The Center For Urban Sustainable Planning
Executive summary
The Center for Urban Sustainable Planning (CUSP) was established in 1996 as a United States 501(c)
(3) non profit organization intended to educate city planners and government officials on sustainable
urban planning programs for low to mid range developing countries and assist them in developing
urban systems that serve industry, tourism, and provide opportunities for the urban poor. Our areas of
expertise include urban planning, tenure rights, economic development, infrastructure,
environmentally friendly development, social engagement, poverty reduction, zoning codes,
legislation, and residential housing focused on provision of adequate housing for the urban poor.
The CUSP mission is to ensure that city planners, government officials, transnational corporations,
and the international community engages in urban planning activities to build better cities that serve
their entire population in environmental and economically sustainable ways.
We are aware that with increasing migration to urban centers by both professionals seeking work, as
well as those in low skill, no skill industries, there are increasing challenges for these various
stakeholders and decision makers in the area of providing adequate housing, infrastructure, and
services that reach the poor and lower middle class residents, while also providing infrastructure that
serves investors well and will attract their more highly paid professional staff to areas where they
would like to develop

Analysis Of The Book A New Baby
On a brisk, fall day on Sunday October 25th, 1998 a new baby was born at 7:34 p.m. at Sioux Valley
Hospital in Sioux Falls. That 20 inch, 7 pound, 9 ounce baby was Nicholas Jack Nagel. There are two
reasons for the name my parents gave me. My father Travis is a big golf fan and his favorite golfer of
all time is Jack Nicklaus; he is considered one of the greatest golfers of all time, with 18 majors, the
most ever by a professional golfer. My mother Marylou, on the other hand, loves Christmas and liked
the name Nicholas due to St. Nicholas. St. Nicholas is the patron saint of children and sailors. The
name Nicholas is a Greek name that means victorious people. Shockingly, it took only a few hours of
labor for my arrival. My mom was as calm as can be and didn t realize that she was going into labor.
While my mom was in labor, the rest of my family watched the Denver Broncos defeat the
Jacksonville Jaguars. My parents joke with me that I ve been a Broncos fan since I was even born,
which is true. All of my grandparents, three aunts, and three family friends were at the hospital to
greet me. After I was delivered at approximately 7:34 p.m. my family passed around some It s a boy
cigars. There were a lot of visitors that brought gifts and outfits. My parents and I got to go home the
night after I was born. Grandma and Grandpa Nagel stayed for two days. My mom and dad were the
first of their friends to have a baby and they were very excited to welcome me to

Are We Spiritual Machine Summary
Charles H. Duell, US commissioner of patents, famously quipped in 1881 that everything that could
be invented already had been. It took until 1908 for the first Model T to roll out of a factory. It is a
provincial viewpoint that has been around since Ecclesiastes (1:9) that we have reached the pinnacle
of our technological game and yet as each new paradigm rolls to a close and our imaginations are
saturated with the reality of the world we begin to question whether or not this is the time that the
future will end. Moore s law may just the most recent paradigm of technological growth, but it makes
sense that this paradigm will shift into the next and AI will be the future of sentience. Ray Kurzweil
begins his book Are We Spiritual Machines? By espousing the idea that intelligent non biological

If it is true that we are a species that is destined to continue our path of unrestrained growth then it
follows that w must be the first to reach such a place. Most non conspiracy solutions to the Fermi
Paradox lie on similar veins to The Great Filter saying that their is a point that technological advances
can reach before a society collapses on itself and that is why we have seen no evidence of other alien
life. But Kurzweil makes bold claims that seem to disagree with this theory. The possibility that an
undying intelligent form could exist means that it is likely they would and probably have colonized
the galaxy by going from planet to plant mining resources. Von Neumann probes as they are called
would be incredibly efficient power generators as, if they were equipped with solar panels, they could
act as a sort of dyson swarm to maximize energy collection. In terms of the Fermi Paradox then, the
potential existence of these machines means we should see some evidence of their existence, and yet
as we look to the stars we see

Zeus Role In Society
Throughout the article Zeus and the Order of Society , Dowden discusses Zeus role in the home as
well as his general place in society, by which he exists to create, maintain, and restore order when
necessary. Zeus is recognized as a figure that serves many functions including: ritualistic purity, joy,
warmth, world order, the transition from childhood to adulthood, an integrator of proximate cultures,
the ultimate judge, supporter and overseer of kings and bonds of friendship, and father of both the
family and the gods.
In antiquity, these roles were often displayed in many different fashions, and thus the patrons of Zeus
had many ways of showing their devotion and admiration. Often rumored, human sacrifice seems to
have been a popular theme, although there is little evidence to support such claims. The stories touted
as evidence usually arise as hearsay, and develop into myths themselves. These myths tend to become
rather entangled as they are twisted to support claims. Dowden presents an example of this through the
werewolf stories, which involved Zeus ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Zeus is such an integral part of the Greek identity, that people were often asked to not only include
both their mother and father s side as a part of their family lineage, but also the location of their
paternal cult as either Zeus or Apollo. This falls in line with Zeus role as a paternal figure, in that he
follows the male lineage and is seen as an ancestor of the family in some ways.
In conclusion, Dowden s explanations of Zeus as a figurehead of Greek society is comprehensive by
explaining Zeus significance not only on a societal scale, but also on a smaller, more familiar familial
scale as well. Zeus serves many functions in Ancient Greece, and seems to be much more pervasive in
oligarchical societies than free ones due to his patronage of

Workforce Planning Process Paper
The workforce planning process essentially ensures having the right people at the right time in place
aligned with a firm s business strategy, goals, and competitive environment. The process for a well
thought out workforce plan consist of a firm s business strategy, the firm s talent philosophy and
strategic staffing decisions, a workforce analysis, development and implementation of actions plans,
and monitoring, evaluating, and revising the forecasts and action plans (Phillips Gully, 2015, p. 117).
It is a systematic assessment of future workforce needs and the determination of strategies and actions
required to meet those needs. 1. Identify the firm s business strategy: A business strategy is the firm s

Articulate the firm s talent philosophy and strategic staffing decisions: This steps involves attention to
factors, such as promotions, worker retention, hiring preferences, and providing training to select
candidates, as such dynamics influence a firm s forecasting and alignment of its labor demand
(Phillips Gully, 2015, p. 117). 3. Conduct a workforce analysis: This assessment involves forecasting
both the firm s demand labor and the supply of labor available in the market. Next, a firm must
ascertain any gaps between both factors (Phillips Gully, 2015, p. 117). 4. Develop and implement
action plans: In this step, a firm must create and implement actions plans will need to be created and

plans, whether short or long term recruiting, should consider the options of partner, subcontract,
retain, develop, or hire to fill the identified gaps in regards to arising issues such as an aging
workforce (Phillips Gully, 2015, p. 117). 5. Monitor, evaluate, and revise the forecasts and action
plans: In this last phase, a firm should take a closer look at the effectiveness of its workforce plan as
far as meeting the company s staffing goals. Changes in the business environment require a
reassessment as well (Phillips Gully, 2015, p.

