Ankit Pandey (1511662) Essay Author: Ellen Goodman (1941 present) Essay Title: The Company
Man It seems that almost every day in life we see news about a new death taken far too soon. There
are always some different stories behind them we are unaware of. Ellen Goodman, in this essay, talks
about the main character Phil, who is completely consumed by his work and who precisely works
himself to death after many decades of hard work and dedication to his company. There are many real
stories similar to that of Phil s we don t know, so the writer presents one of them to us. Goodman

Ph Levels Lab Report Essay
The relatively close pH levels of Tap Water, Spring Water,
Flavored Water, and Seltzer Water.
Introduction
This experiment was performed to investigate the following hypothesis: The following four different
types of drinking water (spring water, seltzer water, tap water, and flavored water) we test will
relatively have the same pH level.
Our group decided to test different types of drinking water to see if a pH level of tap water is
comparable to other types of water. Many people believe that city water has many chemicals, causing
us to form the expirement to see how close the different types of drinking water s pH levels are.
Materials and Methods
For the first part of our exiperiment we used the Red Cabbage Indicator. Red ... Show more content on

We then moved the electrode in one of the beakers of water we wanted to test. We measured the pH
level, recorded it, then placed it back into the clean water it was orignally in. We repeated these steps
for each of the different type of drinking water.
The control treatment in our expirement was thr red cabbage indicator. The dependent variable is the
pH of the water. The independent variable is the different types of drinking water ( tap water, spring
water, seltzer water, and flavored water). The standard variables in the expirement are the clean test
tubes, the clean pipettes, the Paraflim, the pH tester, and the pH levels pH 2, pH 4, pH 6, pH 7, pH 8,
pH 10, and pH 12.
Results
Table 1 shows the standard of the standard of the expirement. It is used to compare the color of the red
cabbage expirement to form an educated guess on the pH level of the different types of water. Table 2
shows the pH numbers we got from the red cabbage expirement and from the pH tester. This
informations enables to compare the red cabbage and the pH tester numbers in order to prove the red
cabbages accuaracy, and to prove our hypothesis that all of the pH numbers of the different types of
drinking water are relatively close.

His Coy Mistress Allusions
To be a human in this world one is aware that time is set differently for each individual. In To His Coy
Mistress by Andrew Marvell the speaker is well alert of time, the lover arguments in favor of pursuing
pleasure while he and the nameless woman are still physically together. While reading this 3 poetic
paragraphs, it is noticeable that the speaker is passionate and honest while using playful images,
allusion and symbolism into trying to get an opportunity with the woman to a sexual relationship
before time runs out on them.
The speaker in this poem uses a wide variety of different combinations of words put together. Starting
with admiring her and describing his love. In the opening stanza the speaker uses two different biblical
allusions to specifically let the woman know her refusal option and his love for her. As the author
states I would/ Love you ten years before the flood (Marvell 7 8). In this line the speaker represents
his love for an enormous tract of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The speaker continues to be persistent with the lady describing how lonely the afterlife is. The speaker
says And yonder all before us lie/ Deserts of vast eternity (Marvell 23 24). Deserts are being used as a
symbol for death and describing it as a big lonely place. When the reader follows up to the third
stanza, the speaker exhort a persuasion in expediency of time running out. He pleads the lady not to
waste any time nor her youth or her beauty, if it s not for some other thing than pleasure. The speaker
persuades even more in this line, Now let us sport us while we may, /and now, like amorous birds of
prey (Marvell 37 38). Marvell compares the speaker and the woman to animals, giving the reader a
more exotic look of amorous birds. This last stanza gave the reader a more understanding idea of how
the speaker feels the urge of passion by using symbolism in his

Charter Of Rights And Freedoms Essay
In Canada, we as Canadians live in a country in which our values are protected and respected, and this
is all thanks to the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms. As a part of the Canadian Constitution,
the Charter sets out those rights and freedoms that Canadians believe are necessary in our country.
Since its enactment in 1982, the Charter has improved all Canadian citizen s ability to participate in
society.1 So, today, I am here to convince you that the Charter is a key contributor to Canada as it
helped shaped Canada into the nation it is today.
To begin, the Charter guarantees the rights of individuals and allows Canadians to live in a free and
democratic society. It is organized into different sections such as fundamental freedoms, democratic
rights, mobility rights, language rights, and so on.1 To help you further understand the Charter, let s

Formally, the Canadian Constitution was a British law as Canada was still controlled by Great Britain.
Looking at a historical perspective, we see that creating the Charter of Rights and Freedoms was a
declaration of Canadian independence from Britain. This allowed Canada to create our own laws to
directly address Canadian issues. The Charter of Rights and Freedoms is historically significant as it
was a huge jump in Canadian development. Before the Charter was approved, other Canadian laws
that protected our rights and freedoms were combined in order to create the charter, such as the
Canadian Bill of Rights.2 The Bill of Rights enacted in 1960 and was replaced by the Charter of
Rights and Freedoms.4 Although many of the same rights and freedoms protected by the Charter were
included in the Bill of Rights, the Charter enhances the protections provided to Canadians by
increasing the number of the extent of our rights and

