Example Of Scientific Essay
Crafting an essay on the topic of "Example of Scientific Essay" poses a unique set of challenges
that demands a meticulous approach. Firstly, it requires a deep understanding of the scientific
method and the ability to convey complex ideas in a clear and concise manner. The writer must
possess not only a strong command of language but also a profound grasp of scientific concepts,
theories, and methodologies.
The process involves thorough research to gather credible sources and relevant data, ensuring the
essay is not only informative but also supported by evidence. Translating scientific jargon into
accessible language for a broader audience adds another layer of complexity. Striking the right
balance between technical accuracy and readability becomes crucial to effectively communicate
the subject matter.
Moreover, the structure of a scientific essay necessitates a logical flow, with a well-defined
introduction, a comprehensive literature review, a methodical presentation of results, and a
thought-provoking conclusion. Each section demands careful consideration and adherence to
specific guidelines.
The challenge lies not only in presenting information coherently but also in addressing potential
counterarguments and providing a nuanced perspective. The writer must showcase critical
thinking skills by analyzing the implications of the scientific findings and placing them within
the broader context of the field.
Editing and proofreading are equally essential, as precision in language and formatting is
paramount in scientific writing. The smallest errors or inconsistencies can undermine the
credibility of the entire essay.
In conclusion, crafting an essay on the topic of a scientific example demands a combination of
research prowess, linguistic skill, and a deep understanding of scientific principles. It is a task
that requires dedication, attention to detail, and a commitment to presenting complex
information in a way that is both accessible and intellectually satisfying.

International Monetary Fund And The World Bank
THE WORLD BANK AND IMF HIPC
International Monetary Fund and The World Bank, though has a good purpose of
their existence, they have come under lots of criticisms as to how they use the
leverage of being in a position of helping poor countries to either recover from
economic collapse or give them debt relief and economic boost from loans they give
out to them to impose policies and condition that those poor countries has to
implement. These loan conditions and policies structured by these international
financial power institutions are geared towards moving resources from the poor
countries to the rich western countries. The end result is creating a situation where
the poor countries sunk into more economic suicidal condition in which ... Show more

Psychodynamic Perspective On Domestic Violence
According to the United States Department of Health and Human Services, between
3.3 million and 10 million children will witness domestic violence (USDHHS, 2006).
Whether or not the children in a violent home are abused themselves, they will often
suffer from emotional and psychological trauma. Children that grow up in a home
where there is domestic violencenotice that intimidationand violence is used as
control over another being. Often times, children that are raised in an abusive home
will use violence as a way to fix conflict. According to the psychodynamic perspective
the theory is concerned with how internal processes such as needs, drives, and
emotions motivate human behavior (Hutchinson, 2013). According to Hutchinson,

I had always heard about domestic violence and knew what it entailed but to fully
know about the psychological and emotional toil that it took on women and their
children was more than I could have imagined. In just my short seven months of
working at the crisis center, I have met more women like Kim that was mentioned
earlier than I can even begin to count. Growing up in such a rural part of Georgia,
one believes that such violence does not occur in their little hometown but that is
far from the truth. I have come across many women that do not have the support of
their families. I have heard reasons that range from the kids need their dad to

experiences that they have had with local law enforcement so they are afraid to
even report any abuse. Being in such a small area, many of the perpetrators know
the law enforcement officials and judges personally and this creates a conflict of
interest. Other women have fought back while being beat and have been arrested,
too so they fear of going to jail again if they try to defend themselves. Most of the
women that I have spoken with during intake sit and cry uncontrollably while casting
blame on themselves. My time volunteering turned into my time wanting to make a
difference in the community in which I live in. I can no longer stay quiet on this

Personal Development Plan Essay
Define Personal Development Plan
Often people say, There is always a room for improvement, and to make it viable
there are few things that can be adopted in life. Have you ever thought of Personal
Development Plan? It is a roadmap to your personal growth and one can expect to
achieve success through proper planning.
It is actually a practice that revolves round the goals decided by individual that
emphasizes on specific areas of Personal Development. Through Personal
Development, it is possible to identify the skills that should be polished and adopt
different abilities.
It is to be noted that framing such a plan without any basic framework can be quite
tiring. Hence, in such a scenario, it is best that a Personal Development Planning
template be followed to ensure that there is no glitch in the plan.
What is Personal Development Planning?
Before, getting into depth of Personal Development Planning, it is necessary to
understand what it is. It is a process that helps to develop an action plan depending
on values, self awareness, goals and plan that is essential for Personal Development.
It is actually adopted in reference to education, career or even for relationship
development. With the free template you can minimize the chance of doing mistakes
in PDP.
Today, most of the people are career oriented and want to achieve success in their life,
so goal setting is MUST. But, there are many who do not believe in setting up of
goals for different areas in regard to Personal
Things They Carried in The Great Train Robbery and The...
The soldiers that fought in the Vietnam War had to endure many incredibly
horrifying experiences. It was these events that led to great human emotions. It was
those feelings that were the things they carried. Everything they carried affected on
them whether it was physical or mental. Every thing they carried could in one way
or another cause them to emotionally or physically break down. Pain, loss, a sense
of safety and fear were probably the most challenging emotional, and psychological
feelings for them to carry. Pain: one of the most crippling emotions that the human
can experience. Pain is caused in many ways. There is emotional pain and physical
pain. The soldiers of the Vietnam War felt both of these types of pain during their one

All of the soldiers needed to keep going in order to survive the war. These soldiers
also had to endure emotional pain from the things that they carried, and this emotion
had to be carried with them adding of to the previous pain caused by the physical
things that the soldiers carried. Numerous things could cause the emotional pain
that they carried. A common pain that soldiers felt was the pain of one of their
friends dying. In many cases this pain would never leave the soldier. Some soldiers
had to carry this emotion for the rest of their lives. This can be seen in The Things
They Carried when Tim talks about Kiowa and Curt Lemon:
I m forty three years old, and a writer now, and the war has been over for a long
while. Much of it is hard to remember. I sit at this typewriter and stare through my
words and watch Kiowa sinking into the deep muck of a shit field, or Curt Lemon
hanging in pieces from a tree, and as I write about these things, the remembering is
turned into a kind of rehappening. Kiowa yells at me. Curt Lemon steps from the
shade into bright sunlight, his face brown and shining, and then he soars into a tree.
The bad stuff never stops happening: it lives in its own dimension, replaying itself
over and over. (O Brien 31)
There is no better way to explain this. The words that Tim writes prove that there is
no greater loss then losing
Poetic Devices In Kubla Khan
Introduction: S.T Coleridge s Kubla Khan is a visionary poem of 54 lines, about the
magical, mystical place, Xanadu where the heavenly paradise is overshadowed by a
hint of evil. The poem has three types of poetic elements which will be discussed
along with relevant examples. First, the poem is replete with powerful visual imagery
which explains the theme and brings to life the vivid imagination of the poet. Second,
sound has been used to convey not just motion and energy but also a musical effect
due to the use of alliteration, assonance and anaphora. Third, the rhythm or the
unusual rhymescheme increases the creative impact of the poem.

induced state of mind, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When Coleridge wrote the poem, the first 36 lines were written in third person, in a
trancelike state where he describes a grandiose palace with miles of surrounding
countryside. The rest of the poem was written in first person after a visitor interrupted
him causing him to lose his train of thought so that he could no longer recollect the
dream in totality. There are four ways in which rhythm has been effectively utilized
though the poem does not follow a traditional pattern. First, the meter or pattern of
stressed, i.e. long and unstressed, i.e. short syllable changes throughout the poem.
Iambic tetrameter has been used in the first stanza, in lines 1 to 4, for e.g.

