Discussion Essays
Crafting an essay on the subject of "Discussion Essays" can be both challenging and
intellectually rewarding. The difficulty lies in navigating the nuanced landscape of presenting
balanced arguments, analyzing various perspectives, and forming a cohesive narrative that
engages the reader. Discussion essays demand a deep understanding of the topic, critical
thinking skills, and the ability to communicate complex ideas effectively.
To begin, one must delve into extensive research to gather relevant information and diverse
viewpoints. This process involves sifting through various sources, deciphering academic articles,
and staying updated with current debates on the subject. It requires time, patience, and a
discerning eye to filter through the plethora of information available and identify credible
sources.
Structuring the essay poses another hurdle. A well-crafted discussion essay requires a clear
introduction, a body that presents arguments logically, and a conclusion that ties everything
together. Striking the right balance between presenting opposing views and asserting one's stance
without appearing biased demands finesse. Each paragraph should flow seamlessly into the next,
building a coherent and persuasive argument.
Moreover, crafting a compelling thesis statement is essential. This statement should encapsulate
the main idea of the essay, providing a roadmap for the reader. Ensuring that the thesis aligns
with the arguments presented and is defensible adds an additional layer of complexity.
Furthermore, the language used in a discussion essay must be precise and articulate. Clarity is
paramount, and juggling complex ideas while maintaining readability can be a delicate task.
Striking the right tone is also crucial – maintaining objectivity while injecting a personal
voice to keep the reader engaged is a constant balancing act.
In conclusion, writing a discussion essay requires a multifaceted approach that encompasses
research, critical thinking, effective communication, and structural finesse. It is a challenging yet
intellectually stimulating endeavor that hones one's analytical and writing skills. With dedication
and perseverance, however, the writer can navigate these challenges and produce a thought-
provoking piece.

A Note On Phonemic Awareness
Phonemic awareness is the knowledge that words are made up of phonemes, the
smallest units of sound in a word. Phonemic awareness also involves being able to
manipulate sounds by blending them, taking them apart, and changing them. For
example, the word bat, is made up of three phonemes. The first is /b/, the second is
/a/, and the third is /t/. Putting all of these graphemes together makes the word bat. If
I were to change the /b/ to a /r/, the word would change to an entirely different animal
(Cunningham Allington, 2007). DIBELS First Sound Fluency: DIBELS First Sound
Fluency measures how well students can say the initial sounds in words. To start, the
assessor will model the first word in man. Listen, the first sound in man is /m/. What
is the first sound in man? If the student is right, they move onto the initial sound in
sun. When students can correctly identify that sun, begins with /s/, students move on
to the actual assessment. The examiner verbally presents ~30 stimulus words. When
students correctly identify the initial sound, in isolation, students are given two
points. If they blend sounds, they earn one. If they say the incorrect sounds, they
receive zero ( DIBELS FSF, n.d.). Pals K has multiple means of assessment for
phonemic awareness. 1.Rhyme awareness: requires students to identify rhyming
words. 2.Beginning sound awareness: similar to DIBELS FSF, students are asked to
identify the initial sounds in various words. PALS K aids in

Margaret Thatcher’s Achievements as Prime Minister

Margaret Thatcher s achievements as Prime Minister in the years 1979 1990 were
limited. Assess the validity of the statement. Margaret Thatcher s political career has
been one of the most remarkable of modern times she served as British Prime
Minister for more than eleven years (1979 90), a record unmatched in the twentieth
century. During her term of office she reshaped almost every aspect of British
politics, reviving the economy, reforming outdated institutions, and reinvigorating the
nation s foreign policy. She challenged and did much to overturn the psychology of
decline, which had become rooted in Britain since the Second World War, pursuing
national recovery with striking energy and determination. In the process, Margaret...

Her economic policies were another success for Thatcher s regime. Thatcher s
policies were monumental changes for Britain. Privatisation and deregulation were
famous changes implemented by Thatcher. The policy of Privatisation has been
called a crucial ingredient of Thatcherism . After the 1983 election the sale of state
utilities accelerated; more than ВЈ29 billion was raised from the sale of nationalised
industries, and another ВЈ18 billion from the sale of council houses. The process of
privatisation, especially the preparation of nationalised industries for privatisation,
was associated with marked improvements in performance, particularly in terms of
labour productivity. Some of the privatised industries including gas, water, and
electricity, were natural monopolies for which privatisation involved little increase
in competition. The privatisation allowed people to become more involved in the
buying of shares in companies. Although this did not work as well as Thatcher
would have hoped as many of the richer part of society bought as many shares at
they could. Many people denounced this policy as an Elitist policy. The privatisation
of public companies was combined with financial deregulation in an attempt to
encourage economic growth. Geoffrey Howe Thatcher s Chancellor of the
Battle Of Gettysburg Analysis
Multiple factors were vital in determining the outcome of the Battle of Gettysburg in
which the Confederate States of America suffered a defeat of numerous casualties.
The lack of communication among the officers of the army may be attributed to the
defeat as due to the confusion and insufficient information allowed for the Union

Ibuefi Ezeudu Research Paper
Ogbuefi Ezeudu otherwise known as the oldest man in the village has died and his
death is announced to the villages by using a musical instrument. Okonkwo feels
many emotions because the last time he was visited by Ezeudu it was to warn him

