Comparing Mark Twain s The Prince And The Pauper
Mark Twain, the author shows the misfortune of two very young boys of different class in the book of,
The Prince and the Pauper. The illustrious Prince of England, Edward, and the lowly, youthful beggar
of London streets, Tom, incidentally exchange their positions in life. One, a great prince of a whole
kingdom, reduced to a beggar, and the other, a beggar raised to a position of power and prosperity. As
the real prince struggles to attain scarcely as much as a scrap of food in the streets of London, poor
unfortunate Tom will have a nightmare to remember because this was the very thing he dreamt of , but
now he wants nothing to do with it.. During this turmoil and historical occurrence not only the boys
were perplexed, but also the imperial court of his majesty King Henry the VIII. The noble court heard
a rumor that Prince Edward perchance has gone mad. As the boys embark on this new journey of their
lives, the boys will see what life was like for both of them. In this incredible story the boys and other
characters will experience struggle for survival, injustice, and loyalty. No matter how much it hurts
now, someday you will look back and realize your struggle changed your life for the better Terry ...

Edward, cloaked in the protection of Tom s mother, saw that the woman out of love for her son took
the brutal blows of her husband. The prince had never witnessed such a profound love up to now.
Meanwhile, Tom had adapted his situation and acted like a prince. Tom became fond of his position,
but there was part of him wishing and hoping that the real prince would arrive. Now Tom enjoyed his
time at the Palace. Edward despised this incident, but all this misfortune taught the prince and Tom
what the atmosphere felt like for both of them. Later on in the story the Prince resumed his position as

Citizen Rankine Citizen Analysis
Rankine reveals a tragic fact that even as a powerful developed country which believes in freedom and
democracy, there are still so much injustice in US. This certainly would be ironic, wouldn t it? As
what the book named, Citizen, legally, it means a natural person who has the nationality of a certain
country, and according to the constitution of this country, he has the rights and obligations. From the
point of view of its generation, as a legal concept, the citizen is closely linked with the democracy.
However, in Rankine s prose, imagery and poetry, citizen becomes a powerful proof of the
contemporary racism in America. For instance, in the p148, the waiter returns the card to your friend
instead of you. The people in the restaurant

Genetic Case Studies
GENETIC CASE STUDIES 4 Case 1 Q1. This infant exhibits a genetic defect known as 21
hydroxylase deficiency classical congenital adrenal hyperplasia (CAH), which is an inherited disorder
that affects the adrenal glands (What is 21 hydroxylase deficiency, 2010, NIH). The female infant in
this case study exhibits the classic form of the condition, resulting in ambiguous genitalia. The adrenal
glands are located on top of the kidneys and produce a variety of hormones that regulate many
essential functions in the body. In people with 21 hydroxylase deficiency, the adrenal glands produce
excess androgens, which are male sex hormones (What is 21 hydroxylase deficiency, 2010, NIH).
Females with the condition may exhibit male sex traits such hirsutism and pattern baldness as well as
irregular menstruation and impaired fertility. The source of the condition is a mutation in the
CYP21A2 gene which is necessary for the creation of the enzyme 21 hydroxylase. This enzyme is
found in the adrenal glands, where it plays a role in producing hormones called cortisol and
aldosterone and without the enzyme, substances that are usually used to form cortisol and aldosterone
instead build up in the adrenal glands and are converted to androgens. The excess production of
androgens leads to abnormalities of sexual development in people with 21 hydroxylase deficiency
(What is 21 hydroxylase deficiency, 2010, NIH). Q2. There is no known cure for this disorder.
However, early

Geico
The average person encounters more than 600 advertisements per day through an expanding variety of
media. As GEICO s V.P. of Advertising, I understand that choices must be made. We simply can not
afford to make mistakes. Our ads need to be effective. The basic premise is that we want our ads to be
noticed and memorable resulting in action taken by the consumer. A creative brief has been designed
and will be utilized as a road map in helping us answer two important questions One Who are we
talking to? and Two What do we want to say? The creative brief begins with identifying the objective
of the advertisement. Geico wants to increase brand awareness and provide enough information in
their ads that will result in the consumer ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The end state is any personal value the consumer may have. The theory also suggests using five
elements when creating ads that include the product s attributes, the benefits the consumer receives
from the product, a leverage point, personal values, and executional framework. I feel that Geico takes
this theory into consideration when designing their ads. The product attribute of low cost is linked to
the specific benefit of consumer savings. The leverage point for Geico is the link between the savings
benefit and the personal values of accomplishment (saving money) and security. The brand s number
one spokesman, the gecko was designed to help the viewers remember that he can save you money on
your car insurance. Creative strategizing includes choosing the correct advertising appeal. Advertising
appeals have been used throughout the years to create successful ads. Seven major types of ad appeals
exist and they include: fear, humor, sex, rationality, music, emotion, and scarcity. After reviewing the
creative brief, the type of appeal should be chosen for the product/service. More than one appeal can
be employed if account executives and their client feel it is appropriate. Geico uses humor as their
chief appeal in designing their advertisements. Ironically car insurance is not a fun or humorous
product so to speak. On the contrary, it is necessary coverage that consumers hope to never use. Geico

Strong Music Education
Three fifths of the United States have made cuts to their music programs. Studies have shown that
schools with good music education programs help students perform better on standardized tests. Many
famous businessmen and woman also attribute their success to their musical background. Therefore
schools should have strong music education programs so their students develop necessary skills for
their careers, communicate better with others, and score higher on tests.
First things first, the study of music develops necessary skills in the future of children s careers. Many
celebrities and accomplished entrepreneurs have stated that their music education has helped them
develop useful skills for their career. Joanne Lipman quotes Chuck Todd in her article Is Music the
Key to Success? , he says, I ve always believed the reason I ve gotten ahead is by outworking other
people . Todd has realized that practicing his french horn ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the opinion of many it takes away from valuable time in other subjects. This is incorrect. When
children gain music education they are able to become proficient in their classes. So the time out of
class isn t making students less smart, it makes them more smart. Developing skills like endurance,
creative thinking, and collaboration also come with music. There are many benefits to instructing
children in music, so cutting the program would damage learning.
All things considered, it doesn t make sense why states would cut the music programs of their schools.
When students receive education they continue to grow and progress academically; in a like manner it
is the same with music education. They are also being prepared to live in the real world by learning
how to work at something until it s perfect and think of new solutions to problems. Therefore, schools
should have strong music programs to help their students be

Compare And Contrast Star Wars And Star Trek
Star Wars and Star Trek have been one of the most popular series invented. For many years now
people have gone to events called comic cons. These events are where people dress up as a character
of their choice and do activities. These two subjects that were chosen for this compare and contrast
essay were picked out by a birthmark. A birthmark on me myself that looks like the Star Trek symbol.
This birthmark has led me to want to know a little more about these two popular movies.
There are many differences between Star Wars and Star Trek. For instance, the weaponry used. Star
Wars used lightsabers, blasters, ion cannons, and laser cannons for weapons while in Star Trek
multiple beams, pulse, and torpedo weapon types are used. In 1966, Star

