Market Reasoning
are looked at in form of persons rather than just artificial entities. Therefore, giving them the
power to possess rights and responsibilities. Companies are ought not to be treated as persons
because they are solely created to fulfill the purpose of generating profits and indeed have no extra
responsibilities to the society. To achieve democracy, corporation involvement in politics must be
avoided. Corporate responsibilities to the public are better addressed in the democratic process than
inside corporate boardrooms. (Reich, 668). Large corporations tend to influence political decisions
due to the financial incentives given to politicians. If companies take part in the political system,

There are those goods and practices that cannot be bought according to Sandel even though there
is fairness. For example, there are certain types of happiness cannot be bought such as a loveable
family and true lifelong friends. Love is a natural feeling of affection that cannot have a price to
it. Even though someone can buy friends, the feeling is not the same as the natural affection of
love from a true friend. On the other hand, individuals perceive happiness in different ways. Some
individuals view happiness in form of possessing material wealth and others do not. In conclusion,
free market capitalism has created an opportunity for individuals in society and paved way for
people to enjoy a lot of goods and services produced and sold through the market exchange.
However, capitalism has created many negative consequences since it is mainly concerned with
maximizing profits and minimizing costs. These negatives consequences in most cases eventually
outweighed positive outcomes especially affecting democracy. For instance, equality of all people
has been induced negatively leading to

My Best Friend Growing Up
Running head: TEACHING PAPER1

Kendra Holdener
Maryville University
INTRODUCTION Kasia was and still is my best friend growing up. We had gone on several
vacations together with each other s families. Then there was one vacation that I went with her
on right before our senior year of high school. Her family has a passion for flying, they have
three planes now and Kasia had planned on becoming a commercial pilot. Because of their
passion for flying they go to Oshkosh, Wisconsin every summer for the EAA AirVenture, which
is a big flight convention outdoors. I went with them one year and I started to notice some things
with Kasia. I noticed that she was constantly going to the bathroom and with every glass of
water I had she would have had three. I pointed this out to her and told her that she should go see
a doctor. I did not know what was wrong with her I just knew there was something wrong with her.
Six months later she went to the doctor for a flight physical to make sure she was healthy enough
to become a pilot. They tested her blood sugar and it was in the 700s. On April 23 2014 Kasia was
diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes. Type 1 Diabetes is when someone becomes dependent on insulin
in order to keep them from becoming hyperglycemic. Type 1 Diabetes occurs when the beta cells in
the pancreas destroy themselves or the immune system attacks them and kills them (Sommers,
2015). This form of diabetes is not caused by obesity and

The Play Our Town
The play Our Town was something so unique and simple, but it somehow found a way to relate
with everyone. Its simplicity seemed to be a hit or miss with many audience members. It was
one of those plays that you relate so much with it you enjoy its minimalistic nature, or you find it
too typical and boring. I happen to be among the group that found this play to be very appealing.
I feel that at many times, little to no scenery and props make it hard to visualize the scene of a
play. However, with Our Town the addition of a stage manager to give an explanation of each
scene made up for that entirely. The stage manager of the playhad to be my absolutely favorite
character. I found him witty and expressive. He made his voice emit the right type of sound
when articulating his point. Even his facial expressions matched the mood his character was
meant to be in. He fit his character so well that if it weren t for him, I wouldn t have enjoyed the
play as much as I did. As a whole he was a great actor. He did all the right gestures and made his
acting feel so natural. It was like he was having a conversation with the audience. I think the
element of his character is what created a connection with the play and myself. Another actor that
was suitable for his character was the one who played Howie Newsome, the milkman. His
character was very fascinating in how he managed to act along with the sound effects, and was on
time. He was very enthusiastic in his scenes. For example, every

Why I Am I Here
Why am I here? That s the question I ve been asking myself since I ve been here. I m spending
almost thirty grand on four classes, a dorm, a meal plan, and etc. Sometimes I question myself
whether thirty grand is worth my time but I m here to get an education from a good university.
Though it s still a lot of money that I don t have. Though I am here undecided, I am looking to
choose a vocational or a degree career will help me become succesful in the future.
Gary Gutting Wrote, What is College For? Gutting explains that college is for students who wantto
gain knowledge for the rest of their life, that it s not the teacher s job just to teach but the student
s to engage and make it interesting, and then they become interesting as well. Too most students
they may have answered this question differently, some would have said they wanted to live
better, make friends, and others might say that his or her family s been planning college since
they were tiny. My parents have tried to finish college, but were never able to finish it, but I m
not here because they want me to go. My family has lived paycheck to paycheck with four
children, five cats and three dogs. There s my answer I am here because I want to have four
children, five cats and 3 dogs and not live paycheck to paycheck. I want to be able to financially

Earth Sets A Temperature Record For The Third Straight Year
Global Warming
Global warming has been a conversation holder for the past decade or so. Years ago people
believed that global warming was a myth, and was not going to happen. Now for the third year
in a row temperatures are becoming warmer and warmer. Scientists are becoming more alert to
the steady pace of earth s temperatures rising. In the article Earth Sets a Temperature Record for
the Third Straight Year by Justin Gillis, he explains that earth is casually becoming warmer every
single year. After reading Gillis s article I would strongly agree with him, I believe his article gives
concrete evidence that earth is warming up, and could potentially cause many problems. Global
warming is happening and will eventually cause extinction, rise in sea level, and effects on weather.
Caribou, Ermine, Polar bears, arctic fox, and white wolves are just some of many animals that
could potentially become extinct in the near future. Some ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Global warming is happening now, and will keep on happening until we choose to stop it. The

Animal Symbology in Sir Gawain and the Green Knight and...
In Sir Gawain and the Green Knight and the Lais of Marie de France, the authors use animals as
metaphors for human actions, and as characters. By analyzing the use of these animals, we are able
to explore the meaning the authors were trying to communicate through specific scenes. The Book
of Beasts, a translation by T.H. White (1984 ed.), provides a medieval standpoint when analyzing
the use of animals in the Lais and in Gawain.
In Sir Gawain and the Green Knight, there is specific use of three animals as metaphors for human
actions. These animals are the deer, boar, and fox. When Gawain rests with the Lord and Lady on
his way to battle with the Green Knight, we see three hunting scenes, which coincide with three

A fox will feign death in order to snatch up carrion eaters for his food, which is similar, as the
author claims, to the devil. The devil snatches up people who live in the flesh, or by the doings
of the foxy body (pg 54). In this seduction scene, Gawain is tempted one last time by the Lady,
who seems to live in the flesh. Her major role in Gawain s visits has been as a temptress trying to
make Gawain her lover. By Gawain s reaction, it seems that her flirting may be working on him
when he states:
So faultless her features... / His heart swelled swiftly with surging joys / ...Each joyed in other s
sight (lines 1761 1767)
Yet again, he is able to reject her temptation and the pleasures of the flesh. He states that he has no
lover, and will not have one for quite some time. The Lady is disappointed but leaves stating that
she must at least give him some token of affection. Gawain accepts the sash, for which he later feels
guilty and confesses.
In The Lais of Marie de France, there are several animals used as both metaphors and characters.
Four lais that include the use of animals are Equitan, Bisclavert, Yonec and Laustic. White s
translation states that equi is the name for a horse in the medieval period, when Marie was writing.
The title Equitan is also the name of the king of the story. The king has a great love of hunting and
war. According to the Book of Beasts, this is a natural

