Us Vs Japan
Chapter Four Case 2 US vs. Japan, research 4 20
As an international student I am lucky enough to be able to provide a unique outsider s perspective on
some of the cultural difference and similarities between Japan and U.S.A. I try to do this by using my
own customs and traditions as a tool to compare that of the two countries. I use religion, political
stance, formality, collectivist vs individualistic ways of thinking and traditions that they share as a
rubric to measure the similarities and differences between the two. As an international student I also
have the unique opportunity to get insight from my personal friend from Japan, Kazuki Sona.

In the case study it mentions that more is expected from the employees of Nomura compared to the
more casual and lenient employees of Lehman. Employees of Nomura have to look and act a certain
way (some of which, in my opinion does not fully reflect the Japanese culture). The women were
separated from the men in training, which would obviously raise a red flag had it been employees of
Lehman.
For two companies of such severe differences and little commonalities to get along, it requires great
patience, and an even greater deal of tolerance. In the last paragraph of the case study it talks about the
last minute efforts that Nomura did, before the Ex executive of Lehman left. We also get a sense of
unpreparedness from both companies; that, one did not do homework on the needs and wants of the
other. Had they have been more flexible of their cultural beliefs, and worked harder at diversifying
their workgroup from the gecko, the outcome might have been different. And both companies would
not have had to work so hard to understand the

Watson University Case Study
What challenges/opportunities were identified by the trends identified in the guiding questions above?
Different from profit oriented corporations, Watson University, as a nonprofit organization, is financed
mainly based on the basis of need. Tracking the contributions made to the organization and how they
are spent are more important than to purse a profit margin.
According to the financial report of Watson University from 1975 to 1984, Watson University
successfully identified its financial problems in debt structure, sources of funds and uses of funds. For
example, Watson curtailed its borrowing by completing the dormitory building program and soliciting
government grants for new construction projects to reduce the debt amount. On the ... Show more

Watson was too tuition dependent. And the loss in the proportion of government appropriations led the
problem got worse. (1)
What other factors (i.e., figures, statistics, data, etc.) do you think should be analyzed when studying
the financial statements of nonprofit organizations such as Watson University ?
As a private university, enrollment trend is the key to improve the financial statements of Watson
University since Watson was very tuition dependent. However, increasing enrollment trend needs
various supports such as academic reputation, financial aid, physical and social environment, career
preparation and etc. (2)
Moreover, the total and constructions of expenditures is another factor should be considered in the
financial statements. According to the analysis reported, the total educational expenditures of Watson
University increased by 113 percent included instructional expenditures had increased 95 percent
during this period. If the financial statement could include the data such as expense per tuition dollar,
account receivables and payables turnover rates, endowment yields, times interest coverage ratio,
which would be helpful to identify the financial problems.

Comparison Of Porphyrias Lover And The Flea
Porphyrias Lover, My Last Duchess and The Flea all have the theme of love in them
Porphyrias Lover, My Last Duchess and The Flea all have the theme of love in them. But they are not
all the same theme of love for example
Porphyrias Lover is obsessive and seductive love whereas; The Flea is more like sexual love. Robert
Browning writes both Porphyrias Lover and My Last Duchess and John Donne writes The Flea. I
think
Porphyrias Lover and My Last Duchess are alike as Robert Browning uses similar themes of love in
them e.g. Obsessive and Possessive. The
Flea is a completely different poem altogether. It is more of a sexual poem rather than obsessive but it
could be argued that it is obsessive as well because the male is obsessed ... Show more content on

The Flea is quite alike Porphyrias Lover. The type of love that is used in The Flea is sexual love. In
The Flea the poet attempts to seduce his mistress by overcoming her coyness through argument. The
poem although sexual is also religious aswel, And sacrilege, three sins in killing three. This quote
shows a religious side to the poem because she is being unreligious and she is making three sins as she
is killing three people The Flea, herself and the poet, the poet makes the Flea represent himself and his
mistress and says, Three lives in one flea spare. This poem ends with the mistress squashing the Flea
and therefore killing their love. I think that this poem could be related to Porphyrias Lover a little bit
because the poet is very keen and obsessed with getting his mistress into bed but unlike
Porphyrias Lover it is the male trying to seduce and bed his mistress not the other way around.
My Last Duchess is more like Porphyrias Lover than The Flea because in this poem by Robert
Browning he does not seduce his mistress instead he kills her. The type of love that is shown in this
poem is possessive. This Poem is about a Duke and his Mistress, in the poem the duke gets jealous
and possessive over his Duchess She thanked men good! But thanked somehow I know not how as if
she ranked my gift of a nine hundred years old name with anybody s gift. This quote not only shows