H1N1 Influenza ( Swine Flu ) is a flu pandemic that has recently spread all around the world. The
Swine Flu began its massive spread through Mexico in April (2009) and by June, the World Health
Organization raised the alert level to a full blown pandemic across the globe. The virus has spread
rapidly throughout the world. Luckily, the governments around the globe have offered an
immunization flu shot against this pandemic that is available to some citizens at this present time. In
Lawrence Gostin s Swine Flu Vaccine: What Is Fair? (2009), he explains his doubts for the Swine Flu
vaccination by emphasizing how rich countries have a large advantage over poor countries in

In his article, Swine Flu Vaccine: What Is Fair?, Gostin points out that rich countries in general will
probably use their vastly superior spending power to acquire vaccines. Stockpiling by the rich, of
course, leaves poor countries in Africa, Asia, and Latin America much more vulnerable (11). After all,
everyone needs to be protected from the dangers of H1N1 Influenza throughout the world and income
should not play a role in who is vaccinated. It is a reality that every individual is just as important as
the next and should have a fair chance at a vaccination. Organizations are creating the vaccines with
the idea of profit in mind and this is not fair to the poorer countries around the globe. Wealthy
countries are definitely more likely to acquire vaccinations in relation to poorer ones. Second, it is
advisable that everyone should get vaccinated against H1N1 Influenza because it can prevent the
Swine Flu from spreading any further. If the entire world s population was vaccinated against the
Swine Flu, this would result in the complete control of the virus. We need to stop H1N1 Influenza in
its tracks and protect all citizens from the flu regardless of their income or social class. Gostin
observes that President Obama plans to spend a minuscule $350 million of Swine Flu resources for
global health and child survival, and two thirds of that sum will go to

3.3 + 3.3 = 85.5
85.5/20=4.28

This is the mean found for Others GPA.

92.43/30=3.08

In order to find the median for IB and Others GPA, I must put the GPAs in numerical order. Since both
totals are even numerals, I have to take the mean of the two middle numbers of the set of GPA. IB
median: 4.3+4.5= 8.8 8.8/2= 4.4
Others median: 3.0+ 3.1=6.1 6.1/2 = 3.05
There several modes within each data set. I simply look for repeating digits. Since there is a handful, I
will only choose of the many modes to be the main mode for the sets.
IB mode: 4.7 and 4.3
Others mode: 3.0
This is some of the input of GPAs in a graphic display calculator (GDC). I will use the GDC to show

The Flaws Of The Commission
Recommendations The flaws of the commission are extensive, but there is also a well structured base
to build on for future endeavors. Woven into the fabric of the commission are the makings of a
potentially successful Reconciliation commission. With a slight tweaking to the core premise, a few
assorted changes to the logistics and a less meddling government the commission could stand a chance
at healing the wounds. As mentioned previously, the South Korean Truth and reconciliation council
was made in the image of the South African Truth and Reconciliation council. The commission
wished to place an emphasis on finding out the historical proceedings in a concise and thorough
manner. However, having been met with a slew of bureaucratic hurdles, the commission soon began to
shift its tactics in a manner that would allow them to continue their search but not smirch the name of
the South Korean Government. Without accepting responsibilities for much of the atrocities
committed during the time, the Korean government began to take the form of the truth as defined by
the government commission. If the main goal was truly to facilitate the process of healing in South
Korea, then the most potentially successful format for the commission would have been that of an
Reparation and restitution commission seeing as many of the misdoings were in fact committed by the
government onto the people, causing tangible damage that could be potentially repaired. An Apology

A Summary Of Remember The Alamo
In the December of 1835, during the Texas Revolution, the Alamo was occupied by two hundred
Texan soldiers located near the present day in San Antonio. The Alamo was a church in the middle of
San Antonio. William Travis and James Bowie were the commanders who were prepared to defend the
Alamo from the Mexicans who wanted it back. Unfortunately, the Texan soldiers were outnumbered to
secure the Alamo from General Antonio Lopez de Santa Anna by thousands of his soldiers. The battle
was only for thirteen days and Santa Anna slaughtered everyone except for a few such as a widowed
wife named Susanna Wilkerson Dickinson, her infant daughter Angelina, and the one person who
witnessed the final assault and survived named Joe. For the Texans, the battle of the Alamo is an
image of brave resistance and a rallying cry in their battle for freedom. This urged more Texans to join
the military and lead the following fight to triumph against Mexico. The battle cry Remember the
Alamo! within Texas culture was a symbol of Patriotic sacrifice. If we had known about Remember
the Alamo! it s all thanks to Joe who came out of the battle witnessing all of the hardships of the
battle. Joe was an African American slave who became an Alamo Legend. He was born into a slavery
from Kentucky in about 1813. He was also the brother of a well known abolitionist and novelist,
William Wells Brown. He was moved to Missouri and then later to Texas, where he was owned by

Symbolism in the poem the Walrus and the Carpenter
Lewis Carroll s The Walrus and the Carpenter could possibly be just a nonsensical rhyme meant
purely for entertainment value. The fact that this is a nonsense poem inside a nonsense story makes it
all the more difficult to decipher a deeper meaning. Like the author, who had a darker side to him, so
too might his work. Carroll made this statement in a letter to an American friend,I m very much afraid
I didn t mean anything but nonsense. Still, you know, words mean more than we mean to express
when we use them; so a whole book ought to mean a great deal more than the writer means. So,
whatever good meanings are in the book, I m glad to accept as the meaning of the book. (Shaw)This

The eldest Oyster looked at him,?But never a word he said:?The eldest Oyster winked his eye,?And

in Shaw)The youthful oysters, who have not yet dealt with such persons, agree to venture out on a
jaunt. The trip down the beach symbolizes the blind way the common man will follow the politician to
his eminent demise. The oysters gather and more and more follow the two leaders down the length of
the beach. The Walrus and the Carpenter lead the oysters a great distance until the oysters are
exhausted from the journey. Stopping on a rock that is conveniently low, the Walrus gathers up his
followers, who stand in neat rows close by, and begins a speech with the most remembered portion of
Carroll s poem. The time has come, the Walrus said,? To talk of many things:?Of shoes and ships and
sealing wax ?Of cabbages and kings ?And why the sea is boiling hot ?And whether pigs have wings.
(Carroll 61 66 qtd. in Shaw)The Walrus s speech is a remark on politicians gathering listeners and
mesmerizing them into thinking that everything they say is pertinent to them when really it is all
nonsense (De Rooy). Oysters do not care about shoes, they do not even have feet, which Carroll points
out in a previous line. Before the walk, the oysters did make sure that

The burnt out theatre in Nowra s play Cosi represents the life inside an asylum, a life that the
characters know all too well. Life inside an asylum is portrayed as a dark, cold and isolated place,
where the outside world is not often talked about and for others almost doesn t exist. Most of the

The asylum introduces a new world to Lewis, one that is far from his own life, Asylums are the most

