The Perceptions Of Black Males
The Perceptions of Black Males in College
Kwesi N. Luke
Liberty University
Abstract
African American males in higher education have captured the attention of researchers; sadly,
exhausted amount of research has focused primarily on the failing black male, while little has been
done to address the problem. This paper focuses on factors that influence the perceptions and self
esteem of African Americanmales in higher education, and explore why their educational
achievements are overwhelmingly lower than any other racial/ethnic group. Specifically, this
review focuses on how research in education or the lack thereof has contributed to this particular
issue. The review of literature in this paper leads to two research questions: (1) What efforts if
any have been directed to address the negative outcomes of black males in higher education? (2)
What other external factors have prevented black males from achieving their objectives at a lower
rate than any other racial or ethnic group? The following 10 reviews attempt to answer the above
questions.
Keywords: Black males in higher education, failing black males, Education attainment among black
men, Scholarly journals on black men in education, why black men fail, external factors affecting
black males in education.
Stating the Problem Despite the aspirations of African American males to further their education,

Dreams Deferred Langston Hughes Analysis
In the poem Dreams Deferred by Langston Hughes, similes are used immensely throughout the
poem. He relates each simile back to the first line of the poem, What happens to a dream
deferred? Hughes scrutinizes the possible effects caused by a dream being deferred by his usage
of similes and a metaphor. The first simile Hughes writes is in line three, Does it dry up/like a
raisin in the sun. One may picture a grape, once succulent and full of life, now shriveled up and
lifeless. Hughes wants to create this image to prove that dreams get smaller over time, but they
never disappear. In line four, a second simile is used, Or fester like a sore . Readers automatically
think of an oozing sore when they read this line. Sores fester when

A Modest Proposal, By Aldous Huxley And Jonathan Swift
Aldous Huxley and Jonathan Swift both have a different way of bringing society s attention to
the real problems of the world. Both authors utilize the New Historicism lense as an influence to
each of their pieces of literature. From 1729 to 1932, there were plenty of historical conflicts that
could help each author make society want to change the current problems that they were facing.
Huxley satirizes the sexual freedom and moral decay of the Roaring 20s in Brave New Worldand
Swift satirizes the rising problem of overpopulation in Ireland in his short story, A Modest Proposal
. A popular theory by Thomas Malthus on overpopulation could have been influenced by Swift s
short story and Huxley might have used it to contribute to his novel.... Show more content on

Both pieces of literature use satire to raise awareness of the conflicts and to make society question
or feel the need to change the current problems. Thomas Malthus, a scholar that was born about
thirty years following the great Irish famine discovered a famous population theory. In general, he
stated in his theory that the population of a country will always be greater than the amount of
sources it can produce, like food. It is possible that he came up with his population theory after
studying all of the potential factors in the Irish famine. Overpopulation was one of the main
contributors to the famine. In Brave New World, the characters use Malthusian belts which held
contraceptives like birth control and condoms. These belts that the men and women of this book
wore were used to control overpopulation, which was the exact conflict that Jonathan Swift was
trying to resolve in his short story, A Modest

Life Changing Experience In Life
For many, a life changing moment comes in the form of a tragedy or a hard earned revelation.
Mine came in the form of a five year old girl named Sofia. Sofia spent most of her time in the
oncology ward of the hospital where I volunteered. Her days consisted of sterile hospital rooms,
scans, and chemotherapy. She was losing her hair because of chemo when most girls her age
were learning how to braid theirs. She played with a doll (Mr. Buttons) in her hospital room
instead of playing with other children. Sofia wasn t lonely in the traditional sense. Family,
friends, and even strangers visited the little girl, but could barely interact with her. Most of the
time, she was too tired to play and, when she finally mustered the energy, she found herself
behind a glass panel. The doctors thought it best to keep Sofia isolated, to minimize her chances
of falling ill in her already feeble condition. And, indeed, this is how I interacted with Sofia for a
month. Week after week, hour after hour, I d go to the glass wall to see if she had awoken and
would spend an hour that felt like seconds, playing with her. I suppose that s relativity for you.
Sofia was both the highlight and heartbreak of my week. Comments like, Poor thing and It s just
not fair were heard as often as the incessant beeping of the monitors. Talk is cheap, and pity doesn
t make progress. I had to do something. It is very rare to come across an opportunity to make a
fundamental change in the lives of thousands. I

Compare And Contrast Bud Light And Coor Light
There are many light beers out there in today s market that have their very own unique taste and
exquisite way to advertise their product. Within the light beer market the two well known beers
are Bud Light, and Coors Light. Bud Light advertising appeals more to being a very social and
party intended beer, Whereas Coors Lighttakes more of a traditional stance. Bud Lighton the other
hand advertise towards today society by giving us a summertime feeling with the cruise ship and
the group of people drinking while having a live band. Coors Light keeps a traditional look as
being winter time, with the Rocky Mountains, and bold letters that says, GIVE HEAT THE COLD
SHOULDER. I myself find I m more drawn into the Bud Light advertisement because of the season
it s representing, the color, and even the social event that s going on. Both Bud Light and Coors
Light make excellence light beers, but an appropriate choice depends on the beer drinker taste,
finances, and household accommodations. In the Bud Light advertisement the colors is the main
thing you notice. Its many different shades of blue with a hint of white which gives off a warm
feeling almost like summertime. Bud Light stays true to their colors whether it is in magazine to
even their web page. The colors remain blue like their cans and bottles. The text within it picture
are not very big but the name of the product which is Bud Light appears in five places throughout
the advertisement. The name is pretty much in all

Similarities Between The Sun Also Rises And The Great Gatsby
The American Dream is something that we as a working class are encouraged to strive for
because it is viewed as the epitome of being successful. Our two novels, The Sun Also Rises by
Ernest Hemingway and The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald, are both set during a time
Gertrude Stein refers to as a lost generation . Happening during WWI, the Roaring 20 s became
infamous for its lavish lifestyles and careless ways due to the ongoing war. However, eventually the
line between happiness and wealth starts to blur as people mistakenly try to buy their contentment
instead of just expressing how they feel. Therefore, our characters from the two novels hide behind
the partying and the drinking in order to conceal their true problems. Money has become... Show