Disadvantages Of Satellites
SATELLITE SYSTEMS World s first satellite Sputnik successfully launched by USSR 1957. Number
of satellites has significantly increased to over 1,100 operational satellites, with over 2000 obsolete
satellites since the first launch. Satellites either orbit the earth as a geostationary or non geostationary.
Geostationary stationary in the sky above a fixed point on the surface. The increasing amount of old
satellites and space debris has risen concerns for collisions with current satellites. GLOBAL
POSITIONING SYSTEMS (GPS) Global Positioning Satellite (GPS) systems are used to determine
the exact location of a number of modes of transport (e.g., airplanes, cars, ships, etc). GPS works in 2
parts Satellites surrounding the Earth transmit signals to the surface. A network of satellites constantly
broadcast a time signal, including it s position and time; each satellite has an Atomic clock (used in the
satellites which are accurate clocks within a fraction of a second per day) which broadcasts the time
signal at the speed of light (about 299 792 458 m / s). The receiver then receives the signal, it can
usually receive signals from 6 to 8 of them, and compares the time it took each signal to travel from
the satellite to the receiver. By doing so, it is able to triangulate and determine it s position on earth,
quite accurately (within 5 and 50 metres). The computer on board the mode of transport calculates its
exact position based on the information from at least

Mother In Refugee Camp Poem Analysis
Remember by Christina Rossetti, Mother in Refugee Camp by Chinua Achebe and War Photographer

Mother in Refugee Camp, Chinua Achebe exposes the reader to the realistic and horrific conditions of
a refugee camp, culminating in the lamentable death of the child. The language, the use of metaphors
and similes and structure call attention to the idea of cyclical death in a refugee camp. The poem War
Photographer explores the continual cycle of death in war zones. Duffy examines the predicament the
war photographer faces whether to intervene in the ongoing conflict or to uncover the reality and
destruction of conflict. However, Remember exhibits a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Sao Paulo Research Paper
Sao Paulo is a megalopoly, has around 19 million inhabitants, with its mobility issues around 7 million
cars and poor public transport infrastructure. The real estate speculation made the city grow with
hardly any urban planning and very few and far apart parks. Green areas were seen and reserved to
leisure time and not a necessary part for the city the lack of contact with nature and it is evident there.
The fact is almost no one know there is urban agriculture in Sao Paulo, even with its many problems
few initiatives are dotted around the city. The difference there is, while in developed countries urban
farming is somewhat seen as a new back to nature trend, in developing countries and places like Sao
Paulo this trend goes beyond that: it provides a vital source of nutrition and revitalization of an area. ...

Strategic Profile Of The Boeing Corporation
Strategic Profile
The Boeing Airplane Company was established in 1916 by William Boeing in the city of Seattle,
Washington. Boeing has become one of the world s biggest manufacturers when it comes to military
and commercial planes and parts. There are two major corporations within the aircraft industry that are
big competitors and share a great rivalry with each other and they are the Boeing and Airbus
Corporations. The corporations have been competing with each other for many years when it comes to
finding potential contracts for their airplane and also creating different and unique aircraft models for
their targeted customers.
There are five divisional units in which Boeing coordinate their products and services that they offer
to their customers, which are Boeing Commercial Airplanes, Boeing Defense Space and Security,
Boeing Military Aircraft, Boeing Global Services and Support and Boeing Capital Corporation. (ASU
C 3) The purpose of this report is to gather information of external and internal analysis of the Boeing
Corporation and used it to see how Boeing fits in the aerospace industry environment.
General Environment One of the many general environment segments that influenced the Boeing
Corporation was that in technological trends. In the early years of the Boeing Corporation they
developed a computerize program which helped them with the design and preassemble process of

Seizing the Day in Robert Herrick’s poem, “To the...
To what extent may an argument be framed as believable or serious? Persuasion on seizing the day is a
common theme in Robert Herrick s poem, To the Virgins, To Make Much of Time and Andrew Marvel
s To His Coy Mistress . The arguments within the poems can seem unrealistic, a little hyperbolic, with
an underlying intent to acquire a woman to sleep with them. The concrete position of all the arguments
within the two poems seems to be, getting a woman to sleep with them. The two poets posses
similarities between the two pieces of poetry, however argue the topics in different ways. Beauty is not
forever lasting, coyness put aside, while pleasure embraced, and time is of the essence; are all points
made to intrigue women to be with them. To focus on those points a little: The beauty of a woman is
compared to aspects of nature. Herrick s poem only looks at the physical qualities of a woman, unlike
Marvel s, which references personality along with physical traits. Sexual passion embraced, and
coyness set aside? The poets, both urge women to act upon sexual urges while they stay youthful, but
if a woman was told they are not going to be desired when older, would they actually want to be with
someone who tells them that? Time is moving quickly and its made known within the poems. Herrick
is an advocate to relate everything to physical aspects, so of course he says a woman s beauty
diminishes quickly. Marvel does not relate beauty and time together, instead he would

Compassion Fatigue: Caring for the Caregiver Introduction
Compassion represents an acknowledgement of another s suffering and is accompanied by the
expression of a desire to ease or end that suffering. (Van der Cingal, 2009, p. 124) This is a
fundamental characteristic usually found in health care workers and nurses especially. In one twelve
hour shift, a nurse s job can change from taking vitals and administering medications to performing
life saving measures ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Physical rest, nutrition and exercise are some of these needs and if denied, the body will eventually
become too exhausted to function properly. The most common symptoms of this are fatigue not
relieved with sleep, insomnia and irritability. If left untreated, physical exhaustion can lead to physical
ailments such as dizziness, colds, headaches, chronic pain, and digestive problems and even impaired
functioning of other body systems. (Espeland, 2006, p. 180) Emotional Exhaustion
Similar to physical exhaustion, emotional exhaustion results from depletion of emotional resources
and failure to restore one s own emotional equilibrium. (Moore, 2009, p. 1) In today s busy society the
demands of life, job and family can be excessive and overwhelming. Combine these demands with the
additional stressors of caring for another person or persons, increased demands of productivity with
decreased personnel and the unrealistic expectations of one s self or others and place all of this burden
on one person, this would adequately describe the 21st century nurse. Nurses are continually engaged
in emotional relationships with patients and their families which call upon the nurse to be in a constant
supporting role. One reaches emotional exhaustion when this burden becomes too heavy to carry