Summary Of Brian Friel s Translations
The play Translations is set in a Gaelic speaking, Hedge school in Northern Ireland, 1833. Brian Friel
explores the modernization affect individuals and communities that occurred as a result of the
conquering English language. He examines how language shapes reality, whilst questioning the
assumption that any two people can share the same reality; ideas can be translated between cultures
without necessarily being altered. The play offers a parable about the fate of a parochial attitude for
those who are not familiar with Irish history. Brain Friel is considered to be concerned with the
nuances of both personal and cultural national identity and its relation to colonial dispossession, issues
of home, language, tradition... (Bertha 2006, 154). Friel writes a story of how one nation lost its
language, culture and literature as a result of being conquered by another. He explores the reasons
behind this loss and the ways in which society can overcome this sense of isolation.
There is a sense of forced assimilation through the loss of the Irish language, with the reoccurring
feeling of isolation appearing to be the result. A lack of mutual understanding is present between not
only the British and Irish but also the Irish themselves, for there are common disputes about
conforming to the English language. The native language declined, not as an outcome of British policy
so much as because an entire generation of the Irish themselves decided no longer to speak it (Kiberd

Eukaryotic Cells And Its Functions
Eukaryotic cells are complex and include all animal and plant cells. Prokaryotic cells are smaller and
simpler, e.g. Bacteria (AQA 2008)
Eukaryotic cells contain membrane bound organelles, whereas prokaryotic cells do not contain these.
Although both of these cells contain DNA, only eukaryotic cells contain a nucleus. The nucleus is the
largest organelle, surrounded by a double membrane (nuclear envelope) containing lots of pores. The
nuclear membrane protects contents of the nucleus and controls the transport of substances in and out.
The nucleus contains linear DNA in chromatin which protects the DNA from damage. Chromatin is
formed of DNA which controls the activities of the cell. The nucleus often contains a structure called
the nucleolus. This structure produces ribosomes which enter the cytoplasm in the cell through the
nuclear pores, as well as transcribing DNA into RNA.
Prokaryotic cells do not contain nuclei. Instead of having a nucleus to carry the DNA, these cells
contain plasmids with circular DNA, as well as having most of the DNA float freely inside the
cytoplasm. The plasmids carry the information necessary to keep the cell alive. For example including
genes that make the bacteria cell resistant to antibiotics.
Both cells transcribe DNA into RNA in order to translate RNA and produce proteins on ribosomes.
Endoplasmic Reticulum is present in eukaryotic cells. There are two types of ER: Smooth and rough.
This organelle is formed of a network of

argument which revolves around these seemingly normal and ordinary men and how they were

overall significance of the book and its significance in relation to the history of the Holocaust as a

more specifically providing awareness towards who the perpetrators were as Browning provides an in

Literature Review Editing Process
Literature Review In examining recent literature on the topic of editing in the writing process, three
areas appear to be of some concern in dealing with this issue: 1) The true definition of editing and the
editing process, 2) The perceived role and responsibilities of the teacher and students, and 3) Effective
editing strategies that will increase student learning. In order to truly implement editing strategies that
will impact the learner, the first two areas must be addressed.
In the review of the literature, I found that many students and teachers alike had some misconceptions
about the true definition of editing and the roles that each must play. Often times, the editing process
and the revision process were mistakenly mixed, or thought to be one and the same process.
Marchisan and Alber (2001) define the revision stage as the time to look for changes in concepts and
improvements to the paper in order to help achieve its purpose for the audience. In this stage, the
writer becomes a problem solver to improve the concept (idea) of the paper.
The editing stage is on a different scale. It is not used to make changes in the concept of the paper,
rather it is to improve and clarify the meaning. Enders (2001) states that in the editing stage, students
should check for errors in spelling, usage, and clarity of expression. Too often teachers mix both the
revision stage and editing stage, creating confusion with the students in what they are really suppose

The Debate Of Public Livestock Grazing
Western United States was unsettled by Americans in early the years. After the Civil War, known as
the era of homesteading, was designed by the government to promote the settlement of the western
states. Because there was a lack of understanding of the arid ecosystems and the increase of westward
settlement, western public rangelands were overgrazed. This in turn caused unintended damage to soil,
plants, streams, and springs. In 1934 the Taylor Grazing Act was passed by Congress to create grazing
districts that were portioned and regulated. In the 1960s and the 1970s public appreciation for public
lands increased. This advertently caused the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) to modify land
grazing permits so that endangered species, sensitive plants, and cultural or historical objects can be
preserved. (A Brief History of Public Lands Grazing, Bureau of Land Management)
Still today the debate of public livestock grazing continues. There is much tension between farmers,
wildlife and environmental activists, the government, and the Bureau of Land Management. Farmers
say public livestock grazing production is economically beneficial. Wildlife and environmental
activist argue that this grazing harms the wildlife and their ecosystems. The government sees other
ways to use the land that would increase economic benefits. BLM is trying their best to make sure
everyone is happy. I should be allowed to research the controversy that surrounds livestock grazing on
public lands because:

Characteristics Of Gifted And Gifted
Gifted and Talented: A Gift and a Curse
Although being gifted and talented (GT) is not thought of as a disability, it presents its own set of
difficulties. It is difficult to estimate the absolute number of gifted children because the calculation
depends on the various criteria and methods used to identify gifted children. Also, due to the nature of
begin gifted and talented, common characteristics can be misleading.
The Gifted and Talented Student
A student who gets good grades, behaves well, and excels above the academic average has in the past
been considered gifted. The student who does not perform at this level is less likely to be identified
and less likely to receive assistance. The term gifted was limited to academic achievement. In today s
society this definition has changed because giftedness spans to more than one area of development and

How I Met The Meta Cognition Knowledge Outcome
To: Professor Gillespie From: Matthew Carrano Date: April 28, 2017 Subject: Writing 220
I am writing this memo to illustrate how I met the meta cognition knowledge outcome. I will evaluate
all of my papers by assessing how I fixed my work, and what I did to improve them. I will be taking
specific elements out of my papers and reflecting upon them by looking for content elements and my
application of delivery skills.
Meta Cognition Outcome: Doc 1 and Doc 2
I met the meta cognition knowledge outcome by the topics of the first two documents. One way I
achieved this outcome was by addressing the topic s audience through your feedback. To change my
audience error, I went back to see your comment, apostrophe needed but not the informality. ... Show

By including the word slippery slope more in my paper, I was able to give you a better understanding
of what fallacy I was identifying and explaining.
I met the meta cognition outcome by understanding the following content elements in the first two
documents:
Generalized Fallacy ex. I do not explain a generalize fallacy well because you write this point s not
quite clear why dies our generalize the capital? I need to explain why our can be classified as a fallacy.
In your doc 1 description, you say, look for personal pronouns, a general group (Gillespie 1). I
corrected Trump s fallacy by incorporating the definition you provided us to clarified the use of a
generalized fallacy.
Faulty Emotional Appeal Fallacy ex. To change my faulty emotional appeal explanation, I looked at
your comment, this sentence offers broad info and is it even true? I needed to change my sentence
around because it sounds informal, and I did not explain the fallacy well. A Faulty emotional appeal
can be defined as an assertion, emotional appeal, nowhere is there any evidence presented (Brinton). I
corrected my error by explaining how Trump s faulty emotional appeal evoked emotion and presented
no evidence.

