Kober Khadr Case Study
On July 27, 2002 a fifteen year old Canadian citizen Omar Khadr was captured by US forces in
Afghanistan. Khadr was captured for the murder of unarmed medic Christopher Speer. The US had
held Khadr for a period of ten years (from 2002 2012). During this time, Canada did not fulfill its
obligation to protect Omar Khadr and his rights. Canada failed to protect Khadr and his rights during
three instances: Firstly, during the rough interrogation that involved various types of torture Canada
did not speak up for Khadr nor did they fight for his rights. Secondly, Canada did not request for the
right of Extradition when Khadr was captured, instead letting the US hold him for ten years. Lastly,
Canada assisted the unfair prosecution of Khadr while ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When terrorists from other countries such as Britain and Australia were captured the countries put
pressure on the US to release extradite the prisoners back to their home countries. Canada had not
asked nor demanded for this, it seems as though Canada was supporting the US s treatment of Khadr.
Canada had to take back Khadr once it was publicized that he was being tortured almost every day. In
addition to this, Prime Minister Stephen Harper had confidence that the US military would try Khadr
in a fair manner, but obviously he was wrong as Khadr was forced to sign an unfair plea that would
basically force him into Canada. Dennis Edney Khadr s former lawyer states He has fought for close
to eight years to get a pair of protective glasses to preserve the amount of sight remaining in Omar s
one eye with vision. He received them in November of last year. That is the extent of the help Omar
has received from the Canadian government, they can t even get him a pair of glasses. (Edney 5).
Khadr was going blind in Guantanamo and requested a pair of glasses for eight years. Canada did not
comply and didn t even speak to Guantanamo about getting Khadr glasses; instead, they let the US
treat the Canadian citizen very harshly and not even provide him with a pair of glasses. Canada did not
care about Khadr instead they just let the US deal with him unfairly. Canada should have been more
involved in the treatment of Khadr and should not have supported the US while they were violating
Khadr. Unlike the other countries such Britain and Australia Canada did not pressure the US to
extradite Khadr. In addition to this, they stood by the US s strong torture methods due to the fact that
Canada did not speak up when Khadr was sent to Guantanamo, even though Guantanamo was famous
for torturing its prisoners.

The Psychological Phenomenon Of The Bystander Effect
Paragraph 1 (introduction and thesis) Thesis not included From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia This
article is about the psychological phenomenon. For the bystander effect in radiobiology, see Bystander
effect (radiobiology). The bystander effect, or bystander apathy, is a social psychological phenomenon
that refers to cases in which individuals do not offer any means of help to a victim when other people
are present. The probability of help is inversely related to the number of bystanders. In other words,
the greater the number of bystanders, the less likely it is that any one of them will help. No thesis

(narrative of Catherine Genovese s attack) On Friday 13 March in 1964, 28 year old Catherine
Genovese was arriving home in her built up neighborhood from a late night shift as a bar manager in
Queens, New York. She was suddenly attacked with a knife by a man named Winston Moseley. She
screamed aloud Oh my God, I ve been stabbed! Please help me! We know what she screamed because
people heard her. People who didn t lift a finger to help. People who didn t want to get involved , who
didn t call the police. Moseley saw lights come on in the apartments nearby. He knew people were
watching. He ran off, leaving Catherine to drag herself into a doorway where she lay bleeding she
could possibly have survived at this point. But her attacker decided to return to

Lies The Iranian Revolutionaries Told You Analysis
Bias is being in favor of something and clearly, against something, it is usually when you have a
preferred side. Not only that, but also, bias can play an important role in influencing you on how you
decide to view the world. Furthermore, When someone or something is biased, they re not always
going to tell you the other side of the story, they will always try to vouch for their side and make it
look as if is facts. Additionally, they will try to make you think that the other side is the worst, and
they will try to attack the other side every chance they get, but this do not always occur. On the other
hand, the person can just be completely leaving the other side of the story in the dark without
necessarily attacking the other side in any ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Essay on Judicial Activism Versus Judicial Restraint
Judicial Activism Vs. Judicial Restraint The debate between Judicial Activism and Judicial Restraint
really grabbed my attention. Judicial Activism and Judicial Restraint are two different ways to
interpret the constitution and its laws. Both interpretations have their own strengths and weaknesses,
which is why it is so hard to come to a final decision of which is acceptable and which is not (in most
cases). While at the debate I didn t realize how many cases have boiled down to these two concepts.
There have been many cases ended up being decided by both interpretations. I believe Judicial
Activism should be removed from the Supreme Court. The Original definition of Judicial Activism is
defined as a philosophy of judicial decision ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Stare Decisis plays a large role in Judicial Restraint. Stare Decisis is sticking to an established ruling
that was handed down by past judges or jurors. A form of judicial restraint is called the political
question doctrine, and it is significant in understanding this interpretation of the law. The political
question doctrine is when a court acknowledges that the constitution is violated but does not decide to
act. There are plenty of examples of Judicial Restraint throughout our history but the one that stands
out the most in my mind is Gore Vs. Bush. In this case the Florida supreme courts methods of
recounting the presidential ballots was considered and ruled as having violated the Equal Protection
Laws which is under the fourteenth amendment in a presidential election. Everyone seems to know
that something wrong was done, but no one really understands what happened. Before this debate I
didn t realize that this was an example of Judicial Restraint. And this is why I caint agree with either
interpretations of the law. Both of these interpretations are ways to go around the laws already set in
stone. I believe that there should be some type of law created to protect the constitution. I do not agree
with either interpretations and I believe that they are both wrong. These are examples of flaws in the
constitution that should be dealt with. As I listened to this debate I realized and understood more and

Ancient Greeks pursued an education in order to be better citizens and because they valued the mind
and thinking. In an article in Change, Arthur Levine and Jeanette Cureton quote John Henry Cardinal
Newman who wrote The Idea of a University in the mid 1800 s. His ideal was a residential community
of students and teachers devoted to the intellect. To him a college was an alma mater, knowing her
children one by one, not a foundry, or a mint, or a treadmill. To Newman, a university was a gathering
place for those who wanted to enrich their lives through learning, not a place where students could be
molded. Is this the case today? The New Jersey City University states that a liberal arts curriculum
will provide students with the kind of knowledge that will help them live a more rewarding life one
that is rich with meaning. Their College of Arts and Sciences contends that it is dedicated to providing
students with an education that will expand their perceptions and give them a firm foundation for
living, working, and decision making. But what is this richness of

The Three Types Of Bodybuilders
Bodybuilders mentalities are so complicated. They start their workout and they want to get to the
shape and the desire that they want very quick and without working hard. Bodybuilders who are using
steroids, are getting big easily, but too many bad side effects causes it to be forbidden by the law, and
those who are using it they buy it from the black market and taking it secretly. Because they will be

Advantages Of Retention Strategies
Gone is the age when people sought permanence in every vital facet of life, be it relationships or jobs.
With the advent of modern era, there has been a tangible shift from securing permanent things to
ascertaining better things. It is a typical human behaviour to have an insatiable hunger for
development and betterment. This penchant can be evidently contemplated in the corporate
employees, since the corporate world is swamped with a surfeit of jobs and there are ample chances
for employees to move from one job to another. In such transient job environment, companies need to
prepare themselves well in advance to efficiently and professionally handle the exit of employees.