Pablo Escobar
Pablo Escobar Introduction Pablo Escobar was a man of power and riches during his time in history.
Escobar was listed as the seventh richest man in the world in 1989. Coming from Medellin, the second
largest city in Colombia, Escobar started off as a small time gangster and a car thief. His small time
crimes would never amount to what he was going to become. In the late 1970 s Escobar and his cartel
became one of the most powerful organized crime organizations. The cartel consolidated the cocaine
industry controlling as much as 80 percent of cocaine worldwide. This paper dives deep into the life
and rise of Pablo Escobar. Early Life Pablo Escobar was born second child in San Jose, Costa Rica in

to enter due to the highly motivated and bribed Colombian military prison guards. Pablo began
conducting business by carrier pigeon and word of mouth. As soon as he realized that his phone
conversations were being tapped, Pablo, left his swanky jail in 1992. His empire was being abused
from all sides. His fields were burning, his dealers were changing teams, and the coke fueled disco
was giving way to the ecstasy powered rave. While on the run, he placed a bounty on the heads of all
police officers, American citizens, and military personnel within Medellin. He paid $300 a head. For
the poor folks of this Colombian town, the bounty was a lot of money. Dozens of cops and officials
were slaughtered and decapitated while Pablo was on the run. (Thompson 69 88) The only thing that
everyone knew was that La Catedral was no prison. Escobar had paid to have it built on the site of one
of his favorite resort hideaways near Medellin. Escobar lived like a king where he threw parties with
gourmet food and booze, beautiful women as well. Escobar ran his narcotics empire by phone and

Essay on The Concept of Moral Panics
The Concept of Moral Panics A moral panic is said to occur when the media mobilises public opinion
around the condemnation of deviance ( Media coverage of deviance: moral panics , lecture handout,
07 10 02). Deviance, in this context, refers to the violation of social norms and values, and the
subsequent disruption of social order. This essay will begin with a clarification of the terms moral
panic and deviance and outline how the two concepts are related. It will then describe the processes of
news reporting while making reference to Stanley Cohen s established case study of the 1964 Bank
Holiday fracas in Clacton, England as an example of such a media fuelled moral ... Show more

Leslie Wilkins in her extract titled Information and the definition of deviance (Cohen and Young,
1974, p.36) supports this relativist view and uses culture to illustrate how deviance is subjective. She
explains how many cultures prior to Western contact held definitions of normality which were out of
accord with existing Western values. However, once the cultures made contact, the Western interlopers
would redefine the indigenous cultures perceptions of normality and deviance. Thus, distinct value
systems do exist, but the more powerful groups in a society routinely impose their own values on
others. The mass media is a crucial influence on the public perception of deviance. When it focuses on
deviance, it shapes opinions on what constitutes deviant behaviour and provides a symbolic cement
for a consensus of values ( Media coverage of deviance: moral panics , lecture handout, 07 10 02).
And as previously stated, when the media s focus on such deviance instigates a vehement public
denunciation of the associated problem , it is said to be encouraging moral panic. In his study Folk
Devils and Moral Panics , Stanley Cohen suggests that a moral panic often occurs when a condition,
episode, person or group of persons emerges to become defined as a threat to societal values and
interests

Drug Testing and Legalization of Marijuana
For over a century the legalization of medical marijuana in the United States has been a growing
controversy. Washington and Colorado are the two recent states that have legalized the use of
marijuana for recreational uses. In contrast, others in federal positions believe the use of marijuana has
no beneficial use to it which creates a struggle into its legalization. Marijuana is classified as a
Schedule 1 drug believed to be dangerous and highly addictive, also thought to be a gateway drug
leading to a dark path of drug abuse. Most of these poor assumptions are supported and investigated to
be incorrect by many researchers and first hand users. The strict drug laws around the United States
have made tests of marijuana s effectiveness ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In one case a young lady got approval from her doctor to use marijuana to treat her asthma. As the
years past she noticed a decrease in her asthma attacks and relief in her symptoms. As a result
smoking low doses of cannabis almost completely cured this young lady s case of asthma.
Marijuana has been used for thousands of years to treat many conditions and has never caused a single
human death. The 1999 institute of medicine proved that it did not in any part reach the legal
definition of a schedule 1 drug the US law put it under. The institute of medicine established that
marijuana has positive medical benefits in a variation of illnesses and has a lower chance for drug
abuse than alcohol and tobacco which have a higher rate of being a gateway drug used by minors. In
1988 the Drug enforcement administration also started to investigate the medical uses of marijuana.
As a result the DEA discovered that there are positive medical uses for marijuana and was uncovered
to be one of the safest substances known to man DEAAdministrative Law Judge Francis Young said
during a two year hearing on marijuana for medical use. Soon after the facts about the acceptable
medical uses of marijuana were noted it started to attention publicly, increasing its popularity and
supporters quickly.
According to the latest research on marijuana science indicates that the natural occurrence of

Hysterectomy In Surgery
New Surgical Technique has Dangerous Side Affects
Over half a million women will undergo hysterectomies this year [according to whom?]. Many of
these surgeries are performed to remove fibroids, as well. These benign growths in the uterus typically
cause pain, bleeding, and other symptoms. There are several techniques used by medical professionals
to perform a hysterectomy and to remove fibroid tumors, but one the power morcellator has raised
serious cause for concern.
The Power Morcellator
The power morcellator is a device that has been used in laparoscopic surgeries over the last 10 years
or so to remove fibroids, the uterus, or both. This procedure is less invasive than an open
hysterectomy with a shorter recovery time for patients, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Because it is more invasive, it is attached to six weeks of recovery and a large scar. There is also an
increased rate of complications from blood clots and infections with this surgery.
Vaginal Hysterectomy
This procedure uses the technology of the laparoscope to cut away the uterus, which is then removed
through the vaginal canal. The morcellator is NOT part of this technique. Because there are minimal
incisions, the recovery time is dropped to approximately two weeks. There is decreased rate of clotting
or infection, and 20% of hysterectomies are currently being performed using this technique. This
procedure is not utilized if the patient has an enlarged uterus or extremely large fibroids.
Other Techniques
There are some additional techniques that have been used to rid the uterus of fibroids including
ultrasound surgery and embolization. The ultrasound surgery uses sound waves to heat and destroy
fibroids, while embolization cuts off the blood supply to the fibroids, causing them to shrink and die.
If you are evaluating the different procedures for a hysterectomy or fibroid removal, we encourage
you to carefully consider your options and the risks