In The Sun Also Rises, Jake and Brett go on this long journey only to end up in a taxi together
like they were in the beginning. Oh, Jake, Brett said, we could have had such a damned good
time together. ... Yes, I said. Isn t it pretty to think so? (Hemingway 247), showing how even
after what they ve gone through they still end up in each other s arms. Whether or not the
characters get a chance at happiness is unclear, but the readers can assume that there seems to be
little hope for our characters at the very end. Brett asks Jake to not get drunk, and for the first
time we get to see her change of attitude towards alcohol especially after she had been drunk the
entire time. This shows that a little part of Brett wants to change, but then she also says, I m
going back to Mike...He s so damned nice and he s so awful. He s my sort of thing. (Hemingway
243), explaining that although she has these dreams of who she will like to be, she is unable to
fulfill them because she in this cycle that has no escape. Likewise, The Great Gatsby also does a
full circle in that by the end of the novel Gatsby ends up being alone and Daisy runs off with Tom
again. To Nick, Gatsby symbolizes hope because his drive to win back Daisy is admirable during
these times when no one seems to care about anything but money. Ultimately, Gatsby ends

crowd shouts, now it s a real party! The Republican and Democratic party make up the two most
popular parties in the United States, with 53% of Americans identifying with one or the other party

eventually will identify as either a Republican or a Democrat, the overall process of party selection

young adults may not have as high of a voter turnout as older generations, this is not necessarily
the only way to measure the political activity of a cohort. When the research by Lewis Beck was

Facebook and Twitter, to spread voter education. Additionally, the utilization of websites like

Mediation Causes A Great Deal Of Impact On American Society
Mediation causes a great deal of impact on American society. In the movie Gamer, characters
deal with a never ending cycle of competition and become trapped in conflict. Superficial worlds
collide with reality and these worlds impact every citizen in the film. A viewer watching the film
may feel disgusted at the thought of being controlled as easily as characters in Gamer are, but the
sad truth lies within the reality of our own, mediated world. Gamer plays on viewers pre
conceived beliefs mediation causes. The common beliefs of competition making the world spin
around and money buying happiness, trap us as citizens in a vicious cycle of conflict with the
world around us. Gamer takes place in a near future New York City where a twisted man named
Ken Castle invents a method to controlpeoples minds. Castle has developed a nano cell that
replicates itself when placed on human brain cells and eventually takes over a subject,s whole
mind. Castle also created two virtual worlds where citizens hire other citizens to implant nano
cells and give up control of their minds. The paying citizens then obtain complete control over
their employee . Society, comparable to The Sims of our world, allows for control in all aspects
of life. The other world Castle creates, Slayers, contains similar qualities to our own modern day
multi player shooting games like the Call of Duty or Halo series. A twist in Slayers gameplay does
exist though. Instead of controlling anyone willing to give up

Despite The Tremendous Economic Success In Texas And Its
Despite the tremendous economic success in Texas and its overall well being, the state continues to
face its nonstandard set of challenges that must be addressed immediately. Certainly, the most
pressing issue is a deteriorating transportation infrastructure, which requires innovation, long range
planning and, of course, investment (Button Reggiani, 2011). The following study focuses on the
deteriorating transportation infrastructureas a major issue facing the state of Texas. The report will

Therefore, the changing characteristics and the growth of the Texas population are the major causes
of the transportation problem (Gravel, 2016).
While it was not a major issue in the just concluded campaigns, the future of Texas infrastructure
did receive attention in the two major Texas political parties (Republican and Democratic).
However, the political parties reveal differing positions and philosophies on ways of tackling the
issue. To be specific, the Democrats believe that infrastructure is important to the future economic
prosperity (LePatner, 2010). Further, the party argues that broadband networks, schools, water
systems, and energy are some of the infrastructures that are readily ripe for investment. As such, the
party hopes that investments in such fields may help address other related issues such as
unemployment too. Sadly, the Democratic Party does not mention how additional funding would
be injected in infrastructure. Instead, the members weigh in on some tools that may be vital in
helping Texas to fund infrastructure projects (Schiller, Bruun, Kenworthy, 2010). The party
promises to continue encouraging investments in infrastructure by state and local governments by
creating a lasting edition of the Build America Bonds program. Conversely, the Republicans appear
unfavorably on using government funds for sidewalks,

Persuasive Essay About Courage
As children, we were all mesmerized by the bravery of the superheroes on television. Wide eyed,
we heard the cheers of the town as they saved the day and vowed to follow their footsteps and
contribute great feats. After we got older, we honored the vows and advanced society, bettered
lives, and left our mark on the world due to everyday courage. It seems only fitting that we take a
moment to define courage, as courage is more than a superhero. An act of courage is an act that is
risky, but pursued regardless, to fulfill noble intentions. Furthermore, a true act of courage will
satisfy six criteria.
One criterion for courage is the fact that it must involve risk. Assume that a Sea Bear, who loves to
eat sponge cake, thinks SpongeBob Squarepants looks just like yellow cake and has kidnapped
SpongeBob s pet snail Gary! Unarmed, SpongeBob, the little yellow sponge of the sea, treks up
a sea hill to the Bear s cave. The Sea Bear greets SpongeBob with a loud ROAR. Unmoving with
fright, he blinks three times and starts...tickling the bear. Remarkably, his tickle tactic is
successful, and the bear rolls on the floor laughing. Seizing the moment, SpongeBob grabs Gary
and runs away. In this scenario, SpongeBob is courageous, because he acts even though there is a
significant chance the bear will eat SpongeBob. However, if Gary slithered out to the porch and
SpongeBob took him back inside, it is not courageous since it does not involve risk.
Other than involving risk, an actor needs

The Sports Of An Athletic Games
The hosting of an athletic games is a mammoth task that requires in depth planning and huge
amounts of labor. In modern times, and arguably more so in Ancient Greece, sports must be viewed
as the intersection of many eclectic parts of society. While running an athletic event on this scale,
we can break the planning chronologically into three main categories that will determine success:
attracting an audience, the actual logistics of the game, and judging and the distribution of prizes.
Each of these topics has many facets which must all be taken into consideration for our games to
successfully attract people and sustain the popularity of the sanctuary and its God.
Attracting large audiences is the crux of putting on a successful games. To do this, we must
acknowledge one very crucial fact about sports in Ancient Greece it is a result of, maybe even an
extension of, religion. Therefore, if we are to host a successful event, we must first create a strong
religious element to our sanctuary. For this I would suggest the creation of an oracle at our
sanctuary. Oracles, such as the Pythia at Delphi, provide a steady influx of people while also
increasing the popularity of the God with each prophecy (Jones). This will feed directly into the
popularity of our event. Religious fervor could be further augmented by the creation of a large
monument of some kind. Just like the gold and ivory statue of Zeus at Olympia which drew in large
crowds, our idol would serve as an