The Lynsey Addario photo chosen from her photo story Maternal Mortality, depicts women in Sierra
Leone holding two newly born twins. The newborns, usually considered joys and miracles, are
surrounded by sad, morning, void, grieving and angry expressions. While the scene is filled with
vibrant colors, it is hardly filled with the joy a western audience would expect. Maternal Mortality
tells the story of Mama Seesay her family and friends, as well as all childbearing women in Sierra

This woman s expression is much different than the woman in the center of the image. The woman in
blue looks stuck in thought, worry and grief. She is holding a burden. Her expression is so void of
emotion that you can feel the suffering that lies behind her eyes and are within her thoughts. Her gaze
is aimed up toward the viewer but do not appear to be making contact with the camera. She appears to
look through the viewer or past them, but not into them. She is fascinating, she holds one of the
babies, but with no affection. All the other woman in the photograph add to the grief, anger and
sorrowfulness felt in the image. Their gorgeous and colorful dress drowned out by the apparent
distress of the expressions on their sun lite faces. The use of color in Addario s image is striking, the
color in the women s dress is colorful. Many of the women are adorning colorful headscarves in
addition to their vibrant colored dresses. The use of lighting and color truly make the photograph eye
catching but does not take away to the suffering seen through the expressions and body language of
the women. In the photograph, the women are standing underneath what appears to be a covered
walkway. Light pours onto the women from both the right and left side of the photograph and
successfully lights up the expressions of each and every woman. This is why the colors do not tone

Differences Between Federalist And Democratic Republicans
Political philosophies amongst Federalist and Democratic Republicans have been much conflicted
throughout the years. The Federalist who was led by Alexander Hamilton were seeking to increase the
power of the central government then there was the Republicans who were led by Thomas Jefferson
whom were seeking to decrease the power of the central government. The Federalists advocated the
importance of a strong central government to protect the republic from the imprudence of democracy
leading the country forward, while the Democratic Republicans promoted increasing the common man

About 20 to 30 years prior they won their independence from Britain but the feeling of failure still
stood amongst the people. The Federalist Party were at large to destroy the threat of failure by
fortifying the United States central government. In Hamilton s mind, the outcome in strengthening the
central government would allow freedom of speech and self freedom thus uniting American citizens.
Hamilton had witnessed firsthand the political and economic confusion caused by states conflicting
interests and corrupt taxation policies under the Articles of Confederation. He saw that the Federalists
must take control of the political and economic decision making for the Union to still stand a chance
to survive. In order for the Federalist government to take control of conflicts before getting worse
jeopardizing the United states future they adopted the philosophy of loose construction which allowed
a flexible interpretation of the United States Constitution that granted the Federal government implied
powers , powers that were not specifically granted to them by the Constitution. Hamilton believed that
allowing the Federal government such freedoms was important to the well being of the country
because this allowed the government to act in whatever manner would best serve the country s
interests, even if the actions stretched the limits of power set in the Constitution or even at times
violated. Even though the Democratic Republicans opposed, Alexander Hamilton asked congress to
charter the Bank of the United States which would be jointly owned by private stock holders and the
National government. The Bank stored excess printed paper money that was valuable. This excess
money allowed cash to circulate to prompt American businesses by making loans to merchants,
handling government funds, and issuing bills of credit. The National Bank was largely beneficial to
the American people, and yet it was

The Odyssey Conniving Calypso
Conniving Calypso
I had lived on my luxurious island for many years. My island is filled with life and colorful blossoms.
With all the plants and beauty, the only people on my island are young women. Everyday, my

no person ever washing upon our shore. All we longed was a new friend, or man to get lost at sea and
wash up on our island for us to care for and love.
When a stranger showed up on my island after swimming in the ocean, I kindly took him in. No one
ever visits my wondrous island, and no one ever leaves my island. He told me of how his men killed
Helios forbidden cattle and Zeus destroyed his ship as a punishment for this forbidden act. He told me
that he had been swimming for days, his ship destroyed and all his loyal men killed. I began to care

Figurative Blindness In Oedipus The King
Although blindness and sight seem diametrically opposed, they are more similar to each other than it
would seem. In Sophocles Oedipus Rex, the relationship between figurative blindness and literal
blindness is portrayed. In the play, figurative blindness is what Oedipus has as he does not understand
his parentage and the prophecy of his doom. Literal blindness is what Teiresias has suffered with his
whole life. Sophocles proves in the play that figurative blindness is far more harmful than literal
blindness due to the unwarranted sense of control that sight gives him. Oedipus, even though he can
see with his own eyes, is completely clueless to what is happening around him in Thebes. First of all,
he thinks his parents are Polybus and Merope of Corinth, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This illustrates the pattern of blindness that is prevalent throughout Greek plays. Literal vision is
clearly seen as not helpful unless you can actually see what is going on. Oedipus s figurative sight
comes from his understanding of his true parentage. And for him, receiving true sight necessitates
shaking off the distractions of literal vision. The second important problem with Oedipus s sight is that
it gives him a sense of control and a strong feeling of arrogance. First of all, Oedipus questions the
blind prophet Teiresias about why the plague is devastating Thebes. Oedipus forensically questions
Teiresias like he understands what is happening, when that is clearly inaccurate and in fact very ironic.
Oedipus says very ironically to Teiresias, You sightless, witless, senseless, mad old man (Perrine
1238). In reality, it is Oedipus who lacks sight and sense and Teiresias who possesses these in
abundance. Oedipus talks in the language of rational inquiry, of the courts and of those new sciences
that were already displacing the theologically based sciences that were already

Analysis Of A Quick Nap
and the outside world begin? ; Where and when do you most enjoy the quality of light in your home ;
Have you ever been in transit between two homes? These questions get viewers thinking about
connections to their own experiences, and also serve as a summary of the label itself. One of the art
pieces that were being focused on was Walter Henry Williams oil on canvas painting, A Quick Nap .
His piece titled A Quick Nap stood out to me along my browse throughout the museum. Its interesting
color scheme grabbed me; I believed there was a tale to the story.
The lightly glossed, oil painted canvas depicts a little girl dozing by the red railing of a fire escape
above the city streets. The little girl is seen to be resting her head on her right hand, napping. Walter
Williams contrasts the curves of the girl s soft pink dress with the hard grid of the ironwork and
straight lines of the window that reflects similar fire escapes across the street. A rooftop water tower is
outlined against the haze of the evening sky, and a skylight punctures the roof below.
The fire escape became more than an emergency exit in a burning building. It is used for everything
from outdoor to dining to sleeping and gardening, opening up the home to the surrounding city like a
porch in the sky or private get away .
I gazed at the little girl in the foreground; the reflecting glass in the mid ground, and the evening sky
in the background. The painting is sized at about 24 inches by 30 inches.
While observing this painting, several questions came to mind, like a bulb became lit. Questions about
the sky, the dress, the sun, the reflection in the door, and the rooftop water tank were formed in my
mind. I even wondered where Williams was while observing.
The pink dress being worn by the little girl appears to have the softest color, it is light cool and
comfortable, which is most compelling and contrasting being the only curves in the frame.
The sun is low in the skyline showing the time of day, possibly early evening and at the same time sets
the tone for the artwork. I can imagine an evening with a full household of at least 5 including the
little girl. She has retreated to her place of tranquil and serenity.

