I am confronting you about a book that my 7th grade son, Micah White, brought
home from school on October 10, 2016. The book is titled The Things They
Carried by Tim O Brien. This book is about the Vietnam war. It talks about what the
men brought with them into the war, and then ultimately what they bring back
home in their minds. Now I am not sure if you have read this book before, but I
was shocked by what my son was talking about that was in the book. There is such
foul language, violence and gore in the book. Making it inappropriate for 13 year old
s. I believe that this book should not be available for any middle schoolstudent that
knows nothing of the Vietnam war or what those men went through. I believe that
they are just too young to understand.
One of the more egregious parts of the book that offeneds is the language, most of

some sort of flood damage during that event, and 124 sewage treatment plants were
affected by the flood, with 14 of them spilling raw sewage into waterways. Reports
indicate that mold infestation, which can cause adverse health effects, is now a major

The Struggle to Manhood In the world of The Man Who Was Almost a Man , Dave
is the seventeen year old main character and narrator of Richard Wright s short story.
Dave is an African American sharecropper who lives with his family on a white
plantation owner s land. Set in the Jim Crow South, independence is a trait that not
many Americans possess. Under Jim Crow laws, the status of an African American
man is undermined. It is humiliating to many of the men it affects because they are
often referred to as boy , and they may never achieve full citizenship due to their race.
The idea of authority holds a specific meaning towards men. Being a true man
during this time insinuates that you hold certain governance over someone or
something, like a white plantation owner will possess a heightened sense of rule
because they almost have ownership over their workers. Dave considers the gun a
phallic symbol that will solidify his power and authority that is needed for him to
step into manhood. Dave has been denied authority at home because he is still

Restriction Enzyme Digest and Preparation of the DNA Samples
Four microcentrifuge tubes were placed in a rack, labeled and numbered, in order to
identify the group and the DNA/restriction enzyme that it held. Each of the tubes
initially received 10 microliters of reaction buffer. There were two samples of suspect
DNA provided along with two restriction enzymes (EcoRI and HindIII). Tubes
labeled 1 and 2 received 15 ОјL of DNA from suspect one while tubes 3 and 4
received 15 ОјL of DNA from suspect two. Following that, 15 ОјL of Enzyme 1
(EcoRI) were added to tubes 1 and 3, and 15 ОјL of Enzyme 2 (HindIII) were added
to tubes 2 and 4. (Table 1). The tubes were then gently tapped on the counter to mix
the DNA and enzyme solution followed by incubation at 37В°C for 45 minutes. After
incubation, 5 ОјL of 10x gel loading dye were added to each of the four tubes of
suspect DNA. The tubes were then placed on ice while the gel was under preparation.

To prepare the 0.8% w/v gel, a solution of 50 mL of 1x TBE Buffer was added to a