Voldemort, Harry Potteris determined to find a way to kill Voldemort. The only
way to kill Voldemort is by destroying his Horcruxes, parts of his soul that he has
put into different objects or things. Now, with the help of his best friends, Ron, and
Hermione, Harry is ready to leave Hogwarts in search of the Horcruxes, which can
only be destroyed by using the Sword of Gryffindor.
After finding a Horcrux that had been sealed into a locket, Harry, Ron, and
Hermione run to the woods, with no plan as to how they can acquire another
Horcrux. Out of frustration, Ron abandons the group, leaving Harry, and Hermione
to find the rest of Horcruxes. One night, Harry finds a sword, which happens to be
the Sword of Gryffindor, submerged in water under ice. In a desperate attempt to
further their plan, Harry breaks the ice and jumps in. After struggling, to get out of
the water, Ron shows up and helps Harry get out, as well as destroying the Horcrux

Chromatography Lab
Introduction:
Chromatography is a technique used by scientists to separate a mixture, known or
unknown, into each component present in the mixture. For chromatography to be
completed there has to be a mobile and stationary phase present. The mobile phase in
chromatography is any liquid or gas containing the substance to be separated. The
stationary phase acts as a magnet in which certain substances will be more attracted
to than others and each different component will travel up in a unique pattern and
height. There are two different types of chromatography gas chromatography (GC)
and liquid chromatography (LC or HPLC). In GC the mobile phase is a gas and the
stationary phase is a solid in column form (generally metallic or glass tube), in this
type of chromatography the analyte must pass through the high pressure gas cylinder
(mobile phase) this analyte will then being to react with the walls of the column
containing the stationary phase and depending on the attraction each compound has
with this stationary phase it will elute at different times, i.e. The retention time. ...

Thin Layer Chromatograph works using the same principle as all chromatographic
methods. In TLC the stationary phase used is a thin layer usually of silica gel or a
sheet of material coated in alumina and the mobile phase is a set saturation of any
suitable liquid containing the mixture we wish to separate. It is set up so that the
stationary phase is upright and placed on a low level of the liquid mobile phase,
marking where this liquid reaches with a pencil line, on that pencil line a spot of
the mixture to be separated is placed. As the mobile phase is absorbed by the
stationary phase, or the TLC plate, the mixture should travel up also separating into
its components depending on their attraction to the TLC plate as it rises. It is
possible in TLC to use pre coated thin layer sheets or to prepare the sheets
Effective Classroom Management And Its Effect On

Classroom management creates a set of expectations used in an organized classroom
environment. It includes routines, rules and consequences. Effective classroom
management paves the way for me as a teacher to engage my students in learning.
Classroom management has an impact of teacher effectiveness on student
achievement. Effective teachers can prevent all discipline problems by keeping
students interested in learning through the use of exciting classroom materials and
activities. Some say the most effective teachers are the ones that have great classroom
managementskills. What we all wantas educators is a self governed classroom that
can govern self by using procedures, rules and routines. Classroom management is
having a self governed classroom by procedures, rules and routines.
According to Wong, the characteristics of a classroom that has highly effective
classroom management are: The students are deeply involved with their work,
especially with academic, teacher led instruction. Students know what is expected of
them and are generally successful. There is relatively little wasted time, confusion, or
disruption. The climate of the classroom is work oriented, but relaxed and pleasant.

An effective teacher has high level of student involvement with their work. This can
be done by making lessons highly engaging and fast paced. To keep the engagement
going in a classroom teachers can provide team work on assignments, allow the

the alias BTK. Rader gave himself this name standing for, Bind, Kill, Torture .
Dennis Rader did not want to get caught for the murders, but like most serial killers,

the authorities and media. On January 19, 1991, Rader killed and tortured Dolores

Seismic Profile Essay
Use of Seismics for Lithology Characterization Aditya Chakravarty Abstract This
paper studies the application of Rock Physics Models by using Seismic and Well
log data to characterize the reservoir sedimentological parameters (viz. Porosity,
sorting, cement content and fluid saturation). When properly constrained by local
subsurface environment, rock physics models can be used to predict the reservoir
quality away from wells. Various researchers have applied a combination of
theoretical and heuristic models to generate diagnostic Rock Physics templates (RPT
s). These RPT s show the trend of Seismic attributes (Acoustic impedance, VP/VS
ratio, Elastic Moduli and) of rocks with changing geological parameters like
cementing, sorting,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These models premise that the inclusions are ellipsoidal or penny shaped. Although
the Inclusion Models have significantly furthered our understanding of the effects of
compliant inclusions in rocks, the simplistic assumption of the pore shapes makes it
difficult to compare them to actual pore geometries. Displacement Discontinuity
models represent the elastic response of rocks with oriented fractures under low
frequency (e.g. Schoenberg and Douma, 1988; Sayers and Kachanov, 1995;
Schoenberg and Sayers 1995). These models assume fractures to be infinitesimally
thin displacement breaks which are defined by their normal and shear compliances.
This represents the additional compliance of the rock in comparison to the matrix,
due to the presence of fractures. Their usage necessitates the knowledge of fracture
compliances and over simplifies the complex nature of fractures as mere planes of
discontinuity. Computational Models (e.g. Knackstedt et al., 2009) represent the
actual geometry of the porous dry frame through rigorous imaging using Computed
Tomography (CT) scanning. The mechanical response of the rock is also computed,
using Finite Element Modelling (FEM) and Discrete Element Modelling (DEM)
schemes. The obvious merit of such models is the realistic representation of the
geometry and elastic moduli. A high computational capability requirement and
expensive equipment for pore scale imaging are the factors that limit their usage.

Summary Person Centered Therapy was developed by Carl Rogers in the 1940 s
and 1950 s. It remains a relevant technique practiced today. This article researched the
relevance of Person Centered Therapy since Carl Rogers s death in the late 1987. The
article determined the relevance of this by using three measures. First, how often
Person Centered Therapy was included in organizations, journals, and institutes
dedicated to this approach. Secondly, it researched how often Person Centered

It was proposed that Person Centered Therapy would help the counselor with building
empathy with the combat veteran (Quinn, 2008). Posttraumatic Stress Disorder
amongst our combat veterans continues to have an impact on individuals, families,
and the community as a whole. Counselors need to be willing to try different
approaches to be most effective with clients. The fact that Person Centered Therapy
can be effective with combat veterans and that counselors are continuing to find ways
to utilize it with today s society again proves that its relevance continues. All
professional counselors have the ethical and legal duty to help their clients to the best
of their ability. Counselors using Person Centered Therapy are no exception to this
rule. It is up to the counselor to gage the best therapeutic benefit within their scope of
knowledge for their clients when choosing approaches and theories. In conclusion, I
would have to agree with the article that Person Centered Therapy remains an
important aspect in counseling today. It continues to be taught not only in entry level
college courses but amongst graduate school students as well. Person Centered
Therapy has continued to be researched to see its effectiveness amongst different
populations such as combat war veterans and multicultural populations.

From this story, Daedalus can be characterized as brilliant, ignorant, irrational, and
egotistical. When characterizing Icarus, Daedalus son, one of the best parts that
describes Icarus is when his father is making the wings. And Icarus, his son, stood
by and watched him, Not knowing he was dealing with his downfall, Stood by and
watched, and raised his shiny face To let a feather, light as down, fall on it, Or stuck
his thumb into the yellow wax, Fooling around, the way a boy will, always (Ovid 14
20).
With this quote, it shows Icarus immaturity, foolish and playfulness when it comes
to his father s inventions and his life. Icarus is a young boy which is evident from
the quote above because he is playing with the wax and watching and admiring his
dad. If it was an older boy, he d probably be off by himself or helping his father with
his inventions instead of playing with the wax in the wings. Icarus is an innocent
boy who doesn t understand the importance of being responsible. Not being
responsible leads him to his death, which could have been avoided if he had paid
attention to what his father had told him. Icarus got swept up in the moment when he
was flying, and lost all of his thoughts which lead him to the mistake of flying too
high. And the boy Thought This is wonderful! And left his father, Soared higher,

