Vancouver Island Community Analysis
Earlier this week, I published a Guest Post from Anabel Marsh on Hidden Histories. Her
thoughtful, provocative post led to much reflection, including Who does your town/city honour?
It s a great question. Vancouver Island, where I currently live, is home to influential and well
known actors, artists, athletes, journalists, musicians, philanthropists, politicians, scientists,
Nobel Laureates, writers and more. Many are honoured on our island in a variety of ways. One
small section of this island is home to a local hero who does not neatly fit into one category. Phil
St. Luke (aka Flying Phil ) may not be well known outside of his surrounding area...but within his
community he is much loved and celebrated. Phil is frequently featured in local news stories, has
a Facebook Fan Club and YouTube video. He leads his town s annual Canada Day Parade, and his
birthday, March 7, is known to... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He had planned this return visit so that his young son could also meet this community hero. What
s so unique about Phil? A former Special Olympian originally from Vancouver, Phil has lived in
the Oceanside area since the 1970 s. Unquestionably he has become the community s unofficial
ambassador. He is well known by generations of Oceanside residents for his daily rounds through
the town s streets, coffee shops and businesses where he warmly greets everyone whom he meets.
His big smile, his exuberance, his desire to do good and his volunteer work with multiple
community programs has been an inspiration to many. Phil s relentlessly optimistic outlook is
contagious. Common quotes about Phil include He brings sunshine wherever he goes, His presence
fills every room he enters and Phil is somebody who touches everybody. Gordon Johns, Courtenay
Alberni Member of Parliament) recently posted this about Phil, He brightens our days and enriches

Christian Values In Seamus Heaney s Translation Of Beowulf
Beowulf
Although a story with a seemingly unknown origin, Seamus Heaney s translation of Beowulf shows
the culture that birthed the tale as well as their values. It showcases Pagan values, due to influences
of where the story first developed and shows where their hero Beowulf emerged from. It also
presents Christian values, which were ingrained into the story after Christian monks of British
origin first transcribed the Norse tale. The audience in which the story was written to, in the present
day, has not particularly shown these Christian values which Beowulf encases; young male readers
tend to think of Beowulf as the hero, when in fact the Christians wanted to show that Wiglaf was.
Because of the popularity and likeability of Pagan values in the story by young males, the ones
who were supposed to read the tale, the Christian monks failed in their mission of trying to show
that a good hero is a Christian one.
In Beowulf s fight with Grendel, he is displayed with apposition, putting the idea of him being the
hero who saves the kingdom by slaying monsters. Doing this, an audience wouldn t seem to care
as much about his flaws pride, blind following, being immoral but rather focuses on his actions.
When Grendel first tries to attack Beowulf the alert hero s comeback and armlock forestalled him
utterly, allowing him to win the fight and defend Heorot successfully (747 48). By using an
appositive to refer to Beowulf as the hero during the battle, the story already

Inmate Attitudes Towards Mental Health
The article I chose for a research study that examined attitudes that inmates have toward mental
health treatment. The study consisted of the utilization of mental health, and the effectiveness and
maximum effectiveness of the treatment. The Kansas Department of corrections used 278
volunteers who were incarcerated adult male offenders. The inmate attitudes towards treatment
were having an effect on the number of treatment sessions and the dosage that the inmate received
which was indicated by the multiple linear regression. An inmate who indicated positive attitudes
seeking help were associated with institutional behavior which was the hierarchical linear
regression analysis. The behavior decreased and also the disciplinary infraction declined

Analysis Of Antigone By Sophocles
The name of the play I am summarizing is called Antigone by Sophocles, the genre of this play is
Greek tragic, it comes after two other plays where as in the first one Oedipus was supposed to end
up being the king so he killed his father and wanted marry the mother. Where as in the second one
its just stories of his kids and their meetings with Theseus, the King of Athens. Antigonemain
properties of a Greek tragedy play would have to be the characters and the plot. Antigone ends up
sacrificing herself just to fulfill what was wanted of her. Antigone proclaims I shall be a criminal
but a religious one. The time in which I must please those that are dead is longer than I must
please those of this world (lines 85 89). Antigone was... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Ismene (also daughter of Oedipus) is the good girl out of everyone in the family. She bows to
Kreon and she attempts to help Antigone and join her in the sacrifice in which Antigone does
not allow her to do. Kreon is Antigone s uncle, before he gave up everything to the throne he
used to have himself connected with art patronage. Haimon which is Kreon son and Antigone s
fiancГ©, he s not in the play much because Antigone used to reject him but he soon begs Kreon
for her. Now for who I think the protagonist of the play is I would say Antigone, one main
reasoning being that is she sacrifices her life in order to fulfill her obligation. Yes, a lot of
people thought it would ve been Kreon because he got a lot more stage time than Antigone did
but she is the one who has the action moving in the play since the very start. Antigone is talking
to her sister Ismene about her plan ISMENE But can you do it? I say that you cannot.
ANTIGONE Very well: when my strength gives out, I shall do no more. ISMENE Impossible
things should not be tried at all. ANTIGONE Go away, Ismene: I shall be hating you soon, and
the dead will too, for your words are hateful. Leave me my foolish plan: I am not afraid of the
danger; if it means death, it will not be the worst of deaths death without honor. (lines 74 82) So

Gender Stereotypes
The assumption that girls wear pink and boys wear blue has been constructed over many
centuries, from the pink and blue design scheme of children s nursery s, to the on going
recognition as feminie and masculine markers, to the current universal use of pink as a sign of a
female and blue a sign of male(Paoletti, 2012). In todays society pink and blue are used to
categorise an individuals genderand as a sign of recognition as masculine and feminine. The
prevalence of the assumption that girls wear pink and boys wear blue was not until the mid 20th
Century in the Western world.