Critique Of Sigmund Freud s Psychoosexual Development Theory
Psychosexual Development Theory
Sigmund Freud s psychosexual development theory states the role of parents with the basic sexual
desires of children in developing their personalities. This theory is concerned on the sexual pleasure
received from specific body parts and sexual activities. Ku, (2011) argues with Freud s
recommendation on encouraging children s tendencies stating that parents will try to guide children
toward moderation in all things.
Children who complete these stages successfully, grow to be calm and well centered adults (Ku,
2011). However, problematic behavior patterns are developed when fixations occur due to frustration
or indulge.
Freud also states that personality consists ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, poor sexual relationships, feeling on inadequacy and guilt about sexuality are also
developed due to fixations at this stage.
Critiques on Psychosexual Development Theory
Though this theory is being criticized, it is still important because many other theories are based on
this. According to Ku (2011), Freud s theory helped scientists to have a further look into human
behavior development. The major critique on this theory is that this theory is more focused on human
sexuality. Cherry (n.d.) states four major critiques to Freud s theory as follows:
 Freud was believed to have worked with troubled adults in developing this theory, rather than
working with children,
 Feminists criticize this theory as this is focused mainly on male development,
 Freud s theory is difficult to test scientifically as concepts like libido cannot be measured and
tested, and
 As there is a long time between childhood and adulthood, it cannot be said that childhood
experiences affects adult personality.
Conclusion
With much critics, psychosexual development theory is still considered important. Parents role

The Effect of the Scopes Trial on Education
The 1920s was a decade of significant importance in the world of science.
In 1859, Charles Darwin declared his theory of evolution humans had descended from apes. This
ideology was unpopular throughout the minds of freedom and Jesus loving Americans. Although 1920
s technology was on its way to new findings, the traditionally southern public eye didn t seem to be
fascinated with the thought of people descending from humongous and hairy beings. The American
Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) supported Darwin s theory, though. The Union was formed to protect
the rights proclaimed by the Constitution and Bill of Rights. With that mission in mind, the ACLU
paid for John Scopes defense team and promoted that he challenge the law (Leinwand 206). John
Scopes was a science teacher in Dayton, Tennessee, specializing in biology. He used a state approved
textbook to teach his students, but because the book included Darwin s theory of evolution, Scopes
was not legally able to teach that portion of the text. He was then arrested for violating the Butler Act,
which was just recently passed, and defended the ACLU (Green 164).

Febrile Epilepsy Research Paper
Each year, one in one hundred people in the United State develop epilepsy, but there is a less common
type of epilepsy. It s called febrile infection related epileptic syndrome, more commonly known as
FIRES. I happen to know one of the few people who have this type of epilepsy. Her name is Kailee,
and she goes to my brother s school. She was even in some of his classes. This type of epilepsy occurs
in school aged children between the ages of six and seventeen ( What is FIRES? ). It starts with a mild
febrile illness that lasts anywhere from four days to two weeks. Febrile illness is when someone has a
fever but they aren t sick with anything else ( Febrile Illness ). When Kaylee was at this point, her
mom thought she had the flu. This is very common, as the flu presents itself as a fever in many
children. Then, the child starts to have seizures. The seizures occur very quickly, and the child needs
to be hospitalized immediately at this point. Seizures the children experience are non focal, meaning
they have no consistent starting point or ending point in the brain ( What is FIRES ). The disease is
slightly more prevalent in boys than girls, but there is no known reason as ... Show more content on

Due to its low prevalence, they aren t able to study enough patients to get any solid results. However,
there are some ideas as to what causes the seizures. First of all, it could be genetic. The problem with
this theory is that no gene has been found that could link to FIRES. Some scientists think the disease
is a result of an autoimmune response, while others think the seizures are caused by a malfunction in
the metabolic process of some cells. Both of these theories have little evidence to support them.
FIRES could be a result of the febrile illness that comes before the seizures. The idea is that the
increased heat in the body results in the mutation of a pathogen. The new pathogen might attack the
brain and cause the seizures (Van

Evaluating The Effectives Of Social Program
Practice evaluations are the systematic ways of evaluating the effectives of social program. It involves
using applied social research to find the extent to which social programs are carried out effectively and
efficiently. Practice of work can be evaluated by the application of quantitative or qualitative research
methods in order to answer questions about the social work practice. Social workers engage in
research for two primary reasons. The first reason is to evaluate their own practice: interventions and
programs. Social workers have a responsibility to provide high quality of care to their clients. The
second reason social workers engage in research is to add to the body of knowledge in the field.

The whole purpose of using correlations in research is to figure out which variables are connected.
Descriptive research is conducted primarily to collect data about variables rather than to test
hypotheses about the relationships between variables. In another word a descriptive study is conducted
to describe how things are .
The Basic Elements of Researches are as follows:
Variables and Constants
A variable is any character, behavior, event that is capable of varying or exiting in at least two
different states, conditions or levels. Examples are gender, anxiety (high, low), and therapy (cognitive,
client centered). Whereas a constant is when a character restricts to a single state or condition.
Independent and dependent variables
A variable is an independent variable when it is believed to affect or alter status on another variable.
The independent variable is referred to as treatment or intervention and is symbolized with letter X.
Conversely, a variable is a dependent variable when status on the variable seems to depend on stats on
another variable. The dependent variable is considered as the outcome of treatment and is symbolized
with the letter Y.
Samples and sampling
A research design should clarify the population of interest and the method that will be used to select a
sample. The best way to make sure that a sample is representative of the population is to use one of
the following techniques.

Edgar Allan Poe s Influence On The Raven
Edgar Allan Poe was born January 19th, 1809 in Boston, Massachusetts where he was faced with a
tragedy at a very young age. He had to face the abandonment by his father and losing his mother as an
infant. However, Poe was adopted at the age of three by John and Frances Allan who raised him into
his adult years. Poe became a writer during the romantic era, but his creations were considered gothic
romantic. Some of his pieces of works included: Lenore, The Haunted Palace, The City in the Sea, A
Dream Within a Dream, The Raven, and much more.
The Raven was written in 1845 and is a poem of darkness, sorrow, heartache, and fear. The poem

If I were the narrator of the poem I would not mind the raven being perched over my chamber door
and I would merely ignore it. Once the raven enters my chambers, I would marvel at the small
creature that was so brave as to venture into the house. However, like the narrator I would be
questionable while it perched on the bust of Pallas. Obviously the narrator was spooked because of the
tapping he had heard earlier, though it should not have caused him to act so harshly towards the raven.
The raven could have been the symbol of death or the raven could not have been a symbol at all.
Overall Poe wrote a poem many could possibly relate to, changing your perspective and putting
yourself into the author or narrator s mind is very difficult to do. The troubling thought of having lost
a love is relatable, however, I personally do not understand the sudden change of mood the narrator
seemed to have. Possibly if it were me I would have ignored the tapping and fell right into a dreamless

