CHAPTER ONE
1.1 INTRODUCTION
1.0.1 Background of the study
To achieve rapid economic development, many countries resort to various activities to exploit natural
resources. One of such activities is mining which is an important economic activity with the potential
of contributing to the socio economic development of an area.
Although in South Africa, it is on a downward trend from its peak some decades ago (from 21%
contribution to GDP in 1970 to just 6% in 2011), the mining

The Pros And Cons Of Multitasking
Having single pointed focus and no multitasking In today s modern hustle and bustle, people are very
much preoccupied by their work, are always in hurry, engrossed in busy schedules and easily get
agitated so much so that people have ingrained and imbibed a word to describe their efforts to respond
to the many pressing demands on our time: Multitasking. Used for decades to describe the parallel
processing abilities of computers, multitasking is now shorthand for the human attempt to do
simultaneously as many things as possible and as quickly as possible. But more recently, ill effects of
multitasking have begun to emerge. Numerous studies have shown the sometimes fatal danger of
using cell phones and other electronic devices while driving, for example, and several states have now
made that particular form of multitasking illegal ! Dr. Edward Hallowell, a Massachusetts based
psychiatrist who specializes in the treatment of attention deficit hyperactivity disorder and has written
a book with the self explanatory title CrazyBusy, has been offering therapies to combat extreme
multitasking for years; in his book he calls multitasking a mythical activity in which people believe
they can perform two or more tasks simultaneously. In one recent study, Russell Poldrack, a
psychology professor at the University of California, Los Angeles, found that multitasking adversely
affects how you learn. Even if you learn while multitasking, that learning is less flexible and more

How Can We Define Teachers Cognitive Goals For Chemistry...
Implementing the study cycle to the structure of the First Year Chemistry Laboratory to enhance their

How can we define teachers cognitive goals for chemistry lab? Can implementation of the modified
study cycle to chemistry lab coursework improve students conceptual knowledge and motivate them
to self directed learning?

As a cognitive goal, faculties expect that students gain understanding while working through lab, but
student s emphasis is more on understanding the material rather than deeper understanding of
chemical concepts. Because student s psychomotor goal is the most priority goal among cognitive one,
pursuits of conceptual understanding are usually delayed. Surprisingly, in Town s video interview to
those students, goals of chemistry faculty such as a deeper understanding of the nature of science,
learning experimental design, improvement of writing skills, engaging in the work of scientists and

The Chicago Cubs In International Sports
The Chicago Cubs were the only team in the MLB to go the longest without winning a World Series.
Then it happened, November 2,2016. They finally did it. The Chicago Cubs had won the World
Series! They had broken the curse. They waited 108 long years since their last National win. For those
who are unaware, the Chicago is a MLB(Major League Baseball) team from Chicago, Illinois. At first
the were known as the White Stockings, but later changed in 1903 to the Cubs. They were successful
at the start. They would win 6 of the 11 championship they played in. However, in 1907 Chicago won
their first World Series. This would be their only World Series victory until 2016.The cubs would later
become very unsuccessful until he early 2000 s.

The Accidental Prime Minister By Sanjaya Baru
The Accidental Prime Minister by Sanjaya Baru, published in 2014, is an account of former Indian
Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh s two terms in office. Sanjaya Baru was appointed as Media
Adviser to Dr. Manmohan Singh during his first term in UPA 1 from 2004 to 2009. This book is in the
form of a political memoir. The book s narrative follows a chronological format, painting a picture of
Dr. Singh s terms in UPA 1 and UPA 2.
In the introduction to his book, Baru proclaims that none of his predecessors at the Prime Minister s
office ever wrote a full book on his experiences during his tenure. Editors as famous as B G Verghese,
Kuldip Nayar, H K Dua and Prem Shankar Jha chose not to do so. As also bureaucrats like G

It only re affirms what the Indian public knew to be true.
Dr. Manmohan Singh is shown, regrettably, as a helpless, clueless shadow puppet of Sonia Gandhi
who almost arouses our sympathies because of his ineffectiveness in functioning as the Prime Minister
of India. This sad truth was simply being put on record by the primary witness, ie, Sanjaya Baru, to
this political drama.

kowtow to the High Command, Sonia Gandhi. For Dr. Singh, the Gandhi family came first, followed

Argumentative Essay
Argumentative Essay
The function of an argumentative essay is to show that your assertion (opinion, theory, and
hypothesis) about some phenomenon or phenomena is correct or more truthful than others . The art of
argumentation is not an easy skill to acquire. Many people might think that if one simply has an
opinion, one can argue it successfully, and these folks are always surprised when others don t agree
with them because their logic seems so correct. Argumentative writing is the act of forming reasons,
making inductions, drawing conclusions, and applying them to the case in discussion; the operation of
inferring propositions, not known or admitted as true, from facts or principles known, admitted, or
proved to be true. It clearly ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Inductive logic arrives at likely conclusions by counting up evidence, while deductive logic arrives at
necessary conclusions by examining the logical meanings of statements. According to Purdue
University English Profession Neil Gill, deductive arguments can be grouped into two categories: A
Rogerian argument considers several viewpoints and selects the best one, whereas a Toulmin
argument presents a single, linear argument (i.e., A therefore B) in support of a position. Fallacious
Fallacious arguments are logical seeming arguments that are not valid. Unlike logical arguments,
fallacious arguments do not arrive at valid conclusions or inferences. There are literally dozens of
fallacious arguments you can commit; a fallacious argument style is one that commits one or more
fallacies frequently. For example, if a person in an argument persistently says, the economy went up
this year, therefore the party in power caused the economy to improve, that person is engaging in the
post hoc ergo propter hoc fallacy, an invalid argument of the form x happened, y happened, therefore x
caused y. Social Argumentation Styles
Argumentation can be looked at in terms of the way the interlocutors perceive each other. According

The Importance Of Natural Resources In Egypt
Natural Resources
The only reason that Egypt has survived over their long history has been because of the Nile River.
The Nile has provided a long strip of fertile land throughout Egypt moving nearly 88 billion cubic
Meters of water each year. As 90% of water used in the country comes from the Nile its clear to say no
country relies so heavily on a single river. There is a huge flaw there though; they share the river with
another country called Ethiopia. Ethiopia fills a reservoir that can hold 74 Billion cubic Meters of
water. You do the math that leaves only 14 billion cubic meters of water flow for Egypt who is already
on the edge of dehydration. The amount of water left for each citizen without the reservoir is 660
cubic meters per year. If Ethiopia were to take this water from Egypt the country would go into a
phases where they are all without water. While everyone is worried about having a cold drink of water
they will forget to share with their crops and the crops will dry out. Being that 30% of Egyptians are
farmers their crop yield will drop immensely. From there all of the Livestock will die from starvation
because of the lack of food and Egypt will be considered a third world Country. Besides the water
issues Egypt is thriving in other natural resources their gas is exports is honestly the only thing
keeping them afloat. Natural Gasses are their main export and since their country is only farmable
around the Nile there isn t much else the country has to offer.

