12.4.1* The installation and maintenance of assemblies and
devices used to protect openings in walls, floors, and ceilings
against the spread of fire and smoke within, into, or out of
buildings shall comply with Section 12.4 and NFPA 80, Standard
for Fire Doors and Other Opening Protectives. [80:1.1]
12.7.4.1 Every opening in a fire barrier shall be protected to
limit the spread of fire and restrict the movement of smoke
from one side of the fire barrier to the other. [101: 8.3.4.1]

8.3.3.1 Openings required to have a fire protection rating by
Table 8.3.4.2 shall be protected by approved, listed, labeled
fire door assemblies and fire window assemblies and their
accompanying hardware, including all frames, closing devices,
anchorage, and sills in accordance with the requirements of
NFPA 80, Standard for Fire Doors and Other Opening Protectives,
except as otherwise specified in this Code.

716.5 Fire door and shutter assemblies.
Approved fire door and fire shutter assemblies shall be constructed
of any material or assembly of component materials that conforms
to the test requirements of Section 716.5.1, 716.5.2 or 716.5.3 and
the fire protection rating indicated in Table 716.5. Fire door frames
with transom lights, sidelights or both shall be permitted in
accordance with Section 716.5.6. Fire door assemblies and shutters
shall be installed in accordance with the provisions of this section
and NFPA 80.

tested, and maintained in accordance with NFPA 80.

5.2.4.1* Periodic inspections and testing shall be performed not
less than annually.
5.2.4.2 As a minimum, the provisions of 5.2.3 shall be included in
the periodic inspection and testing procedure.

(1) No open holes or breaks exist in surfaces of either the door or frame.

(2) Glazing, vision light frames, and glazing beads are intact and securely fastened in
place, if so equipped

(3) The door, frame, hinges, hardware, and noncombustible threshold are secured,
aligned, and in working order with no visible signs of damage.

(4) No parts are missing or broken.

(5) Door clearances at the door edge to the frame, on the pull side of the door, do not
exceed clearances listed in 4.8.4 and 6.3.1.

(7) If a coordinator is installed, the inactive leaf closes before the active leaf.

  • 3. Compartmentation as a System A space within a building that is enclosed by fire or smoke barriers on all sides, including the top and bottom.

NFPA 101, Life Safety Code 8.3.3.1 Openings required to have a fire protection rating by Table 8.3.4.2 shall be protected by approved, listed, labeled fire door assemblies and fire window assemblies and their accompanying hardware, including all frames, closing devices, anchorage, and sills in accordance with the requirements of NFPA 80, Standard for Fire Doors and Other Opening Protectives, except as otherwise specified in this Code.

  • 34. Inspection, Testing, Maintenance NFPA 101, Life Safety Code 8.3.3.3.1 Fire door assemblies shall be installed, inspected, tested, and maintained in accordance with NFPA 80.

Inspection, Testing, Maintenance NFPA 80, Standard for Fire Doors and Other Opening Protectives 5.2.4.1* Periodic inspections and testing shall be performed not less than annually. 5.2.4.2 As a minimum, the provisions of 5.2.3 shall be included in the periodic inspection and testing procedure.