Paradox Of Nudity On Television
Examining the Paradox of Nudity in American Broadcast Television
Introduction
In contemporary culture, television has become ubiquitous. These machines are
everywhere, from our homes to stores and even classrooms. While all of us may not
be television junkies, many of us do occasionally watch a show here and there. The
issue of what can be shown on broadcast television has been at the center of
conversation for years, especially the issue of airing nudity on television. Ask anyone
who watched Superbowl XXXVIII in 2004 what the final score was and they may not
remember, but they will definitely remember what happened during the halftime
show, when Janet Jackson s breast was exposed to the entire American audience due
to a wardrobe malfunction. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For instance, in the 1950 s there were complaints of starlets plunging necklines that
prompted broadcast television networks to create their own indecency rules
(Triplett, pg. 230). Fast forward to today s era of television and there is the overall
performance of the Superbowl halftime show, where there Jackson s outfit reveals
cleavage and there tends to be no controversy over her plunging neckline. So while
moral values may have declined in America, going to the extreme, such as airing a
bare breast, is still too much for some Americans to withstand. According to
information found by Triplett, more than 530,000 complaints were made to the FCC
after the Superbowl incident (n.p.). From that, plunging necklines have now become
acceptable, but revealing a bare breast still causes great controversy, even when it
was just an accident. The sexuality that arises from the event is what is fueling the
debate over nudity in television, which leads in to my next point that the general
American society perceives nudity as
Juvenile Delinquency
Juvenile delinquency is the habitual committing of criminal acts or offenses by a
young person, especially one below the age at which ordinary criminal prosecution
is possible. Up until recently juvenile delinquency only accounted for males.
However, girls are now the fastest growing segment of the juvenile justice system,
even though the rates of juvenile offending are declining. Due to the increase of
the female juvenile population, some female juveniles are being held in adult
prisons. Because the rates of female offending has been on the rise, there has been
an increase in the likelihood that a teen would be arrested while she is pregnant.
There are approximately 24,000 pregnant teens arrested a year, which is 670 on a
given day. The chances of a girl being arrested while she is pregnant is somewhat
high due to the fact that about 85% of girls that are detained are sexually active
and fewer than 50% of them use some form of protection. Because the amount of
female juveniles being detained are increasing and the juvenile justice system was
geared more towards the male population, there are several resources that are
lacking especially for pregnant teens and teen mothers. In the novel Inside This
Place, Not of It by Ayelet Waldman and Robin Levi, the narrative on Olivia
Hamilton, though she may not be a teen, provides a great example of the lack of
services available to pregnant inmates and mothers. Olivia Hamilton was arrested for
embezzling money to pay her bills. At

A simple intranet consists of an internal email system and perhaps a message board
service. More sophisticated intranets include Web sites and databases containing
company news, forms, and personnel information. Besides email and groupware
applications, an intranet generally incorporates internal Web sites, documents, and or
databases. The business value of intranet solutions is generally accepted in larger
corporations, but their worth has proven very difficult to quantify in terms of time
saved or return on investment.
An extranet is a computer network that allows controlled access from the outside
for specific business or educational purposes. Typically a company extranet is used
for people to connect to the company to conduct any number of tasks behind a
password protected area. A common application of an extranet is a partner area
where partners and resellers can download sales resources such as graphics and
content to aid in the sales process. Sometimes referred to as a portal, an extranet can
also be used to service clients who need support for products and services purchased
from the organization. An enterprise level extranet application can be built upon most
technology available today, including dot net, asp, php, html, and other systems.
Extranets are extensions to, or segments of, private intranet networks that have been
built in many corporations for information sharing and ecommerce. Most extranets

Syrian Kurds And The Civil War
In the midst of the chaos of the on going Syrian civil war, the nation of Syrian Kurds
has slowly coalesced and formed its own self proclaimed sovereign country, complete
with its own constitution and form of government. Though still in its early days, it
has already collaborated with international powers to fight off terrorist groups, and
remained a strong hold in the region of northern Syria. This conflict will continue to
evolve and have major implications for the future of Syrian Kurds, and other groups
in the region with regard to questions of resource control and Kurdish sovereignty.

Therefore, this will be an area of further conflict due to the resources this region
holds. When the fighting in Syria subsides, the Kurds in this region stand to lose
their self proclaimed autonomy due to outside influence and interest in these scarce
resources. This paper examines the challenges Rojava will face in the coming years,
and the possible necessary steps needed for the Kurds to claim stability in a region
surrounded by opposition.
This paper asks: how has elite manipulation for political, economic, and territorial
gains produced unfavorable circumstances for the Syrian Kurdish population? And
how will this factor into Kurdish claim of sovereignty in Rojava, given the region is
rich with scarce natural resources? Therefore, the main point this paper will argue is
that elite manipulation aided in creating the Kurdish ethnic conflict within Syria in
the decades leading up to the Syrian civil war, along with how this elite manipulation
holds the potential to cause further problems for Kurds when it comes to the issue of
autonomy and self governance in the region they have claimed as their own. In other
words, the Kurdish ethnic conflict within Syria will create further problems for the
notions of proclaimed Kurdish
A Comparison of Three Advertisements Essay
A Comparison of Three Advertisements The word Media is a term for information
or messages conveyed by diferent channels (means) to an audience. Examples of
media types are music, news, radio etc. A symbol is a picture of something eg: a
cross. A denotation is what you actuallly see. A connotation however is the hidden
meaning or sub text of a symbol. The anchor ties the picture down, comfirms the
message or adds to the idea of something. A stereotype suggests a typical image of
people that the audience recognises. Soft focus might imply romance, olden days and
femininity. I will be analysing three adverts.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

The second jeep advert also has an area which is in focus and a area which is
blurred. This time the background is blurred and the car is in focus. The jeep is
head on to the camera and this suggests power, strenght and confidence. The jeep
looks like it is going fast through the water because of the water splashing
everywhere and the detailed droplets in the air.
Adverts lay things out well. They use specail techniques to catch our eye and to make
us read the adverts. On the first advert they use the effect of 3 new cars on a white

the car. That is the bottom 40%. The are parked, facing the camera head on. This

these cars are at the bottom of the page. There is a flag pole which shows authority,
importance, tradition etc. On the car there are five spoked alloy s which suggest