Basis Of International Trade Essay
International trade is historically the oldest and most widespread form of external economic
relations. It is a movement of goods that represents a foreign exchange, that is, goods cross the
boundaries of the individual countries or economic unit. Foreign trade links the country s internal
economy with the world economy and fulfills important functions in the process of developing the
productive forces and international division of labor. (Markusen, 1995)
The basis of foreign trade is the realization of imports and exports of goods and services between
the domestic economy and other countries. The theoretical basis of foreign trade policy consists
of individual theories of foreign trade, which have been formed since the 18th century. These
theories were protectionist or liberal, depending on the objectives and the tools used. Each state
has its own foreign trade policy. Foreign trade policy to be defined as a set of principles and
measures undertaken by the state in the field of foreign trade using trade policy instruments.
(Markusen, 1995)
The history of foreign trade relations in the world economy is linked to a dispute between the two
basic ties of trade policy. The first type is protectionism, whose supporters maintain a protectionist
approach and try to enforce trade barriers to foreign competition. The second type is liberalism,
whose supporters advocate free trade. (Reuvid Sherlock, 2004)
Free trade is defined as a system, where goods or services flows across the

Human Story In Life Of Pi
Have you ever been stranded in the middle of the ocean with a 450 pound adult bengal tiger? Well
according to Pi Patel he has and survived nearly 300 days in that predicament. In the book Life of
Pi, Yann Martel s character Piscine Molitor Pi Patel survives a shipwreck and ends up on a lifeboat
with a variety of animals one of which being a bengal tiger. The story starts out with Pi telling the
author he can make him believe in God with his story. Throughout the story Pi tells a great tale
of his experiences on the lifeboat with the tiger but the only thing is that s exactly what it is, a
tale. The real story comes at the end of the book when two Japanese men question Pi about the
sinking of the Tsimtsum and Pi tells a different story because the men did not believe the animal
one. The second story has humans instead of animals therefore making it the more reasonable
story. So the human story is real because it is the more feasible option, being alone for a very
extended amount of time can cause a person to lose their sanity, and some of the things that Pi
mentioned were a little far fetched.
The human story is the all around most reasonable story obviously. There is no way that Pi
could survive nearly 300 days with such a big predator. Also being on a lifeboat with very limited
resources it is clear that a bengal tiger would take advantage of Pi being there and kill him. Like
stated in the book animals do not think about what they are doing, I don t think about it.

Juvenile Rights Of Juveniles
The Rights of juveniles Juveniles also have rights that look out for their best interest. According
to, Delinquency and Juvenile Justice in American Society, Sheldon provides the rights that
juveniles are granted. The supreme court ruled that when a judge considers whether to transfer a
case from juvenile court to an adult court, a juvenile is entitled to a hearing and has the right to
counsel. The court must provide a written statement giving the reasons for the waiver, and the
defense counsel must be given access to all records and reports used in reaching the decision to
waive. Often times juveniles rights are waived or broken due to lack of proper legal
representation. (Sheldon, 2006) In the case of Gault, they argued that the juvenile code of Arizona
was unconstitutional: The justices found in favor of Gault include (1) adequate written notice of
charges, (2) the right to counsel, (3) privilege against self incrimination, (4) the right to cross
examine accusers, (5) a transcript of the proceedings, and (6) the right to appellate review. (Gault,
2002) Nevertheless, more recent studies indicates that the system today has failed to deliver the
procedural justice promised by gault. For example, misconduct which includes forcing unprepared
parties to proceed with trial or a guilty plea, interrupting the lawyers witness examinations with their
own questions, and cutting off lawyers questioning. It was also revealed , two thirds of the

Summary Of This Is Water By David Foster Wallace
There have two pieces of the article I recently read about, which is This is water by David Foster
Wallace, and Letter to a young poet by Rainer Maria Rilke. I will be discussing the contrast
between this two article and tell the audience what they were precisely thinking about life. For
Wallace, he passed commencement speech to share the advice to people who hear at a college
graduation. In his speech, he delivered the reality of how a typical adult life goes. His statement
also talked about decision making, and how all choices will impact our future growth. On the
other hand, Rilke conveys his ideas by wrote the letter to one military student who called
Kappus. In Rilke s letters, I mostly focus on letter eight, because he pays attention to solitude
and how it is essential to be a real artist. There is only through solitude that he will learn personal
truths and he told Kappus to need to trust own feelings and to face what is difficult. Ralike
talked about solitude in letter eight. As I grow older, I gradually understand that everything is
not going smoothly, it is hard. There have many things you cannot be avoided, such as solitude.
Nowadays, solitude already become a regular phenomenon in our daily life, for example, when I
walk on the street, I always saw a person walk alone, eats alone, go shopping alone, or even goes
to concerts alone. As Rilke said, Solitude it always becomes clearer that this is at the bottom, not

a beverage vending machine that would not take my money.
Too bad, as the water I brought was now warm. Another trail went up to the summit. It was

significant problems and developing a treatment plan to help the client with these maladaptive
behaviors. Next, identify strengths of the client, family, or support staff which to build effective
strategies with. Then, identify problems and plan interventions for them (coping strategies and
tools). Interventions will most likely be implemented for a long period of time. Treatment will
include supervision and monitoring as a component. Cognitive behavioral therapy will be utilized to
help modify progress over an extended period of time. Family members are an vital part of a
successful Treatment Team; refining their parenting skills through training can be advantageous to
the client. The family will need to assume some responsibilities for monitoring the client s
behaviors. The vast majority of youth with conduct disorder do not carry them into adult life and
most adolescents are responsive to treatment.

