Analysis Of Alain De Boordon s The Consolations Of Philosophy
What is popular is not inherently true. That is what Alain De Botton is trying to show his readers
through his work, The Consolations of Philosophy. While there are many beliefs that are well known
and shared amongst a vast community, they can always be questioned, and if they can be questioned,
there may be an exception. De Botton states that the reason people do not question our societies
beliefs and values is fear of rejection by one s peers and the community as a whole; just as Socrates
was. However, some things that we, as a community, hold to be true are true and should not be
questioned, at times it is more important to stick to one s moral compass rather than question a
societies laws. Not wanting to be alienated from society is something we fear as individuals because
many people do not want to live their lives alone, being a part of a community can be important to
some people and while that can be questioned, it does not mean it is a bad thing. Being able to
question society allows for one to think for themselves and find their own beliefs rather than accepting
the ones from the environment they were born into. Today, the world is so diverse, with a range of
different and even contradictory beliefs on what is true, questioning them is The main argument
presented in De Botton s reading is that what is popular is not always true. Every society has a set of
beliefs they hold to be true and important. People will act according to these beliefs because it is
shown to them throughout their lives that this is the correct way to behave; going against the status
quo can result in unpopularity (De Botton, 2000, p9). The fear of rejection and unpopularity is strong
within each society, most individuals believe that it is important to be apart of a community, being
exiled from one would result in loneliness and most societal conventions, like marriage, revolve
around not being alone. Society tends to put pressure on people to marry, people who do not can be
seen as deficient and not to create one s own family can be a great source of anxiety for some
(Blackmore, 2005, p327), it is seen as important to not be alone in one s life. Even De Botton states,

Girlology Explains Friendship, Sex, Sexuality
The book I have read is Girlology it explains friendship , sex, sexuality, teen relationships and more.
When I read my book honestly I was impressed with what I read . it gave a good explanation ,facts,
and a good guideline to help deal with things and scenarios that could happen or even have happened
to you. This book helped giving me guidance to learn how to read people and more. I would
recommend this book to younger age groups as in middle school or freshman year, whenever they are
going to be around the most of the gossip, and more. It will help them have a guidance to lead them in
the path they want to go.
The book discusses about friendship it talks about the person you are and what you are looking for in

What Is The History Of Classical Music During The Baroque...
The Baroque Period lasted from 1600 to 1750. This period is where studies of classical music began.
During this time period, artists would make their music as intricate as possible to make it sound as
elegant as possible. This was a great time for royalty and nobility. The wealthiest households would
hire musicians, but depending on the household they might would have an entire orchestra. The
households would hire composers to compose songs for parties, balls, and ceremonies. The church
would also hire musicians, because of the general public s love for music. (Craig) Oratorios were
started in the Baroque Period. Oratorios are sung, much like operas, except for they were about
biblical stories. The only main difference is that oratorios are unstaged performances. Oratorios were
usually long performances, lasting for several hours. Churches would normally have them for the
public. Churches would also have Cantatas. Cantatas were basically the same thing as operas, but they
were much shorter. They were usually as long as a church service. (Craig) Instrumental music was still
well loved during the Baroque Period. Instrumental music was used for formal dances, like balls and
parties. Suites were also played; suites were made of different dance movements. The dance types are
allemande, bourree, courante, gavotte, gigue, minuet, sarabande, and waltz. The music would
normally have a constant beat and was often quite repetitive. (Craig) Vivaldi was a Baroque composer,

Sugar And Slaves By Richard Dunn
Lydia Phillips

Sugar Societies in the West Indies
During the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries, the sugar islands played a very important role for the
British government. They saw these colonies as an extremely beneficial mercantile society that could
gross them a great deal of wealth. However, for the colonists living on these islands it was an intense
struggle between enormous fortune and a premature death. Richard Dunn, author of Sugar and Slaves:
The Rise of the Planter Class in the English West Indies, 1624 1713, decided to shed light on these
seldom mentioned groups of settlers, who chose the Caribbean islands over mainland America. The
first settlers of the islands being buccaneers, along with their short lifespan, coupled with the
monoculture of the islands and a severe disparity between the rich and poor, created a distinct culture,
in what Dunn describes as a classically proportioned sugar society (Dunn 165).
Dunn begins his book in 1624, with the English gaining a foothold on the tiny island of St.
Christopher in the Caribbean. From that solitary outpost emerged a cohesive and potent master class
of tobacco and sugar planters that spread throughout the Caribbean (46), especially in Barbados and
Jamaica. Dunn refers to this society as a classically proportioned sugar society (165). What this means
is that there were few very wealthy sugar planters who owned and managed large masses of slaves.
Big planters, at their height, were

Scurvy Research Paper
The Age of Discovery was fueled by molecules of the spice trade, but the lack of another molecule
almost ended it. Over 90% of his crew didn t survive Magellan s circumnavigation due to scurvy, a
disease caused by a deficiency of the ascorbic acid molecule, dietary vitamin C. Symptoms such as
excessive bruising, muscle pain, loss of teeth, diarrhea, and many more horrible symptoms come from
scurvy. One main symptoms is depression that happens at an early age, but mainly you were
exhausted and had sores that did not heal. Scurvy is an ancient disease. Scurvy became a
commonplace at sea due to the development of more efficient sets of sails and fully rigged ships as
longer voyages were made. The access of fresh water as they were on their voyages meant that scurvy
was seldom a major problem. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Consumption, bloody flux, head lice, scabies, and other contagious skin conditions were also
common. At the outset of a voyage provision would be taken on board was butter, cheese, vinegar,
bread, dried peas, beer, and rum. Soon the butter became rancid, the bread moldy, fired peas weevil
infested, cheese hard, and beer sour. Because of that no vitamin C was provided, so signs of scurvy
were often evident. In 1497 Vasco da Gama sailed around the southern tip of Africa and 160 of his
members of his crew died from scurvy. For centuries scurvy was responsible for more deaths at sea.
Anyone who showed signs of scurvy were dosed with three teaspoons of lemon juice every morning.
The crew members on Jacques Cartier s second expedition were badly affected by severe outbreak of
scurvy causing many to die. An infusion of needles of spuce tree resulted in miraculous results. The
symptoms were lessened and the disease rapidly

Analysis Of Nathaniel Hawthorne s The Scarlet Letter
Jalon Ellison
English 10
Mrs. Jackson

