim to criticise existing historical events or to try to make the adjustments in

What Is John Locke s Second Treatise
The Second Treatise, of Civil Government, written by John Locke, was an influential book in
shaping political philosophy. Locke was an English philosopher known for developing
liberalism. He wrote two treatises altogether to give his overall argument about how society
should be run. The first treatise criticized Robert Filmer s Patriarcha, which talked about the
king s rule over England. The second treatise reviewed Locke s view on the rights of the people.
He often uses the law of Nature as a reference, which refers to the moral principles for people in
society. There are also sections in the book that influenced James Madison in the creation of the
Bill of Rights. One section in the second treatise argues a person should not be deprived of life,
liberty, and property. This belief was incorporated into the fifth amendment when revising the
Constitution. The Second Treatise, of Civil Government influenced several more functions of our
society... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Locke stated that because people are creatures of the same species, they should not be treated
differently than others. Another section starts to explain Locke s view on the process of the
law. He believed that there should be laws created to decide what actions are right or wrong. To
enforce the laws, there would need to be a judge and an executioner. There would also need to
be punishment for a crime to prevent people from committing other ones. That being said, a man
has the right to do what is best for himself and his community, as long as it follows the laws.
Another one of Locke s views stresses the importance of having a legislative branch. A legislative
power should be put in place to govern laws. In order to set laws, each one must apply to everyone,
no matter their class or importance in society. Also, a person cannot simply make a law for them
self and expect everyone else to follow. A law can only be made by people who have the power to

The Victorian Era The Victorian Era or the romantic period was a time in which Queen Victoria
ruled the throne. The Victorian period formally began in 1837 the year in which Victoria became
the Queen of England and ended in 1901 the year in which she was laid to rest. In this paper, I will
discuss Queen Victoria s life or what we all know to be The Victorian Era. I will highlight some of
the most powerful events that occurred during this time, the many reforms that were passed during
Queen Victoria s ruling, I will discuss the political, cultural, and social developments of this time
period. I will speak about some inventions of the Victorian Era, and the two main political parties
better known as the Tory and Whigs that were popular during this age. You will discover what
imperialism is, the commonwealth, The British Monarch and why and how Victoria was such a
remarkable monarch. I will even tell you some of the most interesting facts that I have learned to be
true about Queen Victoria.
First a little back history, May 24, 1819 marked a birth in history that most definitely did not go
unnoticed. Born into a royal family in Kensington Palace came the one and only Princess
Alexandrina Victoria. Victoria may have been born into royalty but, she actually grew up not being
surrounded by wealth. She grew up in a normal home instead of a palace. Little did the princess
know that she would become heir to the

The Effects Of Environmental Damage, Climate Change,...
The main ideas of the book are societal impact of environmental damage, climate change, hostile
neighbors, withdrawal of support of friendly neighbors, and cultural responses. Some
environmental responses were successful because a lot of ancient societies such as the Anasazi
and their neighbors started constructing a very extensive irrigation systems. It was successful
because the anasazian s were living at higher elevation and cropping on the lower lands and they
needed a way to transport water to there. Throughout the book Diamond used many different
sources. Especially in chapter 1 he uses six different sources. One of these sources is a personal
story of him and Montana. He also uses stories from Stan Falkow, Rick Laible, Chip Pigmen,
Tim Huls, and John Cook all in chapter one. In chapter five of the book Diamonds shows
multiple pictures of old societies such as rwanda, eastern islands, Anasazi, Maya, Greenland,
New Guiena, Dominican Republic, China, and Australia. These pictures are an excellent source
because it shows a sense of climate in the pictures and you can see the type of regions he s
talking about. He also has pictures of current societies such as Los angeles, California he shows a
picture from a helicopter that shows a interchange of freeways. It shows the advancements that we
now have in our society it shows the advancements as far as car but in my eyes I also see al the
pollution they cause in the environment. In this book diamond uses his examples as

!!!Beowulf s Last Battle
Starting around line 2200 of the great epic poem __ Beowulf __, we have the entrance of the last of
the monsters that Beowulf must overcome as part of the epic hero cycle. But this battle is unlike

earlier triumphs. This lesson will focus on the summary and analysis of Beowulf s last battle.
!!!Beowulf, King of the Geats
It s been a long time since __Beowulf__ and the Geats returned from Denmark fifty years earlier.
A lot has happened, most notably the death of __Hygelac__ and his son in battle. The throne
passed from his cousin, Heardred, to Beowulf, and he has ruled wisely and well for a long, long
time. There have been no major battles, and Beowulf s thanes rarely have to fight at all.
But that peace and happiness crumbles when a __dragon__ emerges from the hole he s been hiding
in for three hundred years.
!!!The Slave and the Dragon
A __slave__, fleeing his master, creeps into the hole and sees the dragon and the treasure. The

Of all the changes that swept in the 16th and 17th centuries, the most widely influential was the
Scientific Revolution. This revolution often is associated with various scientific and technological
changes made during this time. However, the Scientific Revolution was also about changes in the
way Europeans looked at themselves and their world.
A revolution in medicine began in the 16th century. During this time Andreas Vesalius and William
Harvey added to the understanding of human anatomy. By dissecting human bodies at the
University of Padua, Vesalius described the individual organs and general structure... Show more