Analysis Of Nicolo Machiavelli s The Prince
Nicoló Machiavelli s The Prince highlights important aspects of successful leadership and power. The
representations of gender and power in this text help to display the principles and guidelines that
would make a leader successful in Machiavelli s eyes. Throughout The Prince, Machiavelli implies
that an individual with good morals will not obtain power, but rather that an individual who obtains
power is assumed as morally upright by the people. One may wonder how a man whose reputation
was a worshipper of the devil can have a profound impact on the individuals who live in this current
generation; in this text, Machiavelli gives readers his advice on how to rise to power using history as
evidence. Although Machiavelli s The Prince was written in the 1500s, his work is still being read,
praised and applied to this day, which suggests that his principles really are applicable to anyone.
Machiavelli s advice on power emphasizes that power is a game of deception, however an individual
must master themselves before they can deceive. Through analyzing Machiavelli s advice on power,
one can see how the text contains nuances about power concepts which can aid individuals to attain
power regardless of their gender. Machiavelli values the concept of gratitude because it illustrates that
individuals must first give to receive, a vital concept for increasing one s power. Machiavelli
emphasizes that individuals must offer what they value highly in life to win favor with a prince,

Relationship Between Audiences And Films
Unit 24 Assignment 4
Audiences and Films
The BBFC has commissioned me to undertake research as part of a project to ascertain to what degree
films can be regarded as powerful within contemporary society. In this assignment, I will
comprehensively explain the relationship between audiences and films with well explained examples.
I refer to the different sectors relating to the topic that include the following:
a) active and passive audience models
b) the preferred readings theory
c) reception theory and viewing contexts
d) your own research into the relationship between audiences and films
Active and Passive Audiences
An active audience is the opposite. An active audience can interact with the programme and tell them
their views, and what they would like to see. They can influence the outcome of the whole show.
A passive audience is an audience that has no influence over the outcome of the programme. They
cannot change it in any way and it is up to the writers to decide what happens and when.
Hypodermic Needle Model
The Hypodermic Needle Theory is one of the oldest in the field of media studies. Also known as the
Magic Bullet Theory, it states that media has a direct, complete and immediate effect on the audience.
The message for the media is directly received and wholly accepted by the user. The audience is
considered to completely passive entities that are left at the mercy of the media. Media is considered
to be super strong with the potential of mesmerizing its

As employees get older, job performance across various professional and non professional positions
has been proven to hold steady (Judge and Judge, 2007, pg. 49 50). Despite evidence to the contrary,
stereotypes and biased beliefs continue to permeate the information technology sector. This is partially
due to the nature of the industry itself. Information technology companies are geared towards
developing innovative technical products and services for businesses and consumers. Technology
rapidly evolves and adapts to address society s needs. For instance, the telephone gave way to the
facsimile machine. This soon became virtually obsolete with the introduction of newer technologies
such as email and instant messaging (Charness, 2006). Companies within the IT sector seek to
maintain a workforce that reflects the youth and vigor of their technology. Sylvia Francis, a researcher
of age discrimination, notes, These industries are looking to match staff with their perceived young
image, and once you hit 40 you no longer fit (Computer Weekly, 2006). Older workers also tend to
shun job postings or interviews referring to young, dynamic organizations or projects, as these
descriptors infer an environment that prefers youth rather than experience (Goodwin, 2006). A 2001
survey illustrates the disparity in both staffing and average salaries for IT professionals. This survey
consisted of 3,629 total respondents, of which 40

Using The Personal Task Management Software On Computers...
1. Background Rationale
In contemporary society, many people are overwhelmed by the number of tasks that need to be
accomplished [1], this tasks are of different types, ranging from daily based such as meetings at work,
and non daily based buying groceries after work. To help ourselves to remember these tasks, basic
practices are to take notes on the paper based day planners or post it and to use the personal task
management software on computers and/or smartphones. As smartphones are used as an alternatives
to personal computers, taking notes on smartphones is getting more and more popular [1].
Similar to programs on a personal computer, applications can downloaded and installed on a
smartphone. Similar to a personal computer there exists a wide selection of proprietary and open
source mobile operating system platforms, out of these smartphone operating systems, the most
prominent ones being Apples iOS, Googles Android, Symbian from Symbian foundation, RIM
blackberry OS and Windows mobile from Microsoft [2].
This project focuses on developing a mobile application, Locale Reminder for Google s Android
operating system. Majority of smartphone manufacturers such as Samsung, Motorola and HTC have
adopted Android as operating system for their products. As indicated by App Brain statistics, there are
more than 1.4 million applications accessible as of November 2014, of which more than 1.2 million
are free and more than 0.2 million are paid. On July 24, 2013 Google declared