Nathaniel Hawthorne s The Birth-Mark
Nathaniel Hawthorne s The Birth Mark is full of symbolism that all play into a
central theme. The birth mark itself, contrast between the lab and boudoir, and
Aylmer s dream all help to build a theme of science versus nature. Georgiana s birth
mark is the most obvious bit of symbolism. There is a small mark ...in the center of
Georgiana s left cheek there was a singular mark, deeply interwoven, as it were,
with the texture and substance of her face. (Hawthorne 341). The birth mark
represents humanity and morality. This is obvious in the above quote when it
says it was interwoven meaning it s part of what makes her human. Aylmer viewed
the small imperfection as a symbol that one day everyone will eventually die and
he fears this fact. Aylmer wants nothing more than to rid his wife of her mark.
Georgiana, said he, has it never occurred to you that the mark upon your cheek
might be removed? (341). There is one thing he knows he can t fix or prevent with
science and that s death. Georgiana finally agrees to let Aylmer try to use his
science to get rid of the birth mark. In which he succeeds but in doing so he kills
his wife. Georgianna was perfect in every way except for the birth mark. By Aylmer
getting rid of the imperfection, he took away... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

In the dream Aylmer attempts to cut off Georgianna s birth mark. The symbolism
becomes evident when Aylmer finds that the mark in his dream goes deep and
eventually leads to her heart. I know not what may be the cost to both of us to rid
me of this fatal birthmark. Perhaps its removal may cause cureless deformity; or it
may be the stain goes as deep as life itself. (343). The symbolizes that the mark is
indeed the one thing that makes perfect Georgianna human and when it is taken
away she will surely die. The question can be raised: did Aylmer know that there
was no way to rid of her of the mark but proceeded anyway in a attempt to cheat
death or prove his experiments are
Shy Species Preferred Seahorse Habitats
Terms of Reference Background Seahorses are an iconic, shy species that have
become adapted to live in a variety of habitats. They have the ability to camouflage
and a prehensile tail that can only be forcibly unlocked in the most extremes of
weather. They have the ability to grow and reabsorb spiny appendages on their
body, depending on the habitat they live in. The seahorse male is the only male
animal in the world to have a true, full pregnancy. There are two species of
Seahorse in the British Isles, the spiny seahorse (Hippocampus guttulatus) and the
short snouted seahorse (Hippocampus hippocampus); both widely distributed and
both specialising in differing habitats due to subtle differences in the shape of the
snout and body and their dietary needs, although they can also be occasionally
found in the same habitat together (Garrick Maidment 2004). Seahorses are
typically found in pairs, once they have migrated back into shallow waters from
their deeper, winter refuge. They are normally observed in shallower water of 2
meter (m) as the sea temperature warms up to 9 ВєC or more (Garrick Maidment,
2013), they then form... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

habitats in the case of non quantitative data, mainly for this seahorses sighting

problem in determining the species distribution and accurately determining
population sizes, more exploratory analysis and investigation of selected sites will
be undertaken to see why some of the preferred habitats have no records of sightings
(lack of survey, under reporting or poor environmental condition, for example).
Hence, logistic regression for presence and absence is one option while Generalised

We wanted them to be the biggest things on campus, and they were. Chesky and

Essay On The Book Thief
I ve seen a great many things, attended the world s worst disasters, worked for a
great many villains. Death (Markus Zusak, pg. 549) The Holocaust has been
remembered for one of the worst genocidal acts to ever occur in human history.
Over 11 million people were brutally murdered and killed, 6 million of them were
Jewish. Stories such as The Book Thief and Night reflect on that time in history.
Night is told directly from a survivor of the Holocaust. Through reading these books,
I observed and learned different views and facts on World War II and the Holocaust.
As I finished the Book Thief in 3rd Quarter, I learned some things about Germany
during that time. One of the biggest things that I had learned was about the cruelty of

The true story brought a whole new focus and description to the Holocaust. One
thing that surprised me was the fact that there was very little sympathy. The
officers didn t care if the prisoners were hurt or a family member had just died.
They just used that event as way to beat the Jew. Another thing that surprised me
was how little they were fed. When I was younger I didn t understand the whole
idea and I thought that the Germans were being nice and giving the prisoners food.
However the food was weak and they received very little. In the story, Elie talked
of how each day the SS workers would throw a piece of bread into the train cars.
Elie would watch the men fight and hurt each other just to get food. He even
talked about a father who was getting killed by his own son. The final piece of
information that I learned was how long the prisoners stayed at the camps. To me,
it just seemed like a year or so that the Jews were imprisoned. But in reality, Elie
was there for about three years and the veterans were there for much longer. To read
a book that was written by a survivor taught me things that I wouldn t have
understood if I had just read a regular nonfiction book. This journal taught me things
about the Holocaust and really focuses on the mood and what life was like in the

When clients are admitted to the RTC, a legal guardian must accompany them in
order to complete the initial intake documentation. Several intake procedures are
completed within the first twenty four hours of the client s arrival. The intake
process begins with consent forms (see Appendix X) that require a signature from
the legal guardian, which gives the RTC permission to treat the client. The legal

Beginning in 2007, Chevrolet rolled out a new audio system, wheel packages, and a
new steering wheel. Additional trim shuffling took place in 2008. The SS coupe and
SS sedan were renamed the Sport coupe and the Sport sedan, respectively. Previous
optional equipment, including an MP3 player, XM radio, and side impact airbags
were now standard. A new stability control system was introduced.
For 2009, the Sport coupe and Sport sedan models were eliminated, along with the
2.4 liter engine powering them. An upgraded 2.2 liter engine was introduced.
Bluetooth connectivity was added as well. Other changes included making OnStar
telematics standard across the model line, an iPod compatible USB port was added

My National School Curriculum Course
My showcase of best work was during my public school curriculum course while
studying about learning outcomes. During this week of study I was able to deeper
analyze my state standards, examine the balance between holding all student to
educational standards and accommodating the needs of diverse learners, identify
essential questions for students that guide my lessons and determine methods for
identifying the critical knowledge and skills within my particular unit. In the end, I
designed and developed an interdisciplinary unit based on state standards will core

Collaboratively examining students learning and performance allows teachers to
engage with their content standards, design and critique assessments and plan
instruction (Fisher, 2005. p. 11). Simply glancing over state standards is not
providing students with quality instruction; therefore, students are not able to take
their learning to a deeper level of understanding. My goal is for instruction to be
aligned with assessments; thus students are able to apply their knowledge to solve
problems and make reasonable applications through everyday issues. All students
should be challenged in each standard at the highest level they are capable of
mastering. Rigor exists in the standard and must be ingrained in the classroom daily.
Rigor in assessment must align with instruction in the type of thinking (Chappuis,
2014). Rigor does not mean more work or harder assessments. I find it irritating when
all standards are not completely addressed to the students, yet students are expected
to reach mastery on the assessment. In the end teachers and students become
frustrated with the outcome. Assessments along with instruction of the standard
should be aligned. Students learn at different levels and at a different pace; therefore,
differentiation plays a large role in student success. Providing additional support for
diverse learners is crucial so that students are able to stay focused on their learning
outcomes and reaching mastery on standard
Warren Buffett American Growth
The railroad in the United States assisted with its growth and expansion from sea to
shining sea. However, with the advent of the personal vehicle, trucks, and aviation,
the railroad began to decline (Gallamore Meyer, 2014). Therefore, one might
question why Warren Buffett purchased Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railroad for
$26.5 billion dollars. However, years after the $26.5 billion dollars was spent, no
one would question the investment as its revenue has since risen 57% and has
become a main source of income for Warren Buffetts company, Berkshire Hathaway
(Buhayar, 2014). There are a few reasons how Warren Buffett saw this growth coming
and capitalized. Mr. Buffett has throughout his years of life seen a steady growth in