Dallas, Texas On The Trinity River
The city that I have chosen for my report is Dallas, Texas. Dallas is located in north central Texas
on the Trinity River. I have chosen this city because I am from the north Texas area and will
hopefully have a great job waiting for me in the Dallas area one day. I am also a huge Dallas
sports fan, and I can t wait until the new season starts. Many interesting things have happened in
Dallas over the life of the city. Some famous TV shows were filmed in Dallas, Texaslike Prison
Break and Dallas. The episode of the TV show Dallas is famous for the episode titled Who Done
It which remains the second highest prime time telecast ever. Dallas is also the home to the first

Mall in Dallas is home to the tallest Christmas tree. It has almost 250,000 lights and over 10,000
ornaments on it each year. Dallas is also the place where President John F. Kennedy was shot. City

Biological Diversity And Its Effects On Our Environment
Humanity has proven ourselves to be capable of incredible feats, some which may benefit the
lives of our communities, our industry, and our understanding of the world as we know it.
Others can bring great harm to ourselves or to the planet that we live on. There comes a time
when we must recognize how we impact our surroundings, and to ask ourselves how far we are
willing to go. Choices that we have made as a species have put the lives of some of Earth s most
ancient and diverse communities in danger. While only a small fraction of the creatures living
under the sea have been discovered and recorded, the past half a century has shown us the our
mistreatment of our environment has threatened the intricate systems of the ocean s... Show more

This is currently one of the most quickly changing factors which is destroying the biodiversity of
our oceans, which is why it is vital that we recognize it. In order to further define ocean
acidification, what it means to biodiversity, and how we can solve it, we must first explore it s
causes. With humanity s growing need for faster, automatic, and more efficient tools and systems,
it becomes visible that these short term solutions can result in long term problems. During the
Industrial Revolution which spread around the world, the mindset that the planet s resources are
ours for the harvesting was largely accepted. Without proper knowledge of the long term effects
of taking materials from the planet, dumping unsanitized and toxic chemical mixtures into
bodies of water, among other things humanity as a whole failed to preserve ecosystems of every
kind. The result was the use of resources despite the effect it had on wildlife communities and
ecosystems, as well as a lack of regulation which would soon cause problems for the government,
corporations, individuals, and the planet. In 2007, CNN reported that up to 500 million tons of
heavy metals, solvents and toxic sludge slip into the global water supply every year. In the

It is estimated that 6.3 million children suffer from asthma. It is the leading cause of school
absenteeism. Asthma is caused by an inflammation of the airways. A variety of symptoms including
shortness of breath, wheezing and possibly death may occur during an acute attack. An asthma
attack can be triggered by multiple sources such as allergies, exercise, hot or cold weather, odors
and smoke. Because of the unpredictable nature of asthma, emergency medications must be
available to the child at all times. Asthma medications reduce the inflammatory process thereby,
improving breathing. A young asthmatic must be taught to take asthma seriously, and tell an adult

Most test only require a few minutes to maybe 2 hours of your time. Here is a list of some
important tests that you may want to talk to your doctor about. MAMMOGRAM: It is
suggested that every woman has a mammogram done once every two to three years after age 40.
A mammogram used a low dose x ray to find early signs of breast cancer and other diseases of the
breasts. A mammogram can discover changes in your breast as early as two years before the
patient or physician is able to feel them. Any woman who has had breast cancer or who is at a
high risk of getting it should probably have a mammogram more often. PAP SMEAR: This one
is recommended every one to three years for any woman who is sexually active or is over the
age of 21. A PAP smear is simply a test in which the nurse removes a small sample of the skin
cells from the inside of the cervix. The skin cells are tested for any signs of precancerous disease
or any abnormalities. CHOLESTEROL: This test should be done every one to five years in
healthy adults, those who already have heart disease or other cardiac issues will probably have
these tests done routinely. A cholesterol test (or screening) is a grouping to tests that check your
cholesterol and lipid levels in the blood. It is done with a simple blood sample taken in your
physician s office or hospital lab. High cholesterol is associated with hardening of the arteries,
which causes heart disease and even heart attacks. BLOOD PRESSURE: You should have your
blood pressure checked every two years at the very least. There are record numbers of people
with high blood pressure in the United States. High blood pressure has been associated many life
threatening conditions, including kidney disease and heart disease. COLORECTAL CANCER

The research initially included 301 pregnant woman randomized, but had exempted data from 10

A New Event Planner Entrepreneur, And New Computer...
Introduction In a previous project, I identified three top trends in my profession and delivered the
information in an annotated bibliography. As a new event planner entrepreneur, I conducted
research on what s trending in the event planning industry and my top trends were creativity, event
driven marketing(EDM), and new computer technology. An extension of the project required an
archive based qualitative approach to one of the trends. I chose to conduct research on EDM
based on the following factors: 1) EDM presented a distinct approach to direct marketing and
traditional database marketing which typically use statistical data. 2) Several resources provided
the most dynamic, measurable information and varying utilization in multiple industries. 3) The
results from implementing EDM presented a positive effect on key performance indicators. EDM
is a discipline within marketing where companies aim to access identifiable changes in a

event is defined as a detectable change in an individual s circumstances, that is relevant and

This ad violates social and cultural norms by replacing beautiful women who normally would
advertise cars with sumo wrestlers, a reference to the origin of the cars manufacturer. In an article
published in Motor Authority it was quoted that Unlike the bikini wearing models in other ads, you
re not left wondering where the car is...If anything your eyes seek out the [car], if only for aesthetic
relief. (Lienert 2011)
In this advertisement Subaru Canada is also portraying a sense of Japanese pride. Sumo wrestlers
are honored in Japan and by replacing a Canadian or American supermodel with a symbol of
Japanese pride, the sumo wrestler. This connects viewers with the pride of a Japanese manufactured
car that the ad is trying to sell.
What else is the ad selling?
Subaru Canada is selling a new type of car advertisement which shows deviance to societal norms
by changing the image of what people think is sexy. Sex sells is a long standing phrase that can be
used to define the advertising industry and before this commercial was released many
manufacturers marketed sexy car advertisements using Sports Illustrated swimsuit models or
models of a similar stature. Subaru in lieu of the sexy bikini models has chosen to express their
individuality by chosen a cultural representation to poke fun at traditional advertising. Subaru takes