She was not formally educated in the sciences. However, Cavendish wrote a number of books on
scientific matters, including Observations Upon Experimental Philosophy. In this work, Cavendish
was especially critical of the growing belief that humans, through science, were the masters of
Nature. Her contribution to philosophy is widely recognized today, but many intellectuals of the
time did not take her seriosly.
In Germany many of the women who were involved in science were astronomers. These women
had received the opportunity to become astronomers from working in family observatories where
their father or husbands trained them. Between 1650 and 1710 women made up 14% of all German
astronomers.
The most famous female astronomer in Germany was Maria Winkelmann. She received training in
astronomy from a self taught astronomer. When she married Gottfried Kirch, Prussia s foremost
astronomer, she became his assistant and began to pratice astronomy. Winkelmann made some

The Human Stain By Phillip Roth
Losing your Identity
A person identity defines who they are. Unfortunately we do not get to choose our identity; yet our
identity chooses us. Even though we do not get to choose our identity, one needs to be appreciative
of their identity. In the novel The Human Stain by Phillip Roth, Coleman Silk s actions show that he
is losing his identity. Coleman Silk is a man that made irrational decisions in his life, such as
making a racial comment while teaching, lying about his race, and having an affair. In all, he was
trying to find a new identity in search for power. As results of his life decisions, Coleman Silk
lost his original identity that would dwell on him forever. It all started when professor Coleman
Silk was lecturing in class; and he called two absent students spooks . As there were still two
names that failed to elicit a response by the fifth week into the semester, Coleman, in the sixth
week, opened the session by asking, Does anyone know these people? Do they exist or are they
spooks? (Roth 6). Resulting in Coleman getting verbally attacked by the board, for making a racist
phrase spooks . In the end the spooks racists phrase precedes to Coleman Silk s resignation. Having
to leave his job as a professor and Dean of the faculty, he lost a chunk of his original identity. After
the dilemma with the college, Iris his wife dies of a stroke. Iris for close to two years, ever since

Essay on Prions the Proteinacious Killer
Proteinacious Killer
Abstract:
Prions are proteins (PrP) that usually reside in the brain. There are two different forms of prions:
normal PrPC and the pathological isoform, PrPSc. The two forms are chemically similar but
shaped, or folded differently. PrPC occurs naturally in most mammals but PrPSc seems to bring
with it various diseases, or spongiform encephalopathies. Various forms of these diseases have been
found in many animal species, including humans. The actual means by which PrPSc propagates
itself remains unknown but scientists believe the modified protein alters the normal protein
molecules. The diseases may be contracted in a variety of ways. They may be genetically inherited,
acquired by contamination, or occur ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Familial CJD (which is inherited) accounts for about 10 15% of all CJD cases (Ridley, 3). Other
human prion diseases occur only when genetically determined. Gerstmann Sträussler Scheinker
syndrome (GSS) is one such inherited disease, as is Fatal Familial Insomnia (FFI). Atypical prion
disease is also genetically inherited, though it does not easily fit the various diagnostic criteria for
prion disease (Ridley, 3). Another human prion disease is Kuru, which has been referred to as the
laughing death (Prusiner). It was an acquired disease (i.e., contracted through contamination) found
in the Fore Highlanders of Papua New Guinea. The disease was likely spread by cannibalism, as
the Fore honored their dead by eating their brains. However, as this particular ritual stopped, Kuru
virtually disappeared (Prusiner).
The Animal Diseases:
Prion diseases are widespread in other animals as well (prionSP). Scrapie, for example, is a rare
endemic brain disease that occurs in sheep and goats. Transmissible mink encephalopathy (TME),
Bovine spongiform encephalopathy (BSE, more commonly referred to as mad cow disease ),
Feline spongiform encephalopathy (FSE), and spongiform encephalopathy in other species are all
believed to be caused by ingesting material contaminated with scrapie and/or BSE. The cause of
Chronic wasting 3 disease (CWD), a scrapid like disease found in mule deer and Rocky Mountain

Cloned Meat
Cloned meat has been founded on December 28 2006, the United States Food Drug
Administration (FDA) gave preliminary approval for meat and dairy products from cloned
animals to be sold as food for human consumption. They also stated that labeling of cloned food
would not be required because of the approval of the FDA. When they stated that cloned meatdidn t
require labeling for their food products, which automatically brought up a red flag because people
should have the right to know whether or not they re eating cloned offspring or home grown
meat. How would that make you feel; what would your reaction be? Well let me tell you; you
might feel disgusted, clueless, or confused, because you wouldn t have any idea of what type of
food or production... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
While reviewing this website, I ve come to understand that cloning meat is and has been
treacherous to us for providing harm to our farm animals by giving them high doses of different
chemicals, making them live with birth defects and making statements to deceive the public by
saying it s a harmless process that enhances and multiply the breed of animals when it really
does not. The scariest part to this issue is our animals suffer and so do we if we re meat
consumers. (Dan Kedmey) Then studies have proven that bacteriological meat contamination in
the US, for the first time was enacted in 1906 when the Pure Food and Drug Act was signed by
laws in regards of banning infected and mislabeled products from the interstate commerce.
Observations about those risks were associated with bacteriological meat contamination, and
about how it should be regulated, has changed significantly since then. This article focuses
particularly on changes that have occurred in bacteriological meat contamination standards in
the US since the early 1980s when E. coli was for the first time identified as a new foodborne
pathogen associated with the consumption of undercooked meat. The idea of cloning farm
animals is to produce replicas of the animals with the highest economic value, for example the
fastest growing pigs or the highest yielding dairy cows to make a profit off of. However the
process of cloning itself causes our animals suffering. Animals with the highest economic value are
prone to developing severe health problems, pushed to their physical limits; they are destined to a
lifetime of suffering. The Cloning equals Cruelty campaign highlighted intrinsic animal welfare
issues for selective breeding in animals for food, meat and dairy. Research also shows that many
cloned farm animals are born with deformed organs and live short and miserable