Refined oil is the number one product within the United States (Reed, 2010).
Furthermore, the means to shipping oil around the country is rail (O Malley,
2014). Thus, Warren Buffets purchase of the Burlington Northern Santa Fe
Railroad company makes sense. This can be explained by the fact that according
to Warren Buffett, the shipment of oil via rail is a cheaper, positive alternative to
pipelines (O Malley, 2014). Warren Buffett s purchase of Burlington Northern
Santa Fe Railroad shows that Mr. Buffett believes that as hauling via truck
becomes more costly due to rising oil prices, a cheap rail system will be preferred
(Foroohar, 2012). The reason that rail is a cheap means of shipment is simple, rail
uses less fuel to travel. This is evident in the fact that a rail system can haul one ton
of goods 500 miles on just one gallon of fuel (O Malley, 2014). One would be hard
pressed to find a trucking company that could boast the same. Thus, as fuel prices
rise, rail would become more viable. Warren Buffett has personally been quoted
stating this by mentioning that energy prices will rise within the United States,
allowing his railroad venture to grow more over time (Foroohar, 2012). Furthermore,
as pipelines remain controversial and a slow means of shipping oil, rail can solve the
problem via expediting oil shipments around the country (O Malley,
The Ideas Of Plato And Plato s Republic
Socrates was of the conviction that ideals are the preserve of a world only the
shrewd man can fathom, which makes the philosopher the only kind of person suited
to govern others. He argued that only the philosopher could effectively govern a
state because others would yield to the wishes and desires of the majority
(Weeraratne 228). In Platos Republic, Socrates overtly took a dim view of the
Athenian democracythat governed Athens during his time. In fact, not only did
Socrates have problems with the Athenian democracy, he also found short of perfect
any form of government that was not consistent with his demonstration of an ideal
government led by philosophers, and the government of Athens did not resemble
such a regime in any way. It is worth noting, however, that the Socrates described in
Plato s Republic appears to be characterized by Plato s own opinions, and while
Socrates supported a democratic variant of unified government, Aristotleadvocated for
a form of aristocracy in which the majority middle class ruled. Because of political
upheaval, Athens was in a constant state of unrest and instability during the later
years Socrates life. A junta by the name Thirty Tyrants, which was led by Critias
(Plato s relative and a student of Socrates), eventually put an end to democracy and
ruled for close to a year before the reinstatement of the Athenian democracy (Johnson
11). While it is widely believed that Socrates was opposed to Athenian democracy, a

Decision Making Ethics in the Current Marketplace
In examining the correlation between the manner in which we conduct business and
the principles to which we personally ascribe, it is undeniable that we are
inextricably impacted by our respective familial upbringings, social environments and
academic influences. Because values play such an important role in our lives, being
able to recognize, understand and articulate one s own values set becomes critical in
sound decision making. Additionally, the ability to identify an employer s corporate...

Beliefs are steeped in our past histories, habits and traditions, and are thus
constrained by individual experiences and not as adaptable to new situations.
Alternatively, if you use values to make decisions, those decisions will align with the
future you want to experience. Values transcend both contexts and experiences.
Therefore, they can be used for making tough decisions in complex situations that
have not yet been experienced. As a result, values provide a more flexible mode of
decision making than beliefs.
Gain Team Member Customer Commitment: When an organization and its team
members unite around a shared set of values, they become more flexible, less
hierarchical, less bureaucratic, and they develop an enhanced capacity for collective

performance of a company is enhanced. Shared values build trust. Trust is the

Acute Respiratory Failure Research Paper
Acute Respiratory Failure, Adult
Acute respiratory failure occurs when there is not enough oxygen passing from
your lungs to your body. When this happens, your lungs have trouble removing
carbon dioxide from the blood. This causes your blood oxygen level to drop too low
as carbon dioxide builds up.
Acute respiratory failure is a medical emergency. It can develop quickly, but it is
temporary if treated promptly. Your lung function can improve with time and
treatment.
CAUSES
There are many possible causes of acute respiratory failure, including:
Lung injury.
Chest injury or damage to the ribs or tissues near the lungs.

TREATMENT
Treatment for this condition usually takes places in a hospital intensive care unit
(ICU). Treatment depends on what is causing the condition. It may include one or
more treatments until your symptoms improve. Treatment may include:
Supplemental oxygen. Extra oxygen is given through a tube in the nose, a facemask,
or a hood.
A device such as a continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) or bi level positive
airway pressure (BiPAP or BPAP) machine. This treatment uses mild air pressure to
keep the airways open. A mask or other device will be placed over your nose or
mouth. A tube that is connected to a motor will deliver oxygen through the mask.
Ventilator. This treatment helps move air into and out of the lungs. This may be
done with a bag and mask or a machine. For this treatment, a tube is placed in your
windpipe (trachea) so that air and oxygen can flow to the lungs.
Extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO). This treatment temporarily takes
over the function of the heart and lungs, supplying oxygen and removing carbon
dioxide. ECMO gives the lungs a chance to recover. It may be used if a ventilator is
not effective.

The American Red Cross and its intervention in the hurricanes Isaac and Sandy
Factual summary
The American Red Cross is a major organization in the United States and around
the world. Clara Barton founded the American chapter in 1881. She was a public
servant who decided to get involved during the civil war by attending to wounded
soldiers and feeding them on the battlefield. Her sense of humanitarian work was
only strengthened by her trip to Europe during the Franco Prussian war, where she
discovered the initiative of Henri Dunant (Reitman, 1996). After the battle of
Solfinero, this Swiss banker was shocked by the carnage of war and decided to
gather doctors and volunteers around the village to help tend to the wounded. This
action motivated him to create a nonpartisan organization that can focus on caring for
people wounded in wars and conflicts regardless of their origin. (Reitman, 1996). The
organization was ratified in the 1864 Geneva Convention by twelve countries and
later by many others. The United States Red Cross was founded due to the efforts of
Barton in Washington (Reitman, 1996). The first chapter of the national American
Red Cross was created in upstate New York. Later, the organization received funding
to create its national headquarters in Washington. Since then, the Red Cross has
benefited form a close relationship with Washington as it was created by
congressional charter more than a century ago and plays a
Antitrust Laws In The Airline Industry
The role of antitrust laws, established in 1890, in the private sector for all the
different types of businesses was to end price discrimination for customers and
prevent monopoly expansion, and restrict combined market control. The one area of
the regulation vs deregulation era I would like to discuss briefly about is President
Jimmy Carters AirlineDeregulation Act.
As soon as regulations for airline travel was lifted, new competitors emerged and
existing companies scramble to satisfy their market control. With the explosion of
airlines offering a list of new services as well as employing nonunion pilots and
workers to cut costs and expand profit. Many airlines cater a variety of different
social classes from super expensive flights to the cheap no frills flights. The large
airline companies, which had originally got accustomed to the government set fares
and the guaranteed that all costs would be cover, found themselves in disarray satisfy
the services offered by the new competition. Despite that the deregulation was
excellent for competitive airline businesses to offer many services that strategically
cut costs for profit. It affected the customers with pricing, additional fees, and
complicated service options. As of result, many airlines end up purchasing and
merging other airlines to gain market control. The rest of the many airlines businesses
filed for bankruptcies and liquidations.
Descriptive Essay About A Concert
I enjoy listening to a variety of all kinds of music. However, interestingly, through
whole my life, I have never attended many classical concerts before; especially
classical saxophone ones. Compared to all the other concerts that I have gone to, the
saxophone studio recital was a definite change in atmosphere. The Dana Concert
Series presented the YSU saxophonestudio recital in the Butler Institute of American
Art. The students of Dr. James C. Umble performed at 12:15 in the prepossessing
building. The room filled with many loved ones, students, faculty, and bystanders.
Everyone remained very quiet waiting for the show to begin as the performers
warmed up for a little while off to the side of the stage.
Four performers walked onto the stage getting in their ready positions. A gentleman
sitting on the opposite side of the walkway up in the front seats starting clapping
loudly. One of the performers had looked over, and waved their hand and mouthed
them to stop kindly. It was an awkward, yet funny situation because I believe it was a
family member. The performers were Christie Hrdlicka, soprano saxophone, Anthony
Bonamase, alto saxophone, Matthew Eustace, tenor saxophone, and Jake Jeges,
baritone saxophone. The performers then walked to their ready positions and the
audience began to clap. They had remained standing, which was odd to me because
any instrumental concerts I have attended they always sat down. The music stands
stood as tall as the person in front of them.
The Year Of Wonders By Geraldine Brooks
Oppression is defined as, the exercise of authority or power in a burdensome, cruel,
or unjust manner (dictionary.com), and is found all around the world. There is
essentially two parts to oppression: the oppressor, who is demonstrating his power
by displaying cruelty towards the second part of oppression, the oppressed. The
oppressed take part in offenses made by the oppressor, that usually contain a cruel,
and unfair burden towards them. The world has demonstrated this profound
relationship since human history first began, not only in their way of life, but in
literature. For example, Geraldine Brooks, displays the oppressors, in her novel The