A Sinner Defined by The Scarlet Letter
Society has not changed as far as labeling people and probably never will. In the Puritan society they
branded, tortured, and defined human beings the way they saw them even though they did not know
how the person they were humiliating truly was. Hester Prynne is a good example of this in the novel
The Scarlet Letter written by the author Nathaniel Hawthorne. Hawthorne is using the character
Hester in this novel to show how society can truly label people. People can be defined by the biggest
thing in their life and in this case the letter A has brought a whole new meaning to Hester s life and has
defined her apart from others in the community in a way she never thought.
The Puritan society never focuses on Hester, how she acts, who she talks to, or even what she wears
until she commits a sin. After the whole community knows of her sin then they know her as the
adulterer, the sinner, the one who should be punished but what they do not know is what kind of a
person she really is. Hester Prynne is kind, smart, and a beautiful woman who is trying to do her best
in life in the new world considering her husband left her and did not return until she is brought upon
the scaffold in front of the town for humiliation. The Puritan community is continuously going by
their rules and guidelines and not caring to look for the whole truth but just enough truth to harm those
who have done

How Did Tommy Douglass Affect Canada
Tommy Douglas was the first person to ever lead a social democratic government in Canada. It was
because of his views that his political opponents often criticized him. They labelled him as a red and a
communist at times, because he believed in socialism and that everyone deserved free healthcare, even
the one s who were poor and and in a bad situation. His impact on Canadians was a great one.
Especially the ones were suffering from the economic depression that had it s grip on Saskatchewan.
Tommy Douglas worked to create a better society in Saskatchewan and Canada, he wanted to alleviate
the suffering. He is known for how he drastically increased welfare benefits. By providing electricity
to the farmers in the rural areas, he helped the poor farmers. By establishing a universal healthcare
system, he helped the ones who were suffering from disease or sickness but couldn t pay for help. By
introducing the first ever auto insurance in Canada, he made accidents less tragic. He was a hero the

was more difficult to achieve, workers had to be cut. In 1928, the net farming income was $363
million, but in 1933, it dropped to a low $11 million. Many citizens were put into poverty. Tommy
Douglas saw the suffering and hardship around him and tried to help. He led relief efforts and
programs such as food distribution centres, but it wasn t enough. It came to him that politics would be
the way to help the people, and he was right. Tommy Douglas and the CCF gave healthcare to those
who couldn t afford it, he established more healthcare locations, and provided cheaper public
transportation. Douglas did all he could to try to alleviate the suffering the citizens were going

A Study on Solution-Focused Brief Therapy
Solution focused brief therapy (SFBT) radically transforms the therapeutic process and relationship.
As the name suggests, solution focused brief therapy is about being brief and focusing on solutions,
rather than on problems, ( About Solution Focused Brief Therapy, n.d.). Instead of drawn out and
costly sessions with therapists, the client receives highly focused therapeutic intervals that do not
delve into the past other than what is absolutely necessary. Only three to five sessions are generally
warranted for solution focused brief therapy (Iveson, 2002). The underlying principle of being
solution focused is that therapy should be proactive. The Solution Focused Brief Therapy Association
(n.d.) claims, so much time and energy, as well as many resources, are spent on talking about
problems, rather than thinking about what might help us to get to solutions that would bring on
realistic, reasonable relief as quickly as possible. In fact, during the intake interview, the client might
not even be asked about what the problem is, in order to keep the therapy focused exclusively on the
solution or what is envisioned as positive outcomes (Iveson, 2002, p. 149). The purpose is to get the
client to think immediately and critically about goals and how to achieve them. All that clients need is
to want something different even if at the starting point they do not think that something different is
possible, (Iveson, 2002, p. 149).

The Stroke Combustion Cycle ( Ice ) Revolutionized The Way...
Introduction I m interested on this topic because, I think that the four stroke combustion cycle in
Internal Combustion Engines (ICE) revolutionized the way the Man think and Moves. Internal
Combustion Engines are also significantly more efficient than the well known steam engine. Today it
has better power than electric batteries and motors, and offers similar overall efficiency. Small,
lightweight ICE made personal transportation possible. It transformed how we built cities and did
business. Engines are so important for the advancement on any society, nowadays without engines it
will be much harder for man to do what it look simple and ordinary in today s world. More than
importance of this topic on my career or profession, is the importance on the topic in our daily live,

Julie Andrews Research Paper
Summary Julie Andrews was born Julia Elizabeth Wells on 1 October 1935 in Walton on Thames,
Surrey. She is a born natural at performing, and she loves the stage. She made her first stage
appearance at the very young age of two, as a fairy. Her aunt, Joan worked for dancing school where
her mother, Barbara provided piano accompaniment for classes and performances, and her father, Ted
made the stage sets. It was all too natural for her to come to be on the stage. Due to her mother s stage
ambitions for her, she was home taught and as her father was a teacher, it became convenient. World
War II broke out when Julie was four, and her father volunteered for the Royal Air Force. Her parents

musical career was over, as she has never again been able to sing with all her previous quality. She
filed a malpractice suit and it was settled out of court. During this time, in 1997 the Queen appointed
Julie Dame Commander of the British Empire, for her services as an entertainer, becoming the fourth
woman to be from the performing arts to be given the honor. Since that time she has taken to writing
children s stories with her husband. She has also taken on many movies, such as The Princess Diaries
(2001), and lending a voice to the animated film Shrek 2 (2004). In January 2007 she was honored

The Emergence Of A Hazardous Concept Analysis
Definition of Technology: Hazardous or Honest?
Leo Marx, once a professor at Massachusetts Institute of Technology and a Harvard graduate, wrote
an article titled Technology The Emergence of a Hazardous Concept . In this article, the author
explores the modern day definition of the word technology and argues that technology offers too
broad of a definition and is ill fitting to describe all technical advancements and their creators.
Technology can be defined as the branch of knowledge that deals with the creation and use of
technical means and their interrelation with life, society, and the environment, drawing upon such
subjects as industrial arts, engineering, applied science, and pure science (dictionary.com). On the
other hand, it can ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In simpler terms, Lukacs is saying that there is so much to the word technology that it all should not
be confined into one. He also believes, like Marx, that human involvement is not credited enough.
Marx also refers to Lukacs definition of reification: is what occurs when we endow a human activity
with the characteristics of a thing or things (Lukacs, 83 87). Marx proceeds to argue that technologies
are represented by things. For instance, Marx says that when someone hears transportation technology
what comes to mind are things like automobiles, airplanes, and trains. This, in some way, distracts the
person from the human involvement. Let s take an automobile for an example. Say you have a Prius.
Often times when someone talks about a car, we think a lot about the brand. It is a well known fact
that the Prius is made by Toyota. It also is obvious that Toyota is a company made up of people who
come up with ideas for cars and put them into action. Therefore, when someone thinks about a car,
they also think about the company. This proves that we do acknowledge the fact that human creation is
a huge part of technology. Marx insists that technologies are viewed and put into a category of things .
Nonetheless, it can be said that Marx argument is invalid. Human involvement in technology is not
only implied, but it simply would not exist without humans. As stated in the above paragraph, it is
clear that technology cannot produce itself. Even when we cover the topic of technology in a history
class for example, we learn about the creation, who created, and what it does. As an illustration, think
of a telephone. As part of our education, in American history class, teachers teach us about the
invention of