Bishop And Roethke On The Contradictions Of Perception
Date
Overwhelming Sensuousness: Bishop and Roethke on the Contradictions of Perception My Papa s
Waltz by Theodore Roethke and The Fish by Elizabeth Bishop depict the seemingly disparate
subjects of a rough, playful dance between a drunken father and his son and a fish just pulled from
the sea. Different in this way, the poems share an intense desire to render the ambiguity of
subjective experience. More specifically, they show how embracing this ambiguity produces rich,
potentially ecstatic modes of perception. While My Papa s Waltz centers on the subjective
oscillation between what John McKenna calls love and fright; excitement and concern, The Fish
probes the dichotomy between life and death, the human and the inhuman (38). Roethke s speaker
seems to remain caught within the binary aspects of his sensory perception, struck by its
contradictory richness, but Bishop offers a glimpse of how the oscillation gives way to epiphany,
to what C.K. Doreski calls a leap from perception to wisdom (112). By directing readers attention
to the importance of engaging subjective experience in a way that does not smooth over its
contradictory elements, both poems are able to powerfully render the heightened modes of being
that can emerge from an immersion in the sensuality of daily existence. I will demonstrate this
claim via a close examination of the poems imagery, diction, tone, and autobiographical contexts. In
order to approach the poems on their own terms, to

Why Is Apollo 13 Wrong
Apollo 13 was first scheduled for March 1970 but eventually was shifted for April that year. Some
spectators believe it was because one of the oxygen tank in the service module encountering a
problem during testing, and it should not have been ignored. Only the third intended mission to the
moon and it wouldn t quite make it. On April 13, 1970 two days after Apollo 13lifted off something
went wrong. The three men, Jim Lovell, Jack Swigert, and Fred Haise trained as any other
astronaut would, but what happened was unpredictable. The three men had just finished a broadcast
to the citizens back home without many people joined watching. It was 56 hours into the mission
where a cryo stir had occurred this caused Oxygen tank 2 in the service module... Show more

They could see the symptoms easily enough lack of power, lack of oxygen but had no clue about
the underlying disease that had befallen their ship (Bizony). Unfortunately the men only had a
small triangular window to look out onto the ship. When one of the astronauts finally saw a
large clue Lovell called in that he had seen a gas blowing into space. The substance coming out
happened to be from the cryogenic tank explosion, but how did it happen? Not long after the
Apollo 13 accident, they put months of investigation in and just happened to find out where the
mistake was made. Back in 1968while the oxygen tanks were being manufactured one of them
happened to be dropped, but the tank still passed it s quality checks and was sent out.
Meanwhile, three weeks before Apollo 13 there was a test run on the cryogenic tanks and how
they can carry their load. Every tank gets pre flight testing but when this particular tank was
tested it seemed to show it had a damaged fill line. Meaning it would not empty the contents as
desired. When the tank was getting pre flight tests the tanks were emptied by forcing oxygen gas
into the tank and the liquid oxygen was forced out, but while in space the tanks did not need to
be emptied. Heaters were located in the tank in order to heat the inside of it to keep the oxygen
flowing and this would only be used for short periods of time. The plan was to use these heaters
to essentially boil off any excess oxygen, this would then need 8 hour of 65 volt DC power. The
thermostatically controlled switches on the heater were only made for 28 volt DC power so this
led people to believe they were damaged from that mistake. This would then cause the switches to
weld shut meaning the temperature would rise over 1000 degrees F inside the tank.

Zadar Research Paper
Zadar is a vibrant and unique city that combines medieval architecture from the Roman occupation
with a modern flair, attracting thousands of tourists every year. As an important touristic city of
Croatia, Zadar is also a connection point for tourists that wish to visit this country and prefer to fly
to Zadar Airport and then use other means of transportation to their near destinations. While
travelling to an unknown city in a foreign country without a thorough research is almost madness,
many tourists arrange their transportation from the airport to their hotels or to the next town from
home or they at least save a couple of taxi numbers in their phones just in case. Foreigners are in
general reluctant to use public transportation when travelling abroad fearing they will get lost or
get too delayed, but are these fears relevant for Zadar as well?

The New Left And Radical Counterculture
When one looks back on the frenetic 1960s, conservative sentiments aren t usually the first thing
to come to mind. Yet, while the New Left and the radical counterculture were reshaping cultural
ideals, it was the New Right who emerged from the 1960s as a viable political force. The New
Left can be categorized as a broad, largely youthful, movement with the goal to challenge various
social norms and to institute a participatory democracy . Moreover, the New Leftwas New in a
sense that they differed from the labor centered liberal elites at the time; insisting on creating
larger, more radical changes to society. On the other hand, the New Right was a largely grassroots
movement aimed to restore traditionalist values from the Eastern Establishment. The New Right
was New in a sense that it revitalized conservative hope at a time when those hopes looked mighty
bleak. When analyzing the wildly different outcomes of the two movements, it becomes apparent
that the New Right s political oriented manner to achieve their goals proved to be the decisive
factor in maintaining long term stability; something the confrontational New Left did not have the
resources to achieve from the outset. When accounting for the different political outcomes between
the New Right and New Left, we first must first put their overall goals in perspective. The main
U.S New Leftist group, the Students for a Democratic Society (SDS), was conceived in 1959 and
issued its political manifesto, The