Philosophy And Philosophy Of Teaching
Philosophy of Teaching
By: Tambra Reynolds
Every August, a group of second graders enter my classroom. I teach them how to read and write, tie
their shoes, and by June, make sure they are prepared for third grade. In the middle of last school year,
I received a new student. She was a beautiful, bubbly little girl. I soon learned she was terminally ill
and one of her last wishes was to return to school. I was incredibly humbled her parents were
entrusting their daughter into my care and sharing her with me during what would be her last days. In
those months to follow, I learned how fragile life could be. For Avery*, there was no next year; and
the biggest days of her life were playing out right in front of me. I slowed things down and didn t push
quite so hard. I gave an extra 15 minutes for recess, just because the weather was nice and the sky was
pretty. I would sit on the rug and read three stories in a row until my voice gave out, because the
children were loving the performance. I knew it was my job to be joyful. Children aren t supposed to
die. We all know and believe this truism. But the reality is, sometimes children do die. Avery s*
passing profoundly impacted not only my entire class, but me as an educator. Her passing taught me
that every moment matters. Whether a child has one year left in life, or many, the memories they make
now will impact their future.
This year, when I walked into my classroom on the first day of school, I could see her

The stagnation of Chinese astronomy in Ming Dynasty
Long ago, people began to observe the sky and astronomical objects to make predictions and modify
calendars. Until early Ming Dynasty, China was way more developed in astronomy than that of
European countries . Gaocheng Astronomical Observatory was built in 1279 in China that enabled
astronomers to calculate the accurate time of one year that was 300 years ahead of European scholars
working it out (K.G 37). However, in the 18th century, Chinese star catalog was relying on European
data and the ephemerides were calculated on the basis of Newtonian theory (Renn 283). Besides the

Exodus And Deuteronomy
Reading about Moses in Exodus and Deuteronomy I realized that Moses was the central character of
the Old Testament and was the main character of the early books of the bible. In the bible he was God
s Chosen one as God chose him to be his specific messenger and/or mediator to carry out certain tasks
ordered by God. My paper will mainly focus on Moses in regards to his behaviors throughout Exodus
and Deuteronomy and the challenges he has faced. I will focus and reflect on his interactions and
personal relationship with God and others throughout the bible. Moses was chosen by God for many
reasons, one reason including that he was very trustworthy not only to God but to his people. He

To see the relationship he had with God inspires many to find that same relationship with God in
today s society. The story of Moses is still important and looked upon today because of how much
hope, love, and even justice it demonstrated. Moses and God worked solely together and with that
there was hope, which helped them never give up especially when they tried to free the Israelites from
Pharaoh. After reading about Moses and Deuteronomy in many ways it brought back my faith. It
showed me how important it is to keep my faith and do not lose hope despite all the challenges we
face and it seems easier to just give up. I know that with my faith I can get through it all, I look at
what Moses had to endure and it is nothing compared to what I have faced or gone through. In regards
to the Ten Commandments, we still value them in our lives today. We may not value them the way
they did back in Moses time, but for me I look at them in a way that helps me make certain decisions
in life. In today s society we have used the story of Exodus for many reasons throughout history; it is a
story of freedom as the story of Moses show how difficult to gain back their freedom. We have learned
many lessons from Moses as he was the greatest spiritual leader. We will continue to look upon his

Physical Properties Of Matter, Density, Mass, And Volume
One of the physical properties of matter is density. Density is defined as a measure of how much mass
is contained in a given unit volume. A physical property can be measured without changing the
chemical identity of the substance. Since pure substances have unique density values, measuring the
density of a substance can help identify that substance. Density is determined by dividing the mass of
a substance by its volume. Density, volume, and mass have a clear relationship that can clearly be
shown by the mathematical formula:
Density= Mass/Volume
In our experiment we used the determined mass and volume of the sample to calculate the density of
an irregular solid and of an unknown liquid. We then compared our density of our liquid with densities
of known substances to determine the identity of the unknown substance. The purpose of the
experiment was to determine the density of a solid and an unknown liquid. Furthermore, we also
evaluated the relationships of density, mass, and volume.

matter. Mass is the measure of how much matter an object contains. The more matter an object

Benefits Of Mandatory HIV Testing
Mandatory HIV testing should be enforced, because for those who have the virus and do not know
that they have it, could possibly be spreading it to many of partners. If the government starts enforcing
this potential law, it would prevent many misfortunes and burdens. An article read, It will help people
make informed choices. Some people are not honest enough to disclose their HIV status (Obemeyer).
This quote explains that for those who do not have HIV, will not make informed choices about