What is Ethic Really Like in Wider Professional Circles? The individual interviewed was a

for sterile processing and have been there for over 16 years. The interviewee was asked multiple
questions about the professional group they represent, their code of conduct, and their mission as a

facility itself and the staff within the hospital. Fostoria Hospitals mission statement is short but
meaningful. It is on all of the staff member name tags and all around the hospital for people to
see. The statement says, Our mission is to improve your health and well being . Yes, this may
seem like an obvious statement, they are health care providers so their mission should be to
improve health and well being of others, but that is all the mission statement needs to say. The
health care providers act on everything else that is not said in the statement. The hospital is also a
diverse group of staff workers and patients. The interviewee said that every year they have an
annual diversity lunch in, where they have different types of food from other cultures to represent
the diversity at the hospital. The gender ratio for the hospital consists of mainly women. The
females usually consist of the nurses, receptionist, dietetics, kitchen and offices. The men usually

Case Study On Industry Attractiveness
Investigating into Industry Attractiveness for Unilever Food Solutions
As mentioned in the Strategic Scope, UFS mainly caters to the B2B or the industry segment. This
section assesses the industry and the attractiveness in which UFS operates in. The main players and
giants in the industry are namely, Edinborough, Nestle and UFS. Considering the product portfolio,
Edinborough is the market leader which has a strong customer base. Nevertheless, UFS holds the
fifth revenue generator in the market and the fourth based on the customer base.
Porter s Five Forces
Porter s five forces model is used to assess the Industry in which UFS operated in. With this
analysis, overall attractiveness of the industry is addressed. To do so, Porter s criteria of industry
attractiveness should be assessed, namely, the threat of new entrants, threat of substitutes,
bargaining power of buy and supplier and the competitive players. Based on these criteria, the
attractiveness is mapped onto the radar chart. This way, a brief view of industry attractive can be
surmised by a simple Likert scale.

A Visit to the Notre Dame Cathedral
The Notre Dame Cathedral is certainly one of the most beautiful locations in the world, as the city
of Paris as a whole and the building s surroundings contribute to making visitors acknowledge the
importance of this monument. Construction on the cathedral started in 1163 and was largely
finished by 1250, with most of its features emphasizing Gothic influences. The building s
architecture, the sculptures present in it, and the impressive stained glassall stand as reminders that
the French community invested most of its cultural values into the church at the time when it was
constructed.
From the very first moment when entering the cathedral one is likely to be struck by the silence
dominating the massive interior. In spite of the somewhat annoying number of curious tourists
(others probably saw my curiosity just as annoying as the noise), the church manages to maintain its
quiet and peaceful nature. This is truly remarkable, taking into account that it is constantly filled
with tourists through visiting hours.
It is difficult to ignore the fact that the Notre Dame is one of most popular monuments in the world
and that many visitors prefer this particular building to the Eiffel Tower. Its popularity certainly
makes it difficult for one to feel the sacredness that it contains and that it was initially meant to put
across. The fact that so many visitors walk through its entrance every day diminishes its value
somewhat, especially considering that many of them fail to

users but as many as fifty users have same distance from the recommender. Then we use the
probability function and set a threshold value 2 this will identify the best two users for the best

How Did Alexander Hamilton Influence Today
In the late 1700s, Alexander Hamilton was appointed Secretary of Treasury by George Washington.
It can be assessed whether or not Alexander Hamilton was more influential than George Washington
in those first years under the Constitution. Alexander Hamilton set up multiple ways to pay off the
nation s immense debt. Hamilton founded the Bank of the United Stateswhich is known today as the
Federal Reserve System. Hamilton influence also extended into making the United States a
commercial nation instead of an agrarian one. George Washington s influential years came before
the constitution, before and during the American Revolution. Alexander Hamiltonwas more
influential than George Washington in the first years under the constitution because he was the

Hamilton had a vast majority of ideas; from combining state and national debt to the whiskey tax.
Now, these two examples had a fair amount of opposition, but each was adopted. Combining state
and national debt not only forced every American citizen, no matter if their state had paid off their
debt or not, to pay taxes and gave the government more money. This financial plan also gave the
government itself stronger, more steady footing in running the new country.
The Bank of the United States was mainly protested because of its modelling after the Bank of
England. Hamilton s main purpose of founding this bank was to prevent inflation. This was done
by having the bank issue currency so that Congress did not print off more money to pay off debt
and cause inflation. The Bank of the United States shows explicitly how influential Hamilton was
during this time because this bank stabilized the country then and is known as the Federal Reserve

McCarthy did this through various literary devices.McCarthy s dark themes, original Southern

How Liberals Are Ruining College
My Thoughts on How Liberals are Ruining College This to me can be summed up in one word:
sad. It s truly saddening to me that we ve become this way. Where everything is taken to the most
extreme levels and assumed to be hate speech or that it of course must be meant in the worst
possible way. There are of course times where people do take things too far and mean them in the
worst of ways. Although, that is not what this is about. This is about the destruction of free speech
to the extent of teaching people to might as well not have free thinking. We might as well go

The Impact Of Privacy On The Internet
As technology continues to advance, the world continues to shrink. Information can be easily
obtained with a click of a mouse. Since this information is keystrokes away, how can individuals or
businesses monitor this public information on the Internet? Can this accessible information violate
an individual s privacy? First, the word privacy is defined in numerous ways from an individual or
business perspective. Based on these different views of privacy, this can impact operations or
people s life.
The definition of privacy for a business is to collect information about its customers, but respect
the customer s privacy. Businesses took the concern of individual s privacy a long time ago, and
created a section of the business for privacy ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
According to McCreary, that growth rate reflects more than just a greater appreciation of privacy
protection as a business responsibility (McCreary pg.5, 2008). The rise of these executive positions
and organizations is due to privacy regulations that impact businesses.
With privacy laws, businesses can collect people s personal information, analyze it, but the
business has to be within reason. Before these privacy laws, business were able to collect all the
information that the company can access and use that information to their advantage. If the
information leaked out or was stolen, the business did not have to disclose the issue with the
public or even the company s customers. Now, businesses have to release to the public on any
breaches of security such as their privacy. When California passed legislation in 2003, companies
were obligated to alert them to a breach at the earliest reasonable moment after it was discovered
(McCreary pg.6, 2008). After this regulation was passed, other states began to adopt their own
mandates of security to protect individual s privacy.
Ultimately, this changed how business analyzed their risk equation. Businesses would have to face
the consequences when information is breached, and the reputation from its customers. Enterprises
are trying to be proactive when collecting, storing and protecting an individual s data. A privacy