Abolishment Of Sweatshops In The United States
largely beneficial in the lives of the working people. While workers in sweatshops are extremely
willing to work in sweatshops, individuals in western nations often advocate for the abolishment of
sweatshops. Individuals in the west who argue against sweatshops are often arguing for the interest
of dominant groups in society. Arguing against developing countries trying to build their living
standards and happiness through low wage production and manufacturing, is actually individuals
and groups wanting jobs to stay in the wealthy nations instead of being sent off to low cost nations
(Spath, 2002, pg. 125). Advocating for the abolishment of sweatshops is placing a barrier on an

Real life examples would be campuses across the United States, and individual municipalities across
Canada advocating against sweatshops, and advocating for sweat free goods. Student activists in
universities in the United States have started to disallow purchasing university merchandise from
factories that don t respect worker s rights. This push is coming from the United Students Against
Sweatshops, who have over the years organized strikes, rallies, and charity events to demand that
American universities make stronger policies to disallow clothing for students to come from
sweatshops. Pressure from students have made numerous universities support this cause.
Furthermore, students have demanded that popular clothing brands like Nike disclose which
factories are used to make university merchandise, and Nike did give the locations and names of its
factories to the organization. Nike also promised to make sweatshop conditions better. This is an
example of how student organizations are getting major companies to improve the conditions in
sweatshops, and how major organizations share the view that sweatshops are extremely bad for
worker s economic and social human rights. Student organizations in universities are also making
companies pay their workers more in order for them to meet the living wage. While this does
make prices for merchandise higher, it has a minimal impact on the consumer and a huge impact on
the worker. In this way students are improving the lives of many sweatshop workers around the
world (Dreier Appelbaum, 2006, pg. 122). Another example would be that for years Ottawa has
been trying to ensure that goods purchased by the city are not from sweatshops, and meet universal
labour and environmental standards. Ottawa is becoming among

No Love for Animals in Sea World
Charles Darwin once said, the love for all living creatures is the most noble attribute of man. If
only Darwin had been alive to witness the secrets of the well known marine mammal theme park
known as SeaWorld, he would have been as appalled as many have been discovering these
hidden secrets. One of the major issues with SeaWorld is animal captivity. It serves as a
profitable way for people to see and enjoy wild animals, but through the captivity it can transform
harmless animals into violent, agitated monsters in some cases. The defenseless animals, such
as the killer whales at Seaworld, are deprived of their family, lives and freedom, which can lead
to exceptional aggression. Many people that visit SeaWorld or know of the theme park believe
that it is just a welcoming marina and a great place to take family to see wild animals and the
remarkable shows that the killer whales present. Clearly many people do not realize the truth
behind what SeaWorld is doing to these poor animals. For starters, captive marine animals are
robbed of most everything that is natural to them such as living in a family pod and swimming
up to a hundred miles each day. Obviously these necessities cannot be met within the small
enclosures where the killer whales live. Another less known fact about SeaWorld is that it lowers
animals life spans quite drastically. Orca whales live on an average of thirty to fifty years in the
wild and some can live to ninety, but the average age for orcas in