Essay Comparing The Pearl And Huckleberry Finn
Once someone can be extracted out of their society and placed into a world that is new and
uncertain, the time arrives when they find out who they are going to become. For the characters,
their life began the moment that they were pushed out of their comfort zone into a world that was
fully part of the wilderness. The wilderness is the place where all the characters escape the
rigorous rules and regulations of the society in which they were created to protect. For Hester and
Pearl, the wilderness, especially the forest is the place where the truth is set free and their sin is
just a measly letter A. For Huck and Jim, the same outcome happens in the wilderness; Huck finds
out the worth of Jim. Throughout both novels, it is evident that the wilderness represents a place of
danger and unknowingness. The ones who are lucky enough to uncover this wilderness can fully

novels can be free from the pressure and socialization processes of society into finding who they
were made to be.
In the wilderness, Hester, Pearl, Huck, and Jim were respected and recognized as human beings
compared to being in society. Hester respected Pearl and valued her as a person unlike the
community with their views. The society saw Pearl as an elf child who was not fit to live under
Hester s rule anymore and was dirtied with her mother s sin. Hawthorne illustrates, Without

i)Organizational Change
Change is troublesome for an establishment and for its delegates. There is mistrust about what s to
come, about what the acquaintanceship will look like, and how the delegates feel they will fit into
the new structure. While a couple of individuals handle change, most basically recognize it. There
are those, on the other hand, who decrease to change. The following rejection of accommodating

by the old adage, most people don t like any change that does not jingle in their pockets. The normal

Plato s The Socratic Method
Plato wrote nearly 30 dialogues, most of which focused on his predecessor, Socrates. His earlier
works focused on Socrates Theories, or the Socratic method, while his later works focused on his
own laws and Xenophon s Hiero. Some of Plato s dialogues include the Meno, Symposium,
Republic, and the Phaedo. The Socratic method is a form of inquiry and discussion between
individuals based on asking and answering questions to stimulate critical thinking and to generate
ideas. This paper is going to focus on a few of Platos earlier works and how they incorporate the
Socratic method, versus his later works that seem to go in a different direction all together. First, it
is important to understand that the Socratic method is a dialectical method that often involves
discussion between people in which one person questions the defense of a point of view; many
times the person defending his point of view may contradict himself, which gives the opposition a
stronger defense. For example, Socrateswould use a simple question to begin many of his
teachings, such as Is the pious loved by the gods because it is pious, or is it pious because it is
loved by the gods? As an alternative example, are actions right, or wrong, based only on the
authority s approval of said actions? Socrates used this method many times to secure his point of
view. Although Socrates wrote nothing down, therefore not allowing us to truly study his point of
views or his teachings, we can assume that most of

Bismarck s Influence On The German Empire Essay
Section 2. Investigation
Bismarck, to many historians, was known for his ability to manipulate the Prussian government,
and alliances with other nations to achieve his goal to create the German Empire with the Prussian
Kaiser as its leader. Through his idea of Realpolitik, to do whatever deemed necessary to reach a
goal, Bismarck manipulated the different parts of the Prussian government and the Foreign policy
to unite the German States under the leadership of Prussia s Kaiser. The problem with Bismarck
using Realpolitik is that he could have used illegal methods or methods that exceeded his authority
as Prime Minister. Bismarck used methods that exceeded his given authority as Prime Minister,
from 1862 1871, to a small extent. The Kaiser had given Bismarck power that exceeded that
normally given to a Prime Minister, but through the expansion of powers of Prime Minister before
he entered office, many of Bismarck s actions were found to be within his authority.
Bismarck followed his policy of Realpolitik to no ends, willing to exceed his given authority as
Prime Minister. One of the illegal actions that Bismarck executed was for the Prussian military
budget. When Bismarck first gained the title of Prime Minister, his first task was to pass the
military budget that the Kaiser requested in the 1862 budget. The Reichstag had power over
making decisions over foreign, and federal policies, laws, and the military itself. The Parliament,
although not given the sole power for

extremely good understanding of what the clients want. I will have to fully listen to all of the client

polls showing more than half the country is in favor of legalizing marijuana. The Drug Policy
Alliance (DPA) believes marijuana should be removed from the criminal justice system and
regulated like alcohol and tobacco.
What s going on? The drug war is responsible for hundreds of billions of wasted taxes dollars and
misallocated government spending, as well as devastating human costs that far outweigh the
damage caused by drugs alone. The United States unrivaled incarceration rate is a constant financial
drain, causing an immeasurable loss in workforce productivity, and puts a strain on scant legal and

demand for illegal drugs through prohibition, treatment consistently proves to be a more effective,
cheaper and more humane way to lower the demand for illegal drugs.

Failures Of Indira Gandhi
Week Ten: This weeks analysis on Indira Gandhi helped me unpack her successes and failures.
Some of the major failures that my group talked about was the forced sterilization, state of
emergency, religious divide, censorship and corruption. The mass forced sterilization was ultimate
failure in my eyes and as I talked about prior a major human rights violation. Interestingly, Indira
Gandhi had no gender policy during her reign. One would think that a women politician would
want to address so many of the problems that plague women on a daily basis. If I was a women in
Indiaduring the time where Indira Gandhi came to power, I would have been devastated that she
was not interested in improving women s rights. Indira also reinforced the religious divide within
India, especially for the Sikhs. She ended up exacerbating tensions in the region, which ultimately
lead to her demise.
While she did have a lot of failures, this weeks class helped bring to light some of her successes
as well. Prior to this class I only really thought of her failures and even during class my group had
a hard time coming up with anything. I think her lack of credentials and her short sidedness made
her ill prepared to be a ruler. Throughout this class I began to admire Nehru and his leadership of
India; however, with Indira I felt myself being angry and disappointed with her ruling style.
Rajiv Gandhi s rise to power was even more abrupt than his mothers. He was even less qualified
than his

Although women can be perpetrators, they are more often the victims of abuse than men.
According to Blair, McFarlane, Nava, Gilroy, and Maddoux (2015), 92 percent of domestic
violence offenders are male (p. 23). Domestic violence perpetrators that become involved in the
criminal justice system are overwhelmingly male offenders between the ages of 18 and 35 years
old. Data from studies conducted in the United States have revealed that a significant amount of
male abusers have had some type of previous contact with the criminal justice system. It should be
noted that this contact includes positive and negative encounters. Since abusers come from all
walks of life, they can be respected law abiding members of their communities or unpopular
individuals with a criminal history. There are no set standards or explicit personality traits that
wholly identify abusers. However, researchers have identified certain indicators and risk factors
that may predispose one to become an abuser (U.S. Department of Justice, 2009).
One dominant attribute of domestic violence is the rate of recurrence for substance use or abuse in
domestic violence incidents. Researchers have determined that there is an extremely high
correlation between the use of these substances and domestic assaults. Research endorsed by the
National Institute of Justice has established that