People living with HIV are thriving and can continue, because those citizens got tested early enough

everyone should be tested, and for those who have it can keep it under control and not let it further
escalate into something fatal. Mandatory HIV testing can prevent a good deal of misunderstanding and
it can also help prevent spreading diseases to other people. A very worried discussion when talking

common misconceptions about coping
One of the most common mistakes we make when stressed by upsetting experiences is to try to shut
off our awareness of emotional brain s ability to sense what we are feeling. We can lose the ability to
care in a positive way. We may become insensitive to hurting other people with our words or actions.
Our strongest automatic coping response is from reptilian brain, which senses when we are physically
threatened by danger. The smart way to use our brain is by using the neocortex thinking ability to

Healthy coping capability and self acceptance is important for keeping us from either harming our self

Research Paper on How Plants Absorb Nutrients
How plants get liquid and minerals
Flowers absorb liquid through their roots, which are attached to xylem vessels. Xylem vessels are
tubes that can expand through several feet of tissue and be .7mm in diameter. Their walls are
thickened with cellulose deposits. Xylem bring water up to the leaves and petals of the plant. Even
without contact with the roots, the xylem can still absorb water. Because of this, a cut flower usually
doesn t die for a couple days (as long as it is placed in water of course).
The fluid inside of the plants is transported by capillary action. Capillary action is caused by surface
tension and adhesion. Adhesion is an attraction between two substances of different states (such as a
liquid and a solid). An example ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Calypso Borealis And I Wondered Lonely As A Cloud
Where can happiness be found in the world? John Muir answers this question in his essay The
Calypso Borealis, and William Wordsworth answers this in his poem I Wondered Lonely as a Cloud.
They both describe the positive relationship that they have with nature, and how happy nature makes
them. But the literary devices they use to express their relationships with nature are slightly different.
Both John Muir in The Calypso Borealis and William Wordsworth in I Wandered Lonely as a Cloud
use positive connotations of words and personification to express their relationships with nature, but
Muir also uses specific imagery to show how he appreciates nature, whereas Wordsworth uses unique
syntax to help show how joyful nature makes him.

In his essay, Muir describes the Calypso Borealis flower he found one day while exploring. He uses
mostly positive connotations and imagery to describe the flower: I found beautiful Calypso on the
mossy bank of a stream... its small white bulb had found a soft nest... and made the impression of the
utmost simple purity like a snowflower. This description of Calypso flower creates a clear picture for
the reader of what the Calypso flower looks like, while still creating a joyful tone. Muir does this by
using words and phrases with positive connotations, such as beautiful, soft nest, and purity. These
descriptions show how Muir views nature with optimism and joy, and finds beauty in nature. Muir
goes on to describe how his meeting with Calypso made a larger impression on him than any meeting
with another human, even though he met Calypso forty five years before writing the essay. Muir uses
personification in his description to show how he met the Calypso flower. He also repeatedly refers to
the flower as Calypso throughout the essay, as if the flower is a person named Calypso, which shows
how this flower meant as much to him or more than any person. Moreover, Muir is a naturalist writer,
and he studied how all living things are connected. When he is

Catawba, and Yemassee. The Cherokee was a tribe of Native Americans called the real people located
in the mountains of South Carolina. They built two types of homes for summer and winter in their
daily lives. Their summer homes allowed air to flow through to make it cooler, and their winter homes
were built with thick walls made of clay and grass called duab to keep it warmer. Men poisoned the
fishing water with walnut bark so the fish would float to the top and be easier to catch. Men and
women were allowed to be leaders of the council to make decisions for the tribe. The holy man could

The four distinct learning objectives are as follows: First, students are required to be able to adopt a
rhetorical perspective in order to identify, analyze, and describe the various aspects within one s own

Theme Of Nature In To Build A Fire
This is a famous short story by Jack London, which takes on a familiar theme, man vs nature. The
man is traveling by foot with his dog through the Yukon trail, on the way to a camp on Henderson
Creek. This man story is told from the third person omniscient point of view. At no point is the story
told from the dog s perspective. That means that the narrator knows the thoughts, actions, and feelings
of all the characters; in this case, To Build a Fire the narrator s characters are the unnamed man and
the dog who accompanies him. London description of this man and his surrounding gives the readers a
visual image of how the Alaskan wilderness looks like. It was cold freezing and cold. The man s

The Abundance of stupidity and pride are personified in the story s protagonist. For example, he goes
through the extremely cold area alone, despite going for the first time. This presumption results in the
protagonist putting himself in a bad situation that was completely preventable. At first, he thinks
nothing will happen and everything will be okay. By the end of the story, he is dead as a result of his
arrogance. Jack London illustrates the element of arrogance when the main character ignores the
possibility that there may be situations he cannot overcome.
Coming of death is another theme in the story; more specifically the peace that can be found in death.
Jack London foreshadows that the man will die in the story. Foreshadowing meaning that the author is
hinting what will be coming up later on in the story, which keeps the readers attentively reading