The Ideology Of Slavery By Drew Gilpin Faust
In The Ideology of Slavery by Drew Gilpin Faust, in Chapter 4 which is James Henry Hammond that
writes a letter to an English Abolitionist, in a section he describes how he believes that Slavery is not a
sin and is approved by Christ. It would seem that while God commanded Moses to free his people that
were slaves to the Pharaoh, man is overlooking these in the Bible and that they are creating their own
law and how their religion differs totally by what they do. I think, then, I may safely conclude, and I
firmly believe, that American Slavery is not only not a sin, but especially commanded by God through
Moses, and approved by Christ through his apostles (Faust 175). When reasoning between what is
right and wrong, Americans only found that what they were doing was not necessarily evil or wrong
just that God permitted it, and also white Americans found slavery to be very significant for their own
lives, due to the fact that their way of making money and making a living involved the owning of
humans to make themselves the most profitable.
While Slavery was against humanity and Abolitionists who believed in abolition of the practice of
slavery, the South had their own reasons why slavery was needed in America and how basically they
supported pro slavery. For instance, some arguments for slavery were, Sudden end to the slave
economy would have had a profound and killing economic impact in the South where reliance on
slave labor was the foundation of their economy. If all

Building Your Own PC
In the following paragraphs I will be instructing you step by step on how to build your own PC
(Personal Computer). It is recommended that you have general knowledge on computers. This means
that you need to know what the different parts are and what they do.
The first thing that you want to do is to get all your tools and parts together. The tools that you will
need are a Phillips screw driver and a ¼ ; socket wrench. The basic parts that you must have are a
motherboard (PC Board), a video card, a sound card, some RAM (Random Access Memory), a hard
drive, a 3 ½ ; floppy A drive, and a computer case. For these particular instructions you will need a ...

After you have tightly crewed those in you will want to take the PC board and set it on top of the
mounting screws. You will want to place the holes of the PC board over the mounting screws. You will
then want to screw down the PC board to the side panel. After you have done this place the side panel,
with the PC board attached, back into the case and replace the screws that were holding it.
You have now completed the first part of your computer. You will now want to look at the front of the
case and take off one or two of the slot panels, depending on if you are installing a CD ROM or not.
This is where you are going to place you amp;#8217;re a drive and your CD ROM if you chose to
install one. You amp;#8217;ll want to go ahead and place in the floppy drive and the CD ROM now
and screw them in tightly. Be sure that they do not protrude out of the front of the case. Now you will
want to place your hard drive in under the floppy drive and secure it. You have now completed the
second part of your computer.
You will know want to take your RAM and place them in the slots they were designed for on the PC
board. You will then want to take the IDE cable that came with the case and plug it into the PC board
where the IDE 1 is labeled. You will then take the other end of the cable and plug it into your CD
ROM. Continue to plug the middle of the cable into your hard drive making

The California Racial Mascots Act
United States sporting teams have a storied history of satirizing or playing off stereotypes when
choosing team mascots. The use of the term Redskins, and other offensive Native American imagery,
has been justified through its intention to honor tradition and Native Americans. The controversy
surrounding the use of Native American mascots began in the 1960s with the Native American Civil
Rights Movement (Dimisa). With the nationwide debate over whether the term is offensive or just
satire, the state of California made a historic decision to become the first state to ban the use of the
term Redskins as a mascot. Following the ban of using Redskins as a mascot, it is imperative that the

(Adams) When passed, the California Racial Mascots Act affected four high schools in California;
Chowchilla High School, Tulare Union High School, Calaveras High school and Gustine High School.
These four high schools had until January 1st, 2017 to change their mascot name to comply with this
law. Since enacting this law, all four of the communities experienced some level of backlash when
changing their name. To many of these communities, using the name Redskins has a part of their
history and an important part of their identity as a school. The first school to comply with the new law
was Gustine High School. The history of Gustine s Redskins mascot dated back to the 1930s. The
original mascot, the Reds, changed when a newspaper reporter called the football players the Redskins
in reaction to the perceived communist threat pervasive at the time (Calix). When faced with the
demand to change their name, Gustine school officials decided to go back to their original roots and
adopted the Reds as their mascot. The name references one of the school s predominant colors. With
the name change solidified, Gustine school officials have already ordered new uniforms vacant of
Redskins and have begun estimating the costs to replace

Kentucky. At age 12, he had his bicycle stolen, and reported the fact to a local policeman (and boxing

advanced through the youth ranks. A low achiever academically, Clay won six Kentucky Gold Gloves
while at high school and was allowed to graduate despite his poor grades. Presciently, his principal

used his height and reach advantage to effectively counterpunch with the jab. As early as the third
round, Liston began to visibly tire, and Clay took full advantage, landing several heavy punches. By
the third, Clay was clearly on top and had opened a large cut under Liston s eye. Liston regained some
ground in the fourth, as Clay was blinded by a foreign substance. It is unknown whether this was
something used to close Liston s cuts or applied to Liston s gloves for a nefarious purpose. Partially
sighted, Clay was able to keep out of range, and by the fifth and into the sixth, he was looking for a
finish. That came before the seventh, when Liston retired on his stool, later claiming his shoulder had
become dislocated. Clay leapt out of his corner, proclaiming himself quot;King of the World quot; and
demanding the writers eat their words.
Clay was duly crowned the heavyweight champion of the world. He would reconfirm his abilities
when he knocked out Liston in the first round of their rematch in Lewiston, Maine on May 25, 1965,
albeit controversially, as few observers saw the quot;phantom punch quot; that

The two people that have changed the most in Angels in America by Tony Kushner are Joe Pitt and
Harper Pitt. These characters have not only changed how they act but have completely changed who
they are. Joe was really concealed for the most of the play, until he sheds his skin and finds out who he
really is. Harper has always been addicted to valium, which shows that she has an unstable
personality. She was always waiting for some kind of change to happen. Joe and Harper go through
many changes in their relationship throughout the play, from being together, to Joe leaving her for
Louis, and finally to Harper wanting to leave and explore on her own. The reason why Harper changes

Essay about Different Perspectives of Cuban Revolution
Different Perspectives of Cuban Revolution
Introduction:
The measures taken by Castro and explicitly stated by him at his trial in 1954, from the very beginning
of his anti Batista movement illustrate his initial desires to reform Cuba and ultimately increase its
standard of living. Different understandings can be perceived by reading various books and documents
that focus on the political changes shaping Cuba s modern day society. Each illustrates different
aspects of the insurrection while simultaneously giving the reader an accurate depiction of the
historical occurrences. Authors Perez Stable and Patterson focus on the turbulent circumstances that
lead Cuba through the various leaders, each with his own agenda trying to ... Show more content on

Because of Cuba s reliance on the export of sugar, Cubans were severely limited in terms of
diversifying its economy and raising its standard of living. According to Perez Stable,
Without diversification, jobs would not be createdand living standards raised...Moving Cuba from
classic dependence on sugar to a new form of dependent capitalism, however, required a realignment
of domestic actors, a new role for the state, and a restructuring of Cuba U.S. relations.
These issues appear as reoccurring themes that build the platforms for many of the reforms sought by
Castro himself. This is because these issues address the focal points of concern for most Cuban
citizens.
The second chapter in Perez Stable s book deals more with the political transitions that shaped Cuba s
societal structure during the turbulent early 1900 s. Corruption and problems with the governmental
structure coincided with the economic crises. Many Cubans fostered anti American sentiments and
regarded the Platt Amendment with much contempt. These feelings arose in part because, Application
of the Platt Amendment was a blatant reminder of the limits of Cuban independence. During these
occurrences, the U.S. vacillated between mediating the Cuban crises and relinquishing ties to the
Cuban government. This stemmed in part from the avid anti American sentiments

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Indian Marketing Mix
In the marketing mix we chose local responsiveness and local responsiveness is when there are
differences between countries in the structure of market segments, a unique marketing mix to appeal
to a certain segment in a given country may be necessary. And we chose it because in India they need
low price products with low quality, the people in India wants specific products and it s different than
what the other countries needs. Product attributes The attributes have to be the same as what they need
and it has to match their culture, level of economic development and product and technical standards.

The advantages of exporting is to avoid the costs of establishing local manufacturing operations but in
our case we want to have our own stores in the country because it will make it easier for us to
transport our products from our stores to the customers, the second advantage of exporting is that it
helps the firm achieve experience effects and location economies and the last advantage is that it has
control over manufacturing quality. One disadvantage of exporting is that there may be lower cost
manufacturing locations; this will not affect us as souq.com because we don t manufacture our own
products. Another disadvantage of the exporting entry mode is high transport costs and tariffs, this
also will not effect us because we are planning to have stores in India not exporting from another
places. The last disadvantage is that a foreign country agent may not act in exporter s best interest.