The Gossip Of The Cyclers

From 1894 to 1899, the New York Times published a series of articles on the happenings in cycling
called, The Gossip of the Cyclers . This series of articles covered everything from cycling club politics
to trends in cycling. One of the more important things written about was the Good Roads Movement.
The Good Roads Movement was a movement started by cyclists in the 1880 s that rallied for, and
eventually helped create the roads that are used today, or at least the structure of some of the roads.
The Good Roads Movement had a variety of people involved, but a large organization involved was

The Institution of Slave Trade Essay
The Institution of Slave Trade
The institution of slave trade and the actual experiences of slavery that occurred in the Caribbean were
to form a monumental part of that region s culture, society, and everyday interactions, both in the past
and in the present. The culture that is present today in the Caribbean is the result of many different
influences varying from those introduced by ruling colonial countries, to influences that the slaves

In fact many historians to this day debate over the question of whether or not the plantations even
made any profit over their period of existence.
More and more pirates emerged as the demand for sugar continued to increase, and therefore more and
more slaves were also needed. After these pirates attacked slave ships en route to the Caribbean, they
would take the slaves and trade them in the Caribbean for sugar, molasses, and rum and make their
way back to Europe top begin the process all over again.
Because these pirates did not differentiate between the countries ships that they attacked (excluding
their own), they began some of the first mixing of slaves and cultures into one group. Often times they
would take the non black deckhands of the attacked ship and either make them slaves as well, or
assign them to deck duty upon their own ship. This general small scale mixing was the beginning to
what was to ensue on a much larger scale in the very near future.
Another area that began to increase the tendency for cultural and social mixing was the fact that as
more and more pirates sailed the sea, counties began to send less and less of their commissioned trade
ships. As fewer and fewer of these countries vessels made contact with their various plantation
colonies in the Caribbean, their cultural influence on them

The Importance Of Music And Language
Music and language share a commonality; the same way phrases are structured in music, can be seen
when thoughts are structured in sentences of different languages. Music plays a role in memory,
auditory attention, and different structures of language, such as the syntax and phonemes, which can
improve on reading and writing skills. Bidelman et al. has shown that when it comes to music and
language, speech pitch processing can differ between musicians and non musicians, where there are
evidence that music can show sensitivity to the pitch sound toward musicians. It can also depend on
musicians who speak foreign languages, which will focus on the influence of domain specific
experience on the encoding of pitch. It can also depend on musical expertise. Rochette et al. has used
musical lessons on deaf children to test if musical education plays a factor on them, since other studies
have shown that music being able to use auditory perception, auditory cognition, and phonetic
discrimination. The results showed that those who were trained acquired the skills more than those
who weren t and is an excellent strategy for increasing linguistic processing. On the emotional side,
Ma and Thompson wanted to show that acoustic environments, such as sounds from human actions,
animal calls, etc. can change human emotions. The hypothesis of music and speech being closely
related brought the idea of the musical protolanguage hypothesis, that songlike communication was
used in courtship and

Psychological Analysis of Breaking Bad
Breaking Bad Watching the Breaking Bad series helped me understand how one s superego can
deteriorate into their id following Freud s psychoanalytic theory. Walter White, the anti hero, takes us
on a journey which vividly illustrates Freud s thesis. From watching the series and reading critiques on
the Freudian aspect, I will develop my own report on: How ones selfishness takes over causing them
to be driven by their id ~ Focusing on Walter White from Breaking Bad The balance between the
angel (superego) on the right and the devil (id) on the left is the primary principle surrounding
Sigmund Freud s theory that ones id and superego is the framework for our psychology. Breaking Bad
(2008 2013), a TV series created by Vince Gilligan is a leading example of Freud s theory as we are
taken on a passage of the life of Walter White. We gain insights into his psychology, observing him
how Sigmund Freud may have. As Walter s train of thought changes throughout the series, we can
directly relate it to Freud s Psychoanalytic Theory. A high school chemistry teacher who did
everything by the book, not putting a finger out of line is who we are greeted by on the first episodes
of Breaking Bad. Walter White is portrayed initially as a passive man who is careful to do everything
morally, his superego strongly evident within him. This is clearly shown in the first episode Pilot
(season 1, episode 1) when Walter is working at the car wash and his boss makes him

Social Themes In Cry, The Beloved Country By Alan Paton
Cry, the Beloved Country by Alan Paton In the novel, Cry, the Beloved Country by Alan Paton, it
follows the narratives of Stephen Kumalo and James Jarvis as they struggle to keep their families
together and deal with the loss of their sons. During the story, Stephen Kumalo shows the readers his
country through his eyes as he travels to Johannesburg to save his sister, Gertrude. As he finds
Gertrude, he comes to know that his son, Absalom, has been caught up in criminal activities during his
tenure in Johannesburg. So, Kumalo tracks down his son to find out that he killed James Jarvis s son,
Arthur Jarvis. This shows the change that moving to an urbanized area can make on a person. A man
that was once kind, humble, and living on the farm with his family turned into an anxious and scared
man in a big city. In the novel, Cry, the Beloved Country by Alan Paton, the motif of contrasting
images found in the rural versus the urban landscape is depicted through the difference in social class,
lack of care for the human life, and the destruction of families. The difference in social class is a
glaring problem in the novel, Cry, the Beloved ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The Learning Theory influences everyone s culture, ethnicity, gender, and social status, by being from

comes to learning or problem solving. One of the most important events in a human s life is the
Learning Theory . This process takes place from the minute we are born. Information is taken in and
absorbed, in turn builds one s ability to retain what one has learned. Many factors aid in the learning
process which includes ones environment, past experiences, and one s emotion which all play a
rewarding understanding on how ones sees the world and retain information around them. B. F.