My Role As An Educator
Throughout this term, we have learned various models of teaching such as: Reggio Emilia,
Montessori, Waldorf, Forest, HighScope and Head Start. My role as an educator is to implement a
variety of learning strategies taught to me. As I learned about each models of teaching, I still hold my
bias towards the Reggio Emilia Approach, but I also like some aspect of the HighScope curriculum. In
my personal philosophy, I will talk about what I believe to be an image of a child and role of an
educator. For instance, I believe that every child is unique in their own individual way. They are
viewed as being naturally curious about the environment around them, are full of knowledge,
creativity and have potential that they want connect to the world around them by exploring freely.
Children learn best through playing and exploring the environment around them freely. There is
nothing better that to get acquainted with nature and exploring real life experiences. As an educator,
we have to recognize the child as a whole and base our curriculum according to their needs. For
example, setting up a rich environment where the child can explore, learn, and grown at his or her own
pace of developmental level. Thus, I agree with Reggio Emilia Approach, that children should be
given rights and opportunities to develop to their full potential. They view the child as beautiful,
powerful, competent, creative, curious, full of potential and ambitious desires that interested in
connecting to the world

Essay about The Faith of Mary Rowlandson
The Faith of Mary Rowlandson In her writing titled A Narrative of the Captivity and Restauration of
Mrs. Mary Rowlandson , Mary lies out for the reader her experience of being held in captivity by
Indians during the King Philip s War. Perhaps one of the most significant aspects of this writing is the
glimpse that the reader gets into Rowlandson s faith and religion. Faith was a major aspect of life in
the Colonial Period. It was of widespread belief that God was to be feared, and that he was the only
way to redemption (Kizer). Mary Rowlandson was no different, but the extreme conditions of her
captivity caused her faith to occasionally waiver. Most of the time throughout her journey in captivity,
she depended on God, and the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
She writes And here I cannot but take notice of the strange providence of God in preserving the
heathen... (Rowlandson 450). At this point Mary cannot seem to help but to contemplate why God is
allowing the Indians to prevail in this war. There was no denying the stark differences between the
victories of the English and the Indians. Consider the fact that the Puritans were Christians of the
strictest variety, and they did not believe that the Indians were blessed with God s grace. It is quite
understandable then that Mary would find it troubling that her people were suffering devastating
effects of this war fought by people who were not even Christians. So she questions whether or not
this is God s work. In the end she concludes that God is not helping the Indians, rather he knows that
the English are not ready for his mercy, and her faith is restored once again (Rowlandson 450). As
Mary s story unravels, she continues to suffer long hours of work, starvation, and separation from her
family. She reads her holy bible and is constantly reminding herself that God is with her and will see
her through these trials. Her spirits are lifted her master agrees to sell Mary to her husband, and her
mistress begins the journey with her, but before long the mistress decides not to go any further and
they turn back. Not long after, she starts to loose hope that she will ever be reunited with her family.
She becomes discouraged, and her spirit

Lena Dunham Women
In today s society, turning off has become nearly an impossible task. As beneficial as modern
technological advancements are, they have made our world fast paced and constantly interconnected.
Emails, Snapchats and tweets, just to name a few, are sent twenty four seven, making it a challenge for
people to shut out the world around them and take some time for themselves. Moreover, these
advancements contribute to society s push to say yes constantly; yes to opting to do more work, and
yes to responding to notifications immediately. Celebrity Lena Dunham, however, is protesting this
aspect of society. She has decided to make use of the word no more often in 2016, and encourages
women in the working world to do the same. Dunham explains that the cycle of working,
compromising relationships with others and continuing to work more has caused her to suffer greatly.
She feels that the need to always be in tune with the world pushes and pushes people until they,
essentially, crack. In hopes of resolving this, she is urging women to take their own happiness more
into account. Therefore, along with the use of the word no, Dunham raises the point that ... Show more

Herzberg Two Factor Theory
1. Job satisfaction:
Job satisfaction can be explained as a feeling of pleasure that one feels with his work, it is fulfillment
of one s needs and desires from his or her work and the environment of work. There are several
theories from past, which tries to explain the job satisfaction one of these theories is the Herzberg s
two factor theory. According to his theory, there are two basic types of work motivators one is the
intrinsic motivator and the other is the extrinsic motivator.
Intrinsic satisfaction is linked with the actual task of the job that is whether the person likes or enjoys
what he or she is actually doing. Does the task make him or her feel been utilized of do they feel the
work they do is helping them grow. The extrinsic motivation is more about the non job factors such as

Job dissatisfaction among nurses was highest in the United States (41%) followed by Scotland (38%),

more than one fifth in the United States planned on leaving their job within 12 months of data

Why is it important to study a nurse s job satisfaction?
An increase in the studies related to the job satisfaction of nurses has been witnessed (PIETERSEN,
2005) there are several reasons for this such as:
1. Several studies had shown a decrease in the job satisfaction of nurses in particular.
2. The decrease in the number of nurses worldwide, this decrease in the number of nurses is because
of several factors such as work environment, pressure of the work

How new members of the SLT are perceived by employees is vitally important in order to maintain
engagement of staff and commitment to organisational goals.
A further internal driver of change is a need to decrease costs and increase consistency and efficiency,
which is the aim of the centralisation of some support functions from E.ON UK to Berlin where E.ON
headquarters are based. This has resulted in a number of redundancies and the re education of hiring
managers across the UK business to understand the changes.
Approaches to change
A useful model when looking at different approaches to change is Tannenbaum and Schmidt s (1958,
cited in Leatherbarrow et al, 2010, p414) Continuum of Leadership. This model explains a scale of
various levels of delegated freedom and the subsequent effect on the employees. It details telling
where the manager decides and announces the decision, selling where the manager decides and then
sells the decision to the group, consulting where the manager presents the problem and asks for
suggestions before making a decision, and finally joining where staff are involved in all stages of the
decision making process. The model argues that joining is the key to implementing change
successfully as when employees are part of the change they are more likely to engage with it in a
positive way. At E.ON the change

There are of course times where people do take things too far and mean them in the worst of ways.
Although, that is not what this is about. This is about the destruction of free speech to the extent of

Origins of the N-Word Essay
The words Negro, nigger, and nigga have always been a sensitive topic, yet it is a topic that needs to

while the others are used to define a people. It s very clear to many the negative connotation these
words carry, but where did these words come from? Furthermore, is there a difference between the
word nigger and nigga; and why is it that African Americans now use the word nigga to degrade each