Dead Poets Society Film Analysis
In Dead Poets Society , directed by Peter Weir, It is not the film with happy ending or story which can
happen in everyday life , The theme presented in the scenario is shown on both sides as a positive or
negative idea , the film allows viewers to make their own decision about it. The theme is emphasized
and given importance through the costuming choices, dialogues , the shots and angles. In this essay , I
will analyze the last scene of a movie which perfectly underlines the theme of the movie freedom for
students to make their own decisions even if it is unpredictable. When you watch the movie you feel
negative emotionally and from the beginning to the end you wait something good to happen as a
viewer you have a feeling that in some point of the movie everything is going to change and become
more clear you are waiting that there will be a moment when these students are going to change the
way they think , the way they talk to their parents as a teenager you have a feeling that there will be a
moment when they are going to tell the parents that they want to live and make decisions considering
their own opinion and they don t care what their dad or mom wants them to become because they
think different , they feel different and they want to live different. The reason why I chose a last scene
is that even after their best friend died they don t change anything in their personality until last scene.

WHO CHOSE THIS RESTAURANT ANYWAY? THE EFFECT OF RESPONSIBILITY FOR
CHOICE, GUARANTEES, AND FAILURE STABILITY ON CUSTOMER COMPLAINING
KEYWORDS: customer complaining behavior; level of responsibility; unconditional service

We test the effect of customers level of responsibility (sole responsibility, joint responsibility, and
group responsibility) for the choice of a restaurant for a group celebration on CCB, following a service
failure during the group dining experience. Service failure is inevitable in the restaurant context
because uncontrollable problems can occur during a dining experience. However, our study is unique
in that it does not examine a situation where the customer is to blame for the service failure, but rather
a scenario where the customer, to varying degrees, has selected a restaurant that has subsequently
failed. The CCB literature advocates that customer voice, whereby customers direct their complaints
to the organization, needs to be facilitated by organizations. When restaurant customers experience
service failure, they frequently warn family and friends about their dissatisfying encounter, such as

Controlling Cell Fate in Zebrafish
Over the past years, there have been many conflicting views over weather or not rest has an effect on
controlling cell fate. There has been previous studies that have indicated that the rest gene influences
gene expression. Researchers at the State University of New York at Stony Brook have taken it upon
themselves to determine if it is in fact true. By using methods like zinc finger nuclease and
quantitative PCR, they were able to find reliable evidence that: rest in zebrafish does have an
influencing affect on neural specific gene expression but it fails to have many significant effects on
zebrafish neurogenesis. First of all, lets look at why exactly scientists choose to work on zebrafish.
Zebrafish was chosen by George Streisinger who was looking for a vertebrae model system to do
work on genetics. It would appear that zebrasfish have some qualities that particularly makes them an
exceptional choice for study. They are easy to maintain, manipulate (ability to microinject DNA, RNA
and proteins into) and have many offspring rather rapidly. Another really interesting quality of
zebrafish is that in the first few days of embryonic development, embryons are transparent, which
allows imaging of cell movement and gene expression. Embryos also develop rather quickly; therefore
scientists could do testing sooner then would be capable if mammals were used. Now lets look at what
exactly is the rest protein. From what research has determined previously, we believe the rest

Understanding Cannabinoids And Their Effects
Understanding Cannabinoids
Join us (and the rest of the world) in somewhat understanding cannabinoids and their effects.
Understanding cannabinoids as a layman seems to be only slightly less confusing than understanding
them as a scientist. That s not entirely true, but we are talking about a system within the human body
with who knows how many receptors and we ve identified exactly two in the last twenty years. Which
is great, because new science is fun, and the concept of understanding cannabinoids is definitely new
science.
What are cannabinoids?
Cannabinoids are compounds that produce the effects experienced from ingesting Cannabis.
There are four types of cannabinoids recognized by the National Institutes of Health:
* Phytocannabinoids include all of the plant material (leaves, stem, seeds, etc.)
* Endocannabinoids are cannabinoids that are produced by the human body
* Synthetic cannabinoids are chemical imitations
* Purified natural occurring extracts are attempts to isolate cannabinoids
The discovery of endocannabinoids led to the identification of an entire system in the human body,
comprised of lipids, receptors, and enzymes. The endocannabinoid system is responsible for a host of
physiological processes that rely on the interactivity of cannabinoids and their receptors. Since their
discovery and cloning in the early 90s, the CB1 and CB2 receptors are still the only receptors that
have been identified in the endocannabinoid system. The location of a

Why does Darry get so angry with Ponyboy?
After the death of the Curtis parents Darry as the eldest took on the role of the leader of the family,
which at times caused disagreements and disputes over what was right. Ponyboy always felt Darry
only cared about Sodapop and he was treated harshly and unfairly. Towards the end of the novel
Ponyboy begins to see Darry s true intentions and becomes appreciative. This realisation occurs when
Darry arrives at the hospital overly concerned about Ponyboy s condition, in a state Ponyboy had
never seen him in before. He was no longer emotionless and for the first time in years he was crying,
Ponyboy then realised Darry did care about me, maybe as much as he cared about Soda, and because
he cared he was trying too hard to make something of me. When he yelled Ponyboy, where have you
been all this time? he meant Ponyboy you ve scared me to death. Please be careful because I couldn t
stand if anything happened to you (pg.120). After losing his parents Darry had changed, he lived in
fear of losing someone else he cared about which is why he often seemed harsh on Ponyboy, when all
he wanted for him was to stay safe. Ponyboy s realisation changed the way he thought about Darry, he

Jules Gabriel Verne s The Mysterious Island
The Mysterious Island
The novel, The Mysterious Island, was written by legendary French 19th Century author, Jules Gabriel
Verne (1828 1905). Verne is widely considered to be the Father of science fiction writings/novels,
often unintentionally predicting future technologies such as submarines, missiles, rocket ships, etc. He
is also known for his many works, for example, Journey to the Center of the Earth, Twenty Thousand
Leagues Under the Sea, Around the World in 80 Days and, the subject of this book report, The
Mysterious Island. I chose this book, not only because it interested me, but because I had started to
read it a few years ago but never got the chance to finish it and it was collecting dust and so I thought I
should use this opportunity to read it. Some interesting facts about the novel include that I managed to
find are that in the original French version of the book, some of the main characters are given slightly
different names: Gédéon Spillet, Nabuchodonosor (Nab) and Harbert Brown as opposed to Gideon

Al Frameworks For An Organization Successful
al frameworks needed to make an organization successful. The objective of this particular assignment
is to survey Delta Airlines, Inc. to gather an understanding of the company s management system. The
survey is also intended to allow the student to learn how the company s management system
influences and motivates its employees. The management system at Delta Airlines has always been
founded on a family oriented approach; with an emphasis of long term job security in exchange for
employee loyalty. In an attempt to recover from significant revenue losses, the company was forced to
turn away from the family business approach during the financial turmoil which affected the entire
airline industry in the early 1990s. This change was very disconcerting for the employees, who began
exploring options to unionize. Fortunately, the company returned to a business model which 1)
restored employee confidence; and 2) provided employees with the opportunity to become
emotionally invested in the future success of the organization.
Although this new partnership approach is credited with giving Delta Airlines a competitive advantage
in the industry, we believe that the lynchpin for success has been a commitment to the following
fundamental core values; effective communications, stress management, a universal understanding of
how people learn; and an integrative performance management system which. This document intends
to highlight key components of each core value as they relate to

The Traditional Global Environment Evolved Into The Modern...
Question 1: Starting in 1900, the traditional global environment evolved into the modern global
system. As international relations scholars have attempted to examine and explain this change, six
worldviews have emerged. These are Realism, Liberalism, Idealism, Neo Marxism, Constructivism,
and Feminism. In an essay format answer, you are to discuss the main characteristics of each
worldview. One of the peculiarities of research of international relations is the variety of conceptual
constructions and competing theoretical approaches. This leads to the fact that an important
epistemological issue of research on international relations is the problem of classification and
typology of existing theories. Political Realism is accurately and ... Show more content on