Why Do School Books Should Be Banned From Schools
Books are an essential to both school and after school life. They are the messages that have shaped our
country. Unfortunately, many books have been banned from school libraries all across the United
States for their messages or the themes they possess. While these books could be read out of school
hours, they have been banned from school libraries or reading centers. While there are some aspects I
do not agree with, I do, however, believe this is a good policy because it preserves the innocent minds
of readers from inappropriate or unsuitable content.

The Government Should Support Wind Energy
Many researchers argue that the government should support wind energy. The Union of Concerned
Scientists (UCS) argues that wind energy reduces pollution. A 2009 UCS analysis found that they
could reduce pollution by lowering power plant carbon dioxide emissions. A 25 percent national
renewable electricity standard would lower power plant carbon dioxide emissions 277 million metric
tons annually by 2025 (para. 4). A study by the United States Department of Energy s (DOE) National
Renewable Energy Laboratory explored reducing pollution by generating 80 percent of the country s
electricity production could be reduced by approximately 81 percent by 2050. Wind power can reduce
pollution generated by fossil fuels such as coal, oil, and gas. A typical 750 kW wind turbine provides
enough power for 328 typical (non electric heating) homes. Electricity production accounts for more
than one third of U.S. global warming emissions, with the majority generated by coal fired power
plants, which produce approximately 25 percent of total U.S. global warming emissions; natural gas
fired power plants produce 6 percent of total emissions. In contrast, global warming emissions
associated with renewable energy are minimal, according to data gathered by the International Panel
on Climate Change. Wind emits only 0.02 to 0.04 pounds of carbon dioxide equivalent per kilowatt
hour (CO2E/kWh). This is compared with natural gas, which emits between 0.6 and 2 pounds of
CO2E/kWh, and coal, which emits

According to settlement services international, Australia accepted 17,555 refugees in total in the 2015

Westernization Of Japanese Theatre Styles
Shingeki : Westernization of Japanese theatre.
This essay will discuss the extend of which the pioneers of Shingeki managed to adapt western style
drama and incorporate it in their particular style, by analysing their approaches and expectations.
Through a comparison between Japan s oldest and most traditional theatre style and Shingeki ,
translated in English as New Theatre, mentioning other forms of traditional style that were touched by
the western influence, , this essay aims to highlight the extend of which the Japanese theatre has been
influenced by the western style.
In studying the origins of Shingeki, it is evident that two men had a massive impact in developing this
style; men considered as pioneers of Shingeki. Tsubouchi Shōyō and Kaoru Osanai are two of the
pioneers who developed an interest in western style drama, and tried to adapt their traditional styles to
the western influences, without deviating from their Asian origins.
Tsubouchi Shōyō , approached the problem of modernization of Japanese theatre through studying
western plays and playwrights and to use his research to reform the traditional style of playwriting. He
translated and studied Shakespearean plays for the main purpose of capturing his masterful
playwriting and using it to reform the Kabuki theatre. He aimed to use an existent form of Japanese

The Importance Of Fallacy In Advertising
Have you ever watched a commercial and thought it was full of complete lies? In today s advertising
world, most commercials are misleading and full of fallacy. The goal of the advertiser isn t to be
ethical, but to sell the product they are advertising. Some commercials will go great lengths to make
sure the viewers are interested in their product. Almost all of today s advertisements are edited, and
tend to have high production values. Advertisements also play a huge role in society by showing the
public what is new, and what the next big thing is. The 2017 Toyota Mirai Super Bowl commercial
contains multiple cases of fallacy, such as emotional appeal, either/or reasoning, and
oversimplification, and uses such to manipulate viewers into buying their product. This strategy is
unethical and is targeted at the strivers and the experiencers, as described in What We Are to
Advertisers by James B. Twitchell. The commercial starts with a lone daisy growing between a crack
in the asphalt. Slow, dramatic piano music starts to play. The camera starts to pan in towards the lone
daisy, just as a car rushes past, and stops momentarily with its muffler pointed directly at it. Quickly,
the car takes off, leaving the lone daisy in a thick, black cloud of exhaust. Violins play a dramatic flare
as the daisy slowly shrivels up and wilts. The camera fades back in darkness with a spotlight shining
on the wilted daisy. Suddenly, the music changes to a happier tone. Over the horizon comes a