The Europeans no longer used the word to describe a color, but used it to describe a people. No matter
what the origin, this word was used as a weapon to destroy and kill the mind and spirit of a race, and
has become the self fulfilling prophecy for many African Americans today. So many people have
forgotten or either do not realize the destruction behind this racial slur; that it has simply become
another by word with a forgotten history. Ignorance is the state of being uneducated, unaware, or
uniformed. There is an old saying, What you don t know, won t hurt you, but I contend that what you
don t know can stifle you from moving ahead. There are so many young African Americans walking
in ignorance to the history of their race. For example, when I was growing up, my attentive parents
often took opportunities to teach me about and encouraged me not to sit on the back of a public
transportation bus. Their ideology came from the idea that there were many who fought for, were
imprisoned, and even died for my right to sit anywhere on a public bus. However, I consistently

Closed Loop System

Module 6 DQ2: When viewing a team as a closed loop system, each member becomes dependent on
the next. How does this dependency influence the dynamics of a team, specifically from a systems
perspective?
One of the disadvantages of working within a closed loop system is that when a part of the system is
not performing, it affects the dynamics of the entire teams. For instance, a thermostat works with a
furnace to control room temperature is a perfect example of a closed loop system (Stead, Gregg, Jirjis,

Comparing The Medieval Warm Period And The Little Ice Age
Medieval Warm Period and The Little Ice Age
The Medieval Warm Period and The Little Ice Age share a few common denominators. They were
both caused partly by the ocean currents changing, and both of these events occurred in the northern
hemisphere. The Little Ice Age was considered to be harsh , having the winters last for long a period
of times, and the summers cool and wet, whereas the Medieval Warm Period was considered to be a
more difficult time to describe, considering that there has not been much research done about it.
The Medieval Warm Period took place during 800 AD to 1400 AD. Researchers speculate that the
Medieval Warm Period had a higher than average solar radiation and less volcanic activity during that
time period. This same evidence is also suggesting that changes in ocean circulation patterns caused a
change in temperature (cooler to warmer) in the ocean water. This brought warmer currents into the
North Atlantic (Climate Science Glossary).
In this current time period, our planetary temperatures have been far warmer than any record has
shown in the past two thousand years. However, evidence also suggests that some places were very
much cooler than today including the tropical pacific. When the warm places are averaged out with

The Internal Revenue Service ( Irs )
The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) is part of the Department of the United States Treasury. It is one
of the most efficient tax administrators in the world. During fiscal year 2012, the IRS $2.5 trillion in
revenue and processed 237 million tax returns. For every $100 it collected in fiscal year 2012, the IRS
spent a mere 48 cents. The mission of the IRS is to provide U.S. taxpayers a top quality service by
helping them pay their taxes, enforce the laws regarding taxes, and assist taxpayers with
understanding their taxes. The IRS values integrity and fairness for all taxpayers. In the U.S.,
Congress passes tax laws and taxpayers are required to comply. The taxpayer s role is to understand
his/her tax obligations and meet them. The IRS role is to help taxpayers be compliant and pursue those
who do not pay their fair share.
The Internal Revenue Code, section 7801, organizes the IRS to carry out the responsibilities of the

and has the power to create the agency (IRS) to enforce those laws. In 1862, President Lincoln and
Congress created an income tax to pay war expenses and the position of commissioner of Internal

The Revolution Will Not Be Televised Critical Analysis Essay
The Revolution Will Not Be Televised is a poem and song by Gil Scott Heron. Scott Heron first
recorded it for his 1970 album Small Talk at 125th and Lenox, on which he recited the lyrics,
accompanied by congas and bongo drums. The message of the song is the elusive nature of political
culture in Nixons America and the inability of the mainstream to capture the real heart of the people.
Heron uses cultural refrences from the 1970s to express his angerin the 1970s. What he is trying relay

Homelessness is the condition which is a social category of people who are without a regular house

Although this act was a good idea, it was a deficient response to homelessness. Reason being the main
help by many welfare departments only applied to mothers and children. This meant that families
would most likely be split, with temporary accommodation being excluded for homeless fathers, and
single homeless people were rarely given any assistance (Robson and Poustie, 1996).
After the TV drama Cathy Come Home (1966) was released, pressure mounted for central government
intervention on homelessness and this bought along the establishment of Shelter around the same time,
which was a campaigning group for the homeless. It was recommended that primary responsibility for
the homeless should be transferred from local authority social services to housing departments, by a
number of official committees in the late 1960s and early 1970s(Robson and Poustie, 1996). However,
single individuals were not yet the focus, where on the other hand most of the priority was on families
with dependant children (Watson with Austerberry, 1986).
During the 1970 s, the 1977 Housing (Homeless Persons) Act was broad along. The main aims of this
were to clear up and strengthen local authority, meaning their duties towards the homeless in terms of
housing, and to effectively transfer all these responsibilities from local authority social services to
housing departments. Local authorities were now only obliged to give long term

Texas Voter Turnout Analysis
Voter Turnout is a Turn Off Texas ranks as a relatively poor state, which directly relates to the trouble
with voter turnout. The history of voting started primarily in 1787 with the development and
implementation of the suffrage or right to vote (Newell et al. 139). This also led to states developing
qualifications for who could vote which initiated low voter turnout. Texas experiences an unduly low
voter turnout due to the history of prior restrictions in minorities.

This is not to hinder our democracy, but rather develop it. By leaving the decisions to more house and

also help the voter turnout to increase. There are so many elections going on within the voter s own
state that they simply take the right to vote as a common thing instead of a luxury. In many countries

Online Dating Analysis
Another aspect that social media drives is that of the human condition; one interesting phenomena that
has developed has been online dating. Although one would hope that people are still meeting and
developing relationships the old fashioned way that being meeting face to face, online dating now
represents (Beck 2013). In fact, in 2013, 23% of all people that meet online will get married (1). The
author establishes that the number is expected to continue to grow as more people spend time online
rather than in a live social setting. It could be argued that in the absence of people meeting in settings
conducive to intermingling, those who were shy or seeking a specific type of person would use a
dating service. To a certain extent, there is direct connectivity to having faith in a third party to match
people. Although afraid to engage the social network as a way of meeting a partner because of the fear
of the unknown, in reality it could be suggested that meeting someone through a dating service also
did not present that much more security (1).

Many researchers argue that social media provides a cloak by which people can hide behind. In other
instances, the Internet has established a place for those who fear interacting in the real world. They
can now safely communicate and build relationships. The topic of cloaking is interesting because prior
to the internet, people had to venture out into the world and had to communicate live with people, the
process developed social skills that are threatening to be lost as social networking continues to grow.
At the forefront is the notion that social media as well as personal electronics is killing communication
(Tardanico 2012). The author reflecting on an incident that occurred between a friend and her daughter

Mama Day By Gloria Naylor Essay
Gloria Naylor gave non black audiences an insight of black women using different perspectives. As a
child Gloria read white American Literature, which later lead her to be a writer and publish great
insight perspective writings.(encyclopedia) As Gloria got older, she was an advanced student in high
school, she even graduated with honors.(encyclopedia) Later, while in college she faced an obstacle of
finding her blackness after the assassination of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.(encyclopedia).She then left
to be a teacher for Jehovah Witness as a way to search for her purpose.(encyclopedia) Her whole
childhood geared her towards being an author, and to write one of her most popular books The Women
of Brewster Place . The Women of Brewster Place was an interesting and stereotype changing book.
She thought that white American Literature were underrepresenting black women, so she decided to
write. Gloria s experiences helped her with creating the characters that have a different background ,
lifestyle , struggles, ages ,and situations. She wanted to break the stereotype and to give non colored
people a clean mindset of a colored women.(encyclopedia) It shows that she really cares about the ...