The Two Shuttle Disasters
The case study of the two shuttle disasters, the Challenger occurred on January 28th 1986, and the
Columbia occurred on February 1st, 2003. Both majestic and yet mournful due to the loss of life on
both mission. The Challenger shuttle flight, OV 099 mission STS 51 L, broke apart 73 seconds into its
flight, leading to the deaths of all crew members which included five astronauts and two payload
specialists. The Challenger disaster was especially traumatic because young students watched
television that were placed in their classrooms so they could watch the launch that day. It was
fascinating that a school teacher was on board as a payload specialist (NASA, 1986.) With a school
teacher aboard the flight, it had sparked many interests because at several at young age, understood
that education was vital as to why there was such a failure and prevent future disasters. The Columbia
mission, STS 107, was interesting because the public was more aware of the risk that was being taken
upon re entry. During the launch a piece of insulating foam broke away from the external tank surface,
striking the left wing. In previous missions there had been evidence of this occurring which to
engineers was seen as minor. In the case of the Columbia craft failure, it was more serious because the
damaged section of the wing was damaged to the extent of which it allowed hot atmospheric gases to
penetrate the structure of the wing, pulling it apart, rendering the craft unstable. Once the structure

Disadvantages Of Lesbian Art
To group a subsection of artists under the umbrella term lesbian artists , is to do them and their art a
disservice. Lesbian artists are just as varied in their work as any other group of artists. Possibly it is
just easier for people to have labels so as to easily identify what they like or dislike. It seems as though
for some, it has been a selling point or marketing tool, for better or worse. According to Sadie Lee in
her essay for Outlooks, This means there exists a certain amount of tokenism where if someone were
in need of a lesbian artist (for equal opportunity reasons or in an attempt to be alternative or
controversial) my chances of being selected are rather good. She continues on to say that had she been
viewed on her skills as an artist alone, and not her sexuality, she would not have been given the
opportunities for exposure that she has had (Lee 124). So, is it imperative that we give a definitive
label to it? No, but Harmony Hammond puts it eloquently when she states, I like to think of lesbian art
as a braid with three strands, gender, sexuality, and art, though from time to time other strands, such as
history or identity are woven in and out...a flexible rope of incredible strength and beauty (Hammond
10). Although it defies singular definition lesbian art is as fluid and dynamic as the groups it tries to
encompass: women, lesbians, feminists, dykes, bisexuals, gender queer, and so on. While the term
lesbian art is relatively new, it is a product of

Pregnancies are a wonderful thing. Just imagine being able to create another human being and
bringing it into the world. Although this may be what the majority of mothers think, teen moms may
have a different perspective. They might have been forced into pregnancy and the child may be a
reoccurring thought of what happened to her. Chances are the teen will love her baby in the long run,
but in the beginning the teen most likely had different views. Teen pregnancy is a worldwide problem

Generally when a teen has a baby, society tends to make her seem like a monster, and that whatever
happened to cause this. She gets shunned and pushed into a dark place where she may not be capable
to provide the best care for herself or her baby. The duo may be ignored by their family and friends,
causing them to feel very isolated and alone, which could potentially lead to things such as insanity,
other mental health issues, or the worst case possible, death.
Unfortunately, if the teen gets to the point where she feels like there s no other option, she will most
likely turn to drugs and alcohol, making her situation even worse for herself and those around her. If
drugs or alcohol were involved before the teen knew she became pregnant, medical complications to
her or the baby are very likely. The teen has to stop drinking, or doing any type of drugs immediately
if she wants to keep her and her baby safe. If the mother gets hurt in anyway while she is pregnant, she

have a healthy lifestyle. Teen moms are more likely to have their babies born early, have miscarriages,

money. If the teen mother does not have any help from parents, family, or friends, she will most likely
not be able to pay for it and could cause harmful things to occur to her

Gender Bias in Education
Gender bias has existed in education since the inception of schooling. According to the National
Women s History Museum (NWHM), during the 1700 s, women were denied access to secondary
schooling, and were only given the most basic education deemed necessary to fulfill the women s
duties (NWHM 1). Research from the National Coalition for Women and Girls in Education
(NCWGE) has shown that when Title IX was introduced in 1972, girls were able to participate in any
state funded activity, resulting in protest from those who believed gender bias did not exist (NCWGE
1). The opposition argued that girls are just different from boys, and incapable of doing the same
things. The gender bias in schools across America, since the conception of schooling, has led to
hardships and stereotypes faced by females in education and society. During the 1700 s, the education
of women was basic. Some girls were taught how to read, strictly to read the Bible, and they were
taught skills considered useful, like knitting, sewing, and other household duties. It was considered
strange and undesirable for a woman to be well educated. As the 1800 s began, female academies
began to be formed, which provided women with a similar education to men, teaching math, writing,
reading, and history, but separate of the opposite gender. Heading into the 1900 s, African American
women were finally Higgins 2 given a proper education, although separate of whites (NWHM 3).

How Does Mortal Relationships Be Recognized By The...
In Cuba, there exists such a paradigm, by which many of the religions there are analyzed by. It even
extends to the limit of verifying whether or not a practice should be recognized by the government and
general population solely because of certain precepts that exist within the religion s infrastructure.
Creating a great divide between those who follow religions which are respected by the community and
those who follow religions eschewed by the same community. Such model holds true for the sects:
Regla de Ocha and Regla de Palo.
In many Afro Creole religions, before one can establish a connection between them and the divine

One method being cowrie shells (Mason, 18). The meticulous and strategically thrown cowrie shells

communicate, the orichas use cowrie shells to share a message to us humans.
Switching over to Regla de Palo, we see that this relationship seems a lot more strained and possessive
than one of Regla de Ocha. A major reason why many Cuban officials (and many laypeople) choose to
not outwardly partake in this religion is because of its known ability to backfire on those who are
followers, since they generally use the spirits for personal gain. A relationship with a spirit in Rela de
Ocha is similar to one of great abuse if we were to humanize the two parties. The spirit or muerto is
trapped in either a bottle or nganga and works for the person who wields the object of entrapment. The
main way a palero (priest) of Regla de Ocha establishes a relationship with a spirit is through the
collection of the bones of a passed priestess or priest. The process of obtaining bones from a person
not directly related to you is illegal in Cuba; however, exhumed skeletons which are claimed in time
are generally sold to paleros in search of new muertos to help them prosper. Since these disturbed
spirits do work on be half of those who hold their remains, if they are not treated with complete

Tactical Training For Medical Responders
Today s society has seen an increase of unpredictable violent events that require an increasing need for
tactical medical responders. While some if not all departments in the United States have a form of
Tactical Emergency Medical Support, in the present time it almost seems as if there is a growing need
for awareness, education, and personnel to have a tactical mindset. Tactical Emergency Medical
Support is an out of hospital EMS system that focuses on medical support for law enforcement special
operations missions. Although most emergency situations involve routine like situations such as a
mild allergic reaction or a person going in to cardiac arrest, Emergency Medical Responders need to