  • 2. High School Football Athletes Essay The mindset that society thrusts upon most high school athletes can take away from academics and other opportunities they may have for their future. For many high school football athletes, they are primarily focused on one thing throughout their high school years: sports. Evidence 1: In towns such as Odessa in Friday Night Lights, players are swallowed up by the glamour of football and neglect most things not related to football, rather than balance sports with academics. It was a phenomenon that Trapper had seen dozens of times before, a kid so caught up in it all that there was no room for anything else, another kid for whom nothing in life would ever be so glorious, so fulfilling as playing high schoolfootball. Trapper didn t see the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... When they focus too much on football or whatever sport they are playing, than their grades falter, and they lose their chance to get a solid degree. One student that broke the trap that high school athletes fall into is Brian Chavez, a student at Permian High School in Friday Night Lights. As the number one student in his class, his aspirations extended far beyond the glimmer of expectation that a Texas school, any Texas school, might be willing to give him a football scholarship. He had set his sights differently, zeroing in on a target that seemed incomprehensible to his family, his friends, just about everyone. He wanted to go to Harvard (Bissinger 13). Chavez is essentially the antithesis of all his peers and classmates; instead of making football the high point of his entire life, he values his future and education over the present glory of football. Despite being pressured into setting aside his future dreams in order to better the team, he does not fall into the trap his society had set for him. Chavez ended up enjoying Permien football as well as going to Harvard, so he is the prime example of how high school athletes should carry themselves. But unfortunately, it is extremely tough for most athletes in towns such as Odessa or Winthrop to do so. High school football encapsulates their entire lives, and the pressure put ... • 3. 12 Angry Men Psychology There are many examples of social psychology illustrated in the movie Twelve Angry Men directed by Sidney Lumet. This film takes place around the 1950 s and jurors have to choose whether or not a man will be charged innocent or guilty on the murder of his dad. In the beginning of the film, only eleven of the twelve men choose to plead guilty. Then shortly after a strong debate, the jurors begin to change their minds to charging the boy as innocent. This movie shows strong examples of social psychology through aggression, group process and conformity. This analysis will explain some of these social psychological examples in much more detail. Conformity Conformity is the way people change their behaviors so that they can fit in or follow the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For example, aggression is shown when the jury is discussing who has changed their mind on the vote. Some and even most of the jurors are mad because one of the others is trying to explain why he s changed his mind on voting non guilty. Many of the examples of aggression come from the frustration of the jury against each other. There is a moment when a switchblade acts as a sign of aggression by one of the jurors showing one how to use it properly showing that the boy was aware of how to use the blade. Some of the scenes where the jury is discussing why or why not the boy should be proven guilty or non guilty show conform to support the social psychological example of aggression in this film. Several examples of group process are also shown throughout this film. Group polarization is when a group discusses something that will strengthen the main point of a subject, which is an example of a group process. This normally leads towards a negative shift in decisions. Twelve Angry Men shows these processes but only with ridicule by Fonda and his allies. Group process includes things like group polarization, social compensation, groupthink and social loafing. Another example of group process shown in this film is All of these are examples shown throughout the movie Twelve Angry ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Restitution can be paid in either money or worked off with community service. Many juveniles enter into the system threw referrals or petitions. Referrals is when they have broken a law and if they were of majority would be put in jail. A petition is a document filed in the juvenile court which addresses the issues that the juvenile should appear in court (Benekos, Champion, Merlo, 2013). Mental illness is another issue that is not adequately being addressed. Many kids that are being incarcerated are not getting the mental health treatment that they are needing. Countless families are postponed from services due to the absence of obtainable mental health services (Barksdale, Stephan, Westin, 2014). Many times Juveniles come into group homes and have not been taking their medication because they have been on the run. Some families know that something is wrong but are at a loss of how to get help or where they should turn to get help. Energy comes in different forms, and described by the first law of thermodynamics, energy can be converted from one form of energy into another. Although the English settled both, the two regions were severely different from each other when they were brought about. The New England and Chesapeake colonies differed in three ways: their reason for venturing over, economy, and population. These major differences were what shaped our nation today and what will continue shaping our nation in the future. When the Mayflower sailed over to the New World, on the boats were Puritans that were looking for a change in the way that their religion was practiced where the Chesapeake settlers came over for gold. Because the Chesapeake settlers were too interested in gold, they did not settle down and get ready for the harsh winters to come; leaving them unprotected to the fierce winter. The New England settlers were settles and ready, but they did loose a few men to the bitter cold, however not as many as the Chesapeake settlers did. The economy of the two regions also greatly differed because of the terrain that they landed on. Because the land in the south was much more fertile than in the north, the southern colonies thrived in rice and tobacco, profiting greatly. In New England the settlers could not grow anything in the rocky terrain and were forced into fishing, building, and farming. However, not much farming went on because of the infertile soil. In the Chesapeake slaves were also a main part of their economy. The slave trade made them very wealthy because of their closeness to the West Indies. They would be shipped many slaves and then use them to harvest their crops and plant their land. Soon, the slaves outnumbered white settlers by about four to one. When the English sailed over to the New World, there were only a handful of them, that is, until slavery was introduced. • 11. Substance Abuse And Its Effects SUBSTANCE ABUSE Researchers state that almost half of individuals diagnosed with schizophrenia in the United States also self medicate with alcohol and other drugs (Elements Behavioral Health, 2014). This is suggested due to individuals attempting to lessen the symptoms of their disorder. As discussed previously symptoms can include hearing and seeing things that others don t hear or see, problems falling asleep or staying asleep and problems with concentration and memory. In an effort to lessen these symptoms alcohol and other drugs are used to induce sleep (NIMH, 2014). Research suggests that approximately fifty percent of individuals diagnosed with schizophreniahave a co occurring substance abuse disorder. The most common used are alcohol, marijuana and tobacco (Green, Drake, Brunette Noordsy, 2007) (Dube, 2012). In contrast to what individuals diagnosed with schizophrenia think they may be achieving by using alcohol and other drugs, research states that substance use may actually modify the dysfunction in the brain reward center by increasing the symptoms (Green et.al, 2007). Self medicating with alcohol and other drugs can often lead to disruptions in gaining access to treatment. Pharmacological treatment is seen as one of the most effective ways to assist with symptom reduction, and using alcohol and other drugs often interfere (MHA, n.d). • 12. The Swing Era My audience was my life. What I did and how I did it, was all for my audience , these words came from the well known and never forgotten Cab Calloway. His style and mix of blues, swing and scat spread like wildfire and filled many peoples lives with joy, excitement and happiness. Cab Calloway broke the boundaries of racial barriers and become a very popular and influential household name. As stated in the JazzProfiles from NPR, A truly larger than life figure in American pop culture...Calloway also led one of the greatest bands of the Swing Era (Ossman). Cab Calloway arose from an era where racism against black jazz musicians was present and drug addiction seemed to consume the majority of these musicians lives. It was no surprise that Cab Calloway pursued a career as an entertainer. He grew up in a family that consisted of musicians and performers, although it was expected that he would follow in his fathers foot steps and become a lawyer. Around the mid to late 1920s Cab Calloway assembled his own band and they were known as the Alabamians. Although his time with the Alabamians was short lived, he eventually became bandleader of a big band called the Missourians. Cab Calloway and the Missourians became an instant hit and sensation. They performed in popular clubs such as Savoy Theater and The Cotton Club. • 13. The Cruel Caricature Of Billy Budd There is a trend in modern media criticism to scrutinize the leads of a romance and highlighting the behaviors that could be interpreted as malicious. Rarely do these critics examine their own past courting behavior, because if they had, surely they would see how even the most rational minds are frayed when under the spell of infatuation. This is parallel to how the narrator of Billy Budd, Sailor views the behavior of the character Master at Arms, John Claggart. Through many a biblical reference and serpentine comparisons, the narrator of Billy Budd paints a vile portrait of the Master at Arms. Yet when closely examining the text, the foul caricature of John Claggart is nowhere to be found. What is present, is a man in love, who knows the consequences... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It thrives in the characters as well, as even though Claggart is transparent in his affections for Billy, he too must hide this aspect of himself, and the sorrow it brings him is just the beginning of Claggart s tragic attraction to Billy. In his short essay on Billy Budd, Albert S. Braverman notes how many hypothesize that Claggart s plot against Billy was due to his feelings towards him. He then remarks that an overt attempt to seduce Billy might well have the same outcome (Braverman Pg.1). If Billy Budd is a tragedy than Claggart s attraction to Billy is his fatal flaw. For Claggart there is no way to dodge the consequences of his sexuality. Either action spells out the end for he and Billy. This still assume malicious intent from Claggart, but when looking at the text there are a few key moments which frame Claggart s plot in a different way. But, at heart and not for nothing, as the late chance encounter may indicate to the discerning, down on him, secretly down on him, he assuredly was (Pg. 82). Once again the narration betrays itself and ends up revealing more of Claggart s sympathetic traits. The late chance encounter along with the phase secretly down on him suggest that one of the many blockades between Claggart and Billy, is that Claggart is tired of hiding his sexuality. If Claggart had met Billy as a younger man, he may have been willing to risk pursing Billy, but as the late indicates Claggart no ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