Seeing Humanity in Sea Creatures in The Old Man and the
Sea
In the book, the Old Man and the Sea by Ernest Hemingway, the Old man describes
many sea animals that reveal how Hemingway views on humankind values and
morality. The Old man saw different aspects of humanity n every sea creature. Three
sea creatures that Ernest Hemingway described were the jellyfish, sea turtle, and the
mako shark. The jellyfish is like a disguised beauty, a sea turtle is very stron, and the
mako shark is like a thief.
The Old man describes the jellyfish by saying that they were beautiful, but if stung
by the jellyfish, it hurts like a whiplash. The Old man also says, The iridescent
bubbles were beautiful. But they were the falsest thing in the sea... The Old man said
that jellyfish are like people who have a beautiful ... Show more content on

But the Old man thought, I have such a heart too and my feet and hands are like
theirs. The Old man felt sorry for the turtles because people didn t respect these
friendly animals. People would cut them up and eat them. He felt attached to these
creatures because he believed that he had a strong heart, feet, and hands like the
magnificent turtles. He describes how he ate turtle eggs to give himself strength. By
showing the scene in which the turtle ate the jellyfish, Hemingway was trying to how
the turtle was like him and the jellyfish was like the marlin being attacked. That
shows the animal and human way of survival are the same. Hemingway described the
turtles as sea creatures with great values, unusual, but still very friendly.
Finally, The old man also saw a Mako shark during his journey which was the first
shark he encountered after catching the giant Marlin. When the Old man saw him
coming, he knew that this was a shark that had no fear at all and would do exactly
what he wished. The shark comes with celerity to eat the dead marlin, but ends up
being killed by the Old Man. The shark is the only sea creature the old man knows
that is not apprehensive. The shark does anything he wants without looking at the
consequences even if it means death. The shark has a never giving up attitude. The
shark is like a thief that tried to steal the Old Man s marlin without looking at the
risks.
In conclusion, the Old man learned many important morals and

This belief was a realisation by many in the late 20th Century and was reinforced by
the actions of local government and many major construction firms.

After the 1960 s, whole blocks were demolished by industry and government.
Streets including Point Street, Bulwara Road, Allen Street and Fig Street were
depleted and nothing took there place. By 1976, the population in the peninsula
decreased from 30,000 in the early 20th century to just 703 who were mainly
workers of local industries. Of these 703 residents Micheal R. Matthews[2] stated
many of the workers included 43 engineers; 14 clerks; 24 boiler makers and
machinists; 25 builders; 30 stonemasons; 3 dairy men; 16 blacksmiths and 13
butchers. All these employees were employed by the one hundred industries that
monopolised Pyrmont Ultimo in addition to there families that shared homes with
these workers and due to the dramatic changes these sort of industries no longer exist.
Nowadays the types of residents of the peninsula have changed significantly due to
the transformation of the peninsulas facilities and its close perimeter to the City
Business District. Younger residents have replaced older residents. [3]With 20 29
year olds now representing 55.3 per cent of the population and people over 65
represent just 1.4 percent of Pyrmont Ultimo, with the lowest of the population is

(France s public deficit= 8% of its GDP, USA=9.9% /References 3 4). The welfare
systems are being strained and this creates a climate of fear. A recent example would
be the reform of the retirement pensions in France and Greece, which both led to
major strikes.
However, while governments are trying to cut down on expenses, they are also
trying to increase their revenues through taxes. Barack Obama for instance proposes
$989 billion in new taxes over the course of the next 10 years, and most of these
taxes are directly related to individuals (Reference 5). Therefore, this will seriously
affect the buying power of consumers, and we can expect consequences in the
hospitality industry.
Another major political trend which is emerging notably, because of the unhappy
electorates, is a movement towards extremism from most political parties, who are
trying to satisfy people who are still afraid of the economic recession, the outsourcing
of jobs or the terrorist threat for example. The success of the extreme right wing in
Sweden recently is a good illustration of this phenomenon.
Economic Analysis
From studying the economic growth we can see that the general trend changed
from an increase of 3.1% for OCDE countries in 2006, to 2.7% in 2007, which
followed with a drop in 2008, and with the recession proceeded with a percentage of
0.3% in 2009 ( 3.4%)(Reference 6).
This drastic decrease was a result of the subprime crisis, which impacted the current

One such service was the Pinkerton Detective Agency. Holmes talks about how the
police were too incompetent to catch him and though he was worried about the

One of the strikes that the Pinkerton Detective agency was most famous for
stopping was the Homestead Strike. These strikes wouldn t be successful until the
next time period when the government starting listening to both the workers and
the employers. The Pinkerton Detective Agency is also important in the book
because one of their detectives, Frank Geyer, arrests Holmes for fraud for faking
the death of Benjamin Pietzel. It ends up being revealed that Holmes in fact did
kill Pietzel as well as many others. He was eventually executed (by hanging).
Another important service was the Colonel William Cody s (aka Buffalo Bill)

urban audiences. Buffalo Bill wanted his show to be part of the Columbian

Sexualized Teen Magazines
2.5.1.2Sexualized Teen Magazines Conjointly, teen magazines have gained much
popularity amongst youngsters by providing them with a plethora of information
about romantic relationships, fashion trends, friendships and sex related topics
(Joshi, 2012). Explicit details on sexual activities and the losing of virginity were
often discussed in such magazines (Kopacz, 2006). An analysis of the top four teen
magazines has established that dating and sex were prominent features of the
articles published (Kaiser Family Foundation cited in Johnson, 2015). For example,
sexual wanting occurred in magazines like Seventeen, CosmoGirl!, United States
Edition and Teen and encouraged girls to look more sexually attractive for boys
(Joshi, 2012). On the other hand, male youths were found to be actively looking for
sexual contents from magazines like Playgirl or Playboy, Men s Health and Men s

pyramid with Grandfather at the top and the persons paying the debt on the
bottom. I believe this debt inherited by them is not an honor but a way out for
someone higher up on the food chain. It does not seem fair that this obligation is
put on someone before they are born. How can this ever be fair? Because the family
bought into it it is assumed it is the best for those not yet born to pay? I believe