Self-Reliance By Charles W. Eliot
Introduction The efficient man is the man who thinks for himself this is a quote about self reliance by
Charles W. Eliot, he was an American academic who was selected as Harvard s president in 1869 and
also attended Harvard. In this essay, I will describe what self reliance is to me, state my opinion on
why being self reliant is necessary and how it can help people in there lives, and I will be creating a

I think that being self reliant means that you make your own decisions, you don t let people change
you from who you are and finally, you always act the same as you would when your by yourself.
Being self reliant to me means simply that you do you.
Why Being Self Reliant is Necessary Steve Jobs was fired from apple for his temper, his over
scheduled meetings, and complaints from other co workers. This is why being self reliant is necessary,
about 5 years later Jobs founded the NeXT Computer using $7 million. A year after that Jobs bought
Pixar from Lucas Film s computer graphics division for the price of $10 million. Later that year Apple
announced that it would buy NeXT for $427 million! Apple then welcomed Steve Jobs back to the
company because they liked the computer he made so much and thought he would be a good asset to
have working with them again. Almost a decade later Steve Jobs admitted that Getting fired from
Apple was the best thing that happened to me. . Without self reliance Jobs would have never made his
own company and brought it from the ground up and made it back into apple as Chairman of the
Board . To conclude, Steve Jobs got fired and he turned to being self reliant and did something he
wouldn t have done had he not been fired from Apple. Steve Jobs got fired from Apple then he became
self reliant, created a computer the way he wanted to, then got welcomed back to Apple after they

Comparing Harold And Ana In Stranger Than Fiction
Harold and Ana are portrayed as an unlikely couple and their odd relationship is revealed through the
use of film techniques. These people are both characters from Marc Forster s stranger than fiction
film. The director used techniques such as colour, symbols and body language to show the difference
between the two and the unlikeliness of their relationship.
Ana and Harold are both associated with their own distinct colours that help show the audience who
they are and highlight their differences. The pair seems like an unlikely couple because the colours
that represent them show very different things about their personalities and that they are very different
people. Ana is shown often in a red setting, and red is incorporated into her clothes and tattoos. The
colour signifies passion and danger, Harold the opposite. He is often seen around blue, the colour
associated with coldness. As the film progresses Harold begins to be with other colours, like red.
When Harold decides that he wants Ana he is wearing a red sweater, the colours that define him
change when he realises that he wants to be with her. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Oscar Romero and the Role of the Catholic Church in El...
The Role of Romero vs. the Catholic Church: The Salvadoran Civil War The tragedies of the civil war
in El Salvador brought focus to the many issues of oppression, under representation, and inequality
apparent amongst the Salvadoran working class during the later twentieth century. The outbreak of the
war began much like civil wars in neighboring countries, consisting of the lower class demanding land
and policy reformations, as elites feared the uprisings would result in socialist geared politics that
jeopardized their status. Amidst the fighting between the two social classes, the Catholic Church, as a
whole, maintained a somewhat neutrality status and refused to publically support one group over the

Author Edward T. Brett argues that Romero had a very prophetic approach [that] was a highly
effective method of leadership during his three year tenure of office (Brett 717). He uses the term
prophetic to refer to the similar ways in which Romero preached his sermons to the underprivileged
campesinos in order to also publically represent them, much like Jesus preached to the poor to
represent the persecuted Christians. However, the term itself can be problematic because also like
Jesus, Romero was tormented by his fellow bishops for catering to the needs of the poor. Not all
bishops and clergymen at the time had captured the essence of liberation theology teachings and
feared they were too radical to preach to the campesinos. However, Romero believed that the equality
of Salvadorans was more important than their integration into the elite society. He focused many of his
preachings on the need to put an end to violence and determine a right from wrong. In Romero s last
sermon, just before he called for soldiers to refuse to obey orders, (Wood 27) he gave special attention
to the need to reinstall distinct human rights within a country in its own exodus (Romero 3) and that
both groups alike should call for, respect for the dignity of the person, hope for humanity s common
good, and the transcendence that look before all to God and only

Essay On Polonius In Hamlet
Facades always Collapse Thou wretched, rash, intruding fool, farewell! (III.iv.31). Polonius, a

as a small antagonist, who all throughout the play tries to undermine Hamlet. As the advisor to the

The advisor to the King, Polonius, exists as a very fake and superficial man. He always talks about
unimportant things, but transpires as a clever man. One point in the play where Hamlet and Polonius
are talking, Hamlet puts on a huge antic disposition, making Polonius not positive that Hamlet assures
insanity, so he whispers to himself Though this be madness, yet there be method in t. (II.ii.223 224).
He discusses how Hamlet tells Polonius how old he truly looks. Polonius takes much offence to this,
but realizes that Hamlet isn t entirely crazy, he kind of thinks he puts on a show for those around him.
Being harsh, lying, invertebrates, Polonius and the King decide to hide away many times during the
play to spy on Hamlet. Once again, they were almost seen by Hamlet right before he was questioning
life. Polonius talks to the king saying with devotion s visage/ And Pious action we do sugar o er/ The
devil himself (III.i.53 55) which discusses getting Ophelia a Bible to look innocent while they listen to
hear if Hamlet has truly been affected by hysteria or if he wears a facade. Polonius, will try to

The New York City As A Major Obstacle For Receiving...
Introduction New York City is composed of some of the world s most unique and eccentric
neighborhoods the world has ever seen. Amongst these neighborhoods, one can expect to find
Bushwick (Community District 4) and Williamsburg (Community District 1), nestled in in the
northern tip of Brooklyn borough. The earliest colonizers included the Dutch, French, Scandinavians,
and English farmers. Today, however, the spectrum of racial distribution has changed drastically in
which the top ethnic groups include Puerto Rican, African American, Dominican, Ecuadorian, and
Mexican, Polish, Italian, and Hasidic Jews. Both neighborhoods have an abnormally large rate of
preventable illness and death issues. Reasons as to why these districts are facing such high illness rates
could be because of language barriers, economic conditions, and lack of a primary care physician
monitoring health. Since the majority of individuals living in Bushwick and Williamsburg are of
foreign descent, it is only feasible to hypothesize that language barriers pose as a major obstacle for
receiving quality health care. Many of the residents may not know how to read and understand
English, therefore, leading to compromised delivery of care. Another justification for the residents of
Community Board 1 and 4 to not obtain quality care is because of economic conditions. Individuals
living in Bushwick are known to have a lower median household income when compared to Brooklyn
as a whole: the difference being $9,000