She skillfully explored her characters backstory in depth. In Mama Day Gloria created a tone where
William Shakespeare s The Tempest meets black folklore.(edit. Of ency. brit.) Naylor s next book was
Linden Hills which theme is over the destroying of materialism in black neighborhoods.(edit. Of ency.
brit.) And, the tone of suffering goes with her writing Bailey s Cafe . (edit. Of ency. brit.) Also, my
author went back to the same vibe as her first book for her last book, The Men of Brewster Place
(biography). I expect the book to be the same concept as The Women of Brewster Place but from a
different perspective, the bad guy switches and shows the reader that they are the

Escape In Romantic Poetry
Repression and the Desire to Escape in Romantic Poetry
Romantic poetry encompasses many things, involving, but not limited to; nature, the sublime, and
strong senses of emotion. Many of the romantic poets wrote about nature, and how nature strongly
relates to that sense of emotion. Of course when you lack emotion, or you are struck with many
negative emotions, romantic poetry shows that nature itself is the remedy that you may require. Not
only does romantic poetry show that nature can cure, but it shows that an escape to nature is required
in order to understand it, and receive the cure that you seek. It shows that you must abandon your past
struggles, and learn to embrace nature. This begs the question; how does romantic poetry attempt to
show that nature is the cure to the issues that you currently face? Many of the romantic poets attempt
to show that through an escape to nature, you are able to become enlightened. William Wordsworth s
The Ruined Cottage exhibits a woman (Margaret) who is surrounded by romantics, which is used to
contrast that which are her struggles, and her lack of romanticism. This essay will look at the desire to
escape the struggles that the characters are facing through a romantic escape to nature. It will display
how Wordsworth s The Ruined Cottage conveys a message of escapism to nature as a cure to hardship
through a character that fails to escape, as well as how John Keats Ode to a Nightingale shows a
character who succeeds with

My Proposal to Revitalize the Block of Abandoned Houses at...
My proposal to revitalize the block of abandoned houses at 8 20 Oakmount Road, 1834 1844 Bloor
Street West, and 3 17 Pacific Avenue, is to create an eco space that has the feel of a space that is eco
friendly and where people can come buy fresh produce, learn about eco friendliness, admire the plants
at the green house and eco dome, or sit next to the fountain and admire the beauty.
This space could do so much for the community, instead of having a block of houses that benefit no
one. Here is a little history of the area of the houses. I was unable to find physical proof or any source
to back this statement up but, according to Mrs. Zubkewych, her 102 year old neighbor that passed
away some years ago named Ms. Grace Irwin was a historian for the Bloor West Village. Ms. Irwin
wrote a book about the Bloor West Village that can be found in the archives section of the Annette
Public Library. According to Mrs. Zubkewych Ms. Irwin told her that the block of houses at 8 20
Oakmount road, 1834 1844 Bloor street west, 3 17 Pacific avenue were built over 100 years ago, she
said before they were houses the whole block used to be owned be a doctor who made it into farm
land. So therefore we know the soil is non toxic. The reason the houses were recently torn down is
because the owner was trying to get the permits to build but was unable to so he sold the land to a
development company. This ties into science because we now know that the soil is not toxic or acidic
(since plants can t

Comparing Lanval And Sir Gawain And The Green Knight
Female Representation in Lanval and Sir Gawain and the Green Knight
During a high point in medieval chivalric romance, both Marie de France s Lanval and the anonymous
Sir Gawain and the Green Knight tell fanciful tales of knighthood, chivalry, and spiritual and temporal
(courtly) love. Both Lanval and Sir Gawain and the Green Knight portray their female characters as
possessing considerable power and influence, within the events in the story and in the structure of the
plot. Indeed, the female characters in both works function as the catalysts of the events within the
stories, and also as instruments for each author s conveyed meaning. While Lanval presents its female
characters in an unorthodox reversal of gender roles, Sir Gawain and the Green Knight employs the
female characters as moral and spiritual trials for the hero, Sir Gawain. I will examine how the fairy
princess and Queen Gwenevere in Marie de France s Lanval present a reversal of gender roles as was
traditionally understood; she presents femininity as powerful, inspiring, and morally dynamic (for a
woman can be ideal, or she can be corrupt). I will compare this to the representation of Lady Bertilak
and Morgan le Fay in Sir Gawain and the Green Knight, in which they are used to convey a Biblical
warning for an ecclesiastical audience; particularly that of moral failure and the temptation of the
flesh. To enrich our understanding of Lanval it is essential to keep in mind the work s authorship and

Ockham s Razor
There are different ways we come to know the stuff in this world. We generally prefer theories that are
simple. The simpler the theory, the less entities involved; therefore, the fewer assumptions we have to
make. Quine supports the principle Ockham s Razor in acceptance of an ontology. Ockham s Razor is
a principle that is preferred when trying to determine our ontological beliefs. The first step of Quine s
method suggests that we use simple theories. As a naturalist, Quine also only takes what scientific
theories give him. This is slightly problematic because that means only science can determine what
exists and seems to deny common sense.
Ontology is the study of what there is and is a theory about the types of entities there are ... Show

That is, he allows for science to be the determiner of what exists and what does not and so only
material stuff exists for him, as that is what science determines to be real. In other words, Quine
makes the goal of ontology, ultimately, taking the best and the simplest science theories and putting
them to use within his method . His method can be criticized because Quine, being a naturalist, denies
a priori knowledge by definition and therefore, rejecting anything abstract such as mathematics.
However, we do take that mathematics and other abstract theories to

Observation Reflection
A few weeks ago our group sat in the Starbucks located on campus for 20 minutes observing people
who sat, stood and walked around. In this time we had four different sets of eyes looking around and
taking notes. The following is a summary of our observations to answer the required questions. A
difficulty we may have encountered if we would have stayed in the same location longer is people
would have noticed. People were extremely busy, but as time went by one girl did notice there was
something odd about our table and began to stare. That would have made it awkward and caused a
distraction of what our goal if more people noticed us. Another difficulty would be our notes would
have been repetitive and it would have been hard focusing. As observers, constantly seeing the same
thing, it would just be too much for us.
During the observation period we conducted as a group, we felt that it would be very easy since we
naturally observe people in our free time. Though through time we felt very creepy and somewhat
stupid just sitting around staring at people and writing notes. Nevertheless, an overall feeling was that
it was interesting sitting. We observed our fellow classmates, Rutgers students and faculty staff who
passed by.
Overall, in the quality and accuracy of our field notes and conclusions, we would be very confident
since we had four different perspectives observing the same location, front, back and sides of the
room. All of us coming up with both similarities in our