Explain The Steps Involved In A 4x100m Relay
The various aspects when considering movement skill development include body
control and awareness, technique, timing, anticipation and object manipulation. Body
control is the ability to co ordinate movements with precisions and balance and co
ordination are key. Whereas body awareness refers to the awareness and how
conscious an individual is when performing an action. An element that can be
claimed as the most important component involved in skill development is technique;
as it is the method used to perform a skill and perform it well. Furthermore,
anticipation is predicting what the impending actions will occur and timing is the
way in which parts of a particular movement flow together. And lastly, object
manipulation is the concern of... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Object manipulation is the ability to move and control an object used for the
particular sport. At the beginning of the race, especially if starting in blocks and in a
crouch position, being able to have a firm grip of the baton is essential and to
maintain this grip until it is passed. Also, the ability to maintain that strong grip and
have successful baton changes is extremely important. Although, if the baton is
dropped at any time due to lack of object control, the team is not disqualified and can
retrieve the baton and continue running, unless it leaves their lane. Without object
manipulation when participating in a 4x100m relay, the team would impair placing
and timing and also wouldn t be able to have successful baton changes and starts

Evolution Of Cats Essay
The house cat has been a favored companion for many years. Their small size and
independent tendencies makes them ideal pets for those who do not want a high
maintenance animal. They are quirky and show lots of love if you take care of them.
Cats are complex animals, but can be great pets. They have their own way of doing
things, but still can be a great companion. They have gone through a lot throughout
the years, yet still have barely changed. Cats are interesting in their own ways, both
their history and personalities.
The cat s scientific name is Eukaryota Anamalia Chordata Mammalia Carnivora

They have special adaptations that they have acquired through time and evolution.
On the outside, cats have whiskers on their face that help them to navigate (Foss,
Stewart Swift, 2008, p.12). They also have cupped ears that can rotate to catch
sound, which helps them to hunt (Foss, Stewart Swift, 2008, p.10). Their tongues
are covered in papillae to help scrape food off of bones or to clean itself (Foss,
Stewart Swift, 2008, p.10). Their fur coats protect them from cold, bug bites,
stings, and other irritants, and can also be raised when frightened or threatened to
seem larger in size (Foss, Stewart Swift, 2008, p.10). Not easily seen are the sweat
glands that cats only have on their paw pads (Foss, Stewart Swift, 2008, p.11).
Moving inward, cats have a very flexible spine, aiding them when falling to land on
their feet or to help them get into small spaces (Foss, Stewart Swift, 2008, p.12).
Most cats can see ultraviolet light (Foss, Stewart Swift, 2008, p.9). Evolution has
favored night vision over being able to see colors during the day (Foss, Stewart
Swift, 2008, p.9). Another part of the cat s night vision is that at the back of the eye,
there is a layer of cells that reflects the light (Foss, Stewart Swift, 2008, p.9). Cats
have to have a good sense of hearing and sight since they depend on that more than
smell when hunting (Foss, Stewart Swift, 2008,

Sigmund Freud
Sigmund Scholmo Freud was born on May 6, 1865 in Freiburg, Moravia. Freud
was orginally born Jewish but changed over to Atheism, later his Jewish past
would come back to haunt him. An interesting (yet disturbing) fact is that Freud s
mother, who was also his father s second wife, was only a few years older than his
two stepbrothers. Many people believe that this was a cause to why Freud to
believe that the psychological issues are related back to sexual issues in childhood,
since he had an psychological issue with this (Isbister, pg 9). As a child, Freud was
the favorite among his ten brothers and sisters and the most intelligent. He was the
only child among his siblings to get the best education that money could afford. When

Freud created the therapy couch to allow the patients to come into the office, have
a comfortable place to lie down, and just start to talk about themselves. Later, this
would be called free association because the Doctor would sit there with their
notebook, pen, and take down notes while the person was talking. Around 1890,
more people started to believe in what Freud was saying and soon they started to
come into visit Freud talked about their dreams. Here, Freud decided to take down
notes about the patient s dreams. Freud decided to call this method dream analysis
because he would use notebooks to write down the patient s dream exactly how
they described it. Then, he would analyze it from using key symbols that were in
the dream. He believed that every symbol had a reason or meaning behind it
because the person s unconscious part of their mind was trying to break out . The
patients repressed these memories for so long and now they are coming back to
the person to haunt them, thus causing the person to suffer from psychological
issues (this was also called neuroses). When Freud was learning about dream
analysis, nothing was safe because he believed that everything we did say or do and
didn t say or do related back some part of our unconscious (Isbister, pg.30). The
unconscious explained our behavior in everyday life.
He started to become more convinced of the connection between neurosis and sexual
conflict while he was developing psychoanalysis (

The Seven Deadly Sins Of Othello
The Seven Deadly Sins of Othello Throughout church history, the Seven Deadly
Sins, or Seven Mortal Sins as they are also known, have been seen as those that
threaten everlasting life. In early times, a list was help for the people who could not
read (Douglas). One cannot help but to see these sins throughout the drama of
Othello. Christians in the past used the seven deadly sinsto instruct on how to live a
holy life and to show how easily we are inclined to a sin nature. Shakespeare
incorporates these sins throughout the drama of Othello. The reader follows the
characters through the sins of wrath, pride, envy, lust, sloth, greed and gluttony to
the bitter end of this tragic love story. Shakespeare shows how easily it is to open
the door to the devil and how many lives it affects. William Shakespeare wrote
Othello in 1603. It is a tragic, love story full of love, honour, and betrayal. Othello
is the protagonist in this drama. He is a skilled fighter and he is not from Venice.
He falls in love with Desdemona, a beautiful and innocent woman from Venice. Her
father disowns her for the marriage because he is racist toward Othello. Iago is the
antagonist in the drama. The drama starts with him and shows that he is an
instigator. He manipulates his way in to the lives of all of the characters and gains
their trust. Iago is responsible for most of the sins. He takes on the role of Satan in
the ways that he entices the characters into sinning, which leads to their own
Two Reasons Why Mother Teresa Is A Hero
Attention Grabbing Device
Imagine people everywhere, lining alleyways. Homeless families begging for food
and diseases running rampant on the streets. These are the slums of Calcutta, India.
Life in this city is miserable, desperation pervades this hopeless environment. But
within there s still some optimism to be found. Strangely enough, it comes in the
form of a woman, barely five feet tall, and armed with nothing but kindness.
Thesis
Mother Teresa is a hero because she is selfless, courageous, and has strong leadership
abilities.