Individuals who engage in these attacks, use weapons that involve firearms mostly, improvised

have happened with mass causalities which presented a tactical challenge to emergency responders

Violence of Decolonization Essay
Violence of Decolonization
Frantz Fanon argues the decolonization must always be a violent phenomenon because resisting a
colonizing power using only politics will not work. Europeans justified colonization by treating it as
gods work. They believed that god wanted then to occupy all lands and spread the word of god to
savages of darker skin color. Fanon joined the Algerian Nationalist Movement when the Algeria was
being colonized be the French. Many examples of violence written of in The Wretched of the Earth
were taken from the struggle for independence in Algeria. Also the writing is sympathetic towards
colonized natives. Fanon claims decolonization causes violent actions from both settlers and natives
and creates intolerant ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Because politics seemed to be a dead end process, the natives felt that fighting was their only way to
regain independence.
Native revolts would rarely change anything politically; it gave individuals a temporary feeling that
they were not inferior to their oppressors by causing disorder (Fanon 94). When the settler s
dominance became imminent, Natives tended to struggle violently with themselves. The anger that
possessed for their oppressors was vented through crime and battles with other native tribes. Fanon
says that is was an excuse to ignore their oppressors, accept colonization of their land, and to allow
history to move on (Fanon 54).
European settlers had the idea that by some divine right, all land was created for them and the control
of the mother country. The land that that did not occupy would not prosper without their influence and
would go back to the middle ages (Fanon 51). The burden of God s good work entailed white men to
impose his European religion, medicines, and civilized practices onto natives that they believed to be
evil because of the plague and disease they carried. The natives were called savages or other primitive
nicknames because of their underdeveloped technology and weaponry compared to the settlers (Fanon
41). Settlers consider native s aggression as evil acts against god.
Natives see the settlers as the bringers of violence.

Judith Flanders Murder
The Invention of Murder by Judith Flanders is written from an objective point of view. Flanders does
not follow a specific narrative throughout the entire story, instead she focuses on a specific aspect of
the crime like the reaction of the newspapers or police. Flanders discusses each murder in depth and
some of society s reactions. Many of the reactions she discusses are from people writing plays or
novels based off an aspect of the crime. All of the information Flanders presents is from research she
has done. Since there is little narrative to follow, all of the information is just research compiled about
a certain crime. Flanders is a reliable narrator since she does not insert her opinion about the crimes

Comparing The Osage Firebird And A Life Painting Animals
The stories The Osage Firebird by Sudipta Bardhan and A Life Painting Animals by Diana Childress
both tell about the life of two girls who overcame barriers to find success. Betty Marie Tallchief, from
the story The Osage Firebird, becomes a great and well known ballerina although she faces prejudice,
criticism, and teasing when she was young. She turned into a great and successful ballerina because
she overcame many obstacles. Rosa Bonheur, from the story A Life Painting Animals, becomes a great
artist and famous for her works of art although she also faced prejudice and had disagreements with
her father. She did not let hurdles slow her down or stop her from being successful. Both of the
women in these stories had to overcome prejudice to get where they wanted to be in their career.
Marie faced prejudice because of her race and where she came from, but did not let that stop her from
getting where she wanted to be. When she was in school she would get teased because of her Osage
heritage and her name. Rosa also suffered from prejudice because she was a girl and did not get to go
to school for art. Instead she got taught at home by her dad who was also an artist and taught her how
to draw although she was not able to go to school. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Occupational Therapy Is A Career Which Helps To Assist
Occupational therapy is a career which helps to assist those that are unable to perform the basic skills
required in their specific occupation. It is best known for its unique nature, high demand, and potential
for extreme success and fulfillment. To understand occupational therapy, one must understand the
unique nature of the career. Therapists provide assistance in the areas of self help, paid and non paid
work, and leisure activities. Secondly, personal attributes, rigorous educational requirements, and
flexibility working with a vast age range in a variety of clinical settings contribute to occupational

Occupational therapists offer treatment in three different areas. First, they provide assistance with self
care activities such as walking, eating, communicating, personal care, or even shopping for food.
Secondly, they help individuals to be productive in whatever occupation they participate whether it is
paid work or not. Thirdly, they help with leisure activities such as socializing, sports, and other
outdoor activities.
When people are unable to participate in the daily activities of their occupation, Brown and Hollis
(2013) reported that people can experience a brief pause or disruption in their normal activities, a
deprived state of activity that can severely restrict social, cultural, or personal engagements, or create
an imbalance when a person becomes unoccupied, under occupied, or over occupied (p.1246).
Eventually, any of these lapses in functioning can create or intensify other physical or mental issues.
Santrock (2012) expressed that occupational therapists help people regain, develop, and build skills
that are important for independent functioning, health, well being, security, and happiness (p.45).
Perhaps occupational therapy on the whole can be described as utilizing multiple techniques to help
different people with one or several distinct impairments that hinder them at various times in their life.
Kronenberg and Pollard (2006) stated that occupational therapy is said to be based

Advantages Of Dispensationalism
1. Dispensationalism A Legitimate Theological System
Dispensationalism is a word that most theologians would sneer at because it is seen as a perversion of
the Scriptures. These theologians would not recognize the history of dispensationalism purely because
it would be seen as a relatively new system of interpreting Scripture. Dispensational theology receives
a lot of criticism because it is not properly understood.
Dispensationalism is mainly conservative in biblical interpretation and while there seems to be a
negative connotation to the word Evangelical ; those who subscribe to a dispensational view point are
evangelical Christians in a sense.

Dispensationalism depends primarily on Rightly dividing the Word as found in 2 Timothy 2:15. Other
distinctions could be the difference between the nation of Israel and the Body of Christ. This means
assessing the Scriptures just like any other piece of literature and to place the text within their primary
meaning and context. Too often with many theologians, verses are quoted out of context. One could

Pneumonia Is A Serious Disease
Introduction Globally, pneumonia is a serious disease that more often than not results in death.
However, with the exception of drug resistant strains, pneumonia is very preventable and easily
treated if caught early in the disease process. This is a summary of the disease process, clinical
presentation, and patient education about pneumonia. Pathophysiology Pneumonia is an infection of
the alveoli inside the lungs. It can have many causes including bacteria, viruses, fungi, or it may be a
consequence of another disease. The infection causes a purulent film to line the alveoli, which inhibits
gas exchange. It can be isolated to one lobe of the lungs (lobar pneumonia) or affect many areas of the
lungs (bronchopneumonia). The alveoli play the key role in gas exchange in the body and patients
may present with headache, vomiting and sweating, cough, dyspnea, and pleuritic pain. Causes
Pneumonia can have a variety of causes but the most common causes are viruses and bacteria.
Bacterial pneumonia is commonly caused by natural occurring bacteria that reside in the upper
respiratory tract and either through airborne droplet or defective defense mechanisms is able to
migrate into the lower respiratory tract and cause infection (Driver, 2014). Nair and Niederman found
the most common causes of bacterial pneumonia are Streptococcus pneumonia, Haemophilus
influenza type b, and Moraxella catarrhalis (2011). Viral pneumonia is generally caused by organisms
that originate in the