Comparison Of Hektor And The Death Of Ravana
Bella (Liu Yuxiao)
Mr. Holbrook
World Literature
Oct. 18th, 2015
Different narrative styles make texts draw readers attention from different aspects
Being the oral texts, both The Death of Hektor and The Death of Ravana uses the repetitive
phrases to make people remember the stories easily; however, those two texts have distinct styles of
narration. In The Death of Hektor, the primary style of narration is dialogical. One of the
advantages to insert dialogue in text is to make the story more vivid and realistic than any others;
for example, the conversation between Achilleus and Hektor is like this
Achilleus, And it was I; and I have broken your strength; on you the dogs and the vultures shall
feed and foully rip you; the Achaians will bury Patroklos. (The Illiad, Book 2, line 334 335)
Hektor, I entreat you, by your life, by your knees, by your parents, do not let the dogs feed on me
by the ships of the Achaians. (The Illaid, Book 2, line 338 339) ... Show more content on

In The Death of Ravana, the story focuses on the description of object an arrow. This style of
narration leaves more spaces to readers for their imagination; the elaborative description of the
arrow, for instance, blazing arrow which, as he did so, made a hissing sound like that of a snake
(Ramayana, Book 6, line 9 10), and its shaft was made of cosmic space; and the mountains Meru
and Mandara lent it their weight (Ramayana, Book 6, line 17 18). Those descriptions make readers

Susan Glaspell’s Trifles Essay
The first reading I enjoyed was Susan Glaspell s Trifles . The main character in the plat is a
sheriff, his wife, the county attorney, and Mr. and Mrs. Hale. The opening scene is all of them in
John Wright s kitchen. Mr. Hale tells the sheriff and attorney how he a visited the house on the
day before day and Mrs. Wright greeted him but her demeanor was little suspicions. She told him
that her husband was upstairs dead. She says she was asleep when someone choked her husband to
death. All the men suspect she is the murderer. While the men look for evidence in the house they
criticize Mrs. Wright s housekeeping skills and that really irritates Mrs. Hale and Mrs. Peter, the
sheriff s wife. While the men continue to look around the house,... Show more content on

Treatise On Pornography
An Open Secret: A Treatise on Pornography
In the 1980s in America, a war raged. There were casualties and broken lives. What transpired
during that war changed the face of America for generations. This was not a war between countries
however; this was a war between women: what they called the The Feminist Sex Wars . Anti porn
feminists led by Andrea Dworkin debated with pro sex feminists on subjects such as prostitution,
erotica, and pornography and their position within feminism and our society. Dworkin and her
supporters argued that these were products of a patriarchal society, that these were extremely
harmful toward the image and status of women. Others such as Susie Bright argue that prostitution
and pornography can be feminist or empowering to women, and are not intrinsically harmful. In
this paper, I will endorse the view of radical feminists that pornography is harmful, not only for
those who appear in it, but those who consume it.
Before we explore the topic of pornography and its harms, we must look at what radical feminism
is. Radical feminism, the theory espoused by leading critic of pornography Andrea Dworkin, is the
idea that women are biological class which oppressed by the dominant class of men. Patriarchal
power surrounds women completely, through all media and institutions. According to radical
feminists, it is only through the complete destruction of all patriarchal institutions can women truly
be free. It is through this lens that the anti porn

Julie Andrews, James Earl Jones, And Jim Parsons
If one would to ask you how Julie Andrews, James Earl Jones, and Jim Parsons have anything in
common, the simplest answer besides them all having a name that start with a J, is that they re
among the many actors and actresses that enjoy successful careers both on stage and on screen.
Although film acting differs from stage acting, the practice can still equip an actorto excel at both.
But the point at hand is still at question, just how do these two different forms of entertainment both
come together with their similarities, but yet separate when it comes to their differences?
Well, for starters, The biggest difference between acting for stage versus acting for screen is the
location of the audience. In a theatre, the stage tends to be far away from the audience. Depending
on the size of the theatre, the actors need to exaggerate their facial expressions and gestures so
even the people towards the back of the theatre can see what s going on. For example, actors
cannot express sadness with just a single tear onstage, since only the audience members closest to
the stage will see it, leaving everyone else in a world of confusion as to what is going on right in
front of them.
When acting on screen, however, the camera can get extremely close to the actor, which closes the
gap between the audience and the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For each live theatre performance, actors have just one chance to get thing in order before they
get on stage to perform. That s why it is so important to have a strong and healthy voice, and to
ensure that lines are memorized. Depending on the show or production budget, microphones may
or may not be used during a performance. Even with a microphone, actors must practice and
perform their lines accurately each time, with crisp diction and clear enunciation. In musicals,
actors must get their notes and lyrics correct on the first try. There are no do overs during a live

The Film Grizzly Man
The film Grizzly Man aims to demonstrate the common cliche, not everything is how it seems. It
follows a man of the name Timothy Treadwell: his life before his death, his actual death, and the
impact of his death. He spent 13 summers of his life within close proximity of grizzly bears until
one takes his life. Before this event, the public only knew him as a passionate nature enthusiast,
with his focus mainly on bears. They found entertainment in watching a cheerful idiot embracing
these animals as friends. However, the film makes an effort to show that Treadwell has more depth
as a person by examining his past and consulting with those close to him for why his life lead up to
this point. Though there is an benevolent intention in his actions,

Thank You MaAm Short Story
Thank You, Ma am by Langston Hughes She was a large woman with a large purse that had
everything in it but hammer and nails. It had a long strap, and she carried it slung across her
shoulder. It was about eleven o clock at night, and she was walking alone, when a boy ran up
behind her and tried to snatch her purse. The strap broke with the single tug the boy gave it from
behind. But the boy s weight and the weight of the purse combined caused him to lose his
balance so, instead of taking off full blast as he had hoped, the boy fell on his back on the
sidewalk, and his legs flew up. The large woman simply turned around and kicked him right
square in his blue jeaned sitter. Then she reached down, picked the boy up by his shirt front, and
shook him until his teeth rattled. After that the woman said, Pick up my pocketbook, boy, and
give it here. She still held him. Butshe bent down enough to permit him to stoop and pick up her
purse. Then she said, Now ain t you ashamed of yourself? Firmly gripped by his shirt front, the
boy said, Yes m. The woman said, What did you want to do it for? The boy said, I didn t aim to.
She said, You a lie! By that time two or three people passed, stopped, turned to look, and some

Firms that utilize market segmentation, targeting, and positioning strategy have recognized that
their product can be focused on specific portions of the market. Thus enabling the most successful
marketing of their product. These firms operate under a consideration that they are not marketing
their product onto the entire market but just onto specific portions, in order to tailor their marketing

not an approach that all firms can rely for success as their products must fit within the requirements

Diabetic Neuropathy Essay
Diabetic peripheral neuropathy is among the chronic microvascular complications of diabetes
mellitus due to hyperglycemia. Prevalence of diabetic neuropathy is high, affecting more than 60%
of diabetics (Boulton et al., 2005). The clinical manifestation of diabetic neuropathy include
numbness, tingling sensation in toes, feet, legs, arms, hands and fingers (Kumar et al.). It leads to
significant morbidity, impact on quality of life of patients (Zychowska et al.) and increases the risk
of infections leading to the foot ulcers and non traumatic amputations (Bansal et al.). In diabetic