Intoredance And Intolerance In The Crucible By Arthur Miller
The definition of the word martyr as defined by Merriam Webster is a person who voluntarily suffers
death as the penalty of witnessing to and refusing to renounce a religion. When many people think of a
martyr their first instinct in their mind is not to think of witchcraft and the town of Salem. The play
written by Arthur Miller titled The Crucible is based on real events that correlate with this definition.
The Crucible depicts the 1692 Salem Witch Trials that transformed the town of Salem into hysteria.
The start of the trials began way before Abigail Williams accused one of the townspeople of
witchcraft, but when many girls were caught dancing and singing in the woods. The trials continued
for less than a year but over 200 people were accused. With the breakout of hysteria and intolerance
the town everyone seemed to turn on eachother. Giles Corey embodied the theme of the play The
Crucible by being intolerant and going against the others, eventually costing him his life.
To begin, the theme of The Crucible is intolerance. To understand this theme you have to know what
Intolerance is. Unwillingness to accept views, beliefs, or behaviors that differ from one s own is
intolerance. The reason supporting why Giles Corey embodies intolerance is because in the play, Giles
was a dynamic character. This means that he went through a change throughout the play both
physically and emotionally. The change that we see Giles go through is when he becomes intolerant
and goes away from what majority of the others within Salem are believing, witchcraft. The argument
of the proof that Giles showed his neighbor,Ann Putnam, about the accusation of witchcraft was
another example of how he portrayed the theme throughout the play. Another lasting impact that Giles
has on the theme of the play is that was intolerant to a large group of Salem townspeople whose main
motive for witch accusations was for the dispute over land and wealth within the community. The
accusation of Giles and his wife Martha is directly because of that dispute. Not only did the
intolerance of the many people within the town caused Giles to change, but unfortunately cost him his
wife s and his own life.
A secondary thought to tie in with Giles and

So firstly we calculate the amount of HCl used, which is 0.000846mol. Then, because NaOH and HCl
react with a ratio of 1:1, we can determine the NaOH reacted with HCl is also 0.000846mol. After
that, we can subtract this amount from all 20 ml NaOH added to the sample, so the amount of NaOH
reacted with sample is 0.00107mol. This part of NaOh reacts with ammonia at a ratio of 1:1. So the
amount of ammonia is 0.00107mol, containing 0.18g nitrogen. Finally, we say show that the
proportion of nitrogen in the fertiliser is 13.8%
In this experiment, I learnt how to use litmus paper to determine the pH of gas. I also practised the
titration process. During the experiment, I learnt to wet the litmus paper and then use tweezers to hold
it to the neck to the bottle. The gas will dissolve in the water and change the colour of litmus paper.
Besides, titration especially back titration is also learnt from this experiment. Some other variables can
affect the result as well. Firstly, the range of methyl red is between 4.4(red) to 6.2 (yellow) which
means when the indicator is orange, the pH of the solution is actually lower than 6.2, which means the
acid is already too much when the solution turns orange. So if we can use a mixed indicator, the result

Compare And Contrast Bartleby And Frankenstein
Naturalism, a literary movement from the 1880s to 1930s, uses detailed realism to highlight the effect
of social conditions on human character. Elements of this genre of literature accentuate the work of
famous writers: such as Herman Melville and Stephen Crane. The authors literary works highlight the
lack of human compassion by exposing their protagonists to social dilemmas. In Herman Melville s
story, Bartleby , the author encapsulates the realities that underlie human responsibility to help others
in need. On the other hand, Stephen Crane s novel, The Monster, emphasizes the struggle of a man
rejected from society despite his kind actions. Moreover, the rhetorical similarities that capture the
essence of naturalism in both texts include ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
To begin with, Bartleby is the protagonist of Melville s story and he was a scrivener, the strangest
[one] ever saw (3). He looks like a cadaverously gentleman (16), yet he wasn t ordinarily humane
(10). His physical appearance symbolizes the image of someone who exhibits emotional coldness and
inhuman remoteness. In other words, he is alive but dead on the inside. Furthermore, another central
symbol of the novel is the office. In this environment, restricted relationships among employees are
evident. Hence, Bartleby appears as a prisoner of his own thoughts. He chose to isolate himself,
despite having people around him. This demonstrates the lack of personal interactions in his work
environment. The narrator, the employer of Bartleby, cares about the protagonist because he doesn t
want to feel guilty. He mentions that befriend[ing] Bartleby will cost [him] little or nothing while at
the same time he can lay up in [his] soul what would prove a sweet morsel for [his] conscience (13).
Moreover, this symbol of the office captures the essence of egoism. The narrator acts kindly towards
Bartleby to soothe his conscience, not because a human being was mentally and physically in pain.
Bartleby, judged on his corpse like appearance and robotic actions, experienced apathetic responses
that demonstrate how those around him never attempted to genuinely help him. Consequently, the lack
of human compassion to help others demonstrates the inability to look consider the emotions of an

Outer Bank s Beaches Research Paper
Sand is a key component to the Outer Bank s Beaches. It serves as a habitat for creatures, a filter for
beaches, it defines channels in the water, and serves as place for people to sprawl out creating
economic significance. The sharing components of sand include beaches, dunes, and offshore zones.
Sand is distributed to the beach in three major ways, erosion from rocks and other sediments which is
then carried to the beaches through rivers and deposited at the beaches. Waves also play an important
part in carrying sand to beaches. When offshore waves first make contact with the floor of the ocean
they carry sand and deposit it on the beaches, this method of deposition varies greatly during the
seasons with different wave action and tides. Strong ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This means that coastline and beaches are never permanent and subject to natural change over time.
The outer banks are currently getting closer and closer to land. When anthropogenic influence
overruns a beach negative effects occur. Removing rock and sand from coastline can reduce the
weathering creating more sand and erosion is intensified. The building of seawalls, jetties, groins, etc.
lead to adverse effects. They are temporary solutions to long term problems. It greatly disrupts the
natural flow of sediment a long the coast line. While it may positively build up sand on the upstream
side the downstream side will be much more susceptible to erosion. Due to the lack of deposited
sediment and sand that gets trapped behind the jetties shoreline beyond the jetty will erode at a much
faster rate because there s significantly less sand to replace the sand eroded by natural causes. For
example, if your neighbor were to build a jetty they would experience build up of sediment on their
side of it, but on your side you would see your part of the beach slowly erode away. All of the
sediment brought down from currents and waves would get stuck behind the jetty and pile up leaving
your side scarce. Waves, storms, and wind will eventually eat away at your sand and since the input of
new sediment is much lower erosion would occur at a faster then replacement. (See picture on

Trent Bridge
The Veteran s Skyway Gateway to the Trent Bridge
In the early 1990s, the aging swing bridge crossing the Trent River in Trenton, Ontario was replaced
with a continuous span steel box girder bridge. The unique part of this process was that the new bridge
was built adjacent to the existing swing bridge and slid laterally into place; this was the first time in
North America that this technique had been done. The process consisted of five mains steps; first, the
planning of such an undertaking, second, deciding on how to proceed, third, constructing the new

However, the city determined that one bridge would not sufficiently handle the volume of traffic
during the 18 months it would take to complete a new bridge. Thus, City councillors, working with the
Ontario Ministry of Transportation and engineers from Declan Corporation of Toronto, conceived the
plan of building a new bridge adjacent to the swing bridge, and later sliding it into place (Anderson
Trenkler, 1991). But, before the construction of the new bridge could commence, engineers had to
reverse the direction of the swing rotation of the existing bridge, as it swung directly towards the site
the new bridge would be built and would impede on the construction process (Anderson Trenkler,
1991). Once the planning was finalized and the site prepped, construction could begin.
In the spring of 1989, the construction of the new bridge began. The base of the Trent River was a
flotilla of barges carrying the workers, cranes and equipment needed to prepare the temporary pillars
that would support the new bridge, as well as maneuver the huge steel girders into place for the new
bridge. It was an awesome sight for the entire town, as we watched barges float the steel girders into
the harbour, one section being 74 meters in length and two more that were 54 metres each. The new
steel box girder bridge had a total length of 182 metres and weighed 2,950 metric tonnes (Anderson