The motive of international relations is the struggle of states to expand its influence in the external
environment (Kaarbo and Lee Ray, 7). According to liberalism, complex interdependence between
states plays a huge role for each state. Liberalism considers all international organizations to be
extremely important. Economics became more important than military power (Kaarbo and Lee Ray,9).
Thomas Woodrow Wilson was the representatives of idealism. The basis of the idealism is a set of
abstract ethical and legal ideals, norms, and criteria (Kaarbo and Lee Ray, 12). The Key
representatives of neo Marxism were Immanuel Wallerstein, Andre Frank, Robert Cox. The world was
divided not only by states, but also by more important structural elements classes. The structure of the
world economy is determined by the division of all countries based on economic indicators in two
parts: center and periphery (Kaarbo and Lee Ray, 15). Constructivists believed that the focus of the
theory should be directed to the study of processes. The main task of the state is not confined to the
issue of security. States may have long term common interests and influence the international system.
The interests of the state were formed in the process of constructing . All subjects of a policy change

Criminal Justice System Essay
1. Some developments in American policing and the criminal justice system during the colonial period
that were influenced by the English police experience were the idea of self defense and protecting
yourself (p.9). The United States had a sheriff who was important to the police force, just like the
English. In the U.S the sheriffs were paid more like the thief takers, which were paid fees for each
arrest they made (p.9). During the Colonial period they used the English s idea of constables and night
watchmen, which was similar to the watch and ward (p.9). In the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries
they had constables and watchmen just like the English at first. Then the United states took the
English s idea of creating their own police department. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Sir Robert Peel was an important person who had a significant influence on development and shape of
the twentieth century American policing. He drafted the first police bill, the Act for Improving the
Police in and near the Metropolis. Once Parliament passed the act in 1829, then the first large scale,
uniformed, organized, paid, civil police force in London was formed (p. 6). A second important person
was Henry Fielding and his half brother, Sir John Fielding. They laid the foundation for the first
modern police force. They went around to pawn shops and asked the owners to notify if stolen
property was brought into the pawnshops. The Fielding s came up with the idea of the first official
crime report, which we use today (p. 6). The third important person was Stephen Austin. He hired a
dozen bodyguards to protect the Texicans from the Native Americans and bandits. They were
officially named the Texas Rangers. The Texas Rangers became the first United States state police

Technology Has A Growing Influence On Home Life, The...
Technology has been a growing influence in home life, the business world, and now education. Many
schools use technology to enhance student learning. Administrators have bought technological devices
and tools such as; digital cameras, SMART boards, laptops computers, projectors, and course software
to support curriculum, all in the hopes of improving student achievement and motivation. However,
the technology tools themselves should not be the focus. Technology cannot take place of the teacher;
it is a tool that the educator uses to enhance the student s understanding and should be used as
supplemental and to complement the educator s lessons. Bassett recognized that the technological age
should not be about technology alone, rather it should be about what the teacher and the students are
doing with the technology to further understanding and engagement with the lesson (2005, p. 77).
Technology tools are becoming readily available for teachers and students. Today technology is more
available then ever. Honey (2005) sites the National Center of Education Statistics, in saying that
public schools have made consistent progress in expanding Internet access in classrooms. Having
these technological tools and access available allow it easy for teachers to put into practice student
centered learning. Researchers, Neo and Kian study has proved that the use of technology had greatly
effected the student s learning process and widen the depth of learning skills and knowledge.

The Myers Briggs Profile Is Bases
The Neo Freudian theorist on which on which the Myers Briggs profile is bases is Carl Gustav Jung.
Born in 1875 he was a Swiss psychiatrist and psychotherapist who founded analytical psychology, of
which Jung decided the central concept to be individualism. He thought that there were four basic
principal functions by which we see the world, sensation, intuition, feeling, and thinking. He claimed
that we use one of those senses is what we use most of the time. Each of the eight letters stand for
different things in the Myers Briggs profile. The letter E represents Extraversion. Which are basically
extraverts, people that are go getters in life, life working in large groups, have lots of friends, and are
easily excited by being around other people. The letter I stands for Introversion. Which are introverts,
people who are calm, reserved, take the time to reflect on ideas that explain the outside world. The
letter N represents Intuition. Intuitive type may be concerned with what is new and doing new and
different things. They see the big picture of things and are constantly brain storming ideas. They
would also rather gain understanding through insight than through hands on experiences. The Letter S
stand for sensing. People that are sensing are really concerned with what they can actually see in front
of them and approach situations with their eyes open to the facts. The letter F represents Feeling, they

Essay On Hand-Engineered Feature Extraction Techniques
2.1 Introduction
In last few years, remote sensing image scene classification has got a remarkable attention due to its
importance. Researchers are trying hard to classify remote sensing images correctly. For this reason,
we have studied different topics related to this research. Rest of this chapter will describe some
important Hand Engineered feature extraction methods along with deep learning technique. In section
2.2, we will discuss some hand engineered feature extraction methods, in section 2.3, we will discuss
some deep learning models and finally, in section 2.4 we will draw a conclusion.

LBP [1] is very simple to understand and easy to implement. To compute LBP at first we need to
divide the image into cells like 16X16. Then take a pixel into the grid and consider the neighboring
pixels around the pixel. If the center pixel value is greater than or equal to its neighbor, then consider
1 for the neighboring pixel otherwise consider 0. Then take the binary numbers in a sequence
(clockwise or anti clockwise). Assume the number is a binary number and compute the decimal
number. Then set the value to the middle pixel. Compute histogram for each 16x16 cells and finally
concatenate the histograms. The histogram gives the feature vector for entire window. Example of
LBP feature extraction is given in the Figure 2.1
Figure 2.1: Finding decimal value for central pixel using LBP
LBP has some limitations that reduces its application fields. LBP is not rotation invariant and the size
of the features increases exponentially with the number of neighbors which leads to an increase of
computational complexity in terms of time and space.

The Scarlet Ibis By James Hurst
Don t Push Delicate Things Too Hard
In the story The Scarlet Ibis James Hurst tells a story of how a young boy, Doodle, was mentally
challenged and was expected to die. The story is narrated by Doodle s older brother who tells the
reader what he did with Doodle everyday. The story begins when Doodle was a baby and wasn t
expected to live but he did. From there the narrator starts teaching him how to do normal things like
walking, running, and swimming to protect his pride from the fact that his brother wasn t normal,
however, Doodle was every fragile and when he was pushed too hard to do something he ended dying.
In the middle of the story a bird called the Scarlet Ibis comes into their yard and dies from exhaustion
much like the way Doodle did. The theme of the story is don t push delicate things too hard. Within
the story there are several literary devices Hurst used to focus on the theme throughout the story like
symbolism, foreshadowing, and flashbacks.
To illustrate how fragile things meet their end as a result of another force pushing them to use their
absolute entirety of strength until they cannot move forward anymore, Hurst creates a symbol, the
Scarlet Ibis, that represents Doodle. Doodle s older brother, the narrator, always pushed Doodle to do
things he deemed impossible to create a normal brother for himself, but there was never any harm to
Doodle. In the same manner, the Scarlet Ibis was pushed to North Carolina from its native region in
Florida, by a hurricane. Through this ordeal the fowl exerted all its strength to work against the storm
leaving it exhausted, finally resulting in the ultimate destruction of the creature, How many miles it
had traveled to die like this, in our yard, beneath the bleeding tree (Hurst 424). The scarlet ibis was out
of place in this neighborhood, like how Doodle was out of place in his world too, due to how fragile
and underdeveloped he is, not to mention, how weak the bird was from having to endure the storm
that brought him there. The scarlet ibis was pushed over the edge where his strength disappeared.
Doodle s brother ran away from him while they were caught in the storm out of spike ate his
incapabilities. Doodle employed very last ounce of energy he could