Mapping And Its Impact On The Contemporary Art
Maps are helpful in providing a symbolic representation of the different characteristics of a
specific region or area. Mapping is meant to inform and guide us in our pursuit of knowledge as
it helps to connect us visually to any location, from across the globe, to our own backyards.
Historically mapping has been used in many different ways, for example they can help to
develop battle plans and devise strategies for winning wars, as well as to help with making
boundaries to promote peace. When we can visually see where we are, in comparison to others,
it helps to give us a new perspective into the political, geographical and social similarities and
differences we may share with other people. Mapping can provide us with valuable insight into
the way other people live, think and behave. Mapping has become an important aspect in the
contemporary art world as the availability to view and share artwork with others around the
world has been made more readily available. Contemporary art as viewed through the notion that
geography can lead to artists engaging with the earth s surface in a way that can be observed
through artistic experimentation. Many different mediums can be used by the artists in order for
them to express what they are trying to communicate as it relates to where they are in to world.
Three different approaches to geography that can be used by contemporary artists include using the
body as a map, political geographies, and trash geographies. Using the body as a

The Industrial Revolution During The 19th Century Essay
The Industrial Revolution occurred in Britain from 1760 to 1840. During this time many people
moved from farming areas to the city for work. Britain had three different classes, upper, middle
and working/lower. These three classes had different living and working conditions. The lower
class had the harshest conditions and punishments out of the three, they worked 12 hours a day and
then went home to a crowded diseased ridden house late a night. The middle classactually benefitted
from the revolution, going from working in factories to owning them. And the upper classhad the
easiest life out of the three, not having to work and living in beautiful mansions.
Working/lower class working conditions.
Before the industrial revolution the poor working class people had jobs in agriculture and then
when the revolution came, they had to find jobs in factories. Because working in factories was
easier than in the fields, large amounts of women and children began working. During the
industrial revolution, some of the working class benefitted from it by getting better jobs and/or
becoming business owners. But the ones that were unskilled and uneducated were stuck in the
lower class. There jobs offered poor pay which often resulted in a miserable, dreary and simple
life. The working conditions were fifthly, dangerous and extreme. Most children who worked all
day every day didn t go to school which meant they could receive an education. Without an
education, the poor couldn t get

5_Skeletal System Organs (1,100 Words). The Framework Of
5_Skeletal System Organs (1,100 words)
The framework of the human body is the skeletal system. Skeletal system organs include the
bones, joints, cartilages, ligaments, tendons and teeth. Bones offer support for the muscles,
protect our vital organs, and allow us to eat food. Our joints allow our body to move, twist and
bend. Cartilage, like our ears and nose, offer soft structures that are more malleable than bones.
Two separate bones are connected by ligaments, and bones and muscles are connected by tendons.
Our teeth allow us to bite and chew our food. Skeletal structure is similar among all people around
the world, with the greatest diversity occurring between the sexes. We will explore each system in

3. Joints
Joints appear throughout our body. Our ability to move turn our head is because of our spine s
ability to twist and turn. Our shoulders and hips allow our arms to move in circles. Our elbows
and knees are hinge joints, which allow us to extend or retract our hands and feet. Our wrists and
ankles give is the ability to move them in circles. Our fingers and toes are hinge joints as well.
Every place in your body that moves, like your jaw, does so because of joints.
4. Ligaments
Ligaments are made of fibrous collagen tissue. The purpose of the ligaments are to connect two
bones to each other. These connects are located at joints, which control and enhance our
movements. Our hips, shoulders, elbows and knees are connected by ligaments. People who are
double jointed have ligaments that allow them to move their joints further than people who are not
double jointed.
5. Tendons
Tendons, like ligaments, are also made of fibrous collagen tissue. Tendons connect muscles to
bones, which allow the movements of our muscles to cause our bones to move. When a muscle
contracts, it pulls the tendon which causes the bone in the arm to contract. When we walk, lift items,
talk or make dinner, we are moving our tendons.
6. Teeth
Our teeth allow us to bite and chew our food. Our teeth are connected to our jaw and are incredibly
durable. Teeth are one of the most important indicators of our health. Baby teeth are temporary teeth

The Court of India, while administering environmental justice, has evolved certain principles and
doctrines within and at times outside the framework of the existing environmental law.
Environmental principles, such as polluter pays principle, precautionary principle and public trust
doctrine have been adopted by the Court in its concern to protect the environment from further
degradation and improve the same. It is important to note that these principles have been developed
in various international agreements and conferences to control and prevent further environmental
degradation. Drawing inference from international environmental principles, the Court of India
has applied various principles to resolve domestic environmental problems. For example, the
Polluter Pays Principle was invoked by the Court of India in the Indian Council for Enviro Legal
Action v. Union of India. Giving the judgment, the Judges held that we are of the opinion that any
principle evolved in this behalf should be simple, practical and suited to the conditions obtaining in
this country. Once the activity carried on is hazardous or inherently dangerous, the polluter
carrying on such activity is liable to make good the loss caused to any other affected party by
polluter s activity irrespective of the fact whether the polluter took reasonable care while carrying
on his activity . In this case, the Court has stated that the Polluter Pays Principle means that the

After lengthy conversation, I found that my initially interpretation of this piece was closer than
I thought. To start off, Horn confirmed that this piece is considered a painting, even though it
does utilize certain sculptural elements. Her main inspiration for this piece was stained glass
windows seen in large cathedrals, which is where she drew her color scheme. Until I Am
Whole, deals specifically with spirituality being a layered experience; to represent this idea,
Savannah painted layers on top of each other. The bottom most layer consists of a floral motif,
which is where the red and yellow tones originate. Horn then over painted the floral pattern with
many thin lines of darker blue to create the feeling of light emanating from within. The build up
of paint forces viewers to reach through the layers in order to see the light. Savannah Horn wanted
to force the viewers to reach through the layers just as one is forced to sift through knowledge and
practice in order to glimpse at the truth of God. When I initially viewed this painting that was my
first reaction! I saw light beaming through the window, signifying the search and hope for God or
the truth. At this point, my interpretation of Until I Am Whole is comparable with the artist s

Education is an incredibly important resource to help create a new generation of empowered and
informed individuals, which can lead to improvements in overcoming inequality or poverty.
Without receiving education, children are being excluded from opportunities to better their future
and current situation, which is especially critical for impoverished families or marginalized groups.
However, the current education system throughout most of the continent seems to exclude the
people who need it the most. While many countries claim free primary education, 44% families still
have some form of payments to schools, with an average fee of $4.16 per year per child. This is