Morally Ambiguous Character In William Golding s Lord Of...
For a character to be morally ambiguous the reader cannot determine whether the character is purely
evil or purely good. Readers must take into account everything such as actions, dialogue, descriptions,
and interactions with other characters, weighing each as good or evil. William Golding s Lord of the
Flies portrays Ralph as a morally ambiguous character struggling to repulse the innate beast within
him and the boys. Ralph s morals are undetermined as the leader on the island, the role he plays in
Simon s death, and the civility he tries to maintain. Through Ralph being the leader on the island, it
shows him as a morally ambiguous character struggling with man s innate evil. Ralph is clearly
struggling to maintain calm when he says, I was chief, and you were going to do what I said. You talk.
But you can t even build huts then you go off hunting and let out the fire (Golding 70 71). Ralph talks
about him being chief in the past tense as if he no longer is because from the ways the boys are acting,
he does not feel that he is being respected. Ralph is annoyed that instead of building shelter the boys
play in the water and that instead of manning the fire, the only chance for the boys to be noticed, they
decide hunting is more important than being rescued. Ralph means well by these orders, he wants to
see that every boy on the island survives. At the same time he is struggling to be calm and he is not
doing a good job at it. Also as the leader Ralph is not the one

Virtues In Chretien s Knight Of The Cart
In Knight of the Cart, Chretien presents several conflicts between virtues and between virtues and
vices; generosity and compassion clash in the episode when Lancelot must repay a maiden s favor by
giving her the head of a defeated foe who begs for mercy, and throughout the work Lancelot must
balance love and reason as he proves himself a true lover. Chretien further explores the complexities
of virtues and vices through paralleling the father son relationships of the suitor knight and his father
and of Bademagu and Meleagant. Beyond simply depicting the relationships as representations of
rashness versus reason, Chretien humanizes the father son interactions by suggesting the sons

Chretien s word choice is significant: Bademagu is first described as most scrupulous and keen in
every matter of honour and right and who esteemed and practiced loyalty [emphasis mine] above all
other virtues (246). Bademagu s loyalty is what makes him unwilling to take his disapproval of
Meleagant s actions to the next step and truly act against him, even as he claims that if you
[Meleagant] ignore my advice, I won t care if he gets the better of you (247). In fact, Bademagu
protects his son from the consequences of his actions, firstly by keeping Guinevere securely confined,
safe from the lusts of men, even from that of my son (249), and secondly by relentlessly trying to
restrain and dissuade Meleagant, even if he cannot stop Meleagant from fighting Lancelot. By keeping
Guinevere from Meleagant (with the implication that Meleagant has considered raping her),
Bademagu ensures that Meleagant does not incur the king s wrath in a rash action that likely would
lead to a more severe punishment than a humiliating defeat in combat. Additionally, by intervening to
end the fight once Lancelot puts down his sword, and getting the barons to restrain Meleagant,
Bademagu ensures that Meleagant will not get himself killed, because he knows very well that
Lancelot has come too far to show mercy and will kill his son if he were to let them

  • 2. Comparing Mark Twain s The Prince And The Pauper Mark Twain, the author shows the misfortune of two very young boys of different class in the book of, The Prince and the Pauper. The illustrious Prince of England, Edward, and the lowly, youthful beggar of London streets, Tom, incidentally exchange their positions in life. One, a great prince of a whole kingdom, reduced to a beggar, and the other, a beggar raised to a position of power and prosperity. As the real prince struggles to attain scarcely as much as a scrap of food in the streets of London, poor unfortunate Tom will have a nightmare to remember because this was the very thing he dreamt of , but now he wants nothing to do with it.. During this turmoil and historical occurrence not only the boys were perplexed, but also the imperial court of his majesty King Henry the VIII. The noble court heard a rumor that Prince Edward perchance has gone mad. As the boys embark on this new journey of their lives, the boys will see what life was like for both of them. In this incredible story the boys and other characters will experience struggle for survival, injustice, and loyalty. No matter how much it hurts now, someday you will look back and realize your struggle changed your life for the better Terry ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Edward, cloaked in the protection of Tom s mother, saw that the woman out of love for her son took the brutal blows of her husband. The prince had never witnessed such a profound love up to now. Meanwhile, Tom had adapted his situation and acted like a prince. Tom became fond of his position, but there was part of him wishing and hoping that the real prince would arrive. Now Tom enjoyed his time at the Palace. Edward despised this incident, but all this misfortune taught the prince and Tom what the atmosphere felt like for both of them. • 3. Citizen Rankine Citizen Analysis Rankine reveals a tragic fact that even as a powerful developed country which believes in freedom and democracy, there are still so much injustice in US. This certainly would be ironic, wouldn t it? As what the book named, Citizen, legally, it means a natural person who has the nationality of a certain country, and according to the constitution of this country, he has the rights and obligations. From the point of view of its generation, as a legal concept, the citizen is closely linked with the democracy. However, in Rankine s prose, imagery and poetry, citizen becomes a powerful proof of the contemporary racism in America. For instance, in the p148, the waiter returns the card to your friend instead of you. The people in the restaurant ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Genetic Case Studies GENETIC CASE STUDIES 4 Case 1 Q1. This infant exhibits a genetic defect known as 21 hydroxylase deficiency classical congenital adrenal hyperplasia (CAH), which is an inherited disorder that affects the adrenal glands (What is 21 hydroxylase deficiency, 2010, NIH). The female infant in this case study exhibits the classic form of the condition, resulting in ambiguous genitalia. The adrenal glands are located on top of the kidneys and produce a variety of hormones that regulate many essential functions in the body. In people with 21 hydroxylase deficiency, the adrenal glands produce excess androgens, which are male sex hormones (What is 21 hydroxylase deficiency, 2010, NIH). Females with the condition may exhibit male sex traits such hirsutism and pattern baldness as well as irregular menstruation and impaired fertility. The source of the condition is a mutation in the CYP21A2 gene which is necessary for the creation of the enzyme 21 hydroxylase. This enzyme is found in the adrenal glands, where it plays a role in producing hormones called cortisol and aldosterone and without the enzyme, substances that are usually used to form cortisol and aldosterone instead build up in the adrenal glands and are converted to androgens. The excess production of androgens leads to abnormalities of sexual development in people with 21 hydroxylase deficiency (What is 21 hydroxylase deficiency, 2010, NIH). Q2. There is no known cure for this disorder. However, early ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Geico The average person encounters more than 600 advertisements per day through an expanding variety of media. As GEICO s V.P. of Advertising, I understand that choices must be made. We simply can not afford to make mistakes. Our ads need to be effective. The basic premise is that we want our ads to be noticed and memorable resulting in action taken by the consumer. A creative brief has been designed and will be utilized as a road map in helping us answer two important questions One Who are we talking to? and Two What do we want to say? The creative brief begins with identifying the objective of the advertisement. Geico wants to increase brand awareness and provide enough information in their ads that will result in the consumer ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The end state is any personal value the consumer may have. The theory also suggests using five elements when creating ads that include the product s attributes, the benefits the consumer receives from the product, a leverage point, personal values, and executional framework. I feel that Geico takes this theory into consideration when designing their ads. The product attribute of low cost is linked to the specific benefit of consumer savings. The leverage point for Geico is the link between the savings benefit and the personal values of accomplishment (saving money) and security. The brand s number one spokesman, the gecko was designed to help the viewers remember that he can save you money on your car insurance. Creative strategizing includes choosing the correct advertising appeal. Advertising appeals have been used throughout the years to create successful ads. Seven major types of ad appeals exist and they include: fear, humor, sex, rationality, music, emotion, and scarcity. After reviewing the creative brief, the type of appeal should be chosen for the product/service. More than one appeal can be employed if account executives and their client feel it is appropriate. Geico uses humor as their chief appeal in designing their advertisements. Ironically car insurance is not a fun or humorous product so to speak. On the contrary, it is necessary coverage that consumers hope to never use. Geico takes the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Strong Music Education Three fifths of the United States have made cuts to their music programs. Studies have shown that schools with good music education programs help students perform better on standardized tests. Many famous businessmen and woman also attribute their success to their musical background. Therefore schools should have strong music education programs so their students develop necessary skills for their careers, communicate better with others, and score higher on tests. First things first, the study of music develops necessary skills in the future of children s careers. Many celebrities and accomplished entrepreneurs have stated that their music education has helped them develop useful skills for their career. Joanne Lipman quotes Chuck Todd in her article Is Music the Key to Success? , he says, I ve always believed the reason I ve gotten ahead is by outworking other people . Todd has realized that practicing his french horn ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In the opinion of many it takes away from valuable time in other subjects. This is incorrect. When children gain music education they are able to become proficient in their classes. So the time out of class isn t making students less smart, it makes them more smart. Developing skills like endurance, creative thinking, and collaboration also come with music. There are many benefits to instructing children in music, so cutting the program would damage learning. All things considered, it doesn t make sense why states would cut the music programs of their schools. When students receive education they continue to grow and progress academically; in a like manner it is the same with music education. They are also being prepared to live in the real world by learning how to work at something until it s perfect and think of new solutions to problems. Therefore, schools should have strong music programs to help their students be ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