Linguistic Relativity Essay
Introduction:
Linguistic relativity is the notion that language can affect our thought processes, and is often referred
to as the Sapir Whorf hypothesis , after the two linguists who brought the idea into the spotlight.
Whorf writes how Language is not merely a reproducing instrument for voicing ideas but rather is
itself the shaper of ideas, the program and guide for the individual s mental activity (1956:212), and I
will explain how it is able to do so. In this essay I will argue that certain ways of mental
categorization, spatial cognition and reality interpretation, based on the characteristics of our specific
variety of language, influence our perception of the world. I will discuss how languages divide up
nature differently, and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Dirven and Verspoor note how the English differentiation is entirely forced on these children by the
contrast between the English prepositions in and on (1998:140), whereas in Korean, Kkita (glossable
loosely as fit ...) is indifferent to whether the Figure goes into, onto, over, or together with the Ground,
as long as it leads to a tight fit (Choi and Bowerman 1991:90).
The fact that the tested children grouped the actions in accordance with the grammatical structure of
their respective language is evidence for linguistic relativity, as both groups of children construe(d) the
relations between objects in the world on the basis of their language specific categories, and not on the
basis of some universal, conceptual categories (Dirven and Verspoor 1998:140 141). This suggests
that the children from the two linguistic communities will partly see the world in a different way,
being inclined to categorise the things they see in contrasting fashions.
Certain features are deemed important enough to warrant a category, and different languages prioritise
different qualities. What this means is that when we say something belongs to a certain set, e.g. that
putting toys into a container falls into an in group, we are focussing on some, but neglecting other
details of the situation, such as the tightness of the fit. The framework of our language

Carlody Hobson Speech Analysis
Imagine living in a world that is seemingly against all that you are and all that you want to be.
Through modern stereotypes and accustomed oppression, the odds are working against minorities. As
a society we have become familiarized with the comfort of color blindness, this is a term used for the
ignorance that surrounds diversity issues today. Mellody Hobson, executive president of Ariel
Investments, is an African American woman that has chosen to confront the lack of understanding
involving diversity issues involving race, gender, sexuality, religion, socioeconomic status, and
education and tagging it as Color Bravery. Throughout her discussion, Hobson engages and connects
with her audience through her personal stories, facial expressions, tone of voice, and passion about
diversity. Hobson sees her audience as individuals who are struggling to understand the diversity
issues that surround race, gender, and religion. She assumes that her audience has little awareness of
the institutionalized injustices minorities face everyday. With that being said, she does not use her
discussion to ridicule or judge them for not understanding the real problems involving diversity,
instead she focuses on opening their eyes to begin to understand the obstacles our society needs to
overcome in order to start celebrating diversity. Throughout her speech, Hobson infers that her
audience needs a little help grasping the significance of her anecdotes. For example, she starts her

Endocrine Disruptors Research Paper
Most individuals are not aware of the things that are bad for the body until a noticeable reaction
occurs. With this in mind, endocrine disrupting chemicals are chemicals that interfere with our
endocrine system causing a problem. Therefore, in this paper, I plan to inform you about three
endocrine disruptors that are bad for the human body known as flame retardants, phytoestrogens and
triclosan. I will contain information about the chemicals found, products that they are located in and
the effect they have on animal and human tissue. Next, I will show a relationship between
endocrinology and endocrine disrupting chemicals on affecting homeostasis and discuss my reaction
to the information I learned and how I feel about it overall. Flame

This shows that there was a lot of influence of the authority and people were even afraid of talking
anything against them. Although people wish to do something different but they end up following the
instruction given by authority figures.
1.2 Principles of Delegation Of Authority
According to Koontz et al authority is delegated when decision –making power is vested in a superior
by a subordinate.
Delegation of authority is not an option it is a necessity for an organizational hierarchy so that only
one person is not responsible for handling all the things.
The principle of scalar chain:
There is a proper scalar chain between the officers, as the job of each and every officer is clearly
defined. As we can see that Col. Mathew Andrew Markinson had to report to Col. Nathan R. Jassep
and then Pfc. Downey and Pfc. Louden Dowry had to report to their senior officers (Col. Jessep and
Col. Mathew). However in the movie, it is not clearly defined that who has to report whom but still it
is clear by watching the movie that there was a proper scalar chain. Each and every Marine working at
the US naval base in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, knew whom they had to report to and what are their
duties and responsibilities. They even knew that if they broke the rules they would have to face a lot
of negative consequences (for example, CODE RED)
The principle of unity of command:
The unity of command can also be seen in the movie as all

Pet Peeves Research Paper
I have chosen to write about my pet peeves. I would like you to know, I don t ever vent about my life,
normally I am actually the therapist of my group of friends, meaning that they usually tell me what s
wrong with them. Considering that, this is a list that is long in the making. I mustn t hold this in any
longer. By the way, If I use the words you or your I am not talking to you directly, I m just talking to a
general audience. So, without further ado, my list begins. NUMBER ONE: I loathe it when I have a
slushie and I drink all the juice and all I have left is the ice because the ice takes FOREVER to melt
and by the time it has melted, I have just given up and thrown it away. There goes five dollars!

walking. People are trying to get to their classes, they don t need you stagnant, in their way having a
conversation with your friends about which guy is more attractive. Furthermore, please don t stop
right in front of me when I m walking. I might run you over on accident . NUMBER FIVE: If I say
something and you think it might be funny to respond with what? I didn t hear you repeatedly to make
me repeat myself, I might yell at you. That s not even funny. I just want to know, what kind of person
is entertained by that? And depending on the amount of times you make me repeat myself, I might
think it funny to not hear you when you ask for a favor or what notes you were supposed to take while
you took your ten minute bathroom break. NUMBER SIX: If you ever come to my ice cream shop, It