stimulus and can be conditioned) and operant behavior (that which produces consequences that tend to
be repeated when reinforced and discontinued when not reinforced). Many different practice models
have developed from the theories of the behaviorists, who operate by setting up controlled situations
in which behavior can be conditioned and reinforced. These models are widely used in teaching, in
treating problems of human relationships, and in working with personal problems that lead to
destructive behaviors. As behavior modification develops, certain features are assuming greater
importance. One is the detailed specification of objectives with the possibility of sub goals that serve

Is Macbeth really a good person? In Macbeth, by William Shakespeare, the main character Macbeth is
married to his wife Lady Macbeth. Macbeth is first the Thane of Glamis then becomes the Thane of
Cawdor and then becomes the king of Scotland. Macbeth starts off as a nobody and then becomes a
tyrant. The tragic hero evolves throughout the play seen through the blood motif. Macbeth goes from
being brave to guilty to brave because of Lady Macbeth s greed for power.
At first, blood represents Macbeth s bravery because he is willing to do anything to protect his
country. Macbeth shows his bravery by fighting and killing enemies during war: For brave Macbeth
(well he deserves that name),/Disdaining Fortune, with his brandished steel,/Which smoked with
bloody execution (I. ii. 18 20). The use of the blood motif signifies Macbeth s bravery. Macbeth uses
his sword to kill many people who may hurt Scotland. Macbeth is extremely brave in this situation
because he is killing people and fighting in a war which is extremely dangerous and risky to himself.

Doppler Effect: the principle of this effect is well known in the study of sound. It is known that if the
source of sound, emitting a note of frequency v is move with a constant velocity V relative to an
observers, it is found that the observer p perceives a sound having the frequency v which differs from
v , being greater or smaller according to the source is move towards or away from observers. This
phenomenon in sound was first explained by Doppler and hence the name Doppler effect. But Fizeau
showed that the same effect on light. Thus if the source of light is moving with a wavelength observed
in the Spectroscope slightly different from the original wavelength.
The principle of speed camera that is the Doppler s effect can be described by the formula fM =
2vfEcos(α/c)
Where
fM if the frequency of the received signal v is the speed of vehicles fE if the frequency of transmitted
signal α is the angle between the transmitted signal and path along which the vehicle travels c is
propagation speed of the signal in the air.

The first part is going to aim on the internal structure of NPs. Complex nominal phrase consists of the
pre modifying elements, the head noun and the post modifying elements. The so called pre modifiers
can be divided into two groups: determiners and prenominals. We have to say that „determiners are

Theyi killed each otheri. And the translation into Czech: (a2) Oni je zabili. (b2) Oni se zabili. (c2) Oni
se zabili (navzájem). The example (a1) has the index i with the pronoun they and the index k with the
accusative case of the pronoun they, which means that the pronoun they have a meaning of „people ,
which are NOT the people included in the meaning of them, i.e. them has the so called disjoined

accusative cases of the pronoun they are used to mark different (groups of) people. (12) (13) (14) The
thievesi killed themk. The thievesi killed the thievesk. *The thievesi killed the thievesi. → the thieves
≠ them → they are not the same thieves so they cannot have the same index
The example (b1) has the index i in both cases it means that they and themselves includes the same
people. Because themselves is a reflexive pronoun, we know that the group of people indicated in they

Approach to Persuasion Essay example
Embracing an individual s point of view by means of reasoning, argument or entreaty is an act of
persuasion. An individual is regularly confronted by persuasion throughout their everyday life. It takes
place in various situations that are categorized in three sections, the appeal to emotion, the appeal to
reason, and the appeal to one s character. Furthermore, this leads to an influential aspect. It is from one
s characteristic to be influenced by persuasion, thus, to be overlooked by outside sources. This is not

Persuasion appears various forms. In life, the world often offers and persuades negative and positive
examples using ethos, pathos and logo. Many advertisements advertise harmful and others advertise
substances and people tend to respond variously towards persuasion. Some believe they are immune to
persuasion, yet persuasion can be subtle. How an individual responds to persuasion can depend on a
variety of factors. The main factor implies on the audience themselves. In order to persuade, one must
analyze the audience. The audience may appear differently; there are supportive audiences whom
begin with support, there are uncommitted audiences whom are neutral, there are also indifferent
audiences whom need the persuader to grab their attention, and there is also the opposed audience.
The opposed audience are the hardest to convince; they are against the persuader from the start. The
same techniques of Pathos, Ethos, and Logos apply, but with the use of different extents.
Motivation is a necessary method for persuasion. Motivation acts as an incentive for the audience to
act or behave in a certain way. This method causes an individual to act the way they act, and do the
things they do, moreover, refuse doing the things they do not want to. Motivation acts as a guide in an
individual s life. In many scenarios, one s motivation is fear. The fear may be of losing a need, or

Athena greek goddess of war and wisdom was one of the most powerful goddesses in the greek

He began to rebuild from the remains of the Nation of Islam.
During the early 1960 s, Elijah Muhammad became known as the Honorable Elijah Muhammad and
was well on the way to establishing governmental order for black people. He always showed
tremendous love for the black community.
IN 1974, The Honorable Elijah Muhammad completed a 40 year period (1934 1974). The year 1934 ,
represents the time in which he was left on his own by Master Fard Muhammad. The completion of
this period climaxed a historic Saviors Day address, when he spoke on The Black God.