Kenya in particular faces difficulty in getting universal primary and secondary education. Youth
unemployment is around 20% for people age 15 16 in Kenya, and in 2009 of the people working,
84% had informal jobs, making them vulnerable workers. These issues can be prevented for the
future by making sure that all children have access to strong educational foundation through
primary and secondary schools to then go on to tertiary and university to reinvest into their
communities. Strides have been made such as making enrollment free, which led to many new
students, but one million children are still out of school in Kenya. While this policy has made
some accomplishment, children in less developed areas such as slums or informal settlements,
do not have an equal access to public free schooling and instead go to private schools with low
fees. This has led to an increase in the privatizing of education in Kenya. Over 60% of Nairobi s
children attend these private schools, which can put extreme strain on a low income family. The
public schools themselves have questionable quality, with the government no longer receiving
tuition money to invest in the schools and relying on taxes. There is a lack of teachers, and due to
lack of funds in 2015 many Kenyan teachers went on strike for not getting paid. Also there is
concern over the quality, as public primary education 45% of students qualified

North American Colonization Research Paper
The discovery of North America sparked a new era of exploration, expansion, and colonization.
Many European countries took the opportunity to develop a new territory where they could prosper
financially and benefit their home country as much as possible. The trip overseas was strenuous, as
was maintaining positive relationships with Native Americans and running a successful colony.
Although all European countries who showed interest in establishing territories in the Americashad
their own reasons for doing so, some countries did a better job executing their colonizing than
others. Britain, France, and Spainwere the three most successful countries in terms of colonizing a
new land for their country.

People emigrated in hopes of gaining land, improving their social statuses and wealth, and to
convert the Natives to Christianity. Many poor beggars sought new work as indentured
servants, and obtaining land of their own after serving 4 7 years. This was a chance for them to
regain their social status, an opportunity that would not be available back home. It was also a
gamble, since life expectancy was very low for servants due to being overworked, as well as
susceptible to diseases. To many, however, the risk was worth it. In England, there were massive
amounts of unemployed workers. Poverty and crime increased dramatically, but by moving to the
new colonies the poor received more of a fresh start. In Virginia, the colonists profited from
harvesting tobacco, but they were overridden by diseases and did not have a healthy lifestyle. In
New England, there was far less death by diseases and had more middle class residents than the
poor servants down South. With Puritan leadership, the colonists had a better worth ethic and
kinder values than those in Virginia. Though they fought many bloody wars with the Natives, they
were also able to convert many of them. The English were able to obtain even more territory, such

Energy Positioning Factors For Wireless Sensor Network
A Wireless Sensor Network can be composed of large number of tiny of sensor nodes spread in a
wide area and communicating with each other either directly or through routing mechanisms to the
other nodes. One or more of the nodes are the base station with uninterrupted battery source than
the other nodes. Since the devices in WSN are often tiny devices with small form factor the
computational power of these devices is usually small because there will not support large amount
of hardware. Furthermore as the devices are wireless they need to obtain their energy from an
inbuilt battery which in the end needs to be recharged or replaced. If the battery of a device is
depleted it needs an immediate substitution to function further . Since... Show more content on

8.Collision and retransmission [36][37]
There is a number of power reduction practices must be used both in the design of the circuits
and in the design of network protocols approaches . The major step towards reduced power
consumption is a sound electronic design [32],[34] selecting the efficient circuits and applying
suitable design procedure to each case. Sometimes the most important causes of energy depletion
in the WSN node is the idle mode consumption, when the node is not initiate any communication
but listening and waiting for information from other nodes. Energy loss due to packet collision is
also a major issue, causes all data packets involved in the transmission are discarded and must be
retransmitted . Another cause of energy loss is the wrong routing leads to the reception of packets
to non addressed node. Next major source of energy loss is the transmission and possible
retransmission of control packets, as these can be seen as protocol overhead[26]

even harder for Starbucks to establish a strong and positive image in the long term. Furthermore,
their target customers and therewith their probable locations are limited to the major cities and the
coastal urban areas. But within these areas, Starbucks has a good potential, since a growing
number of young, trendy people are willing to spend more money on luxury goods, as the
Starbucks products are in China. In this context, tourists also capture an increasingly important
position, since they are more and more traveling to China and hence are possible Starbucks clients
as well. Additionally, the middle class starts to earn more money and thus also represents a potential
future consumer. As a result of the growing amount of prospective customers and so copycats, it
could be a challenge for the global company that the market suddenly is oversaturated, since coffee
still remains anything but the Chinese favorite beverage.

Native American Beliefs
The Native American tribe known as Blackfoot, is not really talked about. It was never really a
big tribe that made a large name for itself. The Blackfoot Indians have the same government as
most tribes, and it has an interesting social organization. The Blackfoots also have some special
customs and traditions, along with their art and literature. The Native American government can be
a little complicated, but once it s explained it becomes clearer. The Native American government
is a monarchy, though it was not always that way. Before the Europeans invaded, they had their
own form of government. When the Europeans invaded they decided that each Native American
tribe needed a chief to rule and look over the people. The United States rejected having a
monarchy for its government, but thought that it would be acceptable to the Native Americans
(Ojbiwa). The Blackfoot had an economy based on buffalo hunting, therefore their government
was one based around buffalo hunting and movements. The title of chief, usually men, is not
hereditary, the chief has to show good leadership qualities. The chief does not tell the people what
to do, but tries to persuade them to do what he is thinking. The chief s job was to keep peace in
the group, be generous, be able to persuade his/her people. During the summer the band s, different
groups in the tribe, would gather together and the most influential band chief would be deemed as
head of the entire tribe (Ojbiwa). The government ties