These events are where people dress up as a character of their choice and do activities. These two subjects that were chosen for this compare and contrast essay were picked out by a birthmark. A birthmark on me myself that looks like the Star Trek symbol. This birthmark has led me to want to know a little more about these two popular movies. There are many differences between Star Wars and Star Trek. For instance, the weaponry used. Star Wars used lightsabers, blasters, ion cannons, and laser cannons for weapons while in Star Trek multiple beams, pulse, and torpedo weapon types are used. In 1966, Star ... • 8. Disadvantages Of Satellites SATELLITE SYSTEMS World s first satellite Sputnik successfully launched by USSR 1957. Number of satellites has significantly increased to over 1,100 operational satellites, with over 2000 obsolete satellites since the first launch. Satellites either orbit the earth as a geostationary or non geostationary. Geostationary stationary in the sky above a fixed point on the surface. The increasing amount of old satellites and space debris has risen concerns for collisions with current satellites. GLOBAL POSITIONING SYSTEMS (GPS) Global Positioning Satellite (GPS) systems are used to determine the exact location of a number of modes of transport (e.g., airplanes, cars, ships, etc). GPS works in 2 parts Satellites surrounding the Earth transmit signals to the surface. A network of satellites constantly broadcast a time signal, including it s position and time; each satellite has an Atomic clock (used in the satellites which are accurate clocks within a fraction of a second per day) which broadcasts the time signal at the speed of light (about 299 792 458 m / s). The receiver then receives the signal, it can usually receive signals from 6 to 8 of them, and compares the time it took each signal to travel from the satellite to the receiver. By doing so, it is able to triangulate and determine it s position on earth, quite accurately (within 5 and 50 metres). The computer on board the mode of transport calculates its exact position based on the information from at least ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Mother In Refugee Camp Poem Analysis Remember by Christina Rossetti, Mother in Refugee Camp by Chinua Achebe and War Photographer by Carol Ann Duffy all explore different perspectives of death and its inevitability. In the poem Mother in Refugee Camp, Chinua Achebe exposes the reader to the realistic and horrific conditions of a refugee camp, culminating in the lamentable death of the child. The language, the use of metaphors and similes and structure call attention to the idea of cyclical death in a refugee camp. The poem War Photographer explores the continual cycle of death in war zones. Duffy examines the predicament the war photographer faces whether to intervene in the ongoing conflict or to uncover the reality and destruction of conflict. However, Remember exhibits a ... The real estate speculation made the city grow with hardly any urban planning and very few and far apart parks. Green areas were seen and reserved to leisure time and not a necessary part for the city the lack of contact with nature and it is evident there. The fact is almost no one know there is urban agriculture in Sao Paulo, even with its many problems few initiatives are dotted around the city. Boeing has become one of the world s biggest manufacturers when it comes to military and commercial planes and parts. There are two major corporations within the aircraft industry that are big competitors and share a great rivalry with each other and they are the Boeing and Airbus Corporations. The corporations have been competing with each other for many years when it comes to finding potential contracts for their airplane and also creating different and unique aircraft models for their targeted customers. • 13. Seizing the Day in Robert Herrick’s poem, “To the... To what extent may an argument be framed as believable or serious? Persuasion on seizing the day is a common theme in Robert Herrick s poem, To the Virgins, To Make Much of Time and Andrew Marvel s To His Coy Mistress . The arguments within the poems can seem unrealistic, a little hyperbolic, with an underlying intent to acquire a woman to sleep with them. The concrete position of all the arguments within the two poems seems to be, getting a woman to sleep with them. The two poets posses similarities between the two pieces of poetry, however argue the topics in different ways. Beauty is not forever lasting, coyness put aside, while pleasure embraced, and time is of the essence; are all points made to intrigue women to be with them. To focus on those points a little: The beauty of a woman is compared to aspects of nature. Herrick s poem only looks at the physical qualities of a woman, unlike Marvel s, which references personality along with physical traits. Sexual passion embraced, and coyness set aside? The poets, both urge women to act upon sexual urges while they stay youthful, but if a woman was told they are not going to be desired when older, would they actually want to be with someone who tells them that? Time is moving quickly and its made known within the poems. Herrick is an advocate to relate everything to physical aspects, so of course he says a woman s beauty diminishes quickly. Marvel does not relate beauty and time together, instead he would ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