Mother Teresa was born in Skopje, Macedonia in 1910. At the age of 18 she joined a
group of nuns in Ireland. After months of training with the Sisters of Loreto, she

Mother Teresa gave up everything just to help those less fortunate. For example, in
1979 she won a Nobel Peace Prize with $192,000 worth of prize money and instead
of keeping she used it to create multiple homes for victims of leprosy. She was
commemorated with the highest honor, yet she was still thinking of others.
The second reason Mother Teresa is a hero is because she is courageous. For
instance, many people could have shunned her for helping the unwanted, but she
found the courage and strength in her heart to help those in need. Also, she helped a
particular group that had leprosy, which is a very contagious disease. She set up
many clinics in order to help these people even though she put herself at risk of
catching the disease.
The final reason Mother Teresa is a hero is because she was a strong leader. This
trait can be exemplified because she had a relentless focus on her mission helping
the poor. She effectively implemented her plan and cared for the people of
Calcutta. Mother Teresa was a situational leader, for example she helped people
according to their situation, if they were starving she would give them food, if they
were homeless she would provide a home for them to say at, or if they were sick she
helped them to heal. If a situation came, she would find a solution to help them in

several different types of glaucoma including: Open angle, normal tension, closed

considerable risk to your overall health (Turbert). When smoking marijuana the
active ingredient THC in some way has been proven to lower eye pressure levels.
In 4 hours, the pressure lowering effect of marijuana is gone. To maintain
continuous control of IOP, avoiding unhealthy peaks and valleys, it would be
necessary to smoke a joint about every 1 to 2 hours. That s several thousand

the pressure in an eye it may not be the most effective way in treating glaucoma.
Since glaucoma needs to be treated around the clock you would need to smoke

Edward Teach aka Blackbeard the Pirate
Edward Blackbeard Teach was undoubtedly one of the most feared and most
despised pirates of all time. Edward Teach is thought to have lived in England
before his pirate career, although his exact origins are unknown. He was named
Blackbeard , for his large black beard that almost covered his entire face. To strike
terror in the hearts of his enemies Blackbeardwould weave hemp into his hair, and
light it during battle. Edward Teach was an unusually large man, carrying two
swords, numerous knives, and pistols he was feared by his own crew.
At the sight of this pirate, many of his victims were quick to surrender without a
fight. If they did, he would often times just take their valuables, rum, and weapons
allowing them to sail away. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Soon Teach and the Queen Anne s Revenge met another pirate vessel. She was the
ten gun pirate sloop Revenge from Barbados, commanded by Stede Bonnet. Soon
after agreeing to sail together, Blackbeard thought that Bonnet was a poor leader and
an incompetent sailor. He promptly appointed a different pirate to command the
Revenge, and made Bonnet a guest aboard the Queen Anne s Revenge, where he
remained until the ship finally wrecked six months later.
In the winter of 1717 1718, Blackbeard sailed the Caribbean with his two ships.
While plundering vessels, Teach decided to add two more captured vessels to his
group of pirating watercraft. in the Spring of 1718 Blackbeard was in command of
four pirate ships, and well over 300 pirates.
In late May, Blackbeard s flagship was lost at Beaufort Inlet, and a smaller vessel
of his fleet was lost that same day while trying to assist the stranded Queen Anne s
Revenge. Before leaving Beaufort Inlet, Blackbeard left twenty five members of his
crew on a deserted rocky ledge, and stripped the Revenge of her provisions. Stede
Bonnet helped the marooned men, and in return they agreed to obey his commands.
Together with his crew, Bonnet resumed his lawless ways aboard the Revenge, which
he re named the Royal James.
Meanwhile, Teach and his crew had sailed to Bath, and then to the capital of North
Carolina, where Governor Charles Eden pardoned them. Blackbeard,
Textual Analysis Beowulf
Ms. Dawson, this poem is getting good a little too good. Lol. Well, Beowulf
decided to return a favor to King Hrothgar by coming to fight the big coward
Grendel. Lines 94 96 supports my idea of Beowulf wasn t afraid of nothing or
nobody. He could have been in the king s position, but he chose not too for the
simplest facts that he wasn t next in line. Although he was the strongest, he wanted to
do what was ethical. Beowulfdecided to take 14 of his best men because he knew they
were his ride or die. They weren t going to get scared and back down. His men
weren t cowards. Line 111 and 120 supports my decision to where they stayed
strapped and ready for who or whatever. In line 115 118, it describes their sign from
God whether or not they should go and fight this battle or to turn the boat around and