While these regulations were eventually lessened by the following Prime Minister, the events led to
an increase in French nationalism among the natives and new assimilation policies. In 2003, the
French government made an attempt to integrate the immigrants by requiring them to sign a
contract when entering the country. By signing the contract, immigrants agree to undergo language
training and instruction on the values of French society, (Zappi). If they passed, they received a ten
year permit, but if they failed then they only got a one year permit. Essentially, the French were
trying to protect their home culture by forcing the immigrants to let go of their native cultures and
become more French. When immigrating to a new country, there are many stages of acculturation
that a person must go through. At first everything is wonderful and amazing, but soon,
homesickness and longing for the home culture sets in. The attitudes and mindsets of the host
culture can play a huge role in whether person acculturates successfully or slips into culture shock.
If you are able to make friends in your host culture who can help you assimilate, then you are more
likely to be happy in your new home. However, in France, many people are unfriendly to foreigners
and very unwilling to help them. For Americans, when going into a French restaurant, even though

the body. The composition of collagen is manifested in various parts of the body like bone, skin,
cartilage and blood vessel. Collagenfibre is the main structure in extracellular matrix contributing
great assistance in maintaining the integrity of cells and tissues structures. The major functions of
collagen include the provision of strength and elasticity, along with maintaining rigidity. Till date,
28 types of collagen have been identified and they are classified into few sub group. A number of
factors distinguish a collagen from another such as morphological characteristics, molecular
compositions, distributions, and functions. Of all types of collagen, type I collagen is the most
abundant form and is responsible for substituting 90% of the body s collagen. In view of the

How Did Gilgamesh Search For Eternal Life
The Epic of Gilgamesh
Rafael Soto
HIST 1111 World History 1
Question 1
The Epic of Gilgamesh is represented as a two thirds god and one third human. A king that went
through a lot of changes in his life, from Love, friendship, death and search for eternal life. As we
can see at the beginning Gilgamesh is a powerful king with no compassion for others, and after the
death of his best friend Enkidu he realizes that death is unavoidable. Gilgamesh start his journey in
the search for eternal immortality; but during his journey and the struggles that he endures he gains
the capacity and the compassion for others.
We can see his compassion when he retrieves the plant that grows under the water and lose it to a
snake.
Compassion:
By its virtue a man may win back all his former strength. I will take it to Uruk of the strong walls;
there I will give it to the old men to eat. Its name shall be The Old Men Are Young Again ; and at
last I shall eat it my self and have back my lost youth. (N.K. Sanders, Chap. 6, p22) ... Show more

Then Gilgamesh sat down and wept, the tears ran down his face, and took the hand of Urshanabi;
O Urshanabi, was it for this that I toiled with my hands, is it for this I have wrung out my heart s
blood? For myself I have gained nothing; not I, but the beast of the earth has joy now. (N.K.
Sanders, Chap. 6, p22)
Gilgamesh quest for immortality and failures to pass all the tasks show us that death is inevitable,
but what is important is the life that we leave behind, the deed that we have done in it and the
impact that we have make in others. At the end Gilgamesh gain his immortality not in flesh, but

Satire In Andrew Levy s The Adventures Of Huckleberry Finn
The Adventure Of Huckleberry Finn, a book recognized to be one of the most remarkable pieces
of literature in American History, has been highly accused of being offensive among some critics.
Andrew Levy, for example, stated that this book portrays profound satire and racism in
standardized education. He believed that because of these issues, Huckleberry Finn is not an
appropriate book for children. However, I believe, that neither the use of satirenor the racist
comments has any negative influence on children, and that The Adventure of Huckleberry Finn is
an ideal novel for use in the classroom. To begin with, the book is not all racist and it is not
harmful for primary education. Like Andrew Levy, for Twain s critics, the novel is ridiculously
written for children on the face of it, and for the most obvious reason: many characters use the
word niggerthroughout. But since the action of the book takes place in... Show more content on

The reason Twain uses satire in The Adventure of Huckleberry Finn, is to create casual dialogue
ironically. Rather than emphasizing how people see white privilege at the time, Twain uses it as
a way to underscore the terrific truth about the South: it was a place where slaveholders did not
consider the death of a black person worth their notice, and where a nigger was not a human
being. For example, in chapter fourteen, Huck exemplified Well, if ever I struck anything like it, I
m a nigger. It was enough to make a body ashamed of a human race. (Twain, 123) By using satire,
the author was intended to prove that black people should have the equivalent right as the superior
white people. And there should be no discrimination, no misunderstanding and no racism. These
undertones were hidden in between words in a setting of an adventure story. By choosing to write
in such a form, Twain noticed that it would be less literate for children to confirm the underline

Indian Boy Love Song Analysis
The poems New Orleans by Joy Harjo and Indian Boy Love Song (#2) by Sherman Alexie have
two very similar themes. Themes are underlying message, or main ideas, basically the theme is
the lesson you learned after you read a story, or in this instance a poem. The theme in New
Orleans is that you should put forth the effort to find out about your culture s history. While the
theme of Indian Boy Love Song(#2) is that you should, try your hardest to become close to your
elders, don t be distant. While both themes are focused on their culture, New Orleans is actually
looking for information on her Creek culture, but Indian Boy Love Song (#2) is apologizing
about how he s distant from his culture. In the poem New Orleans the theme is that to learn more
about your culture, you should put forth the effort. To get this message Harjo used compare and
contrasting. For example They caught him in blue rock, said don t talk. I know it wasn t just a
horse that went crazy. This is showing development because it s showing how her people got
caught, and they attacked any and everything. Another way the author shows this is by saying I
have a memory. It swims deep in blood, a delta in the skin. This shows that her heritage runs deep
through her. In addition to these two quotes, another quote that shows relation toward this
development is Nearby is a shop with ivory and knives. There are red rocks. The man behind the

`` Sex Without Love `` By Tina Turner
Not to my surprise, the Iconic singer Tina Turner s 1984, number one hit song, What s Love got
to do with it, became her signature song most recognized among her fans. Questioning a
relationship s worth and meaning is an endless universal topic with many diverse opinions and
beliefs of what s morally right or wrong. Similarly, Sharon Olds 1985 poem Sex without Love
reflects a speaker s disapproval and disappointment articulated with an ironic tone. At first
glance, the speaker seems to be baffled on how an action can occur without the presence of the
other, but as one reads on its obvious the irony is evident. The use of metaphors climaxes the
beauty of Sex that includes love while associating the loveless sex with harsh realism
magnitudes. The setting of the poem coincides timelessly in any era due to its direct point of
related interest and act of nature. Sharon Olds poem Sex without Love, delivery of imagery and
tone heightens the speakers overall positive and negative outlook on the correlation of sex and
love. The relationship of Sex and Love is inspired and build upon a person s belief, and opinions
of what s morally right or wrong which in turn determine their projection. In Sharon Olds poem
Sex without Love the poem starts out ironically with a question referencing a highly questionable
association of Sex and Love, How do they do it, the ones who make love without love? (Olds).