Panem is significantly lacking fellowship and liberation while under the
oppressive rule of the Capitol. People are suffering and working endlessly each
and every day inside the districts, while everybody in the Capitol is living a superb
and wealthy life. In order for this to change, Panem needs to reflect on these views,
and change their way of life. In the novel, Peeta says, Only I keep wishing I could
think of a way to... to show the Capitol they don t own me. That I m more than just
a piece in their games (Collins 142). He has already reflected the lack of liberation
in Panem, and is now trying to envision a way to fix it. This needs to be the
mentality of everybody in Panem. Cutting out oppression, and increasing
fellowship, liberation, and solidarity, will disembody the life they are living now, and
produce an improved way of life for everybody in Panem. In his novel, Pedagogy of
the Oppressed, Paulo Freire also says, It is only when the oppressed find the
oppressor out and become involved in the organized struggle for liberation that they
begin to believe in themselves. This discovery cannot be purely intellectual but must
involve action (Freire). The Secret Life of Bees, by Sue Monk Kidd, is linked to this

How Did Woodrow Wilson Lose Ww1
In 1912, Woodrow Wilson became the next President of the United States. He won
the election by promising the people new freedom which consisted of lesser tariffs,
banking restructuring, antitrust legislation and he planned to modify Theodore
Roosevelt s gunboat diplomacy. Once Mr. Wilson became president, he sent the
military to some Caribbean countries and Mexico, and he claimed he did this
because he only wanted peace and social equality in the world. When World War I
broke out in Europe, President Wilson decided to stay neutral although he had
compassion for Great Britain. Moreover, he mainly won re election in 1916 by
making a promise to the American people to keep them out of the war. However, in
1917 President Wilson requested a declaration of war while meeting with Congress.

The Prohibition Of The Nineteenth Century
During the 1920s, United States had begun a 13 years nationwide prohibition on
alcohol. The reason for such serious legislation was due to gambling, drug addiction
and alcoholism problem during the nineteenth century. However, the power of
eighteenth amendment had exclude medical and religious purposes alcohol.
Therefore, the law created a loophole for home production and medical alcohol.
Despite the fact that manufacture of wine, malt liquor and distillery had significantly
decreased after prohibition started in 1920; there were no significant change in
alcohol sales and profits. In fact, National Policy stated that the federal government
had no authority prosecute small offenders who possessed liquors. (Wheeler, 1927,
p.1) Furthermore, many small individuals had started to bootleg and sell illegal liquor
throughout the country.
In Detroit, Michigan rumrunners or bootleggers had risen during the 1920 due to the
National dry period. During the first year of law enforcement, the number of
drunkenness arrested were doubled. (Hall, 2014, p.85) The crime rate had reflected
the effectiveness of national prohibition instantly and bootlegging had done serious
impact to both economics and society.
After World War I, the United States had entered an age of optimism; Americans
believed everything will be fine. Hence prohibition was believed to be positive and
effective under the influence of media. For instance, Anti Saloon League (ASL) was

The Contingency Theory Of Leadership
Introduction
The term leadership can be significantly defined as expressed as the overall process
through which a respective individual influences and provides the right kind of
support to others for the purpose of accomplishing a common objective, goal or task.
The leadership theories can be said to the significant assumptions that significantly
help in distinguishing the overall characteristics of any respective leader (Timpe,
2007). The leadership theories extensively focus on various specific qualities of a
leader which includes knowledge and levels and skills that separates the respective
leader from his or her followers. There exists various kinds of leadership theories but
amongst them great man theory, trait theory, situational leadership theory,, behavioral
leadership theory, contingency leadership theory, transformational leadership theory
and transactional leadership theory are considered to be the most significant. The

The contingency theory of leadership is seen to significant fail in providing proper
and appropriate explanation regarding the overall reasons for the effectiveness of
leadership in different types of situations or circumstances. From the contingency
leadership theory it is extensively hard to evaluate how a respective individual can
significantly reflect upon his or her own style of leadership. The contingency
leadership theory is not considered to be a process of development of leadership. It
has been observed that the contingency leadership theory fails to blend with a
leader s career growth. If the respective leader fails to change or adapt his respective
style, the respective leader fails to be productive at higher organizational levels

telling the reader that everything should count, every moment of life should
count. The heart is one of the most beautiful things in the world, it is capable of so
much emotion, and it is what keeps creatures living. It does not matter the speed
which life is lived at as long as the moments in life should not be taken for granted,
but are lived to their fullest to be remembered forever. Throughout Joyas Voladoras
the idea that the heart is valuable and beautiful is shown in this short story a
multitude of times through the metaphors. Life is promoted as such a glorious
thing and not everything gets to live for as long as it would like, factors play in
and life ends. Muscles and organs fail, and the body can fix itself, but when the
heart fails or breaks it can no longer be fixed. Doyle shows the reader that the size or

makes it look stranger, is that Infanta is looking to same thing. So when we look
deeper to the drawing we start wondering what is the point of the painting? Is it to
show Infanta and her maids of honor or there is a hidden idea behind it that only the
painter knows about it? We see next that the couple are reflected in the back mirror,
so they are standing in the place where everyone is looking and they are reflected in
the mirror at the same
R22 Feon Research Paper
R22 Freon Phase Out
Most people depend on their air conditioners. It is the only way to stay cool when
you are inside of your home or office and the temperatures are soaring into the 90s
and beyond as it often does in Fort Meyers and other areas of south Florida. The
thing is, most older air conditioning units are not able to keep up with the heat as
well as most people want for them to. Also, many people are now having to deal
with the R22 Freon phase out that is taking place and it is causing a lot of people to
suffer in misery. What is R22?
R 22 is a type of propellant or refrigerant that is a colorless gas. It is a hydro
chlorofluorocarbon that, until recently, was the primary gas used in air
conditioners both inside a vehicle and homes. It is a gas that causes very little
damage to the ozone, and was at one time considered very safe to use. However,
when you consider how many people are now using air conditioners, it is still
causing a problem according to some research. ... Show more content on

Freon is a gas that is added to the compressor of an air conditioning unit. It is then
added to a closed loop system that ensures there is a constant recycling process that it
goes through. The way it works from there is when you turn on your air conditioner
the compressor compresses the Freon. This makes it become hot and then it travels
through coils that are inside of your unit. As the Freon liquid flows through, it
evaporates and becomes cold. The now cold gas will continue through the air
conditioners coils to absorb heat and then push cooler air into the building or
Comparing Bonnie And Clyde
1. How does the scene s editing guide us from one image to the next? Refer to
specific tools and/or techniques mentioned in the book in your description. Give
at least two examples (4 pts.) The editing uses several methods to jump between
the different images. I noticed three particular methods. A Flip frame, flash cuts,
and a form cut. They used flip frames several times in the beginning of the scene
when the man operating on the truck would look down a road and the view would
flip to what he sees. They also did this when Clyde was driving. It would show him
looking forward then it would show his view. They use a form cut towards the end
of the scene right before they were both killed. It showed Clyde looking at Bonnie
with a surprised look before it showed the same image except with Bonnie looking at
Clyde. Last but not least the used flash cuts when the officers shot Bonnie and Clyde.
They would flash back and forth between the two images.
2. Who were Bonnie (Parker) and Clyde (Barrow) (Google them)? In which decade
was this film set? What did the mis en scene have to have to make this seem real?
(Like specific kinds of props, costuming, certain types of characters, etc.) (6 pts.)
Bonnie and Clyde were a pair of lovers that stole and killed in the 1930 s. They were