Beowulf And Gilgamesh Essay

Compare the Beowulf poet s presentation of the battles with Grendel and his mother with the
Gilgamesh poet s depiction of Gilgamesh battles with Huwawa and the Bull of Heaven.
Fame and glory have been the most admirable characteristics in the middle Ages and even before
Christ in the ancient civilizations. The epics of Gilgamesh and Beowulf are stories of heroism and
immortality gained through fame. The aim of the main characters, Beowulf and Gilgamesh, is to be a
good warrior by being courageous, respectful and prudent, a protector and servant to their king (only

This is how nature is: wild, dangerous, unpredictable but also beautiful. And this is also how Huwawa

strange as Enkidu is also wild, like Huwawa, but Enkidu entered the social life of a civilized nation
and adapted its standards. Huwawa is wild and can t protect a cultured nation; therefore he must die to

Literary Analysis Of The Wasteland, By T. S. Eliot
Analysis of The Wasteland The Wasteland, written by American born British poet T.S. Eliot, is an epic
poem that characterizes the Modernist movement. The poem captures the gloomy mindset of post
WWI society and profoundly guides the savage destruction of the Great War. The Wasteland was Eliot
s masterpiece and went on to become one of the most influential poems of the 20th century. It
exemplifies many of his specific techniques and is well known because of its inventive poetic form. In
the poem, Eliot skillfully utilizes form, symbolism, and diction to depict the horrors of war s
aftermath, signify the death of Western culture, and convey the dreary worldwide view of the
Modernist movement. Eliot s creative use of poetic form is one of the hallmarks of The Wasteland and
greatly contributed to the overall tone and mood. The structure of the poem is uneven and almost
discordant. It rapidly transitions between various unrelated scenes at a rapid pace. For example, I read,
much of the night and go south in the winter/What are the roots that clutch, what branches grow... (19

line, the reader is listening to the story of Marie. In the second line, however, the reader has been
transported to a desert: a literal wasteland. This choppy stream of images emphasizes a message about
society: like the poem, society does not progress smoothly and can even be unpredictable.

Advantages Of Depreciation
Depreciation in accounting concept is the gradual conversion of the cost of a tangible capital asset or
fixed asset into an operational expense (called as depreciation expenses) over the asset s estimated
useful life. There have 3 objectives of the depreciation: 1) Spread a large expenditure (purchase price
of the asset) proportionately over a fixed period to match the revenue received from it. 2) Reduce the
taxable income by charging the amount of depreciation against the company s total income. In effect,
charging of depreciation means recovery of invested capital, by gradual sale of the asset over the years
during which output or service are received from it. 3) Reflect the reduction in the book value of asset

Supplements are used by people who are looking to get additional nutrients that they may not be

supplement that is popular with the bodybuilding and fitness community are branched chain amino

efforts.
BCAAs can help reverse this situation by reducing or slowing down the rate of proteins breaking

and its effects may be stronger than regular protein on its own. BCAAs may also help people to
workout for longer periods of time with more intensity by inhibiting the amino acid tryptophan from
entering the brain and converting into serotonin which cause a sense of fatigue.
Who Should Take BCAA Supplements?
Adults who are healthy, perform light to moderate exercise several times a week, and have a diet that
includes meat, seafood, eggs, dairy products, and legumes do not need to take BCAA supplements.

The Role of P2X Receptors in Nociception
Introduction
Nociception is the sensation of pain which is normally a warning signal to brain in respond to a
potential hazard. Generally noxious stimulations are detected by specialised high threshold sensory
neurons, which are refer to nociceptors. The signals are then transferred to an electrical potential and
conducted to the brain via spinal cord. However sometimes abnormal nociception can lead to a
moderate to severe pain although a noxious stimulus is missing. This kind of pain are usually trigger
by nerve injury, while the pain sensation remains after the tissue had been healed. Although the
prevalence of neuropathic pain is not significant, about 7% to 8% of the European population is
affected, and about 5% are suffering severe pain (Torrance et al., 2006; Bouhassira et al., 2008).
Normally the neuropathic pain is induced by injury of somatosensory nerves, and the pain remains
after the tissue being healed. It can bring abnormal nociception while noxious stimuli are missing,
which called dysesthesia. Beside, pain can be triggered by non painful stimuli, which is called
allodynia). Many research has linked the neuropathic pain to neuronal damages where endogenous
ATP being released. Therefore purinergic receptors that can respond to ATP are involved. In this essay,
after a brief introduction of P2X receptors, the role of microglial P2X4 and P2X7 in neuropathic pain
will be discussed.

By separating the data into identifiable blocks, the information can be easily located. (1) Each
grouping of data, which takes its name from the method of organising paper based information, is
referred to as a file . The file system is comprised of two specific parts: a collection of files and a
directory structure, which provides data about and organises all of the files in the file system. (3)
Some filesystems will be used on local data storage devices, whereas others provide access over a
network, through a network protocol such as NFS. (2)
A filesystem can refer to an entire storage system or part of an isolated segment of storage, i.e. a disk
partition. The word filesystem can be used to refer to a partition or disk that is used to store files or as
part of the description of the type of filesystem in use. For example, one could say this is an extended
filesystem in reference to the type of filesystem in use, or I have three filesystems meaning that one
has three partitions on which one can store files. (4) There is an incredibly important difference
between a disk or partition and the filesystem that it contains. Some programs will operate directly on
sectors of a disk or partition, so they could desolate or seriously corrupt any current filesystem.
However, most programs operate at the filesystem level, and subsequently will not operate correctly
on a disk or partition that either does not contain a

A Retrieved Reformation By O Henry Summary
The short story A Retrieved Reformation, written by O. Henry, takes place mostly in Elmore,
Arkansas. It starts off focusing on Jimmy Valentine, convicted felon, as he gets out of jail and decides
to get back into his old habit of safe cracking. However, when he arrives into the town where the bank
he s targeted lies, he falls in love with Annabel Adams, the banker s daughter. He became a new man,
by the name of Ralph D.Spencer, and then they got married and started a family. Unfortunately, in the
end of the story, he transformed back into Jimmy to save his daughter from dying. This story is an
example of how loving and caring for others brings out the best in people. When elite safecracker
Jimmy Valentine arrived in Elmore, he had nobody in his life worth staying in one place for. He had
never met someone to fall in love with, until he saw, ironically, the banker s daughter. A young lady
crossed the street, passed him at the corner and entered a door over which was the sign, The Elmore
Bank. Jimmy Valentine looked into her eyes, forgot what he was, and became another man. Jimmy
was in love at first sight, and he was so excited because now there is someone in his life worth
sticking around for. He doesn t have to run away anymore. He changed because he didn t want to live
on the run, he wanted to be able to stay with the person he loved.

rationing water earlier rather than allow the Lagartijo reservoir, one of six supplying this city, to turn
bone dry in recent weeks (Vyas 2014). At the last minute, the government decided to ration the water,
which puts pressure on the other water sources such as the two other national parks. This, in turn, will
not only cause inflammation on the water prices, but also the rise of poverty in the capital. It has
gotten so bad, that the protesting has turned into violence. With that, people have pulled out guns and
resorted to violence so that they can get more water which has caused the rationing system to become
defaulted. Another important factor is that water is a key factor for generating electricity and because
the region is prone to droughts, that impacted the hydroelectricity business. Thus the only way to
solve the the water problem is to implement different water managements. The first management is the
integrated urban water management(IUWM). This type of management is important specifically for
Venezuela due to the high population within cities. Caracas is not only