Censorship Filters The Media Within The World
Does censorship filter the media within the world? Censorship has followed the free expressions of
men and women like a shadow throughout history. Censorship is a way to filter the media in the
world by suppressing unacceptable viewings or hearings by not showing, bleeping out, and
covering the distasteful parts. In ancient societies, China for example, censorshipwas considered a
logical tool for regulating the political and moral life of the population. The term censor can be
traced to the office of censor established in Rome i 443 BC. In Rome, in the ancient Greek
communities, the thought of good governance included shaping the character of the people,
although, censorship was regarded as a righteous task. In China, the first censorship law was
introduced in 300 AD. Censorship is a healthy way of teaching the world, helps control the influx of
information and ideas in society and compresses the violence within the world.
Though freedom of speech is legal within the United States of America, all things said, shown, or
expressed are not always appropriate. In most cases, inappropriate speech and/or acts lead to
illegal acts or urge others to. For example, if someone witnesses a scene, is a part of a scene or
hears about it, most will want to converse about it or take part in it creating chaotic controversy.
However, more severe forms have led to people or groups such as the Ku Klux Klan being denied
certain marching permits or the Westboro Baptist Church being sued,

What Is The Assassination Of Gandhi Unjust
Mohandas Gandhi was an influential leader for India s independence, whose acts to gain Indian
rights, led to him getting assassinated by Hindus that were against his ideas and motives. As
Gandhi moved to South Africa to study law, he experienced racism and South African laws that
restricted the rights of Indian laborers. He was removed from a first class railway compartment
and thrown off of a train. This was the moment of truth that made Gandhi decide to defend his
rights as an Indian man and fight injustice. Gandhi formed the Natal Indian Congress (NIC), which
drew attention world wide to the struggle Indians were facing in India. That was just the first of
many steps Gandhi took in his fight to gain Indian rights and independence from Great Britain.
Although thousands of people supported Gandhi s ideas and actions, certain groups of Hindus and
Muslims felt differently about the whole matter. They wanted to kill Gandhi for what he was doing;
and on January 30th, 1948, Mohandas Gandhi was assassinated by a Hindu fanatic named
Nathuram Godse. The assassination of Mohandas Gandhi was unjust, because he was a political
and spiritual leader of the Indian independence movement, who acted to gain independence from
Britain; however, others disagreed with his actions to gain... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Romeo And Juliet Tragic Tragedy
To believe in love, to be ready to give up anything for it, to be willing to risk your life for it, is
the ultimate tragedy (DiCaprio). In both of these stories there is the similarity of young love
ending in tragedy. Both sets of lovers feel defined by nothing but their weaknesses. Romeo feels
like he can never be enough for Juliet because he is just a Montague. Being a Montague is what
he lets define him. Hazel feels as if she can never be known as anything besides a cancer patient.
She lets this define her. Romeo and Juliet could never be together because of their families, and
Hazel and Augustus could never be together because of their diseases. In both cases fate was not
on their side. Romeo is cursed by his last name as Augustus is cursed by his cancer. Romeos last
name Montague is his cancer. In the stories Romeo and Juliet and The fault in our Stars the
author reveals that going through tragedy is worth it for love. Romeo and Juliet were cursed by
their families names. They knew in their hearts that because of this affliction that their love was
doomed from the beginning. But they also new that it was going to be worth it in the end to
them. Come, gentle night, come, loving, black brow d night, Give me my Romeo; and, when he
shall die, Take him and cut him out in little stars, And he will make the face of heaven so fine
That all the world will be in love with night And pay no worship to the garish sun. (Shakespeare

The Defamation Of Women In The Medieval Era
Defamation of women during the medieval period stemmed from Christian ideology that claimed
women were mentally weaker and therefore more susceptible to temptations of the flesh. This
assumption often resulted in women being portrayed as overly sexual beings that aggressively
sought to physically soil a man s goodness. As painted in BibliothГЁque De L Arsenal, the womanis
shown as a contentious predator that clings to the man s clothes urging him to sleep with her. It can
be noted that he is half dressed, quite clearly uncomfortable and attempting to make an escape
while she, fully naked, tugs at the bottom of his shirt to come towards the bed. In the piece she is
aggressive in her lust, painting her as inherently sinful.
Yet another common theme that characterized femaleintegrity can be found in the penis trees drawn
throughout the era. In Massa Marittima s Mural, the implication that women harvested penises and
were more interested in the physical aspects of a man rather than the Christian influenced concepts
of celibacy and purity were openly accepted. Pictures like these were not created by women or
based on any concrete experience, instead they repeatedly drew inspiration from perpetuated
stereotypes that further discredited the morality of women.
These stereotypes were not only found in paintings but in literature as well. In Jean de Meun s
popular tale, Romance of the Rose, an older woman speaks on her advice for younger women. In
this advice, we can see the

Spiral of Silence Theory
Spiral of Silence Theory Elizabeth Noelle Neumann s spiral of silence is a theory that was
developed in 1974 and as the founder and the director of the Public Opinion Research Center in
Allensbach in Germany; she has found evidence of how the spread of public opinion is formed.
The term spiral of silence refers to the increasing pressure people feel to conceal their views they
think they are the minority. People will be unwilling to publicly express their opinion if they are
in the minority and they will also be more vocal if they believe they are a part of the majority.
Thus, the more marginalized you become, the less you speak and so you spiral into a fully
marginalized position. Neumann s claim are based on previous collaborative... Show more content

It is used to reveal a series of factors that measures the likelihood that people will voice their
opinions. There are six factors and the first one is the most important: 1. Those who favor the
majority position are willing to express their voice more comfortably. Feeling in harmony with
the spirit of the age loosens the tongue. [Griffin, Em. Spiral of Silence. A First Look at
Communciation Theory. 7th ed. N.p.: McGraw Hill, n.d. N. pag. Print. 2. If perception of the
present opinon does not match the climate of the conversation, the willingness to speak will
depend on how well the conversation continues on. 3. People are more willing to speak if their
views match their counterparts than to those who disagree. 4. Low self esteem will cause a
person to mute their opinion more often than others. 5. Males, young adults, and people of the
middle and upper classes tend to speak out more easily. 6. Existing law encourages people to
express their opinion when they feel outnumbered. The Supreme Court s Roe v Wade is a good
example. Now that we know the building blocks of the spiral of silence, we can get to root of
Noelle Neumann s model of her theory leading to her main point and the last factor, fear of
isolation. The fear of isolation is the centrifugal force that accelerates the spiral of silence.
Essentially, people fear becoming social isolates and thus take measures to avoid such a
consequence. Her assumption is drawn