A few that come to mind is later in the film when the characters are fighting an
army of mind soldiers on the third level of the dream. When the wounded character
is defending the air duct that leads into the safe room there are the sounds of echoic
running which fits people running in a hallway. Also in the same scene when on his
last breath he drops a grenade down the air duct it shows a blast of fire blow out the
bottom entrance. Accompanying this visual is the whoosh that you can imagine fire
would make as well as the sound of debris hitting snow. The sound effects greatly add
to the credibility of the
Financial Advisor Research Papers
Financial advising is one of the many occupations one can purse with a business
finance degree. Even though financial advisors are not well known, they do
multiple things to help the global economy. A financial advisors job tends to focus
on helping individuals with 401k s, retirement plans, and other saving plans that
require budgeting. Even though this job is limited to helping with these few
plans, this job is very difficult and requires tedious amounts of work. The level of
difficulty is the reasoning behind many not consider a job in this field. In the
article, Financial Advisors, Financial Ecologies and The Variegated
Financialization of Everyday Investors, it talks about how financial advisors are
people oriented. This is a positive thing, because it shows the individuals who are
being advised are cared for. The employment rate for this job was at a standstill for a
short amount of time due to the type of work financial advisors are required to do.
However, in recent years, more and more individuals are... Show more content on

In the article, Advisors Involved in Financial Planning, authors Mendlowitz and
Kess talks about how financial advisors are people oriented and want what is best
for their clients. The authors prove that the difficulty of the financial advising
processes is typically overlooked by others by stating, The different kinds of
financial advisors and their role in the overall financial planning process is difficult
(Pg.66). Many might think that financial advisors have an easy job, but there is more
to it than telling people to save small amounts of money here and there. Advisors
must go through several specific steps to figure out the exact amounts their clients
must save. The author of this article talks about situations that a financial advisor
might go through as well as how the advisor should
Essay about The Shallows
Professor Provost
RPW 210
27 October 2011
The Shallows; Real or Make Believe The Internet is something that some consider
their lifesavers, while others believe that it takes their life away. The Shallows: What
The Internet Is Doing to Our Brains, by Nicholas Carr is a novel that explores the
different areas of how new technologies affect humans in different ways, regarding
multi tasking and distractions, to how new technologies make us lose a little part of
ourselves. Throughout the book Carr puts forward very strong arguments, but then
loses creditability with his use of fallacies in argument.
Within the very first chapter Hal and Me , is where the first fallacy arises. Hal and
Me , gives the reader some insight of what they ... Show more content on

Many generalizations are present throughout this chapter that weaken Carr s
argument. This quote is just one of the few generalizations, The intellectual ethic
of a technology is rarely recognized by its inventors. They are usually so intent on
solving a particular problem or untangling some thorny scientific or engineering
dilemma that they don t see the implications of their work. The users of the
technology are also usually oblivious to its ethic. They, too, are concerned with the
practical benefits they gain from employing the tool (Carr 45). As stated before
this quote is a generalization. Carr is generalizing with the assumption that
inventors are usually so intent on solving a problem that they aren t focuses on the
benefits or consumers, which isn t very true anymore. Many inventors who create
products are now looing for the benefits that its user or consumer will get.
Therefore this quote can confuse the reader. Another contradiction appears in
chapter 3 Tools of the Mind , Carr states Language itself is not a technology (51).
This is a contradiction to chapter 5 A Medium Of The Most General Nature , where
the whole concept of the chapter is writing and reading, which is considered
language to most. When reading chapter 5 and remembering this quote, it makes the
reader question Carr s credibility of chapter 3 of how language evolves from humans,
and that reading and writing is part of our culture and is not a technology.
The Evolutionary Resistance Of Malaria
Hussam Mahmood
Evolution Term Paper Draft
Evolutionary Resistance in Malaria As you calmly inch forward with a finger on the
spray head, approaching steadily yet cautiously to avoid startling the organism who
is miniscule compared to ourselves, one fails to take into account the broad
consequences that their actions may have. This was a similar idea in the 1950s when
cases of malaria arose and the most economical and effective means of control was
essentially spraying at the touch of a button. Insecticides are a rapid way of killing
mosquitoes that carried diseases. It was the clear solution to the problem; however
mosquitoes evolved resistance to the insecticides. Since then, researchers and
organizations have developed strategies to tackle the issue of insecticide resistance
especially in the case of malaria. There have been tactics that have developed to
hinder or prevent evolutionary resistance with the help of underlying evolutionary
principles.
Evolutionary resistance was first seen after the initial malarial outbreak in the 20th
century. At the time, eradication was the goal and so the World Health Organization
launched a global program that treated patients with chloroquine and controlled
mosquitoes with the insecticide DDT(Greenwood et al. 2008). This prolonged use of
each treatment led to evolutionary resistance in both the disease and the vector to
their respective antagonizing agents. More recently, a class of pyrethroid insecticides,
consisting of four
Of Mark Twain s A Toast To The Oldest Inhabitant

attitude towards his essay is how the weather can be hard to deal with at times but
sometimes it can be a joy to watch.James Thurbers attitude towards The Dog That Bit
People is that everyone knows the dog is bad but still continue to still deal with him.
A toast to the oldest Inhabitant:The Weather of New England is similar to A toast to

things they don t like about something but still dealing with it anyway.
2. The Dog That Bit People is the most effective use of satire.I say this because in

In just my short seven months of working at the crisis center, I have met more women like Kim that was mentioned earlier than I can even begin to count. Growing up in such a rural part of Georgia, one believes that such violence does not occur in their little hometown but that is far from the truth. I have come across many women that do not have the support of their families. I have heard reasons that range from the kids need their dad to where are you going to go if you leave because you are not able to come here to divorce is not an option. Many women that I have encountered have told of bad experiences that they have had with local law enforcement so they are afraid to even report any abuse. Being in such a small area, many of the perpetrators know the law enforcement officials and judges personally and this creates a conflict of interest. Other women have fought back while being beat and have been arrested, too so they fear of going to jail again if they try to defend themselves. Most of the women that I have spoken with during intake sit and cry uncontrollably while casting blame on themselves. My time volunteering turned into my time wanting to make a difference in the community in which I live in. I can no longer stay quiet on this issue. I have friends, family, and community members that have been victims to such violence and if they are scared to have a voice, then I have to have one for

Some soldiers had to carry this emotion for the rest of their lives. This can be seen in The Things They Carried when Tim talks about Kiowa and Curt Lemon: I m forty three years old, and a writer now, and the war has been over for a long while. Much of it is hard to remember. I sit at this typewriter and stare through my words and watch Kiowa sinking into the deep muck of a shit field, or Curt Lemon hanging in pieces from a tree, and as I write about these things, the remembering is turned into a kind of rehappening. Kiowa yells at me. Curt Lemon steps from the shade into bright sunlight, his face brown and shining, and then he soars into a tree. The bad stuff never stops happening: it lives in its own dimension, replaying itself over and over. (O Brien 31) There is no better way to explain this. Poetic Devices In Kubla Khan Introduction: S.T Coleridge s Kubla Khan is a visionary poem of 54 lines, about the magical, mystical place, Xanadu where the heavenly paradise is overshadowed by a hint of evil. The poem has three types of poetic elements which will be discussed along with relevant examples. First, the poem is replete with powerful visual imagery which explains the theme and brings to life the vivid imagination of the poet. Second, sound has been used to convey not just motion and energy but also a musical effect due to the use of alliteration, assonance and anaphora. Third, the rhythm or the unusual rhymescheme increases the creative impact of the poem. Kubla Khan is an example of an imaginative, descriptive poem written in a drug induced state of mind, ... There are four ways in which rhythm has been effectively utilized though the poem does not follow a traditional pattern. First, the meter or pattern of stressed, i.e. long and unstressed, i.e. short syllable changes throughout the poem. Iambic tetrameter has been used in the first stanza, in lines 1 to 4, for e.g.