Sometimes I m not afraid to ask God to send me a sign. I need that sign. Life gets
hard, and I need God to show me the way. Beowulf and his men received that sign
when they traveled in a smooth ride. Line 153 helps to build the structure of the
epic poem and helps to create the scenery of when Beowulf meets one of King
Hrothgar guards. I started to see Beowulf being a cocky character. He s steady
trying to reel the guard in to let him through the gate. He gave the guard his father s
name that carriers a reputation to help lead him into the gate, but the guard got a
little attitude towards the way Beowulf was answering him. I personally don t
blame him. Beowulf even insulated King Hrothgar s men. He didn t want them to
help because they must wasn t doing nothing for twelve long dreary years. Why
should he need their help? Foolish, I know. Beowulf wanted them to be about not to
talk about. His men could talk all the noise they wanted and still be about. In life,
they tell you not to talk stuff you can t back
Competitive Sport And Its Effect On Sports
Competitive sport initially was an activity shared by people as a way of taking
their minds off the woes and miseries of life whether it be by spectating or being
directly involved with the game. Competitive sport should be used as a way to
socialise with friends through an activity which all enjoy. Looking at sport today we
wonder how it got to this point of failure. Competitive sport in the 21st century is
riddled with cheating, corruption and exploiting the lapses in the system. Money
laundering, illegal gambling, pseudo identities, the list goes on and on. I addition to
all these filthy traits, sport has been sufficiently supplying serious lifelong suffering
injuries to people ranging from early childhood to old age. Sport has become a
blemish that is deeply set within our society s culture.
It is well known around the world that sport generates most of its profits not off the
spectators nor advertising but the people wagering money on games or races. Of
the projected $95 billion dollars bet on NFL and college football in America in
2015, $93 billion will be done illegally. Illegal sports betting is reaching new
heights of popularity in America states American Gaming Association President and
CEO Geoff Freeman during a press release. The seriousness of illegal gambling in
America and around the world is unprecedented and increasing at chilling rates. The
2014 Super Bowl alone generated nearly $4 billion in illegal bets. Many experts and
government officials are calling

specific eclectic knowledge bases listed as the following: fields of practice, systems
theory, the ecological perspective, human behavior and the social environment, social

The third knowledge base is the ecological perspective which refers to living,

understanding of this perspective involves the realization that people have their
own contexts in their social environments. The fourth knowledge base is the
understanding of human behavior and the social environment, which requires the
awareness that people are constantly interacting with one another in accordance to
their immediate, social environment. A social worker that understands HBSE
would look not only at the client as the sole problem of a situation but would also
assess and explore the surrounding influences from the client s environment. The
fifth knowledge base is social welfare policy and policy practice. Social welfare
policies set the regulations of what types of social programs are available and to
whom they are available. Generalist social workers must be experienced in the
knowledge of these policies in order to successfully link clients to the resources that
they are eligible to

The Pyramid Of Djoser Complex And The Colosseum
The two works of art that I will be talking about are The Pyramid of Djoser
complex and The Colosseum. The subject that these two works of art share is
architecture. The Pyramid of Djoser complex was created by Imhotep who was the
vizier of Pharaoh Djoser. It was built during the 27th century BC for the burial of
Pharaoh Djoser. The medium used to make The Pyramid of Djosercomplex is stone.
The Roman Colosseumwas created under emperor Vespasianand was completed
under his successor and heir Titus. The art style for The Pyramid of Djoser
complex is an Egyptian kind of style. Construction for the Colosseum began in AD
72 and was completed in AD 80 under Titus. The medium that was used to create
the colosseum was concrete, stone and sand. The art style for the Colosseum is a
Roman kind of Style. In this essay I will be comparing The Pyramid of Djoser
complex and The Roman Colosseum and explain why The Roman Colosseum is a
much better work of art than The Pyramid of Djoser complex. The Pyramid of
Djoser complex was built in honor of the Pharaoh Djoser by his vizier named
Imhotep. This pyramid was the burial of the pharaoh and was the central feature of
a vast mortuary complex in a gigantic courtyard. This was surrounded by ceremonial

Coal Mining and Its Impacts
Coal is a hard, black colored rock like substance. It is made up of carbon, hydrogen,
nitrogen, and varying amount of sulphur. Coal was form as decomposition took
place in the absence of oxygen and much of the hydrogen content of the matter was
eroded away, leaving a material rich in carbon. The material was compressed over the
years by sand and dirt, leaving the form of a carbon known as coal. The different
types of coals are Anthracite, bituminous, lignite, peat, coke, and charcoal. Coal is
mined out of the ground and used to produce energy. However, they are many deaths,

I strongly believe that people should be educated about the December, 1907 3,000
coal mining deaths. In 2001 there were 42 coal mining deaths. All these deaths meant

many house holds; which, would later add to poverty and single parents.
Lung disease and accidents have always led to high rates of death or disability
amongst miners. The lung diseases that affect miners are called pneumoconiosis or
black lung. Coal worker s pneumoconiosis can be defined as the accumulation of coal

Analysis Of The Poem Lorena By Lucille Clifton
Though out this class I learned a lot, I never really read much poetry and did not
realize how much meaning poems can have. I am glad that we read so many
different types and styles of poems and books. It really helped me get a well
rounded understanding of poetry. My favorite unit was the collection unit. The other
poems we read taught me a lot about the other topics we touched on as well. Before
this class I never really gave poetrymuch thought, this class opened up my eyes to
how important poetry really is. The poem that stood out to me the most from the
speaker, and narrative vs lyric unit was Lorena by Lucille Clifton. I really enjoyed
this poem and it made it easy for me to understand the concept of speakers. Lucille
Clifton wrote the poem, but wrote it about a experience Lorena Bobbit went
through. It was hard for me to understand how a poem could have a speaker other
then the author but this one made me see how sometimes the author is not
necessarily the speaker. I thought about/authority and how it always insisted/on
itself (pg. 57, 2 4). These lines contain the phrase I , but when Clifton uses the
phrase I , she herself is not the individual, Lorena Bobbit is meant to be the speaker.
This poem was a narrative, it told a story about the even Lorena actually lived
through. It really stood out to me a lot and helped me understand the concept on a
deeper level. The poem that stood out to me the most from the imagery and figurative

enlightenment while on Earth where they are able to understand what it truly means