Happiness By Jane Kenyon
While reading all three articles about happiness one common theme arose. What is truly happiness?
Many different people interpret this question differently, and all three works of writing seem to have a
different view on what happiness is. The poems, Happiness written by Jane Kenyon, addresses the
come and go nature of happiness, while the essay, A Balanced Psychology and A Full Life, focuses on
what needs to be done to increase happiness. With this being said Pig Happiness by Lynne McFall best
addressed the question of what happiness is . The poem Happiness does not fulfill the question of
what happiness truly is, but does provide some good incite on certain parts of what happiness is. The
poem focuses on how happiness has a nature like a prodigal (Kenyon 2). This shows that happiness

would know what appeals to the Greasers, but I did not know what appealed to the Socs. They were
always behind a wall of aloofness, so it would be hard to know what appeals to them. I was thinking
of the ways that I could discover what the Socs liked. There is only one way to find out, I said to
myself. It was a crazy idea, but if I could do it successfully, it would help me get the Socs to stop
fighting. I was going to do something that no Greaser had done before, ... Show more content on

I kept cocking my eyebrows, which might have sent a message to Cherry. Alright, she responded with
a smirk, let s go. With that, we started my tour around the West side of town. The West side of town
was looked nicer than the East side, which makes sense because the West side is more rich. Cherry
showed me where the Socs like to go, like the Way Out and Rusty s. To get to know Socs better, said
Cherry, you got to meet them. What if they think I am a Greaser, I asked. We will just say you are a
cousin, responded Cherry nonchalantly. We went inside the Way Out, which looked very nice in
comparison with the Dingo. The chairs seemed more expensive and luxurious. That might be an odd
thing to point out, but it s true. We decided to go talk to some Soc quarterbacks who played for the
school I went to. Cherry knew them because she was the cheerleader. Who is that guy? asked one of
the quarterbacks. I am just a cousin, I replied. Just showing him around town, said Cherry. Alright,
said the quarterback. Can I ask you guys some questions? I asked. Be honest,