It leads to the reduced coupling efficiency in mitochondria and increased superoxide radical
generation damaging both nuclear DNA and mitochondrial DNA leading to activation of poly ADP
ribose polymerase enzyme (PARP) (Fernyhough et al.Brownlee, 2001; Nishikawa et al., 2000b, to
be added). PARP activation leads to inactivation of AMPK which facilitates mitochondrial
biogenesis. Thus, PARP activation compromises the cellular mitochondrial genesis which leads to
accumulation of damaged mitochondria in the cell. Molecular studies have revealed the
involvement of transcriptional regulators such as Nrf2, NF ОєB, and COX 2 inflammatory cascade
in the pathology of diabetic neuropathy. The Nuclear factor 2 erythroid related factor (Nrf2) is a
redox transcription factor for the production of endogenous antioxidant defenses and detoxifying
enzymes. Nuclear factor kappa light chain enhancer of ОІ cells(NF ОєB) is a transcription factor,
involved in pro inflammatory cytokine production (Negi et al.). Both Nrf2 and NF ОєB regulation
are co ordinated in order to maintain redox homeostasis in healthy cells. However, during
pathological conditions this regulation is disturbed offering an opportunity for therapeutic
intervention. Diabetic neuropathy is a condition , in which change in expression pattern of Nrf2

The Nordic Creation Myth
Much of the information about the Norse religion derives from Edda, which were a compilation of
Norse poem, gathered in Iceland during the Middle Ages (Lemonick and Dorfman). In Norse
Mythology, the world was created when Odin and his brothers slew the Frost Giant Ymir, and it
will end when the Giants rise against Odinand his comrades and kill them in battle. Nordic culture
was deeply centered on war, the only way one could enter Valhalla (the warrior s paradise) was to
die courageously in battle. Violence was a constant in their mythology, even love was accompanied
by murder, and treachery. Despite the harshness of death, friendship, drinking, eating, making love,
avenging wrongs, and fighting bravely was highly regarded (Citation). Nordic... Show more content

The gods would die when the Giants and demons rose against them. The last fight would take
place at Vigrid, a field one hundred miles in length and breadth (Ashliman). Odin would be
swallowed by Fenrir the wolf, but his son would avenge him. Thor and the Midgard Serpent would
destroy each other; so would Loki and Heimdall; and Tyr would slay Garm, the fierce dog of
Niflheim, and be clawed to death in turn. The stars and all heavenly bodies would plummet from
the sky as the earth sank beneath the sea. In Nordic mythology this was the end of time when all
existence would be destroyed. From the ashes of the old world, the Nameless One would give
birth to a new world beyond the edge of time (Ashliman). Nordic mythology shares several

Many rules are taken into account during flag football games, however, there are certain rules
that serve more significance than others, or are regarded more than others. Usually, depending
on the variation of the game, there are five to 10 players to a side. The game lasts around forty
minutes to one hour, depending on the length of the four quarters the game consists of (quarters
can be different intervals such as ten minutes to fifteen minutes). If there is a tie game, it goes
into overtime, and the first team to score a touch down wins. In terms of legally stopping the
opposing player by pulling off the flag attached to their belt, there are certain rules. Holding up

Contracts And Contracts Of Contracts
Introduction We enter into contracts every day. Taking a seat in the taxi amounts to entering into
a contract. You go to a bar to drink some beers, you have entered a contract though we might not
realise that we have entered into a contract. In the commercial world services and goods are
normally purchased for resale or consumption. Usually the buyer and the seller will negotiate the
terms of the purchase before they enter a transaction which will result in the sale. Trading involves
financial risk therefore it is in the interest of all to have recognizable set of rules by which each
party agrees and abides to. All business naturally deal with contracts, these contracts can either be
unwritten or written. A contract is a legally binding... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
To create a contractual relationship both parties must intend their agreement to have legal
consequences. Cases where parties of the agreement have not clearly expressed their intentions it
will be left to the courts to judge whether they intended to get into a contract. An agreement of a
purely social or domestic nature is not a contract. A good example is the Balfour v. Balfour (1919)
case whereby the husband agreed to pay ВЈ30 to his wife every month while he was abroad. As he
failed to pay the promised amount, his wife sued him for the recovery of the amount. The court
held that she could not recover it because it was social agreement and the parties did not intend to
create any legal relations. Nonetheless, even in the case of agreements of purely social or domestic
nature, there may be intention of the parties to create legal obligations. In such cases the social
agreement is intended to have legal consequences which results in a contract. In commercial and
business agreements the law will presume that the parties entering into agreement intend those
agreements to have legal consequences. A contract may be oral or in writing. If a certain type of
contract is required by law to be in writing, it must comply with the necessary formalities as to
writing, registration and attestation. If these legal formalities are not

Morals In City Of Lost Souls By Cassandra Clare
The book, City of Lost Souls written by Cassandra Clare, is about a girl named Clary, who is
half angel half human. Clary needs to save her lover Jace who has been brainwashed by her evil
brother Sebastian. Clary must stop Sebastian from summoning an army of demons and starting a
war between good and evil. When I read this novel, I felt envious. I felt this because the
ShadowHunters had so many supernatural abilities compared to humans. For example when we
learn that ShadowHunters are half human half Angel which means that they have the ability to
draw runes etc. Runes are drawings that give them certain powers, for example becoming
stronger, becoming invisible and healing etc. This would be awesome if I had the ability to
become invisible or have supernatural strength so that day to day routines would become easier. If
i had these powers I would use them to help people in distress, like a modern superman.... Show

The author seemed to be suggesting that power hungry individuals will do anything to gain their
goals without caring about collateral damage. We see this in the text when Sebastian forces the
Iron sisters to make the Infernal cup. The infernal cup is the opposite to the mortal cup and is
made with blood from a powerful demon named Lilith. The infernal cup turns Shadowhunters
into Dark Shadowhunter and replaces their Angel blood with demon blood, making them evil.
This proves that people hungry for power will do anything and use anybody to get more power.
People that hunger for power want power because they feel like they have to be in control. An
example of somebody who is power hungry is Kim Jong Un. I believe that this kind of behaviour
is not acceptable in today s society and should not be tolerated, because people need to be working

Elizabethan Era Masquerade
Masques and Masquerades of the Elizabethan Era 1. History behind the Masques and
Masquerades The masque which the idea wasn t originated in the Elizabethan era was taken from
the design and style of the Italian Renaissance in the 15th century. There were also performers
called Mummers during the early medieval times that would reenact stories all in mime. They re
attire wasn t nearly as embellished as those in the Elizabethan era they usually just kept it simple
especially the masks weren t decorated whatsoever, the main purpose of them was to primarily keep
the performers face hidden.. Masques then developed into a form of entertainment for the
Elizabethan court members and they had actors that would dress up elaborately with these intricate
embellished masks. They would precede to perform songs and dances retelling stories/speeches
most of the time it was to honor the Queen and if it was dedicated to her she would attend them.
But, other occasions the theme would be pastoral, fairytales, or portraying mythological tales. 2.