That gives you a lot of space to mess around with the room sound for the drums without the cymbals going all over it. Andrews also mentions that the snare drum used is a tiny 10 inch thing that he possibly bought from the toy shop. This allows the snare to have a good crack to it and then also with a little distortion, can make the snare ring (2013, Sound on Sound). The first group, represented by DDT, is known as the chlorinated hydrocarbons and the other group, represented by Malathion and parathion, consists of the organic phosphorus insecticides. Although both are organic, the organic phosphorous insecticides are more poisonous than the chlorinated hydrocarbons and have the ability to destroy enzymes. 2. Too much of the insecticides will allow acetylcholine to build up which would lead to convulsions and eventually death. 2. Research in the early 1960s proved that high levels of DDT found in predatory birds were the cause of the decrease in their populations. When the predatory birds came in contact with DDT, their reproduction was directly affected. As a result of DDT s presence in the predatory bird s body, the eggshells of these birds started to become slender. These eggshells become so thin that whenever the mother bird would lie on the egg waiting for it to hatch, the eggs would break. Thus, the predatory bird population had no means of increasing, since their reproduction was not successful. Biological magnification had a large role to play in the decrease of the predatory bird population. Spraying of DDT on vegetation led to contamination of the prey populations such as fish. These prey started building large concentrations of DDT within their bodies. As a result, the predatory birds also got contaminated, since they preyed upon contaminated animals. 3. With regards to the genetic makeup of target insect populations, heavy pesticideuse can alter their DNA to the point where the insects develop a resistance to certain insecticides like malaria mosquitoes to DDT. Is violence, resentment, anger or fear worth the risk taken when striking him or her. Whether your for or against using physical punishment in child development, as a parent, you will someday have to face this issue. Many parents are taught this method in their childhood, and are not aware of any other way. Often originating from religion, physical or corporal punishment is seen as an important ingredient in child rearing. This tool is used to accomplish total authority by the parent and to receive total submission from the child. Teaching total authority by the parent, most Conservative Protestants use corporal punishment today as their forefathers did. In Spare the Child, Philip Greven points out, Modern forms of Christian Fundamentalism share the same obsessions with obedience to authority characteristic of earlier modes of Evangelical Protestantism, and the same authoritarian streak evident among seventeenth and eighteenth century Anglo American Evangelicals is discernible today, for precisely the same reasons: the coercion of children through painful punishments in order to teach obedience to divine and parental authority (198). The idea many years ago is obvious, society felt that physical punishment was necessary for obedience. With study and research over time, successful child rearing has changed to produce better results. Dr. Benjamin Spock adds, In the olden days, most children were spanked, on the assumption that this was necessary to make them behave. In the twentieth century, as parents and professionals have studied children here and in other countries, they have come to realize that children can be well behaved, cooperative, and polite without ever having been punished physically (437). Realizing the impact this old fashioned method can have on a child, society is changing their views on how we should discipline. We are moving away from intimidation and pain tactics to more effective, positive methods. EFFECTS / ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Histone Code Hypothesis The replacement of somatic histones with testis specific variants in early haploid germ cells is undoubtedly an essential step for promoting chromatin remodeling during spermiogenesis, and it is believed to involve the histone code. The histone code hypothesis proposes that combinations of histone modification could serve as specific signals that recruit protein domains to alter chromatin structure to either promote or suppress genetranscription (Turner, 2002). There is evidence for the involvement of the histone code in chromatin remodeling as stage specific histone modifications have been reported to occur during spermiogenesis, namely histone H4 acetylation, histone H3 methylation and phosphorylation, and histone H2A ubiquitination (Song... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Protamines are 50 amino acid long, cysteine and arginine rich proteins that bind tightly to the negative DNA backbone. As with TPs, PRMs are transcribed in round spermatids and only appear in late spermiogenesis to complete chromatin condensation. Their positive charge stabilizes the chromatin as it abolishes electrostatic repulsion between proximal chromatin strands, forming toroids loops (Cho et al., 2003). Further chromatin compaction occurs during epididymal transit during which PRMs form disulfide bridges between cysteine residues to form a semi crystalline chromatin (Carrell et al., 2007). Two PRMs have been identified, PRM1 and PRM2, both of which are present in human and mouse germ cells, but only PRM1 exists in the rat. There are two critical differences dissociate the two protamines, both structurally and functionally. First, PRM2 binds longer stretches of DNA, which renders the chromatin less compacted. Second, PRM2 coordinates one zinc atom, which in the case of humans makes zinc deficiency an important issue (Balhorn, 2007). However, this difference does not make one PRM more essential than the other. This number is useful in determining how much a unit actually cost to manufacture and what we must minimally sell the product for to make a profit. We can than analyze if a product costs to much to make or the sum of the parts is more than the price of the end product. For years, blondes have been associated with words such as dumb , needy , promiscuous and other unflattering adjectives. Even with these unfortunate stereotypes, research proves that blondes may be the exact opposite. Those with blonde hair are smarter, wealthier, and are genetically predispositioned to have attractive qualities. Blondes have been proven to be the most intelligent when compared to other hair shades. In a study conducted by the Ohio State University where 10,878 females were surveyed, blonde women enjoyed an average IQ of 103.2. Those with brown hair mustered a