MINISTER LOUIS FARRAKHAN
As a boy, his mother would give him the CRISIS MAGAZINE (an NAACP publication) to read as
well as the black newspapers that were available. His mother, being a very dark and beautiful woman,
wanted him to have a healthy respect and love for black people.
Many times as a young child he would cry himself to sleep after hearing his mother and her friends
talk about the plight of black people. He remembers how he would lay on the floor, looking up at the
blue sky, asking God, why he would send help to other people and not to the black people in America?
One day when Minister Farrakhan was eleven years old, he visited his uncle in New York City and he
saw a picture of a black man on the wall of his uncle s apartment, which was something very strange
in the forties. He asked

The Implementation Of Basel IIi
1 On 20 May this year the Amendment to the Banks Act regulations ( Regulations ) in terms of section
90 of the Banks Act, 1990 ( Banks Act ) were published in the government gazette and will come into
effect on 1 July 2016. A number of cosmetic changes have been made to the Regulations but a few
material changes will be highlighted in this alert. 2 Subsequent to the implementation of Basel III in
South Africa on 1 January 2013, the Basel Committee on Banking Supervision ( BCBS ) issued
revised requirements in respect of a wide range of matters which necessitated amendments to our
regulations. The Regulations now cater for the changes to capital disclosure requirements, changes to
the Liquidity Coverage Ratio ( LCR ), requirements related to intraday liquidity management and
public disclosure requirements related to the LCR. 3 Regulation 38(16) was amended to incorporate
South African Reserve Bank ( SARB ) Directive 05/2014 which dealt with obtaining the Registrar of
Banks consent before reducing qualifying capital and reserve funds. Regulation 38(5)(a)(i)(K) which
deals with deductions which need to be made from a bank s common equity tier 1 capital and reserve
funds has been amended to include investment in a foreign branch in order to clarify the treatment of
capital invested in foreign branches. 4 Regulation 38(17) dealing with the calculation of a banks LCR
has been substituted by a new Regulation 38(15) which incorporates the latest Basel III framework as

Mlk Letter From Birmingham Jail
In MLK s letter to the eight clergymen from Alabama, he focus on addressing the fact that the
clergyman believe his present activities are unwise and untimely . MLK begin the letter by stating all
his credentials which show that he is educated enough in the matter to further along the cause of
ending the the segregation. His purpose while not evident in the first paragraph of his letter is seen
later on when he states I am in Birmingham because injustice is here ( Do I have to cite the letter) and
then again when he says injustice anywhere is a threat to injustice everywhere (CITE). His purpose in
the letter is to rebut not only the eight clergymen, but also white men as a whole. While his letter does
not urge the clergyman to pick a side with or againsts the civil right activist but more like he explains
the need for direct action which you can see when he says the purpose of our direct action program is
to create a situation so crisis packed that it will inevitably open the door to negotiation . When MLK
was in solitude he wrote this letter on scraps of paper that were smuggled to him suggest that he feels
very strongly about the topic of the letter. In one instance MLK states as in so many past experiences,
our hopes had been blasted, and the shadow of deep disappointment settled upon us. With the usage of
the words our and us you ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As a reader this becomes evident when MLK is speaking about an instance when hate filled policemen
curse, kick and even kill your black brothers and sister ( CITE) . Again when he speaks about how
black people of the time lived a degenerating sense of nobodiness ( CITE), it is felt through his words
that MLK is trying to connect to the reader by using his own personal experiences of the hatred that he
has encountered through his

Sports Injuries
Sports Injuries In the U.S there are thirty million or more children/teens that participate in sports. Out
of the 30 million children/teens that participate in sports, 3.5 million of those children/teens get
injured each year.
What Is A Sports Injury?
A sports injury can be described as just an injury you get while playing sports. A sports injury could be
just a sprained ankle, hamstring pull, shin splints, acl tear and a groin pull. Of course there are a lot
more types of sports injuries that can be specified but those are just some of the more common
injuries, the most common injuries that occur in sports would be strains and sprains (Hoffman, 2005).
Who Gets Sports Injuries? Anyone can get an injury in general, but if you participate in sports, every
day that you play or practice your sport or sports you have that chance of getting a sports injury.
What are the different types of sports injuries and how do they occur? There are twenty three different
sports injuries. the first one on the list would be an achilles tendon injury. The achilles is the biggest
tendon in your body, it is very common for this tendon to get injured. The tendon gets injured in the