Skopos Theory And Peircean Semiotics In Translation Analysis
Part Three: The Operation of the Combination of Skopos Theory and Peircean Semiotics in
Translation
In order to make a clearer statement of the operation of the combination of the skopos theory and
peircean semiotics in translation, the author would use the translations of Sonnet 18 as an example.
Some great translators and litterateurs have had several excellent translations for the Sonnet 18, so,
the author would not compare the different translations but only analyse the process of translating
the word summer of the first sentence in the quatrain I in this famous poetry.
Quatrainв… пјљ
AпјљShall I compare thee to a summer s day?
BпјљThouart more lovely and more temperate.
AпјљRough winds do shake the darling buds of May,
BпјљAnd summer s lease hath all too short a date.(Shakespeare, 1996)
Some translators interpret summer as 夏天, whereas some critics criticize that this summer
should be the spring ж Ґе¤© . Some critics think that the summer s day here should be interpreted
as spring, or the summer s day in Britain actually corresponds to the spring of China, and the
Chinese interpret it as summer is an interesting problem.
Middle English does not have words to specifically refer to spring and fall terms, so the term
summer (usually spelled sumer or somer) refers to both spring and summer, and the word winter
usually refers to autumn and winter. Accordingly, some translators and critics believe that the term
summer is also must interpreted as spring in Shakespeare s Sonnets.
In Shakespeare s sonnets, spring has occurred six times (see 1: 10,53: 9,63: 8,98: 1,102: 5,104: 4);
summer appears 20 times (see 13 poems including the 18th); autumn appears 2 times (see 97:
6,104: 5) and winter appears 10 times (see 2, 5, , 13, 56, 97, 98 and 104, etc.), and more poems

Family Structure In Post-War Britian Essay
World War ЗЃ was a global military event, the most colossal conflict in history lasting from 1939
1945, it involved most of the worlds nations including Great Britain. WWII had far reaching
implications for most of the world. The following essay will demonstrate the changes the UK
family has undergone since World War З
Ѓ,the following essay will also throw light upon the
changes in familytypes, economic activities of women , power distribution, laws and sexuality
with respect to disciplines of sociology, economics, history and politics. Family used to be a single
unit, consisting of a husband, wife and children. This unit was widely thought as a group based on

. More importance was given to the wife rather than the husband, as a companion and producer
of children The family shows both continuity and changes which can be seen by looking at
nuclear families and single parent families respectively. Before 1940s, marriage was considered
an important part of society and thought to be a social institution essential for order. Divorce
and single parent families were considered dreadful, sex outside marriage was not acceptable, it
was a moral offense. The tempo of divorces was very low, but this social behavior soon ended in
the post war era. By 1960s, this was no longer the case, as women started to work. They became
much more independent, laws were changed and increase in divorces and cohabitation rates had
shown that marriage was not compulsory in one s life. Family structure has been changed and
there is about one and a quarter million single parents. A family making up to 19% of all
families with children, the number of single parents has almost doubled since the early 1970s.
According to census 2001 report and labor force survey, the rate of married couple (marriages)
has decreased over the last ten years, (accounting for 71 per cent of families in 2006, compared
with 76 per cent in 1996). In the same period, the proportion of cohabiting couple increased to 14
per cent from 9 per cent. The proportion of lone parent families increased by less than one per cent
over this period, but the

Ellen Ripley Analysis
Ellen Ripley in the movie shows how a female can do just as much as anyone, and on top of that
willing to fight for the better good and destroy the aliens in order to keep other families safe.
Ripley for one in the beginning of the movie stood her ground on the course of events that
happened on the ship when the attack happened. Ripley stayed true to her word. Not only does
Ripley go and fight, she showed remorse of the loss of her daughter and she has survivors regret
which makes her more personable. But she is able to fight past all that and use her old job
experience to help load the ship to land on LV46. A little point I did notice is the minimal use of
beauty products from Ripley, she is all natural faced. The point I want to make from this was how
people correlate the amount of beauty products used to shallowness and it added to the idea that
Ripley is not shallow and a caring person.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
With the females on the unit all are more masculine with the muscles, attitudes, how they carry
themselves. One main point is the way even the females talk, Vasquez asking one member if he
was a man because he asked her if she was ever mistaken for a man. You can tell the tension
among the unit was a little thick at first but you can tell the unit itself, they re all cool and got each
other s backs. The initial treatment towards Ripley was more hostile then expected, with the
members making comments on her not eating with them, Vasquez interrupting Ripley while she is
talking about the severity of this case can be once they enter the area, Vasquez calling Ripley Snow

The Legacy Of Lincoln Electric Company Culture
Lincoln Electric Company Culture
In 1906 John C. Lincoln incorporated his business East Cleveland, Ohio forming what we know
today as the Lincoln Electric Company. Though the company started out as a relatively small
operation, it is now one of the largest producers of welding Machines and electrodes. Branching
out from Cleveland, Ohio the company now has more factories in U.S. as well as in other
countries. The company s success has be attributes to several different factors, one of which is the
company s unique culture.
Founder s Influence
An organization s culture can be defined as the system of shared assumptions, values, and beliefs
that show people what is appropriate and inappropriate behavior . Lincoln s culture has with stood
the test of time. The current business culture s roots can be traced back to its founder s younger
brother. James F. Lincoln was the figurehead of the company in the 1900 s assuming the titles of
General Manger and Vice President. It was James who helped mold the company philosophy. His
Christian principles and facilitation of multiple incentive and employee lead programs had a
profoundly lasting effect on the company even after his death. In his wake he left a mix of business
culture types/practices and artifacts to demonstrate those early principles and vision; that make up
Lincoln s highly effective organizational culture profile.

Thematic Symbols In The Film Silence Of The Lambs
One of the most successful horror films of all time, Silence of the Lambs has always been
something of a mystery. Themes of government sponsored brainwashing in the creation of serial
killers are so expertly hidden in plain sight. It is for this reason that Silence of the Lambs may be
considered one of the most rebellious and thrilling movies ever made. Perhaps the first image
people encountered, when the movie premiered in 1991, was the poster. It shows Jodie Foster s
face with a moth covering her mouth. Her eyes, usually blue, are red. Close examination of the faux
skull markings on the moth s head, reveals the skull to be made up of seven naked women. The
moth and its cousin the butterfly are probably the most important thematic symbols... Show more

Ed Gein began robbing graves keeping body parts as trophies, practicing necrophilia, and
experimenting with human taxidermy. Gein took the women s bodies back to his farm, peeled off
their faces and preserved the skin by putting oil on them. Gein would wear the faces and stare at
himself, dressing up with wigs jewelry and fake breasts. He then turned to murder, killing at least
two women in 1957. Gein inspired film characters Norman Bates (Psycho), James Gumb (The
Silence of the Lambs) and Leatherface (Texas Chainsaw Massacre).
It would be very convenient to be able to attribute all the horrible things that Hannibal does to the
fact that he s a sick psychopath with no redeeming features whatsoever. And for the most part, this
is the picture painted by the surface narrative. One look through the bullet proof glass, however,
reveals this to be another rather clever piece of staging.
At Crawford s first mention of the word Hannibal, Clarice automatically recites, what is now one
of the most recognizable catch phrases of the film Hannibal the Cannibal. We find out quite early
on that Hannibal eats his victims or his evidence so there s an obvious explanation for his
moniker. It could be argued that Harris was indeed taking a metaphorical swipe at programs like
MK Ultra that seek to use trauma to control a civilian person s mind so they can be used to commit