  • 2. The Perceptions Of Black Males The Perceptions of Black Males in College Kwesi N. Luke Liberty University Abstract African American males in higher education have captured the attention of researchers; sadly, exhausted amount of research has focused primarily on the failing black male, while little has been done to address the problem. This paper focuses on factors that influence the perceptions and self esteem of African Americanmales in higher education, and explore why their educational achievements are overwhelmingly lower than any other racial/ethnic group. Specifically, this review focuses on how research in education or the lack thereof has contributed to this particular issue. The review of literature in this paper leads to two research questions: (1) What efforts if any have been directed to address the negative outcomes of black males in higher education? (2) What other external factors have prevented black males from achieving their objectives at a lower rate than any other racial or ethnic group? The following 10 reviews attempt to answer the above questions. Keywords: Black males in higher education, failing black males, Education attainment among black men, Scholarly journals on black men in education, why black men fail, external factors affecting black males in education. • 3. Dreams Deferred Langston Hughes Analysis In the poem Dreams Deferred by Langston Hughes, similes are used immensely throughout the poem. He relates each simile back to the first line of the poem, What happens to a dream deferred? Hughes scrutinizes the possible effects caused by a dream being deferred by his usage of similes and a metaphor. The first simile Hughes writes is in line three, Does it dry up/like a raisin in the sun. One may picture a grape, once succulent and full of life, now shriveled up and lifeless. Hughes wants to create this image to prove that dreams get smaller over time, but they never disappear. In line four, a second simile is used, Or fester like a sore . Readers automatically think of an oozing sore when they read this line. Sores fester when ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. A Modest Proposal, By Aldous Huxley And Jonathan Swift Aldous Huxley and Jonathan Swift both have a different way of bringing society s attention to the real problems of the world. Both authors utilize the New Historicism lense as an influence to each of their pieces of literature. From 1729 to 1932, there were plenty of historical conflicts that could help each author make society want to change the current problems that they were facing. Huxley satirizes the sexual freedom and moral decay of the Roaring 20s in Brave New Worldand Swift satirizes the rising problem of overpopulation in Ireland in his short story, A Modest Proposal . A popular theory by Thomas Malthus on overpopulation could have been influenced by Swift s short story and Huxley might have used it to contribute to his novel.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Both pieces of literature use satire to raise awareness of the conflicts and to make society question or feel the need to change the current problems. Thomas Malthus, a scholar that was born about thirty years following the great Irish famine discovered a famous population theory. In general, he stated in his theory that the population of a country will always be greater than the amount of sources it can produce, like food. It is possible that he came up with his population theory after studying all of the potential factors in the Irish famine. Overpopulation was one of the main contributors to the famine. In Brave New World, the characters use Malthusian belts which held contraceptives like birth control and condoms. These belts that the men and women of this book wore were used to control overpopulation, which was the exact conflict that Jonathan Swift was trying to resolve in his short story, A Modest ... • 5. Life Changing Experience In Life For many, a life changing moment comes in the form of a tragedy or a hard earned revelation. Mine came in the form of a five year old girl named Sofia. Sofia spent most of her time in the oncology ward of the hospital where I volunteered. Her days consisted of sterile hospital rooms, scans, and chemotherapy. She was losing her hair because of chemo when most girls her age were learning how to braid theirs. She played with a doll (Mr. Buttons) in her hospital room instead of playing with other children. Sofia wasn t lonely in the traditional sense. Family, friends, and even strangers visited the little girl, but could barely interact with her. Most of the time, she was too tired to play and, when she finally mustered the energy, she found herself behind a glass panel. The doctors thought it best to keep Sofia isolated, to minimize her chances of falling ill in her already feeble condition. And, indeed, this is how I interacted with Sofia for a month. Week after week, hour after hour, I d go to the glass wall to see if she had awoken and would spend an hour that felt like seconds, playing with her. I suppose that s relativity for you. Sofia was both the highlight and heartbreak of my week. Comments like, Poor thing and It s just not fair were heard as often as the incessant beeping of the monitors. Talk is cheap, and pity doesn t make progress. I had to do something. It is very rare to come across an opportunity to make a fundamental change in the lives of thousands. I ... • 6. Compare And Contrast Bud Light And Coor Light There are many light beers out there in today s market that have their very own unique taste and exquisite way to advertise their product. Within the light beer market the two well known beers are Bud Light, and Coors Light. Bud Light advertising appeals more to being a very social and party intended beer, Whereas Coors Lighttakes more of a traditional stance. Bud Lighton the other hand advertise towards today society by giving us a summertime feeling with the cruise ship and the group of people drinking while having a live band. Coors Light keeps a traditional look as being winter time, with the Rocky Mountains, and bold letters that says, GIVE HEAT THE COLD SHOULDER. I myself find I m more drawn into the Bud Light advertisement because of the season it s representing, the color, and even the social event that s going on. Both Bud Light and Coors Light make excellence light beers, but an appropriate choice depends on the beer drinker taste, finances, and household accommodations. In the Bud Light advertisement the colors is the main thing you notice. Its many different shades of blue with a hint of white which gives off a warm feeling almost like summertime. Bud Light stays true to their colors whether it is in magazine to even their web page. The colors remain blue like their cans and bottles. • 7. Similarities Between The Sun Also Rises And The Great Gatsby The American Dream is something that we as a working class are encouraged to strive for because it is viewed as the epitome of being successful. Our two novels, The Sun Also Rises by Ernest Hemingway and The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald, are both set during a time Gertrude Stein refers to as a lost generation . Happening during WWI, the Roaring 20 s became infamous for its lavish lifestyles and careless ways due to the ongoing war. However, eventually the line between happiness and wealth starts to blur as people mistakenly try to buy their contentment instead of just expressing how they feel. Therefore, our characters from the two novels hide behind the partying and the drinking in order to conceal their true problems. Money has become... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Oh, Jake, Brett said, we could have had such a damned good time together. ... Yes, I said. Isn t it pretty to think so? (Hemingway 247), showing how even after what they ve gone through they still end up in each other s arms. Whether or not the characters get a chance at happiness is unclear, but the readers can assume that there seems to be little hope for our characters at the very end. Brett asks Jake to not get drunk, and for the first time we get to see her change of attitude towards alcohol especially after she had been drunk the entire time. This shows that a little part of Brett wants to change, but then she also says, I m going back to Mike...He s so damned nice and he s so awful. He s my sort of thing. The Republican and Democratic party make up the two most popular parties in the United States, with 53% of Americans identifying with one or the other party (Gallup, Party Affiliation ). While most Americans know that the majority of their fellow citizens eventually will identify as either a Republican or a Democrat, the overall process of party selection and identification is not as clear. Although the book was not published too long ago, the fact that it was published in 2008 makes it unable to account the changes that have come about in the United States that have made it easier for young adults to become more involved in politics. Lewis Beck notes that few young adults express a strong party attachment, whereas those with a lifetime of experience do (145). While young adults may not have as high of a voter turnout as older generations, this is not necessarily the only way to measure the political activity of a cohort. In the movie Gamer, characters deal with a never ending cycle of competition and become trapped in conflict. Superficial worlds collide with reality and these worlds impact every citizen in the film. A viewer watching the film may feel disgusted at the thought of being controlled as easily as characters in Gamer are, but the sad truth lies within the reality of our own, mediated world. Gamer plays on viewers pre conceived beliefs mediation causes. The common beliefs of competition making the world spin around and money buying happiness, trap us as citizens in a vicious cycle of conflict with the world around us. Gamer takes place in a near future New York City where a twisted man named Ken Castle invents a method to controlpeoples minds. Castle has developed a nano cell that replicates itself when placed on human brain cells and eventually takes over a subject,s whole mind. Castle also created two virtual worlds where citizens hire other citizens to implant nano cells and give up control of their minds. The paying citizens then obtain complete control over their employee . Society, comparable to The Sims of our world, allows for control in all aspects of life. Therefore, the changing characteristics and the growth of the Texas population are the major causes of the transportation problem (Gravel, 2016). While it was not a major issue in the just concluded campaigns, the future of Texas infrastructure did receive attention in the two major Texas political parties (Republican and Democratic). However, the political parties reveal differing positions and philosophies on ways of tackling the issue. To be specific, the Democrats believe that infrastructure is important to the future economic prosperity (LePatner, 2010). Further, the party argues that broadband networks, schools, water systems, and energy are some of the infrastructures that are readily ripe for investment. As such, the party hopes that investments in such fields may help address other related issues such as unemployment too. Sadly, the Democratic Party does not mention how additional funding would be injected in infrastructure. Instead, the members weigh in on some tools that may be vital in helping Texas to fund infrastructure projects (Schiller, Bruun, Kenworthy, 2010). • 12. Persuasive Essay About Courage As children, we were all mesmerized by the bravery of the superheroes on television. Wide eyed, we heard the cheers of the town as they saved the day and vowed to follow their footsteps and contribute great feats. After we got older, we honored the vows and advanced society, bettered lives, and left our mark on the world due to everyday courage. It seems only fitting that we take a moment to define courage, as courage is more than a superhero. An act of courage is an act that is risky, but pursued regardless, to fulfill noble intentions. Furthermore, a true act of courage will satisfy six criteria. One criterion for courage is the fact that it must involve risk. Assume that a Sea Bear, who loves to eat sponge cake, thinks SpongeBob Squarepants looks just like yellow cake and has kidnapped SpongeBob s pet snail Gary! Unarmed, SpongeBob, the little yellow sponge of the sea, treks up a sea hill to the Bear s cave. The Sea Bear greets SpongeBob with a loud ROAR. Unmoving with fright, he blinks three times and starts...tickling the bear. Remarkably, his tickle tactic is successful, and the bear rolls on the floor laughing. Seizing the moment, SpongeBob grabs Gary and runs away. In this scenario, SpongeBob is courageous, because he acts even though there is a significant chance the bear will eat SpongeBob. However, if Gary slithered out to the porch and SpongeBob took him back inside, it is not courageous since it does not involve risk. Other than involving risk, an actor needs ... • 14. The Sports Of An Athletic Games The hosting of an athletic games is a mammoth task that requires in depth planning and huge amounts of labor. In modern times, and arguably more so in Ancient Greece, sports must be viewed as the intersection of many eclectic parts of society. While running an athletic event on this scale, we can break the planning chronologically into three main categories that will determine success: attracting an audience, the actual logistics of the game, and judging and the distribution of prizes. Each of these topics has many facets which must all be taken into consideration for our games to successfully attract people and sustain the popularity of the sanctuary and its God. Attracting large audiences is the crux of putting on a successful games. To do this, we must acknowledge one very crucial fact about sports in Ancient Greece it is a result of, maybe even an extension of, religion. Therefore, if we are to host a successful event, we must first create a strong religious element to our sanctuary. For this I would suggest the creation of an oracle at our sanctuary. Oracles, such as the Pythia at Delphi, provide a steady influx of people while also increasing the popularity of the God with each prophecy (Jones). This will feed directly into the popularity of our event. Religious fervor could be further augmented by the creation of a large monument of some kind. Just like the gold and ivory statue of Zeus at Olympia which drew in large crowds, our idol would serve as an ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 17. Basis Of International Trade Essay International trade is historically the oldest and most widespread form of external economic relations. It is a movement of goods that represents a foreign exchange, that is, goods cross the boundaries of the individual countries or economic unit. Foreign trade links the country s internal economy with the world economy and fulfills important functions in the process of developing the productive forces and international division of labor. (Markusen, 1995) The basis of foreign trade is the realization of imports and exports of goods and services between the domestic economy and other countries. The theoretical basis of foreign trade policy consists of individual theories of foreign trade, which have been formed since the 18th century. These theories were protectionist or liberal, depending on the objectives and the tools used. Each state has its own foreign trade policy. Foreign trade policy to be defined as a set of principles and measures undertaken by the state in the field of foreign trade using trade policy instruments. (Markusen, 1995) The history of foreign trade relations in the world economy is linked to a dispute between the two basic ties of trade policy. The first type is protectionism, whose supporters maintain a protectionist approach and try to enforce trade barriers to foreign competition. The second type is liberalism, whose supporters advocate free trade. (Reuvid Sherlock, 2004) Free trade is defined as a system, where goods or services flows across the ... Well according to Pi Patel he has and survived nearly 300 days in that predicament. In the book Life of Pi, Yann Martel s character Piscine Molitor Pi Patel survives a shipwreck and ends up on a lifeboat with a variety of animals one of which being a bengal tiger. The story starts out with Pi telling the author he can make him believe in God