Best Buy Co. Inc
Best Buy Co, Inc.
December 2, 2011
McCombs School of Business
The University of Texas at Austin
Overview
Best Buy operates as one of the largest electronic consumer outlets in the United States. While Best
Buy is internationally known for selling a large variety of electronics, it also sells home office
products, appliances, and entertainment products. Best Buy chains are located predominantly in the
United States, Canada, Europe, and China. Since Best Buy s success is strongly dependable on the
consumer, its main goal is to do whatever it can, within reason, in order to make its customers fully
satisfied.
Its vision is centered around the People, technology, and the pursuit of happiness. As a corporation, its
four main ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
With a market capitalization of over $10 billion, Best Buy is the dominant player in this industry.
Competition in this industry is high primarily because there is little to no switching costs if a buyer
chooses to shop somewhere else. Likewise, products are not set apart: buyers can get comparable
products at almost all of the different electronic stores. As a result, companies like Best Buy have to
compete on prices and non tangibles, such as customer service and friendliness.
The threat of potential new entrants into the consumer electronics retail industry is relatively low. Best
Buy has forged a reputation for selling mid to high end product and excellent customer service. It
would be difficult for an entrant to challenge the company. Furthermore, it would be difficult to
undercut incumbent firms who have already established relationships with suppliers to purchase
merchandize at the lowest prices.
The substitute products, that may take a portion of the market share away from the consumer
electronics retail industry, do not create a huge or direct hazard. Today s society and culture place a
big emphasis on technology and it is highly reliant on electronics. The bargaining power of buyers for
electronic products is extremely low because the buyers primarily consist of a weak and divided group
of individuals, and technology has became a vital need for most people.
The suppliers for companies in the market have

The Election Process Of The Electoral College
In November, many Americans will trek to their designated polling place to cast their vote for the next
President of the United States. The U.S. government loves to preach that every vote matters, and that
citizens should not take that responsibility lightly. During the presidential election cycle, states hold an
open election in which all eligible citizens can participate. Citizens have the ability to vote for a
distinct ticket , which consists of candidates for Vice President and President. Most Americans are
relatively aware of this step in the voting process. What happens after this stage, though, is not as well
tacit. It is at this point in the election process that the Electoral College begins to take effect. The
Electoral College is used in the same manner for 48 states; with the exception of Maine and Nebraska.
After each of the votes in these 48 states are tallied and counted, the major political party with a
candidate who won the majority vote in any of those states is sanctioned to choose a panel of
individuals who will cast the state s real vote for President. The Electoral College comprises of these
538 electors. The number of electoral votes for a state is not solely based on population, they are
allocated based on their representation in Congress. This means each state is given a minimum of 3
electoral votes (at least 1 representative and 2 senators) regardless of the population size in the state.
American citizens cast their vote for President in November,

Who Is Roland Barthes Opium Fragrance
A 1992 commercial for Yves Saint Laurent s Opium fragrance, directed by David Lynch, takes the
pleasurable sensual experience of perfume to faraway places via mythologized drug analogy and
orientalist fantasy. The commercial follows a female model s ritualistic use of Opium perfume. She
walks upstairs in an elegant modern home, passes a grand piano, sits on a divan, and undoes the top of
a bottle of Opium. Her eyes close, her deep breaths rise over the soundtrack, and it is clear that the
fragrance has intoxicated her as if it were literally the substance of its namesake. By the logic of
Roland Barthes semiotic theories and his book Mythologies, this perfume ad s signifiers of drug use
and the East create an environment of sensual exoticism that glazes over the more complex realities of
such signified ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This commercial relies on a strategy of myth making that Barthes calls exoticism, in which the
established order constructs the other as an object or spectacle (Barthes 266). The mythology of
Orientalism, an exoticism with a specific East Asian focus, reduces Chinese history and culture into
aesthetic qualities that can be used to incite feelings of exotic escape in Western consumers. Barthes
theories of mythology are explained through semiotics, which understands signifiers as images that
stand in for other concepts, and the signified as what is replaced by signifier images. The myths
created out of relationships between signifier may seem so natural and depoliticized to their readers
that they go unnoticed. A number of signifiers in the commercial stand in for a general signified
essence of the East . At the beginning and end of the commercial, a folding fan rolls across the screen.
At the end, white orchids float into the left half of the image, as Opium s red and gold bottle dissolves
into the right. The fan, the white orchids, and the design of the Opium bottle are all signifiers of warm,
sensual, feminine qualities with a specific Eastern bent. At

to be more proficient. This internship gave me an opportunity to develop professional skills. When I m