Crib Bedding Setting
Nautical Crib Bedding Sets for Boys
Creating the ideal nursery is always an exciting, yet challenging, thing to do, especially when it
comes to decorating for a little boy. Most people want their little girls to be little princesses, but
their little boys to be little men. They do not want to fill a nursery with baby ish items. They want
for it to look like a young man s room. Perhaps that is why so many parents choose nautical crib
bedding sets for boys.
Why Parents Choose the Nautical Theme
There is something very cool and relaxing about a nautical themed room. It is a style that is kind
of preppy, but casually fun at the same time. It can be cute with cartoony whales and other sea
creatures or it can be more grown up with anchors and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Do you like the idea of anchors over whales? Do you want boats that look like they were drawn by
a child or would you prefer to keep it more realistic looking? There are a lot of choices for you to
make and if you want it all to match up right, you should choose the bedding set first, since in
general, the crib is the focal point of any nursery. To give you a head start and a few ideas to
consider, you should take a look at what other parents have decided is the best nautical baby crib
bedding. This will show you what is available and perhaps spark a little creativity within you.
Just Born High Seas Crib Bedding Set
This three piece crib bedding set includes a comforter, a fitted sheet, and a crib skirt. It is blue
stripes, tiny whales, and anchors mixed together to create a very cute crib set. Also, because it
is such a basic set, it gives you the option to decorate a room around it that is very versatile and
virtually anything will go with the crib bedding. It is all made of 100% cotton to ensure it is easy
to clean and will always look great.

Development Of A Forest That Is Dominated By Sugar Maple
Abstract
Students conducted research relating to mechanisms of coexistence within a forest that is
dominated by sugar maple (Acer saccharum) compared to beech (Fagus grandifolia). The objective
of the study was to test three hypotheses relating to competition within trees, maintenance along
with regeneration of sugar maple and beech within Warren Woods, located in Michigan, IL. The
first evaluated whether or not highly despotic forms of lottery completion was present, in which a
few trees ever achieve canopy. Second, in response to competition, canopy trees were evaluated in
terms of being uniformly or randomly distributed within their unique environment. Third, evidence
of tradeoffs as both types of trees make their way up to a canopy was assessed. From the plots
established and analyzing through density and frequency, students examined that sugar maple was
more abundant, viewed in large fractions among the sub canopy classes. Beech may have had a
lower frequency, yet it had a higher density in Warren Woods. Evidence suggested that there was a
lottery competition taking place in the forest, as seen by the number of seedlings being higher than
saplings, which are greater than sub canopies, which are greater than canopies. The evaluation of
the understory environment determined that a mechanism of coexistence, between both species,
was evident since the number of canopies was higher than that of sub canopies. Each class appears
to coexist well with one another while

Social Comparison Essay On Fast
When we want to evaluate something we really only have one tool to use: Comparison. Even with
empirical, objective, means of measurement, without context, a measurement would mean nothing.
Is your car fast? If you ve only ever driven a Yugo before, you might say it s pretty fast, but if you
just took a ride in a Bugatti Veyron, you might have a new definition of fast. Social Comparison
Theory is the idea that the same way you determine whether your car is fast, is the exact same way
you determine your own attributes.
We are constantly looking to others to evaluate and determine our adequacy. When we look to
people of higher status it is called upward social comparison, when looking at those of lower
status it s called downward social comparison. While social media and celebrity culture provide
many opportunities for people to compare upwards, generally most people prefer to ... Show more

It keeps up with traffic on surface streets, but its fifty years old, and it was built for the highways
of fifty years ago. Driving on today s highways is not exactly the definition of a stress free
environment. But every other month I get to go out with a classic British car club on what we
call runs . A line of ten to thirty classic cars, going on Sunday drives, through the mountains at
about fifty miles an hour. Basically, modern traffic can suck it. But without fail, there is always
one guy in a 2002 Jaguar XK8 tagging along with us. I hate that guy. When I have the chance I will
pick a point in line as far away from him as possible, preferably next to a Triumph Spitfire. Why?
Because the TR4 and the Spitfire were sold as his and hers cars, and the Spitfire was hers. This is
what downward social comparison looks like. If I were to drive with the 370 horsepower Jaguar I
would be constantly reminded of my 110 horsepower car s inferiority, however next to the 69
horsepower Spitfire I m reminded of its