Transformational Leadership Within A Health Care Setting
Using transformational leadership in nursing practice can increase morale, motivation, and enhance
job performance, which can ultimately improve patient outcomes and quality of care. The purpose of
this paper is to explain what exactly transformational leadership is, and how it can be used by nurse
leaders within a health care setting to inspire positive change within the working environment to
improve patient quality of patient care and improve job performance.
Introduction
As we know the healthcare system is constantly changing, therefore requiring effective leadership
among nurses. With that said leadership that promotes positive change is necessary in a health care
setting. Transformational leadership was developed by leadership expert James MacGregor Burns in
the late 1970 s. Transformational leadership is considered a contemporary leadership theory.
Contemporary theories of leadership place emphasis on teamwork and collaboration, and is built
around the premise of change. Transformational leadership is a process that motivates followers by
appealing to the higher ideas and moral values where the leader has a deep set of internal values and
ideas and is persuasive at motivating followers to act in a way that sustains the greater good rather
than their own interests (Burns, 1978 as cited in Owen Doody Catriona Doody, 2012, p.1212).
Therefore, when it comes to implementing transformational leadership in a healthcare setting the
nurse leader must takes on various

The Importance Of Referent Power In Music
The power to influence people to do something depends on the knowledge I have concerning the thing
and this type of power is called expert power (Hughes, Ginnett, Curphy, 2015). For example, as the
choir director of my church back in Ghana, I have a lot of influence on the choir members as
individuals and the choir as a whole because of my knowledge and experience in music. The
knowledge and experience I have in music wields me more power even over anyone I meet for the
first time doing music. As a result, I influence the songs we sing at church, the commitment level of
the members and decision making processes towards the choir s development.
Referent power is the power that people have over followers because of the relationship between them
(Hughes, et al, 2015). I have a low level in referent power at the beginning of my relationship with
people around me and even at work because of my personality. I am an introvert and it takes a long
time for me to get attached to people around me. For example, when I was working with one of the
universities back in Ghana as the administrative assistant to the liaison officer of the university, it took
about three months for me to get closer to the secretary.
Based on the theory of referent power, the secretary has traits of a referent power. This is because of
the strong relationship that developed between us after I got acquainted to her. Through that, she
influenced my attitude towards handling student complaints about

The Real Monster In Victor Frankenstein
In Mary Shelley´s Gothic novel, Frankenstein, the Monster once claimed, The fallen angel becomes a
malignant devil. Yet even that enemy of God and man had friends and associates in his desolation; I
am alone. Frankenstein, since the 1910 film adaptation, has known a series of several adaptations that
changed drastically, not only the plot but one of the main characters, the Monster, from stealing its
creator´s name to being portrayed as a cold villain. Though, in the original storyline, the biggest threat
to society is the creator itself, the one pretending to play as God, Victor Frankenstein. This essay will
discuss the nature of the main characters of the novel and conclude who is the real monster in the end.

Frankenstein was a coward that used science selfishly to become a God without taking responsibility
of the retaliation of defying the laws of Nature. The Monster did kill many and became a murderer,
acts that cannot be forgot except that they are the consequence of the negligence of its creator. That is
why ethics are necessary, as people like Victor Frankenstein, in the name of the human civilization, do
terrible and unethical acts. Victor had an obsession, just like the Monster, the first one with building
and the other one with destroying. In the end, the Monster could have been the result of an experiment
that could have to be useful for society in some way, at least, better than an indifferent criminal. Dr.
Victor Frankenstein is the biggest threat to society as he has a negligent attitude, governed by
impulsive attitudes, Frankenstein, in the beginning, tries to be good but the Monster embraced his
darker side, his ambition, and egotism which consumed Victor s entire life, ending up in misery that
involved not only the one playing as God and its creation but everyone around them that had nothing

Further, there was one controller in the Park City head office who she would consult to discuss the
differences in accounts across the stores. She also offered monthly bonuses to her store managers if
they were able to meet the monthly sales forecasts and was quite generous in the amounts offered for
the same. Thus there MIS also kept a record of all the sales across the years and made a yearly trend
analysis for each store separately. The District Sales Manager was then make the appropriate forecasts
for how little or how much additional sales ( by volume) could be made at the stores. Further Debbi
appointed a Vice President of Operations who reported to her directly about the management of the
store controllers daily. Each of these store controllers (with 35 to 75 stores) reported to the Vice
President daily, with computer reports that summarized daily sales. Further, the computer reports

important for the store managers to sell cookies than to maintain paper work. The MIS structure was

Analyzing The Code Of Protein Self Organization Process
1 Introduction:
Protein aggregation, the self assembly process by which native proteins convert into insoluble fibrillar
structures, has varied implications in human health, biotechnology and material science like
influencing the yield of protein expression or to be involved with a class of late onset and slow
progressing diseases like Alzheimer s, Parkinson s. Deciphering the code of protein self organization
process resulting into aggregation has been an intellectual challenge for scientists over the past few
decades. Active research in this field and many recent advances in physical techniques along with
molecular dynamics simulation over the past few years have significantly increased our understanding
of the initial driving forces ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Stirring as an agitation method is therefore quite useful in kinetic studies as process of aggregation
without agitation can sometime take several days to months for completion. Table 1.2 describe this
effect of agitation on aggregation process of various proteins, clearly showing the drastic change in
kinetic parameters like lag time in absence and presence of agitation condition like stirring. Such
agitation could possibly induce cavitation, local thermal effects and/or interfacial effects involving
rapid transportation of either aggregated or adsorbed species from the interface into solution. Bolder et
al. in their study on whey protein have speculated that stirring may also be breaking the immature
fibrils leading to production of more active fibrils. But the mechanism of how aggregation process
gets speed up on stirring is hitherto unclear.
In this study, we have tried to unravel the effects of stirring on protein aggregation process, especially
on the early events during the lag phase of the kinetic profile which governs the rate and
morphological developments of final aggregates. Over the past decades, most of the biophysical
research has been directed towards later phase of aggregation especially about the structure of mature
fibril and on possible oligomeric toxic

Odysseus As A Hero Archetype
Not all heros come in movies or little kid books. Some heros come from thousands of years ago and
are nothing like the heros today. Keep reading and you ll find out what I mean! Some heros are known
for saving the day and having a happy ever after but, for this hero, nothing good happened for a long
time. This hero, who goes by Odysseus, went through very tough times before he even saw a glimpse
of happiness after twenty long years. This hero s journey happened over a thousand years ago in the
Ancient Greece. Odysseus and his men sailed across the seas to fight in the Trojan War but, because of
his men s stupidity, took him longer to get home then he was planning. In this story, there are many