  • 2. Us Vs Japan Chapter Four Case 2 US vs. Japan, research 4 20 As an international student I am lucky enough to be able to provide a unique outsider s perspective on some of the cultural difference and similarities between Japan and U.S.A. I try to do this by using my own customs and traditions as a tool to compare that of the two countries. I use religion, political stance, formality, collectivist vs individualistic ways of thinking and traditions that they share as a rubric to measure the similarities and differences between the two. As an international student I also have the unique opportunity to get insight from my personal friend from Japan, Kazuki Sona. Religion As an Ethiopian I have had the opportunity to see the effects of religion first hand. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In the case study it mentions that more is expected from the employees of Nomura compared to the more casual and lenient employees of Lehman. Employees of Nomura have to look and act a certain way (some of which, in my opinion does not fully reflect the Japanese culture). The women were separated from the men in training, which would obviously raise a red flag had it been employees of Lehman. For two companies of such severe differences and little commonalities to get along, it requires great patience, and an even greater deal of tolerance. In the last paragraph of the case study it talks about the last minute efforts that Nomura did, before the Ex executive of Lehman left. We also get a sense of unpreparedness from both companies; that, one did not do homework on the needs and wants of the other. Had they have been more flexible of their cultural beliefs, and worked harder at diversifying their workgroup from the gecko, the outcome might have been different. And both companies would not have had to work so hard to understand the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Different from profit oriented corporations, Watson University, as a nonprofit organization, is financed mainly based on the basis of need. Tracking the contributions made to the organization and how they are spent are more important than to purse a profit margin. According to the financial report of Watson University from 1975 to 1984, Watson University successfully identified its financial problems in debt structure, sources of funds and uses of funds. For example, Watson curtailed its borrowing by completing the dormitory building program and soliciting government grants for new construction projects to reduce the debt amount. On the ... As a private university, enrollment trend is the key to improve the financial statements of Watson University since Watson was very tuition dependent. However, increasing enrollment trend needs various supports such as academic reputation, financial aid, physical and social environment, career preparation and etc. (2) Moreover, the total and constructions of expenditures is another factor should be considered in the financial statements. According to the analysis reported, the total educational expenditures of Watson University increased by 113 percent included instructional expenditures had increased 95 percent during this period. • 4. Comparison Of Porphyrias Lover And The Flea Porphyrias Lover, My Last Duchess and The Flea all have the theme of love in them Porphyrias Lover, My Last Duchess and The Flea all have the theme of love in them. But they are not all the same theme of love for example Porphyrias Lover is obsessive and seductive love whereas; The Flea is more like sexual love. Robert Browning writes both Porphyrias Lover and My Last Duchess and John Donne writes The Flea. I think Porphyrias Lover and My Last Duchess are alike as Robert Browning uses similar themes of love in them e.g. Obsessive and Possessive. The Flea is a completely different poem altogether. It is more of a sexual poem rather than obsessive but it could be argued that it is obsessive as well because the male is obsessed ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Flea is quite alike Porphyrias Lover. The type of love that is used in The Flea is sexual love. In The Flea the poet attempts to seduce his mistress by overcoming her coyness through argument. The poem although sexual is also religious aswel, And sacrilege, three sins in killing three. This quote shows a religious side to the poem because she is being unreligious and she is making three sins as she is killing three people The Flea, herself and the poet, the poet makes the Flea represent himself and his mistress and says, Three lives in one flea spare. This poem ends with the mistress squashing the Flea and therefore killing their love. I think that this poem could be related to Porphyrias Lover a little bit because the poet is very keen and obsessed with getting his mistress into bed but unlike Porphyrias Lover it is the male trying to seduce and bed his mistress not the other way around. My Last Duchess is more like Porphyrias Lover than The Flea because in this poem by Robert Browning he does not seduce his mistress instead he kills her. The type of love that is shown in this poem is possessive. This Poem is about a Duke and his Mistress, in the poem the duke gets jealous and possessive over his Duchess She thanked men good! But thanked somehow I know not how as if she ranked my gift of a nine hundred years old name with anybody s gift. This quote not only shows how possessive the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Essay on The Concept of Moral Panics The Concept of Moral Panics A moral panic is said to occur when the media mobilises public opinion around the condemnation of deviance ( Media coverage of deviance: moral panics , lecture handout, 07 10 02). Deviance, in this context, refers to the violation of social norms and values, and the subsequent disruption of social order. This essay will begin with a clarification of the terms moral panic and deviance and outline how the two concepts are related. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Leslie Wilkins in her extract titled Information and the definition of deviance (Cohen and Young, 1974, p.36) supports this relativist view and uses culture to illustrate how deviance is subjective. She explains how many cultures prior to Western contact held definitions of normality which were out of accord with existing Western values. However, once the cultures made contact, the Western interlopers would redefine the indigenous cultures perceptions of normality and deviance. Thus, distinct value systems do exist, but the more powerful groups in a society routinely impose their own values on others. The mass media is a crucial influence on the public perception of deviance. When it focuses on deviance, it shapes opinions on what constitutes deviant behaviour and provides a symbolic cement for a consensus of values ( Media coverage of deviance: moral panics , lecture handout, 07 10 02). And as previously stated, when the media s focus on such deviance instigates a vehement public denunciation of the associated problem , it is said to be encouraging moral panic. In his study Folk Devils and Moral Panics , Stanley Cohen suggests that a moral panic often occurs when a condition, episode, person or group of persons emerges to become defined as a threat to societal values and interests ... Washington and Colorado are the two recent states that have legalized the use of marijuana for recreational uses. Marijuana is classified as a Schedule 1 drug believed to be dangerous and highly addictive, also thought to be a gateway drug leading to a dark path of drug abuse. In fact many historians to this day debate over the question of whether or not the plantations even made any profit over their period of existence. More and more pirates emerged as the demand for sugar continued to increase, and therefore more and more slaves were also needed. After these pirates attacked slave ships en route to the Caribbean, they would take the slaves and trade them in the Caribbean for sugar, molasses, and rum and make their way back to Europe top begin the process all over again. Because these pirates did not differentiate between the countries ships that they attacked (excluding their own), they began some of the first mixing of slaves and cultures into one group. Often times they would take the non black deckhands of the attacked ship and either make them slaves as well, or assign them to deck duty upon their own ship. This general small scale mixing was the beginning to what was to ensue on a much larger scale in the very near future. Another area that began to increase the tendency for cultural and social mixing was the fact that as more and more pirates sailed the sea, counties began to send less and less of their commissioned trade ships. During the early 1960 s, Elijah Muhammad became known as the Honorable Elijah Muhammad and was well on the way to establishing governmental order for black people. He always showed tremendous love for the black community. IN 1974, The Honorable Elijah Muhammad completed a 40 year period (1934 1974). The year 1934 , represents the time in which he was left on his own by Master Fard Muhammad. The completion of this period climaxed a historic Saviors Day address, when he spoke on The Black God. 2 MINISTER LOUIS FARRAKHAN As a boy, his mother would give him the CRISIS MAGAZINE (an NAACP publication) to read as well as the black newspapers that were available. His mother, being a very dark and beautiful woman, wanted him to have a healthy respect and love for black people. Many times as a young child he would cry himself to sleep after hearing his mother and her friends talk about the plight of black people. He remembers how he would lay on the floor, looking up at the blue sky, asking God, why he would send help to other people and not to the black people in America? One day when Minister Farrakhan was eleven years old, he visited his uncle in New York City and he saw a picture of a black man on the wall of his uncle s apartment, which was something very strange in the forties. He asked ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