Examples of Genetically Engineered Foods
Example 1: Genetically engineering fish to have fluorescent glows
One of the most disturbing scientific findings of recent years was the extent of the influence upon the
endocrine system of various common chemicals, industrial products, and common pharmaceuticals
such as birth control pills. To track the presence of endocrine disruptors within the bodies of fish,
which have been shown to be particularly vulnerable to the changes caused by such products in the
environment, scientists genetically engineered zebra fish embryos to glow in places where an
endocrine disrupting chemical is present over the course of the fish s development and thus show
where it may be harming the body (Handwerk 2012). The genetic engineering using proteins found in
glowing jellyfish naturally in the wild is specifically designed to not interfere with the fish s natural
systems, yet still provides a way of tracking how the chemicals act in the body using a fluorescent
microscope.
Example 2: Genetically engineering chloroplasts
Genetically engineering the chloroplasts of plants is considered to be one of the more effective forms
of producing hardier plants through the use of genetic modification. It allows for a high level of
transgene expression, or genes that are transmitted from generation to generation. According to
Daniell (et al 2005), chloroplast alteration permits multi gene engineering in a single transformation
event and transgene containment by maternal inheritance, as well as a

Monotheism Vs Abrahamic Religion
Monotheism is the act of believing in one God. The three religions that practice monotheism are
Judaism, Christianity and Islam. Each of these religions have a direct link to Abraham; thus being
called the Abrahamic Religions. Judaism is linked to Abraham as he is proclaimed as the Patriarch of
the Jewish people and the Father of the Covenant. Likewise, Muslims view Abraham as the Father of
the Arab people as well as the Jewish people through his two sons, Isaac and Ishmael. Christians view
Abraham as the prototype of all believers, the Father of the Covenant and the Father of Isaac and
Ishmael. Sacred traditions are treated with both celebration and seriousness in the monotheistic
religions.
Just as God instructed Abraham 4000 years ago, a sacred Jewish ritual would be the circumcision of
all baby boys when they reach eight days of age. Another ritual is when families gather to welcome
the Holy day of the Sabbath. For a Jewish person, their religion is very much dedicating their lives to
God, where their whole life becomes an act of worship. The LORD would speak to Moses face to
face, as a man speaks with his friend. But after getting the 10 commandments Moses ... Show more

Each of these pillars could be considered a sacred practice of Islam. The pillar of Seyam signifies
fasting during the month of Ramadan. This must be undertaken by all healthy Muslims. 2:183 O ye
who believe! Fasting is prescribed to you as it was prescribed to those before you, that ye may (learn)
self restraint, As a gift to God, Muslims refuse to eat or drink so that they have time to focus on the
presence of God. Seyam goes from dawn to dusk and is obligatory. The beliefs of a Muslim are based

The Wallpaper Of Purple By Steven Spielberg
The Sexist Shade of Purple
If Jaws was the movie that jumpstarted Steven Spielberg s career in the film industry, then The Color
Purple was the movie that was able to distinguish Steven from any other movie director during the
time. All of Spielberg s movies prior to 1985 were generally movies of either action packed adventure
or unnerving horror, but once Steven Spielberg announced that he would be doing a movie based on
Alice Walker s book, The Color of Purple, no one knew what to expect. Jump 31 years later, Steven
Spielberg s The Color of Purple, is still seen as a film masterpiece that deals with a grotesque yet
historical insight of African American culture back in the early 1900 s. Through the depiction of visual
art form of film, Steven Spielberg was able to highlight certain aspects of everyday African American
life back then such as the existence of sexism, racism and the importance of familial relationships.
However, Steven Spielberg emphasizes and brings to the spotlight the aspect of sexism of the
historical African American community. With a movie full of uncomfortable and daunting scenes,
Steven Spielberg is able to underline the evil social facet of sexism faced by African American women
in their community in the past. Steven wants his audience to know that side of African American
history and wants us to view African American women differently because of it In the very beginning
of the movie, we are shown a brutal scene of the main character, Cecile,

Human Smuggling And Human Trafficking
Human smuggling is defined as the act of facilitating, transporting or aiding the illegal entry of a
person or persons across an international border, deliberately evading the country s immigration laws.
Human trafficking is similar, but not quite the same since the person being trafficked has not given
consent, while smuggling is under an agreement between smuggler and customer. A victim of
trafficking is also usually treated as possession to be controlled and exploited ( Human Trafficking
Gale ) . Human smuggling and trafficking both have damaging effects and the causality is left with
physical, mental and emotional scars. A majority of the people that are being affected are migrants
from Central America or residents of the Mexican highlands hoping to get work on farms or
construction sites in the U.S. Being smuggled across the border is very problematic. Not only because
there is a high risk of being caught, but if they are able to make it across they are generally unable to
pay for food, transportation and often don t speak English.( Dying to Leave. ) Victims of trafficking
are primarily young children or women whose purpose is to either be used as slave labor or some sort
of sexual exploitation like prostitution. Human smuggling and trafficking is such an important issue to
resolve because it s a violation of human rights, a form of organized crime, undermines human safety
and even threatens development prospects in many regions around the world ( Human Trafficking. )

Math Vectors
MIchael Driesen Mrs. Rozell Math 10H 17 December 2011 Vectors Math is everywhere. No matter
which way you look at it, it s there. It is especially present in science. Most people don t notice it, they
have to look closer to find out what it is really made of. A component in math that is very prominent in
science is the vector. What is a vector? A vector is a geometric object that has both a magnitude and a
direction. A good example of a vector is wind. 30 MPH north. It has both magnitude,(in this case
speed) and direction. Vectors have specific properties that make them very useful in real life
applications. Through the use of these special objects, many advancements in the fields of math and
science are available. Representations ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The equation for the cross product is: . It can also be written as: The easiest way of finding the cross
product is by setting the coordinates up in a 3x3 matrix. A matrix is a way of organizing data. Using i,
j, and k as place holders and using the same two vectors from before, the matrix would look like this:
Now, in order to get the new vector, the determinant has to be found. The work for the determinant is
below: The final vector is a vector that is orthogonal to the other two. This is a good representation of
what it would look like: The cross product is necessary to find the amount of torque or work needed or
used. Other Vectors Null Vector: The null vector is a vector that has the length (magnitude) of 0. It is
written as (0,0,0) and if c is a null vector and a is a normal one, c+a=a. Unit Vector: This vector is
more about direction than magnitude. The unit vector has a magnitude of one, always. Turning a
vector into its unit vector is easy. Just divide the vector by its magnitude. This is called the
normalization of a vector. Adding Vectors Adding vectors is very easy. All that is needed is a
knowledge of trigonometry. Specifically, the law of cosines and the law of sines. To add two vectors,
simply stick them head to tail, and