Milk Film Analysis
Milk, directed by Gus Van Sant, had a strong impact on he as a viewer. This documentary/drama film

much attention to gay rights and their fight during this time as well. Milk worked hard to win his title,
but sadly his victory was short lived. A year after winning his title he was murdered by ex Supervisor,

actions were. In the beginning of the film when you first met Milk, you saw that he was just any other

The Public Schooling System During The United States
When looking at the history of America, it is fascinating to see how the public schooling system even

first schools in the United States were religious and not secular (Elifson 1). Nearly all public schools,
up to the 1960 s incorporated religion and prayer in their classrooms; however, in the last 50 years,
prayer and religion in public schools has been debated over countless times. Even in Hudsonville,

Samuel Ayers and Shelly Reid are two educators at schools in Texas and they agree with this
statement. They argue constantly in their article that religions are essential in teaching social studies.
Reid and Ayers contend that, [the] very faces of Europe and Africa were changed as Muslims and
Christians battled over lands during the Middle Ages (2). They also state that in other countries, entire
social systems are based on religious beliefs (2). Consequently, this points to the fact that religion, in
its entirety, is immensely important in teaching students the history of nations and many social
systems that nations uphold. Reid and Ayers have proven that after receiving the knowledge of
religion in some countries and understanding why their respective religions were important to them,
[students] achieved a deeper understanding of many current events, [especially] those involving the
Middle East (Ayers and Reid 2). It is perfectly clear that in many circumstances, knowing the religious
background of a nation will help enlighten the students to better understand why some nations hold a
particular stance on a given matter (Ayers and Reid 1 3).
Another author, Rob Boston, talks about this subject in less detail. He argues that legitimate
instruction about religion as an academic subject in public schools [is not] a problem. As long

Proximal Humerus Fracture
EVOLUTION OF TREATMENT With advent of advanced medical care, the life span of humans has
considerably increased. This in turn has increased the populations of the aged people. With the
increased life span and need to be independent patients are now demanding for a better functional
outcome following a fracture fixation. Management of proximal humerus fractures in the elderly has
always posed a challenge to the orthopaedicians in their daily practice. The earliest documentation
regarding proximal humerus fractures was by the Egyptians dating back to 1600 BC. The Edwin
Smith Papyrus (copied circa 1600 BC) in columns XII and XIII has documented about three cases of
proximal humerus treated by bandaging and splinting technique [Figure 1]. 1 Later in 415 BC,
Hippocrates approach to fractures of humerus was noted in De Fracturis and also the Hippocratic
Corpus (circa 440 340 BC). In Hippocratic mode of reduction for fractures of humerus (De Fracturis,