The prince always have an obstacle to face and some obstacles come with one eye and an appetite.
The monster knows none but savage ways and a quote to help my statement is A prodigious man slept
in this cave alones, and took his flocks to graze afield remote from all companions knowing none but
savage ways a brute so huge (580)Homer. The monster archetype can be anything that you fear. The
monster can also be anything that is a bad temptation. A quote from the story to help my thesis is the
sirens who lure sailors to their destruction;the wandering rocks, sea rocks that even destroy seabirds at
flight (580)Homer. The sirens can stand for temptation and temptation is not always good. Sometimes,
monsters can come when you have two decisions and neither one is a good choice but you have to
choose and this is an example of my statement The perils of the sea monster Scylia and nearby, the
whirlpool charybdis (580)Homer. Both decision can be bad but you still have to choose and it will
have consequences. I know a similar situation is with popularity, you do the wrong things to be
popular and get in trouble for it or not do it and be left out. Now do think this was so easy for
Odysseus? He had to have a damsel in distress to save to become the hero, or should I say, damsels in
distress. The damsel in distress archetype is an extra complication added into the story. Odysseus men
got themselves into some serious trouble even though Odysseus warned them.

U.s. Health Care System
The U.S. health care system faces challenges and it is urgent that the American people become aware
of these challenges. There are approximately 46 million Americans who are uninsured, and many
insured Americans who face rapid increases in premiums have to pay out of pocket costs. As Congress
and the Obama administration consider ways to invest new funds to reduce the number of Americans
without insurance coverage, people must address shortfalls in the quality and efficiency of care that
lead to higher costs and to poor health outcomes. If something is not done soon, there will be many
more who will not have health care coverage that is affordable or they will be without coverage
altogether.
There is evidence that Americans often do not get the care they need. This is alarming because the
United States spends more money per person on health care than any other nation in the world. Health
care in the United State is not used as effectively as it should be used; this results in higher spending
on complex and chronic diseases. Patients who suffer from hypertension, heart disease, and diabetes
often do not receive the health care and effective treatments such as drug therapies or self management
services to help them more effectively manage their conditions. People with these diseases need more
than medicine; they need the treatment and health education to help them know and understand their
disease and be able to live a more healthy lifestyle. This is true for insured,

A Brief Note On Stones River National Battlefield
Stones River National Battlefield Stones River Battlefield was an obvious choice for this assignment. I
live and study in Murfreesboro, Tennessee. I know that there is a lot of history in the area, but it is not
often that we encounter this history on a daily basis. It is important to know about the history because
it helps us to understand the present and the culture of any area. I found that this battlefield was
actually very important to the events of the Civil War, therefore, I knew that this would be a great
place for me to visit for this assignment. There really is not that much literature readily available about
the Battle of Stones River or the Battlefield. Therefore, taking the battlefield in in person becomes
even more critical. It is amazing to see that the battlefield has been preserved as well as it has been
especially given the rapid industrialization that has occurred in the city where it is located. I was able
to locate a publication printed by the National Parks Service that explains how the battlefield changed
in the early 1990s. From this publication, I found some startling information. The battlefield is located
near a part of Murfreesboro that is rapidly expanding and has been for some time. Not surprisingly,
many of the original structures have been completely removed to make way for housing divisions and
shopping strip malls. During the Civil War, there was a farmhouse located near the battlefield. The
Confederate soldiers had to pass the house and

Fda Approval Process Of Drugs Essay

day, but that s not the case. For some people it took several days, weeks, months, and even years to

breast cancer that I understood why it took so long for others to heal and the process that they had to

what it would take to get a drug that would cure cancer through the approval process on the shelf to
save some many others just like my grandmother. But I kept running into a dead end. Everything
seemed to keep pointing towards chemotherapy and radiation. Although I wanted something to heal

Levi Jordan Plantation Essay
The Plantation
The Levi Jordan Plantation was established in 1848 and was abandoned in 1888, probably because of
mistreatment by Levi Jordan. Some artifacts that were found on the plantation included coins, rings,
bone saw frame, and a slave tag. Some caches were found, and in them were shells, animal bones,
wine bottles, copper, cast iron pans, grapes, and tobacco pipes. Pots were also found next to the
hearth, in what is thought to be the Blacksmith s Cabin. The heath was probably used to bake clay and
for warmth;it was the center of activity in the cabin. In the blacksmith s cabin, bullet molds, metal
tools, arrowheads, and some toys were found, leading people to believe that there were children there.
The arrowheads were probably not used for hunting because they had guns, and it s much harder to
hunt with a bow than guns. It is thought that they might have been used to make the bullets the right
shape, as they were found next to the bullets. Some animal remains found on the plantation led people
to believe that the guns were not just used for war, but also for hunting. Another type of thing that was

John P. Kotter s Eight Stages Of Change
Introduction
The definition of change according to the Webster dictionary is to become different or to make
someone or something different. John P Kotter writes that change is always about changing the
behavior of people (preface XII) Kotter explains that change is a concept that is used by organizations
to restructure or improve their business behavior. Many companies find it difficult to initiate change
due to the lack of motivate employees or leaders. In his book Kotter proposes eight stage process that
could help organizations that are looking for change.

The Eight important stages of change by John P. Kotter

driving change are not doing their job, and nobody wants to confront the issue, (Kotter and Cohen,

work environment will never happen. To create effective teams you need the right people that can
work together as a team. Kotten list four ingredients that are important to create a good team on page

A single individual who feels great urgency usually pulls in the first people.
Individuals are selected to have the right combination of capabilities within the team.
The team is created by pulling people in and occasionally pushing people out.
As change progresses throughout large organizations, additional group are formed at lower levels.