The 4th of July vs. Justice Taney in Dred Scott Ruling
In the years leading to the U.S. Civil War, the controversy over slavery became
not only a social issue, but also a political and legal one as well. Opponents and
proponents of slavery each looked to the American constitution, as well as the prevailing
culture of the time, for direction in dealing with this matter. Two such people who based
their landmark works on this were Justine Taney of the U.S. Supreme Court, and
Frederick Douglas, an emancipated slave, who fought tirelessly for the abolishment of
slavery.

nations. Even though a river can not be turned aside, it may dry up . If a nation dries

Douglas also pointed out that the Declaration of Independence was one of the
most valuable factors in the Nation s destiny. The principles written in the Declaration of
Independence should be kept and adhered to. Be true to to them on all occasions , wrote
Douglas. He believed that most documents that were written after the Declaration of

In stark contrast to this, Justice Taney, who wrote the majority opinion of the

Douglas. In his opinion, Justice Taney uses the same reference points as Frederick

Should Animal Testing Be Used Only For Medical Research
Should animal testing be used only for medical purposes in New Zealand?
By Jihad Mohd Erfino
Introduction:
Animal testing is one of the most controversial scientific issues debated around the world. It
questions the right of wild animals to be used in commercial, cosmetics and even for medical
research purposes. Although it happens in most of the world (including New Zealand) today, many
question whether it should go on. Animal testing is generally the use of animals for different
purposes in lab conditions.
Brief history of animal testing and achievements: Animal testing has existed since the 2nd
century BCE through the work of Greek scientist Aristotle (Animal testing Wikipedia). He was
the first one to have made experiments on live animals. The first animal testing experiments was
to find out how our bodies work. For example, the discovery of blood circulation in mammals
was discovered in the 12th century by Arabic scientist Ibn Al Nafis and this was refined later in
the 17th century by William Harvey. Animal testing has also played a vital role in human medical
advances. It has helped developed vaccines to cure diseases such as polio which has almost been
eradicated. It has also have helped humans to have a better understanding of our bodily
mechanisms, function and several diseases. Some diseases that cannot be cured yet can be treated
better due to animal testing discoveries.

rescue children from Hitler s regime. Winton had no experience in this type of work because,
previously back in the UK, he was a stockbroker. Within a short period of time, he had over 100
children ready to be departed, but the British government would not take him seriously. So, he stole
some documents from an established rescue organization, typed in a section for his rescue and
placed himself as chairmen of that branch. Through that little forgery, he was able to get the British
government to slowly issue travel documents to the children.... Show more content on

All he needed was families to take the children. In a 60 Minutes interview, Winton explained he sent
a letter to the president of the United States, asking to look for families in America to take children
and have ads in American newspapers for the children. Sadly, the letter never made to Roosevelt, in

Upwind Discretization Model Essay
The second order upwind discretization model was used in this problem. The truncated error due
to selected terms in the Taylor series expansion is reduced and a more accurate solution is
implied. Fewer grid points are necessary to give the same level of accuracy.
∂u/∂x+u=0,г
Ђ–(du/dx)гЂ—_i + ui =0 u_(i 1)=u_i ∆x(du/dx)_i+(∆x^2)/2 ((d^2 u)/(dx^2
))_i (∆x^3)/6 ((d^3 u)/(dx^3 ))_i+0(∆x^4) u_(i 1)=u_i+∆x(du/dx)_i+(∆x^2)/2 ((d^2 u)
/(dx^2 ))_i (∆x^3)/6 ((d^3 u)/(dx^3 ))_i+0(∆x^4)
The central differencing method is used to find an expression for d2u/dx2 in the form ui 1 +ui+1
u_(i 1)+u_(i+1)=〖2u〗_i+∆x^2 ((d^2 u)/(dx^2 ))_i+O(∆x^4) ((d^2 u)/(dx^2 ))_i=((u_(i
1) )+(u_(i 1) ) (2u_i))/(∆x^2 )
This is the discretised expression for d2u/dx2 and the truncation error is above O(∆x^2)
Q6a. You were instructed to use an inviscid flow model. Justify the use of that model for this
calculation. (2 marks)
Assuming no viscous forces present an inviscid model has been used for the calculations. Also from
the equation of the Reynolds number Re=ПЃvl/Ој due to Re being really big rearranging and
assuming v and l to be constant the viscous force Ој =ПЃvl/Re becomes negligible.
Q6b. Write down the simplified Cartesian Navier Stokes momentum equations that you think are
the closest representation to the equations you actually solved in Fluent. State why these aren t
actually the equations you solved. (10 marks)

Many have started to start rapping in order to succeed all those things. Teens today think that having
wealth as to having nice things think that is what only matters. Teens become very materialistic.
According to a CSUN student in california, says, Today, the idea of materialism in Hip Hop music
and music videos is more than ever present. Current Hip Hop artist, often have lucrative lifestyles
(with fancy cars, money everywhere, and gold chains, for example) going on in their song themes
that is meant to reflect their success in the music industry. Children and teens from all ages see
and hear this with awe and imitation in mind, which usually leads them to confuse reality with
fantasies (CSUN 2015). Being to materialistic can be disappointing for teens when they see it is
hard to have those things if you are not an artist. Teens are not happy with what they have and lose