The Pros And Cons Of Multitasking Having single pointed focus and no multitasking In today s modern hustle and bustle, people are very much preoccupied by their work, are always in hurry, engrossed in busy schedules and easily get agitated so much so that people have ingrained and imbibed a word to describe their efforts to respond to the many pressing demands on our time: Multitasking. Used for decades to describe the parallel processing abilities of computers, multitasking is now shorthand for the human attempt to do simultaneously as many things as possible and as quickly as possible. But more recently, ill effects of multitasking have begun to emerge. Numerous studies have shown the sometimes fatal danger of using cell phones and other electronic devices while driving, for example, and several states have now made that particular form of multitasking illegal ! Dr. Edward Hallowell, a Massachusetts based psychiatrist who specializes in the treatment of attention deficit hyperactivity disorder and has written a book with the self explanatory title CrazyBusy, has been offering therapies to combat extreme multitasking for years; in his book he calls multitasking a mythical activity in which people believe they can perform two or more tasks simultaneously. In one recent study, Russell Poldrack, a psychology professor at the University of California, Los Angeles, found that multitasking adversely affects how you learn. The art of argumentation is not an easy skill to acquire. Many people might think that if one simply has an opinion, one can argue it successfully, and these folks are always surprised when others don t agree with them because their logic seems so correct. Fallacious Fallacious arguments are logical seeming arguments that are not valid. Unlike logical arguments, fallacious arguments do not arrive at valid conclusions or inferences. There are literally dozens of fallacious arguments you can commit; a fallacious argument style is one that commits one or more fallacies frequently. The Nile has provided a long strip of fertile land throughout Egypt moving nearly 88 billion cubic Meters of water each year. As 90% of water used in the country comes from the Nile its clear to say no country relies so heavily on a single river. There is a huge flaw there though; they share the river with another country called Ethiopia. Ethiopia fills a reservoir that can hold 74 Billion cubic Meters of water. You do the math that leaves only 14 billion cubic meters of water flow for Egypt who is already on the edge of dehydration. The amount of water left for each citizen without the reservoir is 660 cubic meters per year. If Ethiopia were to take this water from Egypt the country would go into a phases where they are all without water. While everyone is worried about having a cold drink of water they will forget to share with their crops and the crops will dry out. Being that 30% of Egyptians are farmers their crop yield will drop immensely. From there all of the Livestock will die from starvation because of the lack of food and Egypt will be considered a third world Country. I think, then, I may safely conclude, and I firmly believe, that American Slavery is not only not a sin, but especially commanded by God through Moses, and approved by Christ through his apostles (Faust 175). When reasoning between what is right and wrong, Americans only found that what they were doing was not necessarily evil or wrong just that God permitted it, and also white Americans found slavery to be very significant for their own lives, due to the fact that their way of making money and making a living involved the owning of humans to make themselves the most profitable. Service failure is inevitable in the restaurant context because uncontrollable problems can occur during a dining experience. However, our study is unique in that it does not examine a situation where the customer is to blame for the service failure, but rather a scenario where the customer, to varying degrees, has selected a restaurant that has subsequently failed. There has been previous studies that have indicated that the rest gene influences gene expression. Researchers at the State University of New York at Stony Brook have taken it upon themselves to determine if it is in fact true. By using methods like zinc finger nuclease and quantitative PCR, they were able to find reliable evidence that: rest in zebrafish does have an influencing affect on neural specific gene expression but it fails to have many significant effects on zebrafish neurogenesis. First of all, lets look at why exactly scientists choose to work on zebrafish. Zebrafish was chosen by George Streisinger who was looking for a vertebrae model system to do work on genetics. It would appear that zebrasfish have some qualities that particularly makes them an exceptional choice for study. They are easy to maintain, manipulate (ability to microinject DNA, RNA and proteins into) and have many offspring rather rapidly. Another really interesting quality of zebrafish is that in the first few days of embryonic development, embryons are transparent, which allows imaging of cell movement and gene expression. • 19. Understanding Cannabinoids And Their Effects Understanding Cannabinoids Join us (and the rest of the world) in somewhat understanding cannabinoids and their effects. Understanding cannabinoids as a layman seems to be only slightly less confusing than understanding them as a scientist. That s not entirely true, but we are talking about a system within the human body with who knows how many receptors and we ve identified exactly two in the last twenty years. Which is great, because new science is fun, and the concept of understanding cannabinoids is definitely new science. What are cannabinoids? Cannabinoids are compounds that produce the effects experienced from ingesting Cannabis. There are four types of cannabinoids recognized by the National Institutes of Health: * Phytocannabinoids include all of the plant material (leaves, stem, seeds, etc.) * Endocannabinoids are cannabinoids that are produced by the human body * Synthetic cannabinoids are chemical imitations * Purified natural occurring extracts are attempts to isolate cannabinoids The discovery of endocannabinoids led to the identification of an entire system in the human body, comprised of lipids, receptors, and enzymes. The endocannabinoid system is responsible for a host of physiological processes that rely on the interactivity of cannabinoids and their receptors. Since their discovery and cloning in the early 90s, the CB1 and CB2 receptors are still the only receptors that have been identified in the endocannabinoid system. The location of a ... The management system at Delta Airlines has always been founded on a family oriented approach; with an emphasis of long term job security in exchange for employee loyalty. In an essay format answer, you are to discuss the main characteristics of each worldview. Economics became more important than military power (Kaarbo and Lee Ray,9). Thomas Woodrow Wilson was the representatives of idealism. The basis of the idealism is a set of abstract ethical and legal ideals, norms, and criteria (Kaarbo and Lee Ray, 12). The Key representatives of neo Marxism were Immanuel Wallerstein, Andre Frank, Robert Cox. The world was divided not only by states, but also by more important structural elements classes. The structure of the world economy is determined by the division of all countries based on economic indicators in two parts: center and periphery (Kaarbo and Lee Ray, 15). Constructivists believed that the focus of the theory should be directed to the study of processes. The main task of the state is not confined to the issue of security. Some developments in American policing and the criminal justice system during the colonial period that were influenced by the English police experience were the idea of self defense and protecting yourself (p.9). The United States had a sheriff who was important to the police force, just like the English. In the U.S the sheriffs were paid more like the thief takers, which were paid fees for each arrest they made (p.9). During the Colonial period they used the English s idea of constables and night watchmen, which was similar to the watch and ward (p.9). Many schools use technology to enhance student learning. Administrators have bought technological devices and tools such as; digital cameras, SMART boards, laptops computers, projectors, and course software to support curriculum, all in the hopes of improving student achievement and motivation. However, the technology tools themselves should not be the focus. Technology cannot take place of the teacher; it is a tool that the educator uses to enhance the student s understanding and should be used as supplemental and to complement the educator s lessons. Bassett recognized that the technological age should not be about technology alone, rather it should be about what the teacher and the students are doing with the technology to further understanding and engagement with the lesson (2005, p. 77). Technology tools are becoming readily available for teachers and students. Today technology is more available then ever. Honey (2005) sites the National Center of Education Statistics, in saying that public schools have made consistent progress in expanding Internet access in classrooms. He claimed that we use one of those senses is what we use most of the time. Each of the eight letters stand for different things in the Myers Briggs profile. The letter E represents Extraversion. Researchers are trying hard to classify remote sensing images correctly. For this reason, we have studied different topics related to this research. Rest of this chapter will describe some important Hand Engineered feature extraction methods along with deep learning technique. In section 2.2, we will discuss some hand engineered feature extraction methods, in section 2.3, we will discuss some deep learning models and finally, in section 2.4 we will draw a conclusion. 