Sensational Minuteman Analysis
Emotions are often thought to be personal. One may say I am sad. or I am mad. or I am scared. and
frequently we believe those emotions are inhabiting just the body in which they were created. Many
times we fail to notice how those three emotions: sadness, anger, fear and many more can transfer to
many people whether that affect is unintentional or purposeful.Yet, Sara Ahmed in Affective
Economics explores the ways in which emotions and affects moves through bodies and effects groups
of people. Ahmed explores how emotions can be performative and productive in order to show the
effects emotions can have. Likewise, in Katie E. Oliviero s Sensational Minutemen Oliviero explores

represent a greater meaning. One example of this is the gun that the Minutemen carry. The volunteer s

frame undocumented immigrants as criminal and violent and the nation and its citizens as both
threatened and powerfully inured to border assaults. The guns, even though they are emptied, reflect
the symbol of danger the undocumented immigrant represents and the need for protection of the
nation. The only way this fetishization happens is the repeated circulation of the emotions around
which the guns represent. Ahmed explains, affect does not reside positively in the sign or commodity,
but is produced only as an effect of its circulation. Here Ahmed is further emphasizing the power that
emotions and affects hold: the creation symbols and inciting meaning into mere objects like the prop

How Far Was Germany Responsible For World War 1 Essay
Although Germany had a large responsibility in the outbreak of World War One, Germany cannot be
solely be blamed for World War One commencing as other European nations were equally

include Nationalism, imperialism, the assassination of the archduke and the alliances. These
contributing factors will justify why Germany is not to be solely blamed for the outbreak of World
War One.
Nationalism was a major contributing factor to the outbreak of World War One. During the lead up to

Between 1905 and 1913, tensions among the great powers increased as a result of crises in northern