MLK begin the letter by stating all his credentials which show that he is educated enough in the matter to further along the cause of ending the the segregation. His purpose while not evident in the first paragraph of his letter is seen later on when he states I am in Birmingham because injustice is here ( Do I have to cite the letter) and then again when he says injustice anywhere is a threat to injustice everywhere (CITE). His purpose in the letter is to rebut not only the eight clergymen, but also white men as a whole. While his letter does not urge the clergyman to pick a side with or againsts the civil right activist but more like he explains the need for direct action which you can see when he says the purpose of our direct action program is to create a situation so crisis packed that it will inevitably open the door to negotiation . When MLK was in solitude he wrote this letter on scraps of paper that were smuggled to him suggest that he feels very strongly about the topic of the letter. In one instance MLK states as in so many past experiences, our hopes had been blasted, and the shadow of deep disappointment settled upon us. With the usage of the words our and us you ... With a market capitalization of over $10 billion, Best Buy is the dominant player in this industry. Competition in this industry is high primarily because there is little to no switching costs if a buyer chooses to shop somewhere else. Likewise, products are not set apart: buyers can get comparable products at almost all of the different electronic stores. As a result, companies like Best Buy have to compete on prices and non tangibles, such as customer service and friendliness. The threat of potential new entrants into the consumer electronics retail industry is relatively low. Best Buy has forged a reputation for selling mid to high end product and excellent customer service. It would be difficult for an entrant to challenge the company. Furthermore, it would be difficult to undercut incumbent firms who have already established relationships with suppliers to purchase merchandize at the lowest prices. The substitute products, that may take a portion of the market share away from the consumer electronics retail industry, do not create a huge or direct hazard. Today s society and culture place a big emphasis on technology and it is highly reliant on electronics. The bargaining power of buyers for electronic products is extremely low because the buyers primarily consist of a weak and divided group of individuals, and technology has became a vital need for most people. The suppliers for companies in the market have

The U.S. government loves to preach that every vote matters, and that citizens should not take that responsibility lightly. During the presidential election cycle, states hold an open election in which all eligible citizens can participate. Citizens have the ability to vote for a distinct ticket , which consists of candidates for Vice President and President. Most Americans are relatively aware of this step in the voting process. What happens after this stage, though, is not as well tacit. It is at this point in the election process that the Electoral College begins to take effect. The Electoral College is used in the same manner for 48 states; with the exception of Maine and Nebraska. After each of the votes in these 48 states are tallied and counted, the major political party with a candidate who won the majority vote in any of those states is sanctioned to choose a panel of individuals who will cast the state s real vote for President. The Electoral College comprises of these 538 electors. The number of electoral votes for a state is not solely based on population, they are allocated based on their representation in Congress. This means each state is given a minimum of 3 electoral votes (at least 1 representative and 2 senators) regardless of the population size in the state. The commercial follows a female model s ritualistic use of Opium perfume. She walks upstairs in an elegant modern home, passes a grand piano, sits on a divan, and undoes the top of a bottle of Opium. Her eyes close, her deep breaths rise over the soundtrack, and it is clear that the fragrance has intoxicated her as if it were literally the substance of its namesake. By the logic of Roland Barthes semiotic theories and his book Mythologies, this perfume ad s signifiers of drug use and the East create an environment of sensual exoticism that glazes over the more complex realities of such signified ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This commercial relies on a strategy of myth making that Barthes calls exoticism, in which the established order constructs the other as an object or spectacle (Barthes 266). The mythology of Orientalism, an exoticism with a specific East Asian focus, reduces Chinese history and culture into aesthetic qualities that can be used to incite feelings of exotic escape in Western consumers. Barthes theories of mythology are explained through semiotics, which understands signifiers as images that stand in for other concepts, and the signified as what is replaced by signifier images. The myths created out of relationships between signifier may seem so natural and depoliticized to their readers that they go unnoticed. A number of signifiers in the commercial stand in for a general signified essence of the East . At the beginning and end of the commercial, a folding fan rolls across the screen. At the end, white orchids float into the left half of the image, as Opium s red and gold bottle dissolves into the right. The fan, the white orchids, and the design of the Opium bottle are all signifiers of warm, sensual, feminine qualities with a specific Eastern bent. At ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