If left untreated, physical exhaustion can lead to physical ailments such as dizziness, colds, headaches, chronic pain, and digestive problems and even impaired functioning of other body systems. (Espeland, 2006, p. 180) Emotional Exhaustion Similar to physical exhaustion, emotional exhaustion results from depletion of emotional resources and failure to restore one s own emotional equilibrium. (Moore, 2009, p. 1) In today s busy society the demands of life, job and family can be excessive and overwhelming. Combine these demands with the additional stressors of caring for another person or persons, increased demands of productivity with decreased personnel and the unrealistic expectations of one s self or others and place all of this burden on one person, this would adequately describe the 21st century nurse. Nurses are continually engaged in emotional relationships with patients and their families which call upon the nurse to be in a constant supporting role. Critique Of Sigmund Freud s Psychoosexual Development Theory Psychosexual Development Theory Sigmund Freud s psychosexual development theory states the role of parents with the basic sexual desires of children in developing their personalities. This theory is concerned on the sexual pleasure received from specific body parts and sexual activities. Ku, (2011) argues with Freud s recommendation on encouraging children s tendencies stating that parents will try to guide children toward moderation in all things. According to Ku (2011), Freud s theory helped scientists to have a further look into human behavior development. The major critique on this theory is that this theory is more focused on human sexuality. Cherry (n.d.) states four major critiques to Freud s theory as follows:  Freud was believed to have worked with troubled adults in developing this theory, rather than working with children,  Feminists criticize this theory as this is focused mainly on male development,  Freud s theory is difficult to test scientifically as concepts like libido cannot be measured and tested, and  As there is a long time between childhood and adulthood, it cannot be said that childhood experiences affects adult personality. John Scopes Research Paper Alex Poppe Mrs. Lilley English III 14 April 2016 The Effect of the Scopes Trial on Education The 1920s was a decade of significant importance in the world of science. In 1859, Charles Darwin declared his theory of evolution humans had descended from apes. This ideology was unpopular throughout the minds of freedom and Jesus loving Americans. Although 1920 s technology was on its way to new findings, the traditionally southern public eye didn t seem to be fascinated with the thought of people descending from humongous and hairy beings. The American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) supported Darwin s theory, though. The Union was formed to protect the rights proclaimed by the Constitution and Bill of Rights. With that mission in mind, the ACLU paid for John Scopes defense team and promoted that he challenge the law (Leinwand 206). John Scopes was a science teacher in Dayton, Tennessee, specializing in biology. He used a state approved textbook to teach his students, but because the book included Darwin s theory of evolution, Scopes was not legally able to teach that portion of the text. It s called febrile infection related epileptic syndrome, more commonly known as FIRES. I happen to know one of the few people who have this type of epilepsy. Her name is Kailee, and she goes to my brother s school. She was even in some of his classes. This type of epilepsy occurs in school aged children between the ages of six and seventeen ( What is FIRES? ). It starts with a mild febrile illness that lasts anywhere from four days to two weeks. Febrile illness is when someone has a fever but they aren t sick with anything else ( Febrile Illness ). When Kaylee was at this point, her mom thought she had the flu. This is very common, as the flu presents itself as a fever in many children. Then, the child starts to have seizures. The seizures occur very quickly, and the child needs to be hospitalized immediately at this point. Some scientists think the disease is a result of an autoimmune response, while others think the seizures are caused by a malfunction in the metabolic process of some cells. Both of these theories have little evidence to support them. FIRES could be a result of the febrile illness that comes before the seizures. The Challenger shuttle flight, OV 099 mission STS 51 L, broke apart 73 seconds into its flight, leading to the deaths of all crew members which included five astronauts and two payload specialists. The Challenger disaster was especially traumatic because young students watched television that were placed in their classrooms so they could watch the launch that day. It was fascinating that a school teacher was on board as a payload specialist (NASA, 1986.) With a school teacher aboard the flight, it had sparked many interests because at several at young age, understood that education was vital as to why there was such a failure and prevent future disasters. The Columbia mission, STS 107, was interesting because the public was more aware of the risk that was being taken upon re entry. During the launch a piece of insulating foam broke away from the external tank surface, striking the left wing. In previous missions there had been evidence of this occurring which to engineers was seen as minor. According to the National Women s History Museum (NWHM), during the 1700 s, women were denied access to secondary schooling, and were only given the most basic education deemed necessary to fulfill the women s duties (NWHM 1). Research from the National Coalition for Women and Girls in Education (NCWGE) has shown that when Title IX was introduced in 1972, girls were able to participate in any state funded activity, resulting in protest from those who believed gender bias did not exist (NCWGE 1). The opposition argued that girls are just different from boys, and incapable of doing the same things. The gender bias in schools across America, since the conception of schooling, has led to hardships and stereotypes faced by females in education and society. During the 1700 s, the education of women was basic. Some girls were taught how to read, strictly to read the Bible, and they were taught skills considered useful, like knitting, sewing, and other household duties. It was considered strange and undesirable for a woman to be well educated. As the 1800 s began, female academies began to be formed, which provided women with a similar education to men, teaching math, writing, reading, and history, but separate of the opposite gender. However, with the exception of drug resistant strains, pneumonia is very preventable and easily treated if caught early in the disease process. This is a summary of the disease process, clinical presentation, and patient education about pneumonia. Pathophysiology Pneumonia is an infection of the alveoli inside the lungs. It can have many causes including bacteria, viruses, fungi, or it may be a consequence of another disease. The infection causes a purulent film to line the alveoli, which inhibits gas exchange. It can be isolated to one lobe of the lungs (lobar pneumonia) or affect many areas of the lungs (bronchopneumonia). The alveoli play the key role in gas exchange in the body and patients may present with headache, vomiting and sweating, cough, dyspnea, and pleuritic pain. Causes Pneumonia can have a variety of causes but the most common causes are viruses and bacteria. Bacterial pneumonia is commonly caused by natural occurring bacteria that reside in the upper respiratory tract and either through airborne droplet or defective defense mechanisms is able to migrate into the lower respiratory tract and cause infection (Driver, 2014). Nair and Niederman found the most common causes of bacterial pneumonia are Streptococcus pneumonia, Haemophilus influenza type b, and Moraxella catarrhalis (2011). William Golding s Lord of the Flies portrays Ralph as a morally ambiguous character struggling to repulse the innate beast within him and the boys. Ralph s morals are undetermined as the leader on the island, the role he plays in Simon s death, and the civility he tries to maintain. Through Ralph being the leader on the island, it shows him as a morally ambiguous character struggling with man s innate evil.