  • 2. Analysis Of Alain De Boordon s The Consolations Of Philosophy What is popular is not inherently true. That is what Alain De Botton is trying to show his readers through his work, The Consolations of Philosophy. While there are many beliefs that are well known and shared amongst a vast community, they can always be questioned, and if they can be questioned, there may be an exception. De Botton states that the reason people do not question our societies beliefs and values is fear of rejection by one s peers and the community as a whole; just as Socrates was. However, some things that we, as a community, hold to be true are true and should not be questioned, at times it is more important to stick to one s moral compass rather than question a societies laws. Not wanting to be alienated from society is something we fear as individuals because many people do not want to live their lives alone, being a part of a community can be important to some people and while that can be questioned, it does not mean it is a bad thing. Being able to question society allows for one to think for themselves and find their own beliefs rather than accepting the ones from the environment they were born into. Today, the world is so diverse, with a range of different and even contradictory beliefs on what is true, questioning them is The main argument presented in De Botton s reading is that what is popular is not always true. Every society has a set of beliefs they hold to be true and important. People will act according to these beliefs because it is shown to them throughout their lives that this is the correct way to behave; going against the status quo can result in unpopularity (De Botton, 2000, p9). The fear of rejection and unpopularity is strong within each society, most individuals believe that it is important to be apart of a community, being exiled from one would result in loneliness and most societal conventions, like marriage, revolve around not being alone. Society tends to put pressure on people to marry, people who do not can be seen as deficient and not to create one s own family can be a great source of anxiety for some (Blackmore, 2005, p327), it is seen as important to not be alone in one s life. Even De Botton states, My priority was to be liked, rather than to speak the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 4. What Is The History Of Classical Music During The Baroque... The Baroque Period lasted from 1600 to 1750. This period is where studies of classical music began. During this time period, artists would make their music as intricate as possible to make it sound as elegant as possible. This was a great time for royalty and nobility. The wealthiest households would hire musicians, but depending on the household they might would have an entire orchestra. The households would hire composers to compose songs for parties, balls, and ceremonies. The church would also hire musicians, because of the general public s love for music. (Craig) Oratorios were started in the Baroque Period. Oratorios are sung, much like operas, except for they were about biblical stories. The only main difference is that oratorios are unstaged performances. Oratorios were usually long performances, lasting for several hours. Churches would normally have them for the public. Churches would also have Cantatas. Cantatas were basically the same thing as operas, but they were much shorter. They were usually as long as a church service. (Craig) Instrumental music was still well loved during the Baroque Period. Instrumental music was used for formal dances, like balls and parties. Suites were also played; suites were made of different dance movements. The dance types are allemande, bourree, courante, gavotte, gigue, minuet, sarabande, and waltz. The music would normally have a constant beat and was often quite repetitive. (Craig) Vivaldi was a Baroque composer, often known ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Sugar And Slaves By Richard Dunn Lydia Phillips Dr. Hill HIST 300SS 9/15/15 Sugar Societies in the West Indies During the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries, the sugar islands played a very important role for the British government. They saw these colonies as an extremely beneficial mercantile society that could gross them a great deal of wealth. However, for the colonists living on these islands it was an intense struggle between enormous fortune and a premature death. Richard Dunn, author of Sugar and Slaves: The Rise of the Planter Class in the English West Indies, 1624 1713, decided to shed light on these seldom mentioned groups of settlers, who chose the Caribbean islands over mainland America. The first settlers of the islands being buccaneers, along with their short lifespan, coupled with the monoculture of the islands and a severe disparity between the rich and poor, created a distinct culture, in what Dunn describes as a classically proportioned sugar society (Dunn 165). Dunn begins his book in 1624, with the English gaining a foothold on the tiny island of St. Christopher in the Caribbean. From that solitary outpost emerged a cohesive and potent master class of tobacco and sugar planters that spread throughout the Caribbean (46), especially in Barbados and Jamaica. Dunn refers to this society as a classically proportioned sugar society (165). What this means is that there were few very wealthy sugar planters who owned and managed large masses of slaves. Big planters, at their height, were ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Over 90% of his crew didn t survive Magellan s circumnavigation due to scurvy, a disease caused by a deficiency of the ascorbic acid molecule, dietary vitamin C. Consumption, bloody flux, head lice, scabies, and other contagious skin conditions were also common. At the outset of a voyage provision would be taken on board was butter, cheese, vinegar, bread, dried peas, beer, and rum. Soon the butter became rancid, the bread moldy, fired peas weevil infested, cheese hard, and beer sour. Because of that no vitamin C was provided, so signs of scurvy were often evident. In 1497 Vasco da Gama sailed around the southern tip of Africa and 160 of his members of his crew died from scurvy. For centuries scurvy was responsible for more deaths at sea. Anyone who showed signs of scurvy were dosed with three teaspoons of lemon juice every morning. The crew members on Jacques Cartier s second expedition were badly affected by severe outbreak of scurvy causing many to die. An infusion of needles of spuce tree resulted in miraculous results. • 7. Analysis Of Nathaniel Hawthorne s The Scarlet Letter Jalon Ellison English 10 Mrs. Jackson 16 December 2015 A Sinner Defined by The Scarlet Letter Society has not changed as far as labeling people and probably never will. In the Puritan society they branded, tortured, and defined human beings the way they saw them even though they did not know how the person they were humiliating truly was. Hester Prynne is a good example of this in the novel The Scarlet Letter written by the author Nathaniel Hawthorne. Hawthorne is using the character Hester in this novel to show how society can truly label people. People can be defined by the biggest thing in their life and in this case the letter A has brought a whole new meaning to Hester s life and has defined her apart from others in the community in a way she never thought. The Puritan society never focuses on Hester, how she acts, who she talks to, or even what she wears until she commits a sin. After the whole community knows of her sin then they know her as the adulterer, the sinner, the one who should be punished but what they do not know is what kind of a person she really is. Hester Prynne is kind, smart, and a beautiful woman who is trying to do her best in life in the new world considering her husband left her and did not return until she is brought upon the scaffold in front of the town for humiliation. The Puritan community is continuously going by their rules and guidelines and not caring to look for the whole truth but just enough truth to harm those who have done ... As the name suggests, solution focused brief therapy is about being brief and focusing on solutions, rather than on problems, ( About Solution Focused Brief Therapy, n.d.). Instead of drawn out and costly sessions with therapists, the client receives highly focused therapeutic intervals that do not delve into the past other than what is absolutely necessary. Only three to five sessions are generally warranted for solution focused brief therapy (Iveson, 2002). The underlying principle of being solution focused is that therapy should be proactive. The Solution Focused Brief Therapy Association (n.d.) claims, so much time and energy, as well as many resources, are spent on talking about problems, rather than thinking about what might help us to get to solutions that would bring on realistic, reasonable relief as quickly as possible. In fact, during the intake interview, the client might not even be asked about what the problem is, in order to keep the therapy focused exclusively on the solution or what is envisioned as positive outcomes (Iveson, 2002, p. 149). The purpose is to get the client to think immediately and critically about goals and how to achieve them. All that clients need is to want something different even if at the starting point they do not think that something different is possible, (Iveson, 2002, p. 149). Introduction I m interested on this topic because, I think that the four stroke combustion cycle in Internal Combustion Engines (ICE) revolutionized the way the Man think and Moves. Internal Combustion Engines are also significantly more efficient than the well known steam engine. Today it has better power than electric batteries and motors, and offers similar overall efficiency. Small, lightweight ICE made personal transportation possible. It transformed how we built cities and did business. Engines are so important for the advancement on any society, nowadays without engines it will be much harder for man to do what it look simple and ordinary in today s world. Her aunt, Joan worked for dancing school where her mother, Barbara provided piano accompaniment for classes and performances, and her father, Ted made the stage sets. It was all too natural for her to come to be on the stage. Due to her mother s stage ambitions for her, she was home taught and as her father was a teacher, it became convenient. • 14. The Emergence Of A Hazardous Concept Analysis Definition of Technology: Hazardous or Honest? Leo Marx, once a professor at Massachusetts Institute of Technology and a Harvard graduate, wrote an article titled Technology The Emergence of a Hazardous Concept . In this article, the author explores the modern day definition of the word technology and argues that technology offers too broad of a definition and is ill fitting to describe all technical advancements and their creators. Technology can be defined as the branch of knowledge that deals with the creation and use of technical means and their interrelation with life, society, and the environment, drawing upon such subjects as industrial arts, engineering, applied science, and pure science (dictionary.com). He also believes, like Marx, that human involvement is not credited enough. Marx also refers to Lukacs definition of reification: is what occurs when we endow a human activity with the characteristics of a thing or things (Lukacs, 83 87). Marx proceeds to argue that technologies are represented by things. For instance, Marx says that when someone hears transportation technology what comes to mind are things like automobiles, airplanes, and trains. This, in some way, distracts the person from the human involvement. Let s take an automobile for an example. Say you have a Prius. Often times when someone talks about a car, we think a lot about the brand. It is a well known fact that the Prius is made by Toyota. It also is obvious that Toyota is a company made up of people who come up with ideas for cars and put them into action. Therefore, when someone thinks about a car, they also think about the company. This proves that we do acknowledge the fact that human creation is a huge part of technology. Marx insists that technologies are viewed and put into a category of things . Nonetheless, it can be said that Marx argument is invalid. Human involvement in technology is not only implied, but it simply would not exist without humans. As stated in the above paragraph, it is clear that technology cannot produce itself. Even when we cover the topic of technology in a history class for example, we learn about the creation, who created, and what it does. As an illustration, think of a telephone. The fact that the tested children grouped the actions in accordance with the grammatical structure of their respective language is evidence for linguistic relativity, as both groups of children construe(d) the relations between objects in the world on the basis of their language specific categories, and not on the basis of some universal, conceptual categories (Dirven and Verspoor 1998:140 141). This suggests that the children from the two linguistic communities will partly see the world in a different way, being inclined to categorise the things they see in contrasting fashions. Certain features are deemed important enough to warrant a category, and different languages prioritise different qualities. Throughout her discussion, Hobson engages and connects with her audience through her personal stories, facial expressions, tone of voice, and passion about diversity. Hobson sees her audience as individuals who are struggling to understand the diversity issues that surround race, gender, and religion. She assumes that her audience has little awareness of the institutionalized injustices minorities face everyday. With that being said, she does not use her discussion to ridicule or judge them for not understanding the real problems involving diversity, instead she focuses on opening their eyes to begin to understand the obstacles our society needs to overcome in order to start celebrating diversity. The purpose of this paper is to explain what exactly transformational leadership is, and how it can be used by nurse leaders within a health care setting to inspire positive change within the working environment to improve patient quality of patient care and improve job performance. Introduction As we know the healthcare system is constantly changing, therefore requiring effective leadership among nurses. With that said leadership that promotes positive change is necessary in a health care setting. Transformational leadership was developed by leadership expert James MacGregor Burns in the late 1970 s. The Importance Of Referent Power In Music The power to influence people to do something depends on the knowledge I have concerning the thing and this type of power is called expert power (Hughes, Ginnett, Curphy, 2015). For example, as the choir director of my church back in Ghana, I have a lot of influence on the choir members as individuals and the choir as a whole because of my knowledge and experience in music. The knowledge and experience I have in music wields me more power even over anyone I meet for the first time doing music. As a result, I influence the songs we sing at church, the commitment level of the members and decision making processes towards the choir s development. Referent power is the power that people have over followers because of the relationship between them (Hughes, et al, 2015). I have a low level in referent power at the beginning of my relationship with people around me and even at work because of my personality. I am an introvert and it takes a long time for me to get attached to people around me. For example, when I was working with one of the universities back in Ghana as the administrative assistant to the liaison officer of the university, it took about three months for me to get closer to the secretary. Such agitation could possibly induce cavitation, local thermal effects and/or interfacial effects involving rapid transportation of either aggregated or adsorbed species from the interface into solution. Bolder et al. in their study on whey protein have speculated that stirring may also be breaking the immature fibrils leading to production of more active fibrils. This hero, who goes by Odysseus, went through very tough times before he even saw a glimpse of happiness after twenty long years. This hero s journey happened over a thousand years ago in the Ancient Greece. Odysseus and his men sailed across the seas to fight in the Trojan War but, because of his men s stupidity, took him longer to get home then he was planning. In this story, there are many archetypes and the the three I will be talking ... The monster knows none but savage ways and a quote to help my statement is A prodigious man slept in this cave alones, and took his flocks to graze afield remote from all companions knowing none but savage ways a brute so huge (580)Homer. The monster archetype can be anything that you fear. The monster can also be anything that is a bad temptation. A quote from the story to help my thesis is the sirens who lure sailors to their destruction;the wandering rocks, sea rocks that even destroy seabirds at flight (580)Homer. The sirens can stand for temptation and temptation is not always good. Sometimes, monsters can come when you have two decisions and neither one is a good choice but you have to choose and this is an example of my statement The perils of the sea monster Scylia and nearby, the whirlpool charybdis (580)Homer. Both decision can be bad but you still have to choose and it will have consequences. I know a similar situation is with popularity, you do the wrong things to be popular and get in trouble for it or not do it and be left out. Now do think this was so easy for Odysseus? He had to have a damsel in distress to save to become the hero, or should I say, damsels in distress. The damsel in distress archetype is an extra complication added into the story. Odysseus men got themselves into some serious trouble even though Odysseus warned them. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 32. U.s. Health Care System The U.S. health care system faces challenges and it is urgent that the American people become aware of these challenges. There are approximately 46 million Americans who are uninsured, and many insured Americans who face rapid increases in premiums have to pay out of pocket costs. As Congress and the Obama administration consider ways to invest new funds to reduce the number of Americans without insurance coverage, people must address shortfalls in the quality and efficiency of care that lead to higher costs and to poor health outcomes. If something is not done soon, there will be many more who will not have health care coverage that is affordable or they will be without coverage altogether. There is evidence that Americans often do not get the care they need. This is alarming because the United States spends more money per person on health care than any other nation in the world. Health care in the United State is not used as effectively as it should be used; this results in higher spending on complex and chronic diseases. Patients who suffer from hypertension, heart disease, and diabetes often do not receive the health care and effective treatments such as drug therapies or self management services to help them more effectively manage their conditions. People with these diseases need more than medicine; they need the treatment and health education to help them know and understand their disease and be able to live a more healthy lifestyle. This is true for insured, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 33. A Brief Note On Stones River National Battlefield Stones River National Battlefield Stones River Battlefield was an obvious choice for this assignment. I live and study in Murfreesboro, Tennessee. I know that there is a lot of history in the area, but it is not often that we encounter this history on a daily basis. It is important to know about the history because it helps us to understand the present and the culture of any area. I found that this battlefield was actually very important to the events of the Civil War, therefore, I knew that this would be a great place for me to visit for this assignment. There really is not that much literature readily available about the Battle of Stones River or the Battlefield. Therefore, taking the battlefield in in person becomes even more critical. It is amazing to see that the battlefield has been preserved as well as it has been especially given the rapid industrialization that has occurred in the city where it is located. I was able to locate a publication printed by the National Parks Service that explains how the battlefield changed in the early 1990s. From this publication, I found some startling information. The battlefield is located near a part of Murfreesboro that is rapidly expanding and has been for some time. Not surprisingly, many of the original structures have been completely removed to make way for housing divisions and shopping strip malls. During the Civil War, there was a farmhouse located near the battlefield. The Confederate soldiers had to pass the house and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