  • 8. Chromatography Lab Introduction: Chromatography is a technique used by scientists to separate a mixture, known or unknown, into each component present in the mixture. For chromatography to be completed there has to be a mobile and stationary phase present. The mobile phase in chromatography is any liquid or gas containing the substance to be separated. The stationary phase acts as a magnet in which certain substances will be more attracted to than others and each different component will travel up in a unique pattern and height. There are two different types of chromatography gas chromatography (GC) and liquid chromatography (LC or HPLC). In GC the mobile phase is a gas and the stationary phase is a solid in column form (generally metallic or glass tube), in this type of chromatography the analyte must pass through the high pressure gas cylinder (mobile phase) this analyte will then being to react with the walls of the column containing the stationary phase and depending on the attraction each compound has with this stationary phase it will elute at different times, i.e. The retention time. ... Seismic Profile Essay Use of Seismics for Lithology Characterization Aditya Chakravarty Abstract This paper studies the application of Rock Physics Models by using Seismic and Well log data to characterize the reservoir sedimentological parameters (viz. Porosity, sorting, cement content and fluid saturation). When properly constrained by local subsurface environment, rock physics models can be used to predict the reservoir quality away from wells. Various researchers have applied a combination of theoretical and heuristic models to generate diagnostic Rock Physics templates (RPT s). These RPT s show the trend of Seismic attributes (Acoustic impedance, VP/VS ratio, Elastic Moduli and) of rocks with changing geological parameters like cementing, sorting,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... These models premise that the inclusions are ellipsoidal or penny shaped. Although the Inclusion Models have significantly furthered our understanding of the effects of compliant inclusions in rocks, the simplistic assumption of the pore shapes makes it difficult to compare them to actual pore geometries. Displacement Discontinuity models represent the elastic response of rocks with oriented fractures under low frequency (e.g. Schoenberg and Douma, 1988; Sayers and Kachanov, 1995; Schoenberg and Sayers 1995). These models assume fractures to be infinitesimally thin displacement breaks which are defined by their normal and shear compliances. This represents the additional compliance of the rock in comparison to the matrix, due to the presence of fractures. Their usage necessitates the knowledge of fracture compliances and over simplifies the complex nature of fractures as mere planes of discontinuity. Computational Models (e.g. Knackstedt et al., 2009) represent the actual geometry of the porous dry frame through rigorous imaging using Computed Tomography (CT) scanning. The mechanical response of the rock is also computed, using Finite Element Modelling (FEM) and Discrete Element Modelling (DEM) schemes. The obvious merit of such models is the realistic representation of the geometry and elastic moduli. A high computational capability requirement and expensive equipment for pore scale imaging are the factors that limit their usage. Contact Models represent

There is a small mark ...in the center of Georgiana s left cheek there was a singular mark, deeply interwoven, as it were, with the texture and substance of her face. (Hawthorne 341). We wanted them to be the biggest things on campus, and they were. Chesky and Gebbia had total control over the clubs and built them into significant organizations, raising money through a variety of events and expanding the clubs profile beyond their respective sporting arenas. Both took a lot from the experience, recalled Chesky: Running the Nads was some of the most important business education I ve ever gotten. Death (Markus Zusak, pg. 549) The Holocaust has been remembered for one of the worst genocidal acts to ever occur in human history. Over 11 million people were brutally murdered and killed, 6 million of them were Jewish. Stories such as The Book Thief and Night reflect on that time in history. Night is told directly from a survivor of the Holocaust. Through reading these books, I observed and learned different views and facts on World War II and the Holocaust. As I finished the Book Thief in 3rd Quarter, I learned some things about Germany during that time. One of the biggest things that I had learned was about the cruelty of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The true story brought a whole new focus and description to the Holocaust. One thing that surprised me was the fact that there was very little sympathy. The officers didn t care if the prisoners were hurt or a family member had just died. They just used that event as way to beat the Jew. Another thing that surprised me was how little they were fed. When I was younger I didn t understand the whole idea and I thought that the Germans were being nice and giving the prisoners food. However the food was weak and they received very little. In the story, Elie talked of how each day the SS workers would throw a piece of bread into the train cars. Elie would watch the men fight and hurt each other just to get food. He even talked about a father who was getting killed by his own son. The final piece of information that I learned was how long the prisoners stayed at the camps. To me, it just seemed like a year or so that the Jews were imprisoned. But in reality, Elie was there for about three years and the veterans were there for much longer. To read a book that was written by a survivor taught me things that I wouldn t have understood if I had just read a regular nonfiction book. This journal taught me things about the Holocaust and really focuses on the mood and what life was like in the concentration

My goal is for instruction to be aligned with assessments; thus students are able to apply their knowledge to solve problems and make reasonable applications through everyday issues. All students should be challenged in each standard at the highest level they are capable of mastering. Rigor exists in the standard and must be ingrained in the classroom daily. Rigor in assessment must align with instruction in the type of thinking (Chappuis, 2014). Rigor does not mean more work or harder assessments. I find it irritating when all standards are not completely addressed to the students, yet students are expected to reach mastery on the assessment. However, with the advent of the personal vehicle, trucks, and aviation, the railroad began to decline (Gallamore Meyer, 2014). Therefore, one might question why Warren Buffett purchased Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railroad for $26.5 billion dollars. However, years after the $26.5 billion dollars was spent, no one would question the investment as its revenue has since risen 57% and has become a main source of income for Warren Buffetts company, Berkshire Hathaway (Buhayar, 2014). Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Refined oil is the number one product within the United States (Reed, 2010). Furthermore, the means to shipping oil around the country is rail (O Malley, 2014). Thus, Warren Buffets purchase of the Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railroad company makes sense. This can be explained by the fact that according to Warren Buffett, the shipment of oil via rail is a cheaper, positive alternative to pipelines (O Malley, 2014). Warren Buffett s purchase of Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railroad shows that Mr. Buffett believes that as hauling via truck becomes more costly due to rising oil prices, a cheap rail system will be preferred (Foroohar, 2012). The reason that rail is a cheap means of shipment is simple, rail uses less fuel to travel. This is evident in the fact that a rail system can haul one ton of goods 500 miles on just one gallon of fuel (O Malley, 2014). One would be hard pressed to find a trucking company that could boast the same. Thus, as fuel prices rise, rail would become more viable. Warren Buffett has personally been quoted stating this by mentioning that energy prices will rise within the United States, allowing his railroad venture to grow more over time (Foroohar, 2012). Furthermore, as pipelines remain controversial and a slow means of shipping oil, rail can solve the problem via expediting oil shipments around the country (O Malley,

The Ideas Of Plato And Plato s Republic Socrates was of the conviction that ideals are the preserve of a world only the shrewd man can fathom, which makes the philosopher the only kind of person suited to govern others. He argued that only the philosopher could effectively govern a state because others would yield to the wishes and desires of the majority (Weeraratne 228). In Platos Republic, Socrates overtly took a dim view of the Athenian democracythat governed Athens during his time. In fact, not only did Socrates have problems with the Athenian democracy, he also found short of perfect any form of government that was not consistent with his demonstration of an ideal government led by philosophers, and the government of Athens did not resemble such a regime in any way. It is worth noting, however, that the Socrates described in Plato s Republic appears to be characterized by Plato s own opinions, and while Socrates supported a democratic variant of unified government, Aristotleadvocated for a form of aristocracy in which the majority middle class ruled. Because of political upheaval, Athens was in a constant state of unrest and instability during the later years Socrates life. A junta by the name Thirty Tyrants, which was led by Critias (Plato s relative and a student of Socrates), eventually put an end to democracy and ruled for close to a year before the reinstatement of the Athenian democracy (Johnson 11). The American Red Cross And Its Intervention Emmanuel Babadjide PAD 758 Professor Kempf The American Red Cross and its intervention in the hurricanes Isaac and Sandy Factual summary The American Red Cross is a major organization in the United States and around the world. Clara Barton founded the American chapter in 1881. She was a public servant who decided to get involved during the civil war by attending to wounded soldiers and feeding them on the battlefield. Her sense of humanitarian work was only strengthened by her trip to Europe during the Franco Prussian war, where she discovered the initiative of Henri Dunant (Reitman, 1996). After the battle of Solfinero, this Swiss banker was shocked by the carnage of war and decided to gather doctors and volunteers around the village to help tend to the wounded. This action motivated him to create a nonpartisan organization that can focus on caring for people wounded in wars and conflicts regardless of their origin. (Reitman, 1996). The organization was ratified in the 1864 Geneva Convention by twelve countries and later by many others. The United States Red Cross was founded due to the efforts of Barton in Washington (Reitman, 1996). The first chapter of the national American Red Cross was created in upstate New York. Later, the organization received funding to create its national headquarters in Washington. Since then, the Red Cross has benefited form a close relationship with Washington as it was created by congressional charter more than a century ago and plays a

As soon as regulations for airline travel was lifted, new competitors emerged and existing companies scramble to satisfy their market control. It affected the customers with pricing, additional fees, and complicated service options. As of result, many airlines end up purchasing and merging other airlines to gain market control. The rest of the many airlines businesses filed for bankruptcies and liquidations.