2.2 Hand Engineered Feature Extraction Method Feature plays a very important role in the area of image processing. If the center pixel value is greater than or equal to its neighbor, then consider 1 for the neighboring pixel otherwise consider 0. Then take the binary numbers in a sequence (clockwise or anti clockwise). Assume the number is a binary number and compute the decimal number. Then set the value to the middle pixel. The Scarlet Ibis By James Hurst Don t Push Delicate Things Too Hard In the story The Scarlet Ibis James Hurst tells a story of how a young boy, Doodle, was mentally challenged and was expected to die. The story is narrated by Doodle s older brother who tells the reader what he did with Doodle everyday. The story begins when Doodle was a baby and wasn t expected to live but he did. From there the narrator starts teaching him how to do normal things like walking, running, and swimming to protect his pride from the fact that his brother wasn t normal, however, Doodle was every fragile and when he was pushed too hard to do something he ended dying. In the middle of the story a bird called the Scarlet Ibis comes into their yard and dies from exhaustion much like the way Doodle did. The theme of the story is don t push delicate things too hard. Within the story there are several literary devices Hurst used to focus on the theme throughout the story like symbolism, foreshadowing, and flashbacks. To illustrate how fragile things meet their end as a result of another force pushing them to use their absolute entirety of strength until they cannot move forward anymore, Hurst creates a symbol, the Scarlet Ibis, that represents Doodle. Doodle s older brother, the narrator, always pushed Doodle to do things he deemed impossible to create a normal brother for himself, but there was never any harm to Doodle. In the same manner, the Scarlet Ibis was pushed to North Carolina from its native region in Florida, by a hurricane. Through this ordeal the fowl exerted all its strength to work against the storm leaving it exhausted, finally resulting in the ultimate destruction of the creature, How many miles it had traveled to die like this, in our yard, beneath the bleeding tree (Hurst 424). The scarlet ibis was out of place in this neighborhood, like how Doodle was out of place in his world too, due to how fragile and underdeveloped he is, not to mention, how weak the bird was from having to endure the storm that brought him there. The scarlet ibis was pushed over the edge where his strength disappeared. Doodle s brother ran away from him while they were caught in the storm out of spike ate his incapabilities. • 30. Literary Analysis Of The Wasteland, By T. S. Eliot Analysis of The Wasteland The Wasteland, written by American born British poet T.S. Eliot, is an epic poem that characterizes the Modernist movement. The poem captures the gloomy mindset of post WWI society and profoundly guides the savage destruction of the Great War. The Wasteland was Eliot s masterpiece and went on to become one of the most influential poems of the 20th century. It exemplifies many of his specific techniques and is well known because of its inventive poetic form. In the poem, Eliot skillfully utilizes form, symbolism, and diction to depict the horrors of war s aftermath, signify the death of Western culture, and convey the dreary worldwide view of the Modernist movement. Eliot s creative use of poetic form is one of the hallmarks of The Wasteland and greatly contributed to the overall tone and mood. The structure of the poem is uneven and almost discordant. It rapidly transitions between various unrelated scenes at a rapid pace. For example, I read, much of the night and go south in the winter/What are the roots that clutch, what branches grow... Generally noxious stimulations are detected by specialised high threshold sensory neurons, which are refer to nociceptors. The signals are then transferred to an electrical potential and conducted to the brain via spinal cord. However sometimes abnormal nociception can lead to a moderate to severe pain although a noxious stimulus is missing. This kind of pain are usually trigger by nerve injury, while the pain sensation remains after the tissue had been healed. Although the prevalence of neuropathic pain is not significant, about 7% to 8% of the European population is affected, and about 5% are suffering severe pain (Torrance et al., 2006; Bouhassira et al., 2008). Normally the neuropathic pain is induced by injury of somatosensory nerves, and the pain remains after the tissue being healed. It can bring abnormal nociception while noxious stimuli are missing, which called dysesthesia. Beside, pain can be triggered by non painful stimuli, which is called allodynia). Many research has linked the neuropathic pain to neuronal damages where endogenous ATP being released. Therefore purinergic receptors that can respond to ATP are involved. It starts off focusing on Jimmy Valentine, convicted felon, as he gets out of jail and decides to get back into his old habit of safe cracking. However, when he arrives into the town where the bank he s targeted lies, he falls in love with Annabel Adams, the banker s daughter. He became a new man, by the name of Ralph D.Spencer, and then they got married and started a family. Unfortunately, in the end of the story, he transformed back into Jimmy to save his daughter from dying. This story is an example of how loving and caring for others brings out the best in people. When elite safecracker Jimmy Valentine arrived in Elmore, he had nobody in his life worth staying in one place for. He had never met someone to fall in love with, until he saw, ironically, the banker s daughter. A young lady crossed the street, passed him at the corner and entered a door over which was the sign, The Elmore Bank. Jimmy Valentine looked into her eyes, forgot what he was, and became another man. To track the presence of endocrine disruptors within the bodies of fish, which have been shown to be particularly vulnerable to the changes caused by such products in the environment, scientists genetically engineered zebra fish embryos to glow in places where an endocrine disrupting chemical is present over the course of the fish s development and thus show where it may be harming the body (Handwerk 2012). The genetic engineering using proteins found in glowing jellyfish naturally in the wild is specifically designed to not interfere with the fish s natural systems, yet still provides a way of tracking how the chemicals act in the body using a fluorescent microscope. Each of these religions have a direct link to Abraham; thus being called the Abrahamic Religions. Judaism is linked to Abraham as he is proclaimed as the Patriarch of the Jewish people and the Father of the Covenant. Likewise, Muslims view Abraham as the Father of the Arab people as well as the Jewish people through his two sons, Isaac and Ishmael. Christians view Abraham as the prototype of all believers, the Father of the Covenant and the Father of Isaac and Ishmael. Sacred traditions are treated with both celebration and seriousness in the monotheistic religions. Just as God instructed Abraham 4000 years ago, a sacred Jewish ritual would be the circumcision of all baby boys when they reach eight days of age. The Wallpaper Of Purple By Steven Spielberg The Sexist Shade of Purple If Jaws was the movie that jumpstarted Steven Spielberg s career in the film industry, then The Color Purple was the movie that was able to distinguish Steven from any other movie director during the time. All of Spielberg s movies prior to 1985 were generally movies of either action packed adventure or unnerving horror, but once Steven Spielberg announced that he would be doing a movie based on Alice Walker s book, The Color of Purple, no one knew what to expect. Jump 31 years later, Steven Spielberg s The Color of Purple, is still seen as a film masterpiece that deals with a grotesque yet historical insight of African American culture back in the early 1900 s. Through the depiction of visual art form of film, Steven Spielberg was able to highlight certain aspects of everyday African American life back then such as the existence of sexism, racism and the importance of familial relationships. • 45. Human Smuggling And Human Trafficking Human smuggling is defined as the act of facilitating, transporting or aiding the illegal entry of a person or persons across an international border, deliberately evading the country s immigration laws. Human trafficking is similar, but not quite the same since the person being trafficked has not given consent, while smuggling is under an agreement between smuggler and customer. A victim of trafficking is also usually treated as possession to be controlled and exploited ( Human Trafficking Gale ) . Human smuggling and trafficking both have damaging effects and the causality is left with physical, mental and emotional scars. A majority of the people that are being affected are migrants from Central America or residents of the Mexican highlands hoping to get work on farms or construction sites in the U.S. Being smuggled across the border is very problematic. Not only because there is a high risk of being caught, but if they are able to make it across they are generally unable to pay for food, transportation and often don t speak English.( Dying to Leave. ) Victims of trafficking are primarily young children or women whose purpose is to either be used as slave labor or some sort of sexual exploitation like prostitution. Human smuggling and trafficking is such an important issue to resolve because it s a violation of human rights, a form of organized crime, undermines human safety and even threatens development prospects in many regions around the world ( Human Trafficking. ) ... • 46. Math Vectors MIchael Driesen Mrs. Rozell Math 10H 17 December 2011 Vectors Math is everywhere. No matter which way you look at it, it s there. It is especially present in science. Most people don t notice it, they have to look closer to find out what it is really made of. A component in math that is very prominent in science is the vector. What is a vector? A vector is a geometric object that has both a magnitude and a direction. A good example of a vector is wind. 30 MPH north. It has both magnitude,(in this case speed) and direction. Vectors have specific properties that make them very useful in real life applications. Through the use of these special objects, many advancements in the fields of math and science are available. Representations ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The equation for the cross product is: . It can also be written as: The easiest way of finding the cross product is by setting the coordinates up in a 3x3 matrix. A matrix is a way of organizing data. Using i, j, and k as place holders and using the same two vectors from before, the matrix would look like this: Now, in order to get the new vector, the determinant has to be found. The work for the determinant is below: The final vector is a vector that is orthogonal to the other two. This is a good representation of what it would look like: The cross product is necessary to find the amount of torque or work needed or used. Other Vectors Null Vector: The null vector is a vector that has the length (magnitude) of 0. It is written as (0,0,0) and if c is a null vector and a is a normal one, c+a=a. Unit Vector: This vector is more about direction than magnitude. The unit vector has a magnitude of one, always. Turning a vector into its unit vector is easy. Just divide the vector by its magnitude. This is called the normalization of a vector. Adding Vectors Adding vectors is very easy. All that is needed is a knowledge of trigonometry. Specifically, the law of cosines and the law of sines. To add two vectors, simply stick them head to tail, and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