Poniente Film Analysis
The film, Poniente clearly demonstrated the issues of race and class within Spain. All throughout the
film, aggression from the local Spanish residents was seen towards the migrant workers. The workers,
many of whom were from Morocco or other parts of Sub Saharan Africa, were underpaid for their
labor, threatened, verbally and physically abused, and thought to be easily replaced by their
employers. Said, for example, nearly bought his own place to live, but the landlord rented it out to
someone else, most likely because of race. All these acts of violence cumulates and results in the final
scene of the film; where the residents riot and attack the workers, thinking they had set fire to the
greenhouse. The film does a good job of representing

Academic Dishonesty At Ashford University
Academic Dishonesty
Educational untruthfulness is a very bad affair at Ashford University institute. It is any performance
which indecorously influences the assessment of a scholar s educational accomplishment or
attainment. A lot of scholars struggle at some point in their academic careers. During the past weeks at
college in the course of my depression I have displayed educational wrongdoing. It contains, but is not
narrow to, imitation, misappropriation, and misrepresentation. Misappropriation frequently goes on a
scholar s record and this can interfere with their aptitude to relocating to a new college or go to
advanced school. Realizing that I have been set on university trial is alarming and unsatisfactory. Not

  • 2. Kober Khadr Case Study On July 27, 2002 a fifteen year old Canadian citizen Omar Khadr was captured by US forces in Afghanistan. Khadr was captured for the murder of unarmed medic Christopher Speer. The US had held Khadr for a period of ten years (from 2002 2012). During this time, Canada did not fulfill its obligation to protect Omar Khadr and his rights. Canada failed to protect Khadr and his rights during three instances: Firstly, during the rough interrogation that involved various types of torture Canada did not speak up for Khadr nor did they fight for his rights. Secondly, Canada did not request for the right of Extradition when Khadr was captured, instead letting the US hold him for ten years. Lastly, Canada assisted the unfair prosecution of Khadr while ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... When terrorists from other countries such as Britain and Australia were captured the countries put pressure on the US to release extradite the prisoners back to their home countries. Canada had not asked nor demanded for this, it seems as though Canada was supporting the US s treatment of Khadr. Canada had to take back Khadr once it was publicized that he was being tortured almost every day. In addition to this, Prime Minister Stephen Harper had confidence that the US military would try Khadr in a fair manner, but obviously he was wrong as Khadr was forced to sign an unfair plea that would basically force him into Canada. Dennis Edney Khadr s former lawyer states He has fought for close to eight years to get a pair of protective glasses to preserve the amount of sight remaining in Omar s one eye with vision. He received them in November of last year. That is the extent of the help Omar has received from the Canadian government, they can t even get him a pair of glasses. (Edney 5). Khadr was going blind in Guantanamo and requested a pair of glasses for eight years. Canada did not comply and didn t even speak to Guantanamo about getting Khadr glasses; instead, they let the US treat the Canadian citizen very harshly and not even provide him with a pair of glasses. Canada did not care about Khadr instead they just let the US deal with him unfairly. Canada should have been more involved in the treatment of Khadr and should not have supported the US while they were violating Khadr. Unlike the other countries such Britain and Australia Canada did not pressure the US to extradite Khadr. In addition to this, they stood by the US s strong torture methods due to the fact that Canada did not speak up when Khadr was sent to Guantanamo, even though Guantanamo was famous for torturing its prisoners. ... The Psychological Phenomenon Of The Bystander Effect Paragraph 1 (introduction and thesis) Thesis not included From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia This article is about the psychological phenomenon. For the bystander effect in radiobiology, see Bystander effect (radiobiology). The bystander effect, or bystander apathy, is a social psychological phenomenon that refers to cases in which individuals do not offer any means of help to a victim when other people are present. The probability of help is inversely related to the number of bystanders. In other words, the greater the number of bystanders, the less likely it is that any one of them will help. She was suddenly attacked with a knife by a man named Winston Moseley. She screamed aloud Oh my God, I ve been stabbed! Please help me! We know what she screamed because people heard her. People who didn t lift a finger to help. People who didn t want to get involved , who didn t call the police. Moseley saw lights come on in the apartments nearby. He knew people were watching. Not only that, but also, bias can play an important role in influencing you on how you decide to view the world. Furthermore, When someone or something is biased, they re not always going to tell you the other side of the story, they will always try to vouch for their side and make it look as if is facts. Additionally, they will try to make you think that the other side is the worst, and they will try to attack the other side every chance they get, but this do not always occur. • 5. Essay on Judicial Activism Versus Judicial Restraint Judicial Activism Vs. Judicial Restraint The debate between Judicial Activism and Judicial Restraint really grabbed my attention. Judicial Activism and Judicial Restraint are two different ways to interpret the constitution and its laws. Both interpretations have their own strengths and weaknesses, which is why it is so hard to come to a final decision of which is acceptable and which is not (in most cases). While at the debate I didn t realize how many cases have boiled down to these two concepts. There have been many cases ended up being decided by both interpretations. I believe Judicial Activism should be removed from the Supreme Court. The Original definition of Judicial Activism is defined as a philosophy of judicial decision ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Stare Decisis plays a large role in Judicial Restraint. Stare Decisis is sticking to an established ruling that was handed down by past judges or jurors. A form of judicial restraint is called the political question doctrine, and it is significant in understanding this interpretation of the law. The political question doctrine is when a court acknowledges that the constitution is violated but does not decide to act. There are plenty of examples of Judicial Restraint throughout our history but the one that stands out the most in my mind is Gore Vs. Bush. In this case the Florida supreme courts methods of recounting the presidential ballots was considered and ruled as having violated the Equal Protection Laws which is under the fourteenth amendment in a presidential election. Everyone seems to know that something wrong was done, but no one really understands what happened. Before this debate I didn t realize that this was an example of Judicial Restraint. And this is why I caint agree with either interpretations of the law. Both of these interpretations are ways to go around the laws already set in stone. I believe that there should be some type of law created to protect the constitution. I do not agree with either interpretations and I believe that they are both wrong. These are examples of flaws in the constitution that should be dealt with. As I listened to this debate I realized and understood more and more ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Federalist who was led by Alexander Hamilton were seeking to increase the power of the central government then there was the Republicans who were led by Thomas Jefferson whom were seeking to decrease the power of the central government. The Federalists advocated the importance of a strong central government to protect the republic from the imprudence of democracy leading the country forward, while the Democratic Republicans promoted increasing the common man s role in government. About 20 to 30 years prior they won their independence from Britain but the feeling of failure still stood amongst the people. The Federalist Party were at large to destroy the threat of failure by fortifying the United States central government. In Hamilton s mind, the outcome in strengthening the central government would allow freedom of speech and self freedom thus uniting American citizens. Hamilton had witnessed firsthand the political and economic confusion caused by states conflicting interests and corrupt taxation policies under the Articles of Confederation. He saw that the Federalists must take control of the political and economic decision making for the Union to still stand a chance to survive. In order for the Federalist government to take control of conflicts before getting worse jeopardizing the United states future they adopted the philosophy of loose construction which allowed a flexible interpretation of the United States Constitution that granted the Federal government implied powers , powers that were not specifically granted to them by the Constitution. Hamilton believed that allowing the Federal government such freedoms was important to the well being of the country because this allowed the government to act in whatever manner would best serve the country s interests, even if the actions stretched the limits of power set in the Constitution or even at times violated. Even though the Democratic Republicans opposed, Alexander Hamilton asked congress to charter the Bank of the United States which would be jointly owned by private stock holders and the National government. In Sophocles Oedipus Rex, the relationship between figurative blindness and literal blindness is portrayed. In the play, figurative blindness is what Oedipus has as he does not understand his parentage and the prophecy of his doom. Literal blindness is what Teiresias has suffered with his whole life. Sophocles proves in the play that figurative blindness is far more harmful than literal blindness due to the unwarranted sense of control that sight gives him. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This illustrates the pattern of blindness that is prevalent throughout Greek plays. Literal vision is clearly seen as not helpful unless you can actually see what is going on. Oedipus s figurative sight comes from his understanding of his true parentage. And for him, receiving true sight necessitates shaking off the distractions of literal vision. The second important problem with Oedipus s sight is that it gives him a sense of control and a strong feeling of arrogance. First of all, Oedipus questions the blind prophet Teiresias about why the plague is devastating Thebes. Oedipus forensically questions Teiresias like he understands what is happening, when that is clearly inaccurate and in fact very ironic. Oedipus says very ironically to Teiresias, You sightless, witless, senseless, mad old man (Perrine 1238). In reality, it is Oedipus who lacks sight and sense and Teiresias who possesses these in abundance. These questions get viewers thinking about connections to their own experiences, and also serve as a summary of the label itself. One of the art pieces that were being focused on was Walter Henry Williams oil on canvas painting, A Quick Nap . His piece titled A Quick Nap stood out to me along my browse throughout the museum. Its interesting color scheme grabbed me; I believed there was a tale to the story. The lightly glossed, oil painted canvas depicts a little girl dozing by the red railing of a fire escape above the city streets. The little girl is seen to be resting her head on her right hand, napping. Walter Williams contrasts the curves of the girl s soft pink dress with the hard grid of the ironwork and straight lines of the window that reflects similar fire escapes across the street. A rooftop water tower is outlined against the haze of the evening sky, and a skylight punctures the roof below. The fire escape became more than an emergency exit in a burning building. It is used for everything from outdoor to dining to sleeping and gardening, opening up the home to the surrounding city like a porch in the sky or private get away . I gazed at the little girl in the foreground; the reflecting glass in the mid ground, and the evening sky in the background. The painting is sized at about 24 inches by 30 inches. While observing this painting, several questions came to mind, like a bulb became lit. Questions about the sky, the dress, the sun, the reflection in the door, and the rooftop water tank were formed in my mind. I even wondered where Williams was while observing. The pink dress being worn by the little girl appears to have the softest color, it is light cool and comfortable, which is most compelling and contrasting being the only curves in the frame. The sun is low in the skyline showing the time of day, possibly early evening and at the same time sets the tone for the artwork. I can imagine an evening with a full household of at least 5 including the little girl. She has retreated to her place of tranquil and serenity. The rooftop water ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

