Vampire Bat
The vampire bat also comes from a Subfamily called desmodontinae. There are
three different types of bat species: The common vampire bat, hairy legged vampire
bat and white winged vampire bat. These three different species are mostly native to
the New World, but can be found in parts of Mexico and Brazil, Chile and Argentina.
Their main source of food is blood. Instead of sucking the blood to feed on they
make a small cut with their teeth and then lick up the blood from the fresh wound.
While feeding, they can feed for up to 30 minutes without waking the animal they are
feeding on up.
They have a short muzzle and instead of a nose leaf, they have exposed (or naked)
pads with u shaped grooves at the tip of the nose. The common vampire bat has
thermoreceptors that help the bat to locate areas where the blood flows close in it s
prey. Vampire bats have small ears and very short tail. The front teeth of a vampire bat
are designed for cutting and the back teeth are smaller than other bats. A bat s brain
processes sound and can detect breathing sounds of other animals sleeping. This part

John Hollander in his introduction to The Gazer s Spirit defines ekphrastic poems
as those which involve descriptions or other sorts of visual representations of works
of art (Hollander, 4). James Heffernan in his essay Ekphrasis and Representation,
which presents a more detailed study of the definition of ekphrasis, has a similar but
more concise definition of ekphrasis as the verbal representation of graphic
representation (Heffernan, 299). Heffernan goes on to say that ekphrasis releases the
narrative impulse that graphic art typically checks (Heffernan, 304). By analysing
poems written on Peter Brueghel s Fall of Icarus, this paper studies several different
aspects of ekphrastic poetry. Firstly, it studies the manner in which ekphrasis not
only describes a piece of art, but does so by translating the techniques used in the
graphic medium to the poetic medium. Secondly, it examines the use of the piece of
art as a device for the poet to create his own suggestions, interpretations and moral
judgments that may differ from the artist s style and instead fit into the style of the
poet s other works. Lastly, the paper examines the manner in which these
interpretations often lead to other ekphrastic conversations that do not respond to the

Surprisingly, I have not heard much about this movie, but the fact that this film was
made using only the words of an unfinished James Baldwin writing for a book
entitled Remember This House and that it was read by Samuel L. Jackson peaked
my interest. The book was supposed to tell the story of America through the lives of
his three murdered friends, well known civil rights activists Malcolm X, Martin
Luther King Jr., and Medgar Evers. To begin, I had no idea about James Baldwin s
relationship with Malcolm X and Medgar Evers, so I appreciated the way this film
gave me insight into that. Well, the only reason I know who Medgar Evers is was
because he was assassinated in the driveway of his home in Jackson, Mississippi
the city where my mom was born and where she and her family currently live. I
also grew up learning about Malcolm X in relation to Martin Luther King Jr. while
James Baldwin was also mentioned for his role during the Harlem Renaissance. It
was really interesting to me to learn that James Baldwin was friends with them
considering their initial political differences in their approach to fighting for equal

is considered for study. The generator speed deviation is used as an auxiliary signal
to SVC, to generate the desired damping. This controller improves the dynamic
performance of power system by reducing the steady state error. The controller
parameters are optimized using basic PSO, PSO SFIWA Advanced Adaptive PSO.
Computational results show that Advanced Adaptive based SVC controller is able to

In the instructional web design, for the emergent learning, the focus was on learning
the solar system. The classroom, I observed for twenty hours, was doing a lesson on
the solar system and child Q, was having some difficulties and challenges
understanding the interesting facts about the solar system. The children were learning
about the different planets, astronauts, moon, sun, stars and meteoroids. Child Q, was
not interested in the solar system, he would get extremely distracted, when the

Chrysalids by John Wyndham is set in the future after an apocalyptic event known as
Tribulation, causing a lack of knowledge of the past. The main community, Waknuk,
is prejudiced and ignorant. The narrator, David, recalls the unfolding of the dangerous
predicament caused by his society s ignorance. In this novel, the author presents that
ignorance results in adversity and ultimately, a society s downfall. The Waknukians
ignorance creates a hostile environment, causes disagreement, and is the agent of
their own defeat.
The Waknukians ignorance leads to their abomination of Mutants, creating a very
hostile environment. Their ignorance and lack of knowledge cause them to rely on
the only remains of the Old People and are used for direction in their lives. When
speaking of Nicholson s Repentances David says, Frequent references to these texts
had made me familiar with the words long before I was able to read, in fact I am
not sure that they did not give me my first reading lessons. I knew them by heart,

In life they re will always be people who will deceive you in a variety of ways and
their motives will try to justify those actions. In A Doll s House, Nora deceived
Helmer in result of her selfishness and immaturity. It began with small, innocent,

was in debt with Krogstad. Nora kept all this from Helmer in fear of his
abandonment. However, it shouldn t have been that way, since Helmer was always
honest to Nora and that same honesty was expected in return.
Overall, Nora s motives for her deceptions against Helmer in A Dolls house,
shouldn t be justified since she was supposed to come clean handed to Helmer about
her problems. For when someone is married, the spouse s problem involves the other
one too. This wasn t something the author did unintentionally, for he portrayed how a
small lie can escalate into a huge dilemma, and even lead to a marriage

Racial Profiling occurs in every region of the world. Everybody will judge you
based on your race and ethnicity. Racial profiling happens in our daily life, just like
in the film Us Against the World . The film showed how the people from Knott
County did not accept the players from Cordia since they came from another place
and people were against them because of their race. Racial profilingis a huge problem
in our society and we should treat everybody equally. Racial profiling affects our
everyday life by showing how different people are being judged base on their
background, skin tone, raceand ethnicity. In the film, Us against the World showed
how the players from Cordia was being racial profiled. It was a challenge for
Cordia s players since they have to go through unexpected changes in their families

Many people create the notion that perfection results in ultimate satisfaction.
However, sometimes, the desire of perfection may burden them and doom them to
unhappiness. Nathaniel Hawthorne s short story The Birth Mark is a third person
narrative about Aylmer and his obsession to make his wife Georgiana perfect by
removing her birthmark. Aylmer is a scientist who puts his love of scienceahead of
his love for his wife. His genuine, sincere, yet delusional effort to alter his wife s
beauty with science illustrates the story s theme that perfection is demoralizing
which reveals within Hawthorne s use of symbolism, characterization and the
narrative point of view.
To begin, Hawthorne uses Georgiana s birthmark as a symbol of imperfection. Aylmer
The narrator reinforces the theme of having the readers perceive Aylmer as the
antagonist. It s unambiguous the narrator isn t fond of Aylmer as they compare
him to an animal like Amminadab and expresses how shallow he is for valuing
science over his wife. The single worthy quality Aylmer has is he s an eminent man
of science. The narrator reveres Georgiana informing readers she s beloved by men.
Many a desperate swain would have risked life for the privilege of pressing his lips
to the mysterious hand [the birthmark]. (Hawthorne 2##). The narrator appears
biased towards Aylmer, however, explaining their bias comments by revealing his
hateful thoughts of the birthmark. Calling it a defect... the fatal flaw of humanity...
the symbol of his wife s liability to sin, sorrow, decay, and death... a frightful object,
causing him more trouble and horror than ever Georgiana s beauty. (Hawthorne 2##).
These comments force readers to despise Aylmer and his journey to eliminate the
birthmark and sympathize with Georgiana. For the theme to develop the narrator
must emphasize how offensive Aylmer is which therefore is why the story is in the
omniscient third person narration. Having the story narrated in any other viewpoint
would ease the intensity of Aylmer s character. Thus reducing how demoralizing
Aylmer is