Looking at a historical perspective, we see that creating the Charter of Rights and Freedoms was a declaration of Canadian independence from Britain. This allowed Canada to create our own laws to directly address Canadian issues. The Charter of Rights and Freedoms is historically significant as it was a huge jump in Canadian development. Before the Charter was approved, other Canadian laws that protected our rights and freedoms were combined in order to create the charter, such as the Canadian Bill of Rights.2 The Bill of Rights enacted in 1960 and was replaced by the Charter of Rights and Freedoms.4 Although many of the same rights and freedoms protected by the Charter were included in the Bill of Rights, the Charter enhances the protections provided to Canadians by increasing the number of the extent of our rights and ... An active audience can interact with the programme and tell them their views, and what they would like to see. They can influence the outcome of the whole show. As employees get older, job performance across various professional and non professional positions has been proven to hold steady (Judge and Judge, 2007, pg. 49 50). Despite evidence to the contrary, stereotypes and biased beliefs continue to permeate the information technology sector. This is partially due to the nature of the industry itself. Information technology companies are geared towards developing innovative technical products and services for businesses and consumers. Technology rapidly evolves and adapts to address society s needs. For instance, the telephone gave way to the facsimile machine. This soon became virtually obsolete with the introduction of newer technologies such as email and instant messaging (Charness, 2006). Companies within the IT sector seek to maintain a workforce that reflects the youth and vigor of their technology. Sylvia Francis, a researcher of age discrimination, notes, These industries are looking to match staff with their perceived young image, and once you hit 40 you no longer fit (Computer Weekly, 2006). Older workers also tend to shun job postings or interviews referring to young, dynamic organizations or projects, as these descriptors infer an environment that prefers youth rather than experience (Goodwin, 2006). • 12. Philosophy And Philosophy Of Teaching Philosophy of Teaching By: Tambra Reynolds Every August, a group of second graders enter my classroom. I teach them how to read and write, tie their shoes, and by June, make sure they are prepared for third grade. In the middle of last school year, I received a new student. She was a beautiful, bubbly little girl. I soon learned she was terminally ill and one of her last wishes was to return to school. I was incredibly humbled her parents were entrusting their daughter into my care and sharing her with me during what would be her last days. In those months to follow, I learned how fragile life could be. For Avery*, there was no next year; and the biggest days of her life were playing out right in front of me. I slowed things down and didn t push quite so hard. I gave an extra 15 minutes for recess, just because the weather was nice and the sky was pretty. I would sit on the rug and read three stories in a row until my voice gave out, because the children were loving the performance. I knew it was my job to be joyful. Children aren t supposed to die. We all know and believe this truism. But the reality is, sometimes children do die. Avery s* passing profoundly impacted not only my entire class, but me as an educator. Density is defined as a measure of how much mass is contained in a given unit volume. A physical property can be measured without changing the chemical identity of the substance. Since pure substances have unique density values, measuring the density of a substance can help identify that substance. Density is determined by dividing the mass of a substance by its volume. Density, volume, and mass have a clear relationship that can clearly be shown by the mathematical formula: Density= Mass/Volume In our experiment we used the determined mass and volume of the sample to calculate the density of an irregular solid and of an unknown liquid. We then compared our density of our liquid with densities of known substances to determine the identity of the unknown substance. The purpose of the experiment was to determine the density of a solid and an unknown liquid. Furthermore, we also evaluated the relationships of density, mass, and volume. Keywords: Density, Mass, Volume Introduction Which is heavier, a pound of feathers or a pound of lead? I m sure we have all heard this pretty naive riddle. However, some people would think that the answer would be the pound of lead. However, after this experiment we should all know the answer. All matter has volume and mass. A study by the United States Department of Energy s (DOE) National Renewable Energy Laboratory explored reducing pollution by generating 80 percent of the country s electricity production could be reduced by approximately 81 percent by 2050. • 33. Persuasive Essay On Manus Island According to settlement services international, Australia accepted 17,555 refugees in total in the 2015 2016 period. Although these people were simply entering Australia to flee prosecution in the country from which they departed, many still saw it as a compromise to safety. This is not without reason though; most of us will remember the Sydney siege in late 2014, in which a gunman held 18 people hostage inside a Lindt cafe, or the Brighton siege just earlier this year in which a gunman killed a receptionist at an apartment complex and took another woman hostage. There is no doubt about it: national security, among other important things, is paramount. But this does not justify the current state of the recently closed Manus island, or the atrocities ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In 2001, an offshore immigration centre was established on Manus Island as part of the Howard Government s Pacific Solution, which aimed to respond to the rising number of boat arrivals. This solution, which was only meant to serve temporarily, saw unauthorised vessels being intercepted in the Pacific Ocean, usually by the Australian navy. The people on board the boat would be transferred to offshore processing centres on Manus and Nauru island. These centres were closed in 2008, but reopened in November, 2012 following a surge in asylum seekers arriving by boat. The processing centres, as they were called, were ironic in name and problematic in nature. Considered by many news outlets as the Guantanamo Bay of Australia, these centres accommodated detainees in poor living conditions, and lacked in many important areas. In his article from published in The Sydney Morning Herald Nauru and Manus Island are Australia s Guantanamo Bay , David Isaacs compared Australia s centres with America s in four aspects lack of due process for imprisoning people there, lack of accountability (limited information, no transparency), indefinite imprisonment without due process (seemingly arbitrary legal processing, lack of clear end point to imprisonment) and severe physical and mental maltreatment. Ultimately, these centres gave a reason for all Australians to be ashamed in our government. Of course, wrongdoings could be found in all characteristics ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This essay will discuss the extend of which the pioneers of Shingeki managed to adapt western style drama and incorporate it in their particular style, by analysing their approaches and expectations. Through a comparison between Japan s oldest and most traditional theatre style and Shingeki , translated in English as New Theatre, mentioning other