Discussion Essays. How to write discussion essay

  • 1. Discussion Essays Crafting an essay on the subject of "Discussion Essays" can be both challenging and intellectually rewarding. The difficulty lies in navigating the nuanced landscape of presenting balanced arguments, analyzing various perspectives, and forming a cohesive narrative that engages the reader. Discussion essays demand a deep understanding of the topic, critical thinking skills, and the ability to communicate complex ideas effectively. To begin, one must delve into extensive research to gather relevant information and diverse viewpoints. This process involves sifting through various sources, deciphering academic articles, and staying updated with current debates on the subject. It requires time, patience, and a discerning eye to filter through the plethora of information available and identify credible sources. Structuring the essay poses another hurdle. A well-crafted discussion essay requires a clear introduction, a body that presents arguments logically, and a conclusion that ties everything together. Striking the right balance between presenting opposing views and asserting one's stance without appearing biased demands finesse. Each paragraph should flow seamlessly into the next, building a coherent and persuasive argument. Moreover, crafting a compelling thesis statement is essential. This statement should encapsulate the main idea of the essay, providing a roadmap for the reader. Ensuring that the thesis aligns with the arguments presented and is defensible adds an additional layer of complexity. Furthermore, the language used in a discussion essay must be precise and articulate. Clarity is paramount, and juggling complex ideas while maintaining readability can be a delicate task. Striking the right tone is also crucial – maintaining objectivity while injecting a personal voice to keep the reader engaged is a constant balancing act. In conclusion, writing a discussion essay requires a multifaceted approach that encompasses research, critical thinking, effective communication, and structural finesse. It is a challenging yet intellectually stimulating endeavor that hones one's analytical and writing skills. With dedication and perseverance, however, the writer can navigate these challenges and produce a thought- provoking piece. For those seeking assistance in navigating the intricacies of essay writing or exploring diverse topics, similar essays and much more can be ordered on HelpWriting.net. • 2. A Note On Phonemic Awareness Phonemic awareness is the knowledge that words are made up of phonemes, the smallest units of sound in a word. Phonemic awareness also involves being able to manipulate sounds by blending them, taking them apart, and changing them. For example, the word bat, is made up of three phonemes. The first is /b/, the second is /a/, and the third is /t/. Putting all of these graphemes together makes the word bat. If I were to change the /b/ to a /r/, the word would change to an entirely different animal (Cunningham Allington, 2007). DIBELS First Sound Fluency: DIBELS First Sound Fluency measures how well students can say the initial sounds in words. To start, the assessor will model the first word in man. Listen, the first sound in man is /m/. What is the first sound in man? If the student is right, they move onto the initial sound in sun. When students can correctly identify that sun, begins with /s/, students move on to the actual assessment. The examiner verbally presents ~30 stimulus words. When students correctly identify the initial sound, in isolation, students are given two points. If they blend sounds, they earn one. If they say the incorrect sounds, they receive zero ( DIBELS FSF, n.d.). Pals K has multiple means of assessment for phonemic awareness. 1.Rhyme awareness: requires students to identify rhyming words. 2.Beginning sound awareness: similar to DIBELS FSF, students are asked to identify the initial sounds in various words. PALS K aids in

Margaret Thatcher s political career has been one of the most remarkable of modern times she served as British Prime Minister for more than eleven years (1979 90), a record unmatched in the twentieth century. During her term of office she reshaped almost every aspect of British politics, reviving the economy, reforming outdated institutions, and reinvigorating the nation s foreign policy. Privatisation and deregulation were famous changes implemented by Thatcher. The policy of Privatisation has been called a crucial ingredient of Thatcherism . After the 1983 election the sale of state utilities accelerated; more than ВЈ29 billion was raised from the sale of nationalised industries, and another ВЈ18 billion from the sale of council houses. The process of privatisation, especially the preparation of nationalised industries for privatisation, was associated with marked improvements in performance, particularly in terms of labour productivity. Some of the privatised industries including gas, water, and electricity, were natural monopolies for which privatisation involved little increase in competition. The privatisation allowed people to become more involved in the buying of shares in companies. Although this did not work as well as Thatcher would have hoped as many of the richer part of society bought as many shares at they could. Many people denounced this policy as an Elitist policy. The privatisation of public companies was combined with financial deregulation in an attempt to encourage economic growth. Geoffrey Howe Thatcher s Chancellor of the

These machines are everywhere, from our homes to stores and even classrooms. While all of us may not be television junkies, many of us do occasionally watch a show here and there. The issue of what can be shown on broadcast television has been at the center of conversation for years, especially the issue of airing nudity on television. Ask anyone who watched Superbowl XXXVIII in 2004 what the final score was and they may not remember, but they will definitely remember what happened during the halftime show, when Janet Jackson s breast was exposed to the entire American audience due to a wardrobe malfunction. ... Fast forward to today s era of television and there is the overall performance of the Superbowl halftime show, where there Jackson s outfit reveals cleavage and there tends to be no controversy over her plunging neckline. So while moral values may have declined in America, going to the extreme, such as airing a bare breast, is still too much for some Americans to withstand. According to information found by Triplett, more than 530,000 complaints were made to the FCC after the Superbowl incident (n.p.). From that, plunging necklines have now become acceptable, but revealing a bare breast still causes great controversy, even when it was just an accident. The sexuality that arises from the event is what is fueling the debate over nudity in television, which leads in to my next point that the general American society perceives nudity as