He tells Maude that he enjoyed being dead when people thought him dead after a chemistry explosion as his school as well as saying that if he had to be a flower he would be a daisy because they are the most common. Fda Approval Process Of Drugs Essay Joston Toney Nicole Thompson English 2010 Online 03 December 2016 The FDAApproval Process of Drugs When I was a kid, I always wondered why it took so long for an ill person to become well again. I always thought that if the ill person went to the doctor they would be back to normal the next day, but that s not the case. For some people it took several days, weeks, months, and even years to conquer an illness but as a child I never could understand that. I don t know how many times I ve asked my mom or dad how come the doctors don t get together and make a miracle drug that could heal anything and everything. It wasn t until the age of 15 when my grandmother was diagnosed with breast cancer that I understood why it took so long for others to heal and the process that they had to endure in order to be healthy again. Shortly after my grandmother s diagnosis, I started looking into what it would take to get a drug that would cure cancer through the approval process on the shelf to save some many others just like my grandmother. But I kept running into a dead end. Everything seemed to keep pointing towards chemotherapy and radiation. Although I wanted something to heal my grandmother fast, chemotherapy and radiation was the only solution if I had wish to see her watch me graduate high school. I went to almost every appointment with her to watch how it helped strengthen but also watch as it drained her energy. A month of chemotherapy and a few weeks of radiation and my ... • 36. Levi Jordan Plantation Essay The Plantation The Levi Jordan Plantation was established in 1848 and was abandoned in 1888, probably because of mistreatment by Levi Jordan. Some artifacts that were found on the plantation included coins, rings, bone saw frame, and a slave tag. Some caches were found, and in them were shells, animal bones, wine bottles, copper, cast iron pans, grapes, and tobacco pipes. Pots were also found next to the hearth, in what is thought to be the Blacksmith s Cabin. The heath was probably used to bake clay and for warmth;it was the center of activity in the cabin. In the blacksmith s cabin, bullet molds, metal tools, arrowheads, and some toys were found, leading people to believe that there were children there. The arrowheads were probably not used for hunting because they had guns, and it s much harder to hunt with a bow than guns. It is thought that they might have been used to make the bullets the right shape, as they were found next to the bullets. Some animal remains found on the plantation led people to believe that the guns were not just used for war, but also for hunting. Another type of thing that was found near the Levi ... Then the clay is fired, to dry it after it has been shaped (most of the time by hand, but in modern times on a pottery wheel). The guns, even though they are emptied, reflect the symbol of danger the undocumented immigrant represents and the need for protection of the nation. The only way this fetishization happens is the repeated circulation of the emotions around which the guns represent. Ahmed explains, affect does not reside positively in the sign or commodity, but is produced only as an effect of its circulation. Here Ahmed is further emphasizing the power that emotions and affects hold: the creation symbols and inciting meaning into mere objects like the prop of the gun for the ...