forms of traditional style that were touched by the western influence, , this essay aims to highlight the extend of which the Japanese theatre has been influenced by the western style. In studying the origins of Shingeki, it is evident that two men had a massive impact in developing this style; men considered as pioneers of Shingeki. Tsubouchi Shōyō and Kaoru Osanai are two of the pioneers who developed an interest in western style drama, and tried to adapt their traditional styles to the western influences, without deviating from their Asian origins. Tsubouchi Shōyō , approached the problem of modernization of Japanese theatre through studying western plays and playwrights and to use his research to reform the traditional style of playwriting. He translated and studied Shakespearean plays for the main purpose of capturing his masterful playwriting and using it to reform the Kabuki theatre. • 36. The Importance Of Fallacy In Advertising Have you ever watched a commercial and thought it was full of complete lies? In today s advertising world, most commercials are misleading and full of fallacy. The goal of the advertiser isn t to be ethical, but to sell the product they are advertising. Some commercials will go great lengths to make sure the viewers are interested in their product. Almost all of today s advertisements are edited, and tend to have high production values. Advertisements also play a huge role in society by showing the public what is new, and what the next big thing is. The 2017 Toyota Mirai Super Bowl commercial contains multiple cases of fallacy, such as emotional appeal, either/or reasoning, and oversimplification, and uses such to manipulate viewers into buying their product. This strategy is unethical and is targeted at the strivers and the experiencers, as described in What We Are to Advertisers by James B. Twitchell. The commercial starts with a lone daisy growing between a crack in the asphalt. Slow, dramatic piano music starts to play. The camera starts to pan in towards the lone daisy, just as a car rushes past, and stops momentarily with its muffler pointed directly at it. Quickly, the car takes off, leaving the lone daisy in a thick, black cloud of exhaust. Violins play a dramatic flare as the daisy slowly shrivels up and wilts. The camera fades back in darkness with a spotlight shining on the wilted daisy. Suddenly, the music changes to a happier tone. Over the horizon comes a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 37. Milk Film Analysis Milk, directed by Gus Van Sant, had a strong impact on he as a viewer. This documentary/drama film goes through Harvey Milks process in becoming San Francisco s first openly gay Supervisor. The film gives a great reenactment of the troubles and hardships him and his followers faced before, during, and after his election. Not only does this film focus in Milk s process to Supervisor, but it also pays much attention to gay rights and their fight during this time as well. Milk worked hard to win his title, but sadly his victory was short lived. A year after winning his title he was murdered by ex Supervisor, Dan White. This film was very interesting to watch and it showed me how powerful Harvey Milk s actions were. In the beginning of the film when you first met Milk, you saw that he was just any other guy that you d see on the streets. With the way he portrayed himself, I thought he would never win any type of election. He had a nappy, long ponytail, and dressed himself like a hippie. When he lost his first election, I was not surprised. I think Milk realized that he needed to alter his appearance in order to gain ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... By allowing people to feel comfortable with their sexuality, Milk brought the community together. He showed everyone in his community that being different was okay. In my opinion, Harvey Milk being gay, had nothing to do with his assassination. Dan White was angry that he was no longer welcome on the Board, so he took matters into his own hands. If Milk happened to be straight, I feel that White still would ve shot him dead. If Milks murder was because he was gay, the mayor may not have been ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 38. The Public Schooling System During The United States When looking at the history of America, it is fascinating to see how the public schooling system even got started. The first schools in America were not public schools, as many would presume. Instead, the first schools in the United States were religious and not secular (Elifson 1). Nearly all public schools, up to the 1960 s incorporated religion and prayer in their classrooms; however, in the last 50 years, prayer and religion in public schools has been debated over countless times. Even in Hudsonville, Michigan, which holds the record in the Guinness Book of World Records for having the most churches on a single street, there is much debate over prayer and the teaching of Christianity, or any religion, in the public schools. When I ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Samuel Ayers and Shelly Reid are two educators at schools in Texas and they agree with this statement. They argue constantly in their article that religions are essential in teaching social studies. Reid and Ayers contend that, [the] very faces of Europe and Africa were changed as Muslims and Christians battled over lands during the Middle Ages (2). They also state that in other countries, entire social systems are based on religious beliefs (2). Consequently, this points to the fact that religion, in its entirety, is immensely important in teaching students the history of nations and many social systems that nations uphold. Reid and Ayers have proven that after receiving the knowledge of religion in some countries and understanding why their respective religions were important to them, [students] achieved a deeper understanding of many current events, [especially] those involving the Middle East (Ayers and Reid 2). It is perfectly clear that in many circumstances, knowing the religious background of a nation will help enlighten the students to better understand why some nations hold a particular stance on a given matter (Ayers and Reid 1 3). Another author, Rob Boston, talks about this subject in less detail. He argues that legitimate instruction about religion as an academic subject in public schools [is not] a problem. As long ... This in turn has increased the populations of the aged people. With the increased life span and need to be independent patients are now demanding for a better functional outcome following a fracture fixation. Management of proximal humerus fractures in the elderly has always posed a challenge to the orthopaedicians in their daily practice. The earliest documentation regarding proximal humerus fractures was by the Egyptians dating back to 1600 BC. The Edwin Smith Papyrus (copied circa 1600 BC) in columns XII and XIII has documented about three cases of proximal humerus treated by bandaging and splinting technique [Figure 1]. 1 Later in 415 BC, Hippocrates approach to fractures of humerus was noted in De Fracturis and also the Hippocratic Corpus (circa 440 340 BC). In Hippocratic mode of reduction for fractures of humerus (De Fracturis, VIII) the patient is made to sit on a high stool with a hanging rod in the armpit. According to Celsus the bandages should be longer in proximal humerus fracture than if the shaft or distal part is broken. He also recommended making the turns of the bandage numerous rather than tight. His method differed from Hippocrates in using six bandages instead of three and he applied larger pieces of linen and soaked it with wine and oil instead of cerate. ...