with his story. Throughout the story Pi tells a great tale of his experiences on the lifeboat with the tiger but the only thing is that s exactly what it is, a tale. The real story comes at the end of the book when two Japanese men question Pi about the sinking of the Tsimtsum and Pi tells a different story because the men did not believe the animal one. The second story has humans instead of animals therefore making it the more reasonable story. So the human story is real because it is the more feasible option, being alone for a very extended amount of time can cause a person to lose their sanity, and some of the things that Pi mentioned were a little far fetched. The human story is the all around most reasonable story obviously. There is no way that Pi could survive nearly 300 days with such a big predator. Also being on a lifeboat with very limited resources it is clear that a bengal tiger would take advantage of Pi being there and kill him. According to, Delinquency and Juvenile Justice in American Society, Sheldon provides the rights that juveniles are granted. The supreme court ruled that when a judge considers whether to transfer a case from juvenile court to an adult court, a juvenile is entitled to a hearing and has the right to counsel. The court must provide a written statement giving the reasons for the waiver, and the defense counsel must be given access to all records and reports used in reaching the decision to waive. Often times juveniles rights are waived or broken due to lack of proper legal representation. (Sheldon, 2006) In the case of Gault, they argued that the juvenile code of Arizona was unconstitutional: The justices found in favor of Gault include (1) adequate written notice of charges, (2) the right to counsel, (3) privilege against self incrimination, (4) the right to cross examine accusers, (5) a transcript of the proceedings, and (6) the right to appellate review. (Gault, 2002) Nevertheless, more recent studies indicates that the system today has failed to deliver the procedural justice promised by gault. • 20. Summary Of This Is Water By David Foster Wallace There have two pieces of the article I recently read about, which is This is water by David Foster Wallace, and Letter to a young poet by Rainer Maria Rilke. I will be discussing the contrast between this two article and tell the audience what they were precisely thinking about life. For Wallace, he passed commencement speech to share the advice to people who hear at a college graduation. In his speech, he delivered the reality of how a typical adult life goes. His statement also talked about decision making, and how all choices will impact our future growth. On the other hand, Rilke conveys his ideas by wrote the letter to one military student who called Kappus. In Rilke s letters, I mostly focus on letter eight, because he pays attention to solitude and how it is essential to be a real artist. There is only through solitude that he will learn personal truths and he told Kappus to need to trust own feelings and to face what is difficult. Ralike talked about solitude in letter eight. As I grow older, I gradually understand that everything is not going smoothly, it is hard. There have many things you cannot be avoided, such as solitude. Nowadays, solitude already become a regular phenomenon in our daily life, for example, when I walk on the street, I always saw a person walk alone, eats alone, go shopping alone, or even goes to concerts alone. • 31. A New Event Planner Entrepreneur, And New Computer... Introduction In a previous project, I identified three top trends in my profession and delivered the information in an annotated bibliography. As a new event planner entrepreneur, I conducted research on what s trending in the event planning industry and my top trends were creativity, event driven marketing(EDM), and new computer technology. An extension of the project required an archive based qualitative approach to one of the trends. I chose to conduct research on EDM based on the following factors: 1) EDM presented a distinct approach to direct marketing and traditional database marketing which typically use statistical data. 2) Several resources provided the most dynamic, measurable information and varying utilization in multiple industries. 3) The results from implementing EDM presented a positive effect on key performance indicators. EDM is a discipline within marketing where companies aim to access identifiable changes in a customer s individual needs. In this context and described by Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia, an event is defined as a detectable change in an individual s circumstances, that is relevant and significant, either in fact or in their mind. A significant event is a major occurrence in a customer s life. EDM is also synonymous with event based marketing (EBM) and Trigger based marketing. The wilderness is the place where all the characters escape the rigorous rules and regulations of the society in which they were created to protect. • 38. Plato s The Socratic Method Plato wrote nearly 30 dialogues, most of which focused on his predecessor, Socrates. His earlier works focused on Socrates Theories, or the Socratic method, while his later works focused on his own laws and Xenophon s Hiero. Some of Plato s dialogues include the Meno, Symposium, Republic, and the Phaedo. The Socratic method is a form of inquiry and discussion between individuals based on asking and answering questions to stimulate critical thinking and to generate ideas. This paper is going to focus on a few of Platos earlier works and how they incorporate the Socratic method, versus his later works that seem to go in a different direction all together. First, it is important to understand that the Socratic method is a dialectical method that often involves discussion between people in which one person questions the defense of a point of view; many times the person defending his point of view may contradict himself, which gives the opposition a stronger defense. For example, Socrateswould use a simple question to begin many of his teachings, such as Is the pious loved by the gods because it is pious, or is it pious because it is loved by the gods? As an alternative example, are actions right, or wrong, based only on the authority s approval of said actions? Socrates used this method many times to secure his point of view. Although Socrates wrote nothing down, therefore not allowing us to truly study his point of views or his teachings, we can assume that most of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 39. Bismarck s Influence On The German Empire Essay Section 2. Investigation Bismarck, to many historians, was known for his ability to manipulate the Prussian government, and alliances with other nations to achieve his goal to create the German Empire with the Prussian Kaiser as its leader. Through his idea of Realpolitik, to do whatever deemed necessary to reach a goal, Bismarck manipulated the different parts of the Prussian government and the Foreign policy to unite the German States under the leadership of Prussia s Kaiser. The problem with Bismarck using Realpolitik is that he could have used illegal methods or methods that exceeded his authority as Prime Minister. Bismarck used methods that exceeded his given authority as Prime Minister, from 1862 1871, to a small extent. The Kaiser had given Bismarck power that exceeded that normally given to a Prime Minister, but through the expansion of powers of Prime Minister before he entered office, many of Bismarck s actions were found to be within his authority. Bismarck followed his policy of Realpolitik to no ends, willing to exceed his given authority as Prime Minister. One of the illegal actions that Bismarck executed was for the Prussian military budget. When Bismarck first gained the title of Prime Minister, his first task was to pass the military budget that the Kaiser requested in the 1862 budget. The Reichstag had power over making decisions over foreign, and federal policies, laws, and the military itself. The Parliament, although not given the sole power for ... Some of the major failures that my group talked about was the forced sterilization, state of emergency, religious divide, censorship and corruption.