  • 2. The Center For Urban Sustainable Planning Executive summary The Center for Urban Sustainable Planning (CUSP) was established in 1996 as a United States 501(c) (3) non profit organization intended to educate city planners and government officials on sustainable urban planning programs for low to mid range developing countries and assist them in developing urban systems that serve industry, tourism, and provide opportunities for the urban poor. Our areas of expertise include urban planning, tenure rights, economic development, infrastructure, environmentally friendly development, social engagement, poverty reduction, zoning codes, legislation, and residential housing focused on provision of adequate housing for the urban poor. The CUSP mission is to ensure that city planners, government officials, transnational corporations, and the international community engages in urban planning activities to build better cities that serve their entire population in environmental and economically sustainable ways. We are aware that with increasing migration to urban centers by both professionals seeking work, as well as those in low skill, no skill industries, there are increasing challenges for these various stakeholders and decision makers in the area of providing adequate housing, infrastructure, and services that reach the poor and lower middle class residents, while also providing infrastructure that serves investors well and will attract their more highly paid professional staff to areas where they would like to develop ... • 3. Analysis Of The Book A New Baby On a brisk, fall day on Sunday October 25th, 1998 a new baby was born at 7:34 p.m. at Sioux Valley Hospital in Sioux Falls. That 20 inch, 7 pound, 9 ounce baby was Nicholas Jack Nagel. There are two reasons for the name my parents gave me. My father Travis is a big golf fan and his favorite golfer of all time is Jack Nicklaus; he is considered one of the greatest golfers of all time, with 18 majors, the most ever by a professional golfer. My mother Marylou, on the other hand, loves Christmas and liked the name Nicholas due to St. Nicholas. St. Nicholas is the patron saint of children and sailors. The name Nicholas is a Greek name that means victorious people. Shockingly, it took only a few hours of labor for my arrival. My mom was as calm as can be and didn t realize that she was going into labor. While my mom was in labor, the rest of my family watched the Denver Broncos defeat the Jacksonville Jaguars. My parents joke with me that I ve been a Broncos fan since I was even born, which is true. All of my grandparents, three aunts, and three family friends were at the hospital to greet me. After I was delivered at approximately 7:34 p.m. my family passed around some It s a boy cigars. There were a lot of visitors that brought gifts and outfits. My parents and I got to go home the night after I was born. Grandma and Grandpa Nagel stayed for two days. My mom and dad were the first of their friends to have a baby and they were very excited to welcome me to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Are We Spiritual Machine Summary Charles H. Duell, US commissioner of patents, famously quipped in 1881 that everything that could be invented already had been. It took until 1908 for the first Model T to roll out of a factory. It is a provincial viewpoint that has been around since Ecclesiastes (1:9) that we have reached the pinnacle of our technological game and yet as each new paradigm rolls to a close and our imaginations are saturated with the reality of the world we begin to question whether or not this is the time that the future will end. Moore s law may just the most recent paradigm of technological growth, but it makes sense that this paradigm will shift into the next and AI will be the future of sentience. Ray Kurzweil begins his book Are We Spiritual Machines? By espousing the idea that intelligent non biological entities ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... If it is true that we are a species that is destined to continue our path of unrestrained growth then it follows that w must be the first to reach such a place. Most non conspiracy solutions to the Fermi Paradox lie on similar veins to The Great Filter saying that their is a point that technological advances can reach before a society collapses on itself and that is why we have seen no evidence of other alien life. But Kurzweil makes bold claims that seem to disagree with this theory. The possibility that an undying intelligent form could exist means that it is likely they would and probably have colonized the galaxy by going from planet to plant mining resources. Von Neumann probes as they are called would be incredibly efficient power generators as, if they were equipped with solar panels, they could act as a sort of dyson swarm to maximize energy collection. In terms of the Fermi Paradox then, the potential existence of these machines means we should see some evidence of their existence, and yet as we look to the stars we see ... • 5. Zeus Role In Society Throughout the article Zeus and the Order of Society , Dowden discusses Zeus role in the home as well as his general place in society, by which he exists to create, maintain, and restore order when necessary. Zeus is recognized as a figure that serves many functions including: ritualistic purity, joy, warmth, world order, the transition from childhood to adulthood, an integrator of proximate cultures, the ultimate judge, supporter and overseer of kings and bonds of friendship, and father of both the family and the gods. In antiquity, these roles were often displayed in many different fashions, and thus the patrons of Zeus had many ways of showing their devotion and admiration. Often rumored, human sacrifice seems to have been a popular theme, although there is little evidence to support such claims. The stories touted as evidence usually arise as hearsay, and develop into myths themselves. These myths tend to become rather entangled as they are twisted to support claims. Dowden presents an example of this through the werewolf stories, which involved Zeus ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Zeus is such an integral part of the Greek identity, that people were often asked to not only include both their mother and father s side as a part of their family lineage, but also the location of their paternal cult as either Zeus or Apollo. This falls in line with Zeus role as a paternal figure, in that he follows the male lineage and is seen as an ancestor of the family in some ways. In conclusion, Dowden s explanations of Zeus as a figurehead of Greek society is comprehensive by explaining Zeus significance not only on a societal scale, but also on a smaller, more familiar familial scale as well. Zeus serves many functions in Ancient Greece, and seems to be much more pervasive in oligarchical societies than free ones due to his patronage of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In his article, Swine Flu Vaccine: What Is Fair?, Gostin points out that rich countries in general will probably use their vastly superior spending power to acquire vaccines. Stockpiling by the rich, of course, leaves poor countries in Africa, Asia, and Latin America much more vulnerable (11). After all, everyone needs to be protected from the dangers of H1N1 Influenza throughout the world and income should not play a role in who is vaccinated. It is a reality that every individual is just as important as the next and should have a fair chance at a vaccination. Organizations are creating the vaccines with the idea of profit in mind and this is not fair to the poorer countries around the globe. Wealthy countries are definitely more likely to acquire vaccinations in relation to poorer ones. Second, it is advisable that everyone should get vaccinated against H1N1 Influenza because it can prevent the Swine Flu from spreading any further. If the entire world s population was vaccinated against the Swine Flu, this would result in the complete control of the virus. We need to stop H1N1 Influenza in its tracks and protect all citizens from the flu regardless of their income or social class. Gostin observes that President Obama plans to spend a minuscule $350 million of Swine Flu resources for global health and child survival, and two thirds of that sum will go to ... With a slight tweaking to the core premise, a few assorted changes to the logistics and a less meddling government the commission could stand a chance at healing the wounds. The commission wished to place an emphasis on finding out the historical proceedings in a concise and thorough manner. Without accepting responsibilities for much of the atrocities committed during the time, the Korean government began to take the form of the truth as defined by the government commission. If the main goal was truly to facilitate the process of healing in South Korea, then the most potentially successful format for the commission would have been that of an Reparation and restitution commission seeing as many of the misdoings were in fact committed by the government onto the people, causing tangible damage that could be potentially repaired. The Alamo was a church in the middle of San Antonio. William Travis and James Bowie were the commanders who were prepared to defend the Alamo from the Mexicans who wanted it back. Unfortunately, the Texan soldiers were outnumbered to secure the Alamo from General Antonio Lopez de Santa Anna by thousands of his soldiers. The battle was only for thirteen days and Santa Anna slaughtered everyone except for a few such as a widowed wife named Susanna Wilkerson Dickinson, her infant daughter Angelina, and the one person who witnessed the final assault and survived named Joe. This urged more Texans to join the military and lead the following fight to triumph against Mexico. The battle cry Remember the Alamo! within Texas culture was a symbol of Patriotic sacrifice. • 15. Summary Of Brian Friel s Translations The play Translations is set in a Gaelic speaking, Hedge school in Northern Ireland, 1833. Brian Friel explores the modernization affect individuals and communities that occurred as a result of the conquering English language. He examines how language shapes reality, whilst questioning the assumption that any two people can share the same reality; ideas can be translated between cultures without necessarily being altered. The play offers a parable about the fate of a parochial attitude for those who are not familiar with Irish history. Brain Friel is considered to be concerned with the nuances of both personal and cultural national identity and its relation to colonial dispossession, issues of home, language, tradition... (Bertha 2006, 154). Friel writes a story of how one nation lost its language, culture and literature as a result of being conquered by another. He explores the reasons behind this loss and the ways in which society can overcome this sense of isolation. There is a sense of forced assimilation through the loss of the Irish language, with the reoccurring feeling of isolation appearing to be the result. A lack of mutual understanding is present between not only the British and Irish but also the Irish themselves, for there are common disputes about conforming to the English language. The native language declined, not as an outcome of British policy so much as because an entire generation of the Irish themselves decided no longer to speak it (Kiberd 1995: ... • 17. Eukaryotic Cells And Its Functions Eukaryotic cells are complex and include all animal and plant cells. Prokaryotic cells are smaller and simpler, e.g. Bacteria (AQA 2008) Eukaryotic cells contain membrane bound organelles, whereas prokaryotic cells do not contain these. Although both of these cells contain DNA, only eukaryotic cells contain a nucleus. The nucleus is the largest organelle, surrounded by a double membrane (nuclear envelope) containing lots of pores. The nuclear membrane protects contents of the nucleus and controls the transport of substances in and out. The nucleus contains linear DNA in chromatin which protects the DNA from damage. Chromatin is formed of DNA which controls the activities of the cell. The nucleus often contains a structure called the nucleolus. This structure produces ribosomes which enter the cytoplasm in the cell through the nuclear pores, as