Companies are ought not to be treated as persons because they are solely created to fulfill the purpose of generating profits and indeed have no extra responsibilities to the society. To achieve democracy, corporation involvement in politics must be avoided. Corporate responsibilities to the public are better addressed in the democratic process than inside corporate boardrooms. (Reich, 668). Large corporations tend to influence political decisions due to the financial incentives given to politicians. If companies take part in the political system, governments are likely to change... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... There are those goods and practices that cannot be bought according to Sandel even though there is fairness. For example, there are certain types of happiness cannot be bought such as a loveable family and true lifelong friends. Love is a natural feeling of affection that cannot have a price to it. Even though someone can buy friends, the feeling is not the same as the natural affection of love from a true friend. On the other hand, individuals perceive happiness in different ways. Some individuals view happiness in form of possessing material wealth and others do not. In conclusion, free market capitalism has created an opportunity for individuals in society and paved way for people to enjoy a lot of goods and services produced and sold through the market exchange. However, capitalism has created many negative consequences since it is mainly concerned with maximizing profits and minimizing costs. These negatives consequences in most cases eventually outweighed positive outcomes especially affecting democracy. For instance, equality of all people has been induced negatively leading to ... • 3. My Best Friend Growing Up Running head: TEACHING PAPER1 Pharmacology Teaching Paper Kendra Holdener Maryville University INTRODUCTION Kasia was and still is my best friend growing up. We had gone on several vacations together with each other s families. Then there was one vacation that I went with her on right before our senior year of high school. Her family has a passion for flying, they have three planes now and Kasia had planned on becoming a commercial pilot. Because of their passion for flying they go to Oshkosh, Wisconsin every summer for the EAA AirVenture, which is a big flight convention outdoors. I went with them one year and I started to notice some things with Kasia. I noticed that she was constantly going to the bathroom and with every glass of water I had she would have had three. I pointed this out to her and told her that she should go see a doctor. I did not know what was wrong with her I just knew there was something wrong with her. Six months later she went to the doctor for a flight physical to make sure she was healthy enough to become a pilot. They tested her blood sugar and it was in the 700s. On April 23 2014 Kasia was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes. Type 1 Diabetes is when someone becomes dependent on insulin in order to keep them from becoming hyperglycemic. Type 1 Diabetes occurs when the beta cells in the pancreas destroy themselves or the immune system attacks them and kills them (Sommers, 2015). This form of diabetes is not caused by obesity and ... • 4. The Play Our Town The play Our Town was something so unique and simple, but it somehow found a way to relate with everyone. Its simplicity seemed to be a hit or miss with many audience members. It was one of those plays that you relate so much with it you enjoy its minimalistic nature, or you find it too typical and boring. I happen to be among the group that found this play to be very appealing. I feel that at many times, little to no scenery and props make it hard to visualize the scene of a play. However, with Our Town the addition of a stage manager to give an explanation of each scene made up for that entirely. The stage manager of the playhad to be my absolutely favorite character. I found him witty and expressive. He made his voice emit the right type of sound when articulating his point. Even his facial expressions matched the mood his character was meant to be in. He fit his character so well that if it weren t for him, I wouldn t have enjoyed the play as much as I did. As a whole he was a great actor. He did all the right gestures and made his acting feel so natural. It was like he was having a conversation with the audience. I think the element of his character is what created a connection with the play and myself. Another actor that was suitable for his character was the one who played Howie Newsome, the milkman. His character was very fascinating in how he managed to act along with the sound effects, and was on time. He was very enthusiastic in his scenes. For example, every ... In Sir Gawain and the Green Knight and the Lais of Marie de France, the authors use animals as metaphors for human actions, and as characters. By analyzing the use of these animals, we are able to explore the meaning the authors were trying to communicate through specific scenes. The Book of Beasts, a translation by T.H. White (1984 ed.), provides a medieval standpoint when analyzing the use of animals in the Lais and in Gawain. In Sir Gawain and the Green Knight, there is specific use of three animals as metaphors for human actions. These animals are the deer, boar, and fox. A fox will feign death in order to snatch up carrion eaters for his food, which is similar, as the author claims, to the devil. The devil snatches up people who live in the flesh, or by the doings of the foxy body (pg 54). In this seduction scene, Gawain is tempted one last time by the Lady, who seems to live in the flesh. Her major role in Gawain s visits has been as a temptress trying to make Gawain her lover. By Gawain s reaction, it seems that her flirting may be working on him when he states: So faultless her features... / His heart swelled swiftly with surging joys / ...Each joyed in other s sight (lines 1761 1767) Yet again, he is able to reject her temptation and the pleasures of the flesh. He states that he has no lover, and will not have one for quite some time. The Lady is disappointed but leaves stating that she must at least give him some token of affection. Gawain accepts the sash, for which he later feels guilty and confesses. In The Lais of Marie de France, there are several animals used as both metaphors and characters. Four lais that include the use of animals are Equitan, Bisclavert, Yonec and Laustic. White s translation states that equi is the name for a horse in the medieval period, when Marie was writing. The title Equitan is also the name of the king of the story. The king has a great love of hunting and war. According to the Book of Beasts, this is a natural ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 11. A Visit to the Notre Dame Cathedral The Notre Dame Cathedral is certainly one of the most beautiful locations in the world, as the city of Paris as a whole and the building s surroundings contribute to making visitors acknowledge the importance of this monument. Construction on the cathedral started in 1163 and was largely finished by 1250, with most of its features emphasizing Gothic influences. The building s architecture, the sculptures present in it, and the impressive stained glassall stand as reminders that the French community invested most of its cultural values into the church at the time when it was constructed. From the very first moment when entering the cathedral one is likely to be struck by the silence dominating the massive interior. In spite of the somewhat annoying number of curious tourists (others probably saw my curiosity just as annoying as the noise), the church manages to maintain its quiet and peaceful nature. This is truly remarkable, taking into account that it is constantly filled with tourists through visiting hours. It is difficult to ignore the fact that the Notre Dame is one of most popular monuments in the world and that many visitors prefer this particular building to the Eiffel Tower. Its popularity certainly makes it difficult for one to feel the sacredness that it contains and that it was initially meant to put across. The fact that so many visitors walk through its entrance every day diminishes its value somewhat, especially considering that many of them fail to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This financial plan also gave the government itself stronger, more steady footing in running the new country. The Bank of the United States was mainly protested because of its modelling after the Bank of England. Hamilton s main purpose of founding this bank was to prevent inflation. This was done by having the bank issue currency so that Congress did not print off more money to pay off debt and cause inflation. Since this information is keystrokes away, how can individuals or businesses monitor this public information on the Internet? Can this accessible information violate an individual s privacy? First, the word privacy is defined in numerous ways from an individual or business perspective. Based on these different views of privacy, this can impact operations or people s life. With privacy laws, businesses can collect people s personal information, analyze it, but the business has to be within reason. Before these privacy laws, business were able to collect all the information that the company can access and use that information to their advantage. If the information leaked out or was stolen, the business did not have to disclose the issue with the public or even the company s customers. Now, businesses have to release to the public on any breaches of security such as their privacy. When California passed legislation in 2003, companies were obligated to alert them to a breach at the earliest reasonable moment after it was discovered (McCreary pg.6, 2008). After this regulation was passed, other states began to adopt their own mandates of security to protect individual s privacy. Ultimately, this changed how business analyzed their risk equation. In The Death of Hektor, the primary style of narration is dialogical. One of the advantages to insert dialogue in text is to make the story more vivid and realistic than any others; for example, the conversation between Achilleus and Hektor is like this Achilleus, And it was I; and I have broken your strength; on you the dogs and the vultures shall feed and foully rip you; the Achaians will bury Patroklos. • 23. Treatise On Pornography An Open Secret: A Treatise on Pornography In the 1980s in America, a war raged. There were casualties and broken lives. What transpired during that war changed the face of America for generations. This was not a war between countries however; this was a war between women: what they called the The Feminist Sex Wars . Anti porn feminists led by Andrea Dworkin debated with pro sex feminists on subjects such as prostitution, erotica, and pornography and their position within feminism and our society. Dworkin and her supporters argued that these were products of a patriarchal society, that these were extremely harmful toward the image and status of women. Others such as Susie Bright argue that prostitution and pornography can be feminist or empowering to women, and are not intrinsically harmful. In this paper, I will endorse the view of radical feminists that pornography is harmful, not only for those who appear in it, but those who consume it. Before we explore the topic of pornography and its harms, we must look at what radical feminism is. Radical feminism, the theory espoused by leading critic of pornography Andrea Dworkin, is the idea that women are biological class which oppressed by the dominant class of men. Patriarchal power surrounds women completely, through all media and