mere 102.7. Redheads managed 101.2. And what s with black haired women? Theirs was an average IQ of 100.5 (Matyszezyk 2016). Blondes typically have a stigmatism associated with them, such as being dumb and having little common sense. This stereotype often appears in the media, with numerous movies focused around blonde women with little intelligence. While this doesn t automatically equate directly to genetics, it can mean that blonde women are better set up for success. Research by the National Longitudinal Survey of Youth shows that people with naturally blondhair were found to have typically grown up in environments with more reading materials available to them, allowing for more intellectual stimulation during their early growth period than people with other hair colors had (Ricevuto 2016). ... It can be viewed in a technical manner, considering that childhood finishes at a certain age. Alternatively, childhood could be considered in relation to experiences, expectations and societal views. There are many influences to consider when defining childhoodand what determines a person s idea about childhood. In this discussion paper I will be exploring some key ideas of childhood and thinking about this in the context of child development. Childhood could be viewed as socially constructed, it is difficult to define as every child is diverse and has different influences, such as time, space and countries. What is a child? There are many ways of defining what a child is and all individuals have a different perspective. Oxford dictionaries define a child as a young human being below the age of puberty or below the legal age of majority Oxford Dictionaries (2014). This statement does not define a child, as all children experience puberty at different ages. For example, a child may have reached puberty by 13 years old, but by law, they are still a child, as they are not able to vote, drive, drink alcohol or have sexual intercourse. However, some holiday companies define adults as 12 years and over, therefore they are classed as an adult within this organisation, despite being under age to take part in numerous activities. • 36. Kazakhstan Is One Of The Largest States Economy And A... Today, Kazakhstan is one of the largest states in Central Asia boasting with developed economy and a stable political situation. Twenty years of independence allowed Kazakhs to evaluate and perceive their own history and themselves in a different light. Abatement of the main signs of national identity traditional mode of life resulted in deterioration of culture and language, which inflicted severe damages to cultural memory. The first a half of the XX century was marked for Kazakhstan by the difficult, erratic events which lead to almost irreversible consequences for the Kazakh s cultural identity: collectivisation, Famine Genocide, mass political repressions. Destruction of ethnic consciousness at the most different levels resulted in loss of national nomadic space, deaths of thousands of Kazakhs bearers of traditions and calculated destruction of intellectual elite by government. Despite all efforts, the subsequent three generations of Kazakhs were not able to completely heal the scar left more than seventy years ago. How to overcome this traumatic experience ? What it steps should be taken right now to find the most reasonable way to create new identity, without destroying and without denying own history? And what role should be assigned to culture? • 37. What Is John Locke s Second Treatise The Second Treatise, of Civil Government, written by John Locke, was an influential book in shaping political philosophy. Locke was an English philosopher known for developing liberalism. He wrote two treatises altogether to give his overall argument about how society should be run. The first treatise criticized Robert Filmer s Patriarcha, which talked about the king s rule over England. The second treatise reviewed Locke s view on the rights of the people. He often uses the law of Nature as a reference, which refers to the moral principles for people in society. There are also sections in the book that influenced James Madison in the creation of the Bill of Rights. One section in the second treatise argues a person should not be deprived of life, liberty, and property. This belief was incorporated into the fifth amendment when revising the Constitution. Locke stated that because people are creatures of the same species, they should not be treated differently than others. Another section starts to explain Locke s view on the process of the law. He believed that there should be laws created to decide what actions are right or wrong. To enforce the laws, there would need to be a judge and an executioner. There would also need to be punishment for a crime to prevent people from committing other ones. That being said, a man has the right to do what is best for himself and his community, as long as it follows the laws. Another one of Locke s views stresses the importance of having a legislative branch. A legislative power should be put in place to govern laws. In order to set laws, each one must apply to everyone, no matter their class or importance in society. Also, a person cannot simply make a law for them self and expect everyone else to follow. • 46. Essay on Prions the Proteinacious Killer Proteinacious Killer Abstract: Prions are proteins (PrP) that usually reside in the brain. There are two different forms of prions: normal PrPC and the pathological isoform, PrPSc. The two forms are chemically similar but shaped, or folded differently. PrPC occurs naturally in most mammals but PrPSc seems to bring with it various diseases, or spongiform encephalopathies. Various forms of these diseases have been found in many animal species, including humans. The actual means by which PrPSc propagates itself remains unknown but scientists believe the modified protein alters the normal protein molecules. The diseases may be contracted in a variety of ways. They may be genetically inherited, acquired by contamination, or occur ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Familial CJD (which is inherited) accounts for about 10 15% of all CJD cases (Ridley, 3). Other human prion diseases occur only when genetically determined. Gerstmann StrГ¤ussler Scheinker syndrome (GSS) is one such inherited disease, as is Fatal Familial Insomnia (FFI). Atypical prion disease is also genetically inherited, though it does not easily fit the various diagnostic criteria for prion disease (Ridley, 3). Another human prion disease is Kuru, which has been referred to as the laughing death (Prusiner). It was an acquired disease (i.e., contracted through contamination) found in the Fore Highlanders of Papua New Guinea. The disease was likely spread by cannibalism, as the Fore honored