well as transcribing DNA into RNA. Prokaryotic cells do not contain nuclei. Instead of having a nucleus to carry the DNA, these cells contain plasmids with circular DNA, as well as having most of the DNA float freely inside the cytoplasm. The plasmids carry the information necessary to keep the cell alive. For example including genes that make the bacteria cell resistant to antibiotics. Both cells transcribe DNA into RNA in order to translate RNA and produce proteins on ribosomes. Endoplasmic Reticulum is present in eukaryotic cells. There are two types of ER: Smooth and rough. • 19. Literature Review Editing Process Literature Review In examining recent literature on the topic of editing in the writing process, three areas appear to be of some concern in dealing with this issue: 1) The true definition of editing and the editing process, 2) The perceived role and responsibilities of the teacher and students, and 3) Effective editing strategies that will increase student learning. In order to truly implement editing strategies that will impact the learner, the first two areas must be addressed. In the review of the literature, I found that many students and teachers alike had some misconceptions about the true definition of editing and the roles that each must play. Often times, the editing process and the revision process were mistakenly mixed, or thought to be one and the same process. Marchisan and Alber (2001) define the revision stage as the time to look for changes in concepts and improvements to the paper in order to help achieve its purpose for the audience. In this stage, the writer becomes a problem solver to improve the concept (idea) of the paper. The editing stage is on a different scale. It is not used to make changes in the concept of the paper, rather it is to improve and clarify the meaning. Enders (2001) states that in the editing stage, students should check for errors in spelling, usage, and clarity of expression. • 20. The Debate Of Public Livestock Grazing Western United States was unsettled by Americans in early the years. After the Civil War, known as the era of homesteading, was designed by the government to promote the settlement of the western states. Because there was a lack of understanding of the arid ecosystems and the increase of westward settlement, western public rangelands were overgrazed. This in turn caused unintended damage to soil, plants, streams, and springs. In 1934 the Taylor Grazing Act was passed by Congress to create grazing districts that were portioned and regulated. In the 1960s and the 1970s public appreciation for public lands increased. This advertently caused the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) to modify land grazing permits so that endangered species, sensitive plants, and cultural or historical objects can be preserved. (A Brief History of Public Lands Grazing, Bureau of Land Management) Still today the debate of public livestock grazing continues. There is much tension between farmers, wildlife and environmental activists, the government, and the Bureau of Land Management. Brett argues that Romero had a very prophetic approach [that] was a highly effective method of leadership during his three year tenure of office (Brett 717). He uses the term prophetic to refer to the similar ways in which Romero preached his sermons to the underprivileged campesinos in order to also publically represent them, much like Jesus preached to the poor to represent the persecuted Christians. However, the term itself can be problematic because also like Jesus, Romero was tormented by his fellow bishops for catering to the needs of the poor. Not all bishops and clergymen at the time had captured the essence of liberation theology teachings and feared they were too radical to preach to the campesinos. However, Romero believed that the equality of Salvadorans was more important than their integration into the elite society. He focused many of his preachings on the need to put an end to violence and determine a right from wrong. In Romero s last sermon, just before he called for soldiers to refuse to obey orders, (Wood 27) he gave special attention to the need to reinstall distinct human rights within a country in its own exodus (Romero 3) and that both groups alike should call for, respect for the dignity of the person, hope for humanity s common good, and the transcendence that look before all to God and only ... • 31. The New York City As A Major Obstacle For Receiving... Introduction New York City is composed of some of the world s most unique and eccentric neighborhoods the world has ever seen. Amongst these neighborhoods, one can expect to find Bushwick (Community District 4) and Williamsburg (Community District 1), nestled in in the northern tip of Brooklyn borough. The earliest colonizers included the Dutch, French, Scandinavians, and English farmers. Today, however, the spectrum of racial distribution has changed drastically in which the top ethnic groups include Puerto Rican, African American, Dominican, Ecuadorian, and Mexican, Polish, Italian, and Hasidic Jews. Both neighborhoods have an abnormally large rate of preventable illness and death issues. Reasons as to why these districts are facing such high illness rates could be because of language barriers, economic conditions, and lack of a primary care physician monitoring health. Since the majority of individuals living in Bushwick and Williamsburg are of foreign descent, it is only feasible to hypothesize that language barriers pose as a major obstacle for receiving quality health care. Many of the residents may not know how to read and understand English, therefore, leading to compromised delivery of care. Another justification for the residents of Community Board 1 and 4 to not obtain quality care is because of economic conditions. Individuals living in Bushwick are known to have a lower median household income when compared to Brooklyn as a whole: the difference being $9,000 ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 33. Intoredance And Intolerance In The Crucible By Arthur Miller The definition of the word martyr as defined by Merriam Webster is a person who voluntarily suffers death as the penalty of witnessing to and refusing to renounce a religion. When many people think of a martyr their first instinct in their mind is not to think of witchcraft and the town of Salem. The play written by Arthur Miller titled The Crucible is based on real events that correlate with this definition. The Crucible depicts the 1692 Salem Witch Trials that transformed the town of Salem into hysteria. The start of the trials began way before Abigail Williams accused one of the townspeople of witchcraft, but when many girls were caught dancing and singing in the woods. The trials continued for less than a year but over 200 people were accused. With the breakout of hysteria and intolerance the town everyone seemed to turn on eachother. Giles Corey embodied the theme of the play The Crucible by being intolerant and going against the others, eventually costing him his life. To begin, the theme of The Crucible is intolerance. To understand this theme you have to know what Intolerance is. Unwillingness to accept views, beliefs, or behaviors that differ from one s own is intolerance. The reason supporting why Giles Corey embodies intolerance is because in the play, Giles was a dynamic character. This means that he went through a change throughout the play both physically and emotionally. The change that we see Giles go through is when he becomes intolerant and goes away from what majority of the others within Salem are believing, witchcraft. The argument of the proof that Giles showed his neighbor,Ann Putnam, about the accusation of witchcraft was another example of how he portrayed the theme throughout the play. Another lasting impact that Giles has on the theme of the play is that was intolerant to a large group of Salem townspeople whose main motive for witch accusations was for the dispute over land and wealth within the community. The accusation of Giles and his wife Martha is directly because of that dispute. Not only did the intolerance of the many people within the town caused Giles to change, but unfortunately cost him his wife s and his own life. A secondary thought to tie in with Giles and ... After that, we can subtract this amount from all 20 ml NaOH added to the sample, so the amount of NaOH reacted with sample is 0.00107mol. This part of NaOh reacts with ammonia at a ratio of 1:1. So the amount of ammonia is 0.00107mol, containing 0.18g nitrogen. Elements of this genre of literature accentuate the work of famous writers: such as Herman Melville and Stephen Crane. The authors literary works highlight the lack of human compassion by exposing their protagonists to social dilemmas. In Herman Melville s story, Bartleby , the author encapsulates the realities that underlie human responsibility to help others in need. It serves as a habitat for creatures, a filter for beaches, it defines channels in the water, and serves as place for people to sprawl out creating economic significance. The sharing components of sand include beaches, dunes, and offshore zones. Sand is distributed to the beach in three major ways, erosion from rocks and other sediments which is then carried to the beaches through rivers and deposited at the beaches. Waves also play an important part in carrying sand to beaches. When offshore waves first make contact with the floor of the ocean they carry sand and deposit it on the beaches, this method of deposition varies greatly during the seasons with different wave action and tides. The outer banks are currently getting closer and closer to land. When anthropogenic influence overruns a beach negative effects occur. Removing rock and sand from coastline can reduce the weathering creating more sand and erosion is intensified. The building of seawalls, jetties, groins, etc. lead to adverse effects. They are temporary solutions to long term problems. It greatly disrupts the natural flow of sediment a long the coast line. While it may positively build up sand on the upstream side the downstream side will be much more susceptible to erosion. Due to the lack of deposited sediment and sand that gets trapped behind the jetties shoreline beyond the jetty will erode at a much faster rate because there s significantly less sand to replace the sand eroded by natural causes. For example, if your neighbor were to build a jetty they would experience build up of sediment on their side of it, but on your side you would see your part of the beach slowly erode away. All of the sediment brought down from currents and waves would get stuck behind the jetty and pile up leaving your side scarce. Waves, storms, and wind will eventually eat away at your sand and since the input of new sediment is much lower erosion would occur at a faster then replacement. (See picture on ... Trent Bridge The Veteran s Skyway Gateway to the Trent Bridge In the early 1990s, the aging swing bridge crossing the Trent River in Trenton, Ontario was replaced with a continuous span steel box girder bridge. The unique part of this process was that the new bridge was built adjacent to the existing swing bridge and slid laterally into place; this was the first time in North America that this technique had been done. The process consisted of five mains steps; first, the planning of such an undertaking, second, deciding on how to proceed, third, constructing the new bridge on site, fourth, removing the old swing bridge, and finally, sliding the new bridge into place, all the while ensuring minimal impact to the vehicular traffic through town and ... Thus, City councillors, working with the Ontario Ministry of Transportation and engineers from Declan Corporation of Toronto, conceived the plan of building a new bridge adjacent to the swing bridge, and later sliding it into place (Anderson Trenkler, 1991). But, before the construction of the new bridge could commence, engineers had to reverse the direction of the swing rotation of the existing bridge, as it swung directly towards the site the new bridge would be built and would impede on the construction process (Anderson Trenkler, 1991). Once the planning was finalized and the site prepped, construction could begin. In the spring of 1989, the construction of the new bridge began.