institutions. According to radical feminists, it is only through the complete destruction of all patriarchal institutions can women truly be free. It is through this lens that the anti porn ... Julie Andrews, James Earl Jones, And Jim Parsons If one would to ask you how Julie Andrews, James Earl Jones, and Jim Parsons have anything in common, the simplest answer besides them all having a name that start with a J, is that they re among the many actors and actresses that enjoy successful careers both on stage and on screen. Although film acting differs from stage acting, the practice can still equip an actorto excel at both. But the point at hand is still at question, just how do these two different forms of entertainment both come together with their similarities, but yet separate when it comes to their differences? Well, for starters, The biggest difference between acting for stage versus acting for screen is the location of the audience. In a theatre, the stage tends to be far away from the audience. Depending on the size of the theatre, the actors need to exaggerate their facial expressions and gestures so even the people towards the back of the theatre can see what s going on. For example, actors cannot express sadness with just a single tear onstage, since only the audience members closest to the stage will see it, leaving everyone else in a world of confusion as to what is going on right in front of them. When acting on screen, however, the camera can get extremely close to the actor, which closes the gap between the audience and the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... To create a contractual relationship both parties must intend their agreement to have legal consequences. Cases where parties of the agreement have not clearly expressed their intentions it will be left to the courts to judge whether they intended to get into a contract. Balfour (1919) case whereby the husband agreed to pay ВЈ30 to his wife every month while he was abroad. As he failed to pay the promised amount, his wife sued him for the recovery of the amount. The court held that she could not recover it because it was social agreement and the parties did not intend to create any legal relations. Nonetheless, even in the case of agreements of purely social or domestic nature, there may be intention of the parties to create legal obligations. In such cases the social agreement is intended to have legal consequences which results in a contract. In commercial and business agreements the law will presume that the parties entering into agreement intend those agreements to have legal consequences. A contract may be oral or in writing. Clary needs to save her lover Jace who has been brainwashed by her evil brother Sebastian. Clary must stop Sebastian from summoning an army of demons and starting a war between good and evil. When I read this novel, I felt envious. I felt this because the ShadowHunters had so many supernatural abilities compared to humans. For example when we learn that ShadowHunters are half human half Angel which means that they have the ability to draw runes etc. Runes are drawings that give them certain powers, for example becoming stronger, becoming invisible and healing etc. This would be awesome if I had the ability to become invisible or have supernatural strength so that day to day routines would become easier. Some critics think that the summer s day here should be interpreted as spring, or the summer s day in Britain actually corresponds to the spring of China, and the Chinese interpret it as summer is an interesting problem. Middle English does not have words to specifically refer to spring and fall terms, so the term summer (usually spelled sumer or somer) refers to both spring and summer, and the word winter usually refers to autumn and winter. More importance was given to the wife rather than the husband, as a companion and producer of children The family shows both continuity and changes which can be seen by looking at nuclear families and single parent families respectively. Before 1940s, marriage was considered an important part of society and thought to be a social institution essential for order. Divorce and single parent families were considered dreadful, sex outside marriage was not acceptable, it was a moral offense. The tempo of divorces was very low, but this social behavior soon ended in the post war era. By 1960s, this was no longer the case, as women started to work. They became much more independent, laws were changed and increase in divorces and cohabitation rates had shown that marriage was not compulsory in one s life. Family structure has been changed and there is about one and a quarter million single parents. A family making up to 19% of all families with children, the number of single parents has almost doubled since the early 1970s. According to census 2001 report and labor force survey, the rate of married couple (marriages) has decreased over the last ten years, (accounting for 71 per cent of families in 2006, compared with 76 per cent in 1996). • 43. Ellen Ripley Analysis Ellen Ripley in the movie shows how a female can do just as much as anyone, and on top of that willing to fight for the better good and destroy the aliens in order to keep other families safe. Ripley for one in the beginning of the movie stood her ground on the course of events that happened on the ship when the attack happened. Ripley stayed true to her word. Not only does Ripley go and fight, she showed remorse of the loss of her daughter and she has survivors regret which makes her more personable. But she is able to fight past all that and use her old job experience to help load the ship to land on LV46. A little point I did notice is the minimal use of beauty products from Ripley, she is all natural faced. The point I want to make from this was how people correlate the amount of beauty products used to shallowness and it added to the idea that Ripley is not shallow and a caring person.... You can tell the tension among the unit was a little thick at first but you can tell the unit itself, they re all cool and got each other s backs. The initial treatment towards Ripley was more hostile then expected, with the members making comments on her not eating with them, Vasquez interrupting Ripley while she is talking about the severity of this case can be once they enter the area, Vasquez calling Ripley Snow White in the locker ... • 46. Thematic Symbols In The Film Silence Of The Lambs One of the most successful horror films of all time, Silence of the Lambs has always been something of a mystery. Themes of government sponsored brainwashing in the creation of serial killers are so expertly hidden in plain sight. It is for this reason that Silence of the Lambs may be considered one of the most rebellious and thrilling movies ever made. Perhaps the first image people encountered, when the movie premiered in 1991, was the poster. It shows Jodie Foster s face with a moth covering her mouth. Her eyes, usually blue, are red. Close examination of the faux skull markings on the moth s head, reveals the skull to be made up of seven naked women. The moth and its cousin the butterfly are probably the most important thematic symbols... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Ed Gein began robbing graves keeping body parts as trophies, practicing necrophilia, and experimenting with human taxidermy. Gein took the women s bodies back to his farm, peeled off their faces and preserved the skin by putting oil on them. Gein would wear the faces and stare at himself, dressing up with wigs jewelry and fake breasts. He then turned to murder, killing at least two women in 1957. Gein inspired film characters Norman Bates (Psycho), James Gumb (The Silence of the Lambs) and Leatherface (Texas Chainsaw Massacre). It would be very convenient to be able to attribute all the horrible things that Hannibal does to the fact that he s a sick psychopath with no redeeming features whatsoever. And for the most part, this is the picture painted by the surface narrative. One look through the bullet proof glass, however, reveals this to be another rather clever piece of staging. At Crawford s first mention of the word Hannibal, Clarice automatically recites, what is now one of the most recognizable catch phrases of the film Hannibal the Cannibal. We find out quite early on that Hannibal eats his victims or his evidence so there s an obvious explanation for his moniker. It could be argued that Harris was indeed taking a metaphorical swipe at programs like MK Ultra that seek to use trauma to control a civilian person s mind so they can be used to commit further ... • 48. Development Of A Forest That Is Dominated By Sugar Maple Abstract Students conducted research relating to mechanisms of coexistence within a forest that is dominated by sugar maple (Acer saccharum) compared to beech (Fagus grandifolia). The objective of the study was to test three hypotheses relating to competition within trees, maintenance along with regeneration of sugar maple and beech within Warren Woods, located in Michigan, IL. The first evaluated whether or not highly despotic forms of lottery completion was present, in which a few trees ever achieve canopy. Second, in response to competition, canopy trees were evaluated in terms of being uniformly or randomly distributed within their unique environment. Third, evidence of tradeoffs as both types of trees make their way up to a canopy was assessed. From the plots established and analyzing through density and frequency, students examined that sugar maple was more abundant, viewed in large fractions among the sub canopy classes. Beech may have had a lower frequency, yet it had a higher density in Warren Woods. Evidence suggested that there was a lottery competition taking place in the forest, as seen by the number of seedlings being higher than saplings, which are greater than sub canopies, which are greater than canopies. The evaluation of the understory environment determined that a mechanism of coexistence, between both species, was evident since the number of canopies was higher than that of sub canopies. Each class appears to coexist well with one another while ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 49. Social Comparison Essay On Fast When we want to evaluate something we really only have one tool to use: Comparison. Even with empirical, objective, means of measurement, without context, a measurement would mean nothing. Is your car fast? If you ve only ever driven a Yugo before, you might say it s pretty fast, but if you just took a ride in a Bugatti Veyron, you might have a new definition of fast. Social Comparison Theory is the idea that the same way you determine whether your car is fast, is the exact same way you determine your own attributes. We are constantly looking to others to evaluate and determine our adequacy. When we look to people of higher status it is called upward social comparison, when looking at those of lower status it s called downward social comparison. While social media and celebrity culture provide many opportunities for people to compare upwards, generally most people prefer to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... But without fail, there is always one guy in a 2002 Jaguar XK8 tagging along with us. I hate that guy. When I have the chance I will pick a point in line as far away from him as possible, preferably next to a Triumph Spitfire. Why? Because the TR4 and the Spitfire were sold as his and hers cars, and the Spitfire was hers. This is what downward social comparison looks like. If I were to drive with the 370 horsepower Jaguar I would be constantly reminded of my 110 horsepower car s inferiority, however next to the 69 horsepower Spitfire I m reminded of its ...