  • 2. Vancouver Island Community Analysis Earlier this week, I published a Guest Post from Anabel Marsh on Hidden Histories. Her thoughtful, provocative post led to much reflection, including Who does your town/city honour? It s a great question. Vancouver Island, where I currently live, is home to influential and well known actors, artists, athletes, journalists, musicians, philanthropists, politicians, scientists, Nobel Laureates, writers and more. Many are honoured on our island in a variety of ways. One small section of this island is home to a local hero who does not neatly fit into one category. Phil St. Luke (aka Flying Phil ) may not be well known outside of his surrounding area...but within his community he is much loved and celebrated. Phil is frequently featured in local news stories, has a Facebook Fan Club and YouTube video. He leads his town s annual Canada Day Parade, and his birthday, March 7, is known to... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He had planned this return visit so that his young son could also meet this community hero. What s so unique about Phil? A former Special Olympian originally from Vancouver, Phil has lived in the Oceanside area since the 1970 s. Unquestionably he has become the community s unofficial ambassador. He is well known by generations of Oceanside residents for his daily rounds through the town s streets, coffee shops and businesses where he warmly greets everyone whom he meets. His big smile, his exuberance, his desire to do good and his volunteer work with multiple community programs has been an inspiration to many. Phil s relentlessly optimistic outlook is contagious. Common quotes about Phil include He brings sunshine wherever he goes, His presence fills every room he enters and Phil is somebody who touches everybody. • 3. Christian Values In Seamus Heaney s Translation Of Beowulf Beowulf Although a story with a seemingly unknown origin, Seamus Heaney s translation of Beowulf shows the culture that birthed the tale as well as their values. It showcases Pagan values, due to influences of where the story first developed and shows where their hero Beowulf emerged from. It also presents Christian values, which were ingrained into the story after Christian monks of British origin first transcribed the Norse tale. The audience in which the story was written to, in the present day, has not particularly shown these Christian values which Beowulf encases; young male readers tend to think of Beowulf as the hero, when in fact the Christians wanted to show that Wiglaf was. Because of the popularity and likeability of Pagan values in the story by young males, the ones who were supposed to read the tale, the Christian monks failed in their mission of trying to show that a good hero is a Christian one. In Beowulf s fight with Grendel, he is displayed with apposition, putting the idea of him being the hero who saves the kingdom by slaying monsters. Doing this, an audience wouldn t seem to care as much about his flaws pride, blind following, being immoral but rather focuses on his actions. When Grendel first tries to attack Beowulf the alert hero s comeback and armlock forestalled him utterly, allowing him to win the fight and defend Heorot successfully (747 48). By using an appositive to refer to Beowulf as the hero during the battle, the story already ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The inmate attitudes towards treatment were having an effect on the number of treatment sessions and the dosage that the inmate received which was indicated by the multiple linear regression. • 7. Mapping And Its Impact On The Contemporary Art Maps are helpful in providing a symbolic representation of the different characteristics of a specific region or area. Mapping is meant to inform and guide us in our pursuit of knowledge as it helps to connect us visually to any location, from across the globe, to our own backyards. Historically mapping has been used in many different ways, for example they can help to develop battle plans and devise strategies for winning wars, as well as to help with making boundaries to promote peace. When we can visually see where we are, in comparison to others, it helps to give us a new perspective into the political, geographical and social similarities and differences we may share with other people. Mapping can provide us with valuable insight into the way other people live, think and behave. Mapping has become an important aspect in the contemporary art world as the availability to view and share artwork with others around the world has been made more readily available. • 8. The Industrial Revolution During The 19th Century Essay The Industrial Revolution occurred in Britain from 1760 to 1840. During this time many people moved from farming areas to the city for work. Britain had three different classes, upper, middle and working/lower. These three classes had different living and working conditions. The lower class had the harshest conditions and punishments out of the three, they worked 12 hours a day and then went home to a crowded diseased ridden house late a night. The middle classactually benefitted from the revolution, going from working in factories to owning them. And the upper classhad the easiest life out of the three, not having to work and living in beautiful mansions. Working/lower class working conditions. Before the industrial revolution the poor working class people had jobs in agriculture and then when the revolution came, they had to find jobs in factories. Because working in factories was easier than in the fields, large amounts of women and children began working. During the industrial revolution, some of the working class benefitted from it by getting better jobs and/or becoming business owners. But the ones that were unskilled and uneducated were stuck in the lower class. There jobs offered poor pay which often resulted in a miserable, dreary and simple life. After lengthy conversation, I found that my initially interpretation of this piece was closer than I thought. To start off, Horn confirmed that this piece is considered a painting, even though it does utilize certain sculptural elements. Her main inspiration for this piece was stained glass windows seen in large cathedrals, which is where she drew her color scheme. Until I Am Whole, deals specifically with spirituality being a layered experience; to represent this idea, Savannah painted layers on top of each other. The bottom most layer consists of a floral motif, which is where the red and yellow tones originate. Horn then over painted the floral pattern with many thin lines of darker blue to create the feeling of light emanating from within. The build up of paint forces viewers to reach through the layers in order to see the light. Youth unemployment is around 20% for people age 15 16 in Kenya, and in 2009 of the people working, 84% had informal jobs, making them vulnerable workers. These issues can be prevented for the future by making sure that all children have access to strong educational foundation through primary and secondary schools to then go on to tertiary and university to reinvest into their communities. Strides have been made such as making enrollment free, which led to many new students, but one million children are still out of school in Kenya. While this policy has made some accomplishment, children in less developed areas such as slums or informal settlements, do not have an equal access to public free schooling and instead go to private schools with low fees. This has led to an increase in the privatizing of education in Kenya. Over 60% of Nairobi s children attend these private schools, which can put extreme strain on a low income family. The public schools themselves have questionable quality, with the government no longer receiving tuition money to invest in the schools and relying on taxes. • 26. Indian Boy Love Song Analysis The poems New Orleans by Joy Harjo and Indian Boy Love Song (#2) by Sherman Alexie have two very similar themes. Themes are underlying message, or main ideas, basically the theme is the lesson you learned after you read a story, or in this instance a poem. The theme in New Orleans is that you should put forth the effort to find out about your culture s history. While the theme of Indian Boy Love Song(#2) is that you should, try your hardest to become close to your elders, don t be distant. While both themes are focused on their culture, New Orleans is actually looking for information on her Creek culture, but Indian Boy Love Song (#2) is apologizing about how he s distant from his culture. In the poem New Orleans the theme is that to learn more about your culture, you should put forth the effort. To get this message Harjo used compare and contrasting. For example They caught him in blue rock, said don t talk. I know it wasn t just a horse that went crazy. This is showing development because it s showing how her people got caught, and they attacked any and everything. Another way the author shows this is by saying I have a memory. Questioning a relationship s worth and meaning is an endless universal topic with many diverse opinions and beliefs of what s morally right or wrong. Similarly, Sharon Olds 1985 poem Sex without Love reflects a speaker s disapproval and disappointment articulated with an ironic tone. At first glance, the speaker seems to be baffled on how an action can occur without the presence of the other, but as one reads on its obvious the irony is evident. The use of metaphors climaxes the beauty of Sex that includes love while associating the loveless sex with harsh realism magnitudes. The setting of the poem coincides timelessly in any era due to its direct point of related interest and act of nature. Sharon Olds poem Sex without Love, delivery of imagery and tone heightens the speakers overall positive and negative outlook on the correlation of sex and love. The relationship of Sex and Love is inspired and build upon a person s belief, and opinions of what s morally right or wrong which in turn determine their projection. In Sharon Olds poem Sex without Love the poem starts out ironically with a question referencing a highly questionable association of Sex and Love, How do they do it, the ones who make love without love? • 28. Censorship Filters The Media Within The World Does censorship filter the media within the world? Censorship has followed the free expressions of men and women like a shadow throughout history. Censorship is a way to filter the media in the world by suppressing unacceptable viewings or hearings by not showing, bleeping out, and covering the distasteful parts. In ancient societies, China for example, censorshipwas considered a logical tool for regulating the political and moral life of the population. The term censor can be traced to the office of censor established in Rome i 443 BC. In Rome, in the ancient Greek communities, the thought of good governance included shaping the character of the people, although, censorship was regarded as a righteous task. In China, the first censorship law was introduced in 300 AD. Censorship is a healthy way of teaching the world, helps control the influx of information and ideas in society and compresses the violence within the world. Though freedom of speech is legal within the United States of America, all things said, shown, or expressed are not always appropriate. In most cases, inappropriate speech and/or acts lead to illegal acts or urge others to. For example, if someone witnesses a scene, is a part of a scene or hears about it, most will want to converse about it or take part in it creating chaotic controversy. However, more severe forms have led to people or groups such as the Ku Klux Klan being denied certain marching permits or the Westboro Baptist Church being sued, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 29. What Is The Assassination Of Gandhi Unjust Mohandas Gandhi was an influential leader for India s independence, whose acts to gain Indian rights, led to him getting assassinated by Hindus that were against his ideas and motives. As Gandhi moved to South Africa to study law, he experienced racism and South African laws that restricted the rights of Indian laborers. He was removed from a first class railway compartment and thrown off of a train. This was the moment of truth that made Gandhi decide to defend his rights as an Indian man and fight injustice. Gandhi formed the Natal Indian Congress (NIC), which drew attention world wide to the struggle Indians were facing in India. That was just the first of many steps Gandhi took in his fight to gain Indian rights and independence from Great Britain. Although thousands of people supported Gandhi s ideas and actions, certain groups of Hindus and Muslims felt differently about the whole matter. They wanted to kill Gandhi for what he was doing; and on January 30th, 1948, Mohandas Gandhi was assassinated by a Hindu fanatic named Nathuram Godse. Romeo feels like he can never be enough for Juliet because he is just a Montague. Being a Montague is what he lets define him. Hazel feels as if she can never be known as anything besides a cancer patient. She lets this define her. Romeo and Juliet could never be together because of their families, and Hazel and Augustus could never be together because of their diseases. In both cases fate was not on their side. The Defamation Of Women In The Medieval Era Defamation of women during the medieval period stemmed from Christian ideology that claimed women were mentally weaker and therefore more susceptible to temptations of the flesh. This assumption often resulted in women being portrayed as overly sexual beings that aggressively sought to physically soil a man s goodness. As painted in BibliothГЁque De L Arsenal, the womanis shown as a contentious predator that clings to the man s clothes urging him to sleep with her. It can be noted that he is half dressed, quite clearly uncomfortable and attempting to make an escape while she, fully naked, tugs at the bottom of his shirt to come towards the bed. In the piece she is aggressive in her lust, painting her as inherently sinful. Yet another common theme that characterized femaleintegrity can be found in the penis trees drawn throughout the era. In Massa Marittima s Mural, the implication that women harvested penises and were more interested in the physical aspects of a man rather than the Christian influenced concepts of celibacy and purity were openly accepted. Pictures like these were not created by women or based on any concrete experience, instead they repeatedly drew inspiration from perpetuated stereotypes that further discredited the morality of women. These stereotypes were not only found in paintings but in literature as well. In Jean de Meun s popular tale, Romance of the Rose, an older woman speaks on her advice for younger women. Spiral of Silence Theory Spiral of Silence Theory Elizabeth Noelle Neumann s spiral of silence is a theory that was developed in 1974 and as the founder and the director of the Public Opinion Research Center in Allensbach in Germany; she has found evidence of how the spread of public opinion is formed. The term spiral of silence refers to the increasing pressure people feel to conceal their views they think they are the minority. People will be unwilling to publicly express their opinion if they are in the minority and they will also be more vocal if they believe they are a part of the majority. Thus, the more marginalized you become, the less you speak and so you spiral into a fully marginalized position. Neumann s claim are based on previous collaborative... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It is used to reveal a series of factors that measures the likelihood that people will voice their opinions. There are six factors and the first one is the most important: 1. Those who favor the majority position are willing to express their voice more comfortably. Feeling in harmony with the spirit of the age loosens the tongue. [Griffin, Em. Spiral of Silence. A First Look at Communciation Theory. 7th ed. N.p.: McGraw Hill, n.d. N. pag. Print. 2. If perception of the present opinon does not match the climate of the conversation, the willingness to speak will depend on how well the conversation continues on. 3. People are more willing to speak if their views match their counterparts than to those who disagree. 4. Low self esteem will cause a person to mute their opinion more often than others. 5. Males, young adults, and people of the middle and upper classes tend to speak out more easily. 6. Existing law encourages people to express their opinion when they feel outnumbered. The Supreme Court s Roe v Wade is a good example. Now that we know the building blocks of the spiral of silence, we can get to root of Noelle Neumann s model of her theory leading to her main point and the last factor, fear of isolation. The fear of isolation is the centrifugal force that accelerates the spiral of silence. Essentially, people fear becoming social isolates and thus take measures to avoid such a consequence.