Juvenile Delinquency Juvenile delinquency is the habitual committing of criminal acts or offenses by a young person, especially one below the age at which ordinary criminal prosecution is possible. Up until recently juvenile delinquency only accounted for males. However, girls are now the fastest growing segment of the juvenile justice system, even though the rates of juvenile offending are declining. Due to the increase of the female juvenile population, some female juveniles are being held in adult prisons. Because the rates of female offending has been on the rise, there has been an increase in the likelihood that a teen would be arrested while she is pregnant. There are approximately 24,000 pregnant teens arrested a year, which is 670 on a given day. The chances of a girl being arrested while she is pregnant is somewhat high due to the fact that about 85% of girls that are detained are sexually active and fewer than 50% of them use some form of protection. Because the amount of female juveniles being detained are increasing and the juvenile justice system was geared more towards the male population, there are several resources that are lacking especially for pregnant teens and teen mothers. In the novel Inside This Place, Not of It by Ayelet Waldman and Robin Levi, the narrative on Olivia Hamilton, though she may not be a teen, provides a great example of the lack of services available to pregnant inmates and mothers. Olivia Hamilton was arrested for embezzling money to pay her bills. At

Freud decided to call this method dream analysis because he would use notebooks to write down the patient s dream exactly how they described it. Then, he would analyze it from using key symbols that were in the dream. He believed that every symbol had a reason or meaning behind it because the person s unconscious part of their mind was trying to break out . The patients repressed these memories for so long and now they are coming back to the person to haunt them, thus causing the person to suffer from psychological issues (this was also called neuroses). When Freud was learning about dream analysis, nothing was safe because he believed that everything we did say or do and didn t say or do related back some part of our unconscious (Isbister, pg.30). The unconscious explained our behavior in everyday life. He started to become more convinced of the connection between neurosis and sexual conflict while he was developing psychoanalysis (

The Seven Deadly Sins Of Othello The Seven Deadly Sins of Othello Throughout church history, the Seven Deadly Sins, or Seven Mortal Sins as they are also known, have been seen as those that threaten everlasting life. In early times, a list was help for the people who could not read (Douglas). One cannot help but to see these sins throughout the drama of Othello. Christians in the past used the seven deadly sinsto instruct on how to live a holy life and to show how easily we are inclined to a sin nature. Shakespeare incorporates these sins throughout the drama of Othello. The reader follows the characters through the sins of wrath, pride, envy, lust, sloth, greed and gluttony to the bitter end of this tragic love story. Shakespeare shows how easily it is to open the door to the devil and how many lives it affects. William Shakespeare wrote Othello in 1603. It is a tragic, love story full of love, honour, and betrayal. Othello is the protagonist in this drama. He is a skilled fighter and he is not from Venice. The drama starts with him and shows that he is an instigator. He manipulates his way in to the lives of all of the characters and gains their trust. Iago is responsible for most of the sins. These are the slums of Calcutta, India. Life in this city is miserable, desperation pervades this hopeless environment. But within there s still some optimism to be found. Strangely enough, it comes in the form of a woman, barely five feet tall, and armed with nothing but kindness. Thesis Mother Teresa is a hero because she is selfless, courageous, and has strong leadership abilities. Bio Mother Teresa was born in Skopje, Macedonia in 1910. Mother Teresa gave up everything just to help those less fortunate. For example, in 1979 she won a Nobel Peace Prize with $192,000 worth of prize money and instead of keeping she used it to create multiple homes for victims of leprosy. She was commemorated with the highest honor, yet she was still thinking of others. The second reason Mother Teresa is a hero is because she is courageous. For instance, many people could have shunned her for helping the unwanted, but she found the courage and strength in her heart to help those in need. Also, she helped a particular group that had leprosy, which is a very contagious disease. She set up many clinics in order to help these people even though she put herself at risk of catching the disease. The final reason Mother Teresa is a hero is because she was a strong leader. This trait can be exemplified because she had a relentless focus on her mission helping the poor. She effectively implemented her plan and cared for the people of Calcutta. Mother Teresa was a situational leader, for example she helped people according to their situation, if they were starving she would give them food, if they were homeless she would provide a home for them to say at, or if they were sick she helped them to heal. If a situation came, she would find a solution to help them in some

Edward Teach was an unusually large man, carrying two swords, numerous knives, and pistols he was feared by his own crew. He s steady trying to reel the guard in to let him through the gate. He gave the guard his father s name that carriers a reputation to help lead him into the gate, but the guard got a little attitude towards the way Beowulf was answering him. I personally don t blame him. Beowulf even insulated King Hrothgar s men. He didn t want them to help because they must wasn t doing nothing for twelve long dreary years. Why should he need their help? Foolish, I know. Beowulf wanted them to be about not to talk about. His men could talk all the noise they wanted and still be about. The other poems we read taught me a lot about the other topics we touched on as well. Before this class I never really gave poetrymuch thought, this class opened up my eyes to how important poetry really is. The poem that stood out to me the most from the speaker, and narrative vs lyric unit was Lorena by Lucille Clifton. I really enjoyed this poem and it made it easy for me to understand the concept of speakers. Lucille Clifton wrote the poem, but wrote it about a experience Lorena Bobbit went through. The Meaning Of Life Essay Over the course of history, the entirety of the human race has been in a state of constant reflection upon what it truly means to partake in society s mutual continuance. For the common man, the meaning of life seems to be a concept that sits beyond one s reach. Such an abstract thought is almost exclusively reserved for those who have passed on from this world. This is because of the fact that they enjoy the privilege of simply asking whoever waits for them up above in Heaven or down below in Hell. Few lucky members of humanity have achieved such a level of enlightenment while on Earth where they are able to understand what it truly means to exist. Despite the humantendency to lack insight, when carefully analyzed, the question what is the meaning of lifebecomes rather simplistic. While one endeavours upon the journey that is characterized as life, it is necessary that they experience three major aspects that encompass what it means to live. While a person prevails over existence, they must experience suffering, learn about the world around them, and know the full depth of human affection whether it be for another person, a non intelligent being, or materialistic item. Throughout a person s life, suffering is inevitable. Those who take advantage of their short time on Earth will no doubt experience suffering in many a way or form. First off, mental anguish is commonplace around the world, being both the most prevalent and irreparable form of suffering. Modern