their dead by eating their brains. However, as this particular ritual stopped, Kuru virtually disappeared (Prusiner). The Animal Diseases: Prion diseases are widespread in other animals as well (prionSP). Scrapie, for example, is a rare endemic brain disease that occurs in sheep and goats. Transmissible mink encephalopathy (TME), Bovine spongiform encephalopathy (BSE, more commonly referred to as mad cow disease ), Feline spongiform encephalopathy (FSE), and spongiform encephalopathy in other species are all believed to be caused by ingesting material contaminated with scrapie and/or BSE. The scariest part to this issue is our animals suffer and so do we if we re meat consumers. (Dan Kedmey) Then studies have proven that bacteriological meat contamination in the US, for the first time was enacted in 1906 when the Pure Food and Drug Act was signed by laws in regards of banning infected and mislabeled products from the interstate commerce. Observations about those risks were associated with bacteriological meat contamination, and about how it should be regulated, has changed significantly since then. This article focuses particularly on changes that have occurred in bacteriological meat contamination standards in the US since the early 1980s when E. coli was for the first time identified as a new foodborne pathogen associated with the consumption of undercooked meat. The idea of cloning farm animals is to produce replicas of the animals with the highest economic value, for example the fastest growing pigs or the highest yielding dairy cows to make a profit off of. However the process of cloning itself causes our animals suffering. Animals with the highest economic value are prone to developing severe health problems, pushed to their physical limits; they are destined to a lifetime of suffering. The Cloning equals Cruelty campaign highlighted intrinsic animal welfare issues for selective breeding in animals for food, meat and dairy. Research also shows that many cloned farm animals are born with deformed organs and live short and miserable ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 48. Bishop And Roethke On The Contradictions Of Perception Date Overwhelming Sensuousness: Bishop and Roethke on the Contradictions of Perception My Papa s Waltz by Theodore Roethke and The Fish by Elizabeth Bishop depict the seemingly disparate subjects of a rough, playful dance between a drunken father and his son and a fish just pulled from the sea. Different in this way, the poems share an intense desire to render the ambiguity of subjective experience. More specifically, they show how embracing this ambiguity produces rich, potentially ecstatic modes of perception. While My Papa s Waltz centers on the subjective oscillation between what John McKenna calls love and fright; excitement and concern, The Fish probes the dichotomy between life and death, the human and the inhuman (38). Roethke s speaker seems to remain caught within the binary aspects of his sensory perception, struck by its contradictory richness, but Bishop offers a glimpse of how the oscillation gives way to epiphany, to what C.K. Doreski calls a leap from perception to wisdom (112). By directing readers attention to the importance of engaging subjective experience in a way that does not smooth over its contradictory elements, both poems are able to powerfully render the heightened modes of being that can emerge from an immersion in the sensuality of daily existence. I will demonstrate this claim via a close examination of the poems imagery, diction, tone, and autobiographical contexts. In order to approach the poems on their own terms, to ... The substance coming out happened to be from the cryogenic tank explosion, but how did it happen? Not long after the Apollo 13 accident, they put months of investigation in and just happened to find out where the mistake was made. Back in 1968while the oxygen tanks were being manufactured one of them happened to be dropped, but the tank still passed it s quality checks and was sent out. Meanwhile, three weeks before Apollo 13 there was a test run on the cryogenic tanks and how they can carry their load. Every tank gets pre flight testing but when this particular tank was tested it seemed to show it had a damaged fill line. Meaning it would not empty the contents as desired. When the tank was getting pre flight tests the tanks were emptied by forcing oxygen gas into the tank and the liquid oxygen was forced out, but while in space the tanks did not need to be emptied. Heaters were located in the tank in order to heat the inside of it to keep the oxygen flowing and this would only be used for short periods of time. The plan was to use these heaters to essentially boil off any excess oxygen, this would then need 8 hour of 65 volt DC power. The thermostatically controlled switches on the heater were only made for 28 volt DC power so this led people to believe they were damaged from that mistake. This would then cause the switches to weld shut meaning the temperature would rise over 1000 degrees F inside the tank. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Arguing against developing countries trying to build their living standards and happiness through low wage production and manufacturing, is actually individuals and groups wanting jobs to stay in the wealthy nations instead of being sent off to low cost nations (Spath, 2002, pg. 125). Student activists in universities in the United States have started to disallow purchasing university merchandise from factories that don t respect worker s rights. This push is coming from the United Students Against Sweatshops, who have over the years organized strikes, rallies, and charity events to demand that American universities make stronger policies to disallow clothing for students to come from sweatshops. Pressure from students have made numerous universities support this cause. Furthermore, students have demanded that popular clothing brands like Nike disclose which factories are used to make university merchandise, and Nike did give the locations and names of its factories to the organization. Nike also promised to make sweatshop conditions better. This is an example of how student organizations are getting major companies to improve the conditions in sweatshops, and how major organizations share the view that sweatshops are extremely bad for worker s economic and social human rights. Student organizations in universities are also making companies pay their workers more in order for them to meet the living wage. If only Darwin had been alive to witness the secrets of the well known marine mammal theme park known as SeaWorld, he would have been as appalled as many have been discovering these hidden secrets. One of the major issues with SeaWorld is animal captivity.