My role as an educator is to implement a variety of learning strategies taught to me. As I learned about each models of teaching, I still hold my bias towards the Reggio Emilia Approach, but I also like some aspect of the HighScope curriculum. In my personal philosophy, I will talk about what I believe to be an image of a child and role of an educator. For instance, I believe that every child is unique in their own individual way. They are viewed as being naturally curious about the environment around them, are full of knowledge, creativity and have potential that they want connect to the world around them by exploring freely. Children learn best through playing and exploring the environment around them freely. There is nothing better that to get acquainted with nature and exploring real life experiences. As an educator, we have to recognize the child as a whole and base our curriculum according to their needs. For example, setting up a rich environment where the child can explore, learn, and grown at his or her own pace of developmental level. Essay about The Faith of Mary Rowlandson The Faith of Mary Rowlandson In her writing titled A Narrative of the Captivity and Restauration of Mrs. Mary Rowlandson , Mary lies out for the reader her experience of being held in captivity by Indians during the King Philip s War. Perhaps one of the most significant aspects of this writing is the glimpse that the reader gets into Rowlandson s faith and religion. Faith was a major aspect of life in the Colonial Period. It was of widespread belief that God was to be feared, and that he was the only way to redemption (Kizer). Mary Rowlandson was no different, but the extreme conditions of her captivity caused her faith to occasionally waiver. She writes And here I cannot but take notice of the strange providence of God in preserving the heathen... (Rowlandson 450). At this point Mary cannot seem to help but to contemplate why God is allowing the Indians to prevail in this war. There was no denying the stark differences between the victories of the English and the Indians. Consider the fact that the Puritans were Christians of the strictest variety, and they did not believe that the Indians were blessed with God s grace. It is quite understandable then that Mary would find it troubling that her people were suffering devastating effects of this war fought by people who were not even Christians. So she questions whether or not this is God s work. In the end she concludes that God is not helping the Indians, rather he knows that the English are not ready for his mercy, and her faith is restored once again (Rowlandson 450). As Mary s story unravels, she continues to suffer long hours of work, starvation, and separation from her family. She reads her holy bible and is constantly reminding herself that God is with her and will see her through these trials. Her spirits are lifted her master agrees to sell Mary to her husband, and her mistress begins the journey with her, but before long the mistress decides not to go any further and they turn back. Not long after, she starts to loose hope that she will ever be reunited with her family. She becomes discouraged, and her spirit ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

