narration that Tolstoy portrays works well with the situation and highlights Pozdnyshev s psychotic
rambling thoughts. Tolstoy creates the passengers on the train to portray his readers, as we are sitting
in place with them and hearing the outrageous story for the first time. By having that aspect, I felt that
I was the unnamed passenger hearing a story from a psychotic narrator. This not only helped me delve

I chose Roses and Birds Number 5 by Kiki Smith as my western piece and for my non western piece I
chose a Spanish Colonial piece called Ornaments. I was originally drawn to Roses and Birds Number
5 because of the thin lines, the flowers, and how its fragility added an aura of femininity. Upon closer
inspection of the art, I appreciated the artist s use of Nepalese paper as her canvas. Unlike Kiki Smith
s piece, I wasn t immediately drawn to Ornaments. The metal, while shiny, looked cold and hard. The
piece is a floral arrangement, but looking at it I couldn t envision the soft petals of flowers. Once I put

Summary Of Literary Modernism In The Waste Land
Literary modernism gained popularity in places like Europe and North America during the early 20th
century. Modernism was a rejection of old Victorian writing styles and a movement towards new and
experimental ideas. This denial of old ideals stemmed from the recently fought World War One. The
war, as well as the many atrocities that were witnessed during it, caused many people to reassess the
way they thought about the world and the direction it was heading. Modernist authors many of whom
fought in the war saw the world transforming before their eyes; they witnessed entire cities shift
towards modern day industrialization. Many authors saw this change as a movement away from the
common man and as a migration towards machines and equipment. This is evident in many prominent
modernist works of the time which were predominantly written in the first person to show these
changes and the effects they had on the average person. Authors tended to promote this self evaluation
and inquiry through symbolic narratives while using many different viewpoints. Specific
characteristics of a traditional modernist work include multiple viewpoints, secondary meanings or
allusions, and non traditional formatting. This break from tradition and the new form of writing style
has transformed modern literature as a whole and has produced some of the most well known writers
and poets of our generation.

Two of the parental leave policies that I find especially generous are offered by Netflix and Microsoft.
I feel that Netflix s offering of paid leave for new mothers or fathers for an entire year after the baby s
birth is especially generous because most companies only offer a few months of maternity leave and is
not necessarily paid, and many companies offer a couple weeks of paternity leave paid if any at all.
Microsoft was especially generous when they nearly doubled their paid leave to twenty weeks for

did with her son. The contradictory statement happens against Yahoo, who lengthened their parental
leave in 2013. This is said to be contradicting because she is a leader within the company who offers a
good amount of parental leave and if she does not take it herself than those coworkers beneath her are
more likely not to take it.
I do agree that there is contradictory signaling going on to a certain extent because if workers of
Yahoo see their boss not taking the leave the company offers the other workers do not want to
disappoint so they will not use the leave either. On the other hand, everyone lives their own life and
should make decisions that will best benefit them and their family and not base it off someone else.
I do not believe that there is a significant difference in the statements because the first statement is
read as take all the time you need, so when that person is ready to come back they should. With the
other statement of we ll see you in 12 weeks , I read that as in 12 weeks your job will still be there
even if you take the full 12 weeks. I feel as with either statement you could use the full 12 weeks or
come back when you are

A Brief Analysis of Life of Brian Essay
Monty Python s Life of Brian is more than just a mere comedy; it is a Biblical, religious, and political
satire. Like all Python films, Life of Brian seems to educate the viewer while at the same time
providing entertainment. Unfortunately not all of the elements in Life of Brian occurred in real life,
which takes away from the validity of the plot. While not everything is accurate, it seems that a
majority of the film could be considered genuine. In order to understand an analysis of the film, one
must first have a basic sense of the plot.