The Dana Concert Series presented the YSU saxophonestudio recital in the Butler Institute of American Art. The students of Dr. James C. Umble performed at 12:15 in the prepossessing building. The room filled with many loved ones, students, faculty, and bystanders. Everyone remained very quiet waiting for the show to begin as the performers warmed up for a little while off to the side of the stage. Four performers walked onto the stage getting in their ready positions. A gentleman sitting on the opposite side of the walkway up in the front seats starting clapping loudly. One of the performers had looked over, and waved their hand and mouthed them to stop kindly. It was an awkward, yet funny situation because I believe it was a family member. The performers were Christie Hrdlicka, soprano saxophone, Anthony Bonamase, alto saxophone, Matthew Eustace, tenor saxophone, and Jake Jeges, baritone saxophone. The performers then walked to their ready positions and the audience began to clap. They had remained standing, which was odd to me because any instrumental concerts I have attended they always sat down. The music stands stood as tall as the person in front of them.

It is the only way to stay cool when you are inside of your home or office and the temperatures are soaring into the 90s and beyond as it often does in Fort Meyers and other areas of south Florida. The thing is, most older air conditioning units are not able to keep up with the heat as well as most people want for them to. Also, many people are now having to deal with the R22 Freon phase out that is taking place and it is causing a lot of people to suffer in misery. What is R22? R 22 is a type of propellant or refrigerant that is a colorless gas. It is a hydro chlorofluorocarbon that, until recently, was the primary gas used in air conditioners both inside a vehicle and homes. It is a gas that causes very little damage to the ozone, and was at one time considered very safe to use. However, when you consider how many people are now using air conditioners, it is still causing a problem according to some research. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Freon is a gas that is added to the compressor of an air conditioning unit. It is then added to a closed loop system that ensures there is a constant recycling process that it goes through. The way it works from there is when you turn on your air conditioner the compressor compresses the Freon. This makes it become hot and then it travels through coils that are inside of your unit. As the Freon liquid flows through, it evaporates and becomes cold. The now cold gas will continue through the air conditioners coils to absorb heat and then push cooler air into the building or
  • 40. Comparing Bonnie And Clyde 1. How does the scene s editing guide us from one image to the next? Refer to specific tools and/or techniques mentioned in the book in your description. Give at least two examples (4 pts.) The editing uses several methods to jump between the different images. I noticed three particular methods. A Flip frame, flash cuts, and a form cut. They used flip frames several times in the beginning of the scene when the man operating on the truck would look down a road and the view would flip to what he sees. They also did this when Clyde was driving. It would show him looking forward then it would show his view. They use a form cut towards the end of the scene right before they were both killed. It showed Clyde looking at Bonnie with a surprised look before it showed the same image except with Bonnie looking at Clyde. Last but not least the used flash cuts when the officers shot Bonnie and Clyde. They would flash back and forth between the two images. 2. Who were Bonnie (Parker) and Clyde (Barrow) (Google them)? In which decade was this film set? What did the mis en scene have to have to make this seem real? (Like specific kinds of props, costuming, certain types of characters, etc.) (6 pts.) Bonnie and Clyde were a pair of lovers that stole and killed in the 1930 s. They were ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Also in the same scene when on his last breath he drops a grenade down the air duct it shows a blast of fire blow out the bottom entrance. • 41. Financial Advisor Research Papers Financial advising is one of the many occupations one can purse with a business finance degree. Even though financial advisors are not well known, they do multiple things to help the global economy. A financial advisors job tends to focus on helping individuals with 401k s, retirement plans, and other saving plans that require budgeting. Even though this job is limited to helping with these few plans, this job is very difficult and requires tedious amounts of work. The level of difficulty is the reasoning behind many not consider a job in this field. In the article, Financial Advisors, Financial Ecologies and The Variegated Financialization of Everyday Investors, it talks about how financial advisors are people oriented. This is a positive thing, because it shows the individuals who are being advised are cared for. The employment rate for this job was at a standstill for a short amount of time due to the type of work financial advisors are required to do. However, in recent years, more and more individuals are... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 42. Essay about The Shallows Professor Provost RPW 210 27 October 2011 The Shallows; Real or Make Believe The Internet is something that some consider their lifesavers, while others believe that it takes their life away. The Shallows: What The Internet Is Doing to Our Brains, by Nicholas Carr is a novel that explores the different areas of how new technologies affect humans in different ways, regarding multi tasking and distractions, to how new technologies make us lose a little part of ourselves. Throughout the book Carr puts forward very strong arguments, but then loses creditability with his use of fallacies in argument. Within the very first chapter Hal and Me , is where the first fallacy arises. Hal and Me , gives the reader some insight of what they ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Many generalizations are present throughout this chapter that weaken Carr s argument. This quote is just one of the few generalizations, The intellectual ethic of a technology is rarely recognized by its inventors. They are usually so intent on solving a particular problem or untangling some thorny scientific or engineering dilemma that they don t see the implications of their work. The users of the technology are also usually oblivious to its ethic. They, too, are concerned with the practical benefits they gain from employing the tool (Carr 45). As stated before this quote is a generalization. Carr is generalizing with the assumption that inventors are usually so intent on solving a problem that they aren t focuses on the benefits or consumers, which isn t very true anymore. Many inventors who create products are now looing for the benefits that its user or consumer will get. Therefore this quote can confuse the reader. Another contradiction appears in chapter 3 Tools of the Mind , Carr states Language itself is not a technology (51). This is a contradiction to chapter 5 A Medium Of The Most General Nature , where the whole concept of the chapter is writing and reading, which is considered language to most. When reading chapter 5 and remembering this quote, it makes the reader question Carr s credibility of chapter 3 of how language evolves from humans, and that reading and writing is part of our culture and is not a technology.
  • 43. The Evolutionary Resistance Of Malaria Hussam Mahmood Evolution Term Paper Draft Evolutionary Resistance in Malaria As you calmly inch forward with a finger on the spray head, approaching steadily yet cautiously to avoid startling the organism who is miniscule compared to ourselves, one fails to take into account the broad consequences that their actions may have. This was a similar idea in the 1950s when cases of malaria arose and the most economical and effective means of control was essentially spraying at the touch of a button. Insecticides are a rapid way of killing mosquitoes that carried diseases. It was the clear solution to the problem; however mosquitoes evolved resistance to the insecticides. Since then, researchers and organizations have developed strategies to tackle the issue of insecticide resistance especially in the case of malaria. There have been tactics that have developed to hinder or prevent evolutionary resistance with the help of underlying evolutionary principles. Evolutionary resistance was first seen after the initial malarial outbreak in the 20th century. At the time, eradication was the goal and so the World Health Organization launched a global program that treated patients with chloroquine and controlled mosquitoes with the insecticide DDT(Greenwood et al. 2008). This prolonged use of each treatment led to evolutionary resistance in both the disease and the vector to their respective antagonizing agents. More recently, a class of pyrethroid insecticides, consisting of four