They were both caused partly by the ocean currents changing, and both of these events occurred in the northern hemisphere. The Little Ice Age was considered to be harsh , having the winters last for long a period of times, and the summers cool and wet, whereas the Medieval Warm Period was considered to be a more difficult time to describe, considering that there has not been much research done about it. The Medieval Warm Period took place during 800 AD to 1400 AD. Researchers speculate that the Medieval Warm Period had a higher than average solar radiation and less volcanic activity during that time period. This same evidence is also suggesting that changes in ocean circulation patterns caused a change in temperature (cooler to warmer) in the ocean water. This brought warmer currents into the North Atlantic (Climate Science Glossary). By leaving the decisions to more house and senate members, this will still keep intact representative government and democracy in America, but also help the voter turnout to increase. There are so many elections going on within the voter s own state that they simply take the right to vote as a common thing instead of a luxury. In many countries voting is required to obtain a driver s license thus making it more of a priority for citizens to vote. America should consider require voting by all eligible citizens not registered. Registration is a lengthy process which should ultimately not be required which would open the polls up to anyone of the age eighteen, not only to those registered. Subsequently, many people do not vote because of the lack of availability as most elections are held on work days. Therefore, making voting easier by having it held on weekends would be beneficial for working ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 38. Online Dating Analysis Another aspect that social media drives is that of the human condition; one interesting phenomena that has developed has been online dating. Although one would hope that people are still meeting and developing relationships the old fashioned way that being meeting face to face, online dating now represents (Beck 2013). In fact, in 2013, 23% of all people that meet online will get married (1). The author establishes that the number is expected to continue to grow as more people spend time online rather than in a live social setting. It could be argued that in the absence of people meeting in settings conducive to intermingling, those who were shy or seeking a specific type of person would use a dating service. To a certain extent, there is direct connectivity to having faith in a third party to match people. Although afraid to engage the social network as a way of meeting a partner because of the fear of the unknown, in reality it could be suggested that meeting someone through a dating service also did not present that much more security (1). In other instances, the Internet has established a place for those who fear interacting in the real world. They can now safely communicate and build relationships. The topic of cloaking is interesting because prior to the internet, people had to venture out into the world and had to communicate live with people, the process developed social skills that are threatening to be lost as social networking continues to grow. At the forefront is the notion that social media as well as personal electronics is killing communication (Tardanico 2012). • 40. Escape In Romantic Poetry Repression and the Desire to Escape in Romantic Poetry Romantic poetry encompasses many things, involving, but not limited to; nature, the sublime, and strong senses of emotion. Many of the romantic poets wrote about nature, and how nature strongly relates to that sense of emotion. Of course when you lack emotion, or you are struck with many negative emotions, romantic poetry shows that nature itself is the remedy that you may require. Not only does romantic poetry show that nature can cure, but it shows that an escape to nature is required in order to understand it, and receive the cure that you seek. It shows that you must abandon your past struggles, and learn to embrace nature. This begs the question; how does romantic poetry attempt to show that nature is the cure to the issues that you currently face? Many of the romantic poets attempt to show that through an escape to nature, you are able to become enlightened. William Wordsworth s The Ruined Cottage exhibits a woman (Margaret) who is surrounded by romantics, which is used to contrast that which are her struggles, and her lack of romanticism. This essay will look at the desire to escape the struggles that the characters are facing through a romantic escape to nature. It will display how Wordsworth s The Ruined Cottage conveys a message of escapism to nature as a cure to hardship through a character that fails to escape, as well as how John Keats Ode to a Nightingale shows a character who succeeds with ... • 41. My Proposal to Revitalize the Block of Abandoned Houses at... My proposal to revitalize the block of abandoned houses at 8 20 Oakmount Road, 1834 1844 Bloor Street West, and 3 17 Pacific Avenue, is to create an eco space that has the feel of a space that is eco friendly and where people can come buy fresh produce, learn about eco friendliness, admire the plants at the green house and eco dome, or sit next to the fountain and admire the beauty. This space could do so much for the community, instead of having a block of houses that benefit no one. Here is a little history of the area of the houses. I was unable to find physical proof or any source to back this statement up but, according to Mrs. Zubkewych, her 102 year old neighbor that passed away some years ago named Ms. Grace Irwin was a historian for the Bloor West Village. Ms. Irwin wrote a book about the Bloor West Village that can be found in the archives section of the Annette Public Library. According to Mrs. Zubkewych Ms. Irwin told her that the block of houses at 8 20 Oakmount road, 1834 1844 Bloor street west, 3 17 Pacific avenue were built over 100 years ago, she said before they were houses the whole block used to be owned be a doctor who made it into farm land. So therefore we know the soil is non toxic. The reason the houses were recently torn down is because the owner was trying to get the permits to build but was unable to so he sold the land to a development company. This ties into science because we now know that the soil is not toxic or acidic (since plants can t ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 42. Comparing Lanval And Sir Gawain And The Green Knight Female Representation in Lanval and Sir Gawain and the Green Knight During a high point in medieval chivalric romance, both Marie de France s Lanval and the anonymous Sir Gawain and the Green Knight tell fanciful tales of knighthood, chivalry, and spiritual and temporal (courtly) love. Both Lanval and Sir Gawain and the Green Knight portray their female characters as possessing considerable power and influence, within the events in the story and in the structure of the plot. Indeed, the female characters in both works function as the catalysts of the events within the stories, and also as instruments for each author s conveyed meaning. While Lanval presents its female characters in an unorthodox reversal of gender roles, Sir Gawain and the Green Knight employs the female characters as moral and spiritual trials for the hero, Sir Gawain. I will examine how the fairy princess and Queen Gwenevere in Marie de France s Lanval present a reversal of gender roles as was traditionally understood; she presents femininity as powerful, inspiring, and morally dynamic (for a woman can be ideal, or she can be corrupt). I will compare this to the representation of Lady Bertilak and Morgan le Fay in Sir Gawain and the Green Knight, in which they are used to convey a Biblical warning for an ecclesiastical audience; particularly that of moral failure and the temptation of the flesh. To enrich our understanding of Lanval it is essential to keep in mind the work s authorship and the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 43. Ockham s Razor There are different ways we come to know the stuff in this world. We generally prefer theories that are simple. The simpler the theory, the less entities involved; therefore, the fewer assumptions we have to make. Quine supports the principle Ockham s Razor in acceptance of an ontology. Ockham s Razor is a principle that is preferred when trying to determine our ontological beliefs. The first step of Quine s method suggests that we use simple theories. As a naturalist, Quine also only takes what scientific theories give him. This is slightly problematic because that means only science can determine what exists and seems to deny common sense. • 45. Observation Reflection A few weeks ago our group sat in the Starbucks located on campus for 20 minutes observing people who sat, stood and walked around. In this time we had four different sets of eyes looking around and taking notes. The following is a summary of our observations to answer the required questions. A difficulty we may have encountered if we would have stayed in the same location longer is people would have noticed. People were extremely busy, but as time went by one girl did notice there was something odd about our table and began to stare. That would have made it awkward and caused a distraction of what our goal if more people noticed us. Another difficulty would be our notes would have been repetitive and it would have been hard focusing. As observers, constantly seeing the same thing, it would just be too much for us. During the observation period we conducted as a group, we felt that it would be very easy since we naturally observe people in our free time. Though through time we felt very creepy and somewhat stupid just sitting around staring at people and writing notes. Nevertheless, an overall feeling was that it was interesting sitting. We observed our fellow classmates, Rutgers students and faculty staff who passed by. Overall, in the quality and accuracy of our field notes and conclusions, we would be very confident since we had four different perspectives observing the same location, front, back and sides of the room. All throughout the film, aggression from the local Spanish residents was seen towards the migrant workers. The workers, many of whom were from Morocco or other parts of Sub Saharan Africa, were underpaid for their labor, threatened, verbally and physically abused, and thought to be easily replaced by their employers. Said, for example, nearly bought his own place to live, but the landlord rented it out to someone else, most likely because of race. All these acts of violence cumulates and results in the final scene of the film; where the residents riot and attack the workers, thinking they had set fire to the greenhouse.
